Facilitating the integration of religious education for parents of children with special needs is a crucial component of delivering services aimed at introducing Islam and fostering the development of religious interests and talents. This program is driven by the recognition that parents of children with special needs encounter challenges in facilitating religious education and nurturing their skills, particularly in the area of memorizing the Qur'an. The socialization method employed employs a personalized and participatory approach with each parent, aimed at enhancing their comprehension of how to administer religious classes and demonstrate religious class activities effectively. The primary emphasis is on teaching letters or Makhorijul letters. The examination results indicated a rise in parents' comprehension of how to educate children with special needs in matters of religion.

Associations of parental education with children's infectious diseases and their mediating factors: the Japan Environment and Children's Study (JECS).

BackgroundParents' educational background is presumed to influence the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases in children through their decisions about vaccinations and other family lifestyle choices. Regarding voluntary vaccination, a household's economic situation may also be associated with non-vaccination. Therefore, this study investigated the association between parental education and vaccine-preventable diseases (varicella, mumps, influenza [flu], pertussis, measles, and rubella) in children, which currently remains elusive.MethodsWe used datasets from the Japan Environment and Children's Study, which included 104,062 fetal records; our study population comprised 80,930 children up to the age of three years. The associations between parental educational background and children's infectious diseases were examined using binomial logistic regression analysis. The mediating effects of household income, vaccination, and smoking were examined using a path analysis.ResultsFor varicella, mumps, and influenza covered by voluntary vaccination, a higher education level of the father was associated with a lower incidence of infection. The association between mothers' education and children's infection was limited. There were both income-mediated and non-income-mediated pathways between parental education and voluntary vaccination. For pertussis, measles, and rubella, which are covered by routine vaccines, there was no association between parental education and the child's infection.ConclusionAn association between parental education and childhood infections was observed. Additionally, providing financial support for vaccination and communicating the benefits of vaccination in a way that parents at all levels of education can understand will help reduce the incidence of infectious diseases among children.

Parenting Online Education for Parents with Autism Spectrum Disorder Children: A Systematic Review

Objective To explore and identify parenting online education for parents with autism spectrum disorder children. This review was carried out according to preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analyses (PRISMA). Methods Search engines such as Google Scholar, MEDLINE, and PubMed search for observational studies conducted from 2011 to 2021. The keywords involved in the literature search were online parenting education or module, online parenting, parents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children, and parents with special needs children. Results About 41,417 articles were screened, and 753 duplicate articles were removed. Only three studies were included in this systematic review, as those papers investigated online parenting education for parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. This study found a strong association between online parenting education and the improvement of parents’ parenting skills in managing their children with ASD. However, due to the lower number of studies yielded for this review, there is still insufficient information and data to conclusively support the findings. Conclusion Further research is recommended to explore this area of study to provide more concrete evidence on the effectiveness of online parenting education among parents with special needs children that emphasizes parenting skills.

SOSIALISASI PARENTING PENDIDIKAN SEKS BAGI ORANG TUA ANAK BERKEBUTUHAN KHUSUS DI SLB NEGERI I KOTA PARE PARE SULAWESI SELATAN

The objective of this community service activity is to conduct a comprehensive study aimed at enhancing the understanding of parents with children with special needs at SLB Negeri 1 Pare-Pare City, South Sulawesi. The study specifically focuses on the challenges faced by parents in comprehending the changes in their children with special needs during the transition from childhood to adolescence. The behavior and needs of children with special needs during adolescence are similar to those of children without special needs. Almost all children with special needs do not encounter issues with their body growth and development, including when they enter puberty. One of the responsibilities of parents is to provide an understanding of sex, along with guidance on how to protect themselves from sexual harassment and violence. To encourage parents of children with special needs to assist their children in understanding these issues, socialization is conducted along with simple exercises in parenting sex education for parents of children with special needs. The method used involves lectures and question-and-answer sessions on simple sex parenting exercises, with 22 parents participating. The results obtained after this activity show an increase in sexual parenting knowledge, as evidenced by the pre-test and post-test results. There was an 85.7% increase in the knowledge of the training participants, with a noticeable average improvement. This suggests that it may be recommended to expand the scope of service material with more complex exercises.

Disease knowledge and health literacy in parents of children with sickle cell disease.

We aimed to (1) describe sickle cell disease (SCD) knowledge and health literacy levels in parents of children with SCD, (2) examine associations with socio-demographic factors and (3) analyse the association with hospital admissions andfrequency of occurrence of painful episodes. Parents who presented with their child at routine hospital consultation at the National Sickle Cell Disease Centre in Benin were administered a questionnaire assessing SCD knowledge, health literacy (newest vital sign [NVS]) and socio-demographic and clinical characteristics. In total, 117 parents participated (108, 92.3% females). The predominant SCD genotype was HbSS (79.5%). The average SCD knowledge score was 13.6 (standard deviation [SD]=2.0). Only 34 (29.1%) participants correctly answered ≥70% of the questions, indicating good knowledge. Health literacy was relatively low (mean NVS score=3.3; SD=1.1). SCD knowledge was higher in parents with older children (p=0.001) and higher education levels (primary, p=0.010; tertiary, p=0.036 compared to participants with no formal education). Hospital admissions were more frequent when parents had lower SCD knowledge (p=0.034) and in parents with younger children (p=0.039). No associations were found between health literacy and hospital admissions (p=0.940) and frequency of occurrence of painful episodes (p=0.224). Continuous disease-specific education for parents of children with SCD may help them better identify and prevent the occurrence of symptoms and decrease the number of hospital admissions.

KNOWLEDGE OF PARENTS' DENTAL AND ORAL HEALTH MAINTENANCE WITH THE STATUS OF ORAL HYGIENE OF CHILDREN WITH MENTAL RETARDATION

Background: Children with mental retardation have trouble taking care of their own dental health, making parental involvement extremely important in directing, offering understanding, reminding, and providing facilities for children to be able to take care of their teeth and oral hygiene. Objective: The purpose of this research was to examine the dental hygiene status of children with mental retardation at SDLB-C Yayasan Bahagia Tasikmalaya City in connection to their parents' knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance. Methods: A cross-sectional study based on a series of observations. Fifteen families with children who have mental disabilities were selected for the study through a purposive sampling method. A questionnaire and the Spearman rank correlation coefficient from the OHI-S.test are utilized for analysis. Results: The test's significance value was 0.029 0.05, indicating that there is a statistically significant association between parental education and dental health in children with mental impairment. Conclusion: Parents' knowledge has a strong relationship with the oral hygiene status of mentally retarded children at SDLB-C Yayasan Bahagia Tasikmalaya City, with coefficient correlation value 0,563.

Acceptability to and Engagement With a Virtual Sickle Cell Trait Education Program (SCTaware): Single-Center Prospective Study.

Public health programs are tasked with educating the community on health topics, but it is unclear whether these programs are acceptable to learners. Currently, these programs are delivered via a variety of platforms including in-person, virtually, and over the telephone. Sickle cell trait (SCT) education for parents of children with this trait is one of many education programs provided by the Ohio Department of Health. The novel SCTaware videoconference education program was developed by a research team after central Ohio's standard program transitioned from in-person to telephone-only education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our objectives were to investigate the acceptability of the format and engagement with the SCTaware education and assess parental worry about having a child with SCT before and after receiving SCTaware. This was a single-center, prospective study of English-speaking parents of children <3 years of age identified to have hemoglobin S trait by newborn screening. Parents who previously received SCT education by telephone, were able to be contacted, and had access to an electronic device capable of videoconferencing were eligible to complete surveys after receiving the virtual SCTaware education program. The SCTaware educator also completed a survey to assess participant engagement. Data were summarized descriptively and a McNemar test was used to compare parental worry before and after receiving SCTaware. In total, 55 participants completed follow-up surveys after receiving standard SCT telephone education and then completing SCTaware. Most (n=51) participants reported that the SCTaware content and visuals were very easy to understand (n=47) and facilitated conversation with the educator (n=42). All of them said the visuals were respectful and trustworthy, helped them understand content better, and that their questions were addressed. Nearly two-thirds (62%, n=34) reported that the pictures appeared very personal and applied to them. The educator noted most participants (n=45) were engaged and asked questions despite having to manage distractions during their education sessions. Many participants (n=33) reported some level of worry following telephone-only education; this was significantly reduced after receiving SCTaware (P<.001). Our results suggest that SCTaware is acceptable and engaging to parents. While telephone education may make SCT education more accessible, these findings suggest that many parents experience significant worry about their child with SCT after these sessions. A study to evaluate SCTaware's effectiveness at closing parents' SCT knowledge gaps is ongoing.

Explaining gaps by parental education in children’s early language and social outcomes at age 3–4 years: evidence from harmonised data from three countries

Child outcomes vary by family’s socioeconomic status (SES). Research on explanatory factors underlying early SES-related disparities has mainly focused on specific child outcomes (e.g., language skills) and selected influencing factors in single countries often with a focus on individual differences but not explicitly on early SES-related gaps. This study uses harmonised data from longitudinal large-scale studies conducted in the United Kingdom, United States, and Germany to examine parental education-related gaps in early child language and social skills. Twelve theoretically proposed family-, child-, and childcare-related factors were systematically evaluated as explanatory factors. In all countries, parental education-related gaps were particularly pronounced for early child language compared to social skills. In the decomposition analyses, the home learning environment was the only measure that significantly explained gaps in all child outcomes across all countries. Early centre-based care attendance, family income, and maternal age at childbirth contributed to gaps in child outcomes with the specific pattern of results varying across outcomes and countries. Maternal depressive feelings significantly contributed only to explaining gaps in children’s social skills. Thus, while some mechanisms found to underpin early parental education-related gaps can be generalized from single-country, single-domain studies, others are outcome- and context-specific.

Education in the family environment is an informal education that is first received by children. Therefore education in the family is the basic formation of children’s characters and attitudes. School is a supplement to the family, meaning that the position of the school is basically to support parental education (Rahayu 2012). In addition to the intensity of parental education in children's learning activities which will theoretically motivate and affect students learning achievement, then the socioeconomic status factors of parents are thought to also support student learning achievement and interest in learning. This study used a meta-analysis of data. The measurement instrument used is to use at least 4 educational journals about how parents’ socioeconomic factors impact student learning achievement, especially in junior high school. This study uses descriptive data analysis techniques. The parents' occupation, in this case, affects how parents can materially facilitate children to support their studies and the time they have to guide the children in learning at home.

Sex education: Sensitization amongst the parents of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the city of Nagpur

Parents of children with special needs are less sensitized with regard to sex education, specifically in rural areas, they have no idea about the upbringing of their children with or without disabilities. With regard to sex education, parents feel shy to discuss the issue among themselves, it's still a big taboo in rural society, resulting in a lack of sexuality-related knowledge amongst the adolescent group with intellectual disabilities or any other disabilities. On today's date, it is of utmost importance to empower the adolescent group with disabilities with sexuality-related education, to make them lead a dignified life. People with disabilities are very prone to sexuality-related abuse in their daily life. This study aimed to study the awareness level amongst the parents of persons with intellectual disabilities regarding sexuality-related issues. The subjects of this study were parents of persons with intellectual disabilities who were studying at the Day care center for students with Intellectual disabilities in Nagpur (Sample size = 50). A cross-sectional research design with a purposive sampling method was used in this study. The scale developed by Lakshmi and Navya (2014) on Sexual Health Awareness Education for Parents of Children with Intellectual Disabilities was used. We found significant differences with respect to the knowledge they had regarding sexuality-related issues among the parents of persons with intellectual disabilities. Significant gender-related differences in sexual health education awareness (knowledge, attitudes, practices) were found among parents of people with intellectual disabilities. There was no significant difference in awareness of sexual health education by family type. Parents living in rural areas are less responsive to knowledge and practice than those living in urban areas. However, parents living in urban areas scored higher in the attitudinal dimensions than those living in rural areas.

Education for Parents of Children with Gadget Addiction

Background: Inappropriate and excessive use of gadgets can cause addiction and interfere with physical, psychological, and emotional health, increase social isolation, and negatively affect development, especially in children. The resulting impact will be greatly influenced by the role of parents, family and the environment. Purpose: This study aims to understand what education can be provided to parents of children with gadget addiction, along with how parents can choose toys and alternative games for children to reduce this gadget addiction. Methods: The design used in this article was a narrative review that involved collecting and analyzing journals using the keywords "addiction", "children", "education", "parent" and "gadget"; this obtained 10 journal articles from PubMed, two journal articles from ScienceDirect, 14 journal articles from Google Scholar published between 2015–2020, three books, and one collection of survey data from the web. Results: There were several strategies that could be applied in managing the use of gadgets by children. The authoritative type of parenting style, good parent-child relationships, parent-child attachment and family environment conditions could also affect the use of gadgets and its impact on children. Parents could additionally provide toys and alternative games suitable for the children’s age, developmental ability and safety needs. Conclusion: Parents are expected to understand how to manage children with gadget addiction and how they can choose toys and alternative games for children to reduce gadget addiction.

This study aims to examine the intellectual structure of the research field regarding the education for parents of children with disabilities. Korean keywords meaning ‘education for parents of children with disabilities’, ‘education for mothers of children with disabilities’, ‘mothers of children with disabilities’, and ‘education for fathers of children with disabilities’ were entered as search terms into the database of the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS). This is to screen for peer-reviewed journal articles in South Korea on the research field. After collecting the keywords from the articles, the characteristics of the overall intellectual structure of the field, and the centralities of the keywords, the clusters were investigated by applying the keyword network analysis method. NetMiner 4.4 was used for the analysis and for also visualizing the research results. The findings indicated that the keyword network of the research field consists of three components. ‘Parent education,’ ‘children with disabilities,’ ‘children with autism,’ and ‘children with developmental disabilities’ were the keywords with high－degree centrality, betweenness centrality, and closeness centrality. The cluster analysis identified 12 subfields within the research field. The characteristics of the intellectual structure of the research field were summarized and the limitations, significance, and insights for further research were discussed.

WeChat-assisted pre-operative health education improves the quality of life of parents of children with ventricular septal defects: A prospective randomised controlled study.

This study aimed to explore the effect of implementing pre-operative WeChat-assisted health education for parents of children with restrictive ventricular septal defects to improve their quality of life. A prospective randomised controlled study was conducted in a provincial hospital in China. Participants were randomly divided into the intervention group (WeChat group, n= 35) and the control group (leaflet group, n= 35). The quality of life of parents of children with restricted ventricular septal defects was studied. Compared with the leaflet group, the WeChat group had a significantly lower score for the pre-operative Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) (P< 0.05). The pre-operative SAS score in the WeChat group was significantly lower than that at the first visit (P< 0.05). However, the SAS score in the leaflet group was similar at the time of preoperation and the first visit (P> 0.05). The pre-operative scores of the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) scale in the physiological, psychological, social, and environmental fields and the total life quality score in the WeChat group were significantly higher than those of the leaflet group (P< 0.05). Implementing pre-operative WeChat-assisted health education for parents of children with restrictive ventricular septal defects can effectively relieve their anxiety and improve their quality of life.

Effect of the Use of WeChat to Disseminate Preoperative Health Education to Parents of Children with Restrictive Ventricular Septal Defects: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study

This study explored the clinical effect of implementing WeChat-based preoperative health education for parents of children with restrictive ventricular septal defect. A prospective randomized controlled study was conducted in a provincial hospital on the southeast coast of China. Participants were randomly divided into an intervention (WeChat) group (n = 35) and a control group (leaflet) group (n = 35). The study explored the parents' knowledge of preoperative care, the follow-up rate, and complications of children with restrictive ventricular septal defect. The score of preoperative care knowledge of the WeChat group (66.9 ± 3.5) was significantly higher than that of the leaflet group (47.3 ± 6.3) (P = .006). Compared with the score of care knowledge at the first visit, the score of the WeChat group at the preoperation was significantly higher (P < .05), whereas the increase in the score of the leaflet group was not significant. The rate of lost follow-up in the WeChat group (0%) was significantly lower than in the leaflet group (16.7%) (P = .02). The complications in the leaflet group were significantly higher than in the WeChat group. Using WeChat to provide preoperative health education to parents of children with restrictive ventricular septal defect can effectively enhance the parents' knowledge of preoperative care and reduce the occurrence of complications and loss to follow-up.

Storytelling als innovative Methode zur videobasierten Edukation für Eltern von Kindern mit atopischer Dermatitis.

Storytelling as an innovative method of video-based education for parents of children with atopic dermatitis Abstract. Background: Atopic Dermatitis (AD) is the most chronic skin disease in children and affects up to 20 % of children in developed countries. Chronic inflammation of the skin, itching, redness, and non-dermatologic symptoms like sleep disturbance are frequent and have a negative impact on the child's quality of life and their family. Education is one of the most important aspects of managing AD. Aim: Production and evaluation of educational videos with the method storytelling for parents of children aged 0 to 5 years with atopic dermatitis. Methods: We produced the videos with the method of storytelling. The aim of storytelling is to help to recall important information more easily. A multi-professional team and parents of affected children tested the videos to ensure the understandability, the helpfulness and importance of the educational videos. Results: We created six different videos in all. The content of the educational videos includes information on the causes of AD, symptoms, skin care, treatment instruction and living with AD. We implemented the method of storytelling by two families with affected children who reported about their experience with the disease and the treatment. Three different specialists gave expert information. The evaluation showed that the information in the videos is simple, understandable and relevant. Conclusions: Evidence-based videos are an innovative, creative and modern method to support education. Storytelling is a user-friendly method to give simple and understandable information.

Young Autism Spectrum Disorder Children in Special and Mainstream Education Settings Have Similar Behavioral Characteristics.

In many countries, parents can place autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children in either mainstream or special education settings, which differ in their ability to provide structured early intervention programs. There are no clear guidelines for how to make initial placement decisions and ongoing debate about the benefits and drawbacks of each educational setting. Previous studies have mostly examined placement of school-age children and reported that those with poorer cognitive abilities and more severe ASD symptoms tend to be placed in special education. The placement of younger children has rarely been studied. Here, we utilized the database at the National Autism Research Center of Israel to examine whether ASD severity, cognitive abilities, and parent education influenced the placement of 242 children. We performed the analyses separately for 1-3-year-old children who were placed in daycare centers and 3-5-year-old children who were placed in pre-school kindergartens. Our analyses revealed surprisingly small differences across special and mainstream education settings, particularly in daycare centers. Cognitive scores and parent education were significantly higher in ASD children placed in mainstream education, but these differences were of moderate effect size and explained a relatively small percentage of the variability in placement choices (<15%). Indeed, we found considerable overlap in the characteristics of ASD children across educational settings, which suggests that initial placement decisions are performed with little regard to the children's abilities. Given the importance of optimal early intervention, further studies are warranted to determine whether children with specific abilities and needs benefit more from placement in either educational setting. LAY SUMMARY: Currently, there are no clear recommendations for placing young children with ASD in special versus mainstream education settings. We examined the influence of ASD severity, cognitive abilities, and parent education on the initial placement of 242 children. While we found significantly higher cognitive scores and parental education in children placed in mainstream education, there was a remarkable overlap in the characteristics of children across both settings, suggesting that initial placement is performed with limited regard to the children's abilities. Effect of using the WeChat platform on the perioperative health education of parents of children who underwent transthoracic device closure of VSDs

ObjectiveTo explore the effects of using the WeChat platform on the perioperative health education of parents of children who underwent transthoracic device closure of ventricular septal defects (VSDs).MethodsParticipants were divided into a WeChat group and a leaflet group. Responses to relevant questionnaires and clinical data were recorded and analyzed.ResultsBefore the operation, the scores of the Caretaker Knowledge Questionnaire in the WeChat group were significantly higher than those in the leaflet group. The scores of PSQ-18 in the WeChat group were significantly higher than those in the leaflet group. All the children in the WeChat group were followed up 1 month after discharge, while four children in the leaflet group were lost to follow-up. The rate of attrition in the leaflet group was significantly higher than that in the WeChat group. For the postoperative complications, there was no significant difference between the two groups.ConclusionPerioperative health education for parents of children who undergo transthoracic device closure of VSDs through the WeChat platform can effectively enhance parents’ knowledge of care, improve parent satisfaction, which is an effective method to ensure convenient operation and reduce loss to follow-up.

Stunting Was Associated with Reported Morbidity, Parental Education and Socioeconomic Status in 0.5-12-Year-Old Indonesian Children.

Stunting is highly prevalent in Indonesian children. The objective of this study was to identify the associations of stunting with morbidity, parental education and socioeconomic status (SES) in Indonesian children. The study population was part of the South East Asian Nutrition Surveys (SEANUTS). A total of 2236 Indonesian children aged 0.5 to 12 years, who had participated in the SEANUTS, were included in this study. Stunting was defined as height for age Z-score (HAZ) ≤ −2 using WHO criteria and severe stunting as HAZ ≤ −3. Information on morbidity, parental education and family SES were collected by structured questionnaires. ANOVA was used for evaluating differences across groups, with or without correction for confounders. The results showed that the overall prevalence of stunting was 31.4%. HAZ in stunted children was associated with disease incidence, including frequency, parental education and family income. There were no significant differences in HAZ values in stunted children with one or more bouts of infectious, digestive tract or respiratory tract illnesses compared to stunted children with no reported illness. The prevalence of stunting in Indonesian children was high and was strongly associated with child morbidity, parental education and SES.

Parental education and cancer mortality in children, adolescents, and young adults: A case-cohort study within the 2011 Italian census cohort.

Progress in the treatment of juvenile cancers has led to remarkable improvements in survival. However, not all families have the resources to cope with the burden that such diseases require. This study was aimed at evaluating the association between parental education and cancer mortality in children, adolescents, and young adults. This was a case-cohort study based on 1889 cancer cases and 108,387 noncases sampled from the 2011 Italian census cohort of 10,964,837 individuals younger than 20 years and followed for 6 years. Mortality rate ratios (MRRs) were estimated for individuals with parents with high and intermediate levels of education (International Standard Classification of Education [ISCED] levels 5-8 and 3-4, respectively) in comparison with individuals with less educated parents (ISCED levels < 3) through multiple Poisson regression models. Over the follow-up, 684, 858, and 347 cancer cases with parents with the lowest, intermediate, and highest levels of education, respectively, were registered. In comparison with the individuals with parents with the lowest level of education, the MRR from all neoplasms was 0.92 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.83-1.03) for those with parents with an intermediate level of education and 0.83 (95% CI, 0.72-0.95) for those with parents with the highest level of education. The MRRs from all neoplasms for individuals with parents with the highest level of education were 0.88 (95% CI, 0.69-1.11) among children, 0.87 (95% CI, 0.70-1.06) among adolescents, and 0.64 (95% CI, 0.50-0.83) among young adults. Children, adolescents, and young adults with highly educated parents have reduced mortality from cancer. This calls for further efforts to optimize treatment for children of less educated parents.
