The anti-suit injunctions in patent litigation in China: what role for judicial self-restraint?

Abstract Starting from 2020, the Chinese courts have actively participated in the jurisdictional battles for the standard essential patent (SEP) disputes, a pivotal development marked by the Supreme People’s Court’s inaugural SEP-related anti-suit injunction (ASI) in Huawei v Conversant. Subsequently, lower courts in China have emulated this approach by issuing ASIs targeting SEPs in the domain of information and communication technology. The present study highlights the features of the Chinese ‘act preservation measures’ by comparing them with the typical ASIs originally developed in the common law jurisdictions. This comparison reveals significant divergence in the factors considered by Chinese courts issuing ASIs, particularly in the context of cross-border patent litigation. The study aims at elucidating potential defenses that the respondents in SEP litigation may employ to contest the issuance of ASIs in Chinese judicial proceedings, with particular attention accorded to the principles of comity and public interest. The article concludes that the invocation of international comity and public interest in SEP litigation will encounter a formalistic assessment by the Chinese judiciary due to potential conflicts with statutory provisions and the lack of a more context-specific analysis. As a result, in the absence of supra-national mechanisms that would address the problem of parallel litigation, there appears to be little room for judicial self-restraint.

Analysing IoT Digital Education: Fostering Students’ Understanding and Digital Literacy

This study aims to develop effective strategies for enhancing the digital skills of students specialising in information technology (IT). The study’s relevance is justified by the necessity to adjust educational methods to the dynamic development of the Internet of Things (IoT) and digital technologies in general. The object of the study is students at Astana IT University who are studying IT. The experimental group (EG) trains using IoT-integrated digital educational materials (DEMs), while the control group (CG) receives traditional training. Since existing research often omits the synergy between IoT and educational methods, creating a gap in understanding the effectiveness of integrated educational resources, this study applies research methodology, including literature analysis, experimentation, and statistical data analysis. The research results are verified using statistical methods such as the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and F-test. Analysing the mean scores in the experimental and CGs helps measure students’ progress in developing digital skills. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of IoT-integrated DEMs in enhancing students’ digital skills and to provide a comprehensive understanding of the influence of these educational approaches on IoT learning. The findings will significantly improve educational programs and methodologies in the IT domain in line with current technological advancements.

Distributed Ledger Standards for 6G Mobile Networks

Distributed ledger technology, with its multitude of advantages including immutability, transparency, decentralization, and security, has excellent potential to promote and even revolutionize future 6G mobile networks. Large-scale distributed ledger deployment within or for mobile networks relies on distributed ledger-focused standards to facilitate and ensure interoperability. The European Telecommunications Standards (ETSI) Industry Specification Group (ISG) on Permissioned Distributed Ledger (PDL) develops PDL-related standards, targeting various application verticals, especially within the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) domain. This article aims to give an overview of ETSI ISG PDL and describes selected PDL standards, which have synergies with future 6G mobile networks.

Optimizing Fund Performance: A Communication Systems Approach to Data Mining in Large- Cap Equity Mutual Funds

Mutual funds represent a secure and technologically driven conduit for Indian investors to engage with the dynamic Indian financial markets. These professionally managed funds strategically allocate investments across a spectrum of securities, including equities, bonds, government securities, and gold, leveraging cutting-edge information technology infrastructure for seamless operation and optimization. Within this landscape, performance emerges as a pivotal metric, driving the flow of savings into these digitally enabled funds, indicative of investors' confidence and expectations in the realm of data-driven decision-making. The core objective of this paper is to construct a robust mutual fund performance evaluation model utilizing the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), a sophisticated software platform renowned for its advanced analytics and predictive modeling capabilities in the information technology domain. The work focused specifically on equity mutual funds, this study meticulously examines top-rated funds within the large-cap category, drawing insights from a comprehensive validation period spanning the last fifteen years from April 2007 to March 2021. Through the systematic evaluation of various performance metrics within the context of information technology-driven analysis, this model aims to deliver actionable insights and strategic foresight, benefiting researchers, society, and financial analysts alike, while catalyzing innovation and driving positive impacts in the intersection of technology and finance.

Characterization of adults concerning the use of a hypothetical mHealth application addressing stress-overeating: an online survey

BackgroundAbout 40% of people respond to stress by consuming more unhealthy foods. This behavior is associated with increased energy intake and the risk of obesity. As mobile health (mHealth) applications (apps) have been shown to be an easy-to-use intervention tool, the characterization of potential app users is necessary to develop target group-specific apps and to increase adherence rates.MethodsThis cross-sectional online survey was conducted in the spring of 2021 in Germany. Sociodemographic data and data on personality (Big Five Inventory, BFI-10), stress-eating (Salzburg Stress Eating Scale, SSES), and technology behavior (Personal Innovativeness in the Domain of Information Technology, PIIT; Technology Acceptance Model 3, TAM 3) were collected.ResultsThe analysis included 1228 participants (80.6% female, mean age: 31.4 ± 12.8 years, mean body mass index (BMI): 23.4 ± 4.3 kg/m2). Based on the TAM score, 33.3% (409/1228) of the participants had a high intention to use a hypothetical mHealth app to avoid stress-overeating. These persons are characterized by a higher BMI (24.02 ± 4.47 kg/m2, p < 0.001), by being stress-overeaters (217/409, 53.1%), by the personality trait “neuroticism” (p < 0.001), by having specific eating reasons (all p < 0.01), and by showing a higher willingness to adopt new technologies (p < 0.001).ConclusionThis study suggests that individuals who are prone to stress-overeating are highly interested in adopting an mHealth app as support. Participants with a high intention to use an mHealth app seem to have a general affinity towards new technology (PIIT) and appear to be more insecure with conflicting motives regarding their diet.Trial registrationThis survey was registered in the German Clinical Trials Register (Registration number: DRKS00023984).

Unlocking Trade Potential: A Stochastic Frontier Gravity Model Analysis of India-Africa Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Goods Trade

This study examines the relatively unexplored domain of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) trade between India and the African Union (AU), applying the Stochastic Frontier Gravity Model (SFGM) to measure the untapped potential and discern factors that impede trade. It points out India’s burgeoning role in global ICT trade, with the AU being an increasingly valuable market due to its digital growth and young population. The research identifies India’s significant comparative advantage in exporting telecommunication equipment, with a Revealed Comparative Advantage of 3.54, strategically enhancing its position in the global marketplace. The research notes the high trade complementarity index of 0.984 in 2021, indicating a strong synergy between India’s export capabilities and the AU’s demand, suggesting a beneficial trade relationship. It acknowledges the shift in Africa’s ICT import partners, highlighting China’s rising influence and the need for India to solidify its market share in Africa strategically. The SFGM’s application to evaluate trade efficiency, considering factors such as GDP, exchange rate, distance, tariff rate, and language, provides insightful conclusions. Positive impacts of GDP, exchange rate, and shared language on bilateral ICT trade are found to be significant. The findings emphasise the importance of strengthening trade ties for economic development and digital transformation in Africa.

Exploring the Cloud Storage Service Adoption Through the Dual Perspectives: Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and the Extended Unified Theory of Technology Acceptance Model (UTAUT2)

Cloud computing is spreading rapidly, but little research has been conducted to understand the effects of the protective perspective on acceptance by individuals. The goal of this study was to explore the impact of protective behavior on individuals’ adoption of cloud computing. Specifically, the study will concentrate on personal cloud storage service (CSS), widely recognized as a protective technology. Our theoretical framework endeavored to combine protection motivation theory with the extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and focused on the effect of threat in the context of CSS. This study tested two proposed models (Model A, Model B) by structural equation modeling using data from 392 individuals. Data were collected for people in voluntary CSS-usage settings through an online survey. Model A and model B explained 61.0% and 60.4% of the variance in the behavioral intention to accept CSS, respectively. Results showed that CSS adoption is a protective measure against data loss and identified that threat influence CSS adoption. Threat elements directly do not influence behavioral intention to adopt CSS. Threat elements mostly acted as antecedents of independent variables; perceived severity and perceived vulnerability directly influenced technology attributes (performance expectancy, effort expectancy), and showed slightly different results in contextual attributes (facilitating conditions, social influence) and consumer attributes (hedonic motivation, habits). Our study offers a unique perspective for researchers and professionals in understanding the impact of threat factors on information technology domains where protective technologies are operated. Thus, we recommend that academics and business practitioners in the realm of cloud computing should consider user’s protective motivation view of adopting CSS when designing, developing, delivering and spreading it.

The research revealed that DevOps systems can pose significant challenges without the integration of artificial intelligence. AI and DevOps synergize to enhance efficiency in managing diverse tasks within the information technology domain. The exponential growth in data volume presents difficulties for DevOps teams in swiftly assimilating and addressing consumer issues. The automation trend has positioned DevOps as a vital component of information technology, facilitating efficient software delivery and faster market entry, resulting in more stable products. Furthermore, AIpowered technologies hold great potential for addressing critical issues such as national security. The research recommends organizations adopt AI-driven deployments within their DevOps environments. Given the limitations of computer processing capacity, artificial intelligence serves as a solution for storing, processing, and analyzing vast datasets. To grasp AI's role in DevOps, it's essential to understand their interdependency and its impact on AI. While companies recognize the potential of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, the lack of proper knowledge impedes their full utilization. In the realm of software development, DevOps faces inherent challenges that AI systems can effectively address, playing a pivotal role in advancing digital transformation.

Prevalent elements of consumer wellbeing in wearable technology use: An interdisciplinary systematic review and future research agenda

AbstractThe impact of wearable technology (wearables) on user wellbeing requires closer examination given the growth in adoption across multiple domains including workplaces, leisure, and healthcare. This paper consolidates research on consumer wellbeing and wearables through an interdisciplinary systematic review of 23 empirical journal articles from psychology, information technology and business domains. Our analysis highlights the principal conceptualizations of wellbeing and offers insights into theories, methods, and key variables in these studies. The findings reveal an overemphasis on adoption and usage of wearables in the literature; a narrow definition of wellbeing; and a limited range of theoretical and methodological perspectives. We propose that future research should be holistic, drawing on mainstream wellbeing theories and examining micro, meso, and macro level conceptualizations of wellbeing. Employing diverse methodologies such as longitudinal, time sampling, cross‐sectional, qualitative, and quantitative approaches, and randomized control trials. We develop a framework outlining avenues for future research to extend current understanding in this research domain.

The Degree to which Career Education ‎Teachers are Practicing the 21st Century ‎Skills as Perceived by the Educational ‎Supervisors and School Principals in Jordan ‎

This study investigates the degree to which career education ‎teachers are practicing the 21st Century Skills as perceived by ‎the educational supervisors and school principals in Jordan. The ‎study sample consisted of (33) supervisors and (55) principals. ‎A self-completed questionnaire was employed, and consisted of ‎‎(55) items distributed over five domains, where its reliability ‎and validity were verified. The results of the study revealed the ‎following: 1. The overall Mean score for the degree of teachers’ ‎practices reached (3.45) with standared deviation of (0.812), ‎which indicates a moderate degree of practices. 2. The Means ‎for the degree of the teachers’ practices, were ranked, according ‎to the main domains, respectively, from the highest to the ‎lowest effectiveness, as follow: collaboration and interaction, ‎life and career skills, learning and instructionnal innovation, ‎critical thinking and problem solving, and finally information ‎and communications technology skills, with Mean scores of ‎‎(3.69, 3.68, 3.47, 3.40, and 3.06). 3. Designing Blended Learning Program for Mathematical Economics Using Integrative Learning Design Framework Approach

The development of a blended learning approach is essential in order to effectively address the needs of both online and face-to-face learning environments. The objective of this work is to create a prototype for integrated learning in the field of mathematical economics. The implementation of a blended learning strategy in the construction of a learning program is facilitated by the utilization of the Integrative Learning Design Framework (ILDF) model. This model encompasses three distinct stages, namely exploration, enactment and evaluation. This study comprises a team of three individuals who possess expertise in the domains of instructional materials, educational media, and information technology. In order to assess the feasibility of the proposed learning design, a questionnaire was administered to a sample of 40 students, who were requested to complete it. The questionnaire encompasses an assessment of the preparedness of facilities and infrastructure, the development of teaching materials and media prototypes, and the evaluation of student replies. The findings indicated that the proportion of student answer scores attained a value of 83.75%, falling inside the practical category. Therefore, the created learning design can serve as an alternate approach for teaching economics mathematics, promoting increased student autonomy in the learning process. Thus, it provides students the chance to develop self-reliance in understanding and addressing economic issues using a mathematical problem-solving approach that integrates mathematical concept. Furthermore, it is crucial to explore alternative approaches to blended learning across different academic fields and strive to foster not only problem-solving skills but also the ability to recognize and make connections with students' metacognitive capabilities. Robotic process automation and artificial intelligence capabilities driving digital strategy: a resource-based view

PurposeResearch of currently limited literature sees Robotic Process Automation (RPA) as an important tool at the tactical level. However, the literature has not considered its potential contribution to creating competitive advantages. This paper aims to link RPA and Resource-based view (RBV) literature, proposing a conceptual framework boosting RPA research as part of an organizational AI strategy.Design/methodology/approach This study applied a Systematic Literature Review (SRL), combining bibliometrics and content analysis. This study also built a new framework based on the updated RBV model that was transformed based on the RPA literature review results.Findings By bridging the two bodies of literature on RBV and RPA, this study manages to show the strategic side of the technology. Therefore, this study brought to light the most updated fundamental concepts of complementarity and scale-free fungible resources from RBV theory and AI technologies, applied to the domains of RPA, information systems and information technology (IS/IT) through the development of a new theoretical lens. Also, this study was able to elaborate on a new conceptual framework for AI strategy formulation to help organizations on their journey to AI utilization.Originality/value The authors did not find any research that has shown the strategic side of RPA, nor any that has used a theoretical lens based on the RBV theory to show this side. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study seems to be the first to make the case for RPA's strategic potential.

Framework for Project Sustainability for Power Installations Using Business Intelligence Approach: A Systematic Literature Review

The growing concerns about environmental sustainability and energy conservation have led to increased interest in optimizing electricity consumption and billing processes in various projects. This research article presents a comprehensive study on the development and application of Business Intelligence (BI) frameworks for enhancing project sustainability through data-driven energy management. Through the integration of BI tools and techniques, this research investigates the analysis of electricity consumption patterns, billing accuracy, and cost-effectiveness in diverse project contexts. The article emphasizes the significance of data preprocessing, statistical analysis, and predictive modelling in uncovering valuable insights to support informed decision-making. Additionally, the review examines the concept of project sustaibility, emphasizing its significance in achieving desired outcomes, meeting stakeholder expectations, and ensuring the project’s viability in an ever-changing environment. Traditional project management approaches often fail to adequately address sustainability concerns, leading to project failures or limited long-term impact. Hence, the review highlights the growing importance of leveraging BI-driven frameworks to enhance project sustainability in various sectors, including in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) domain. The Systematic literature review (SLR) method was used involving the scooping of 230 articles from over 8 global academic databases. With the use of exclusion criteria, only 61 articles were used in the study. The analysis of the articles shows that 57% were journal articles, 39% were conference proceedings, 2% were thesis/dissertations and 2% were generic. Within the scope of this literature review, key terms and keywords were identified to provide insights into the development of a novel BI-driven framework for project sustainability. Consequently, future research directions are identified to further explore the integration of renewable energy sources, AI and machine learning applications, and behaviour-based energy management strategies within BI frameworks for sustainable project outcomes. This review lays the foundation for future research endeavours in developing innovative BI-driven frameworks that foster sustainable practices and contribute to a greener and more resilient future across diverse industries and projects.

An Improved Intuitionistic Fuzzy Decision-Theoretic Rough Set Model and Its Application

The Decision-Theoretic Rough Set model stands as a compelling advancement in the realm of rough sets, offering a broader scope of applicability. This approach, deeply rooted in Bayesian theory, contributes significantly to delineating regions of minimal risk. Within the Decision-Theoretic Rough Set paradigm, the universal set undergoes a tripartite division, where distinct regions emerge and losses are intelligently distributed through the utilization of membership functions. This research endeavors to present an enhanced and more encompassing iteration of the Decision-Theoretic Rough Set framework. Our work culminates in the creation of the Generalized Intuitionistic Decision-Theoretic Rough Set (GI-DTRS), a fusion that melds the principles of Decision-Theoretic Rough Sets and intuitionistic fuzzy sets. Notably, this synthesis bridges the gaps that exist within the conventional approach. The innovation lies in the incorporation of an error function tailored to the hesitancy grade inherent in intuitionistic fuzzy sets. This integration harmonizes seamlessly with the contours of the membership function. Furthermore, our methodology deviates from established norms by constructing similarity classes based on similarity measures, as opposed to relying on equivalence classes. This shift holds particular relevance in the context of aggregating information systems, effectively circumventing the challenges associated with the process. To demonstrate the practical efficacy of our proposed approach, we delve into a concrete experiment within the information technology domain. Through this empirical exploration, the real-world utility of our approach becomes vividly apparent. Additionally, a comprehensive comparative analysis is undertaken, juxtaposing our approach against existing techniques for aggregation and decision modeling. The culmination of our efforts is a well-rounded article, punctuated by the insights, recommendations, and future directions delineated by the authors.

The high of higher education: interactivity its influence and effectiveness on virtual communities

PurposeAmidst the COVID-19 pandemic, education has shifted to online teaching and learning. Interactivity is a crucial tool used to make online education effective. This study empirically examines the role of interactivity in higher education and its influence on students' behavioral outcomes, specifically focusing on soft skills and personality upgradation.Design/methodology/approachA quasi-experimental research design was carried out for post-graduate students undergoing a business communication course from four major institutions. For analysis, t-test, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) have been employed. Experimental research has established the causal relationship between interactivity, personality and soft skill upgradation (SSU).FindingsIt was found that the theoretical structural model has a rational model-fit validity. Resultantly, practitioners may use prior knowledge of virtual community (VC) members to enhance web interactivity, thereby increasing social identity and social bonds in a group for more meaningful and effective delivery of online courses.Research limitations/implicationsThe major limitations lie in its context-dependent nature, predominantly influenced by the pandemic-induced mandatory online learning. The study's cross-sectional design also inhibits its ability to assess goal-directed behaviors over time, necessitating further longitudinal research.Originality/valueThe study is one of the pioneering pieces of research that examines the role of pre-defined grouping and enhanced web interactivity in VCs in the context of online learning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Integrating theories of web interactivity, social bond theory (SBT) and social identity theory (SIT) provides a novel understanding of cognitive and social influences that drive meaningful online discussions and their impacts on knowledge enhancement and personality development. Its findings have implications for the design of effective online learning environments and e-learning pedagogy, contributing to the growing domain of information and communication technology (ICT)-enabled education.

Adolescent Privacy and the Electronic Health Record - Electronic Health Record Adolescent Confidentiality in a Safety Net Setting.

The 21st Century Cures Act provides improved access to one's medical record but presents new challenges to adolescent confidentiality in the domain of healthcare information technology. Adolescent patients, who have the right to confidential care in certain areas as dictated by state law, face the prospect of parents and guardians erroneously accessing their confidential health information. Our institution, the largest safety net hospital in our region, sought to quantify the proportion of adolescent patient portal accounts likely being accessed by guardians and to implement corrective measures for the patient portal sign-up process in our electronic health record (EHR) system. We manually reviewed our institution's adolescent patient portal accounts based on email addresses associated with adolescents' accounts. We implemented EHR changes to address the potential for breach of confidentiality as a result of adolescent patient portal account creation by parents/guardians. One intervention was creating a "guardrail rule" to prevent guardians from creating adolescent patient portal accounts with their own email addresses. After email reminders to adolescent patients to update their accounts, we deactivated accounts with concern for erroneous guardian access. Sixty percent of our institution's adolescent patient portal accounts had possible direct access by guardians. Following requests to update account access, 425 (18.8%) of accounts had email addresses updated by adolescent patients and 1830 (81.2%) accounts were deactivated. More nuanced EHR functionality for adolescent patients and their guardians can help healthcare systems provide confidential, patient-centered care for adolescents, while allowing guardians to access appropriate health information to facilitate care. There is an opportunity for a national consensus on how adolescents and their guardians can access health information by patient portal.

User Experience Design for Information Technology Career Preparation Platform Using the Design Thinking Method

Digital talent is crucial in the thriving Information Technology (IT) industry. Hence, numerous countries seek digital skills to stay competitive in the current era. In Indonesia, the challenge lies not in quantity but in the readiness of digital talents to enter the professional world. To address this issue, we observed the IT career readiness of fresh graduates and senior students from the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya. The observation revealed that 82.9% of 70 respondents stated doubts about their career preparations in the IT domain. These doubts stemmed from perceived inadequacy in technical skills, lack of readiness in developing a curriculum vitae and facing job interviews. Given the need for career preparation in the IT domain, we address the development of a platform to assist aspiring IT talents. This study proposes a solution as an IT career preparation application designed using the Design Thinking method The proposed design was tested using the Usability Evaluation, yielding an effectiveness rate of 100% and an efficiency value of 0.08 goals/sec. Furthermore, a satisfaction test was conducted using the SUS questionnaire, resulting in a score of 94.75 (excellent).

In-Network Caching for ICN-Based IoT (ICN-IoT): A Comprehensive Survey

The Internet of Things (IoT) has already emerged as one of the most popular directions in today’s information and communication technology (ICT) domain. With its advancement over different application areas, such as smart home, smart healthcare, industry 4.0, etc., a huge amount of data has been generated by billions of IoT devices, which aggravates the shortcomings of IP-based networks, such as limited expressiveness of IP addressing, inefficient support for mobility and in-network caching. Building IoT on top of information-centric networking (ICN) is believed to be a promising solution to tackle the above challenge, especially the in-network caching of ICN can significantly benefit IoT in terms of reducing data and saving IoT devices’ energy. However, caching IoT data is more challenging than caching traditional Internet content, e.g., video, because IoT data are usually valid within a certain period of time, and IoT devices are typically constrained with battery. Hence, in this survey, we first review the current implementation proposals of ICN-IoT. Next, we present the conventional caching decision policies and replacement policies which could be adopted to mitigate the aforementioned challenges, e.g., reducing IoT traffic, saving energy, reducing data retrieval latency. Further, since leveraging machine learning (ML) techniques have the potential to further improve the caching efficiency by dealing with uncertainties, e.g., predicting unknown information, adaptively interacting with the environment, we also demonstrate the recently proposed ML-based caching schemes for ICN-IoT. In addition, we outline the open research issues and point out the future opportunities of caching in ICN-IoT.

Drivers for Internet of Things (IoT) adoption in supply chains: Implications for sustainability in the post-pandemic era

As the post-COVID-19 pandemic era begins, the supply chain operating environment has transformed and faced disruptions. The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as one of the expedient technologies in the information technology domain, which solves the issues of traditional supply chain management (SCM) by providing resiliency, flexibility, and traceability. Despite the perceived advantages of IoT, it remains unknown what drivers are essential to adopt IoT in SCM. To achieve this aim, an integrated approach combining rough set theory and decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL), that is rough strength relation analysis (RSRA) method, has been used to identify and investigate drivers of IoT adoption in SCM where drivers were analyzed according to their comparative importance based on expert opinions from industrial and academic backgrounds. A total of 14 drivers have been identified from the extensive literature review on previous IoT and SCM associated works, which were further analyzed to determine the most important drivers. The results show that “Efficient logistics systems”, “Business knowledge acumen”, and “Information safety assurance” are among the three most predominant driving factors. The findings may help practitioners implement IoT in supply chains to deal with disruptions, risks and vulnerabilities in the post-pandemic era.

A SCAN-TO-BIM WORKFLOW PROPOSAL FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE. AUTOMATIC POINT CLOUD SEGMENTATION AND PARAMETRIC-ADAPTIVE MODELLING OF VAULTED SYSTEMS

Abstract. Cultural Heritage has been significantly impacted by advancements in the Information and Communications Technology domains, which have inspired a strong multidisciplinary interest and enabled the development of innovative strategies for the preservation, management, and enhancement of the heritage itself. Notably, the digitisation process, which entails the acquisition of 3D data obtained through cutting-edge LiDAR and photogrammetric scanning techniques, is set up as an advantageous tool for producing an accurate representation of the historical buildings. In addition, point clouds and reliable HBIM models have caught the minds of the architectural community, and are now receiving huge backing from Artificial Intelligence. Such support is provided by procedures that link semantic features to structural and decorative elements. In this scenario, the following research is presented: the aim is to test an automated iterative process within a scan-to-BIM methodology, starting from automatic point cloud segmentation operations with open-source, model-fitting algorithms. This method will prove to be a solid support for the final phase of the 3D parametric/adaptive reconstruction that’s also compatible with BIM Authoring. The study focuses on various masonry vaulted systems. These types of structures are first examined using ideal models, which were perfectly discretised and set up by the user, and then employed as a starting point for validating the parameters of the RANSAC algorithm on point clouds acquired by laser scanners. These latter ones nevertheless have irregular geometries, making comprehension, analysis, and management far more challenging.
