This work presents theoretical and experimental studies on a binocular Scheimpflug light-field based PIV. To investigate the effects of key parameters such as magnification, camera separation angle and tilt angle, a simulation study and quantitative comparison between conventional and binocular Scheimpflug light-field PIV have been performed. To validate the performance of binocular Scheimpflug light-field PIV, a series of vortex ring experiments have been carried out with different parameters. A comparison of the reconstructed volume and quality of the resolved vortex ring structures shows the advantages of binocular Scheimpflug light-field PIV. With Scheimpflug imaging, the focal plane of two light-field cameras can be fully overlapped which results in an extended reconstructed particle volume and less distortion in the resolved flow field than conventional binocular light-field PIV.
