Service-Learning Life Education: Connotations and Models

Traditional life education focuses on the transmission of knowledge, ignores individual life requirements, and fails to arouse the life consciousness and action of the educated. We are trying to introduce the concept of Service-Learning into life education by recruiting college students as seed teachers and contacting a cooperative elementary school to conduct life education classroom service. Through knowledge learning, pedagogical practice and supervisory reflection, college students are encouraged to internalize the knowledge of life education and at the same time become practitioners, disseminators and producers of new knowledge of life education; To build schools with special characteristics of life education in elementary schools, so that educated elementary schools can give birth to exuberant vitality and realize multi-party participation and synergistic growth of life education.

Fostering AI literacy: overcoming concerns and nurturing confidence among preservice teachers

Purpose This study aims to investigate how preservice teachers’ stages of concern, beliefs, confidence and interest in AI literacy education evolve as they deepen their understanding of AI concepts and AI literacy education. Design/methodology/approach AI literacy lessons were integrated into a technology integration course for preservice teachers, and the impacts of the lessons were evaluated through a mixed-methods study. The Concerns-Based Adoption Model was employed as the analytical framework to explore participants’ specific concerns related to AI. Findings Findings revealed that participants initially lacked AI knowledge and awareness. However, targeted AI literacy education enhanced preservice teachers’ awareness and confidence in teaching AI. While acknowledging AI’s educational benefits, participants expressed ongoing concerns after AI literacy lessons, such as fears of teacher displacement and the potential adverse effects of incorporating generative AI on students’ critical learning skills development. Originality/value Despite the importance of providing preservice teachers with AI literacy skills and knowledge, research in this domain remains scarce. This study fills this gap by enhancing the AI-related knowledge and skills of future educators, while also identifying their specific concerns regarding the integration of AI into their future classrooms. The findings of this study offer valuable insights and guidelines for teacher educators to incorporate AI literacy education into teacher training programs.

Peran Mediasi Tax Knowledge dalam Hubungan Tax Education dan Tax Compliance

This research examines tax education which influences tax knowledge with the mediation of tax knowledge. Data from a survey of 130 individual taxpayers in Samarinda who had taken taxation courses through formal tertiary level education were analyzed using smartPLS, which produces findings that tax education and tax knowledge have a significant and positive effect on tax compliance, tax education has a significant and positive effect on tax knowledge, and tax education has a significant and positive effect on tax compliance through tax knowledge which is partial mediation. This research results in empirical evidence regarding the importance of tax education in increasing tax compliance. High tax compliance will help the government in terms of funding to carry out work programs that can ultimately improve people’s lives.

Youth and Young Adults’ Knowledge and Perceptions of Risks and Benefits Regarding Cannabis Products: A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Over 1,700 Individuals

ABSTRACT Canada legalized the use of non-medical cannabis in 2018. This study examines youth and young adults’ knowledge and perceptions of harms, benefits, and education around cannabis use since legalization. An online survey was completed by a convenience sample of 1,759 individuals aged 12–25 years living in Manitoba, Canada. Most participants (n = 1,525, 86.7%) reported receiving education on the potential effects/harms related to cannabis; the most common topics included driving and cannabis use (79.9%), the mental harms of cannabis (67.4%), and addiction and dependency (66.3%). Youth who reported using cannabis more than once (n = 1,203) were more knowledgeable about the effects of cannabis than youth who never used cannabis or used cannabis once (n = 580; mean score: 6.6 versus 5.7 out of 8, respectively; p < .001). Vaping cannabis oil was perceived as the most harmful cannabis product among all participants. Among participants with experience using cannabis, the most frequently reported benefits were relaxation, improved sleep, and enhanced enjoyment of food/music. Half of the participants reported ever being in a car with someone driving high, of which, 40% of these participants reported doing so in the last 30 days. Future tailored education is needed to address knowledge related to cannabis use among youth and young adults who use and do not use cannabis.

Membentuk Karakter Peserta Didik yang Berilmu dan Bertaqwa

This research aims examine the concepts of knowledge and piety in the Al-Qur'an and their implementation in education, with a focus on Surah Ali Imran verse 18. The method used is literature study. The research results show that knowledge and piety have a close relationship and complement each other in forming a person with integrity. The integration of science and pious values ​​in the educational curriculum can be done through subject matter that reflects the concepts of monotheism, justice and respect for knowledge. Programs and activities that support the development of students' character and spirituality include taushiah, 3S empowerment (Smile, Greet, Greetings), reading short letters, and prayer before studying. Implementation of the values ​​of Surah Ali Imran verse 18 in daily life includes practicing monotheism, pursuing knowledge throughout life, upholding justice, and being a good example. This research concludes that the integration of knowledge and piety in education is very important forming a generation that is intellectually intelligent and has strong character and spirituality.

Toward an Education for Digital Safety Based on the Self-Perceived Competences of Pre-service Teachers

Digital competences are essential to promoting internet users’ appropriate, safe, responsible behavior, based on the digital society’s needs. We examine self-perception of digital safety education in 1366 students pursuing five degrees in Education from a Spanish university, 2022–2023, by analyzing how these students perceive and understand digital safety through a nine-dimension questionnaire that stresses time management when using the internet, netiquette, knowledge of digital identity and reputation, attention to legislation on personal data protection, caution in sharing data on the internet, and promotion of responsible attitudes toward publishing content. Correlations with gender, age, and degree program show that women score higher on identity and men on digital reputation. Being over 25 years old is a differentiating factor in three of the five dimensions, and pursuing Primary Education or the double degree Primary Education-French Studies differentiates several. Overall, the findings suggest that more attention is needed to knowledge, skills, and attitudes in education for digital safety.

Normal Pregnancy Care and Physiology and Select Pregnancy Complications: A Flipped Classroom Case for the OB/GYN Clerkship.

This module teaches core knowledge and skills for undergraduate medical education in reproductive health, providing instruction in the management of normal and abnormal pregnancy and labor utilizing interactive small-group flipped classroom methods and case-based instruction. Advance preparation materials were provided before the education session. The 2-hour session was facilitated by clinical educators using a faculty guide. Using voluntary surveys, we collected data to measure satisfaction among obstetrics and gynecology clerkship students and facilitators following each education session. Capturing six clerkships spanning 9 months, 116 students participated, and 64 students completed the satisfaction survey, with 97% agreeing that the session was helpful in applying knowledge and principles to common clinical scenarios. Most students (96%) self-reported that they achieved the session's learning objectives utilizing prework and interactive small-group teaching. Nine clinical instructors completed the survey; all agreed the provided materials allowed them to facilitate active learning, and the majority (89%) agreed they spent less time preparing to teach this curriculum compared to traditional didactics. This interactive flipped classroom session meets clerkship learning objectives related to the management of pregnancy and labor using standardized materials. The curriculum reduced preparation time for clinical educators as well.

Mapping racial justice to online teacher education

As many teacher education programs have returned to in-person instructional models since the initial interruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, little research examines innovative practices during the pandemic at the intersections of racial justice and online teacher education. This self-study illustrates how one Asian male teacher educator linked technological pedagogical content knowledge with anti-racist education in an online multicultural education course at a predominantly white institution in the Pacific Northwest of the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic. Implications include how teacher educators can bridge anti-racist education and technological pedagogical content knowledge in research and practice as an ongoing decolonial project in a post-pandemic world.

The Relationship between Education Level and Knowledge about Arsenic (As) Contamination in Blood Clam (Anadara granosa) at Traditional Market in North Surabaya

Background: Arsenic is one of the dangerous pollutant elements. Arsenic accumulated in clams and consumed by humans with a fairly frequent frequency will result in the accumulation in the body. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between education level and knowledge about arsenic contamination in blood clams sold in traditional markets at North Surabaya. Methods: This type of research was a quantitative analytical observational research with a cross sectional approach method that used primary data from direct interviewed and secondary data from previous research literature studies. The sample used was 35 blood clam sellers taken randomly with simple random sampling. The dependent variable in this study is the seller's knowledge and the independent variable is the level of education of blood clam traders. The data obtained were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: The chi-square analysis revealed that the seller's knowledge is not significant with the seller's education level (p &gt; 0,001). Conclusion: In conclusion, there are no correlation between education level and knowledge about arsenic contamination in blood clams sellers at traditional markets in North Surabaya.

Analisis Konsep Ilmu Islam dan Implikasinya dalam Kependidikan di MI Quraniah 8 Palembang

This research aims to analyze the concept of Islamic knowledge and its implications in education at MI Quraniah 8 Palembang. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive method with a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, which were then organized, categorized, and interpreted in detail. The findings were presented through a narrative that depicted the research findings. The results of the study indicate that at MI Quraniah 8 Palembang, the concept of Islamic knowledge is significantly integrated into the educational curriculum. Each subject approaches Islamic values closely. The concepts of tauhid (monotheism) and akhlak (morality) are taught through readings, prayers, and internalization in daily life. The role of teachers is crucial in supporting this integration as information providers. Therefore, it can be concluded that the concept of Islamic knowledge is effectively integrated into education at MI Quraniah 8 Palembang. The curriculum and teaching methods are directed towards shaping students' character and faith while integrating Islamic values. It is recommended that MI Quraniah 8 Palembang continues to develop an approach that integrates the concept of Islamic knowledge into the curriculum and teaching methods. Additionally, it is important to involve active participation from parents in supporting education based on Islamic values. In this regard, cooperation between educational institutions, teachers, and parents will strengthen the implementation of holistic Islamic education. Further research can be conducted to deepen the understanding of the effectiveness of integrating the concept of Islamic knowledge in education and its impact on shaping students' character and faith. A STUDY OF GENDER ENROLMENT IN SCHOOL EDUCATION WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO UDHAMPUR DISTRICT OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR

Universalization of Secondary education is viewed as a priority task in the context to enable young people to acquire the knowledge and skills for further education. The Gross enrolment Ratio in higher secondary has made significant improvement from 53.8% in 2020-21 to 57.6% in 2021-22in order to make this goal fulfill. The existing literature mainly focuses on differences in enrolment rates in government and private schools however, there are few studies exploring the enrolment rate differences between rural and urban areas of the nation. The paper analyzed status of gender in school education with special reference to urban and rural areas of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir. The study reflects increasing trend in enrolment patterns of school education at higher secondary stage in urban areas while as improvement in enrolment trends at higher secondary stages in rural areas. In addition various factors like infrastructural facilities in school and aggregate deprivation of parents also influence gender enrollment decisions that affect the enrolment pattern in school education. The results of the study can be helpful in reducing disparity, dropout rates and enhancing enrolment among urban and rural areas. The study will be helpful to educators, policy makers, researchers, and NGO’s to explore the different factors that hinder the survival, transition, and participation of urban and rural children in school education.

Analysis of Contemporary Islamic School System in the Light of Quran and Sunnah

The study aimed to investigate the curricula of the contemporary Islamic school system in the light of the Quran and Sunnah. The research was designed in a qualitative paradigm so that an in-depth vision of the study concepts can be obtained. This was a triangulation study which included document analysis, observations, and interviews. A comprehensive exploration of the integration of religious and secular knowledge in Islamic education. The primary focus of the study was on character development and ethicaleducation. After an in-depth analysis of the qualitative data, key themes and subthemes have emerged. It was recommended that a balanced approach to the integration of Islamic and secular knowledge should be adopted in Islamic schooling. Further, a need for continuous reflective practices is also required in the process.

주희 중화신설의 도덕교육적 의의

The purpose of this study is to reveal the moral educational significance of Zhu Xi’s ZhongHeXinShuo(中和新說). Zhu Xi’s Xin-Xing-Lun(心性論) changes from ZhongHeJiuShuo(中和舊說) to ZhongHeXinShuo(中和新說), establishing a new mind-centered system. This study discussed the changed content elements of Zhu Xi’s Xin-Xing-Lun(心性論) and the resulting moral educational implications. First, it was revealed that as Xin(心) controls Xìng (性) and Qíng(情), the predominant power of Xin can be exerted even during wèifā(未發). Accordingly, moral education should be structured in a way that helps learners cultivate their inner morality. In addition, by applying the concept of zhijue(知覺), which is the function of Xin, it was revealed that the scope of activity of Xin was expanded to both in weifa(未發) and yifa(已 發). As the role of always-aware zhijue has become important, moral education should be structured in a way that can improve perceptual discernment. The meaning of this study can be found in the fact that Zhu Xi’s ZhongHeXinShuo can serve as a philosophical foundation for character development education and moral knowledge education.

EXPLORING THE EDUCATIONAL IMPACT: A STUDY ON ACCOUNTING STUDENTS’ LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT DURING INTERNSHIP

Internships are pivotal in bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application, offering students invaluable experiential learning and professional development opportunities. This research study explores the educational impact of internship periods, focusing on participating students' learning outcomes and experiences. Drawing on a qualitative research approach, data were obtained from student internship reports and were analysed using NVivo software. The findings reveal multifaceted learning experiences encompassing the application of accounting education knowledge, technical skills acquisition, soft skills development, industry knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork dynamics. Through thematic analysis, key themes emerged, shedding light on the transformative nature of internship experiences and their profound influence on students' personal and professional growth. The implications of these findings for educational institutions, internship programs, and policymakers are discussed, alongside recommendations for enhancing internship experiences and optimizing learning outcomes. This study contributes to the literature on internships and offers insights into effective strategies for integrating experiential learning opportunities within higher education curricula.

Hubungan Tingkat Pendidikan Ibu dengan Pengetahuan, Sikap, dan Praktik Pencegahan Demam Berdarah Dengue di Kota Banda Aceh

Dengue fever (DHF), one of the most concerning health problems in Indonesia.Individual knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to DHF are important factors that can influence the occurrence of DHF cases. Meanwhile, one of the determinants contributing to determining knowledge, attitudes, and practices is the level of educationand relationship these factors were not tested yet in Banda Aceh.Therefore, this studyfocusedon determining the relationship between mothers' education level and knowledge, attitudes, and practices of DHF prevention in Banda Aceh.This research was a descriptive correlative study with a cross-sectional approach involving 228 mothers living in villages with a high risk of DHF, selected using a proportional random sampling technique. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire containing 62 statements to measure knowledge, attitudes, and practices of DHF prevention, then analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis test.The data analysis showed a relationship between the mother's education level and knowledge (p-value 0.00) about DHF and DHF prevention practices (p-value 0.033). Still, there was no relationship between the mother's education level and attitude (p-value 0.754) against DHF in Banda Aceh. This study indicates that maternal education factors need to be considered in planning community nursing interventions to increase knowledge and practice of dengue preventionthat is adjusted to the level of education of mothers in the community.

Prospects of Interdisciplinary Research into the Problem of Resource Mobilization of Academic Staff

Introduction. Mobilization of the resource potential of academic staff is a key task of university management. The development of management approaches to its solution should be preceded by a comprehensive study of both the academic staff resources and management practices. The possibilities of research are provided by an interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological framework. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the possibilities of developing interdisciplinary foundations for the study of the mobilization of the academic staff resource potential and the prospects for empirical study. Materials and Methods. The theoretico-methodological nature of the article required the use of methods for generalizing and systematizing the provisions of interdisciplinary and disciplinary approaches and theories that have been developed by social and humanitarian science. The main directions for the exploration of the problem of academic staff resource potential in modern socio-humanitarian knowledge have been identified through the method of systematic analysis of literature. Results. The main result of the research is the substantiation of the theoretical and methodological framework for an interdisciplinary study of the mobilization of the academic staff resources. This justification is based on the “revision” of theoretical and methodological provisions of theories of education. The basic interdisciplinary theories are the theories of adult continuing education, professional development and education, non-cognitive human capital, social networks, scientific and educational knowledge. Community-based, resource-based, institutional, normative, and communicative approaches are in demand. The provisions of these theories and approaches are adapted to the subject of the study. An important result of the research is the substantiation of the interdisciplinary synthesis in the practices of university management. Discussion and Conclusion. The prospects for using the interdisciplinary framework in an empirical study dealing with evaluation and activation of academic staff resources are shown. The practical significance of the results lies in the development of a model of mobilization management of the academic staff resources.

The impact of clinical internship experience on nursing students' attitudes towards death and choices of end-of-life care: A self-control study.

This study aims to explore the impact of emergency department internships on the attitudes towards death among undergraduate nursing students and their preferences for end-of-life care settings. Additionally, the study analyzes the reasons behind nursing students' choices of end-of-life care settings and provides insights for improving undergraduate education on attitudes towards death and end-of-life care, and provide reference for the development of emergency hospice care. This study adopts an observational design with a self-controlled before-and-after approach. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 96 nursing interns between July 2021 to June 2022. Demographic information and data on attitudes towards death, and preferences for end-oflife care location were collected by online questionnaire. Paired test were conducted to compare differences between groups. The study included a total of 96 nursing students with an average age of 21.11 years. The scores for the avoidance-acceptance dimension of death attitudes before and after the internship were 2.40 (1.80, 3.00) and 2.20 (1.60, 3.00), respectively, showing a significant difference (Z = -2.084, p = 0.037). Factors such as gender, experience in caring for critically ill or dying patients, knowledge of death education, and discussions about death at home were found to influence nursing students' attitudes towards death. Nursing students expressed a preference for receiving end-of-life care and treatment in their homes or in hospice/palliative care wards, while the intensive care unit, emergency department, and nursing homes were the least preferred settings. There were significant differences in nursing students' preferences for end-of-life care settings before and after the internship (p = 0.000). Importantly, the number of nursing students expressing a desire to receive end-of-life care in the emergency department increased from 2 to 7 after the internship, while the number of students not wanting end-of-life care in the emergency department decreased by 5.
