THE PERCEPTIONS OF EMPLOYEES ON ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT DIMENSIONS: A STUDY AT TWO STATES IN THE SOUTHERN ZONE OF MALAYSIA

In recent years, many companies had to make their supply chains more sustainable by focusing not only on economic goals but also on environmental goals. Employee involvement is critical to the successful implementation of environmental management dimensions in the workplace. This study aims to determine employees’ perceptions of the environmental management dimensions employed for a district council in the Southern zone state of Malaysia. Using a questionnaire, data were collected from 50 respondents (16 companies/facilities) in the Johor state and 32 respondents (17 companies/facilities) in the Malacca state. The main findings show that more than half of the respondents understood environmental management and were willing to consider environmental practices in their organisation/facility. This study also verifies the environmental issues that need to be considered in environmental management implementation. Relevant recommendations are then provided to facilitate an understanding of where the attention should be directed in developing and improving environmental management in organisations.

The current research aims to analyze the biology book for the preparatory stage in Iraq in the light of the dimensions and functions of environmental management, and I the method of content analysis to achieve these goals, where a standard for the dimensions of environmental management and A standard for environmental management functions was built, where the standard of dimensions consists of five dimensions: the human dimension, the social dimension, the environmental dimension, the economic dimension, the technological dimension) and the criterion for environmental management functions consists of nine functions which are (environmental education, environmental awareness, sustainable environmental development, environmental ethics, environmental planning, environmental control, environmental review, environmental assessment and environmental regulation). The number of analyzed pages is (222) pages, and after the analysis and making sure of its validity and reliability, it was concluded that the total of the frequencies that per to the dimensions of environmental management in the book of biology for the fifth grade scientific (biological) (0) and the total of the frequencies that pertain to the functions of environmental management in the book of science Biology for the fourth scientific grade (0) repetition. In light of the results of the research, the researcher recommends activating the role of the dimensions and functions of environmental management by including it in biology books for the fifth grade (biology) and holding workshops and training programs for biology teachers on environmental management and its dimensions and functions. Combining high-resolution remotely sensed data with local and Indigenous Knowledge to model the landscape suitability of culturally modified trees: biocultural stewardship in Kitasoo/Xai’xais Territory

Environmental management and monitoring must reconcile social and cultural objectives with biodiversity stewardship to overcome political barriers to conservation. Suitability modelling offers a powerful tool for such “biocultural” approaches, but examples remain rare. Led by the Stewardship Authority of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation in coastal British Columbia, Canada, we developed a locally informed suitability model for a key biocultural indicator, culturally modified trees (CMTs). CMTs are trees bearing evidence of past cultural use that are valued as tangible markers of Indigenous heritage and protected under provincial law. Using a spatial multi-criteria evaluation framework to predict CMT suitability, we developed two cultural predictor variables informed by Kitasoo/Xai’xais cultural expertise and ethnographic data in addition to six biophysical variables derived from LiDAR and photo interpretation data. Both cultural predictor variables were highly influential in our model, revealing that proximity to known habitation sites and accessibility to harvesters (by canoe and foot) more strongly influenced suitability for CMTs compared with site-level conditions. Applying our model to commercial forestry governance, we found that high CMT suitability areas are 51% greater inside the timber harvesting land base than outside. This work highlights how locally led suitability modelling can improve the social and evidentiary dimensions of environmental management.

THE PERCEPTIONS TOWARDS GREEN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT DIMENSIONS: A STUDY AT PONTIAN DISTRICT COUNCIL, JOHOR STATE OF MALAYSIA

Environmental management is an important management in building the quality of human life. The management of the green environment, in turn, adds value to efforts to build a more harmonious environment in an effort to prevent pollution related to land, water, fire, and wind. This study takes one step towards identifying people's perceptions of the dimensions of environmental management that affect their lives and their environment. This study focuses on the Pontian district, the Johor state of Malaysia with the objective of this study was to identify the perceptions of Pontian district council staff on the dimensions of environmental management in relation to their work environment as the Pontian district council staff are directly and indirectly involved in green environment management such as waste management and green environmental competency. The survey respondents consisted of 120 staff at the Pontian District Council. The results showed four dimensions of green environment management outcome with the highest percentage agreement is a green organizational climate of 73.5 percent followed by green environment efficiency giving a 72.5 percent agreement percentage followed by green quality of working life 66.8 percent and finally green environmental of waste management by 60.8 percent.

Configurations of environmental management strategy: evidence from the container shipping service industry

This study applies the theory of strategic groups to segment environmental management practices orientation, and assess the performance outcomes of different environmental strategy oriented groups in container shipping sector in Taiwan. Based on data collected from 152 shipping firms, four environmental management dimensions were identified based on factor analysis: 1) environmental auditing; 2) environmental collaboration; 3) environmental purchasing; 4) environmental commitment. Cluster analysis was subsequently used to assign respondents' firms to three environmental strategy oriented groups, namely: environmental commitment oriented firms, environmental collaboration oriented firms, and environmental auditing and environmental purchasing oriented firms, based on their factor scores in the four environmental management dimensions. Finally, analysis of variance (ANOVA) results indicate that environmental auditing and purchasing oriented firms exhibited the best environmental performance among the groups, whereas environmental commitment oriented firms possessed the best non-financial performance, and environmental collaboration oriented firms had the best financial performance.

Strategies for sustainable urban development: towards green(er) Chinese cities?

In the face of more and more environmental pollution and the rapid pace of urbanisation, sustainable urban development has become an increasingly important issue for China. As the country aims to bring urbanisation levels up to 70% by 2035, the way its cities develop and the control of resources consumed for growing urban activity are of paramount importance. Yet, despite a rhetoric pushing for the realisation of sustainable cities, urban development practices currently show a persistently different picture, casting doubts over the effectiveness of policies adopted at the different levels of government. The different dimensions of environmental management in sustainable urban development policies still encounter important obstacles in their implementation.

The effect of environmental management on environmental performance and firm performance in Taiwanese maritime firms

This paper aims to empirically examine the impact of environmental management on environmental performance and firm performance in Taiwanese maritime firms. Three critical environmental management dimensions were identified based on factor analysis: environmental management practices, environmental management auditing, and environmental management investment. A structural equation modelling (SEM) was performed to examine the effects of environmental management on environmental performance and firm performance. The results indicated that environmental management had significantly positive effects on environmental performance and firm performance. However, environmental performance was not found to be related to firm performance in this study.

Determinants of Environmental Management in the Red Sea Hotels

What motivates firms to adopt environmental management practices is one of the most significant aspects in the contemporary academic debate in which the review of the existing literature yields, with an obvious contextual bias toward developed world, contested theories and inconclusive findings. Providing a unique model that brings together the individual and organizational levels of analysis on firms’ adoption of environmental management practices, this study aims to provide a new insight from the context of developing world. Data from 158 Red Sea hotels reveal two identifiable dimensions of environmental management—planning and organization, and operations—that can be explained as originating from different values. Whereas organizational altruism is a powerful predictor of both dimensions, managers’ personal values and organizational competitive orientation are only relevant to environmental operations. The evidence also indicates that contextual variables such as chain affiliation, hotel star rating, and size are important to explain hotels’ environmental management behaviors.

MUNICIPAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: INTEGRATION AND SYSTEMIZATION PRACTICE FOR FURTHER EDUCATION

Grounded environmental management training / education basic principles and approaches e.g.: complexity and wholity of spectrum for environmental management content, particularly nature and social environment interaction; interlinkage of biotic, abiotic, anthropological and communicational structures; complimentarily of state / public, household and municipal and corporate, as well as regional and international environmental management dimensions; functionality of strategic / policy and planning, programming and projecting (4P) levels of environmental management; disciplinarization and integration of environmental management realizations; necessity of environmental awareness development of specialists and public through environmental communication - information, education, participation and environmentally friendly behavior, applicability of monitoring, evaluation, planning and decision making realization functions of environmental management.

An overview of the environmental management dimensions of current and future conflicts in the use of the River Elbe in Hamburg

This paper provides an overview of the environmental management dimensions of current and future conflicts in the use of the River Elbe in Hamburg, Germany. The Elbe River catchment area is described and an overview of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg with some of the characteristic figures regarding social and economic activities is be given, followed by a short description of the Elbe River within the borders of Hamburg. Some of the environmental management problems encountered in Hamburg are described and conflicts regarding the management of the Elbe River in Hamburg are listed. The paper provides some conclusions on how to improve the environmental conditions of the River Elbe in Hamburg, taking the social, economic, and political development of the region into consideration.

Towards a Process Model of Corporate Greening

Internal processes of corporate greening have received little scholarly attention. A two-study investigation of consumer-goods producers, implementing environmental management and subject to the 1991 German Packaging Ordinance offers new insights. Findings from Study 1, an exploratory factor analysis, suggest two independent dimensions of environmental management: Policy Commitment and Approach to Implementation. We expand traditional strategic change models, and generate a typology of four types of corporate greening: Deliberate Reactive, Unrealized, Emergent Active, and Deliberate Proactive greening. These are fleshed out with four known cases in Study 2. Alternative conceptual scenarios, developed to explain those types with inconsistent values for Policy Commitment and Implementation, point to new directions for research on the dynamics of internal processes of corporate greening. We conclude with implications for corporate social performance and strategic process models.

Dimensions of Environmental Management

A fruitful approach to studying environmental management is the analysis of industry-government relationships. Policy is defined and translated into action in this context. We find that industrial managers legitimize government regulation of industrial water use. However, the pattern of responses suggests that some of the support may be based on economic self-interest and industry's ability to control agency action. Managers legitimize a policy-setting role for federal agencies and an enforcement role for local and state government. The role of public opinion in industry-agency relationships is also discussed.

Policy planning for environmental management

This article considers Environmental Management as being made up of three parts: Assessment, Renewable Resource Management, and the Regulation and Control of Pollution. The author argues that the traditional dichotomy of social and physical dimensions of environmental management must be done away with. He believes that the rapidly evolving concept of Policy Planning can provide the mechanisms to deal with the problem of management in this area.
