Research on the Accounting and Spatial Effects of Emergy Ecological Footprint and Industrial Green GDP--The Case of Yangtze River Economic Belt

The booming development of industrial enterprises at the cost of ecological resource consumption has inevitably harmed the ecological environment, especially since the phenomenon of water resource pollution is more serious. Exploring the relationship between the ecological environment and the industrial economy is crucial to the green and sustainable development of the region. This study uses the Spatial Durbin Model (SDM) to investigate the impact of emergy ecological footprint on the industrial green of gross domestic product (GDP) under the perspective of water resources, based on the panel data of 11 provinces in Chinas Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) from 2012 to 2021. The results show that first, the overall industrial green GDP of the YREB has increased year by year, and the effect of water resource protection is outstanding. Second, the emergy ecological footprint has a significant positive effect on industrial green GDP, and the spillover effect is also significant. Third, heterogeneity analysis shows that the spatial relationship between emergy ecological footprint and industrial green GDP is different in different regions, and the local effect and neighborhood effect of the high industrial green economic development areas are consistent with those of the YREB, while the relationship between the low industrial green economic development areas is not obvious. This paper is of great significance for the green development of industrial enterprises in the YREB and guides the formulation of sustainable development policies.

Examining nonlinear effects of socioecological drivers on urban solar energy development in China using machine learning and high-dimensional data

In the context of carbon neutrality target, renewable energy sources have been transforming from “supplementary energy” to “main energy”, which have promoted the green and low-carbon transition of global energy supply system. In-depth analyzing the spatial patterns and driving mechanisms of renewable energy expansion are of significance for optimizing the spatial layout of clean power, and avoiding the phenomenon of wind and solar power curtailment. In this paper, we proposed an ensemble learning model to examine the nonlinear effects of physical geography, resource endowment, and socio-economic factors on solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity at the prefecture-level city scale in China. Using the city-level multi-sources geospatial big data, we extensively collected a total of 175 related explanatory variables and cumulative installed capacity of solar PV power for 295 prefecture-level cities of China. The recursive feature elimination algorithm (SVM-REF) is firstly used to extract the optimal feature subset of urban PV capacity from multi-dimensional features variables. Furthermore, three advanced machine learning models (random forest, decision tree, extreme gradient boosting) are developed to identify the key influencing factors and nonlinear driving effect of urban solar PV power expansion in China. The results show that China's PV installation capacity is highly concentrated in Northern and Northwest parts of China, with the occupancy over 70% in 2019. Moreover, the XGBoost model has the best prediction accuracy (R2 = 0.97) among three methods. We also found that total amount of urban water resources, average solar radiation, and population density are the most important controlling factors for urban solar PV capacity expansion in China, with contribution of 35.6%, 17.7%, and 13.3%, respectively. We suggested that urban solar PV layout mode in China is recommended to gradually shift from resource orientation to the “resource-environment-demand” comprehensive orientation. The paper provides a replicable, scalable machine learning models for simulating solar PV power capacity at the prefecture-level city scale, and serves as a motivation for decision-making reference of the macro siting optimization and sustainable development of China's green power industry.

On the Transmission Mechanism of Carbon Finance Promoting the Green Transformation of Traditional Industries in China

This article clarifies the specific impact mechanism of carbon finance on the industrial transformation of Anhui Province in China by studying the changes in carbon emissions and the current status of industrial development in Anhui. Through research and investigation, it has been found that the impact of carbon finance on industrial transformation is mainly reflected in four aspects: (1) Carbon finance enables some enterprises to have more funds to improve production processes and reduce carbon emissions in the production process through carbon emission trading. (2) Carbon finance promotes its transformation by changing the operating mechanism of the market, lowering entry barriers, and allowing more enterprises to enjoy the dividends of carbon finance. (3) Carbon finance uses financial means to eliminate high energy consuming and high emission enterprises and optimize industrial structure. (4) The emergence of carbon finance will encourage the government to increase support for financial related talents, cultivate more talents in carbon finance, change the management mode of enterprises, and enhance their international competitiveness. This article proposes countermeasures and suggestions from the perspective of promoting environmental protection and industrial green transformation and development.

A New Direction for the Green, Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable Bioproduction of Aminobenzoic Acid and Its Derivatives

Aminobenzoic acid and its derivatives are a class of aromatic compounds that are important foundational chemicals for various dyes, food additives, and pharmaceuticals. Their production relies on chemical synthesis using petroleum-derived substances such as benzene as precursors, but due to the toxicity, environmental pollution, and non-renewable nature of raw materials in chemical synthesis, some suitable alternative methods are gradually being developed. Green, environmentally friendly, and sustainable biosynthesis methods have gradually been favored by researchers, especially after the discovery of the synthetic pathways of aminobenzoic acid and its derivatives in plants and microorganisms. Based on the purpose of protecting the ecological environment, reducing the use of non-renewable resources, and providing theoretical support for industrial green development, this article reviews the biosynthesis pathways of ortho-aminobenzoic acid, meta-aminobenzoic acid, para-aminobenzoic acid, and its derivatives such as catechol, folic acid, etc., and lists some examples of biosynthesis, analyzes their advantages and disadvantages, summarizes and looks forward to the future development direction of biosynthesis of aminobenzoic acid and its derivatives.

Green finance, green development and decarbonization of the energy consumption structure.

Energy plays a crucial role in global economic development, but it also contributes significantly to CO2 emissions. China has proposed a "dual-carbon" goal, and a key aspect to achieving this objective is finding effective ways to promote the decarbonization of the energy consumption structure (DECS). Compared with traditional finance, green finance is pivotal in advancing green and low-carbon development. However, the mechanism through which green finance impacts DECS has not been thoroughly explored. This study employs an enhanced weighted multi-dimensional vector angle method, which is more systematic and scientific, to measure DECS. Then, dynamic panel data from 30 provinces in China spanning the years 2003 to 2020 are used. A double fixed-effects model is applied to investigate the impact of green finance on the DECS and identify potential pathways. Results reveal that green finance significantly enhances DECS, primarily by reinforcing green development. The critical impact pathway involves the promotion of green technology innovation and green industry development. Moreover, the enhancing effect of green finance on the DECS is considerably significant in regions with relatively low government spending on science and technology (S&T), and where the focus is not on the "Atmospheric Ten" policy. The measurement of DECS is innovative, and the conclusions derived from it can offer compelling evidence for various social stakeholders. The government has the opportunity to establish a green financial system, supporting green technological innovation and the development of green industries. This approach can accelerate the DECS and work toward achieving the "double carbon" goal at an earlier date.

Does the closure of polluting enterprises improve rural livelihoods? Evidence from rural China

AbstractIn response to an increasingly dire pollution scenario, the Chinese government initiated the largest and most extensive environmental inspection campaign in history starting in 2016. Numerous polluting enterprises were closed due to environmental concerns in the rural areas. Drawing on two‐period panel data from the China Rural Development Survey, this study revealed the inherent mechanism of the polluting enterprises closure on local rural livelihoods using the difference‐in‐differences method and structural equation model, with reference to the sustainable livelihood framework. Results showed that shuttering polluting enterprises enhanced rural households' livelihood capital, notably in human, natural, and physical aspects, and promoted labor migration. Additional heterogeneous analysis revealed that the enhancements were notably more pronounced in Southern China and among affluent demographics. Based on the findings, we suggested the local government should support the development of sustainable agriculture and green industries and pay more attention to vulnerable populations when making policy decisions. The use of mandatory directives, such as shutting down polluting enterprises, is a common strategy in developing countries. This study presents an analytical framework for understanding the impact of environmental governance on the livelihoods of rural households in developing countries, contributing to a better balance between rural environmental management and livelihood improvement in these regions.

Capacity Optimization Configuration for a Park-Level Hybrid Energy Storage System Based on an Improved Cuckoo Algorithm

To promote the development of green industries in the industrial park, a microgrid system consisting of wind power, photovoltaic, and hybrid energy storage (WT-PV-HES) was constructed. It effectively promotes the local consumption of wind and solar energy while reducing the burden on the grid infrastructure. In this study, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to decompose the multi-objective function into a single-objective function. The economic and environmental benefits of the system were taken as the objective function. Furthermore, the cuckoo search algorithm (CS) was used to solve the specific capacity of each distributed power source. Different scenarios were applied to study the specific capacity of microgrid systems. The results show that the equivalent annual cost of the WT-PV-HES microgrid system is reduced by 7.3 percent and 62.23 percent, respectively. The carbon disposal cost is reduced by 1.71 and 2.38 times, respectively. The carbon treatment cost is more sensitive to load changes. The solution iteration of the cuckoo algorithm is 18 times. Meanwhile, the system requires four updates of capacity allocation results for 20 years of operation. This result validates the effectiveness of the proposed model and methodology. It also provides a reference for the research and construction of capacity allocation of microgrid systems at the park level.

The important of eliminating energy market distortions: The perspective of industrial green productivity

The elimination of energy market distortions (EMDs) is a key objective of energy marketization reform and plays a crucial role in advancing green industrial development. This study, based on the provincial panel data from 2008 to 2018 in China, first measured the EMDs from the perspective of competition and non-competition distortions, and then investigated the effect and mechanism of EMDs on industrial green total factor productivity (GTFP). The results indicate a declining trend in EMDs from 2008 to 2018, with a hierarchical distribution from high to low across the western, central, and eastern regions. Particularly, competitive distortions of EMDs inhibit industrial GTFP by negatively affecting green technological innovation. Moreover, the inhibitory effect is more pronounced in the eastern region. Additionally, the inhibitory effect amplifies as local governments face increasing pressures related to economic growth and fiscal demands.

Evaluating the economic sustainability of commercial complex greening based on cost-benefit analysis: A case study of Singapore’s Shaw center

Commercial complex greening is the alternative to leading the greening development of public buildings, reducing the negative impact of buildings on the environment, and achieving sustainable development goals. However, the economic sustainability of commercial complex greening remains underinvestigated. This study investigated traditional building greening economic evaluation indicators and quantitative methods according to the characteristics of commercial complexes in to provide ideas on the economic evaluation of it to fill in the blanks of CBA analysis applied to the economics of greening systems of commercial buildings. Applying cost-benefit analysis, this study evaluated the economic sustainability of vertical greening systems (VGS) and green roof systems (GRS) installed on a commercial complex in Singapore using Net Present Value (NPV), Payback Period (PBP), and sensitivity analysis to quantify and integrate personal and social life cycle costs and benefits. The methodology was based on an extensive literature review in multiple fields and rational assumptions for unavailable data. The key findings were: 1) Commercial complex greening is a feasible investment. 2) VGS has a higher economic return value, whereas GRS can achieve faster payback. 3) Well-designed greening and vitality-boosting ideas bring more economic returns than tax incentives. 4) Property value improvement, maintenance cost, and fire risk reduction were sensitive factors affecting NPV, among which property value played a decisive role, especially for VGS. 5) Extensive construction and tax policies can reduce costs and improve the economy. 6) Personal benefits generated by greening are greater than social benefits. This critical case study of a commercial complex greening project provides greening developers and operators a better understanding of the economic competitiveness of commercial complex greening implementation to promote the market application and a rationale for governments to revise existing or formulate new measures to encourage the development of green industries. Although the conclusion of this study only focuses on the economic sustainability of greening in commercial complexes in Singapore due to sample size limitations, achieving a more significant localized evaluation is potential by collecting and replacing data corresponding to regions based on this research framework. Meanwhile, quantifying more economic indicators, comparing the economy of different greening modes in commercial complexes and arranging an international database about the economic sustainability of commercial complex greening are worth further exploration in the future.

Holistic managements of textile wastewater through circular, greener and eco-innovative treatment systems developed by minimal to zero liquid discharge

New pragmatic and viable solutions to reduce or prevent discharge and to protect reserves are currently among the top-prioritised research for cleaner, circular, and resource-efficient use of industrial waters. So, the development of eco-sustainable water management is essential for green industrial development that will meet versatile and eco-sensitive regulatory standards, especially in water-intensive industries. Textile wastewater was reclaimed in semi to fully closed loops for minimal to zero liquid discharge. Concentrate-mixed wastewater was steadily treated in a hybrid membrane oxidation reactor at 60–80 % synergistic performances with remarkable UF fluxes of 96.4–820 L/m2h without any sludge discharge. Effluent was purified with 90–100 % removals and 20–80 L/m2h in nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. Due to Fenton-specific operation, more handling by ion exchange and neutralisation required to harvest membrane reuse waters and reactor discharge effluents with guaranteed Fe and pH. All-in-one system simulations indicated that high quality reuse waters are produced by 99.9 % efficiency and 98 and 100 % savings in iron and acid but 20–51 % more oxidant through concentrate recycling and regenerant reuse. It was also revealed that reactor effluents can be released to the sea or conventional biological treatment or can be eco-sustainably exploited for in-situ chemical and ex-situ bio-induced recovery of vivianite. This research demonstrates that how textile wastewater can be managed holistically by liquid discharge approaches from 50 % minimal to 99.9 % zero just in two-step, i.e. pretreatment and pre-concentration, with consumable minimisation and valuable waste recovery through the eco-innovative systems which are developed as circular, greener, and sludge-free compatible with sustainable development goals.

Analysis of the Problems and Suggestions for Ecological Protection and Restoration of Coastal Zones in China

This paper analyzes the existing problems of ecological protection and restoration of coastal zones in China, and puts forward corresponding suggestions and solutions. In terms of technology, it is necessary to strengthen scientific and technological innovation and upgrading, develop repair technologies suitable for different coastal habitats, and strengthen the application of monitoring and evaluation technologies to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of restoration work. In terms of management and policy, it is necessary to establish a comprehensive management mechanism, clarify the responsibilities and powers of various departments, and strengthen the formulation and implementation of laws and regulations. In addition, financial support should be enhanced, social participation should be encouraged, and international cooperation should be strengthened to jointly meet the challenges of ecological restoration. In terms of social economy, we should pay attention to sustainable development and achieve a win-win situation between economic growth and ecological protection by promoting the development of green industries and other ways. At the same time, it is also necessary to improve the public’s awareness and participation in coastal ecological restoration, strengthen environmental education and publicity work, cultivate the public’s awareness of the environment and responsibility for scientific and technological innovation, change economic factors and improve public education awareness, and achieve the effectiveness of coastal protection and restoration work to realize marine ecological safety and sustainable development.

Digital empowerment and win-win co-operation for green and low-carbon industrial development: Analysis of regional differences based on GMM-ANN intelligence models

The study employs two sophisticated computational model validation mechanisms, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and System Generalized Method of Moments (SYS-GMM), as the theoretical foundation for sustainable development theory. Within this research framework, ANN serves as an intelligent model for autonomously learning input data features by capturing the nonlinear and dynamic relationships within the data. This study thoroughly simulates and analyzes the intricate relationship between digital empowerment and win-win cooperation in green and low-carbon industrial development. The findings indicate a regional decreasing trend in digital empowerment in China, with percentages of 87.39%, 79.05%, and 65.85%, respectively. These regional variations may result from policy, economic structure, and social factors. Notably, a significant trend of win-win cooperation exists between digital empowerment and green low-carbon initiatives. This discovery implies that promoting digital empowerment contributes to reducing green carbon emissions, offering empirical evidence for the positive impact of digital technology on promoting environmental sustainability. This study unveils the empirical trend of digitally-enabled green, low-carbon industry development within the win-win cooperation framework and presents specific recommendations for future sustainability strategies. In addition to offering a scientific foundation for policymakers, this study provides a forward-looking perspective for academics engaged in the study of digital transformation and environmental sustainability. Through a comprehensive analysis of the intricate relationship between digital empowerment and win-win cooperation in the context of green and low-carbon industrial development, this study offers a profound understanding of the application of digital technology in sustainable development across diverse regions, contributing empirical research findings to advance sustainable development in China.

Can Green Finance Policies Have Impact on Brown Sector Stocks?

 In recent years, in response to climate change, China has introduced a series of green finance policies to support the low-carbon transformation of the economy, which may have a negative impact on the brown industry while promoting the development of green industries. This article uses the event study methodology to study the impact of the introduction of three typical green finance policies on the returns of brown industry stocks. The results show that there is consistency in the effects of different types of policies on brown industry stock returns. Overall, Green finance policy has a strong negative impact on the stock returns of brown enterprises in the short term, but has a significant positive impact on those enterprises with good financial performance in the long term.

Pipeline sharing: Optimal design of downstream green ammonia supply systems integrating with multi-product pipelines

Green ammonia is a promising energy storage form with extremely high efficiency of hydrogen storage. Although the construction of green ammonia production facilities is rapidly progressing, there is still a lack of comprehensive consideration of the optimal design for supply systems. This paper prospectively explores a framework for the ammonia supply system under four scenarios considering multimodal transportation. Different mathematical models are developed, which incorporate special constraints such as pipe diameter, broken loops, etc., aiming at minimizing costs of transportation, construction and carbon treatment. In this framework, the economic, energy and environmental performance is evaluated to optimize the design of the supply system. The case study in China shows that different transportation modes can reduce economic costs by 60.93∼77.45 %, energy consumption by 18.4 ∼67.7 ktce, and carbon emissions by 23.3∼60.7 kt per year. A further novel finding is that the simultaneous usage of new liquid ammonia pipelines and multi-product pipelines for supply systems proves to be the most effective transportation mode. Sensitivity analyses are also conducted on regional production capacity expansion, liquid ammonia pipeline planning, and multi-product pipeline utilization. The results confirm that the scheme is stable under certain conditions. Finally, some recommendations are provided for the development of green ammonia industry.

Practice of Xi Jinping's Ecological Civilization Thought Leading Wenzhou Ecology in the New Era

Under the guidance of Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought, the ecological practice of Wenzhou in the new era was deeply studied. With the help of literature analysis, this paper first summarizes the main content and importance of Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought, and points out that this thought is an important part of the development of Socialism with Chinese characteristics's great cause, with a strong background of the times and realistic orientation. Secondly, the article analyzes the main practice of ecological civilization construction in Wenzhou in the new era, and highlights the specific application of the concept of "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", such as focusing on promoting the development of green industries and vigorously improving environmental quality. Thirdly, from the perspective of the combination of theory and practice, the article explains in detail how Wenzhou carries out its practice according to Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought, and thus reveals its internal logic and realization path. Finally, combining with Wenzhou's concrete practice, this paper deeply interprets the theoretical and practical significance of Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought in the new era. It is emphasized that adhering to and developing the idea of ecological civilization and promoting the construction of ecological civilization is an important path to promote the all-round development of economy and society and realize the goal of a well-off society in an all-round way. Generally speaking, this study comprehensively and deeply discusses the problem that Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought leads Wenzhou's ecological practice in the new era from the two dimensions of theory and practice, which has strong theoretical guidance and practical reference value.

Research on the Relationship Between ESG Rating and Stock Pricing

Nowadays, the development of green industries is the focus of Chinese ecological civilization construction and the main growth point of China's economic development. As an important evaluation index, Emotional, Social and Governance(ESG) rating can not only reflect the development quality of listed enterprises, but also promote corporate social responsibility. At the same time, ESG will convert external costs in the production process of the enterprise into internal costs, affecting the resource allocation of the enterprise, and guiding the enterprise to adopt corresponding sustainable strategies and plans. Therefore, this article focuses on the relationship between ESG and stock pricing ratings. The data in this paper comes from the Wind database and the relevant data of listed companies in the stock market from 2018 to 2022 from the CSMAR database, and through the fixed-effects model, it is concluded that the relationship between corporate ESG and the price-to-book ratio of their stocks is inversely correlated.

Disclosure of CO2 emissions, community complaints, occupational safety and its relation to financial distress

The Indonesian government is committed to resolving emission issues through the development of green industries. The government encourages industries to transform into sustainable industries that are environmentally friendly. The Indonesian government asks the public and the market to put pressure on the industry to improve its environmental performance. The public can monitor and pressure companies through the disclosure of environmental performance information such as disclosure of CO2 emissions. In addition to environmental performance, disclosure of corporate social performance is no less important. Social performance relates to the company’s responsibility towards employees (work accidents) and the surrounding community (community complaints). The risk of companies that have poor environmental performance and social performance can result in the company experiencing financial distress. This study aims to examine the effect of disclosure of CO2 emissions, community complaints, and work safety on Financial Distress. Financial Distress is measured using the Altman Z Score and operational cash flow adequacy. This study uses age and company size as control variables. The sample of this study is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2018-2021. This study uses the Common Effect Model (CEM) and Random Effect Model (REM). The results of the research show Disclosure of CO2 emissions, community complaints, occupational safety has no significant effect on financial distress. However, firm age and firm size have a significant positive effect on the adequacy of the firm’s operating cash flow.

The Problems and Countermeasures of the Development of China's Green Tourism Industry under the Dual Carbon Background

Under the goal of achieving "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality", green and low-carbon transformation is one of the important directions for the high-quality development of the tourism industry. A low-carbon economy can promote the green development of the tourism industry, stimulate national demand for green tourism, and force tourism enterprises to upgrade their products. The deep integration and development of low-carbon economy and tourism industry is an inevitable choice of the times. China should take green and low-carbon consumption as the breakthrough point, integrate the concept of low-carbon economic development, achieve green development of tourism industry, and innovate the path of green and low-carbon development of China's tourism industry.
