A Novel Approach to Digital Contents Sharing for Digital Home Network

The purpose of Digital Rights Management (DRM) is to prevent the illegal copying and distribution of digital contents. Common DRM, however, is inappropriate for a digital home environment that consists of family members and devices. Different family members need different access rights to DRM contents in their home networks. This paper presents a novel approach to digital contents sharing for digital home network. This approach adopts the idea of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and license chain and allows digital contents sharing to be convenient and controlled. Through analyzing the performance of the approach, we conclude that this novel approach is more secure and flexible, and it satisfies the requirement of digital home networks.

Game-Theoretic Analyses and Simulations of Adoptions of Security Policies for Drm in Contents Sharing Scenario

Abstract A legitimate contents sharing is an essential functionality of DRM (Digital Rights Management)-enabling contents industry and its value chain extension. In order to effectively choose and deploy some typical security policies in a contents sharing scenario, we introduced game theory to analysis the mutual influence of adoptions of trusted computing enabling enhanced security policies on benefits of two stakeholders, which are DRM Providers and contents Sharer who is a category of consumers. A dynamic and mixed game and its algorithm were proposed, where Sharer’s strategies were whether to employ the trusted computing enabling devices and related components or not, as well as Providers’ strategies included entirely general security, entirely enhanced security and dynamic security policies. Design and development challenges for an E2E DRM content business integration platform

Current studies on Digital Rights Management (DRM) have focused on controlling access to and copies of contents, centered exclusively on the end of the value chain (end users). This focus has been oriented towards security and encryption as a means of solving the issue of illegal copying by purchasers. In this paper, we propose End-to-End Digital Rights Management (E2E DRM) that involves the protection of the content throughout the entire value chain. This concept is given form in the new technologies for representing intellectual property (IP) which, in a secure and unequivocal manner, identify the content at each point in the value chain: from the author to the end user, the content is identifiable in any of the transactions and statuses through which it passes. The key concept which E2E DRM must provide is not only the governability of access and copying, but also that of all the processes associated with the content business. We establish an E2E DRM model and architecture, and propose the R&D management of its design and implementation that makes it possible to protect content from content creator to purchaser. Finally, the paper also analyzes their impact from a global perspective.

Digital rights management (DRM) and the development of mobile content in Europe

If mobile content is going to be a success, it is important that the content provided to the end users is of high quality and that it creates value for the end users. Therefore, it is important that the content producers can protect their copyrights in order to be able to earn money on the production of high value content. Due to “Everything-over-IP” (i.e. a single Internet Protocol platform for both voice and data traffic) and convergence, including the extension of the media sector to the mobile sector, more distribution channels are made available for content. In this situation, DRM can play an important role as it enables the content producers to better control and bill their content although it is distributed over several different distribution channels and networks. This paper looks at the possibilities of DRM for the development of mobile content markets. It will in detail look at the current legal problems and possibilities that are associated with DRM and mobile content, i.e. the national borders due to national legal systems, the harmonisation at EU level, the problems with copies for personal use, the enabling of control over copyrights and the legal protection of DRM systems. Based on the analysis of the legal situation, the outcomes on the development of mobile content markets are analysed.
