Development Of Reading Materials Based On Local Wisdom To Support Literacy Activities In Elementary School

This research is related to the feasibility, effectiveness and practicality of developing Local Wisdom-Based Reading Materials to Support Class IV Literacy Activities at SD Negeri 1 Fajar City, South Aceh. This research is development research, namely the 4D model development approach (Four-D model) developed by Thiagarajan. This research was carried out at SD Negeri 1 Kota Fajar. This research was conducted in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The time for this research is planned to be carried out from April 2023 to June 2023. The instruments prepared by the researchers are to determine the Validity, Practicality and Effectiveness of the reading material products created. Research and study of the development process with the 4D model resulted in the conclusion that based on the recapitulation from the Material Validator Expert Team, a percentage of 87.5% was obtained, media experts obtained a percentage of 84% and language experts obtained a percentage of 90%, so the reading material developed by the researcher met the criteria. validity so that it is declared very feasible. Based on the results of the increase in pretest and posttest scores of 27.84, namely from 55.10 and the average posttest score was 82.94, the local wisdom-based reading materials developed can be declared effective in improving student learning outcomes. Furthermore, based on a questionnaire designed to analyze user and teacher reactions to local wisdom-based reading material media to test user practicality, the score obtained was 27 out of a maximum total score of 30 with a percentage of 90%. This means that the practicality of data analysis is very good and can be applied to the learning process.

The The Use of Ecoprocedure Text to Develop the English Reading Materials

This research is the development of reading material for environmental-based learning to read English. This research designed the types of eco-procedure text to develop the English reading. The purpose of this research is the use of eco-procedure text to develop English reading materials. This research uses the method of educational research and development. The step of this research modifies into three development steps which consist of 1) research and collecting data, (2) planning, and (3) developing a preliminary form of the product. The results of the research are The eco procedure text prototypes that have been developed are how to make sepat banang, how to make serune pade, how to make soko Sumbawa, and how to make minyak Sumbawa. Then, the elements analyzed in each of the eco procedure prototypes text are the text structure and the linguistic elements of each text. The conclusion of this research is eco procedure text very useful for learning to read students because the eco procedure text is contextual.

Development of Reading Materials for Teaching Arabic Through Android for Students In Wahid Hashim Islamic Junior High School Balung Jember

In the globalization era, in the 20th century, the development of Information and Communication Technology is very rapid. Even in the educational process, the teacher must be intelligent and able to choose the type of educational material he uses in the teaching and learning process. Educational materials play an essential role in the educational process and have an individual contribution to education, which impacts students. The problem in Wahid Hashim Balung Jember Islamic high school was the lack of unique education materials for reading skills. This study aims: 1) to determine the steps of developing reading materials for teaching Arabic through Android and 2) to determine the effectiveness of teaching reading materials for teaching Arabic through Android. This study uses the model approach proposed by Borg and Gall, and researchers use pre-test and post-test to develop reading materials. The results of this study showed that reading materials using Android developed by researchers effectively improve students ' reading skills.
 في عصر العولمة، قرن 20 أن التطورات في مجال تكنولوجيا المعلومات والإتصالات هي سريعة جدا. حتي في عملية التعليم، ينبغي للمعلم أن يكون ذاكيا وقادرا على اختيار نوع المادة التعليمية التي يستخدمها في عملية التعليم والتعلم. إن المادة التعليمية تؤدي دورا هاما في عملية التعليم ولها إسهامات الفردية في التعليم، وهذا له تأثير على التلاميذ. ومشكلات ما وقعت في المدرسة الثانوية الإسلامية واحد هاشم بالونج جمبر عدم وجود مواد التعليمية خاصة في مهارة القراءة. إن الأهداف من هذا البحث هي: 1) ولمعرفة الخطوات تطوير مادة القراءة لتعليم اللغة العربية عبر أندرويد 2) لمعرفة فعالية تعليم مادة القراءة لتعليم اللغة العربية عبر أندرويد. استخدمت الباحثة منهج البحث والتطوير بالنموذج الذي اقترحه برج وغال، واستخدمت الباحثة الإختبار القبلي والإختبار بعدي في تطوير المادة القراءة. ونتيجة هذه الرسالة هي أن المادة القراءة عبر أندرويد المطورة من الباحثة لها فعالة لترقية مهارة القراءة التلاميذ.

The Effectiveness of Extensive Reading Book (Local Wisdom Based) to Support English Subject at Tanjungpura University

This study aims to develop extensive reading materials based on local wisdom to support English courses at Tanjungpura University. The ADDIE model was used in the development of reading materials in this study. This study's data sources include validation sheets from English material experts, instructional design experts, media and graphic design experts, and small group evaluations of students taking English courses. The method used for data collection is a questionnaire, while the instrument used in collecting accurate data is a Likert scale. The analysis used is a descriptive qualitative analysis and quantitative descriptive analysis. The research results have been developed into extensive reading materials based on local wisdom to support English courses. The study results show that the value of 98.4% was obtained in the validation carried out by material experts, instructional design experts as 86.1%, media or graphic design experts as 92.8%, and 86% based on the results of small group trials. The numbers mean that the developed reading book is suitable for supporting English courses with minor revision.

The research conducted by Research and Development (R & D). It was developed through six stages; 1) Gathering the data & information, 2) Analyzing the data, 3) Designing a new reading materials, 4) Validating by experts, 5) Revising a new reading materials and 6) Final product. It was conducted at SMK Swasta Cerdas Bangsa, the subject of this research was X grade students of Automotive Engineering Study program. The objectives of this study are to investigate the students’ need and to develop the appropriate reading materials for the students. The technique for collecting the data were gathered by administering interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 25 students. The interview was as qualitative data while the questionnaire was a quantitative data.The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English reading materials which is contained the appropriate knowledge or topic with the Automotive Engineering Study program. The developed materials are descriptive text. The three topics of descriptive text have been developed, the topics are about Valentino Rossi, Motorcycle History Museum, and Sillicone Valley. The development of reading materials in descriptive texts are based on Hutchinson and Waters theory through 4 stages, such as; defining objectives, creating the framework, designing the model of reading materials and refining the model of reading materials. The new reading materials are validated by two experts, they are English lecturer and and English teacher. The average scores of validation are 4.3 from English lecturer and 4.2 from English teacher. It can be concluded that the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for tenth grade students of Automotive Engineering Study program Program. Development of Children's Literature Reading Materials to Support SDN 028228 Binjai Student Literacy Activities

This research is motivated by the lack of availability of reading materials for children's literature, reading materials that are not suitable for the age of growth and development of children's psychology, then students have an interest in reading, and reading habits are not yet entrenched, so it is necessary to develop varied reading materials and support students in activities. literacy. Children's literature reading materials are needed at SDN 028228 Binjai to support students' literacy activities. This study aims to determine the results of the development of children's literature reading materials in the form of comics to support literacy activities of SDN 028228 Binjai students. The research method used was research and development (Research and Development) by Borg and Gall. The results showed that (1) The reading material development process was carried out in several stages, namely preliminary studies, initial product development and product testing. (2) The results of the reading material feasibility test show that (a) the result of the material expert's validation on the reading material as a whole is 83.3% with the criteria of "very good". (b) the results of the validation by design experts on the reading material as a whole obtained data 88.3% with "very good" criteria. (c) the results of the overall classroom teacher assessment of the reading material obtained an average of 91% with the criteria "very good" (3) The results of the effectiveness of the development of reading materials show that (a) the results of individual trials on reading materials obtained an average of 79.6% with the criteria "good ", The results of small group trials on reading materials obtained an average of 88.2% with the criteria" very good ", limited field test results on reading materials obtained an average of 90.1% with the criteria" very good ". (b) the results of the quality of using children's literature in the form of comics to support students' literacy activities were obtained an average of 88.65% (posttest), while before the use of children's literature in the form of comics, the average was 68.40% (pretest). The difference in value is 20.25% which means that children's literature reading material in the form of comics can improve the results of students' literacy activities from before. The implications of this research are (1) children's literary reading materials to support students 'literacy activities can increase students' knowledge of North Sumatra folklore; (2) the results of this study can enrich the treasury of science in order to increase creativity in the development of reading materials, especially those related to the development of children's literature reading materials in North Sumatra.

The purpose of this study was to determine: (1) The results of the design of reading materials with coastal culture for literacy sources, (2) The results of expert validation on the design of reading materials containing coastal culture for literacy sources, and ( 3) The results of testing of reading materials with coastal culture. for literacy sources in Class V Elementary School, Pandan, Tapanuli Tengah. This type of research is the type of research development or Research & Development. The development model in this study will be made with a few modifications adapted to the Borg and Gall development procedure. Development research is generally divided into 3 (three) stages, namely the problem identification stage, the design stage, and the dissemination stage. The researcher attempted to adapt the development model to Borg and Gall's development procedures. As subjects in this study are all State and Private Elementary Schools in Pandan, Tapanuli Tengah. As the object of this research, developing reading materials based on the culture of the coastal communities of North Tapanuli Tengah Regency in supporting the School Literacy Movement. The results showed: (1) reading material with Tapanuli Tengah coastal culture is valid for use in the implementation of the school literacy movement in SD Pandan District.

Development of Reading Materials for Multicultural Education With the Topic of Kasada Tradition in Tengger Community (Study of Ethnography at the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park, Jawa Timur)

A very prominent feature of the Tengger community in carrying out their social activities and customs is the attitude of togetherness which is based on harmony and peace. In carrying out their various sacred ceremonies, the spirit of togetherness is crucial to them. Especially in the Kasada ceremony, they enunciate sincerity, joy, mutual cooperation, sacrifice, and other significant attitudes and behaviors indicating their level of dignity as social beings. The ceremony was held by involving all members of the community, men and women, from the elders to the children. It is believed that the Kasada ceremony is an ancestral heritage, in which there are many important values, and is abundant with noble aspects of everyday social life, especially intertwined with their original religion. The approach used in this study is the qualitative-ethnographic model of Spradley The results show: (1)The Kasada ceremonial tradition is a form of ecological adaptation. Over the years, this community has held the ritual, with the intention of fulfilling many interests, particularly maintaining their existence as mountain farmers. (2)This ceremony is a form of local wisdom in answering limited natural challenges, by cultivating the ability and intelligence in preserving nature and integrated social life. (3) Values in the Kasada ceremony tradition include: willing to sacrifice, help each other, implement mutual cooperation, persevere, respect the work of others, balance the past and the future, love for the preservation of nature, and implement social responsibility; (4) Decided sanctions for Kasada ceremony offenders: there are no legal sanctions, but an anomaly is attached to those who avoid the ritual, that actually strengthens their social integration. This happened to some Tengger people who had embraced State religions.

The Development of Reading Materials in School Literacy Movements for Senior High School Students Based on Local Culture of Karo

Literacy has the meaning and implications of basic reading and writing skills to acquire and manipulate knowledge through written texts, from metalinguistic analysis of grammatical units to the structure of oral and written texts. This study deals with the development of reading materials in school literacy movements for senior high school students based on local culture of Karo. The type of this study is development study that is the development of short story text reading materials based on character education as an ingredient in the school literacy movement. This development study refers to the development theory proposed by Borg and Gall. The conclusion of this study is the feasibility of reading material in the school literacy movement for senior high school students based on local culture of Karo is eligible and suitable to be used as reading material, based on the assessment of material experts, and design experts. The results of the assessment based on the responses of teachers and students in the Senior High School 1 of Berastagi concluded that reading material in the school literacy movement for senior high school students based on local culture of Karo had been found to be effective because it met the needs and overall criteria "very good".

Development of Reading Materials Environment-Based in VII Grade Students of Junior High School (SMPN) 1 Kuala, Indonesia

This study aims is to find out the development of reading material by using environment base in Junior High School (SMPN) 1 Kuala. The research study used quantitative method by using sample in VII grade student Data with total 160 students from 5 clasess. The result show multiple intelligences based writing modules is more effective in improving student learning outcomes, this is indicated by the learning outcomes of students who are taught to use a module developed which is higher by 2460 with an average of 76.75% compared to the average value of students using 2220 textbooks. an average of 69.12%.

Considerations for Design and Production of Digital Books for Early Literacy in Ethiopia

This paper considers the implications of digital text production models for the development of reading materials for emergent and early readers in the Ethiopian context. We draw from several theoretical frameworks and also from comments of Ethiopian academics, writers, and publishers to ground descriptions of Ethiopian contexts of language and literacy. We then present three different models for the production and curation of digital stories for children and contemplate how these models align with existing literacy traditions and practices. We also raise questions about the potential effects on the development of literary culture and children’s literature in Ethiopia of projects aimed at rapidly producing large corpora of literature for children. Ultimately, we pose complicated cultural and linguistic questions that need to be taken into consideration to provide appropriate and original early literacy materials in Ethiopia.

Because English is included Content Area Reading, so the development of reading materials is based on content area which focus on strengthen the vocabularies, specifically the unfamiliar ones, by giving glossary and related pictures. The developed text is only focus in the first semester which is descriptive and recount text. The research was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Medan. The data was taken from interviewing the English teacher and distributing questionnaires for 30 students in grade VIII-4. The data showed that students need materials which is related to their environment and constructed by familiar vocabularies. Based on the result of the study, conclusion and suggestion are directed to the English teacher who is teaching in that school to provide reading materials based on syllabus and students' needs regularly. Enhancing Mentally Retarded Students’ Comprehension: The Development of MASH Project-Based Reading Material

The development of reading material through Project Based Learning (PBL)strategy using MASH is aimed to meet mentally retarded students’ learning andtarget needs in EFL English reading courses. This study employed a researchand development design which comprises seven stages, namely: a) students’need analysis, design of MASH Project based reading, development, expertvalidation, implementation, reading material evaluation, and final product inthe form of MASH project based reading material. The result of the reading material development took resulted six chapters in terms of number 11-20, expression agree/disagree, and part of house where containing material of thetopic, video, and exercises that utilize Project-Based Learning strategy. Theresult of experts’ validation from an English teacher who assessed the materialrevealed the score was 78% that sorted out into ‘very good’ category and anInformatics teacher who assessed the media revealed the score was 74% thatsorted out into ‘good’ category. While, the result of the students’ responserelated to the product showed the total score was 79% that the students agreewith MASH media to be used in learning process. As its effectiveness towardthe improvement of mentally retarded students’ reading comprehension is notmeasured yet, so an experimental study is addressed for further research tomeet the issue of MASH reading material effectiveness and conduct the similarproject with another media to develop more reading materials and activities.

A Genre Analysis of Newspaper Articles for Korean Language Education -Based on the linguistic analysis of newspaper articles and reading materials in Korean language textbooks-

The goal of this study is to examine whether the genre characteristics of newspaper articles are appropriately reflected in Korean language textbooks. For the purpose of this study, two corpora were built with 17 textbook articles and 60 newspaper articles respectively. The average sentence length and frequency of vocabulary in each corpus were measured. It was found that the sentences of articles in textbooks tended to have longer sentence length and more complicated structures than the articles in newspapers. For instance, sentences in the textbook articles had more verbal endings, such as conjunctive and transforming endings. On the other hand, in case of vocabulary representing `timeliness`, there was a high frequency of adverbs and nouns which were related to year, month, and time in actual articles, while it is found to be very limited in textbooks. Also, typical translative styles such as `-ko itta`, `-e ttareumyun` were more prominent in textbooks than in newspaper articles. In the case of abbreviated and omitted form of particles, this was a characteristic that appeared only in actual articles because of the constraint of space. It is significant that this paper offers suggestions for the development of reading materials for Korean language education by revealing that the genre typology of actual newspaper articles is not adequately reflected in current textbooks. VOCABULARY IN AGRIBUSINESS: CONCORDANCE AS A CLASS ACTIVITY

This article is related to ESP, vocabulary teaching, and computer corpus data. These three elements together can lead to new methodologies in language teaching, for example, computer-generated concordances that are very helpful for grammar and vocabulary teaching (BUTLER, 1998). Based on discourse analysis, genre theories, and corpus linguistics teacher have new ways of vocabulary practices, using authentic and contextualized data. Moreover, working with computer corpus data gives a great support to teachers in terms of use of language and with more specialized vocabulary. I suggest also that this proposal can also be helpful in the development of reading materials for classes of ESP classes.

Issues in Supervision of the Pregnant Psychiatric Resident

The significant transference/countertransference and reality-based issues raised by the pregnancy of a psychiatry resident are rarely raised by the resident’s supervisors. A review of the literature and several case examples are given as background to recommendations to supervisors. These include: the development of reading materials and guidelines to actively encourage supervisors to discuss the potential impact of the pregnancy of their supervisees; supervisors should encourage pregnant residents to discuss their pregnancies early and realistically with their long-term patients; and the identification of one interested supervisor as a resource person for residents and faculty.

HEARING IMPAIRED ADOLESCENTS' COMPREHENSION OF ANAPHORIC RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN CONJOINED SENTENCES

Thirty-two hearing impaired adolescents were administered a test instrument assessing comprehension of three anaphoric forms within conjoined sentences: repeated noun, personal pronouns, and null form. The null form was presented in two semantic environments. One environment allowed use of the object-subject deletion rule, a deviant rule found in the language of some hearing impaired students. In this environment, use of the deviant rule produced a conceptually acceptable event. Use of the deviant rule in the second environment, however, produced a conceptually unacceptable event. The null form anaphora in the semantically acceptable environment was significantly more difficult than the other anaphora. Implications for teaching language and development of reading materials for hearing impaired students are discussed.

What Should Children Read in School?

I have glanced at the development of reading material from the days of the hornbook to the textbook of the present period. I have observed that the authors of the more recent readers substantially agree upon interest as a quality which should guide them in selecting reading matter; but that they do not agree either among themselves or?what is more serious?with the children as to what is interesting. I have also noted the increas ing dominance of the literary ideal in connection with reading material; but I have questioned the sufficiency of this ideal. As actually put into practice I have even questioned its appro priateness; and I have advanced the view that, since reading material is valuable because of its usefulness in teaching chil dren how to read, literature has no more inherent right to preempt the pages of our reading books than has geography, history, or science. The further consideration of what children should read in school is closely related to a consideration of methods of teach ing reading, especially methods of teaching silent reading. Such methods, it has been pointed out, must address themselves to the development of speed and comprehension?especially the latter. In most school systems, pupils begin the use of books by the middle of the first school year, and thus it is very early in the child's educational career that the question of selecting the right kind of reading matter confronts us. Remembering that our largest task, as we now conceive it, has to do with silent reading rather than with oral reading, and that in teaching silent reading we wish to develop rate and com prehension, let us in the light of these facts examine some first reader selections. These are taken practically at random from a pile of first readers in common use. Each one of them represents all the reading matter on a page of one of these books. 109
