Tangible or intangible satisfiers? Comparative study of visitor satisfaction in a nature-based tourism destination in the pre- and during-COVID pandemic

Nature-based destinations started to become objects of travel for various visitor segments during the COVID-19 pandemic. The changing environment and the travel conditions influence overall visitor satisfaction and its determinants. This study identifies the role of tangible and intangible factors in forming overall visitor satisfaction with a stay in a nature-based tourism destination and their changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A Generalized Linear Model with a logit link function was used to identify the significant satisfiers and to determine the factors that play a critical role in visitor satisfaction in the during-COVID era compared to the pre-COVID period. The results show that intangible satisfiers play a more significant role than tangible ones in the COVID time. Surprisingly, natural features are insignificant in explaining overall satisfaction at a nature-based destination in the during-COVID in comparison with the pre-COVID period. In contrast, active sports options have become a significant satisfier in the COVID era. This comparison results contribute to the current theory, and the findings indicate the practical implications for Destination Management Organisations regarding sustainable tourism development. Management implications•Destination Management Organisations (DMO) in nature-based destinations should become more conscious of changing visitor structures concerning destination satisfaction.•DMOs could focus more on promoting activities such as active sports options and tourism infrastructure than natural features regarding current visitor preferences; however, sustainability should be a fundamental goal of competitive tourism destinations.•There is a need to carefully deal with the expanding tourism infrastructure development and prevent uncontrolled growth of commercial activities and attractions that would act against the interests of residents and endanger the value of the natural environment.•DMOs should educate the changing visitors about the importance of responsible tourism.•DMOs should focus on environmental-friendly activities which do not negatively impact nature in terms of using land and natural areas for commercial activities and construction.•DMOs should make efforts to attract their environmental sensitive pre-COVID visitors and target new segments searching for health and sustainability, such as the Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) segment and the Free Independent Travellers (FIT).

ANALYSIS OF CONSUMERS' ATTITUDES TOWARDS THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOURISM SECTOR IN THE LITHUANIA REGIONS

In the article, the author analyzes the attitude of consumers towards the sustainable development of the tourism sector in the Lithuania regions. The purpose of the research is to analyze the attitude of consumers towards the sustainable development of the tourism sector in the Lithuania regions. During the research, a quantitative survey (questionnaire survey) was conducted. Data collection methods - analysis of scientific literature and sources, document analysis, questionnaire survey. The article analyzes the consumers' attitude towards the sustainable development of the tourism sector from a theoretical point of view and presents the results of the conducted research. It is concluded that the respondents consider the following factors of sustainable development of the tourism sector to be the most important: development of ecological tourism; accessibility of tourism; creation of tourist routes accessible to all; certification of tourism services; development of the common national route and development of bicycle tourism infrastructure, etc. According to the respondents, the following problems of sustainable development of the tourism sector are usually encountered: economic problem: insufficient investments in the development of sustainable tourism; lack of knowledge about the essence and principles of sustainable tourism in local politics; underdeveloped tourism sector infrastructure, etc.

Optimizing tourist flows through operative carrying capacity assessment: The case of Bakkhali coastal tourism, W.B., India

<p>Carrying capacity assessment of nature-based tourist destinations is important for keeping the consumption of natural resources and anthropogenic pollution levels within environmentally safe and sustainable limits. With the mostly rural character of such destinations, the local community's well-being also needs to be prioritized. Exposure to natural hazards and climate crises have further exacerbated concerns about the long-term sustainability of these locations. The interrelationship between tourism intensity and its impacts clearly reflects in Butler’s Tourism Area Life Cycle model of 1980. The ‘elements of capacity’ and their ‘critical range’ mark a significant threshold in the model that leads us to the concept of Carrying Capacity. The capacity may be physical, spatial, ecological, environmental, social, economic, management, and governance, among others. This is also linked with the quality of touristic experience and satisfaction. In this context, aiming to understand the optimum level of tourist traffic flow in Bakkhali, one of the popular beach destinations of the deltaic island system of the Indian Sundarbans, this study assesses its visitor carrying capacity at three levels—physical, real, and effective. It also briefly introduces the idea of ‘operative’ carrying capacity at the fourth level. The study is based on tourist data till 2019 and adopts the well-established methodological framework of carrying capacity assessment applied widely in several settings. The result suggests that tourism operations at Bakkhali may optimally handle 2040 visitors per day, which may be stretched to a maximum of 2267 visitors per day. This may be used as baseline information for sustainable coastal tourism policy framing in long term while planning for tourism management and infrastructure development in the Sundarban region in immediate terms.</p>

Dating of avalanches in Pirin mountains in Bulgaria by tree-ring analysis of Pinus peuce and Pinus heldriechii trees

Snow avalanches are among the most important disturbances in mountain ecosystems. The effects of avalanches on the endemic Pinus heldreichii and Pinus peuce forests in the Pirin Mountains in Bulgaria are poorly understood. These forests are among the few remaining old-growth forests with preserved natural dynamics in Europe. However, the ongoing development of tourist infrastructure at the borders of some of the best-preserved Pinus heldreichii and Pinus peuce forests close to Bansko ski resort leads to increased tourist pressure. Many backcountry skiers and snowboarders venture beyond the resort boundaries, practicing their activities in these forests and avalanche tracks and couloirs within them. The objective of our study was to collect tree-ring cores from Pinus peuce and Pinus heldreichii trees affected by avalanches and verify the specific types of damages and tree responses characteristic for the species and region. Then using the collected data, we aimed at reconstructing the years in which specific areas were affected by avalanches and in this way obtain data on the magnitude of larger events. Our study shows that large magnitude avalanches (LMA) in the vicinity of Bansko ski resort in the Pirin Mountains in Bulgaria occurred dozens of times in the 20th century. On average the period between LMAs ranged between 9 and 20 years with the shortest period between two such events in one couloir being 2 years. Avalanches affected forests high on the couloir banks and left traces in the tree rings related to the mechanical impact that snow avalanches had on the surviving trees. In the studied tree-ring cores of Pinus peuce and Pinus heldreichii the most informative types of responses were sharp growth suppressions, including missing rings, followed by reaction wood and in less cases visible scars and callus tissue. Our data for frequent large avalanches shows that is necessary to address the avalanche risk with high priority especially for the Palashica couloir, which directly threatens the lower parts of the ski runs as well as other facilities in Bansko ski resort.

Issues of Ecological Tourism Development on the Territory of Pribaikalye

Over the past few years, Russians' interest in domestic tourism has been steadily growing. This trend is due not only to external factors, but also to the initiatives of the Russian Government and governors implemented at the federal and regional levels. Tourism is becoming a strategic resource for the development of the Russian economy. The article gives examples of regions that are leaders in eco-tourism, demonstrates data confirming the development of tourism in Russian regions. Irkutsk region is characterized by the richness of flora and fauna, diversity of specially protected natural areas (SPNA). Protected areas are represented by two federal reserves (Baikal-Lensky and Vitimsky), Pribaikalsky National Park, two wildlife sanctuaries (Tofalarsky and Krasny Yar). Also in the Irkutsk region there is a part of the territory subject to protection — Lake Baikal World Natural Heritage Site. The ecosystems of protected areas are fragile in their structure, and serious interference in their structure can lead to destruction and death. Therefore, it is important to strike a balance between the development of tourism infrastructure and the preservation of natural heritage. In the world practice ecological tourism is a tool that allows designing modern ecological centers of international scale. This issue is particularly relevant for Pribaikalsky Krai; a number of documents at the federal and regional levels have identified the development of eco-tourism as one of the priority directions. In this context, it is very important to find such tools and mechanisms that will allow to preserve the environment for future generations, since the influx of tourists not only brings profit, but also leaves behind unfavorable consequences for the environment.

Dampak Investasi Asing di Pulau Komodo

Komodo Island, as Indonesia's famous tourism destination, has attracted foreign investment which has the potential to influence the economic, social and environmental sectors. This investment brings benefits in the form of opening jobs, increasing local community income, and developing tourism infrastructure. However, the impact also creates economic disparities between local and foreign workers, as well as social problems related to cultural interactions and local community access to the benefits of tourism. Meanwhile, developing tourist infrastructure also threatens the Komodo dragon habitat and the Komodo Island ecosystem. Therefore, mitigation measures are needed to ensure foreign investment supports sustainable development and preservation of the Komodo Island ecosystem. This research uses a literature review method which involves analysis from various sources such as scientific journals, books, reports and articles related to the impact of foreign investment on Komodo Island. This research aims to analyze the impact of foreign investment on Komodo Island on the economic, social and environmental sectors. The research focus includes discussing the economic impact through opening jobs and increasing income, the social impact related to cultural interactions, and the environmental impact of tourism infrastructure development.

Changes in the physiognomy of the archaeological landscape - learning from the past to build the future (with prehistorical burial sites in Poland as an example)

The aims of this research were to identify the key processes that have occurred in the past that have caused changes in the physiognomy of archaeological landscape and to indicate possible future processes, along with their landscape implications. The study was based on cartographic and literature studies, and field visits. It covered an analysis of the land cover, the history of archaeological research, the establishment of forms of legal protection and tourist infrastructure development. The past changes are visualised for each site in theform of a block graph. Possible future scenarios with landscape implications are presented on a tree diagram.

Ноономическая модель развития регионального туризма

In the context of a complicated geopolitical situation and with a certain change in the possibilities of human movement in space, a subconscious, but later conscious increase in a person's desire to travel occurs at the first stages, expanding the space around them to obtain new positive emotional sensations. The active development of domestic tourism provides for the need to choose a conceptual approach in prioritizing the orientation of the tourism industry market. The classical approach to the development of regional tourism is focused on the development of tourist infrastructure and the promotion of a differentiated competitive tourist product. The Sverdlovsk region, traditionally known for promoting industrial and business tourism, is entering the next stage of tourism development in the region, which allowed it to move from 10th place in 2022 in the ranking of sustainable development of tourism and the hospitality industry in the subjects of the Russian Federation to 6th place in 2023. Currently, a new, non-economic model of regional tourism development is being formed, aimed at meeting the needs of each individual tourist and subsequently increasing the tourist flow and income to the region as a result of the current prolonged effect of new travel experiences. At the same time, when choosing a travel product, a person is based on his sensory perception and the possibility of receiving positive emotions. The priority is to meet the needs, then increase the tourist flow and income from tourism.

Uticaj bioklimatskih uslova planine Zlatibor na zdravstveni turizam

Introduction: Bioclimatic conditions are of great importance for all forms of tourism, especially for health tourism, as they should encompass therapeutic and prophylactic characteristics. Over the last three decades, tourism in Zlatibor has been continuously growing in terms of tourist numbers and the development of tourist infrastructure. This paper presents the bioclimatic and climatic conditions on Mount Zlatibor from the perspective of their impact on tourism. More precisely, it examines their influence on tourist movements on this mountain and their significance for the development of health tourism. Materials and Methods: Research data were obtained through the analysis of temperature, air pressure, humidity, insolation, and precipitation levels. Based on these data, physiological equivalent temperature (PET) values and the universal thermal climate index (UTCI) were calculated. Results: The obtained results of bioclimatic indices (PET and UTCI) indicate potential stress due to extreme cold in the mornings and evenings from late October to the second decade of March. Pleasant warmth prevails during the summer months in the mornings and evenings. In terms of health, the climate of Zlatibor is suitable for maintaining health, as well as for treating various lung diseases, anemia, heart and blood vessel disorders, especially thyroid disorders. Bioclimatic conditions closely correlate with tourist movements on Zlatibor, as evidenced by climate data and the results obtained from PET and UTCI calculations. Conclusion: Comparing tourist numbers over a five-year period reveals that bioclimatic conditions significantly influence Zlatibor's peak tourist season, which occurs during the summer months. This period offers the most favorable bioclimatic conditions, attracting the highest number of visitors to the mountain, especially those seeking health and recreational activities.

The article delves into the intricate concept of tourist attractiveness, exploring the diverse array of elements that contribute to the attractiveness of a specific destination, place, or object for travelers. It comprehensively reviews existing methodologies for identifying and defining the constituent factors that shape overall tourist appeal, considering both broad perspectives and more nuanced categories such as destination attractiveness or allure of specific types of tourism. The outcome of this study is a meticulous examination of the components comprising tourism attractiveness, organized into distinct categories encompassing nature, culture and heritage, tourism infrastructure, sustainability, digitalization and broader tourism development, sports and entertainment, as well as hospitality and local communities.

ПІДВИЩЕННЯ КОНКУРЕНТОСПРОМОЖНОСТІ ТУРИСТИЧНОГО БІЗНЕСУ УКРАЇНИ

The purpose of the article is to develop directions for improving the competitiveness of the tourism business in Ukraine and to analyze the problems that complicate the formation and development of strategic, socio-cultural potential and human capital. The main components of the tourism business, which includes a wide range of activities aimed at meeting the needs and wishes of tourists (tourist accommodation facilities, transportation services, travel agencies and tour operators, restaurants, cafes and other catering establishments, entertainment and cultural services, recreation and health services, shops and souvenir shops, etc), are highlighted. In the context of the war, Ukraine's tourism business faces several serious challenges that complicate the formation and development of its strategic potential: instability, deteriorating image, reduced investment, loss of infrastructure, and social and economic problems. The main negative factors affecting the formation and development of human capital, which is one of the key components of the tourism sector's success, are security, employee migration, lack of qualifications, decreased demand for labour, and the psychological state of employees. The socio-cultural potential has a particularly significant impact on the efficiency and competitiveness of the tourism business, as it reflects cultural values, readiness for change, and other aspects that may affect the perception and distribution of tourism products. The main problems of socio-cultural potential development include a decline in cultural activity, damage to historical and cultural monuments, loss of cultural heritage, a decline in cultural tourism, changes in cultural stereotypes, and a decrease in investment in cultural development. The main areas for improving the competitiveness of Ukraine's tourism business include the development of tourism infrastructure, improving the quality of tourism services, promoting Ukraine in the global tourism market, creating a favourable environment for tourism development, and developing new types of tourism. Solving these problems requires a comprehensive approach and joint efforts of the government, an international coalition, industry organizations and the public.

Совершенствование транспортной системы и перспектива развития туризма в Республике Алтай

Introduction. The Altai Republic is a mountainous region of the Russian Federation with a unique nature and a large number of attractions. Here, in recent years, the tourism sector has been actively developing; the annually increasing tourist flow (2021 - about 2.2 million people, 2022 - 2.5 million people) requires studying the relationship of the transport system with the tourism infrastructure and scientific substantiation of the prospects development of tourism activities in general. Materials and methods. The research is based on a combination of frame and route approaches to identify the territorial features of tourism development. The framework approach forms the basis of spatial planning methodology. The supporting framework of the region, as a linear-nodal structure of the territorial and functional relationship between its elements, gives the most complete picture of the organization of tourism in the region. Results. Transport accessibility largely determines the localization of the main tourist complexes and the prospects for implementing projects to create tourist infrastructure. In the region, a large volume of road construction was implemented within the framework of the regional program “Increasing the volume of construction and reconstruction of highways of the Altai Republic in the period 2015 - 2022.” However, most of the roads are adjacent to the federal highway R-256 (Chuysky tract); therefore the republic is characterized by a predominance of linear-radial routes. The use of the frame approach as a methodological basis for the study made it possible to identify the main linear objects and centers of tourism development on the territory of the Altai Republic. In combination with the route approach, an analysis of the distribution of the spatial configuration of the main route network was carried out across the region. This made it possible to identify opportunities for the development of ring structures, which will become a prospect for the development of the tourist network. Conclusion. Based on differences in natural resources, intensity of traffic flows, and features of tourist infrastructure, three sections of the Chuisky tract were identified. At each of these sites, key attractors have been identified that are places of disparagement for tourists and investors. Resume. We have identified prospects for circular routes that will contribute to the development of tourism infrastructure.

СОВЕРШЕНСТВОВАНИЕ РАЗВИТИЯ ТУРИСТСКОЙ ИНФРАСТРУКТУРЫ РЕГИОНА

The article is devoted to improving the development of tourism infrastructure in the region. The purpose of the study is to analyze the development of tourism infrastructure in the regions, in particular collective accommodation facilities, to identify the advantages and disadvantages of its development, and to trace its overall dynamics. An analysis of literary sources on the research issues in recent years was carried out. The methodological basis was the methods of comparative and calculation-analytical analyses, including the collection and analysis of the main indicators of the development of tourism infrastructure. A SWOT analysis of factors influencing the effectiveness of the development of tourism infrastructure in the regions of the Russian Federation was carried out. Based on the results of the analysis, potential opportunities and threats to its development were identified. Strengths and opportunities were found to outweigh weaknesses and threats. The mechanism for financing the development of tourism infrastructure is described and its effectiveness is analyzed. Recommendations were given to improve the mechanism for financing infrastructure projects, which include optimizing the number of projects in favor of their high-quality execution; establishing high-quality control over budget investments; development of tax breaks for participants in infrastructure projects; the use of PPP mechanisms, allowing businesses to share costs and risks with the state.

TOURIST INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE ARAGATSOTN REGION AND PROSPECTS FOR ITS DEVELOPMENT

The article presents an analysis of the tourist infrastructure of the Aragatsotn region, prospects for the development of the service and the tourist complex. A comparative analysis of tourist flows in other regions of the Republic of Armenia is carried out. The article also presents the possibilities, using which the Aragatsotn region can become one of the leading tourist regions of Armenia. Currently, there are quite high rates of tourism and recreation development throughout the region and especially in the Ashtarak area. Based on this, we have conducted certain studies in the field of tourist infrastructures of both the city of Ashtarak and the region, since this is an important precondition for the development of tourism. Our research aim to identify the features of two important factors in the Aragatsotn region. The first of them is a quantitative characteristic of the flow of tourists, and the second is the level of development of tourist infrastructure. Another important area of research was the analysis of the days spent by tourists. 32 Based on the work done within the framework of this article, it can be stated that the Aragatsotn region has all the conditions for the development of tourism.

PENGEMBANGAN WISATA BAHARI DENGAN PENDEKATAN EKONOMI KREATIF DI KAWASAN PESISIR PANTAI KABUPATEN BONE BOLANGO

This reserch aims to find out and describe the factors that determine tourism development, including in terms of infrastructure, accessibility, community participation and tourist attractions. The data analysis used is an interactive model analysis which consists of three components of analysis namely: 1) Data reduction; 2) Data Presentation; 3) Verify Data and Draw Conclusions. The research results show that: 1) the development of basic tourism infrastructure in the coastal area of Bone Bolango is not sufficient. Basic infrastructure facilities including infrastructure, public facilities and tourism facilities do not meet the standards of the tourism development master plan; 2) tourism accessibility in the Bone Bolango coastal area can improve the quality of life of local residents by creating new jobs. Tourism accessibility is also encouraged to pay attention to environmental impacts such as potential damage to coral reefs and underwater waste so that the role of tourism actors is expected to be sensitive and wise in paying attention to the negative impacts of tourism development; 3) community participation in developing tourism destinations in the Bone Bolango coastal area must be carried out using a variety of approaches including information technology to assist marketing, involving community groups who are vulnerable to having no income, and building partnerships with tourism organizations. This is important because the declining community participation is caused by access to information, the style of community consumerism. For this reason, the regional government of Bone Bolango Regency and the village government need to provide regular assistance to the community to encourage sustainable development through the tourism sector; 4) tourist attractions have a significant impact on economic growth and cultural preservation. Encouraging tourist attractions requires careful planning, collaboration between stakeholders, and long-term commitment. With the right efforts, destinations can increase their attractiveness and attract many tourists, thereby contributing to the development of the local creative economy and the sustainability of tourism. By increasing tourist attractions, especially in rural areas, it can increase the income and welfare of rural residents and help prevent excessive urbanization.

Analysis of the development of tourism and recreation infrastructure in the forest districts of the regional directorate of state forests in Białystok

Forest areas are not only limited to the sale of timber (the economic side), but have many other advantages, such as: influence on climate, humidity, soil protection, health, harvesting of undergrowth, development of tourism and recreation (Gołos & Janeczko, 2001). The aim of the study is to analyse and evaluate the development of tourism and recreation infrastructure in forest districts belonging to the RDSF in Białystok in terms of its accessibility, construction and modernisation. Tourists are reluctant to visit places where such infrastructure does not exist or is neglected (Bański, 2014). This also serves as the main motivation for undertaking this kind of a study. The research used the method of observation, a diagnostic survey with a research questionnaire and a face-to-face interview. Forestry literature and financial and economic reports for the years 2020-2021 were also used. When analysing tourist and recreational infrastructure, it is worth mentioning the source of funds for its construction and modernization since, without financial support, its development would be impossible.

Upaya Menjaga Raja Ampat sebagai Sustainable Tourism Melalui Prinsip Sustainabilty dan Blue Economy

This journal addresses efforts to maintain Raja Ampat as Sustainable Tourism through Sustainability and Blue Economy Principles. Raja Ampat is one of the tourism destinations in Indonesia that needs to maintain its tourism attractiveness while maintaining the surrounding nature. This research presents strategic steps that can be taken to encourage sustainable tourism. The research methodology was conducted through library research, which resulted in the conclusion that to maintain Raja Ampat as sustainable tourism requires the active involvement of local communities, stakeholders and the role of the government. The implementation of this sustainable improvement strategy can be in the form of tourism promotion, infrastructure development and empowerment of local communities.

Tikus Island's Edu Maritime Tourism (Marine Edu Park) Infrastructure Development Strategy

This Study aims to analyse developing a strategy for developing the tourist infrastructure on Tikus Island. Information accessibility was determined to be the priority strategy that was urgently required based on the findings of the analysis performed using AHP. This strategy aims to enhance travellers' overall travel experiences by encouraging them to make educated decisions. Information on marine tourism is essential, especially on a small island like Tikus Island. Second, the accessibility and condition of public restrooms for tourists. Third, the significance of having appropriate transit vessels to accommodate maritime visitors. Fourth, the strategy concentrates on offering suitable lodging choices and amenities for maritime tourists Fifth, it stresses the accessibility of dining establishments geared toward marine tourists. Sixth, it focuses on giving visitors access to sufficient parking. It seeks to address guests' parking requirements when they arrive in private vehicles by providing easy-to-access parking places close to popular tourist attractions. Seventh, highlights the value of having efficient management processes to deal with potential risks and emergencies. Supporting variables were found to have a tourism infrastructure development strategy on Tikus Island. This research explains a lot about the new types of infrastructure that can be applied in the region. The recommendations given have long-term development goals and strategic innovations. The results of this study are beneficial as a reference for sustainable regional development that focuses on increasing the income of coastal communities.
