NMR STUDIES ON THE INTERACTIONS OF GLYMES WITH DIMETHYLTIN DICHLORIDE IN BENZENE

Abstract The interactions between glymes (Gly) and dimethyltin dichloride (DMTC) have been studied by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The coexistence of the 1:2 Gly/DMTC complexes with 1:1 complexes was found for the higher members of Gly. Benzene-induced shifts of proton signals of both DMTC and Gly suggest that the complexes possess the methyl groups attached to tin essentially in a trans arrangement.

Austauschreaktionen an organostannylphosphinen: Identifizierung einer stabilen zwischenstufe

Monomeric 1 : 1 adducts of di-t-butyl(chlorodimethylstannyl)phosphine and dimethyltin dichloride are formed in solution by mixing equimolar amounts of the two components or by mixing dimethyltin dichloride and di-t-butyl(trimethylsilyl)phosphine in a 2 : 1 molar ratio. NMR, IR, Raman and 119 mSn Mössbauer data are in agreement with a symmetrical structure with two equivalent (CH 3) 2SnCl groups bridged by di-t-butylphosphine and chloro groups. The bonding and stability of the adduct are discussed.

A novel isomerization of syn-7-bromo- anti-7-lithionorcarane to the anti-7-bromo- syn-7-lithio isomer

A number of α-bromocyclopropyllithium reagents have been prepared at low temperature (−90° to −100°) in THF or THF/Et 2O medium by reaction of n-butyllithium with the respective gem-dibromocyclopropane. Reactions of these new lithium reagents with concentrated HCl, trimethylchlorosilane, dimethyldichlorosilane, trimethyltin chloride, dimethyltin dichloride, dimethyldichlorogermane, trimethyllead bromide, mercuric chloride and some other organometallic halides are described. A novel isomerization of syn-7-bromo- anti-7-lithionorcarane to anti-7-bromo- syn-7-lithionorcarane, induced by the presence of a slight excess of 7,7-dibromonorcarane, is described.

The Synthesis of Dimethyl(iodomethyl)tin Iodide and 1, 1, 3, 3, 5, 5-Hexamethyl-1, 3, 5-tristannacyclohexane

Abstract The synthesis of dimethyl(iodomethyl)tin iodide by treatment of dimethyltin dichloride with iodomethylzinc iodide is described. This represents an improvement over the diazomethane route.1 Treatment of the iodide with magnesium metal yields 1, 1, 3, 3, 5, 5-hexamethyl-1, 3, - 5-tristannacyclohexane.

Studies in group iv organometallic chemistry XXXIII. Heterocyclic tin compounds. The synthesis of 10,10-dimethylphenoxastannin, 10,10-diethylphenoxastannin and 10,10-dimethylphenothiastannin. The characterization of a new twelve-membered organotin heterocycle, C 28H 28O 2Sn 2

10,10-Dimethyl- and 10,10-diethylphenoxastannin have been prepared for the first time by the reaction of oxy-2,2′-bis (phenyllithium) with dimethyl- and diethyltin dichloride, respectively. The compound thought by Kupchik et al. to be dimeric 10,10-dimethylphenoxastannin has been found to be a twelve-membered organotin heterocycle, C28H28O2Sn2. PMR spectra in various solvents show this compound to be present in solution as an equilibrium mixture of conformational isomers. The PMR results for the tin-methyl protons emphasize the importance of conformational effects on both chemical shifts and coupling constants. Two magnetically non-equivalent methyl groups bound to one tin atom exhibit markedly different coupling constants (ΔJ 14.3 Hz). Reaction of 10,10-dimethylphenoxastannin with SnCl4 affords the trimetallic species C24H16O2Cl8Sn3. 10,10-Dimethylphenothiastannin has been obtained in good yield by the reaction of thio-2,2′-bis(phenyllithium) with dimethyltin dichloride. Oxidation of this compound with an excess of m-chloroperbenzoic acid resulted in the formation of 10,10-dimethylphenothiastannin 5,5-dioxide.

Tetracarbonyl diketone anions of the group VI transition metals

A number of new tetracarbonyl diketonate anions of the Group VI transition metals have been synthesized by two separate routes. The most versatile preparation is by the reaction of a thallium(I) salt of a β-diketone with the metal pentacarbonyl halide anions. The infrared spectra of these anions have been studied in some detail and a number of interesting trends and observed when the Cotton-Kraihanzel force constants are compared. The [Mo[CO) 4(Diket)] − anions will undergo oxidative elimination reactions with allyl chlorides and dimethyltin dichloride and simple substitution reactions with some Lewis bases.

PMR and thermodynamic studies of dimethyltin dichloride/picolinaldimine adducts

Stable dimethyltin dichloride adducts with several picolinaldimines (C 5H 4NCHNR, RCH 3, C 6H 4OCH 3- p, C 6CH 4CH 3- p, C 6H 4CH 3- p, C 6H 4Cl- p) have been isolated and the configurations in solution have been discussed on the basis of PMR spectra of the complexes. Equilibrium constants of the adducts in acetonitrile have been determined from the 119SnCH 3 coupling constants of dimethyltin dichloride. Heats of complex formation in acetonitrile have also been measured by calorimetry, and thermodynamic parameters in the complex formation have been obtained.

The polymeric structure of the adduct of dimethyltin dichloride with bis(salicylaldehyde) ethylenediimine.

Crystal structure analysis has shown the title compound to have a polymeric structure with the Schiff base acting as oxygen-bridged bidentate ligand.

Reactions of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine nitroxide radical with Tin(IV) halides

2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine nitroxide radical (TMPNO.) has been found to react with tin tetrahalides according to the redox process and to give bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxoammonium)tin hexahalides [TMPN +O] 2SnX 6 2− (X = Cl, Br). These ionic complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, IR, NMR, and UV spectra. It has been observed that dimethyltin dichloride and phenyltin trichloride react easily with [TMPN +O]Cl − giving [TMPN +O][(CH 3) 2SnCl 3] and [TMPN +O] 2[C 6H 5SnCl 5] 2−, respectively. The behavior of [TMPN +O][(CH 3)SnCl 3] − in solution has been investigated spectroscopically.

Adducts of dimethyltin dichloride with N,N-dimethylpicolinamide, -nicotinamide, -isonicotinamide and their thio-derivatives

Adducts of dimethyltin dichloride with N,N-dimethylpicolinamide, -nicotinamide, -isonicotinamide and their thio-derivatives and some other thiocarbonyl donor adducts have been isolated. These adducts have been investigated in both the solid state and solution, by i.r. and PMR spectroscopies. It appears that the thiocarbonyl group is a weaker donor than the carbonyl group. The stereochemistry of these compounds is also discussed.

Molecular Structure of Dimethyltin Dichloride as Studied by Gas-electron Diffraction

Abstract The molecular structure of dimethyltin dichloride was determined by the sector-microphotometer method of electron diffraction to be as follows: rg(Sn–Cl)=2.327±0.003 Å, rg(Sn–C)=2.108±0.007 Å, and rg(C–H)=1.113±0.020 Å, and all the valency angles were near 109.5°. In comparison with the Sn–Cl distances in the series of Sn(CH3)4−nCln, as determined previously by the same method, a regular bond contraction in going from Sn(CH3)3Cl to SnCl4, as pointed out previously by Skinner and Sutton, was ascertained.

Visible and PMR spectroscopies of 4-N,N-dimethylammonitrosobenzene and its methyl derivatives

The visible absorption spectra of 4-N,N-dimethylamino- (A), 2-methyl-4-N,N-dimethylamino- (B) and 2,6-dimethyl-4-N,N-dimethylaminonitrosobenzene (C) have been measured. The solvent effects in n → π∗ and π → π∗ transition bands of (A) were examined. It was concluded that the protio solvents and dimethyltin dichloride interact with the oxygen atom of (A), (B) and (C), and that protons interact with both the oxygen and the nitrogen atoms of the N-O group. The PMR spectra of (A), (B) and (C) were measured. The anisotropio effect of the N-lone pair was estimated.

Über ψ-tetra-, penta- und hexakoordinierte sulfinatokomplexe des zinns

Colourless, stable, polymeric, ψ-tetrahedrally coordinated O-sulfinates of divalent tin, Sn(O 2SR) 2, were obtained by reaction of SNCl 2·2 H 2O with sodium organosulfinates, NaO 2SR (R = p-CH 3C 6H 4, C 6H 5), in ethanol. Colourless penta- and hexa-coordinated double O-sulfinato complexes of the type (C 6H 5) 3SnO 2SR, (C 6H 5) 2Sn(O 2SR) 2 and (CH 3) 2Sn(O 2SR) 2 were formed respectively by reaction of triphenyltin chloride and diphenyl- and dimethyltin dichloride with sodium organosulfinates, NaO 2SR (R = p-CH 3C 6H 4, C 6H 5, CH 3), in THF. The structural investigations were performed with the aid of infrared, Raman, Mössbauer, and mass spectroscopy.

Organotin chemistry : VI. The preparation and Mössbauer spectra of some butyltin(IV), dialkyltin(IV) and simple and mixed hexahalogenostannate complexes

The Mössbauer spectra of some complexes of butyltin trichloride, dimethyltin dichloride and dioctyltin dichloride have been recorded, and the observed quadrupole splittings compared with the relative values predicted for the point-charge models. In the simple and mixed tetraethylammonium hexahalogenostannate ions, (Et 4N +) 2SnX 2− 6 and (Et 4N +) 2SnX 4Y 2− 2, there is a linear relationship between the isomer shift and the sum of the (Mullikan) electronegativities of the ligands.

Crystal structure and Mössbauer spectrum of dimethyltin dichloride

The crystal structure of dimethyltin dichloride has been solved and the parameters have been refined by three-dimensional least-squares analysis. The environment of the tin atoms is considerably distorted from the regular tetrahedral co-ordination towards octahedral, because of the association between neighbouring molecules.The Mossbauer spectra of the dialkyltin dichlorides are discussed in terms of this structure, and of the dialkyltin difluorides in terms of a trans-octahedral configuration.
