Data Mining-driven Multiple Regression Analysis of Cultural Identity in International Students’ Perceptions of Chinese Culture

A multiple regression fitting analysis was conducted to investigate the level of cultural identification of 222 international students studying in China with respect to Chinese culture. The dependent variables are the Chinese Culture Integration Will (CCIW) and the Chinese Culture Integration Degree (CCID). A number of independent variables are taken into account, including gender, age, and religion. A cost-benefit approach is employed, with management convergence (MC) on the cost side, and the intention to work in China (IWC) on the benefit side. Based on data mining and regression model fitting, we use the software program of SPSS to compute the KMO of the questionnaire data, make factor analysis, and then utilize the econometrics software package to make stepwise ordinary least squares estimation. The results indicate that active involvement in school cultural clubs, as well as aspirations for employment within China, significantly influence students’ willingness to comprehend Chinese culture. In contrast, personal characteristics such as gender, age, and nationality appear to have a negligible impact. In order to significantly strengthen students’ cultural identities, they need to become proficient in Chinese language, interact more frequently with Chinese peers, participate in cultural activities at school, and develop effective assimilation strategies. The desire to work in China does not significantly contribute to the integration of cultures. It should be noted that the quality of instruction in courses related to Chinese culture as well as participation in extracurricular activities off-campus do not significantly enhance the level of cultural identification among students. By analyzing big data on international students in China, it is possible to gain insight into international student education and Sino-foreign exchanges.

DISTANCE LEARNING METHODS FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL STUDENTS

In response to contemporary challenges and the imperative to adapt medical education to a distance learning format, particularly for international students, there arises a pressing need to develop and implement effective teaching methodologies. This article is aimed at investigating and discussing modern approaches to distance learning tailored for medical students, especially those from abroad. The highlights recent literature sources exploring current teaching methods in distance education for international medical students and outlining the most promising strategies for ensuring high-quality medical education through online platforms. For this analysis, a variety of sources including scientific articles, pedagogical reports, and personal experiences in teaching medical disciplines such as general surgery, nursing practice in surgery, and patient care with a surgical focus in an online format were consulted. It is imperative to underscore that the success of distance education for medical professionals hinges not only on the utilization of technology but also on the cultivation of interactive medical communities. Collaborative problem-solving of clinical tasks and case discussions foster the development of professional identity. The analysis indicates that employing interactive virtual lectures, online simulation workshops, and virtual clinical cases enables medical students to acquire practical skills in real-time. Based on this analysis, it can be inferred that effective distance education for foreign medical practitioners demands a comprehensive approach. Interactive methodologies, teacher support, and the integration of virtual tools facilitate not only the assimilation of theoretical knowledge but also the development of practical skills essential for future medical professionals. The conclusions of this work can be used for the further development of distance medical education, ensuring the high quality of training of specialists in the field of medicine.

Exploring the Current Situation and Path of Education Management for International Students in China Majoring in Arts

With the development of national higher education, international student education in China has gradually entered the stage of improving quality and efficiency. The students majoring in arts are a small part of the whole international student education market, although there are many researches and achievements on the education management of international students in China, there is very little attention and research on the management of international students majoring in arts. This paper shows that the number of students is less, their Chinese language ability is weak, but because of the characteristics of their professional study, this group of students has strong practical and cultural communication abilities. Based on this, the paper hopes to find some ways for the current problems in the education and management of international students majoring in arts in China by searching for policy support from the government, making clear the school orientation precisely, strengthening the construction of internal management system in schools, and creating a professional and vocational international student education and management team.

Intercultural Communication Competence Among Higher Education International Students: A Systematic Literature Review

The intercultural communication competence of higher education international students is critical in the multiple culture environment. Understanding how international students improve their intercultural communication competence is vital for providing effective training and teaching in higher education. However, there is a lack of systematic literature reviews on this topic, especially in quantitative methods. This study was dedicated to performing an exhaustive review of existing literature following the PRISMA-SCR guidelines. The findings revealed the absence of a consistent definition and measurement framework for ICC, which complicates the synthesis of research findings and the development of effective educational strategies. The implications of these findings are substantial for educational practices and policy development. They point towards the necessity of creating inclusive and empirically grounded ICC training programs, integrating ICC into international education policies, and providing comprehensive support for the cultural adaptation of international students.

This phenomenon promotes cultural exchanges and integration among countries as well as higher education reform, which is of great significance in enhancing the international influence of higher education in each country. However, there are also some challenges faced by higher education students when studying abroad. The article digs into the origin and history of studying abroad, analyzes the current situation and reasons for higher education students in China to study abroad, discusses the opportunities and challenges faced by higher education students in China when studying abroad, and analyzes the trend of studying abroad in China.

Research on Cross-Cultural Adaptation of International Students from Countries along the Belt and Road Initiative Route

With the implementation of the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative, China has deepened economic and cultural exchanges and dialogue with the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative route, which has a direct influence on a significant increase in the number of international students in China. Thus, it has become an urgent need for colleges and universities in China to solve the problem of cultivating international students. The huge difference in cultural background, ideology and language between Chinese students and international students, and even among the international students is an important obstacle to the education of international students. In this paper, 160 international students from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) route admitted by a Chinese university are selected as the objects to explore the cross-cultural adaptation difficulty confronted by international students. Additionally, this paper aims to put forward several measures in a bid to continuously improve the cross-cultural adaptation of international students and thus promote our economic and cultural exchanges with foreign countries. The B&R Initiative is a kind of global view that China puts forward beyond national and ideological barriers to conform to the historical development trend of human society. It is the inevitable by-product of economic globalization. With the deepening of the B&R initiative, China has deepened its economic and cultural exchanges with the countries along the Belt and Road initiative route, which has led to a significant increase in the number of international students in China. The Annual Report on the Development of Chinese Students Studying Abroad (2017) showed that among the top 15 countries from which international students in China came, most countries were those along the BRI route, among which Thailand, India, Pakistan, Laos, etc., showed a significant increase in the number of overseas students studying in China. This indicates the Initiative’s big role in promoting China's educational cooperation with the countries along the BRI route. However, different language systems, education systems, talent cultivation systems and other barriers have caused an obvious cross-cultural adaptation of international students in China. To this end, this paper aims at promoting international students to better adapt to China's education mode, by exploring the cross-cultural adaptation of international students from countries along the BRI route.

Methodological opportunities for international students acquiring content and language integrated learning in a contemporary educational environment

Russian Federation has consistently ranked among the top ten countries in the world for the number of international students enrolled in secondary and higher education institutions to pursue a specialization. In this context, one of the most crucial and pressing problems of Russian pedagogy is the high-quality education. The current system, however, does not adequately address this issue, as seen by the high number of first-year international students that are expelled each year for not comprehending certain concepts in Russian language. In this regard, the goal of the study was to identify the challenges that prohibit international students from receiving a successful education in Russian universities' junior programs and to devise solutions to these challenges. Monitoring studies were carried out with the help of international students enrolled in the RUDN University's first-year programs for bachelor's, master's, and speciality degrees in order to achieve this objective. The data acquired show that the system of pre-university education for international students has to be modernized in terms of both the Russian language and specific academic areas. Subject-language integration as a learning strategy has enormous methodological promise for raising standards and effectiveness. Content and language integrated learning has a lot of methodological promise for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the current system. The author take into account and carefully analyze the technologies and guiding principles of this notion in relation to the duties of preparing international students for pre-university education. The theory and methodology of teaching the Russian language and specialized subjects in the Russian language to foreigners with a professional orientation are being developed by this research, which also helps to develop the conditions for maximizing the educational training of foreign students in Russian universities.

The development and evaluation of a short-term international student research and educational program

ObjectivesThis study aimed to describe the “how-to” details and processes for developing and evaluating a short-term international student research and education program. MethodsThis study included two parts: development and implementation, and evaluation of the program. A foreign doctoral nursing student requested to visit the West Virginia University School of Nursing for research training and academic teaching experience. The global nursing program coordinator and the lead mentor met and identified the program basis and team participants. Learning activities were related to this student’s interest in older adults and in-home end-of-life care, included four contents: research; educational engagement; practice/clinical engagement; special activities & professional development training and courses. The program evaluation was conducted at the end of the six-month visit using a focus group and an anonymous short survey. Participants (n = 10) included the host university’s faculty, graduate students, and one short-term international student. ResultsContent analysis of the participant’s short survey answers and the focus group discussion resulted in three themes: 1) lessons learned from participating in the program (enhanced diversity in education and research, gaining new global healthcare knowledge, and self-reflection on and promoting cultural awareness); 2) program barriers and challenges (the visa application process, the English language barrier, the lack of public transportation in the town, and scheduling conflicts); and 3) strategies to overcome these barriers and challenges (adding cultural diversity information into curriculum; attending English proficiency with others in the class; using different communication techniques; continuous collaboration with the University’s Office of Global Affairs for the Visa application process; providing interactive experiences). All participants rated their engagement in the program as very satisfactory (Mean = 4.67, SD = 0.50), and highly impacted their nursing skills in research, teaching, and clinical practice (Mean = 4.67, SD = 0.50). ConclusionsAll the participants have gained some experience in this program, which can be used for future teaching guidance. Further, international nursing students need assistance to adjust and thrive in the host university learning community. Faculty must be culturally sensitive, understand the visiting foreign nursing student’ learning needs, and advocate for an environment suitable for enhancing the students’ learning.

Exploring Higher Education International Student Education Management Based on Refined Management Approach

From the current perspective of management models, admission methods, management concepts, and service quality of international students in universities, we need to pursue a more refined approach in overall management. In terms of recruitment, improvements should be made in market segmentation, increased promotional efforts, enhanced information services, and the establishment of a comprehensive evaluation mechanism for the quality of student sources. Regarding daily management and services, it is necessary to construct a sound management system for foreign students, promoting the formation and development of the "Study in China" brand. With China experiencing a growing trend in studying abroad, it has become the largest study destination in Asia. According to statistics, in 2023, 34.8 million international students from 196 countries and regions have enrolled in 1004 universities. However, as the scale rapidly expands, we must recognize the poor quality of Chinese study abroad education. The future focus should shift from "expanding scale" to "improving quality and efficiency," emphasizing the enhancement of study abroad services and the improvement of study abroad quality.

Addressing Issues Related to International Students' Chinese Cultural Cognition, Learning Interest and Cross-Cultural Adaptation by Developing Chinese Traditional Music Module in Higher Vocational Colleges of China

The increasing number of international students is not only conducive to promoting the international development of Chinese higher vocational education, but also brings greater challenges in terms of education of international students. According to the main problems international students encountered in Chinese higher vocational colleges, this study developed the Chinese traditional music module to enhance Chinese culture cognition, learning interest and cross-cultural adaptation of international students. Five kinds of music training were applied in developed module including listening training, dancing training, spoken word training, rhythm training, and improvisation training. Teaching content of developed module contained Chinese music from 960 to1912 in Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. The developed Chinese traditional music module was discussed in detail. Five kinds of music training combined with Chinese cultural stories behind music have improved the teaching effectiveness of module. Cultural education is of great significance for the development of international education.

Exploring Intercultural Teaching Strategies to Promote International Students' National Education

With its long history, rich cultural traditions and rapidly developing economy, China attracts international students from all over the world to study and experience. With the increase of international students, promoting their national education about China has become an important and urgent task. This paper discusses cross-cultural teaching strategies to promote international students' national education. Based on the needs and challenges of international students' national education, cross-cultural teaching strategies such as designing an inclusive curriculum, encouraging communication and interaction, engaging in cross-cultural comparison and reflection, fostering cross-cultural sensitivity and adaptability, as well as teachers' roles and pedagogical support are proposed. These strategies have a positive impact on the comprehensive development of international students and can facilitate the effective implementation of national education for international students.

A Study on the Teaching Practice of Multimodal Data Analysis in International Chinese Language Education for International Students in China

Abstract In this paper, an improved semantic learning model under multimodal data fusion is proposed to model both image attention features and problem attention features using a network architecture of collaborative attention learning, which can effectively reduce irrelevant feature interference and extract more distinguishable features for image and problem representations. In addition, to address the high dimensionality as well as complex computational problems in the multimodal data fusion process, multimodal bilinear decomposition methods are utilized in order to achieve a more effective fusion of visual features in images and text features in questions to capture more complex interactions between multiple models. Compared with TF-IDF and TextRank, the accuracy rate of the model in this paper is 9.7% and 12.1% higher than them, respectively. The F=16.15, p<.05, for the first group of scores and the second group of scores for international students in Chinese language classes playing listening materials in a combination of audio, video, and Chinese characters. The F=8.527, p<.05, for the second group of scores and the third group of scores.

Foreign readers’ learning strategies for studying Ivan Goncharov’s novel “Oblomov” and Ivan Bunin’s poem “The Hollow Water is Raging …”

The article deals with innovative methods of working with text in the process of studying Russian literature by international students. We present an integrative structure of working with text in Russian as a foreign language, which includes not only a special type of its analysis, but also the use of extra-text components. The article describes the technology of conducting a primary analysis of the text of fiction using questions on all spheres of readers’ perception. Such an innovative method of teaching the Russian language and culture to international students makes it possible to pay special attention to the methodological invariant of the implementation of literary works in various types of art as a linguodidactic technology focused on the cultural paradigm. The article shows the sequence of work with metaphor as the image-symbol of the whole literary work. It is this technique that allows you to find in the text an object that reflects the main concepts of the work. Thus, a multifaceted understanding of the complex works of Russian classical literature, necessary for a good literary education of international students, is carried out. We pay close attention to working with texts of large formats with a multi-vector distribution of meanings. We thoroughly describe the technology of working with poetic texts of classical Russian literature, which are both difficult to perceive and necessary to understand the peculiarities of Russian literature and the Russian soul.

High quantity but low quality? Analysing the Education of international students in China from the perspective of institutional logics

ABSTRACT This paper focuses on the education of international students (EIS) in China to explore the “high quantity and relatively low quality” outcomes of EIS by reference to the microlevel actions of organizations. Semistructured interviews were conducted with different organizational actors. These interviews showed how organizational actions in terms of student enrolment, training and assessment have led to “high quantity and relatively low quality” outcomes. In regard to the reasons underlying these organizational actions, Chinese universities face complex and competing institutional logics with incompatible prescriptions. Chinese universities have prioritized the state and market logics over professional logic; thus, they have made substantive efforts to meet the demand for quantity but have responded only symbolically to the demand for quality. This research also shows that universities are not only shaped by institutional logics; their actions can also reproduce institutional logics.
