Effect of acupoint application on T lymphocyte subsets in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A meta-analysis.

The development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is related to the T lymphocyte mediated inflammatory immune response and immune imbalance. The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of acupoint application on T lymphocyte subsets in patients with COPD. We searched CNKI, Wan fang, Chongqing VIP, China Biology Medicine disc, PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and EMBASE for studies published as of Oct. 31, 2019. All randomized controlled trials of acupoint application on COPD patients that met the inclusion criteria were included. The Cochrane bias risk assessment tool was used for literature evaluation. RevMan5.3 software was used for meta-analysis. Eight studies (combined n = 524) qualified based on the inclusion criteria. Compared with routine treatment alone, acupoint application combined with routine treatment can significantly increase the T lymphocyte CD4/CD8 ratio (MD 0.12, 95% CI 0.03-0.21, P < .01, I = 49%), reduce CD8 T-cells (MD-0.99, 95% CI-1.70-0.28, P < .001, I = 37%), reduce the times of acute exacerbations (MD-0.28, 95% CI-0.35-0.21, P < .001, I = 0), and improve the clinical efficacy (MD 1.30, 95% CI 1.14-1.48, P < .001, I = 39%). Acupoint application can improve the CD4/CD8 ratio and CD8 T-cells in patients with COPD and has an auxiliary effect in reducing the times of acute exacerbations and improving clinical efficacy.

Efficacy of acupuncture at three nasal acupoints plus acupoint application for perennial allergic rhinitis: A multicenter, randomized controlled trial protocol

BackgroundMany studies have shown the potential therapeutic effect of acupuncture on allergic rhinitis. Most of these studies were limited by low-quality evidence. Preliminary experiments showed that the use of acupuncture at three nasal acupoints plus acupoint application (AAP) achieves a more persistent effect in the treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis than acupuncture alone. In this study, a multicenter, single-blind, randomized controlled trial will be performed, in which acupuncture at nonmeridian acupoints and sham AAP will be used as the control group to evaluate the effect of AAP through long-term observation.MethodsThe trial is designed on the basis of the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials 2010 guidelines and Standards for Reporting Interventions in Controlled Trials of Acupuncture. A total of 120 participants with perennial allergic rhinitis will be randomly assigned to a treatment or control group. A specially appointed investigator will be in charge of randomization. The participants in the treatment group will be treated with acupuncture at EX-HN3, LI20, and EX-HN8 thrice per week for a total of 12 sessions. In addition, they will undergo AAP at DU14, BL13, EX-BI, and RN22. The participants in the control group will be treated with sham AAP. The primary outcome will be the change in the Total Nasal Symptom Score from baseline to the completion of 4-week treatment. Secondary outcomes include changes in visual analog scale and total non-nasal symptom scores from baseline to the second and fourth weeks of treatment, as well as 1, 3, and 6 months after the completion of treatment. Peripheral blood IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10 levels will be measured, and any side effects related to treatment will be observed and recorded.DiscussionIt is expected that this randomized clinical trial will provide evidence to determine the effects of AAP compared with acupuncture at nonmeridian acupoints and sham AAP, particularly the long-term effect. These findings will help improve the clinical application of this technique.Trial registrationAcupuncture-Moxibustion Clinical Trial Registry AMCTR-ICR-18000179. Registered on 12 April 2018.

Clinical effect of acupoint application combined with conventional anti-tuberculosis treatment on pulmonary tuberculosis and its influence on the immune function

Objective To explore the effect of acupoint application combined with conventional anti-tuberculosis treatment on pulmonary tuberculosis and its effect on the immune function of patients. Methods A total of 64 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who visited Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital from March 2016 to September 2017 were selected in the study.The patients were randomly divided into control group (n=30) and observation group (n=34) according to the digital table.The clinical curative effect (obvious absorption, absorption, no change and deterioration), lung function (FVC, FEV1 and FVC/FEV1), immune function(CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+, IgC, IgA, IgM) were compared between the two groups. Results The absorptive rate of the control group was 46.67%, which was significantly lower than that of the observation group(76.47%, χ2=6.04, P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of FVC, FEV1 and FVC/FEV1 of the two groups were significantly increased compared with before treatment..After treatment, the levels of FVC, FEV1 and FVC/FEV1 in the observation group were (2.20±0.48)L, (2.50±0.34)L, (87.44±13.60)%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the control group [(1.63±0.32)L, (2.02±0.44)L, (80.28±12.66)%] (t=6.607, 5.687, 2.558, all P<0.05). After treatment, the CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+, IgC, IgA, IgM levles in the observation group were significantly increased compared with before treatment (all P<0.05). After treatment, the CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+, IgC, IgA, IgM levles in the observation group were (73.25±6.17)%, (38.65±5.75)%, (36.58±3.17)%, (1.52±0.65), (15.49±1.49)g/L, (3.07±1.30)g/L, (1.94±0.50)g/L, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the control group[(68.43±6.4)%, (34.72±5.68)%, (35.02±3.08)%, (1.16±0.78), (12.61±1.64)g/L, (2.23±0.90)g/L, (1.68±0.35)g/L] (t=3.590, 3.223, 2.340, 2.340, 8.594, 3.550, 2.846, all P<0.05). Conclusion Conventional anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy drugs combined with acupuncture has better effect than conventional anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy drugs.It can significantly improve the immune function of patients, improve the success rate of treatment, and speed up the improvement of the patients' condition. Effects of acupoint application in patients with chest stuffiness and pain

Objective To explore the effects of acupoint application on improving symptoms in patients with chest stuffiness and pain. Methods From June 2016 to June 2017, we selected 100 inpatients with chest stuffiness and pain in Department of Cardiology at Dongfang Hospital. Patients were divided into treatment group (n=52) and control group (n=48) . Patients of control group received conventional treatment and nursing care. On this basis of treatment and nursing care in control group, patients of treatment group were treated with acupoint application. And then, we compared the improvement of symptoms and patient satisfaction. Results The total effective rate of treatment group and control group was 98.1% and 83.4% respectively with a significant difference (Z=-2.393, P 0.05) . Conclusions Acupoint application has good clinical effects on improving symptoms in patients with chest stuffiness and pain along with patient satisfaction being improved. Effects of acupoint application combined with modified Xiaoqinglong decoction on airway remodeling and inflammatory factors levels in patients with bronchial asthma

Objective To explore the effects of acupoint application combined with modified Xiaoqinglong decoction on airway remodeling and serum C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-8 (IL-8) and eosinophil chemotactic factor (eotaxin) levels in patients with bronchial asthma. Methods A total of 78 patients with bronchial asthma were randomly divided into two groups, 39 cases each group. The control group was treated with conventional western medicine therapy, and the study group was treated with acupoints plus Xiaoqinglong decoction on the basis of the control group. The treatment effect, adverse reaction were observed, and airway remodeling associated indicators like Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and serum CRP, IL-8, Eotaxin levels were detected as well. Results After treatment, the clinical asthma control rate was 87.18% (34/39) in the study group and 58.97% (23/39) in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=7.885, P 0.05). Conclusions The acupoint application combined with modified Xiaoqinglong decoction can significantly improve the clinical effect, inhibit airway remodeling, decrease the level of serum CRP, IL-8 and Eotaxin in patients with bronchial asthma, and its safety is high. Influence of acupoint application on lipid metabolism in elderly diabetics with hyperlipidemia

Objective To observe the clinical effect of acupoint application on lipid metabolism in elderly diabetics with hyperlipidemia.Methods 60 elder diabetics were divided into two groups.In the drugs group,patients were purely treated with simvastatin or lipanthyl.In the acupoint group, patients received acupoint application.The serum total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), high-density lipeprotein (HDL-C), aPoprotein A(ApoA) and apoprotein B(ApoB) ere measured respectively.Adverse events were observed.Results The levels of TC、TG、LDL-C、ApoB were significantly dechned(all P ＜0.01 ～0.05).However,the rates of reduce lipid had no significant difference in two groups(P ＞0.05).The levels of HDL-C and ApoA were increased in the drugs group,but the homologous levels in the acupoint group showed no significantly change(all p ＞ 0.05).The adverse reaction in the acupoint group was significantly lower than that in the drugs group(P ＜0.05).Conclusion Acupoint application could decrease the blood lipid spectrum in the senile diabetics with hyperlipidemia.This therapeutics could reduce adverse drug reactions. Clinical observation on treatment of allergic asthma by external application of herbal drug on acupoints

Purpose: To investigate a clinical treatment for allgergic asthma. Method: Acupoint application was used, and its effect was compared with that of Western medicine to evaluate the results. Results and Conclusion: It was found that the long-tern effect of acupoint application was significantly better than that of aminophylline; acupoint application had abviously different effects on different types of asthma based on TCM differentiation of syndromes; its short-term effect was not significantly related to the course and condition of the disease. It is indicated that acupoint application is an effective, convenient and safe treatment with little side effect for asthma.

Acupoint application on blood lipid in patients with type II diabetes

Purpose: To observe the regulative effect of acupoint application of abnormal, lipid metabolism in type II diabetes. Methods: Thirty patients with type II diabetes were treated by acupoint application and routine hypoglycemic agents. Meanwhile, another 30 patients with type II diabetes were treated by routine hypoglycemic agents only. A differnece in the blood-lipid level between pretreatment and post-treatment was observed in the two groups. Results: Differences in cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein between pre-treatment and post-treatment in treatment group were significantly different from those in control group (P<0.01). Conclusion: Acupoint application has a good lowering effect on high blood lipid and can effectively alleviate the disorder of lipid metabolism in diabetics.
