In Virginia Woolf's classic work To the Lighthouse, although Lily is not the main character, the idea of bisexuality embodied in her makes her one of the most important objects in the study of feminist thought. This paper intends to start from the rough painting process of Lily in To the Lighthouse to discover the content of Lily beyond feminist thought. Through the study, it finds that Lili not only symbolizes the beautiful personality of bisexuality, but she is also full of anxiety and dilemmas: the dilemma of the mind when creating, the anxiety about the right of free choice, the anxiety about the meaning of life existence, and the dilemmas of communication between human beings and human beings, between human beings and the ego, and the book also puts forward the way of transcending anxiety and dilemmas. The book also suggests ways to transcend anxiety and dilemma. Through analyzing the process of Lili's painting, this paper uncovers the anxious and difficult side of Lili's image, which not only enriches the previous research on Lili's image (bisexual homoeroticism), but also further reveals her complex and varied inner spiritual world, and these discoveries provide us with a more comprehensive and in-depth perspective for understanding and interpreting this important character in this masterpiece of literature.

Breaking through the "Tower of Babel": Exploratory Research on the International Communication Practice of Artificial Intelligence Generating News

With the deepening influence of artificial intelligence on the production mode of news and the increasing application of technological innovation in cross-border communication, this study found that artificial intelligence can solve the communication dilemma of language in cross-cultural communication revealed in the myth of the Tower of Babel through language translation and empathetic communication strategies. The literature review section introduces the basic concepts of cross-cultural empathy communication and the practical application of artificial intelligence-generated news in international communication. Multiple case studies were used in the research method, based on the specific practices of major media outlets including Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, China Central Television, Associated Press, New York Times, and CBS in the application of intelligent technology. The research results indicate that the application of intelligent technology in the news production process has significantly improved work efficiency and promoted innovation in news production models at three levels: technical logic, media logic, and capital logic. The conclusion drawn from this article is that the deep involvement of generative artificial intelligence technology in the news production process can help build a new production mechanism that balances efficiency and responsibility and promotes the comprehensive improvement of efficiency and quality in cross-cultural communication. Future research will continue to focus on the empirical application of intelligent technology in news production, further optimizing news production models, and providing new perspectives and methods for developing the media industry.

‘Everybody Else in That Room’: support dilemmas and benefits of supportive communication in batterer intervention

ABSTRACT The purpose of the current study was to explore the benefits and dilemmas of supportive communication within BIPs and how dilemmas influence participants’ ability to access support resources and benefit from educational content. Specifically, this study examines competing goals, strategies, and interpretations of supportive communication within a BIP group located in the midwestern United States, targeting heterosexually-identifying DV perpetrators. Results suggest men encounter several support dilemmas that must be overcome to gain access to BIP group benefits. Specifically, openness to seeking and receiving support in BIPs involves threats of negative evaluation, threats to identity, and loss of control. Additionally, the artificiality of the BIP group conditions creates challenges for men once they leave and support resources are reduced in their existing social networks. This study makes a theoretical contribution by extending the theory of support dilemmas [Albrecht, T. L., & Adelman, M. B. (1987). Communicating social support. Sage.] to illuminate the unique challenges that BIPs present, several of which are specific to norms of masculinity. Practical applications are recommended to BIP practitioners with the aim to increase the efficacy of BIP curricular delivery and program outcomes.

42 Challenges for agricultural social media influencers engagement with young, non-ag adults

Abstract Segments of society question the welfare of animals in production, whether types of product consumption have a negative impact on personal health, and environmental sustainability of producing livestock. As most Americans are three or more generations removed from production agriculture (American Farm Bureau, 2020), they have minimal incentive to question unsubstantiated information purported by anti-animal agriculture groups. Ag communication strategies often seem to fall short compared with anti-agricultural messages shared throughout the media infosphere. Prominent forms of digital / social media (SM) platforms have infiltrated daily lives of society. With the significance of engagement factors such as likes, comments, shares, and saves on such platforms in mind, our research sought to assess the willingness of SM users to interact with content on Instagram created by agricultural social media influencers (SMIs). Participants (n = 855; ages 18-30 from the U.S. and a non-ag background) were recruited through Prolific and anonymously completed a Qualtrics survey. Quantitative data were responses to questions about willingness to engage with both general content and agriculture-related content. Participants were shown images and narrative content from well-established agricultural SMIs. Participants were surveyed both before and after being shown example image posts of agricultural SMIs. Data were analyzed utilizing SPSS with independent variables consisting of general content versus agricultural content while dependent variables were comprised of the summation of participant engagement type willingness which was operationalized by numerically converting the five-point Likert scale. Results showed differences (P < 0.05) in willingness to engage with agricultural SMI through likes, comments, shares, and saves than with general content. Results imply that agricultural SMIs will have more limited opportunities to facilitate engagement with young adult Instagram users than those that share generalized content. These outcomes reinforce a communication dilemma around SM engagement that focuses on reaching non-ag audiences with image and evidence-based agricultural content.

Research on Human-Robot Interaction Methods Based on Audience Cognition

There are various ways of information transmission, but due to factors such as temporal and spatial differences, semantic expressions, and cultural differences, some information would inevitably be lost during the transmission process. Fortunately, in the information age, various modern information technologies can effectively compensate for the shortcomings of human communication, and social robots have become emerging communication tools. This article analyzes the dilemma of human-robot communication from the perspective of audience cognition and finds that there are still problems with the positioning of social robots and their technology, as well as individual human cognitive limitations and usage challenges. These factors significantly impede the innovative evolution of human-robot communication modes. To address these challenges, the article proposes several response strategies aimed at offering insights and inspiration for the advancement of human-robot communication.

Meanings and dilemmas of consent communication for sexual minorities

ABSTRACT Research on consent communication focused on the experiences and perspectives of heterosexual individuals, leaving sexual minority individuals potentially vulnerable in their communication with partners. The current study relied on normative rhetorical theory and semi-structured interviews with individuals who self-identified as lesbian, gay, and bisexual. To participants, consent communication meant engaging in a clear, verbal discussion; showing enthusiasm; coming to an agreement; and, consulting with oneself and one's partner throughout a sexual encounter. Participants also shared consent communication dilemmas that were related to the difficulties of defining “sex” in same-sex sexual encounters, heteronormative consent standards, discomfort voicing one's sexual needs, partners who were resistant to sexual communication, and past sexual assault. The discussion reviews key findings, offers possible explanations with directions for future research.

Application of multi-source remote sensing technology in UAV communication control system

Abstract Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are crucial in various sectors but face challenges in communication reliability. This paper introduces a cutting-edge UAV communication control system, designed using time-series synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) technology and support vector machine (SVM) classification. Our findings reveal exceptional communication link performance across multiple flight scenarios, notably achieving a bit error rate (BER) of 0.001% in cruising mode. Additionally, the system demonstrated remarkable reception sensitivity, closely aligning with theoretical predictions at −81.1 dBm. This innovative approach utilizes multi-source remote sensing to significantly enhance UAV communication, offering a novel strategy for addressing UAV communication dilemmas.

Traditional culture is a symbol of a country’s existence and history. The external dissemination of traditional culture is the key to expanding the country’s influence and enhancing the country’s international image. The external dissemination of culture also poses a potential impact on the country’s economy and development. In the context of the information age, the dissemination of Chinese traditional culture is attached great importance. The culture of the Forbidden City, from self-construction to borrowing, from online to offline all-media communication channels, unique and novel cultural and creative products and a young brand image provide it with a unique means of communication. The dissemination of the Forbidden City culture is of positive significance to the demonstration of cultural confidence and the innovation and development of culture, and it can be used as a typical case of the dissemination of Chinese traditional culture. Big data technology analyzes the research object through the process of data collection, data screening and data processing, combined with various data analysis tools, and the ultimate goal is to obtain favorable results for the analyst based on the analysis. The use of big data technology in cultural communication research has gradually become the focus of current scholars. This paper takes the Forbidden City culture as the research object, analyzes the current situation of the foreign communication of the traditional culture of the Forbidden City, puts forward the dilemma of the current external communication of Chinese traditional culture based on the current situation, summarizes the problems and reasons of traditional cultural communication, and designs corresponding solutions combined with big data technology. Through the data simulation of Chinese traditional cultural communication using big data solutions, it is found that the demand satisfaction, cultural benefits after cultural communication, and the direction of cultural influence have all improved after analyzing the user’s individual needs combined with big data technology.

Big data background of county-level media “mobility” pressure cracking strategy

Abstract The construction of county-level integrated media is facing a communication dilemma, and it must alter the way and method of communication by using big data. In this paper, under the background of big data, the basic metric features of the users of integrated media communication are calculated by name similarity, one-hot coding features, following rate, etc., which are combined with the pixel statistical characteristics and avatar personality features to build a user portrait of integrated media communication. Taking the user’s profile as the anchor point of communication, the CD-VAE model is used to predict and analyze the early communication of integrated media content. Through case studies, the current characteristics of county-level integrated media and the trend of primary and secondary dissemination are examined. The first and second newspapers were distributed 278 times and 251 times, respectively, with a conversion rate of 12.61%. The primary and secondary dissemination of Jitterbug reached 303 and 284 times, respectively, as media in the era of mobile Internet. The use of big data technology can effectively analyze the development pain points of county-level integrated media.

Brand Communication Strategy and Influence Enhancement of Higher Vocational Education Based on Information Communication Models

Abstract This paper firstly researches the brand communication strategy and influence enhancement of higher vocational education, according to the strategic layout of vocational education, the SWOT analysis of online brand communication of offline vocational education institutions and online vocational education institutions, and then puts forward the strategy of enhancing the influence of brand communication of higher vocational education. Secondly, based on the multi-information interaction communication mechanism, research on the influence of vocational education brand communication based on the information dissemination model is proposed for the brand communication dilemma of vocational education in the new media environment. Then, considering the influence mechanism inference, a single intelligent body model needs to be extended to the whole multi-vocational education information interaction communication model to make the vocational education information interaction communication more stable, and research and analysis of vocational education brand communication strategy and influence enhancement based on the information communication model. The results show that targeted vocational education information will occupy more storage space, the vector sum will be more, and the trend and evolution state of vocational education information dissemination can be effectively controlled by controlling the vector sum. This study enhances the impact of brand communication on higher vocational education.

Sequential Standoffs in Police Encounters With the Public

Research on interactions involving police officers foregrounds the importance of their communicative practices for fostering civilians’ perceptions of police legitimacy. Building on this research, we describe a pattern of conduct that is a recurrent source of trouble in such encounters, which we call sequential standoffs. These standoffs emerge when two parties persistently pursue alternative courses of action, producing a stalemate in which neither progress in, nor exit from, either course of action appears viable. They are routinely resolved by officers (re)casting civilians’ pursuit of one course of action as constituting resistance to the officers’ proposed course of action, and thus as warranting officers’ use of coercive violence to resolve the stalemate. In some cases, however, officers resolve standoffs cooperatively using sequentially accommodative methods. We consider how these findings advance approaches to communicative dilemmas in policing, and their broader significance for scholars of social interaction, and of the interactional organization of conflicts.

The aim of this paper is to explore the challenges and coping strategies of cross-cultural communication in international trade. Firstly, we introduce the importance and challenges of international trade, including business opportunities and risks. Then, we delve into several key aspects of cross-cultural communication challenges, including language barriers, cultural differences, and communication misunderstandings. In terms of coping strategies, we propose methods such as cross-cultural training, cultural sensitivity cultivation, and establishing effective communication mechanisms. These coping strategies aim to help businesses overcome challenges, build good cooperative relationships, and improve the effectiveness of international trade. Lastly, we emphasize the significance of this research and suggest future research directions, encouraging further exploration and improvement of international trade practices under cross-cultural communication challenges. Through the study presented in this paper, we can better understand and address the challenges of cross-cultural communication in international trade, enhancing the competitiveness and international cooperation capabilities of businesses.

Reviving the experiential store: the effect of scarcity and perceived novelty in driving word-of-mouth

PurposeExperiential stores offer potential for emotional brand-consumer connections and word-of-mouth (WoM) generation. Past research links the lifecycle of such stores with perceived novelty, a defining characteristic that has not received sufficient recognition. Scarce products are identified as a promising strategy to enhance novelty perceptions. Additionally, the authors differentiate between electronic and interpersonal WoM, and consider need for uniqueness (NFU) as a relevant personality variable.Design/methodology/approachThis study encompasses three experiments that seek to shed light on suggested relationships. The first two experiments explore the interplay between scarcity, perceived novelty, and WoM. Moving forward, the third study delves deeper into the matter, scrutinizing the conditions under which scarce products manifest their utility in experiential stores.FindingsThe findings indicate that incorporating scarce products can rejuvenate the novelty aspect of experiential stores and promote positive WoM outcomes. Additionally, including NFU as a personality variable presents a communication dilemma, as high NFU individuals tend to engage more in electronic WoM but less in interpersonal WoM. However, this relationship is contingent on circumstances, with high NFU individuals showing a greater inclination towards interpersonal WoM when the probability of being imitated is low.Practical implicationsThis study offers practical guidance for brand managers aiming to sustain the appeal and success of their experiential stores, as well as for commercial real estate managers seeking to revitalize vacant spaces in the post-COVID-19 era.Originality/valueThis pioneering study investigates the role of perceived novelty and scarce products in experiential stores, aiming to identify optimal conditions for favorable consumer responses. It also contributes to research on the forward spillover effect and underscores the importance of interpersonal proximity in WoM investigations.

Gu Ailing Eileen a Comparative Study on Media Reporting Agenda and Microblog Agenda – Take the Original Report of Xinhua News Agency and the Hot Search Terms on Weibo, for Example

During the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, the Olympic champion Gu Ailing Eileen became popular and gained a lot of attention in the Chinese and foreign media. With the rise of popularity and influenced by online public opinion, Gu Ailing Eileen's nationality and excellent academic performance have triggered scrambling media reports, which has become a typical case of the dilemma of public crisis communication and public discussion in China. Based on the agenda theory, the paper makes a comparative study on the relevant entries and news content based on Gu Ailing in Sina Weibo and Xinhua News Agency, and tries to explore the differences in the relationship between them from the perspective of the agenda.
