The perception of burnout and related influencing factors in Tunisian oncology nurses.

Oncology nurses constantly provide emotional support to patients and are confronted with their suffering, which represents chronic stress leading to the development of burnout syndrome. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of burnout and identify associated factors in a sample of oncology nurses. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study with 70 oncology nurses at the Salah Azaiez Institute of Oncology in Tunisia. Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Service Survey. This study follows the STrengthening the Reporting of OBservational studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) Guidelines. Burnout affected 60 nurses (85.7%), with a high level in 20% of cases. High scores of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and low personal accomplishment were recorded in 65.7%, 50%and 25.7% respectively. Emotional exhaustion was associated with higher age, marital status, having 2 or 3 or more dependent children, number of patients under care exceeding 15, professional experience and history of psychiatric problems. Depersonalisation was correlated with age, marital status, professional grade and history of psychiatric problems. Low levels of personal accomplishment increased with the number of patients under care, history of psychiatric problems and the regret of professional choice. Burn-out is a reality in oncology hospital with an alarming rate. Interventions including rationalisation of workload, support groups, training in emotion and stress management would improve the mental health of these nurses and increase their performance. The screening for burnout should be included as a regular practice in health promotion programmes for oncology health professionals, particularly for a vulnerable subgroup that possesses the risk mentioned above factors.

Research on risk factors for doctor burnout during COVID-19 epidemic

Burnout, recognized as a syndrome linked to chronic workplace stress by the World Health Organization (WHO), is a prevalent issue across various professions, irrespective of title or rank. Identifying exhaustion indicators and implementing preventive or corrective measures are vital to mitigate long-term adverse impacts on quality of life. Utilizing the "Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS)" through online analysis, this study aimed to establish the frequency of Burnout Syndrome (BOS) within the target population. The risk of BOS development doubled when participants financed their endeavors and faced abuse from patients' family members, while decreasing with participants' average age. Female gender correlated with higher emotional fatigue, and male gender predicted depersonalization (DP). Infection with or death from COVID-19 among coworkers or family members associated with elevated Employee Engagement (EE) and diminished Personal Accomplishment (PA). The COVID-19 epidemic introduced additional elements contributing to BOS, prompting measures such as providing psychological support, organizing working hours, adjusting pay, supplying personal protective equipment, and offering instruction on safety measures.

Burnout syndrome in nursing residents in COVID-19 pandemic

Introduction: The incidence of Burnout Syndrome (BS) among nurses is higher. For this group, nursing residents undergo periodic assessments regarding compliance with the care workload in closed sectors, such as Intensive Care and Emergency Care, that put them at higher risk for the syndrome. Objective: Identify the prevalence and related factors for BS in nursing residents. Material and Methods: Quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional study with 106 nurses enrolled in the Residency program in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, based on the following instruments: Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey Scale and an occupational sociodemographic questionnaire. Non-parametric statistical tests for independent samples were applied and Mann-Whitney test 15 was used for quantitative variables. Results: The results show that variable changes in relationships indicates stage 4 of the BS when compared to the other stages. For the other variables, there were no statistically significant differences. Discussion: Studies reveal that work-family balance is closely related to how job satisfaction is affected and mitigates the negative effects of BS. Conclusions: Consequences on relation patterns are among the most affected symptoms in the lives of nursing residents. This study is expected to contribute to raising awareness of the problem in question and to improve the quality of work life of resident nurses, detecting and preventing their illness.

Burnout and stress in group of psychiatrists: workload and non-professional-social predictors.

The aim of this research is to present the search for psychosocial predictors explaining the strength of perceived stress in psychiatrists and the search for associations between stress and occupational burnout in psychiatrists. The authors also searched for associations between organizational, workload, family and non-professional - social factors and the intensity of occupational stress. The group of 131 doctors - specialists in psychiatry, aged 27-86 years - took part in the study. The participants completed 3 questionnaires, i.e., the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Link Burnout Questionnaire (LBQ) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). The results indicated that significant predictors of the development of occupational stress for psychiatrists were psychophysical exhaustion and lack of a sense of professional efficacy. Taking holidays (several times a year, pursuing the passions and interests), and having a stable family relationship (marriage or civil partnership) were also prominent among the predictors of stress. Occupational stress and burnout in the work of the surveyed psychiatrists appeared to be a high intensity phenomenon. These results indicate the need to spread preventive health care also in the work of psychiatrists. Mainly in terms of maintaining the right balance between work and rest, which can help to reduce stress levels and protect against further development of burnout syndrome. Family resources such as a stable marriage or partnership may also be a protective factor against the build-up of stress and burnout in psychiatrists (mainly female). In addition, professional resources (work experience measured by number of years of work) is also important in explaining stress levels in psychiatrists. Analysis of Risk of Burn Out at Workers in the Field ff Social Services and Health Care

Aim. The aim of the research was to analyse the burnout rate of these social workers and nurses, as well as to determine the relationship between burnout syndrome and other important factors, including lifestyle, stress, resistance to stress and other selected demographic indicators. Methods. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to collect burnout data in 2021 during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The research sample consisted of 623 women aged 35-55 who work in social services facilities for the elderly and nurses working in the geriatrics department at a hospital in the western part of Slovakia. Results. Research has shown that lifestyle has a significant impact on the development of burnout syndrome in connection with the quality of work and personal relationships, which can help eliminate feelings of frustration, exhaustion and personal failure in the workplace. Burnout affects social workers regardless of age and education, but with older age and length of practice in the same facility, the risk of manifestations of burnout increases. Significant differences in burnout rates between social workers and nurses in the individual dimensions of exhaustion, depersonalisation and professional attitudes were confirmed. High levels of exhaustion have even shown an increased risk of alcohol consumption among these workers. Conclusion. The development of chronic stress in health care workers can put them at risk of burnout, which is characterized by emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) in interactions with patients and social clients, and low levels of personal accomplishment (PA) in social work and health care.

Burnout Syndrome, Stress and Study Hours in the Selection Process for Educational Teaching Staff: The Role of Resilience—An Explanatory Model

Candidates for the public teaching profession are subjected to high levels of stress, which can lead to the development of burnout syndrome during the competitive examination process. The present research reflects the objective of analysing the effect of resilience on burnout syndrome, stress and study hours in Spanish public teacher candidates. A cross-sectional, descriptive, comparative and ex post facto study was carried out on a sample of 4117 Spanish candidates (M = 31.03; S.D = 6.800). The Perceived Stress Scale was used to measure the stress variable. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to collect data related to burnout syndrome and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale was used to measure data related to resilience. The conclusions are that resilience helps to mitigate the effects generated by burnout syndrome and stress, helping to maintain a positive attitude towards the number of hours of study.

Management of Informal Caregivers’ Burden in a Selected Region of the Czech Republic

Objective: Care of handicapped or elderly by the family members in the home environment brings not only many positives for the care recipients, but can also impose a significant burden on the caregiver. The goal of the study was to assess the caregiver burden, burnout syndrome and the effect of caregivers’ sociodemographic characteristics. Design: Cross-sectional study. Participants: The sample consisted of 168 caregivers who took care of disabled children or seniors. Methods: Zarit Burden Interview identifying the subjective burden of informal caregivers, and Maslach Burnout Inventory assessing the burnout syndrome were used. Results: A higher level of caregiver burden and the development of burnout syndrome occurring most frequently in the dimensions of Emotional Exhaustion and Personal Accomplishment was observed. The caregiver burden was found to be lower in men, in caregivers living alone, and in the respondents from higher income households; it increased with the weekly amount of care. Conclusions: The results proof the demanding nature of informal care. A longitudinal study could illuminate the temporal changes in the family dynamics.

Effects of Occupation-Specific Vocal Stress on the Mental Health of Day Care Teachers

Introduction: Kindergarten teachers are exposed to numerous kinds of strains, such as noise, which can negatively affect their voices. This cross-sectional study investigates whether and to what extent the profession-specific high vocal demand is associated with the educators’ mental health. Methods: One hundred and ninety-two kindergarten teachers from Magdeburg, Germany and its surrounding areas aged 43.4 ± 12.8 years, voluntarily participated in a survey. Vocal demand and vocal demand response, general strain factors, and mental health were assessed by using questionnaires (self-check on voice demands, Rudow checklist, General Health Questionnaire, and Maslach Burnout Inventory). The statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS. Results: The interviewed educators felt stressed by the excessive number of work tasks and children in each class, noisy work environment, and loud conversations. In addition, educators complained of headaches and neck pain (66%), while 28% of them experienced hoarseness and a burning throat. The mental health of 39 of the educators was impaired, and nine were at an increased risk of burnout. Self-reported voice effort correlated low with mental health (r = 0.287; p < 0.001) and burnout risk (r = 0.306; p < 0.001). Conclusion: The vocal demands on educators in day care settings are very high, which is a major associated factor for the development of burnout syndrome and is also associated with headaches and neck pain. Measures for the prevention of occupational voice disorders and voice training should be a mandatory part of the educators’ training and must be offered as in-service training.

Most frequent risk factors for the development of burnout syndrome in health professionals

A Síndrome de Burnout (SB) é caracterizada por sintomas emocionais diretamente relacionados com o trabalho. Profissionais da saúde possuem altas demandas diárias e enfrentam longas jornadas de trabalho, tendo a pandemia de COVID-19 intensificado o problema. Este estudo objetivou avaliar os principais fatores de risco envolvidos no desenvolvimento da SB entre os profissionais de saúde. A triagem dos artigos foi realizada através do método PRISMA. Foi identificado que locais que não incentivavam o companheirismo, que não realizavam capacitações regulares ou o treinamento emocional da equipe apresentavam maiores índices de SB. Fatores psicológicos intrínsecos à personalidade dos trabalhadores e transtornos psicológicos prévios também influenciaram nos riscos de SB. O “lockdown” dissociou redes de apoio psicológico. O colapso do sistema de saúde e o risco constante de contágio desencadearam a “coronafobia”. A dificuldade em tratar a COVID-19 e as mortes de muitos pacientes aumentaram a condição de estresse dos profissionais. Além disso, a falta de equipamentos de proteção individual, insumos medicamentosos e leitos de unidades de terapia intensiva agravaram o quadro psíquico dos profissionais.

Estrés laboral en médicos veterinarios y estudiantes avanzados dedicados a la clínica de pequeños animales

Stress (eng. "Stress", tension) is defined as a state of exaggerated tension that is reached by an excess of activity, work or responsibility, and that leads to physical and psychological disorders in people who suffer from it (Vilcahuamán, 2014). Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) can be defined as the consequent natural behaviors and emotions that result from knowing about a traumatic event experienced by another person (Figley, 1995). In this work, a descriptive study was carried out based on telephone survey methodology, incidental and cross-sectional design. Surveys were conducted through the use of different forms and scales as measuring instruments for the STS and the different variables. The sample consisted on 103 workers (advanced students in the career and Veterinary Doctors) belonging to the Small Animal Clinics of Montevideo and the Small Animal Unit of the Veterinary College Hospital. The objective was to estimate the prevalence of STS in this population, identify and evaluate risk factors for STS and analyze its relationship with the development of Burnout Syndrome and other psychological processes and behavioral strategies described. It was found that 3 out of 10 professionals presented symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) due to the STS. It was concluded that the prevalence of symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder due to STS was considerable. We were able to observe that this acute process is related to a chronic condition known as Burnout Syndrome. Noting that an increase in STS symptoms is positively related to an increase in Burnout symptoms. This work can be the first step to continue researching on the subject and thus in this way build the best tools to take care of ourselves as professionals and be better doctors for our patients. &nbsp; &nbsp

Influence of occupational stress on interpersonal and organizational relationships: an integrative review

Objective: To investigate, through scientific literary findings, the effects of occupational stress on interpersonal relationships in the work environment. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, with a descriptive and qualitative approach, carried out through a survey in the Scielo, Pubmed and Lilacs databases, with the words indexed in the DeCs: Psychology, Occupational Stress and Burnout Syndrome. As well as the Boolean operator ‘’AND’’ to perform the crossing between the descriptors. Articles related to the proposed theme, published between the years 2016 to 2021, available in full, with no language restriction; in addition to theses, dissertations and monographs. Results and discussions: The findings of the scientific literature exposed in this research could show that occupational stress has a total impact on interpersonal relationships and on emotional exhaustion, constituting a network conducive to the emergence and development of Burnout syndrome. Final considerations: The research included in this study could unanimously prove that occupational stress leads to a decline in interpersonal and organizational relationships, which directly compromises the mental health of professionals, generating a risk of harm to the health of the worker, with the syndrome of Burnout is the most prevalent pathology in this context.

Kontekstualni okvir i prevencija sindroma sagorevanja profesionalaca u vaspitno-obrazovnim ustanovama

Burnout syndrome is a widely researched phenomenon and is the focus of numerous scientific studies. Research results show a prevalence of contextual factors in relation to individual factors for its emergence and development, as well as certain differences in approaches to the problem in different countries. Given the specificity of helping professions, which recognize and work within educational institutions, "helpers" are exposed to the greatest professional stress and the risk of burnout syndrome. The aim of this paper is to examine the contextual factors within the educational system that can influence the occurrence and development of burnout syndrome, with a focus on emphasizing the importance and possibilities of prevention through organizational changes. Therefore, the paper starts from the specificity of burnout syndrome related to helping professions, educated to provide help and support to others. After that, insights into visible or experienced consequences for employees in educational institutions are interpreted, drawing attention to their reflection on the development and education of individuals and society, as well as resources that can inhibit burnout syndrome. The conclusions of the analysis of this problem point to priority systemic tasks aimed at providing support and assistance to employees in educational institutions, viewed through three levels of a preventive approach. In this regard, the pedagogical implications of work can also be considered, as they can shed light on the specifics of burnout syndrome, recognition in practice, and adequate action to prevent consequences, most commonly through a model of self-help.

Prevalence of symptoms of burnout syndrome in primary health care professionals.

Burnout syndrome results from a response to chronic work stress and is responsible for causing symptoms related to three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, reflecting work overload; depersonalization, characterized by professional detachment and cynicism; and reduced professional accomplishment, related to low productivity at work. Burnout is often associated with jobs that require professionals to have direct contact with users, such as health professionals. Primary Health Care is the assistance level that greatest contact with the community and requires teamwork, thus exposing workers to potential psychosocial stressors. To identify the prevalence of symptoms of burnout syndrome among Primary Health Care professionals in Toledo, state of Paraná, Brazil. This was a descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory, Human Services Survey, were used to assess the outcomes. The prevalence of high risk for the development of burnout syndrome was 10.6%, and, when dimensions were evaluated separately, it was found that 29.8, 52.1 and 22.3% of participants showed a high level of symptoms in the dimensions emotional exhaustion, reduced professional accomplishment, and depersonalization, respectively. Previous use of psychiatric medication due to another condition had a significant correlation with high risk for burnout. The results of this research corroborated other similar studies, contributing to knowledge on the subject in a region of the state of Paraná where there was still no research on the syndrome.

НОВЫЕ МЕТОДИЧЕСКИЕ ПОДХОДЫ В ВОПРОСАХ ИЗУЧЕНИЯ РАЗВИТИЯ СИНДРОМА ЭМОЦИОНАЛЬНОГО ВЫГОРАНИЯ У СТУДЕНТОВ ВУЗОВ

The article is devoted to the study of the development of the syndrome of emotional burnout among students of a technical university. The content of the concept of "burnout syndrome" is revealed, a theoretical analysis of this phenomenon is carried out, and the reasons for its occurrence in the student environment are analyzed. The paper shows that negative factors in the form of suboptimal learning conditions that take place in the organization of the educational process have a detrimental effect on mental health, cause a decrease in the level of stress resistance in students, which causes them to develop a burnout syndrome. The authors studied the dependence of the development of the emotional state syndrome on the psychological profile of students. It is proposed, depending on the results obtained during testing on the 16PF multifactorial personality questionnaire, to attribute students to the "negative" or "positive" pole. On the basis of the test results obtained and the correlation analysis carried out, "psychological portraits" of students of the Institute of Engines and Power Plants of the Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Queen, who have a tendency or, conversely, resistance to the development of burnout syndrome. In order to prevent the development of the phenomenon of emotional burnout, ways and methods for identifying early signs and preventing its development in students are proposed.

The role of aggression and maladjustment in the teacher-student relationship on burnout in secondary school teachers.

Multiple studies have examined the individual and socio-demographic variables that can contribute to the development of burnout in teachers. Although the evidence supports that this syndrome is generated through the interaction between the aspects of the organization and those of the person, little attention has been spent on the impact of the teacher-student relationship adjustment and, especially, on the role of violence exercised by students or their families toward secondary school teachers, who seem to be more vulnerable than teaching professionals in general. To analyze the role of the possible mismatch in the student-teacher relationship, as well as, the physical and verbal violence toward teachers from pupils or their parents, on the professional wear of high school educators. A cross-sectional study was carried out on a teacher sample (n = 677) in Aragón, Spain, through a questionnaire with socio-demographic data; the "Maslach Burnout Inventory" (MBI), "Areas of Worklife Scale," the "Fears and Rejection in Education Questionnaire" (FREQ), and a list of the possible aggressions received in the development of the teaching activity. While 3.8% of teachers have been a victim of physical attacks, 34.9% have suffered verbal abuse at least once. Although physical violence is extremely rare (and low intensity), verbal victimization or threats are associated with burnout in a highly significant manner, which confirms previous findings about school violence and burnout. Also, FEAR and REJECTION dimensions, defined as discomfort, tension, anxiety, and pressure caused by pupils, which contributed considerably on two dimensions of burnout (emotional exhaustion and cynicism). Different covariates such as maladjustment in the teacher-pupil relationship, violence experienced at work, and complaints received explain the 56.4% variance of exhaustion, 48.8% variance in cynicism, and 35.5% for efficacy. Very different variables can contribute to the development of burnout syndrome, both personal, and organizational variables. Therefore, when designing prevention programs in each work environment, the possible areas of risk and the interactions between them must be considered.

Predictors of emotional burnout at different levels of higher medical education

Introduction. Getting higher medical education in specialty and residency programs is an important stage of doctor's formation. Medical activity implies emotional intensity and a great number of factors that cause stress. Emotional burnout syndrome is not only the result of neuropsychological stress, but also the consequence of uncontrollable stress. Research aim: to determine the predictors of emotional burnout syndrome development in students of higher medical education programs (specialist and residency). Materials and methods. The sample of 330 students undergoing specialist and residency programs at Yaroslavl State Medical University of the Ministry of Health Care of Russia and 50 doctors from different medical organizations of Yaroslavl region was used as a control group to estimate their thinking styles, types of thinking and creativity as well as factors of cognitive appraisal of difficult life situations and to analyze their interrelation and impact on a burnout syndrome component. Statistical data processing was carried out using Kolmogorov-Smirnov criterion with Lillifort and Shapiro-Wilk correction, Spearman rank correlation coefficient, Mann-Whitney U-test, Student's t-criterion, Pearson's χ² test, and factor analysis (ANOVA) based on Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test and multiple logistic regression analysis. Study Results. It was found that in all three comparison groups the practical thinking style was significantly more frequent (p≤0.05). From the types of thinking reliably more often (p≤0,05) students use figurative, residents – combined, and doctors – sign type. When analyzing the SES phases, reliable differences were found in the predominance of the frequency of occurrence of only the formed phase "Resistance" in doctors over residents (p=0,016). In a comparative analysis of more difficult situations (≥4 points) between groups, it was found that significantly more students compared to residents have common signs of difficult life situations (p=0.008), significantly more strong emotions are experienced by students compared to residents (p=0.0003) and to doctors (p=0.006). Correlation analysis showed: for students the presence of direct links of medium strength between the sign type of thinking and "strong emotions", emotional detachment and "future perspective"; for residents the presence of direct and inverse links of very weak and weak strength, which can be neglected. Factor analysis revealed the main components in each group under study that described the influence patterns of the factors of cognitive evaluation of life situations on certain burnout symptoms with the highest percentage. Conclusion. Logistic regression analysis revealed a number of cognitive evaluation factors as predictors of burnout and, vice versa, a number of burnout symptoms can act as predictors of some cognitive evaluation factors.

The role of university teachers’ occupational activity in the burnout syndrome

Introduction. Burnout syndrome (BOS) is interpreted as career crisis. However, BOS is no classified as occupational or workplace-related illness, it is considered as phenomenon in the occupational context only. Aim - to assess the influence of professional activity of university teachers on the development of BOS. Materials and methods. Female teachers of three age groups (under 30 years, 30-49 years, and older 49 years) working at the North Kazakhstan University (NKU). This study employed questionnaire, physiological and statistical methods. Results. The most pronounced phase experienced by teachers is “Resistance” phase, followed by “Exhaustion” phase and then “Tension” phase. As for the age range, respondents of the first age group (under 30 years old) have expressed reaction of: “Tension” phase - 21.7%, “Resistance” - 34.7%, “Exhaustion” - 30.4%. “Resistance” response prevailed in two other age groups. A post-symptom analysis of the formed BOS phase showed the prevalence of the following symptoms in the “Resistance” phase: “R1. Inadequate emotional response”, “R4. Reduction of professional duties”, “R2. Emotional and moral disorientation” and “R3. Expansion of emotion saving. “T1.Experiencing traumatic events” symptom dominated in the “Tension” phase, followed by the symptoms of the “Exhaustion” phase - “E1. Emotional deficiency”, “E2. Emotional detachment” and “E3. Personal detachment (depersonalization)”. The dynamics of psychophysiological indicators based on the phases of the formation of BOS showed results similar to obtained from correlation analysis and analysis of variance. A post-symptom analysis of the formed BOS phase showed that the prevailing symptoms negatively affect the professional qualities of teachers. Teachers can be assumed to face increasing traumatic factors of professional activity, they cease to feel the difference between the emotion saving and inappropriate emotional response and, therefore, they try to minimize the responsibilities requiring emotional costs. Limitations. This study is limited to a selection of female teachers of the NKU, who develop BOS during their teaching activities, diagnosed according to the questionnaire of V.V. Boyko. Conclusion. It can be assumed that teachers’ professional activity causes the growth of BOS and can be classified as workplace illness, which entails the inability of an employee to perform his/her duties at a professional level.

Burnout syndrome in healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic: a systematic review.

There is evidence that harm to the mental health of healthcare workers has occurred during the pandemic caused by COVID-19. The burnout syndrome is a form of exhaustion that occurs in occupational settings and is a condition caused by long-term stress in the workplace. The objectives of this systematic review of observational studies were to present data from research into the prevalence of burnout syndrome in healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and observe its prevalence among frontline workers. The search was conducted on the MEDLINE, LILACS, and Embase databases from 2019 to May of 2021 and returned 538 publications, which underwent a two-stage process of selection by independent peers, resulting in selection of a sample of 29 articles. Data were then extracted and synthesized for presentation in narrative form. Cross-sectional designs were more prevalent (n = 26) than longitudinal studies (n = 3). The sample included research from 19 different countries, with one Brazilian study. A wide range of different instruments were administered by study authors to assess burnout syndrome, the most common of which was the Maslach Burnout Inventory (n = 13). The prevalence of burnout syndrome in the studies varied from 76 to 14.7%. Data on the relationship between development of burnout syndrome and working on the frontline were controversial. The lack of standardization of burnout syndrome assessment was a source of considerable difficulty, compromising comparability of the results, and should therefore be targeted for improvement by researchers. We suggest that more investigations should be conducted into prevalence and the associated factors of risk and protection.

Occupational violence and burnout among teachers: a narrative review.

Occupational violence may favor the development of burnout syndrome. The objective of this study was to identify which characteristics are associated with burnout syndrome in teachers exposed to occupational violence and discuss measures aimed at reducing this type of violence. A narrative review with a theoretical-reflective approach was conducted on SciELO library and on PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. The violence experienced by teachers causes health-related problems and illnesses, especially in mental health, favoring the development of burnout syndrome. Occupational violence has affected teachers and influenced the onset of burnout syndrome. Thus, plans and actions involving teachers, students and their parents/legal guardians, employees, and especially managers are essential to promote safe and healthy work environments.

BURNOUT SYNDROME IN MEDICAL RESIDENTS

Objective: Occupational burnout occurs more often among doctors than among those working in other sectors. It is an indisputable fact that medics whose work requires almost continuous contact with people are more prone to burnout. It is noticed that the burnout syndrome affects doctors at all stages of their careers - from residents to experienced practitioners. Methods:. This paper performs a literature review on the frequency and causes of professional burnout among resident doctors. Results: The results of numerous large-scale studies are conclusive that the intensive workload of doctors, including night shifts and overtime, and the lack of work-life balance, due to the numerous resident duties, are the most common predisposing factors for the development of burnout syndrome in resident doctors. Another important conclusion from these studies is that a high level of BOS is mainly associated with depression and inadequate patient care. Conclusions: Professional burnout syndrome among resident doctors is an ongoing issue. It is then required that additional subjects, such as building skills to recognize and combat stress and implement strategies to overcome it, should be included in resident doctors training programmers.
