Preface

The International Conference on Power System and Energy Technology (ICPSET) has confirmed once again this year the enthusiasm and determination of students and young researchers to play a major role in the scientific progress. Since 2020, we have gathered together to discuss the most recent developments and achievements on power system and energy technology, and we firmly convince that sharing our expertise and experience is the foundation of research activity. The 2024 3rd International Conference on Power System and Energy Technology (ICPSET 2024) took place from July 5th to 7th, 2024 in Hangzhou, China, attracting more than 100 leading delegates worldwide. The format we chose is a formal meeting primarily aimed at graduate students and leading researchers, who were encouraged to present their work through oral or poster presentations that provide genuine engagement of the audience and cross-pollination of ideas. The main purposes of the conference were to create an international forum for researchers, both experimentalists and theorists, and foster fruitful collaborations across different branches of power system and energy technology. With the strong organizing team, committee member, the great number of excellent submission as well as the wide international fame, the ICPSET was held for the third time. The success of this year’s event was testified by an increased number of participants and institutions all around the world. This resulted in an extremely rich and interactive keynote speech, oral and poster session that covered several areas related to power system and energy technology. With the intent of broadening the contents and stimuli adopting academic communication, the keynote speech part was held. This choice reflects the growing importance of the activity performed by scientists and researchers as a way of increasing their expertise and developing soft skills. Included among the keynote speakers were Professor Qian Chen (Jiangsu University, China), Professor Qingshan She (Hangzhou Dianzi University, China), Professor Jingfeng Mao (Nantong University, China), Associate Professor Zafar Said (University of Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates), as well as Associate Professor Wentao Huang (Jiangnan University, China). They gave wonderful keynote speeches and shared their latest research results and insights through their research and experimental experiences and professional knowledge in the fields of power systems and energy technologies. This conference provided a high-level academic exchange platform for participants, promoted the exchange and collision of new ideas and technologies, and promoted the innovation and development of power systems and energy technologies as well as their affiliated industries and disciplines. In this volume, we collected the excellent contributions that have also been presented at the conference through oral or poster presentations, covering topics on Intelligent Protection and Substation Integrated Automation, Power System Real-Time Simulation System, Smart Grid, Renewable Energy, Energy Storage Technology, Energy Efficiency, Energy Conversion and Application, among others. Finally, we would like to thank all the keynote speakers, authors, reviewers, and everyone who contributed to the conference. We owe gratitude to all the committee members for providing necessary help and support throughout the conference. Optimization of the Small Wind Turbine Design—Performance Analysis

In recent decades, the intensive development of renewable energy technology has been observed as a great alternative to conventional energy sources. Solutions aimed at individual customers, which can be used directly in places where electricity is required, are of particular interest. Small wind turbines pose a special challenge because their design must be adapted to environmental conditions, including low wind speed or variability in its direction. The research study presented in this paper considers the energy efficiency of a small wind turbine with a horizontal axis of rotation. Three key design parameters were analyzed: the shape and inclination of the turbine blades and additional confusor–diffuser shape casings. The tests were carried out for three conceptual variants: a confusor before the turbine, a diffuser after the turbine, and a confusor–diffuser combination. Studies have shown that changing the shape of the blade can increase the analyzed wind turbine power by up to 35%, while changing the blade inclination can cause an increase of up to 16% compared to the initial installation position and a 66% increase in power when comparing the extreme inclination of the blades of the tested turbine. The study has shown that to increase the wind speed, the best solution is to use a confusor–diffuser configuration, which, with increased length, can increase the air velocity by up to 21%.

Hydrogen generation via NaBH4 hydrolysis over cobalt-modified niobium oxide catalysts

The increasing concentration of CO₂ in the atmosphere, primarily driven by fossil fuel combustion, is a major contributor to global warming and one of the most pressing environmental challenges of the 21st century. In response, the development of sustainable energy technologies, such as hydrogen (H₂) production, has become crucial in the global transition to a low-carbon economy. In this study, we explored the catalytic activity of cobalt-modified niobium-based catalysts for hydrogen generation through the hydrolysis of NaBH₄. The catalysts were characterized using XRD, FTIR, XPS, SEM-EDX, and N₂ adsorption-desorption. XRD analysis revealed that the synthesized Nb₂O₅ (Nb₂O₅ Synt.) and Nb₂O₅/Co (Nb₂O₅/Co Synt.) exhibited amorphous structures, while the commercial Nb₂O₅ (Nb₂O₅ Com.) and its Co-modified composite displayed orthorhombic phases. The Nb₂O₅/Co Synt. catalyst achieved a surface area of 33.1 m2/g, significantly surpassing that of the commercial Nb₂O₅. The Nb₂O₅/Co Synt. catalyst exhibited superior catalytic activity, yielding 250 mL of hydrogen in 60 min, in contrast to other catalysts that showed no activity under identical conditions. This enhanced activity was attributed to the presence of surface hydroxyl groups and metallic Co nanoparticles, following the Langmuir-Hinshelwood bimolecular mechanism. Temperature was identified as a critical factor in the H₂ production rate, with a calculated activation energy of 11.37 kJ/mol. Moreover, the Nb₂O₅/Co Synt. catalyst demonstrated excellent reusability, maintaining stable performance after multiple reaction cycles, highlighting its potential for sustainable hydrogen production.

High‐performance triboelectric nanogenerator based on a double‐spiral zigzag‐origami structure for continuous sensing and signal transmission in marine environment

AbstractWith the rapid evolution of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, big data, robotics, and novel materials, the landscape of global ocean science and technology is undergoing significant transformation. Ocean wave energy stands out as one of the most promising clean and renewable energy sources. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) represent a cutting‐edge technology for harnessing such random and ultra‐low frequency energy toward blue energy. A high‐performance TENG incorporating a double‐spiral zigzag‐origami structure is engineered to achieve continuous sensing and signal transmission in marine environment. Integrating the double‐spiral origami into the TENG system enables efficient energy harvesting from the ocean waves by converting low‐frequency wave vibrations into high‐frequency motions. Under the water wave triggering of 0.8 Hz, the TENG generates a maximum peak power density of 55.4 W m−3, and a TENG array with six units can generate an output current of 375.2 μA (density of 468.8 mA m−3). This power‐managed TENG array effectively powers a wireless water quality detector and transmits signals without an external power supply. The findings contribute to the development of sustainable and renewable energy technologies for oceanic applications and open new pathways for designing advanced materials and structures in the field of energy harvesting.

AHP VIKOR framework for selecting wind turbine materials with a focus on corrosion and efficiency

The research objective in the context of the study relates to the major concern of corrosion affecting the wind turbines in operation to find materials with high durability in relation to environmental conditions of operation, strength, and cost. A method is an integration of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and VIKOR Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques that will assess seven different material options on sixteen criteria that comprise corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, cost, and a negative environmental impact. From this result, the AHP method calculated the weights for the indicators and chose potential materials, and finally, the VIKOR method used these materials and compared and ranked them to obtain a compromise solution. The research novelty integrates the AHP and VIKOR MCDM methods to address corrosion in wind turbines. By evaluating seven materials against challenging sixteen criteria—including corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, cost, and toxicity, AHP ranks and weights the criteria, while VIKOR identifies the optimal material choice. This dual approach enhances the selection process, ensuring the chosen material improves turbine performance and durability, offering a significant advancement in the sustainable development of wind energy technology. In conclusion, by integrating AHP and VIKOR, it comprehensively evaluates multiple material options based on corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, cost, and environmental impact. This methodology effectively identifies materials that enhance wind turbine performance and extend their lifespan, addressing a critical industry challenge. The alternative exhibits a similarity to the positive ideal solution (Si) of 0.3704 and a relative closeness to the ideal solution (Ri) of 0.0750. Additionally, its priority ranking (Qi) is 0.001, placing it in the first rank for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) within the selection methodology.

Clean Energy and Long Run Dynamics of Output, Labor and Capital Stock: Evidence from China

Clean energy has sparked the importance of a sustainable environment and economic production in China. The concerns of climate and global warming can be solved with the adoption of clean energy. This study investigates the potential long-run connection amid economic production, labor, and capital stock with clean energy employing data from the years 1990-2020 in China. The combination of long-run estimates with Granger causalit678y has been employed. The observed output indicates that there is a long-run connection among these variables in an equilibrium sense. Also, changes in clean energy are significant in explaining changes in economic production. The outputs of the causality test corroborate that clean energy is causing economic production. The estimated elasticity of clean energy with respect to production is statistically significant in the long run. The findings imply that the development of new energy technologies for clean energy should be incorporated into the energy mix to balance the supply-demand gap.

Ionic liquid-assisted controlled synthesis of multi-site Ni2P as a bifunctional catalyst for electrocatalytic water splitting

It is crucial to develop effective electrocatalysts with multiple active sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in order to promote the advance energy conversion and development of sustainable energy technology. Here, we synthesized hierarchical nanostructured Ni2P on carbon cloth using ionic liquid (IL) assisted sacrificial template strategy through a simple two-step hydrothermal phosphatization process, which served as an electrode for enhancing bifunctional water electrolysis. By changing the content of ionic liquids in the solvent, the morphology of Ni(OH)2 precursors could be regulated, thereby altering the morphology of Ni2P. Ni2P exhibited remarkable electrocatalytic activity towards HER in acidic electrolytes with an overpotential of 132 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, as well as OER in alkaline media with the overpotential of 309 mV. The excellent electrocatalytic activity of the Ni2P-2 could be attributed to its hierarchical nanostructure providing abundant active sites, which benefits from the structural end-capping effect of ILs.

LCA analysis on the management of typical lignocellulosic agricultural wastes: Case studies and comparison in Greece and China

Significant quantities of lignocellulosic agricultural residues are produced worldwide, and their management is quite problematic. In Greece and in general in the Mediterranean, large quantities of prunings are produced, especially from olive trees. The common practice of managing these residues is by burning them in the fields. On the other hand, in China, but also globally, huge amounts of residues are produced from cotton cultivation and efforts are being made to avoid the residues' usual burning in the fields. Beyond the development and refinement of energy and material utilization technologies for this waste, as well as the necessary economic analyses, very important for the scientific community is the study of the environmental impacts concerning the conventional management practices versus alternative ones that involve the wastes’ utilization.In this work and through the analysis of case studies in Greece and China for the management of the aforementioned typical lignocellulosic agricultural residues, comparative life cycle assessments of open-field burning practices versus energy production practices through gasification or pyrolysis are attempted. The results proved to be interesting and both cases agree with each other qualitatively despite the use of different tools and the application in different countries and agricultural residues. The comparative results highlight the need for immediate adoption of sustainable practices against the highly damaging conventional ones.

Integrating NiSe2-MoSe2 heterojunctions with N-doped porous carbon substrate architecture for an enhanced electrocatalytic water splitting device

The development of sustainable energy technologies relies on the exploitation of efficient and durable electrocatalysts for water splitting at high current densities. Our work presents a novel bifunctional catalyst, denoted as NM@NC/CC, which combines the benefits of NiSe2-MoSe2 heterojunctions with nitrogen-enriched porous carbon derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The integration of these components is designed to harness their combined advantages, which include enhanced electron transfer, improved mass and gas evolution dynamics, and an increased number of catalytically active sites. These features collectively optimize the energetics for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). As a result, the catalyst facilitates rapid kinetics for the overall water-splitting process. The NM@NC/CC demonstrates low overpotentials, requiring only 91 mV for the HER and 280 mV for the OER to reach a current density of 10 mA cm−2. Even at higher current densities of 100 mA cm−2 for HER and 50 mA cm−2 for OER, the overpotentials are only 159 mV and 350 mV, respectively. Additionally, a two-electrode setup using this catalyst achieves a current density of 10 mA cm−2 with a minimal cell voltage of 1.56 V. The insights gained from this study will contribute to the advancement of electrocatalysts for energy conversion technologies.

A global fairtrade partnership needed to address injustices in the supply chains of clean energy technology materials

Abstract Renewable sources produced close to one-third of the world’s electricity in 2023. However, a limited but growing body of research suggests rapid renewable energy development is leading to conflict and resource exploitation in energy-transitioning communities. Such injustices are attributable to the extractivist nature of renewable energy development, where raw materials, also known as Clean Energy Technology Materials (CETMs), are in limited quantities and often concentrated in resource-constrained zones in the Global South. In this perspective, we call for an urgent need for energy justice considerations in CETM’s supply chain. We used demand projection data from 2020 to 2040 to look into the effects of important CETMs like nickel, cobalt, and lithium on distributive justice. We also examined the potential of these effects to tackle systemic injustices such as conflict, labor exploitation, and transactional colonialism. Next, we analyzed global mining production data from the United States Geological Survey using a CETM life cycle lens and found that increasing demand for these materials is exacerbating restorative injustices, particularly in the Global South. Finally, building on the above evidence, we called for the creation of multi-stakeholder partnerships and the establishment of fair trade standards across the critical CETM supply chain. Graphical abstract Highlights Here, we analyzed the projected demand growth for selected clean energy technology materials by 2040 relative to 2020 levels using data from the International Energy Agency, visualized their global mining production using data from the United States Geological Survey, explained how the demand for these materials is exacerbating certain injustices, and recommended multi-stakeholder partnerships across the supply chain of these materials. Discussion The rapid growth of renewable energy technologies is creating injustices throughout the supply chain of clean energy technology materials (CETM). A lack of any energy justice framework across CETMs’ extraction, processing, decommissioning, and recycling is exacerbating restorative injustices, especially in the Global South. By examining the projected demands and geospatial patterns for the extraction of minerals, metals, and other materials essential for clean energy technology development, the inequities faced by impoverished, marginalized, and Indigenous communities become apparent. We argue that if coffee can have fair trade standards across its supply chain, why can’t we have similar considerations for the CETMs? There is a need to include transparency in the sustainability, ethics, and energy efficiency of CETM extraction and processing through global partnerships across its supply chain.

Optimized Lithium(I) Recovery from Geothermal Brine of Germencik, Türkiye, Utilizing an Aminomethyl phosphonic Acid Chelating Resin

ABSTRACT This study investigates the performance of Lewatit TP 260 ion exchange resin for the efficient recovery of lithium (Li(I)) from geothermal water sourced from the Germencik Geothermal Power Plant in Türkiye. A series of batch sorption experiments were performed to evaluate the influence of key parameters, including resin dosage, solution pH, temperature, initial Li(I) concentration, and contact time, on the Li(I) recovery process. The optimal conditions were determined to be a resin dose of 0.5 g per 25 mL of geothermal water, pH in the range of 6–8, and a temperature of 25°C. Under these conditions, the resin achieved a maximum Li(I) recovery rate of 71% from the geothermal water. Sorption isotherms were further analyzed using the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) models. Among these, the Langmuir model provided the best fit (R² = 0.9841), suggesting a maximum sorption capacity (qm) of 4.31 mg/g. Continuous recovery experiments conducted in column mode confirmed the practical applicability of Lewatit TP 260, achieving a total sorption capacity of 0.41 mg Li(I)/mL resin. The findings exhibit the potential of this resin as a viable sorbent for sustainable Li(I) extraction from geothermal brines, supporting the development of green energy technologies and contributing to the circular economy.

Assessing the impact of energy R&D on green growth in OECD countries: a CS-ARDL analysis

AbstractSince the introduction of the OECD innovation and green growth strategies in 2007 and 2011, respectively, the OECD countries have been actively engaged in supporting green energy R&D to accelerate the development of clean energy technologies. Specifically, the OECD recognizes that both renewable energy R&D and energy efficiency R&D are key components of a low-carbon and sustainable energy system. This study aims to assess the impact of disaggregated energy R&D on green growth in 21 high-income OECD countries, from 1990 to 2021. Two key green growth indicators, namely energy productivity and CO2 productivity, are used as response variables. The long-run CS-ARDL model results show that renewable energy R&D and fossil fuel R&D have a positive and significant impact on energy productivity in all model specifications, with renewable energy R&D exhibiting a relatively stronger impact compared to fossil fuel R&D. The long-run effects of the disaggregated energy R&D variables on CO2 productivity align with the results of the energy productivity model. Based on the study's findings, policymakers should consider reallocating the energy R&D budget towards renewable energy R&D, fostering international collaboration between OECD countries in renewable energy R&D, and implementing technology-specific policies to encourage investment in renewable energy technologies.

RIME-CNN-BiLSTM: A novel optimized hybrid enhanced model for significant wave height prediction in the Gulf of Mexico

Accurate prediction of SWH in the ocean is critical to the development of ocean energy technologies. However, existing forecasting models have limitations in accuracy and reliability, which directly affect the efficiency of ocean energy utilization. To address this problem, this paper proposes a new ocean SWH prediction model, RIME-CNN-BiLSTM, for predicting 1, 6, 12, and 24 h SWH at three buoy observing stations in the Gulf of Mexico. The model combines the RIME algorithm, CNN, and BiLSTM to comprehensively capture multiple parameters that affect wave heights, such as sea breeze, waves, barometric pressure, and temperature. The parameters of the CNN-BiLSTM model are optimized by the RIME algorithm, which significantly improves the prediction accuracy and generalization ability. Compared with the traditional model, RIME-CNN-BiLSTM captures the nonlinear features more accurately, has better prediction ability for outliers, and shows stronger generalization performance in different sea areas of the Gulf of Mexico. In terms of predicting the wave height in the next 24 h, the improvements are 7.065%, 3.646% and 5.186%, respectively. The results show that the RIME-CNN-BiLSTM model performs well in all prediction time periods, significantly outperforms other benchmark models, and is able to accurately capture nonlinear features and effectively predict outliers.

Cutting-edge technologies and recent modernization on multifunctional perovskite materials for green energy conversion and spintronic applications

This featured letter summarizes the recent developments in green energy and spintronic technologies based on multifunctional i.e., multiferroic (MF) and magnetoelectric (ME) materials. These are non-toxic materials, find applications in spintronic, non-volatile memory devices, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), photovoltaics and next generation IC miniaturization devices. Recent studies on MF and ME materials have probed and analyzed significant properties such as evidence of photo-response and significant power conversion efficiency (PCE) of multiferroic-based solar cells (SCs), evidence of electro-caloric effect (ECE) which find usage in non-toxic solid state refrigeration devices, photo- and electro-catalytic activities for green hydrogen generation, magnon-phonon coupling and existence of magnon polarons which can facilitate spintronic device technology and thermal Hall effect and, hybrid nano-generators utilized to empower portable electronic devices. All such applications are comprehensively analyzed in-depth in this letter.

Does green credit promote the performance of new energy companies and how? The role of R&D investment and financial development

Green credit, as the first green financial tool implemented in China, is playing an increasingly important role in new energy technological development. However, does green credit promote the performance of new energy companies (PNEC) and how? What roles do research and experimental development (R&D) investment and financial development play? These issues need to be revealed. Existing studies on China's green credit are mainly based on national/provincial data or a policy dummy variable, and those on firm performance are mainly based on a single indicator. Accordingly, this paper studies the impact of green credit with the data at the corporate level, and constructs a comprehensive index based on multiple indicators to present PNEC. The results of a moderated mediator model suggest the direct and indirect positive (R&D intensity as a mediator) effects of green credit on PNEC, and the negative and positive moderating roles of financial development in the first and second half paths of the mediating mechanism respectively. Moreover, there are regional disparities in the effects of green credit and the roles of R&D investment and financial development. Finally, this study puts forward some policy implications on how to effectively exert the stimulating effect of green credit.

The role of green finance in the construction of new energy system: Evidence from China

Under the rapid development of energy transition and new energy technologies, it is of practical significance to construct a new energy system and explore the empowerment mechanism of green finance on the new energy system. This study conducted empirical research, analyzing the specific theoretical mechanism and transmission path of green finance in constructing a new energy system. The research results indicate that green finance directly promotes the construction of a new energy system, further driving the improvement of technical innovation levels, and facilitating the establishment of more environmental protection institutions, thereby indirectly promoting the construction of a new energy system. Additionally, green finance has a stronger promotion effect under conditions of lower openness levels, economic development levels, urbanization rates, and proportions of the tertiary industry. Moreover, under higher government fiscal expenditure conditions, green finance also generates a greater promotion effect. As the development level of the new energy system increases, the marginal impact of green finance first rises, then stabilizes, and ultimately decreases. Within the empirical analysis framework, this paper provides a novel perspective on the empowerment of green finance, contributing to the construction of a new energy system under new development conditions.

SCIENCES IN PHYSICSMETHODICAL MEANS OF DEVELOPING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ENERGY-EFFICIENT TECHNOLOGIES BASED ON INTEGRATION

Energy-saving technologies are becoming a critical component to help address the growing challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and energy security. In this context, the integration of different sciences in physics is a fundamental approach to developing knowledge in this field. This article discusses methodological means of developing knowledge about energy-saving technologies by integrating physics with other scientific disciplines such as material science, thermodynamics, and engineering. This paper presents case studies of energy-saving technologies that use photonics, thermoelectric materials, nanotechnology, and smart energy systems to demonstrate how such methods can aid in adaptation and mitigation efforts while providing a scientific basis for sustainable technologies. Furthermore, this article outlines the critical role of interdisciplinary collaborations among scientists from different scientific disciplines in advancing research and development of sustainable energy technologies.

Development of Potential Electrocatalyst: Highly Multiporous WO3–rGO Nanocomposites for Enhancing Electrocatalytic Oxygen Evolution Reactions

AbstractThe development of sustainable energy technologies, such as fuel cells and metal–air batteries, necessitates the use of a highly efficient electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution process. The fabrication of WO3–rGO nanocomposites results in the formation of a multiporous nanostructure. The catalytic activity of highly multiporous WO3–rGO nanocomposites containing multiporous nanostructures is shown to be significant. The catalyst has the potential to facilitate highly reactive anodic oxygen reactions, hence augmenting the synergistic impact of interfacial charge transfer and the porous structure of WO3–rGO nanocomposites. The findings of this work indicate that the use of WO3–rGO nanocomposites as electrocatalysts exhibits a considerable overpotential value of 350 mV, a Tafel slope of 67 mV dec−1, good stability, roughness factor, and turnover frequency for the process of oxygen evolution in real‐world scenarios.

Preface

With the rapid progress of science and technology, the research and application in the fields of energy technology and materials science are increasingly in-depth, and experts and scholars around the world are committed to promoting the innovation and development in these areas. It is against this background that we welcomed the highly anticipated 2024 8th International Conference on Energy Technology and Materials Science (ICETMS 2024). The conference was successfully held in Chongqing, China from May 31st to June 2nd, 2024, attracting the participation of almost 100 scholars, researchers and industry experts from all over the world. The convening of this conference has benefited from the active participation and enthusiastic support of experts and scholars around the world. We received a large number of high-quality paper submissions, covering New and Renewable Energy Technologies, Traditional Energy Transformation and Cleaner Production, Energy Storage Technologies and Battery Materials, Energy Security and Sustainable Development, Energy System Simulation and Optimization, and many other aspects. After a rigorous review process, excellent papers from different countries and regions were finally accepted, which fully demonstrated the latest research results and innovative ideas in these domains. In the course of the conference, we invited well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad to give keynote speeches and reports, and their wonderful speeches provided valuable academic inspiration and reflection for the participants. Among these, with the research Industrial Fabrication of Electrocatalysts for Green Hydrogen Production, Prof Hui Pan (University of Macau, China) introduced the design, synthesis and possible industrial production of novel electrocatalysts for oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions (HER and OER). And his research demonstrated that multi-metal compound systems were catalytically active for OER and HER in electrochemical energy devices, which may find practical application in hydrogen-energy technologies. At the same time, we also organized a number of group discussions, providing participants with more in-depth communication and interaction opportunities. The successful holding of this conference not only promoted the academic exchanges and cooperation in the fields of energy technology and materials science, but also injected new vitality and impetus into the development of these domains. Finally, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks and high respect to all the experts and scholars who participated in this conference. 3nd ASEAN International Conference on Energy and Environment (AICEE) Nusa Dua Bali, Indonesia, 24 August 2023 Accelerating a Just, Secure, and Resilient Energy Transition in ASEAN through Innovation and Interconnectivity Introduction ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is an intergovernmental organization within ASEAN structure that represents the 10 ASEAN Member States’ (AMS) interests in the energy sector. With their growing population and economic growth, AMS are expected to be a new global epicentrum of energy market in the future. This trend pushes energy security as one of the highest priorities in energy development in the region. On the other hand, the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II: 2021-2025, a regional blueprint on energy cooperation, has a theme and sub-theme in which embracing energy transition is one of the key elements to achieve regional energy security and environmental sustainability. To further accelerate the progress towards a sustainable future, enhance collaboration among various sectors, and bridge the gap between academia, policymakers, and businesses, we are delighted to announce that the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) will be hosting the 3rd ASEAN International Conference on Energy and Environment (AICEE) in conjunction with The ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2023 and The 41st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) on August 24-25, 2023. These events will offer a platform for academics, practitioners, and stakeholders to network, exchange ideas, and explore innovative solutions to address the challenges of energy and the environment. The conference will take place in Bali, a stunning island renowned for its breathtaking scenery and rich cultural heritage. This unique location will provide participants with a memorable and immersive experience, allowing them to explore the fascinating local culture and gain a deeper understanding of the region’s energy and environmental issues. The event promises to be a remarkable occasion fostering collaboration and driving progress towards a sustainable future. This year’s AICEE is the third edition of the annual flagship conference held by ACE. Under the 3rd AICEE, we received 145 extended abstracts, accepted 96 extended abstracts to be compiled as Conference Proceeding and invited 76 authors to submit their full papers. To proceed with the publication, 59 papers are recommended to be the IOP Publishing process, and 44 papers are accepted for the IOP Publication of 2023 AICEE Volume.
