Professional codes of morality and the professional codes of conduct of military personnel in different countries

This article presents a study on moral codes and professional codes of conduct. Various professional codes of conduct were considered, including the Samurai Code of Conduct, Code of Chivalry, Pirate Code, Hippocratic Oath and Medical Oath, Red Cross Code of Conduct, Galilean Oath, Code of Apparel Industry Partnership, Ethics in Computer Programming and Software Development, Moral hacking. Special emphasis is placed on Military Ethics and the morale of the serviceman. The article recognizes the golden rule of global ethics as the most important and simple truth for distinguishing right from wrong in human behavior.

Comprehensive analysis of wave interactions and resulting spall damage in layered heterogeneous medium under impact

The effect of dynamic spall damage on the response of layered medium subjected to one-dimensional impact involving an impactor and a multi-layered target is investigated. The study examines the damage caused by elastic waves below the Hugoniot Elastic Limit (HEL) during impact events. Analytical expressions of stress and particle velocity derived from mass and momentum conservation principles are utilized to solve the wave interactions within the impactor-target system, considering reflections, transmissions, and wave interactions between layers. These analytical expressions, integrated into a computational framework, facilitate the monitoring of material responses following each wave interaction, thereby analysing the impact response of the layered medium. Wave interactions, resulting in tensile stresses, that can cause damage to the target have been identified. A strain-based damage initiation and evolution law is incorporated into the developed computer program to predict damage in each layer of a medium. Damage alters the medium’s impact behaviour by decreasing stress magnitude and inducing temporal delays in the response due to attenuated wave propagation speed. The occurrences of tensile stress are explored, analyzing spatial and temporal variations of multiple damage incidents within the layered medium. The tension at the interface between two layers can induce damage in one or both adjacent layers, leading to debonding between layers. The effect of damage on the impact response of the medium is analysed by comparing the results for the damaged and undamaged target scenarios. The impact behaviour of a single-layer and a multi-layer target obtained from the present model, in terms of stress and particle velocity, is verified through Finite Element simulations of the identical impact problems, where the damage evolution criterion is incorporated using a VUMAT subroutine. The outcomes derived from this study align closely with Finite Element (FE) results.

AUTOMATION OF LABOR PROTECTION SYSTEM MANAGEMENT AT AN INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISE

In the hearing State, to which the Republic of Kazakhstan belongs, issues related to occupational safety and health at industrial enterprises, regardless of the form of ownership, are given quite a lot of attention. Because the citizens of the country are the main wealth of the country. If at large enterprises, including with the participation of foreign capital, the process of ensuring labor protection measures is organized to some extent, then at medium-sized and small businesses, work is practically not carried out. Today, in the subjects of medium and small businesses, the organization of accounting, control and timely instruction, if conducted in the old-fashioned way with an entry in journals or in word or excel documents, which today is not only not effective, but also does not ensure the full fulfillment of the duties of an occupational safety engineer and safety regulations (FROM and TB). The adopted Law on Digitalization, the tasks set by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in, require managers of industrial enterprises, technical specialists dealing with labor protection issues to radically change the organization of the process of ensuring the learning process, monitoring and compliance with safety and sanitary rules using information technology. The article presents a computer program capable of integrating into an automated industrial enterprise management system, in particular, into an automated workplace of an industrial safety engineer. The developed computer program allows employees of an industrial enterprise (of any division) to be instructed and tested in a remote format directly at the workplace; The practical application of the developed program on a small business entity during the year made it possible to increase the effectiveness of labor protection measures by 25 %, eliminate occupational injuries and reduce the level of safety violations by 75 %. Characterization of loading, relaxation, and recovery behaviors of high‐density polyethylene using a three‐branch spring‐dashpot model

AbstractThis paper presents an analysis of the stress evolution of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) at loading, relaxation, and recovery stages in a multi‐relaxation‐recovery (RR) test. The analysis is based on a three‐branch spring‐dashpot model that uses the Eyring's law to govern the viscous behavior. The spring‐dashpot model comprises two viscous branches to represent the short‐ and long‐term time‐dependent stress responses to deformation, and a quasi‐static branch to represent the time‐independent stress response. A fast numerical analysis framework based on genetic algorithms was developed to determine values for the model parameters so that the difference between the simulation and the experimental data could be less than 0.08 MPa. Using this approach, values of the model parameters were determined as functions of deformation and time so that the model can simulate the stress response at loading, relaxation, and recovery stages of the RR test. The simulation also generated 10 sets of model parameter values to examine their consistency. The study concludes that the three‐branch model can serve as a suitable tool for analyzing the mechanical properties of HDPE, and values for the model parameters can potentially be used to characterize the difference among PEs for their mechanical performance.Highlights Developed computer programs to determine parameter values automatically. Explained the unusual stress drop during stress recovery after unloading. Evaluated the statistical range of the parameter values for the good fitting.

Articulation of design processes, computing, Cybernetics, and BIM: A retrospective

This article explores the historical and theoretical developments of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the associated design processes. The study stems from ongoing doctoral research and aims to build an expanded understanding of the informatization process of architectural thought that led to BIM, considering contributions from the Cybernetics and Computing fields. The paper looks into the historical context of the 20th century and highlights the parallel and interdependent developments in Architecture, Cybernetics, and Computer Science. Based on a bibliographic review, retrospective, and theoretical analysis, this article emphasizes the contributions of works that systematized design processes and introduced systemic methodological approaches. Those works acknowledge the value of declaration and structuring of design information and contribute to incorporating computing into design processes and their development. The work presents the contributions of research institutions from the United Kingdom and the United States in developing computer programs for architecture, emphasizing that the geographical diversity of advancements in the field goes beyond these two lines. These computer programs were influenced by cybernetic theories, which were crucial for BIM development, and were created to produce models and systems to describe information. Finally, the importance of translating architectural thought into structured data that might be processable through computer programs, including BIM software, is highlighted, concluding that although BIM and developments of the current digital design processes followed the goal of assisting the production of North Atlantic architectural models, they originated from a broad and diverse historical and geopolitical context of the 20th century, involving theoretical, military, and professional research.

Regression dependence of the number growth dynamics of the biogas plants in Ukraine

The global environmental crisis forces the countries of the world to introduce and use new alternative means of energy production, in particular methods of extraction and processing of biogas to provide energy to the population. Therefore, the determination of the regression dependence, which describes the dynamics of the increase in the number of biogas plants and can be used when forecasting the number of such plants, is an urgent scientific and technical task. The purpose of the research is to determine the regression dependence, which describes the dynamics of the increase in the number of biogas plants and can be used when forecasting the number of such plants, with the aim of increasing the prevalence of the use of renewable energy sources, saving fossil energy sources and simultaneously reducing the intensity of environmental pollution. During the research, the method of regression analysis of the results of one-factor experiments and other paired dependencies was used with the selection of a rational type of function from the sixteen most common options according to the criterion of the maximum value of the correlation coefficient. Regression was carried out on the basis of linearizing transformations, which allow reducing the non-linear dependence to a linear one. The coefficients of the regression equations were determined by the method of least squares using the developed computer program "RegAnalyz", which is protected by a certificate of copyright registration for the work. An adequate regression relationship was obtained, which describes the dynamics of the increase in the number of biogas plants and can be used when forecasting the number of such plants. A graphical dependence was built that describes the dynamics of the increase in the number of biogas plants and allows to visually illustrate this dynamic and show sufficient convergence of theoretical results with actual data. It was established that the increase in the number of biogas plants in Ukraine during 2012-2019 grew according to a hyperbolic dependence.

Особливості проведення лабораторної роботи «Вимірювання опору розтіканню струму заземлюючих пристроїв, питомого опору ґрунту, ізоляції мереж та електроустановок» за допомогою віртуального лабораторного стенда

The materials of this scientific article consider the possibility of using a virtual laboratory stand during the laboratory work carried out by students of higher education institutions under the name «Measurement of the resistance to the spread of the current of grounding devices, the specific resistance of the soil, the insulation of networks and electrical installations». This laboratory work is included in the curriculum of the normative educational component «Occupational safety in the industry and civil protection». The article examines the specific advantages of using a virtual stand, in particular its role in improving the quality of the educational process, expanding access to resources, and optimizing educational costs. The purpose of this article is to consider the main possibilities of using the proposed virtual laboratory stand as an innovative approach in the study of complex technical processes and ensuring a high level of training during laboratory work on the topic «Measurement of resistance to the spread of current of grounding devices, soil resistivity, insulation of networks and electrical installations». This laboratory work is a component of the curriculum of the normative educational component aimed at forming in students the ability to identify, analyze and evaluate potential risks associated with the production environment, and which is entitled «Occupational Safety and Civil Protection». Particular attention is paid to the methodology of conducting laboratory work using a virtual stand, including steps for configuring the software, algorithms for performing measurements and analyzing the received data. Methods of simulating various measurement conditions are described in detail, allowing students to practice scenarios that would be difficult or dangerous to implement in real conditions. In the materials of the article, an overview of the interface and functionality of the developed computer program, which reproduces the control components of real laboratory equipment and is intended for the implementation of the functions of a virtual laboratory stand, is reviewed, the key capabilities of the proposed program are described, including the simulation of various laboratory scenarios and the availability of theoretical materials necessary for preparing and conducting a laboratory session, as well as a detailed reproduction of the appearance and control components of real experimental laboratory equipment, which contributes to the creation of a feeling of working with physical devices, the implementation of mathematical models that accurately describe the dependence of output parameters on input parameters. It was also found that the use of similar technologies during other laboratory works from the above-mentioned normative educational component requires further thorough systematic research and publication of their results.

Multi-criteria optimization calculations to improve the efficiency of an agricultural moving power units in fleet

BACKGROUND: Due to the fact that the development of one target function for separately assessing each agricultural machine used in the fleet seems insufficient to fully assess the efficiency of agricultural moving power units in fleet, a multi-criteria formulation of the problem was applied using the previously developed hardware and software complex MOVI 1.4 and the development of computer programs to carry out their optimization calculations of the efficiency of the agricultural moving power units in fleet the example of a specific farm. AIMS: The goal of the work is to develop software tools for carrying out multi-criteria optimization calculations in order to increase the efficiency of agricultural moving power units in fleet in the context of digitalization of agriculture. METHODS: The analysis is based on the collection of scientific publications, scientific articles and other sources of information on the development of research and experimental design work on the creation of intelligent transport and technical means and the improvement of methodological and software for multi-criteria optimization calculations of the efficiency of the agricultural moving power units in fleet. Methods of scientific generalization and statistical processing of available information and analytical materials from domestic and foreign sources were also used. RESULTS: To calculate the values of quality criteria for the MES fleet, an interface subprogram for MOVI 1.4 was developed in the Pascal programming language, adequate for implementing calculations based on mathematical models of criteria at trial points. After introducing functional and criterion restrictions, an admissible set and a set of Pareto-optimal solutions were constructed, and correlation graphs between quality criteria were constructed. The scientific novelty lies in the development of computer programs for multi-criteria justification of the efficiency of the agricultural moving power units in fleet. CONCLUSION: The practical value lies in the fact that the developed mathematical and software tools can be successfully used for multi-criteria optimization of the efficiency of an agricultural moving power units in fleet using the example of specific agricultural organizations, regions or the country as a whole.

Verification of Euler–Bernoulli beam theory model for wind blade structure analysis

This paper presents a computational tool for analyzing the structural response of wind turbine blades using the advanced Euler–Bernoulli Beam theory. The objective is to achieve efficient computation of blade structural response under aerodynamic loading without sacrificing computational accuracy. This study involves the development of a Python-based computer program as a numerical tool, which utilizes inputs such as blade geometry and aerodynamic loading from Blade Element Momentum theory. The program outputs axially varying moments of inertia, spatial deflections of the blade, and stress distributions within the blade. The numerical tool is verified by comparing the results with both analytical solutions and far more time-consuming commercial finite element solvers. One of the key contribution of this research is the application of the polygon algorithm, which efficiently calculates the moments of inertia of web-stiffened turbine blades along the blade length. It is shown herein that this algorithm significantly reduces computational time while maintaining numerical accuracy as compared to the results obtained from commercially available finite element codes. The study confirms that the advanced Euler–Bernoulli beam theory, when combined with the polygon algorithm, is capable of accurately predicting the structural response of cambered and twisted wind turbine blades during the initial design phase.

Особенности субъектного состава правоотношений, складывающихся по договору разработки программ для ЭВМ

статья посвящена рассмотрению вопросов, связанных с особенностями субъектного состава правоотношений, складывающихся по договору разработки программ для ЭВМ. Автором выявляются законодательные пробелы в установлении правового положения участников договорных отношений, вытекающих из договора разработки программ для ЭВМ. С учетом выявленных коллизий предложены основные направления совершенствования действующего законодательства по вопросам темы исследования. Представляется, что сделанные выводы и сформулированные предложения обладают особой теоретической и практической значимостью, а также научной новизной, и могут быть взяты за основу в практической и законотворческой деятельности (в рамках законопроектов, направленных на урегулирование субъектного состава правоотношений, складывающихся по договору разработки программ для ЭВМ). the article is devoted to the consideration of issues related to the peculiarities of the subject composition of legal relations formed under the contract for the development of computer programs. The author identifies legal gaps in the establishment of the legal status of the parties to contractual relations arising from the contract for the development of computer programs. Taking into account the identified conflicts, the main directions for improving the current legislation on the issues of the research topic are proposed. It seems that the conclusions drawn and the proposals formulated have special theoretical and practical significance, as well as scientific novelty, and can be taken as a basis in practical and legislative activities (within the framework of draft laws aimed at regulating the subject composition of legal relations that develop under a contract for the development of computer programs).

КОЛИЧЕСТВЕННО-КАЧЕСТВЕННАЯ ХАРАКТЕРИСТИКА КРИСТАЛЛИЧЕСКОГО СТРОЕНИЯ РОТОВОЙ ЖИДКОСТИ ЧЕЛОВЕКА С ИСПОЛЬЗОВАНИЕМ ТЕОРИИ ФРАКТАЛОВ. ЧАСТЬ I

The subject of the study is a dried drop of human oral fluid (facies). The goal is to propose a method for quantitative characteristic for the crystalline structure of oral fluid using fractal theory. The task is to create a computer program to calculate the fractal dimension, the area of crystals; length and width of the axes of mixed human saliva crystals. Methodology. To create a computer program for quantitative description of the crystalline structure of the oral fluid facies. The program was created within the framework of cooperation between Omsk State Medical University and Omsk State Technical University. The program, called FracSquare, was developed using the Python programming language version 3.1 and the built-in libraries math, cv2 and plt, which implement algorithms for finding the Minkowski fractal dimension, searching and counting pixels located inside the desired object, as well as an algorithm for finding the hypotenuse. After installing on the computer and launching the program, you need to load a photo of the saliva facies and calculate the fractal dimension and crystal area by pressing the appropriate buttons; the result will appear on the screen in the form of numerical values. Results. The computer program FracSquare allows you to mathematically calculate the fractal dimension, the area of crystals, and also measure the length and width of the branches of human saliva crystals. These digital values provide a quantitative characterization of the crystalline pattern of the saliva facies. Conclusion. The operator receives accurate digital values using a developed computer program, on its basis he can objectively evaluate the microcrystalline pattern of the facies of human saliva in order to identify pathological processes occurring in the body. The indicator of these processes is oral fluid.

Calculation of the elastic modulus of steel during tensile

The rational use of resources in the design of vessels and devices and ensuring their growing needs requires the performance of strength and stability calculations, which require the use of appropriate values of the modulus of elasticity during tension E. The purpose of the article is to improve the definition of the modulus of elasticity of steels during tension, the value of which is normalized by the current in Ukraine by regulatory documents. On the basis of standard tables, dot graphs of changes in modulus of elasticity of carbon, low-alloy, heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant chromium, heat-resistant and heat-resistant austenitic steels and iron-nickel-based alloys during tension E depending on temperature t were constructed and analyzed. It is proposed to approximate these dependencies with simple mathematical equations. As a result, it was determined that the dependence E = f (t) for carbon and low-alloy steels in the range of changing t from 20 oС to 300 oС is described by a simple linear equation E = – 100t + 2.01.105. When changing t from 300 oС to 450 oС inclusive, it is proposed to apply cubic regression E = – 5.33.10–3t3 + 5.2t2 – 1.827.103t + 3.95.105. In the above and further proposed formulas, the temperature t is substituted in °C, and the result is obtained in MPa. Heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant chromium steels in the temperature range t from 20 oС to 100 oС inclusive are characterized by the same modulus of elasticity during tension E = 2.15.105 MPa. The dependence of E = f (t) in the range of changing t from 100 oС to 250 oС inclusive can be described by the cubic regression E = 1.33.10–3t3 – 2.63.102t + 2.4.105, and when changing t from 250 oС to 600 oС inclusive – by cubic regression E = – 7.5.10–4t3 + 0.722t2 – 3.426.102t + 2.4748.105. The value of the modulus of elasticity during tension for heat-resistant and heat-resistant austenitic steels and iron-nickel-based alloys E = 2.15.105 MPa in the temperature range t from 20 oС to 100 oС. The dependence of E = f (t) in the range of changing t from 100 oС to 700 oС inclusive is described by the quadratic regression E = – 0.152t2 + 9.101t + 2.009.105. The obtained formulas make it possible to abandon the use of standard tables and additional interpolation of intermediate values of the modulus of elasticity of steels during tension when performing calculations, which in turn simplifies both the calculation itself and the development of appropriate computer programs. The average error value of the performed approximations is in the range from 0 % to 0.218 %, which indicates a high level of coincidence of the regression equations with the actual values. The use of the proposed formulas for calculating the modulus of elasticity of steels during tension makes it possible to simplify the calculation of vessels and devices for strength and stability.

This article examines the potential of using a virtual laboratory stand to perform laboratory work on the topic "Research and assessment of the electromagnetic field at workplaces," which is included in the curriculum of the discipline "Occupational safety in industry and civil protection." While performing this laboratory work, the student should familiarize himself with the requirements regarding the electromagnetic field and control the voltage levels at the workplaces. Based on the obtained results, the student must draw a conclusion regarding the possibility or impossibility of working in such conditions, as well as develop measures and means to achieve regulatory parameters.
 The purpose of this article is to highlight the main possibilities of using a virtual laboratory stand to perform laboratory work on the topic "Research and assessment of the electromagnetic field at workplaces" from the normative discipline "Occupational safety in the industry and civil protection".
 The article provides an overview of windows and instructions for using the developed computer program for a virtual laboratory stand. The key features of this program are described, such as the availability of theoretical materials on the performance of laboratory work, detailed reproduction of the appearance and control elements of real equipment, the implementation of mathematical models of dependencies between input and output parameters, the ability to return to any stage of the performance of this laboratory work and continue it from any point, as well as the ability to save the results as a text file for preparing a report.
 It was established that the use of similar technologies from other laboratory works in the discipline "Occupational safety in the industry and civil protection" require further research.

Comparative analysis of tabular and software methods of quantitative assessment of metamorphopsia

BACKGROUND: Identifying and evaluating the severity of patients complaints of metamorphopsia is an important component of the pre- and postoperative management of patients with vitreomacular interface conditions. To diagnose metamorphopsia, the Amsler grid is used, which allows to detect changes, but does not allow to quantify them. The authors of this article have developed a special software program for quantitative evaluation of metamorphopsia. AIM: The aim is to comparatively evaluate tabular and programmatic methods of metamorphopsia assessment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study involved 36 patients (36 eyes) divided into two groups: “macular hole” (20 patients, 20 eyes) and “epiretinal fibrosis” (16 patients, 16 eyes). Quantitative assessment of metamorphopsia was performed by two methods: tabular — using printed tables, which are an analog of M-CHARTS, and software — using the developed computer program. RESULTS: When comparing the integral parameters of the two methods using the Bland–Altman analysis, the results were highly comparable: the mean value of the difference between the PMs determined by the tabular and program methods was only –0.020°; the 95% confidence interval ranged from 0.277° to 0.235°, with 34 (94.4%) cases out of 36 falling within this range. CONCLUSIONS: The program and tabular methods of metamorphopsia examination are interchangeable and provide reasonably accurate quantification of metamorphopsia. The developed program is available on-line (https://mntk.ru/specialists/nauka-sotr/diag_meta/) and can be recommended for widespread clinical use.

Evaluation of Rodent Hair Tubes for Activity Indices.

Activity indices are used to determine the presence and activity of small mammals, such as the hair index derived from the use of hair tubes. In contrast to trapping animals, hair tubes are non-invasive and less labor-intensive, and appear to be a suitable alternative in appropriate settings. We developed a method to calculate hair density semi-automatically. In addition, hair tube data were validated with field data using wildlife cameras for the small mammal community in grassland, wheat crops, and hedges to assess how well data from hair tubes match data from wildlife cameras. Adhesive tape with hair from hair tubes was processed and scanned. The resulting images were analyzed using a newly developed computer program that enables background and adhesive tape to be automatically distinguished from hair, providing a quantitative measure of hair density. Based on validation with wildlife cameras, hair tubes seem to be a suitable tool to estimate small mammal activity at the community level in several habitats. There was a moderate-to-strong positive correlation of the hair tube index with the sum of voles and Apodemus individuals (activity index) recorded in grasslands (Spearman's correlation coefficient 0.43), hedges (0.79), and wheat (0.44). The newly developed computer program allows the automatic calculation of hair density, making it easier to assess the activity of small mammals.

A Systematic Review on Developing Computer Programming Skills for Visually Impaired Students

Technology and digital-based learning drive contemporary computer skill (CS) education advances. The absence of resources that are easily accessible and tailored to help the development of conceptual understanding in computers may present a number of issues for students who have visual impairments (VI) in the context of CS education. The objective of the research was to provide a concise overview of the existing evidence-based information about CS instruction for students with severe VI. A systematic review was performed to analyze the research papers published between January 2000 and September 2023. A total of 21 articles were extracted and classified into assistive technologies (ATs) and CSs. The study findings highlight the significance of the development of ATs and effective course design for supporting individuals with VI. It can be used by policy makers and educational institutions to present a useful environment for individuals with VI to improve their CSs. In future, the authors need to focus on ATs to enhance the computer programming abilities of students with VI. In addition, they will develop programming platforms and integrated development environments that are easily accessible and can be customized to meet a wide range of learning requirements.

Use of graphs to assess well safety in drilling projects and during operations by identification of available barrier elements and consolidation of barrier envelopes

Two independent barrier envelopes are the usual requirement used in most well operations to avoid catastrophic accidents. These are classified as primary – concerning preventing the occurrence of a kick, and secondary – concerning controlling the kick to avoid a blowout. Barrier envelopes consist of barrier elements, thus verifying the quality of these elements is fundamental. Barrier elements may be either redundant or mandatory, and these relationships are what constitute the barrier envelopes. In this work, we present a methodology to evaluate well safety by identifying existing barrier elements and barrier envelopes and mapping their relationships through the usage of graphs technique. This technique explicitly states the relationship between barriers and between them and envelopes. It enables a simpler visualization for well designers and allows the development of computer programs to control the safety and integrity of wells, both in the design phase and during drilling. 12 graphs are provided for a 4-phase well (conductor, surface, production, and drill-in), considering both the primary and secondary envelopes. Reasoning for constructing each graph is thoroughly provided. If these graphs are used, reliability values can then be assigned to each barrier element, which results in the reliability of entire barrier envelopes. This can be further extended to analyze the safety of each operation by applying the system to operational sequences and even comparing well designs.

Frequency-Domain 3D Computer Program for Predicting Motions and Loads on a Ship in Regular Waves

The development of an in-house computer program for determining the motions and loads of advancing ships through sea waves in the frequency domain, is described in this paper. The code is based on the potential flow formulation and originates from a double-body code enhanced with the regular part of the velocity potential computed using the pulsing source Green function. The code is fully developed in C++ language with extensive use of the object-oriented paradigm. The code is capable of estimating the excitation and inertial radiation loads or arbitrary incoming wave frequencies and incidence angles. The hydrodynamic responses such as hydrodynamic coefficients, ship motions, the vertical shear force and the vertical bending moment are estimated. A benchmark container ship and an LNG carrier are selected for testing and validating the computer code. The obtained results are compared with the available experimental data which demonstrate the acceptable compliance for the zero speed whereas there are some discrepancies over the range of frequencies for the advancing ship in different heading angles.

Application of machine learning technique for dynamic analysis of confined geomaterial subjected to vibratory load

Computer programming-based numerical programs are firmly established in geotechnical engineering, with rapid growth of finite element modeling and machine learning techniques gaining much attention both in practice and academia. This study is intended to expedite the dissemination of advanced computer applications in terms of finite element simulation and machine learning models by investigating the dynamic response of geomaterials subjected to vibratory loads. Several trial models were built to perform the experimental investigations with a vibratory shaker, signal generator, several accelerometers, a data collection system, and other ancillary devices. The implicit integration techniques in commercialized software were adopted for numerical simulations. After data collection from numerical simulation, models were chosen, trained, and assessed to produce predictions that were then used in this study. Several technologies, including the ensemble boosted tree, squared exponential Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), Matern 5/2 GPR, exponential GPR, and decision tree architectures (fine and medium), were used to forecast the displacement of confined geomaterial. The displacement-depth ratio was found rising to 80% in the frequency range of 5 to 25 Hz, suggesting a considerable change in the behavior of the geomaterial. The Matern 5/2 GPR model showed better accuracy with an R2 value of 0.99, indicating an outstanding predictive ability. The Matern 5/2 GPR and boosted tree models could help better understand the links between displacement and its distribution along the direction of load application. The outcomes of this study based on computer-aided finite element programs can be effectively implemented in machine learning to develop computer programs. In conclusion, the computational machine learning models adopted in this study offer a new insight for uncovering hidden intrinsic laws and creating new knowledge for geotechnical researchers and practitioners.

Fostering computer programming and digital skills development: An experimental approach

AbstractAvailable records of computer programming results from the universities in southeast Nigeria for the period under review (2016–2020) show that 70% of the students marginally passed the course. This, therefore, raises a concern to re‐examine the instructional strategy used in the teaching and learning process, hence the adoption of innovative pedagogy that involved the use of digital tools like Google Classroom and Google Meet in their instructional delivery process of a computer programming course. This study adopted quasi‐experimental research design involving intact classes with a nonequivalent group. Total population sampling technique was used to select all the 152 second‐year computer education students made up of 60 males and 92 females drawn from the three private universities in Southeast Nigeria that offer computer programming. Data was collected using computer achievement test, digital skill development scale and engagement level scale. The findings of the study showed that students' academic achievement and level of engagement increased significantly in a computer programming course. Also, digital skills development and self‐efficacy in the experimental group were higher than in the control group. Implementing innovative teaching strategies helped to facilitate the timely development of digital skills required by students to attain sufficient learner engagement in the learning process. It was recommended that computer educators should be encouraged to adopt innovative teaching techniques that blend with Classroom, Google Meet and MS Teams, among others to influence students' active engagement in the learning process.
