Deploying SMS Gateway in the Design and Development of Web and Mobile Academic Information Systems using the Waterfall Method

: The integration of technology in various sectors, beyond its common application in the gaming industry, has extended to the field of education. This evolution mandates parallel progress in academic institutions to keep pace with technological developments. A significant challenge identified was the reliance on manual accounting methods at SMAN 1 Kejobong, which includes teacher management, staff, and assistant administration, as well as processing student learning data. Outdated practices often lead to inaccuracies and inefficiencies, resulting in time-consuming data collection and potential losses for all stakeholders. To overcome this problem, it is proposed to implement a comprehensive information system or e-learning platform. However, the implementation of e-learning in educational institutions often encounters obstacles due to user discomfort or incompatibility with the institution's needs. This study validated all system features through Black box Testing and user satisfaction assessments, resulting in an average satisfaction level of 73.7%. The expected outcome is increased efficiency and accuracy in academic processes and student management, thereby facilitating a more effective learning and teaching environment.

Development and application of web information system in enterprise management under SSH framework

With the development of information technology in society, many enterprises have set a set of enterprise information management systems for themselves. This paper proposes an Enterprise Management Information System based on the SSH framework for the Web. Firstly, the key technology in Web, Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE), is combined with Spring-Strut-Hibernate (SSH) framework, and a lightweight solution of J2EE Web application is adopted to build a Web application with a clear structure, good reusability, and easy maintenance in a short period. The functional design and development process of the information system is explored and studied in detail, and computer software design and development technologies, tools, and methods are used to build an information solution for the enterprise project management business. The internal functions of the system are divided into project planning, implementation, suspension, change, evaluation, and result management, which can provide information technology tools to support the enterprise project management business according to its actual content and management mode. All key information of this system is stored in the database, and the database tables can be divided into system-like tables and project-like tables according to the design and definition classification. Finally, the implementation of some major functional modules in this system. The integration of the system SSH and the main public functions are implemented, and then the details of how the key functions such as user login, project information filling, and auditing are implemented in the enterprise project management information system, and how the document generation function is implemented after project approval. In this paper, the enterprise management information system performance test showed that the system response time, average occupancy rate of CPU, and memory during the test have reached the expected requirement. The maximum response time of 2.423 seconds, CPU and memory (physical) maximum average occupancy rate of 21.24% and 25.25%, respectively, all conform to the requirements of the performance index.

Vegetation Mapping Information System Model Design Of Tambakrejo Village, Jombang District, Jombang Regency

The need for vegetation mapping is very necessary at this time because it can make it easier for users to find out the types of plants that exist in each village and their coordinates. In Jombang Regency, there is no system that implements this vegetation mapping system. This research designs the development of web and mobile-based information systems. The tools used for modeling this system are Flowcharts, Entity Relationship Diagrams, Data Flow Diagrams. The software used is Adobe XD to create system designs and MySql as a programming language. From the design of the system that will be made, it will produce a web of geographic information system for mapping vegetation in Jombang Regency.

The design and implementation of a campus web information system based on micro-service architecture

In the development of Web information system, the traditional monolithic application architecture is simple and effective for small-scale projects. Because all business logics are combined together in those projects, secondary development and maintenance become very difficult. In recent years, there are methods to solve this problem, which are popular Web distributed architecture solution. The first step of the solution is to separate front-end and back-end of Web system and the second step is to decompose system’s services into micro-services. Micro-service architecture splits application into smaller scale services and each service completes only performs special function. Through service registration centre, micro-service architecture provides unified mechanism of service discovery and registration, it provides unified interfaces for calls from front-end through gateway technology; it protects stability and fault tolerance via back-off mechanism and circuit-breaker mechanism. We have developed a campus Web information system, which adopts two techniques, the separation of front-end and back-end and micro-service architecture By using Spring Cloud framework as back-end developing architecture, the solution of splitting application to micro-services is obtained, and then problems in monolithic application architecture are solved. The high reusability of back-end services is realized and the advantages of micro-service architecture are tested in our system.

Analysis and Practical Application of PHP Frameworks in Development of Web Information Systems

This paper provides various PHP programming framework (CakePHP2, CodeIgniter, Symfony2, Yii and PhalconPHP) popularity overview and comparison using various criteria. Based on the data obtained during the study two frameworks were selected for deeper analysis - Symfony2 and PhalconPHP. This article offers a description of the architecture and main features of selected frameworks (routing, template engine, etc.). During framework comparison a performance test was developed with a goal to determine performance and effectiveness of frameworks during the same task. For performance testing a „Ticket Reserving System” cashier list section was chosen. Tests were performed using ab.exe (Apache Benchmark) tool that comes with the Apache Web server. Based on the comparison results recommendations are made that allow Web developers to choose a framework for creating a real-world Web project. It is planned to expand the developed Web system capabilities using Web services that are based on open standards and protocols (SOAP, XML-RPC, REST, etc.).

Automated design of multi-layered web information systems

In the development of web information systems, design tasks are commonly used in approaches for Model-Driven Web Engineering (MDWE) to represent models. To generate fully implemented prototypes, these models require a rich representation of the semantics for actions (e.g., database persistence operations). In the development of some use case scenarios for the multi-layered development of web information systems, these design tasks may consume weeks of work even for experienced designers. The literature pointed out that the impossibility for executing a software project with short iterations hampers the adoption of some approaches for design in some contexts, such as start-up companies. A possible solution to introduce design tasks in short iterations is the use of automated design techniques, which assist the production of models by means of transformation tasks and refinements. This paper details our methodology for MDWE, which is supported by automated design techniques strictly associated with use case patterns of type CRUD. The novelty relies on iterations that are possible for execution with short time-scales. This is a benefit from automated design techniques not observed in MDWE approaches based on manual design tasks. We also report on previous experiences and address open questions relevant for the theory and practice of MDWE.

Combining MDE and Scrum on the rapid prototyping of web information systems

Rapid application prototyping RAP is recommended to obtain quick feedback from clients, allowing the validation of software requirements before acceptance tests. In this regard, model-driven engineering MDE and agile methods are two important approaches that suggest the use of techniques for RAP. Some fundamental differences between them exist: MDE focuses on software reuse through annotated system models while agile methods recommend the use simpler models to achieve quick feedback from clients. In order to comply with agility principles but still concerned about the future reuse of the developed software, the quick design of annotated models must be considered. This paper presents a MDE-based RAP methodology and tool support to quickly generate web front ends and models based on the MVC architectural pattern. In addition, we report a case study that has joined MDE and Scrum by applying our methodology and tool support for complete development of web information system in a Scrum-based industrial software project. We also present lessons learnt from the case study and point out some issues for future research in software engineering to facilitate the introduction of MDE in target contexts.

A Decade of Model Driven Web Services Composition Frameworks

Now a day, enterprises are implementing their Web Information Systems using Service Oriented Architecture. SOA applications are basically composition of services. To accomplish a business activity, these services are composed using services composition languages/standards, which define the execution order of services invocations and their interaction patterns. Services composition is a very complex process consist of several phases or steps and further subdivided into sub-process and sub-steps. Over the past decade, many researchers have come up with their proposed services composition frameworks consisting of different phases and steps and the whole life cycle is defined. Mostly these frameworks are using the Model Driven Software Development approach to develop Web Information Systems and UML is used as a modelling language for business process modelling. Later on system artefacts are automatically generated from these models. In this study, a survey is presented showing the progress made by these researchers in the area of service composition and discusses different services composition frameworks presented by the most prominent researchers for the development of Web Information Systems.

For more than twenty years, we are witnesses to novel approaches, intense development and continuous deployment of Web Information Systems that by now empower nearly all aspects of daily life. The fast-paced advancement of the Web and its supporting systems and tools have been assisted by efficient methods for accessing data placed in aggregations of web-servers, databases, and collections, by novel techniques for the provision of highavailability for data, and finally, by policies for the orderly operation of the co-existing and collaborative virtual ecosystems. Global virtual communities are being formed on the web and systems and tools supporting their operations constitute a vibrant and rather rich source for both contemporary research and development on the World-Wide Web. The WISE series of Conferences have provided for almost fifteen years a global forum in which novel ideas and proposals are disseminated. The 13th International Conference of Web Information Systems Engineering (WISE’12) was held in Paphos, Cyprus in November 2012. The conference attracted 194 submissions of which 44 were finally presented. In this special issue, we offer extended versions of selected works from the WISE’12 conference. Six papers make up this issue of the World Wide Web Journal and examine a diverse range of topics in contemporary Web research. Innovation in Stem Cell Advocacy: You Only Get What You Can Measure

We propose that stem cell advocacy must engage in self-analysis to determine how to be maximally effective. For this analysis, eight advocacy elements can be measured: agitation, legislation, regulation, litigation, policy development, collaboration, education and innovation. For several of these elements, we show that stem cell advocates, particularly advocates for human embryonic stem cell research, have been matched by their opponents. This demonstrates the need for combining innovation and collaboration with advocacy-oriented education. To pursue innovative and collaborative education, we propose a 'bench-to-public knowledge' model and present some preliminary observations made with this model for different stem cell types. We also propose development of a semantic web information system to be operated within Internet Cloud/Apps/Social Media. We call this system the 'Stem Cell Information Technology Accelerator Platform'. Toward its construction, we propose formation of a working group to conceive semantic web ontology for stem cell science and its clinical translation into medicine. This ontology would function as a map of the relationships between and among the various informational components comprising discourse on stem cell research and its clinical translation, and would allow various stakeholders to contribute to evolving models of that science and translation. These models could, in turn, support an innovative and collaborative approach to education in furtherance of stem cell advocacy.

Using weaving models to automate model-driven web engineering proposals

Model-Driven Web Engineering is a new approach for Web Information Systems development whose basic assumption is the consideration of models as first-class entities. Basically, each step of the process consists of a model transformation that generates one or more target models from one or more source models. However, the special nature of the behavioural models implied at the early stages of a Model-Driven Web Engineering process complicates the specification of a model transformation that works for any input model. In such situations, it is not feasible to automate the whole development process since some design decisions have to be considered before executing each transformation. This work shows how we solve this problem in SOD-M, a model-driven approach for the development of Service-Oriented Web applications. The technique proposed is based on the use of weaving models as annotation models and it can be easily generalised to other domains and contexts.

Toward UML-Compliant Semantic Web Services Development

The emerging Semantic Web and, in particular, Semantic Web services (SWS), demands the inclusion of new components in applications involving this technology. Therefore, Web development methodologies must be tailored to support the systematic development of such new components. In previous works we presented a UML profile, which extends the SOD-M method for service oriented Web Information System development of the MIDAS model-driven framework, to address the development of Semantic Web Services using WSMO (Web Service Modeling Ontology). The UML profile allows for the modeling of the new elements required by WSMO Web Services. This article focuses on studying the possibility of improving the proposed UML profile, including the OCL (Object Constraint Language), for the representation of WSMO logical axioms through three case studies. This would allow developers, whose knowledge does not extend beyond UML, to develop applications that use Semantic Web services.

WESONet: Applying semantic web technologies and collaborative tagging to multimedia web information systems

The publication of different media types, like images, audio and video in the World Wide Web is getting more importance each day. However, searching and locating content in multimedia sites is challenging. In this paper, we propose a platform for the development of multimedia web information systems. Our approach is based on the combination between semantic web technologies and collaborative tagging. Producers can add meta-data to multimedia content associating it with different domain-specific ontologies. At the same time, users can tag the content in a collaborative way. The proposed system uses a search engine that combines both kinds of meta-data to locate the desired content. It will also provide browsing capabilities through the ontology concepts and the developed tags.

Model Transformations for Development of Object-Relational Databases

In this work we present an approach for Object-Relational (OR) Database (DB) Development in the framework of MIDAS, a model driven methodology for the development of Web Information Systems. In our proposal, the Platform Independent Model (PIM) is the conceptual data model. Starting from the PIM we obtain the Platform Specific Model (PSM), that is the OR model. Since in both cases the used notation is UML, the proposal includes also the corresponding UML profiles to represent the OR models (one for the SQL:2003 standard and another one for an specific product, Oracle 10g) This paper focuses on the formalization of the PIM to PSM mappings. In this way, we define the model transformations needed to obtain the DB schema (OR model) from the conceptual data model (PIM), first as rules defined in natural language to later express them by means of graph grammars.

A database for medical image management

MEDIMAN (Medical Image MANagement) is a web information system (WIS) for medical image management and processing currently used by neuroscientists and clinicians at several medical and research centres in Spain for research and clinical trials. While developing the MEDIMAN database (DB) we encountered several design challenges unlike those arising in traditional DBs. This paper describes the development of MEDIMAN focusing on the database and the use of the database development process proposed in Midas, a model-driven framework for WIS development. Special attention is given to the design decisions made at each stage to address the challenges encountered.

Model driven development of secure XML databases

In this paper, we propose a methodological approach for the model driven development of secure XML databases (DB). This proposal is within the framework of MIDAS, a model driven methodology for the development of Web Information Systems based on the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) proposed by the Object Management Group (OMG) [20]. The XML DB development process in MIDAS proposes using the data conceptual model as a Platform Independent Model (PIM) and the XML Schema model as a Platform Specific Model (PSM), with both of these represented in UML. In this work, such models will be modified, so as to be able to add security aspects if the stored information is considered as critical. On the one hand, the use of a UML extension to incorporate security aspects at the conceptual level of secure DB development (PIM) is proposed; on the other, the previously-defined XML schema profile will be modified, the purpose being to incorporate security aspects at the logical level of the secure XML DB development (PSM). In addition to all this, the semi-automatic mappings from PIM to PSM for secure XML DB will be defined.

The concept of web event and a practical model‐driven approach to web information system development

This article proposes the concept of web clientserver event together with its associated taxonomy which yields a formal specification for such an event. The concept, in conjunction with the concept of atomic use case (reviewed in the article), is then used as a key element for a model‐driven approach to web information system development. The outcome is a new method for web information systems development that reduces the complex web‐based hypermedia navigation behaviour to a much simpler event‐driven behaviour. On the strength of that realized simplicity, the method provides (i) a set of platform‐independent models that completely characterizes the application, and (ii) a well‐defined process to map the combined model to any chosen platform‐dependent implementation.
