Ectopic Upper Third Molar in Maxillary Sinus: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Ectopic tooth in maxillary sinus is a rare entity. There are many causes of this condition include developmental disturbance, pathological process, iatrogenic, and in some cases there is no identified cause. The ectopic tooth could be asymptomatic or presented with various symptoms depends on its location. A 19-years-old woman presented with left-sided facial pain and slight swelling at the site of the upper 3rd molar tooth for three months. She gave a history of mid-facial trauma with an operation in this area, 11years ago. Orthopantography and computerized tomography confirm the diagnosis of ectopic tooth within the maxillary sinus. The tooth was removed by Caldwell-Luc procedure. The patient was remained free of the presenting symptoms at three months follow-up. Reporting any case of an ectopic tooth deserves the ability to know the various aspects of this condition. We reported a further case of ectopic 3rd molar tooth in the left maxillary sinus, most probably, due to previous mid-facial trauma or the surgery in this area.

Endoscopic treatment of ectopic teeth in the maxillary sinus.

BackgroundEctopic teeth in maxillary sinus is rare and are usually removed via sub-labial trans-canine fossa approach (SLCFA). The aim of our study was to present our experience with extraction of ectopic teeth in the maxillary sinus via transnasal endoscopic approach (TEA). Material and Methods Rhinologists were asked to share their experience in the management of ectopic teeth in the maxillary sinus. Data were reviewed retrospectively. Results Eleven cases were reported in 10 patients from 2010 to 2019, six males and four females with a mean age of 33.5 +/-17 years (range 16 to 61). Seven patients complained of sinonasal symptoms, two were diagnosed incidentally during routine dental work-up, and one had oro-antral fistula. In eight patients, a cyst coexisted within the maxillary sinus. Teeth were located arbitrarily within the sinus. All cases were operated by TEA. One patient had self-limited periorbital emphysema, one had transient cheek numbness, and one had early post-operative bleeding that stopped after endoscopic cauterization. Long-term follow-up revealed good clinical outcomes. ConclusionsTransnasal endoscopic removal of ectopic teeth from the maxillary sinus is a feasible and rational approach when SLCFA is contraindicated. Cone Beam Computed Tomography Application in Finding Ectopic Tooth: A Systemic Analysis and a Case Report.

BACKGROUND:Nowadays, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) are commonly used in dentistry with an advantage about significantly lower dose comparing with CT-Scanner. Utilizing CBCT images which are indicated in dentistry like orthodontics can help diagnose diseases beyond dentistry field. One rare phenomenon can be seen in maxillary sinus, which is often overlooked by dentists, is ectopic teeth.CASE REPORT:This article describes one orthodontic case found accidentally an ectopic tooth in maxillary sinus by inspecting CBCT images.CONCLUSION:Dentists and oral radiologists should carefully inspect non-dental structures, like maxillary sinus, even its distance from the dentoalveolar region, especially in asymptomatic patients.

Ameloblastic Transformation in Dentigerous Cyst of Ectopic Tooth in Maxillary Antrum – A Rare Entity

Dentigerous cysts are commonest type of developmental, epithelial-lined, odontogenic cysts arising in the jaw from the crowns of impacted, unerupted or embedded tooth, most often third molar. But dentigerous cysts arising from ectopic tooth in maxillary sinus is quite rare. Ameloblastoma changes in the dentigerous cysts are rare and to the best of our knowledge have not been reported to be arising from ectopic tooth in maxillary antrum. In this article, we present the radiological diagnosis, clinical features and management of this rare case of ameloblastic transformation in dentigerous cyst arising from ectopic tooth in maxillary antrum.

Purpose: Ectopic tooth in the maxillary sinus is rare. When seen as an odontogenic developmental anomaly; often is associated with odontogenic cysts, trauma or iatrogenic etiology. The aim of this case report to present enucleation of dentigerous cyst associated with ectopic wisdom tooth from maxillary sinus with Caldwell Luc surgery. Material and Method: At the result of the clinical and radiological findings, ectopic wisdom tooth along with dentigerous cyst was found in the right maxillary sinus in a 25 year old male patient. Ectopic tooth in maxillary sinus was removed and dentigerous cyst was enucleated with Caldwell-Luc surgery. Results: perioperative or postoperative complications were not seen. Conclusion: Caldwell Luc surgery is safe, minimally complicated, simple, quick and successful method for enucleation of dentigerous cyst associated with ectopic tooth in the maxillary sinus

OBJECTIVE: We report a rare case of ectopic unerupted tooth in maxillary sinus. CASE REPORT: A 23 year old female presented with oroantral fistula distal to right upper second molar. On radiography, there was an ectopic unerupted tooth in maxillary sinus, removed via sublabial approach with sinuscope. CONCLUSION: This is a rare case of unerupted ectopic tooth in maxillary sinus that presented with oroantral fistula. Opacity in maxillary sinus may be due to unerupted ectopic tooth. One of the sites for an ectopic tooth in a no dental location is the maxillary sinus. Tooth in the maxillary sinus is rare. Due to its rarity, the literature that deals with this is sparse. Ectopic eruption may be associated with one of three distinct processes, Developmental disturbances, pathological processes and iatrogenic activity. The etiology of ectopic teeth is not always known. Impaction of a tooth in the maxillary sinus can be asymptomatic. Such teeth are often discovered serendipitously on radiographs of the skull or teeth. In some cases, patients experience significant symptoms like sinonasal symptoms, oroantral fistula etc. Tooth eruption in the maxillary sinus may cause sinusitis. The treatment of an ectopic maxillary tooth is surgical removal. We present a case of an ectopic third molar which presented in the maxillary sinus presented as oro antral fistula and was removed via endoscopic surgery. CASE REPORT: A 23 years old healthy female was presented for evaluation of pus discharging oro antral fistula distal to right upper second molar. The intra oral examination revealed the right upper third molar was absent. Purulent material from the oro antral fistula was observed. The extra oral examination revealed no signs or symptoms. The patient complained of a headache on the right side of his face for approximately 3 - 4 years. Endoscopic Removal of an Ectopic Tooth in Maxillary Sinus

Ectopic teeth erupted in the maxillary sinus are rarely reported. Although the causes of eruption of a tooth into the maxillary sinus are unclear, some clinical conditions are suspected to be responsible, such as developmental disturbances (cleft palate), displacement of teeth by trauma, interventions or cyst, infection, genetic factors, crowding, and dense bone. Most cases of ectopic teeth in the maxillary sinus are asymptomatic and are occasionally diagnosed thanks to routine radiographic investigations.The aim of this article is to present and discuss the surgical management of an ectopic third molar in the roof of the maxillary sinus.

Ectopic tooth in maxillary sinus: Case series

Ectopic eruption of a tooth within the dentate region of the jaws is often noticed in clinical practice and is well documented in the literature. But the ectopic eruption into the non dentate region is rare and scantly documented. The maxillary sinus is one such a non dentate region, apart from nasal septum, mandibular condyle, coronoid process and the palate, to accommodate such ectopic eruptions of teeth. Due to its rarity and lack of consensus over its management, the incidence deserves to be added to the literature and discussed. Early surgical intervention for removal of ectopic tooth along with enucleation of the associated cyst, if any, is the treatment of choice.
