This article presents a narrative review into the impact of social media on male self-image, emphasizing the detrimental effects of prolonged exposure to idealized physical standards. A qualitative literature review based on national and international studies revealed that these widely disseminated digital platforms significantly contribute to body dissatisfaction, low self-esteem and the development of psychological disorders, including anxiety, depression and eating disorders among young men. Critical data analysis showed that social media reinforces hegemonic beauty stereotypes, generating aesthetic and psychological pressures. Furthermore, these pressures negatively affect individuals' emotional well-being and self-confidence, compromising their mental health and quality of life. This research enhances understanding of the dynamics between social media, gender identity, and mental health, providing insights for public policies, effective interventions, preventive strategies and meaningful educational initiatives.
