Technology in textile industry has improved processes and making fabrics production more efficiently. Recent developments in technology in textiles show that textile and fashion segment will continue to evolve with the continuous innovations. Technology developed to enable vibrant imaging on fabrics and alterations to be done with a simple click on mouse. With the latest technological developments and innovations, the apparel industry is undergoing with interested changes. In the modern textile designs, digital photo types are used as an essential tool. Varieties of IoT sensors are used to collect persons’ biometric data for the purpose of effective health and activity monitoring.

Evaluation of environmental impacts of cotton polo shirt production in Bangladesh using life cycle assessment

The textile industry is widely considered as one of the most pollutant-releasing sectors globally. As the world is moving toward sustainability, it is essential to thoroughly assess how a textile product affects the environment. The aim of this study is to investigate the environmental impact of textile manufacturing in Bangladesh using life cycle assessment (LCA) method. A cradle-to-gate LCA was conducted to produce 1000 units of cotton polo shirts following ISO 14040 standards. LCA was also conducted for each final product at every manufacturing stage of cotton polo shirt, including the production of 1000 kg of cotton fibers, 1000 kg of yarn, 1000 kg of grey fabrics, 1000 kg of dyed-finished fabrics, and finally, assembling of 1000 pieces of polo shirts. Inventory analysis revealed that for producing 1000 pieces of polo shirts, 0.12 hector of land, 363.89 kg of cotton fiber, 324.84 kg of yarn, 320.45 kg of knitted fabric, and 299.5 kg of dyed-finished fabrics were required. The study also found that 1550.9 kWh of electricity, 15.47 L of diesel, and 72.54 m3 of natural gas were needed to produce 1000 pieces of polo shirts. The potential environmental impacts were categorized into 12 different types based on the CML 2001 method and calculated using openLCA 2.0 software. The outcomes of LCA revealed considerable environmental impacts in different categories during manufacturing of cotton polo shirts in Bangladesh. For example, the global warming potential (GWP) associated with the manufacturing of 1000 pieces of polo shirts was 1345.97 kg CO2-eq. Among several production stages of polo shirts, the highest contributor of GWP was dyeing section (38.36 %), followed by cotton fiber production (29.32 %) and yarn manufacturing (18.92 %). The obtained data also revealed that for cultivating cotton fibers, manufacturing of yarn and grey fabrics, and finally dyeing-finishing of same quantity fabric (1000 kg), the GWP were 1084.41 kg CO2-eq, 783.67 kg CO2-eq, 145.88 kg CO2-eq, 1723.88 kg CO2-eq, 314.94 kg CO2-eq, respectively. The outcome of the impact assessment will be crucial for decision-making when it comes to taking remedial actions to lessen negative environmental consequences for the sustainable development of textile industry in Bangladesh.

Efficient rhodamine B dye degradation by red mud-grapefruit peel biochar catalysts activated persulfate in water.

The continuous and rapid development of textile industry intensifies rhodamine B dye (RhB) wastewater pollution. Meanwhile, massive red mud (RM) solid waste generated by the industrial alumina production process poses detrimental effects to the environment after leaching. For resource utilization and to reduce the expansion of RhB pollution, RM and peel red mud-biochar composite (RMBC) catalyst were synthesized in activating peroxydisulfate (PDS) for RhB degradation. Firstly, characterization results showed that compared to RM, RMBC had a higher content of catalytically active metals (Fe, Al, Ti) (higher than 0.92-4.18%), smaller pore size, and larger specific surface area (10 times), which verified RMBC had more potential catalytic oxidation activity. Secondly, under optimal dosage (catalyst, PDS), pH 4.6, and 20 mg L-1 RhB, it was found that the RhB degradation ratio of RM was 76.70%, which was reduced to 41% after three cycles, while that of RMBC was 89.98% and 67%, respectively. The results indicated that the performance of RMBC was significantly superior to that of RM. Furthermore, the quenching experiments, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy tests, FTIR, and XPS analysis showed the function of O-H, C=O, C-O, Fe-O, and Fe-OH functional groups, which converted the PDS to the active state and hydrolyzed it to produce free radicals ([Formula: see text], 1O2, [Formula: see text]) for RhB degradation. And, Q Exactive Plus MS test obtained that RhB was degraded to CO2, H2O, and intermediate products. This study aimed to raise a new insight to the resource utilization of RM and the control of dye pollution.

Durable multifunctional cotton fabric with superior biocidal efficacy and flame retardancy based on an ammonium phosphate N-halamine

Multifunctional textiles have become the mainstreams along with development of textile industry and the increased need of public. But a facile fabrication method with well-balance of multiple functions is still a challenge. In this work, an ammonium salt of tris(methylphosphonate)aminomethane (TAMPU), which can directly react with cellulose molecules and transform to N-halamine antibacterial structure, was easily synthesized and used to achieve multifunctional cotton fabric. As a result, the modified cotton fabric of 15.8 % weight gain exhibited excellent fire resistance with LOI value of 33.8 % and self-extinguishing behavior. Due to the good char-forming capacity of TAMPU, strong heat suppression was achieved and the peak of heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) were decreased by 87.6 % and 60.8 %, respectively. Besides, the modified samples presented outstanding bactericidal effects, and all of S. aureus and E. coli could be inactivated within 5 min without dissolution phenomenon. Furthermore, the TAMPU-modified cotton fabric owned good washing durability and LOI value was remained at 29.8 % after 50 washing cycles. This TAMPU multifunctional modification had slight influence on the mechanical property and air permeability of cotton fabric. Thus, this work provides a convenient and friendly way to fabricate multifunctional flame-retardant and antibacterial cotton fabric.

Facile synthesis of Bi2WO6/Bi2MoO6 Z-scheme heterojunction for dye degradation and Cr(VI) reduction

Dyeing wastewater has been one of the severe pollutant crises along the textile industry development, and the design of effective photocatalysts is the attractive strategy for wastewater remediation. Herein, Bi2WO6/Bi2MoO6 microspheres with the high surface area of 12.16 m2/g were prepared by the solvothermal synthesis method, and the hybrid photocatalyst exhibited outstanding solar absorption, photoelectric conversion and photocatalytic performances. The photoelectric tests indicated that the sample photoelectrode exhibite high transient visible light-driven photocurrent value (1.91 μA/cm2) and low interface resistance. The photocatalytic rate constants for rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB) photodegradation achieved 1.65 × 10-2 min−1 and 3.78 × 10-2 min−1. The main active species for dye photodegradation were O2 radicals, and the preparation and photocatalytic mechanisms were proposed. Furthermore, the as-prepared photocatalyst also showed high photoremoval of Cr(VI) under visible light irradiation, and the high photocatalytic efficiency (68.57%) was obtained after 160 min irradiation. The excellent photoelectrochemical performance was mainly ascribed to the outstanding photoelectron separation and transportation from Z-scheme heterojunction structure construction. The investigation about Bi2WO6/Bi2MoO6 photocatalysts would provide a feasible route for novel photocatalyst design toward photocatalytic dyeing wastewater purification.

Edible pullulan enhanced water-soluble keratin with improved sizing performance for sustainable textile industry

Feather keratin from waste feather has become an attractive target to replace petroleum-based Poly (vinyl alcohol) sizes due to its easy film-forming ability, excellent adhesive property, biodegradability and low cost. However, poor water-solubility and brittleness of pure keratin films have become the bottlenecks and restricted the application of keratin as sizing agents. Therefore, water-soluble keratin was extracted by the reduction-preservation method and enhanced by saccharides in aqueous system to obtain all-green keratin-based slurry. The results showed that the keratin-based slurry exhibited improved sizing performance in the order of sucrose ≤ glucose ≤ pullulan by the moderate Maillard reaction. Among them, the fabricated pullulan-keratin sizes films had 27.86 %, 2684.08 % and 2911.31 % increment in tensile strength, elongation and work of facture compared with pure keratin sizes films. Besides, the addition of pullulan and subsequently moderate Maillard reaction improved the thermo-tenacity of keratin-based sizes, which was expected to tackle with the brittleness of pure keratin size films. In addition, novel pullulan-keratin sizes had good sizing performance and high desizing efficiency to cotton, cotton/polyester and polyester yarns and fabrics. Successful utilization of pullulan-keratin sizes will bring opportunities for high value utilization of waste feather and promote the green and low-carbon development of textile industry.

Sustainability of the European textile industry

The objective of this article is to study sustainability of the European textile industry. The descriptive-analytical method is used to fulfill the aim - the theoretical aspects of the researched scientific field are investigated on the basis of a current literature survey. The collected information is summarized and analyzed using a systematic approach; an analytical approach; a study of the works of authors in the field; a comparative analysis; an observational method; and the determination of relative shares. The textile industry in the context of the circular economy and the Union's policies should lead to improvements in the environmental performance of textile raw materials and materials, production, consumption, textile waste management, as well as their reduction, recycling, processing and environmental impact calculation. The sustainability of the textile industry can also be realized through the development and implementation of digitalization. Sustainability development of textile industry includes the three dimensions of sustainability: social, ecological and economic, which can be implemented in the context of the circular economy, digitalization and Sustainable Development Goals for the textile industry, in line with Europe 2030 policies. Exploring the Role of Entrepreneurial Leadership in Decent Work and Economic Growth: A Sustainable Development of Textile Industry of Pakistan

The following research paper aimed to examine the role of entrepreneurial leadership in sustainable development goals (SDGs) particularly Goal 8 focusing decent work and economic growth. The study has been conducted under the context of textile industry of Pakistan. The findings showed a literature gap in the area of entrepreneurial leadership and SDG8. In recent years, demand of entrepreneurial leadership has increased because such leaders demonstrate risk taking, empathetic, strategic and visionary behaviors. All these traits are potentially beneficial for attaining sustainable goals particularly decent work for labors and economic growth. To know the impact, interviews were conducted from 15 senior leaders of some textile companies. The study used thematic qualitative analysis technique and interpreted interviews using codes and themes, besides secondary data was also use. The findings were aligned that entrepreneurial leaders play a crucial role, however, a lot of efforts required so that true outcomes could be attained. Therefore, some recommendations are suggested in this research which will be helpful for textile companies and their leaders towards building decent workplace and ensuring economic growth.

Genome-wide detection of RNA editing events during the hair follicles cycle of Tianzhu white yak

BackgroundThe hair coat is available for the yak to live in the harsh environment of the plateau. Besides, improving the hair production of yak is necessary for its textile industry development. Hair grows from hair follicles (HFs). The HFs undergo periodic growth after birth and are regulated by the complex gene regulatory network. However, the molecular mechanism of HFs regeneration in the Tianzhu white yak remains unclear. RNA editing is a post-transcriptional mechanism that regulates gene expression and produces new transcripts. Hence, we investigated the influence of the A-to-I RNA editing events on the HFs cycle of the Tianzhu white yak.ResultsWe finally identified 54,707 adenosine-to-inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing sites (RESs) from RNA sequencing data of the HFs cycle in the Tianzhu white yak. Annotation results showed RESs caused missense amino acid changes in 7 known genes. And 202 A-to-I editing sites altered 23 target genes of 140 microRNAs. A total of 1,722 differential RESs were identified during the HFs cycle of Tianzhu white yak. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis revealed several signaling pathways and GO terms involved skin development, hair growth, and HFs cycle. Such as genes with differential RNA editing levels were significantly enriched in the peroxisome, metabolic pathways, Notch signaling pathway, and PPAR signaling pathway. Besides, the editing sites in HFs development-related genes FAS, APCDD1, WWOX, MPZL3, RUNX1, KANK2, DCN, DSC2, LEPR, HEPHL1, and PTK2B were suggested as the potential RESs involving HFs development.ConclusionThis study investigated the global A-to-I RNA editing events during the HFs cycle of yak skin tissue and expanded the knowledge of A-to-I RNA editing on the HFs cycle. Furthermore, this study revealed that RNA editing-influenced genes may regulate the HFs cycle by participating in the HFs development-related pathways. The findings might provide new insight into the regulation of RNA editing in hair growth.

Environmental assessment of fabric wet processing from gate-to-gate perspective: Comparative study of weaving and materials

Textile industry has yet to be developed beyond low efficiency, high resources consumption, and toxic emissions, with wet processing process a dominant contributor to resources consumption and pollution emissions. Recognition of the environmental impact of the representative wet processing is essential to achieve eco-friendly development of textile industry. Using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), this study addressed the environmental impacts of wet processing of woven/knitted cotton and polyester fabrics from 4 textile enterprises in China by deploying gate to gate system boundary. One ton of grey cloth was chosen as the functional unit. Eighteen midpoint impact categories and three endpoint impact categories were assessed via ReCiPe 2016 v1.1 (H) method. The results indicated “dyeing unit” as the dominant unit for all the impact categories at the midpoint, which was mainly derived from electricity consumed by cotton wet processing and detergents used in polyester wet processing. Among 4 different fabric wet processing, woven polyester wet processing exhibited the highest impact, while the least impact was assigned to knitted cotton. In the midpoint categories of water use, dyeing unit was also the major contributor in wet processing of knitted cotton (41.20 m3) and knitted polyester (44.70 m3). Pretreatment accounted for an overwhelming percentage of water use in woven cotton (48.00 %) and woven polyester (56.00 %). Woven polyester wet processing was also the most energy-intensive and resource-consuming industry among all scenarios, with a 3.37-fold higher fossil resource scarcity per ton of fabric compared with woven cotton. The results recommend measures for cleaner production in the wet processing.

Products distribution and sulfur fixation during the pyrolysis of CaO conditioned textile dyeing sludge: Effects of pyrolysis temperature and heating rate

Textile dyeing sludge (TDS) is a typical industrial solid waste whose amount surged with the textile industry's development. Pyrolysis treatment is a promising technique for TDS to realize harmless disposal and resource reuse. However, the high content of organic compounds would cause sulfurous pollutants emission, reducing the economic feasibility during pyrolysis. This study aimed to fill the knowledge gaps about the thermal behavior, products distribution, kinetics, and sulfur transformation during TDS pyrolysis in 350–575 ℃ with the heating rate of 60, 600, and 6000 ℃/min, then investigate the sulfur fixation effect of CaO under representative conditions (350 ℃, 650 ℃ with 60 ℃/min, 6000 ℃/min). The primary decomposition stage of TDS is observed in 127–557 ℃, following the Avrami-Erofeev (n = 3) model, while the activation energy presents a convergent tendency with the increased heating rate. The pyrolysis temperature and heating rates impact the cracking of organic compounds, while a weakening effect is found for the sulfur distribution. CaO addition could efficiently realize sulfur fixation in char by absorbing sulfurous gas products, but SO2 escape appeared with the increased CaO fraction. Pyrolysis condition at 650 ℃-60 ℃/min with 10 wt% CaO addition is recommended to achieve high sulfur retention, and the sulfur transformation mechanism in char during the TDS pyrolysis with and without CaO is proposed. Our findings provide novel and fundamental insights into the efficient disposal and pollution control during TDS pyrolysis.

Effects of pyrolysis temperature and impregnation ratio on adsorption kinetics and isotherm of methylene blue on corn cobs activated carbons

The rapid development of textile industries in developing countries has resulted in enormous dye waste, which remains problematic in some areas due to the lack of advanced technology. Adsorption appears as an efficient method for treating dye waste, which often relates to the use of conventional activated carbons produced from non-renewable sources such as coal. On the other hand, biomass is greatly available in developing countries and represents as a cheaper carbon source in the production of activated carbon for dye waste treatment. This research addresses the potential of corn cobs as the raw material of activated carbon, where the synthesis of corn cob-derived activated carbon consists of chemical impregnation by phosphoric acid into corn cobs followed by the pyrolysis process at varied impregnation ratios and temperatures. The experiment showed that the development of pores was enhanced by increasing the pyrolysis temperature but heating beyond 550 °C may cause the pores to collapse. Besides, the optimum impregnation ratio was found to be 4.5:1 as the adsorption kinetics ceased to improve at higher ratio. In addition, the adsorption kinetics were well represented by the pseudo-second-order kinetics model, whereas further investigation revealed that intra-particle step existed but did not control the adsorption process. Moreover, multilayer adsorption is implied by the good agreement of the adsorption data with the Freundlich isotherm.

The community need and interest which are getting higher towards fashion world make fashion in the world develop rapidly. Fashion world development influences women one of which in party fashion. Party is one of events that usually carries certain fashion either formal or semi formal, until it is not surprising that women dress and choose clothes carefully. Many party fasion worn by community with various types of materials but they do not have their own typical yet. It can be seen from the emergence of party fashion design that is mostly offered in the market. Based on the phenomenon developing in the community and the development of textile industry especially in Bali then it is necessary to create certain innovation in creating party fasion made of Bali traditional textile namely by using Bali endek woven fabric. The methods used were observation, interview, and literature study. This creation aims to preserve and protect Bali endek cloth that is a creative cultural heritage of Bali community and this research aimed to improve the economy and prosperity of Bali community. Besides, innovation of party fashion made of Bali traditional cloth is necessary to produce fashionable clothes.

Quantitative Evaluation of Policy Based on PMC Index Model: A Case Study of China’s Textile Industry Policy

The intelligence information collection and analysis of textile industry policy, scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of the textile industry policy, and formulation scientific policy optimization path have practical significance to promote the development of textile industry. China’s textile and apparel exports are the largest in the world, and the healthy development of China’s textile industry not only promotes China’s economic development but also greatly affects the development of the world textile industry. However, most of the existing studies are based on content analysis of high-frequency words in policy texts and lack of quantitative evaluation of textile industrial policies. Based on 126 textile industry policy texts published from 2014 to 2020, this paper innovatively combines the grounded theory with the PMC index model to construct a policy effectiveness measurement index with the characteristics of the textile industry. Ten textile industry policy samples are selected to empirically study the PMC index policy evaluation model of textile industry policy effectiveness. Furthermore, using PMC curved surface to visualize the internal structure of textile industry policy and the measurement results of policy effectiveness. The results show that the average PMC index of 10 textile industry policy samples is 4.31, which is excellent. From the PMC scores of the nine primary variables of the sample, the content and functions of China’s textile industry policy formulation are relatively scientific and comprehensive. However, the policy nature and decision-making subject are single, and the incentive guarantee is relatively weak, which needs to be further improved. The quantitative evaluation of China’s textile industry policy provides a scientific basis for improving the content and effectiveness of the textile industry policy. This investigation offers a fresh perspective on policy evaluation research of other industries.

Total factor productivity and convergence of China’s textile industry

The scale of China’s textile industry has grown to be the largest in the world with massive factor input. There is a strong demand China’s textile industry, and as a traditional industry, should improve total factor productivity (TFP) to realize technology-driven and sustainable development. TFP is a commonly used indicator to measure the level of technological progress. But regional textile industry development in China is seriously unbalanced and regional TFP is quite different from each other. It is worthwhile to estimate the textile industry TFP of China and different regions, analyse the changing trend and test for their convergences. This paper firstly uses the nonparametric DEA-Malmquist index method to measure and analyse the TFP and its evolution of China’s textile industry during 2007–2018 at the nation, region and province levels. Then it uses the coefficient of variation to test for σ-convergence of China’s and regional textile industry TFP. It also constructs an absolute β-convergence regression equation and panel data model, respectively to test for absolute β-convergence and conditional β-convergence and determine whether the TFP of each region will also converge to its own steady-state or not. The research results help explore the future development model of China’s textile industry and provide corresponding policy suggestions for the upgrading and sustainable development of the industry.

Analysis of the Impact of Industrial Land Price Distortion on Overcapacity in the Textile Industry and Its Sustainability in China

At present, China is faced with a situation of unbalanced regional economic development. The report of the 19th session of the national congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that we should accelerate the implementation of the strategy of coordinated regional development. However, this study finds that, in the process of “leaving the cage and changing birds”, the number of enterprises in the textile industry in the eastern region has risen again, which, in turn, has led to overcapacity and has seriously affected the sustainable development of the textile industry. The present study finds that the increasingly distorted price of industrial land is the root cause of the “surge phenomenon” of enterprises in the textile industry and overcapacity. Therefore, China’s central government should be fully aware of the negative impact of the distorted price of industrial land on the sustainable development of textile industry. Efforts must be made to solve the problems of the excessive influx of textile enterprises, overcapacity, and unsustainability in the eastern region in three aspects. Specifically, the land transfer procedure should be standardized, the motivation of local governments’ land attracting investment should be curbed, and the introduction of high-quality enterprises should be paid attention to.

An innovative hollow fiber vacuum membrane distillation-crystallization (VMDC) coupling process for dye house effluent separation to reclaim fresh water and salts

The discharge of dyeing wastewater has become one of the important restrictive factors for the green manufacturing and sustainable development of textile industry. Realizing the maximum reuse of dyeing wastewater resources is an efficient solution. Vacuum membrane distillation crystallization (VMDC) coupling process can separate and recover the components such as fresh water and salts (mordants) in dyeing wastewater as well as achieve the concentration of the valuable substances (dyes) simultaneously. In this study, hollow fiber VMDC coupling process was developed for the treatment of saline dye solution to recover the inorganic salt (mordant Al(NO3)3) and fresh water while realize the high-multiple concentration of dyes (Congo red, CR). High-performance hydrophobic PVDF hollow fiber porous membrane was prepared by the dry-jet wet-spinning technique and used in the VMDC process. The VMDC process in one cycle was optimized, including MD section, crystallization and membrane cleaning process. Variations of MD separation performance including permeate water flux and solute rejection of PVDF hollow fiber membrane for CR and Al(NO3)3 with operating time was determined by the vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) experiment. A three-cycle VMDC process was developed and the variations of MD separation performance and crystal yield in each VMDC cycle were investigated. In each VMDC process, the rejection of CR and Al (NO3) 3 by hollow fiber MD can be maintained above 99%. With the extension of VMDC operating time, the gradually decreased water flux can be recovered by around 90% through the combined cleaning method of NaOH and absolute ethanol (abs). In the three-cycle of VMDC process, 42.5, 32.5 and 9.8% of water were recovered from the feed solution with a total recovery ratio of 84.8%. In the second and third VMDC cycles, 48.0 and 21.5% of the salts in the saline dye solution were obtained with a total salt recovery ratio of 69.5%. An estimation of economic cost was also made to evaluate the economic feasibility of the proposed MDC process for its practical application. Hollow fiber VMDC coupling process was proved to be a simultaneously efficient separation method of saline dye solution.

Research on the Development of Textile Industry in Shandong Province Based on Input-Output Model

Based on the latest input-output table of Shandong Province in 2017, the quantitative research analysis of industrial association was conducted on the total output, direct and complete consumption coefficients, industrial ripple effects, cross-correlation analysis and industrial types of the textile industry in Shandong Province using the input-output analysis method, and the research results show that the focus should be on the three industries of chemical products, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery products and textile, clothing, footwear, leather and down and their products. At the same time, the development of textile industry can promote and pull the development of these three industries, so as to promote the development of the overall economy of Shandong Province.

Перспективы развития текстильной промышленности Узбекистана и возможности увеличения экспортного потенциала

The introduction of continuous forms of organization of production was identified as a priority for textile enterprises as the most important condition and source of measures for the development of the country's textile industry and the production of export-oriented products. In this regard, the article examines some of the problems of the formation of a modern competitive national textile industry in the Republic of Uzbekistan. And on this basis, priorities were developed for the development of the textile industry for the medium term.
