AbstractTwo complexes containing (nBu)2Sn4O4L4 (L = salicylaminoaryl alcohols) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and 1H, 13C, and 119Sn NMR as well as IR spectroscopy. The crystal structure of complex 2.2 was determined by X‐ray crystallography. It consists of three, four‐member Sn2O2 rings in a ladder‐like, structural arrangement with four tin centers, bridged by four, three‐coordinate μ3‐oxygen atoms. The dimeric distannoxane have two different, pentacoordinate tin atoms, where the Schiff base acts as monodentate ligand. The complexes were subjected to a thiobarbituric acid, reactive substance (TBARS) assay, which displayed a higher antioxidant activity than the α‐tocopherol and Butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT), used as positive controls.
