The role of managerial competencies in managing resources for sustainable development strategy in SMEs

Purpose Grounded in upper echelon (UE) theory, this study aims to examine the role of managerial competencies (business experience, financial literacy and digital literacy) in sustainable development strategy, with resource management as a mediator. Design/methodology/approach The empirical data collection is conducted through a survey completed by 297 top management teams of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in Pakistan. Structural equation modelling in Smart PLS is used to substantiate the hypotheses. Findings The findings reveal that financially and digitally literate managers significantly contribute to the sustainable development strategies of SMEs. However, experienced managers do not focus significantly on sustainable development strategies. Resource management partially mediates the nexus between financial literacy and sustainable development strategy, as well as between digital literacy and sustainable development strategy. In contrast, resource management does not mediate the nexus between business experience and sustainable development strategy. Research limitations/implications This study recommends that SMEs should prioritize managers with digital and financial literacy over those with experience. SMEs led by a management team with digital and financial literacy are more effective in resource management for sustainable development practices, whereas experienced managers may not significantly prioritize managing resources for sustainability. Originality/value While research based on the UE theory significantly contributes to the body of knowledge on sustainable development, the role of managerial competencies, particularly business experience, financial literacy and digital literacy, in sustainable development strategy via resource management is neglected. This research fills this gap in the context of UE theory and thereby enriches the literature.

Entrepreneurship education, digital literacy and computational thinking insights for business sustainability among housewives

Introduction. Development of digital literacy and computational thinking among housewives lie in its potential to address a critical gap in the understanding of digital education and empowerment. This study seeks to ascertain the viability of family enterprises based on digital marketing. In detail, this study examines the relationship between entrepreneurship education, digital literacy, and business sustainability through computational thinking. Study participants and methods. This research involved a quantitative approach using a self-administered survey method. The population in this study were housewives in several regions in Indonesia and the data will be analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Sumatra, Java, and Bali homemakers participated in this study. The three islands represent Indonesia's west, center, and east regions. We offered 350 Google Forms questions sent via WhatsApp. Results. The results indicates that entrepreneurship education has a significant effect on business sustainability (t-value =16.620, p-value =.000), and computational thinking skills (t-value =10.916, p-value =.000). In addition, digital literacy has a significant effect on business sustainability (t-value =4.612, p-value =.000), and computational thinking skills (t-value =3.738, p-value =.000). Later, there is robust link between computational thinking and business sustainability (t-value =3.712, p-value =.000). The mediating estimation indicates that computational thinking can mediate the connectivity between entrepreneurship education and business sustainability (t-value =3.398, p-value =.001), as well as digital literacy and business sustainability (t-value =2.516, p-value =.012). Conclusion. Empowering housewives with entrepreneurship education, digital literacy, and computational thinking holds practical significance in managing their business and community development. This research extends beyond housewives empowerment to potential policy assistance and housewives educational reforms to build inclusive business matters.

SME FINANCING THROUGH FINTECH: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF TRENDS IN NIGERIA AND THE USA

In this comprehensive review, we examine the burgeoning influence of Financial Technology (FinTech) on Small and Medium Enterprises' (SMEs) financing, with a focus on comparative trends between Nigeria and the USA. The paper aims to dissect how FinTech innovations have redefined the landscape of SME financing, facilitating enhanced accessibility and efficiency in financial services. Through an extensive literature review that spans academic journals, industry reports, and case studies, this study synthesizes current knowledge on the subject, offering a panoramic view of the FinTech ecosystem and its implications for SMEs in both developed and developing economies. Our analysis reveals that in the USA, FinTech has dramatically transformed SME financing by introducing alternative lending platforms, which provide more agile and less cumbersome financing options than traditional banks. This shift has not only improved the speed of funding but also expanded the availability of capital to a broader range of businesses. Conversely, in Nigeria, FinTech's impact is seen in the democratization of financial services, where mobile money and digital banking platforms have significantly increased SMEs' access to financial resources, overcoming historical barriers such as lack of collateral and banking infrastructure. The paper identifies key factors driving FinTech adoption in SME financing, including regulatory environments, technological advancements, and SMEs' growing demand for flexible financial solutions. It also highlights the challenges and opportunities inherent in leveraging FinTech for economic development and SME growth in both countries.
 Conclusively, the study underscores the transformative potential of FinTech in bridging the financing gap faced by SMEs, while also pointing out the necessity for supportive policies, digital literacy, and infrastructure development to fully harness FinTech's benefits. This review contributes to the ongoing dialogue on FinTech's role in economic empowerment, offering insights that could inform policymakers, practitioners, and researchers interested in the nexus between technology and small business financing.

Development of Digital Literacy and Digital Empathy with Micro-learning via Activities on Metaverse

This research is related mainly to the study of the results on the development of digital literacy and digital empathy with micro-learning via activities on metaverse. The main concept of this study is based on the integration of micro-learning process with metaverse technology in order to encourage and provide learners with opportunities to create bodies of knowledge and engage in joint activities through the network system that can be accessed anywhere and anytime. The objectives of this research are (1) to synthesize the conceptual framework of the micro-learning via activities on metaverse, (2) to design the micro-learning process via activities on metaverse, and (3) to study the results of the development of digital literacy and digital empathy with the micro-learning via activities on metaverse. Thereby, this study relies on the pre-experimental research method with one-shot case study, in which the research participants are 30 undergraduate students of Pakse Teacher Training College, Lao People's Democratic Republic, who were derived by means of cluster sampling and well protected under the policy of confidentiality and anonymity. The research results show that (1) the students’ digital literacy and digital empathy, after learning with the micro-learning via activities on metaverse, are at very good level (mean = 43.20, SD = 2.35), and (2) the overall satisfaction towards the micro-learning via activities on metaverse is at high level (mean = 4.42, SD = 0.78). In reference to the above research results, it is evident that the micro-learning via activities on metaverse enables the students to quickly develop their digital literacy and digital empathy after receiving new experiences and new knowledge because the knowledge gained from the learning of this style is easy to remember and can be applied in an effective manner.

Digital resources and parental mediation parallelly mediate the impact of SES on early digital literacy among Chinese preschoolers

ABSTRACT Digital literacy development begins in early childhood and contributes to a widening digital divide. The present study examines the complex interplay between family socioeconomic status (SES), home digital resources (HDR), parental mediation (PM), and early digital literacy development in young children. A survey titled Home Digital Practice Survey (HDPS) was responded to by 1,876 Chinese parents of preschoolers (Mage = 4.28 years, SD = 0.98, 48.8% girls). Results, derived from both correlation analysis and structural equation modeling, established that (1) there was a significant correlation between family SES and early digital literacy in children (β = .102, p < .01), and (2) HDR (β = 0.285, p < .001) and PM (β = 0.290, p < .001) served as simultaneous mediators linking family SES and early digital literacy. The findings are discussed as relevant to minimizing the digital divide and enhancing children's digital literacy.

China recognized the importance of AI in shaping the future global economic, military and geopolitical environment, and launched the "Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan." which aims to become a global leader in AI by 2030. The research method used is prescriptive analysis and qualitative data analysis. Based on the results of the study, there are 4 (four) important points to realize this, namely the alignment of regulations related to cyber and digital in Indonesia with the initiation with revisions both in the form of proposed new articles and / or reviews in Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian National Army, then digital infrastructure development in Indonesia, digital literacy development in Indonesia, and appropriate personnel mobilization strategies based on the state of human resources in Indonesia.&#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D; &#x0D;

Generative Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Architecture Education to Develop Digital Literacy and Holistic Competency

This research investigates the impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) on digital literacy development and holistic competencies in Architecture education. The research design focuses on applying GenAI tools such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, BricsCAD BIM, and VR/AR software and their influence on architectural students' overall competencies. This paper uses a mixed research approach combining a case study of Architecture students' progress in a residential revisitation project, using Midjourney, BricsCAD BIM, and VR/AR software, with an online questionnaire survey administered to 350 undergraduate students at two leading universities in Mainland China and Hong Kong in the 2023-2024 school year. This approach aims to deepen understanding of GenAI's influence on conceptual creativity, initiative, self-management, and stress tolerance within a holistic competency framework. The research results indicate that architecture students frequently use GenAI tools during the design concept stage, suggesting their relevance to specific pedagogy in-studio learning and conceptual creativity. Additionally, the findings reveal a potential correlation between frequent GenAI tool usage, improved time management, and reduced anxiety among Architecture students. The results enhance understanding of digital technology in Architecture education while providing valuable insights for future GenAI implementations. The study highlights the potential benefits of incorporating GenAI, emphasizing their role in fostering creativity, effective time management, and stress tolerance among Architecture students.

Perspektif sebagai Pengembangan Literasi Media Digital Mahasiswa

Digital media literacy is an understanding of understanding and interpreting information spread across various media, including social media. Behavioural transformation in digital media literacy is the key to using social media wisely amidst open information. Digital media literacy in the digital space is the main key in various aspects of life, including activities such as banking transactions, learning processes, searching for information, job opportunities, education, exploring modern or new lifestyles, utilizing facilities, checking weather conditions, looking for a life partner, as well as establishing social relations with UTY students. The development of media technology is directly proportional to the increase in the number of internet media users in Indonesia, which is currently recorded at 213 million at the beginning of 2023, equivalent to 77% of the total population of Indonesia with internet penetration and contribution of around 99.16 at the age of 13-18 years, and age 19-34 years old, there are around 98.64%. The results of the research obtained are that UTY students' understanding of digital literacy related to the Perspektif account has a positive impact by creating unique and inspiring narratives, playing an active role in creating content, connecting emotionally to stories on the Perspektif Instagram account, and forming social and cultural bonds. The unique and inspiring stories in UTY Perspektif make a significant contribution to students' understanding and development of digital literacy through various identified dimensions.

THE ROLE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN ENHANCING THE EFFICIENCY OF MECHANISMS FOR IMPLEMENTING PUBLIC POLICY ON MANAGING SOCIAL CONFLICTS IN UKRAINE

In the article, the role of digital technologies in enhancing the efficiency of mechanisms implementing public policy for managing social conflicts in Ukraine is examined. The analysis underscores the importance of utilizing digital innovations, such as e-governance, mobile applications, and digital platforms, in fostering interaction between civil society and the government. The advantages of digital tools, including increased transparency, active citizen participation, and prompt response to social conflicts, are highlighted. Emphasis is placed on how the development of digital literacy in the population contributes to the implementation of innovations and the establishment of a sustainable mechanism for managing social conflicts in Ukraine. It is emphasized that Ukraine, with its multi-layered socio-cultural environment, faces unique challenges in the realm of social conflicts. Digital technologies, considering the peculiarities of the national context, can act as a catalyst for improving understanding among various social groups, providing broader access to information, and enabling the expression of diverse perspectives. In the conclusions of the article, the potential of digital technologies as tools for constructively resolving social conflicts and strengthening social coordination is highlighted. The importance of continued investments in digital infrastructure and programs for the development of digital literacy is underscored for the sustainable implementation of digital mechanisms for managing social conflicts in Ukrainian society.

Digital literacy of university students in non-core training directions

Introduction. Forming and improving the readiness and ability of students in non-core (non-IT) areas of training to effectively, productively (safely) use digital devices, programs, technologies, apply digital competencies (knowledge, abilities and skills) to solve educational problems in the context of educational and professional activities is one of the important goals of educational standards in modern universities.Purpose setting. Purpose of the study is the analysis of the problems of the concept, structure and levels of digital literacy of university students in non-core areas of training.Methodology and methods of the study. Research methods are theoretical analysis and synthesis of research results on the definition, structural understanding and level typology of digital literacy of modern university students in non-core areas of training. The methodological basis of the study was the conceptual provisions and principles of the competency-based and personal-activity approaches.Results. Currently, there are theoretical tasks of developing an integrative model of digital literacy and practical tasks of increasing the digital literacy of students in non-core fields of study, including to the level where the student not only consumes digital competencies, but is able and ready to use them in the process independently or jointly with other students and teachers setting and solving educational and professional problems, including in the context of new professional specializations or even professions arising as a result of the digitalization of their work. The leading role in this process is played in the intrapersonal context by the cognitive components of literacy, and in the interpersonal context by communicative and moral-ethical ones.Conclusions. The author summarizes the results of studies on the formation and development of digital literacy among university students in non-core areas of training. The importance and promise of systematic, holistic work in the context of the formation and development of digital literacy of university students in non-core areas of training is noted. The prospects for theoretical and empirical study of this problem are connected precisely with the study of this component and its integrative role in the formation and development of digital literacy of university students in non-core fields.

The rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) in the last 15 years has made people aware of digital technology is importance in life. However, the impact of this technology has created an "information tsunami" on a large scale, even an explosion of information explosions (information explosions) at any time. It spreads widely without knowing boundaries, space and time, so that people often get confused about which information is correct and which is false. Hoax, which one can educate and which one plunges. This research wants to explore the urgency of digital media literacy in dealing with the flood of information amidst the ongoing digital disruption. Media and digital literacy can be used as an approach that focuses on critically analyzing media content and the right way to behave. When the Internet presented a variety of new media platforms, the era of media convergence occurred; literacy is very important for society because it can be a guide (guide) in behaving, including selecting and analyzing any information received from digital media. In this study, researchers used a qualitative descriptive method, using a literature study method, because this research is intended to explore the phenomenon of the development of digital literacy as one of the new challenges in today's era. Digital Literacy as a Meta-Cognitive Component of Younger Students’ Intellectual and Creative Potential in Foreign Language Lessons

The article reflects on the results of the digital literacy study in the structure of the meta-cognitive component of the intellectual and creative potential of younger schoolchildren in foreign language lessons. The team of authors substantiates the relevance of approaches to understanding digital literacy as an element of meta-cognitive skills and its increasing role in the development of language education in modern conditions of electronic information society. The scientific and analytical baggage of scientific and pedagogical research of Kazakhstani and foreign authors made it possible to identify the features of universality and meta-subjectivity inherent in the psychological and pedagogical phenomenon of digital literacy. Hypothesis: self-mastery of a foreign language in the modern information and communication space acquires the features of meta-subjects under the influence of digital literacy of students. The revealed similarity of skills and knowledge of speech-thinking activity and digital literacy as metacognitive categories and aspects of meta-knowledge form the intellectual and creative potential of a student’s personality. The results of the study prove that digital literacy as an element of the meta-cognitive component of the intellectual and creative potential of students has an intensifying effect on the development of speech-thinking skills in younger schoolchildren. The results obtained are based on experimental data confirming that the integration of techniques, methods, and means for the development of digital literacy acts as an intensifier of speech-thinking processes, increasing the effectiveness of teaching a foreign language in primary school. Among the defiantly difficult is the task set by the author’s team: to create a universal psychological and pedagogical algorithm to improve the meta-cognitive component of the intellectual and creative potential of a younger student with the actualization of the methodology of digital literacy in the humanities of the language cycle (state languages, literature, foreign languages, social studies, history, etc.). The training sample consisted of data obtained in the course of ascertaining and modeling experiments from real texts written by schoolchildren. Each text was checked and marked up by two experts in accordance with the levels of psychological, pedagogical, and subject competencies, which made it possible to determine the dynamics of digital literacy of younger schoolchildren in the structure of metacognitive activity of students learning foreign languages, which makes it possible to verify it as the core of the intellectual and creative potential of the student. The authors believe that the digital literacy of a modern student is a “soft power” of a new type of linguodidactics since it allows reformatting the speech and behavioral value matrix of the younger generation under the influence of the translation of priority standards of behavior in a particular ethnic society. Digital literacy is an unconditional way to expand the possibilities of developing an individual system of metacognition, determining the significant potential of its integration with the content of the foreign language teaching program in elementary grades.

An investigation of students and teachers’ new media literacy: the contributing characteristics with the moderator role of gender

This study aims to investigate students and teachers’ new media literacy in addition to the contributing factors with a relatively large sample size. In this sense, the current study is considered unique as it provides findings from both student and teacher participants, and investigates the contributing factors to their new media literacy with the moderation of gender. The new media literacy framework was adopted as the theoretical base, and students and teachers’ new media literacy was investigated in terms of consuming and prosuming dimensions. The data were collected from 1195 students studying in primary, middle, and high schools (including rural and urban areas) and 581 teachers. The findings revealed that teachers’ literacy is higher than students’ at all educational levels for all dimensions of the new media literacy framework. It was also found that students’ educational level and ICT teachers’ subject field positively contribute to their literacies in all dimensions. While teachers’ age negatively contributes only to their prosuming skills, it has no influence on their consuming skills. Finally, no significant moderating effect of gender was observed on these relationships while it is found as a predictor of both students and teachers’ prosuming skills, and also teachers’ functional consuming skills. For these skills in both groups, male participants demonstrated higher literacy than females. Rather than generational differences, the findings underline the role of formal and informal experience in the development of digital literacies, particularly in critical dimensions, and were further discussed based on the current literature.

The research aims to validate, evaluate, and develop the Android-based We Fit App for the community as well as educational learning media for improving sports literacy and physical literacy in the era of digitalization. The research method uses the Likert scale and the System Usability Scale (SUS), involving the public and students. Research results show that our Fit app is successful and can be said to be worthwhile in improving digital literacy and physical literacy in society, with a high level of user satisfaction. Includes features of sports articles, brief insights, learning videos, quizzes, and reading references supporting the development of digital literacy in the world of sports The average user stated that the Kita Fit app's validity score reached 4.7, which indicates that it is worth using and effective when used. Here's a summary of the application draft results from the embroidery that has been made. The Influence of Audio Stories on Enhancing Digital Literacy In Early Childhood: A Survey Study

Digital literacy in children is the ability to understand information from the various information they receive. Introducing digital literacy to children is very important, in this era children use digital technology more often. Therefore, it is important for parents to ensure that children have a good understanding of how to use technology properly and that it can be used in positive activities. The aim of this research is to find out how to use audio stories to improve digital literacy skills in children. This research can also see how parents participate in introducing digital literacy to children, this media can help children develop developmental aspects in children. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this research provide important knowledge about research developments related to the development of digital literacy. Children can understand listening and improving words, retelling and most importantly children can express what is on their mind and use language that is easy for children and other people to understand. Researchers can conclude that it is very important to instill digital literacy in children from a young age because this development is very important to be instilled from a young age, this development is very influential on cognitive development in early childhood.

Development of Digital Literacy for Teachers

Abstract. Digital literacy is important for everyone, including educators who must appreciate the value of utilizing technology responsibly. At this turn, the community service project took place at Muhammadiyah Trensains High School Sragen in Central Java. One of Muhammadiyah's institutions prioritizes the integration of science and Islamic boarding school curricula. It can be challenging for people to stay up to date with the newest technology and tools in the digital world because it is continuously expanding and changing. Workshops on digital literacy can teach participants how to utilize new tools and platforms efficiently as well as how to stay current with the newest technological developments. Digital citizenship, which entails using technology in a responsible, ethical, and courteous way, can be promoted through training on digital literacy. Digital ethics, privacy, and security, as well as appropriate online conduct, are topics that participants can learn about. Following observations made during participant Q&amp;A sessions, instructional materials are distributed. Participants also participated in hands-on activities and got feedback via post-training evaluations. The findings show that workshop attendees understand journalistic ethics, the characteristics of digital media communications, and the ability to produce supportive messages and content for tolerance in the social media landscape. Overall, from the workshop teachers can conduct and apply journalistic norms and explain the news from a specific case that was shown to them. The workshop materials also include critical thinking exercises that can be utilized to round out teachers understanding of digital literacy
