Diagnosis and Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis: Modern Aspects

Osteoarthritis of the knee joint (КOA) is a common chronic joint disease that most often affects adults over the age of 60. Recent studies indicate its progressive nature, involving structural changes in various components of the joint, including articular cartilage, synovial membrane and ligaments. Globally, about 250 million people suffer from КOA, with the incidence of КOA increasing due to asymptomatic cases, obesity and other factors. Women are more likely to be affected by this disease than men. OA is becoming one of the main causes of disability in the world, accounting for 85% of the burden of КOA. Approximately 10% of people over the age of 60 suffer from КOA, which leads to movement restrictionsThe purpose of the review is to highlight recent studies on imaging and current treatments for КOA, as well as an analysis of the prevalence of this disease.Due to the severity of the process and the pain syndrome, non-surgical methods are often insufficient. Joint replacement is an important method of treatment at the terminal stage. However, other methods, such as corticosteroid injections, hyaluronic acid and the use of cells, can slow the progression of the disease. Timely diagnosis plays a key role, given that КOA can be asymptomatic in the early stages. Critical thinking in medical education

Technological advances in the modern world have led to a paradigm shift in medical education, identifying new challenges. The need to meet these challenges has required the implementation of evidence-based clinical practice, which allows the best quality evidence to be used to provide optimal patient care and improve healthcare efficiency. Obtaining evidence of the efficacy and safety of drugs and medical technologies, the diagnostic accuracy of interventions became possible due to the introduction of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. This methodology forms clinical thinking in parallel with the development of research and analytical competencies, which is one of the urgent tasks of modern medical education. The article reflects the experience of the Department of Internal Diseases of the Sechenov University in implementing a practice-oriented research module aimed at developing critical thinking using evidence-based medicine methods among students and residents. The inclusion of research competencies in the educational process will make it possible to qualitatively transform medical education and form a generation of competitive competent specialists in demand in the world of constantly developing technologies.

Domestic researchers who significantly contributed in the study of digestive system diseases: images in art. Vasyl Parmenovich Obraztsov

Vasyl Parmenovich Obraztsov (1849 — 1920) was an outstanding therapist, Professor of Medicine, and innovator in the field of techniques for diagnosing diseases of the cardiovascular and digestive systems. The research interests of V. P. Obraztsov were mainly focused on studying the most important issues in general and specific gastroenterology and cardiology. At the same time, he aimed to invent reliable techniques for the physical diagnosis of diseases of the abdominal organs and heart.
 Palpation of the abdominal organs, invented and introduced into clinical practice by V. P. Obraztsov, is based on four principles. During deep breathing, especially when the patient is lying down, the abdominal press occasionally relaxes. During the exhalation phase, the researcher tries to reach deep into the abdominal cavity with a palpating hand and press an organ that needs to be felt against the posterior abdominal wall. The first principle of the research technique that V. P. Obraztsov came up with is deep palpation. It is usually possible to palpate any organ in the abdomen when the fingertips of the palpating hand slide off the edge of the organ being examined. The palpable part of the gastrointestinal tract is pressed against the posterior abdominal wall with a strong downward movement of the hand that is perpendicular to the organ’s long axis. When the fingers slip from the organ, the localization of the organ, as well as its consistency, shape, width, and mobility, can be determined; at the same time, the patient may report unpleasant or painful sensations. Sliding palpation is the second principle of the research technique by V. P. Obraztsov. According to topographic anatomy, each organ in the abdominal cavity has its own normal localization. Now, X‑rays confirm this, but V. P. Obraztsov had to do experiments to develop a typical topography of certain segments of the digestive tract in the abdominal cavity of a healthy person and find typical projections of internal organs on the anterior wall of the abdomen. Further studies by his students proved the correctness of his description of the topography of the abdominal organs. Of course, both V. P. Obraztsov and his students repeatedly emphasized the possibility of individual differences or physiological variants in the localization of the digestive tract organs in patients. Topographic palpation has become the third guiding principle of the research technique developed by V. P. Obraztsov. V. P. Obraztsov suggested that a study of the organs in the abdomen be done in a certain sequence. First, the sigmoid colon is examined, then the cecum, the terminal segment of the small intestine, the appendix, the stomach, with an attempt to palpate its small and large curvatures, and the pylorus. After that, the palpation of the transverse colon and the ascending and descending sections of the large intestine starts. The examination is completed by determining the localization, consistency, shape, mobility, and other features of the parenchymal organs — the liver, spleen, and kidneys. Thus, systematic palpation is the fourth principle of the examination of the abdominal organs.
 V. P. Obraztsov made a significant contribution to the history of cardiology. Systematic cardiac auscultation with a stethoscope and directly with the ear let him describe some features of the tone I, report the presence of a normal tone III, and point out the relatively frequent detection of bifurcation and splitting of heart tones. A series of works by V. P. Obraztsov on the study of the gallop rhythm is of particular importance for cardiology.
 In 1950, on the centenary of his birth, the government of the Ukrainian SSR decided to publish his «Selected Works», build a monument, and assign his name to the Department of Internal Diseases No. 1 of the Kyiv Medical Institute. By the same date, the country’s medical journals had published his students’ memoirs, as well as articles and essays about his life path.

IMMEDIATE OUTCOMES OF UNSTABLE ANGINA IN METABOLIC SYNDROME

The article presents data on the study of the immediate outcomes of unstable angina in women and men with metabolic syndrome. The study was conducted for 2021-2022 on the basis of the Department of Internal Diseases of the Pediatric Faculty of SamSMU. The study included 20 patients with coronary artery disease and metabolic syndrome. Clinical examinations were carried out according to the standard scheme, the metabolic syndrome was studied by analyzing the lipid and glycemic spectrum. Elevated Lp(a) and course of COVID-19: Is there a relationship?

BackgroundLipoprotein (a)–Lp(a) has proinflammatory, prothrombotic and proatherogenic properties and may theoretically influence the course of COVID-19.ObjectivesThe aim of the study was to explore whether patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 with Lp(a) ≥30mg/dl may develop a worse course of the disease, increased incidence of thromboembolic complications, intubation and ICU hospitalization or death.Patients and methodsA retrospective analysis was performed of 124 patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 in the Department of Internal Diseases and Clinical Pharmacology between 29 November 2020 and 15 April 2021. The only exclusion criterion was age≥80 years. Patients were divided into two groups: 1. COVID-19 patients with Lp(a) <30mg/dl regarded as not elevated n = 80; 2. COVID-19 patients with Lp(a) ≥30 regarded as elevated n = 44.ResultsA total of 124 COVID-19 patients were included in the study (66 men and 58 women) with a mean age of 62.8±11 years. COVID-19 patients with elevated Lp(a) level had significantly longer hospitalization time (11 vs. 9.5 days; p = 0.0362), more extensive radiological changes in CT scan (35 vs. 30%; p = 0.0301) and higher oxygen demand on admission (8 vs. 5L/min; p = 0.0428). Elevated Lp(a) was also associated with significantly higher OR for High Flow Nasal Oxygen Therapy (HFNOT) OR = 3.5 95%CI(1.2;8.9), p = 0.0140, Intubation and ICU OR = 4.1 95%CI(1.1;15.2) p = 0.0423, Death OR = 2.8 95%CI(0.9;8.5), p = 0.0409.ConclusionsElevated Lp(a) might be one of the factors which contribute to a more severe course of COVID-19; however, further studies including larger groups of patients are needed.

Analysis of automated guided vehicle use in health care by simulation: A case study in a university hospital

AbstractAutomated guided vehicles (AGV), which are frequently used to reduce the workload of employees in production systems, are now being used in service systems. AGV has been widely used in the field of healthcare and is well suited to transporting. This study aims to provide AGV is being used in different areas of healthcare today within the scope of Industry 4.0. In recent years, the use of AGV has started to increase to reduce the workload and contamination risk of healthcare workers. In this study, it was aimed that AGVs would distribute autonomous drugs by processing patient information such as age, drug type, frequency of use and so forth. The information obtained from the internal diseases department of a university hospital was transferred to a computer simulation environment and the current situation and the proposed situation were analyzed separately, and the results were compared. The statistically verified results show that an autonomous AGV that will process patient information and distribute drugs reduced the workload of nurses by 14% in approximately a month.

Euthyroid Sick Syndrome as a Prognostic Indicator of COVID-19 Pulmonary Involvement, Associated With Poorer Disease Prognosis and Increased Mortality

ObjectiveThe prevalence of euthyroid sick syndrome (ESS) and its association with the prognosis of COVID-19 and mortality in patients with lung involvement in COVID-19 have not yet been elucidated. MethodsClinical and laboratory data of patients with COVID-19 with or without ESS were collected retrospectively and analyzed on admission. All subjects were admitted to the Department of Internal Diseases and Clinical Pharmacology at Bieganski Hospital between December 2020 and April 2021. ResultsIn total, 310 medical records of patients with COVID-19 were analyzed retrospectively. Among 215 enrolled patients, 82 cases of ESS were diagnosed. The patients with ESS had higher pro-inflammatory factor levels, longer hospitalizations, and a higher risk of requiring high-flow nasal oxygen therapy or intubation than the patients without ESS. The Kaplan-Meier curve indicated that the patients with ESS had a lower probability of survival when computed tomography showed ≤50% parenchymal involvement compared with that in patients without ESS. However, no differences in mortality were noted in those with more than 50% parenchymal involvement. The survival curve showed that ESS was associated with a higher risk of mortality during hospitalization. ConclusionESS is closely associated with a poor prognosis, including longer hospitalizations, more frequent intubation, transfer to the intensive care unit, and a higher mortality rate in patients with COVID-19. ESS is a potential prognostic predictor of survival, regardless of lung involvement in COVID-19.

Assessment of application of the new 2019 European Society of Cardiology/ European Atherosclerosis Society Guidelines for the Management of Dyslipidaemias in daily clinical practice - one center study.

B a c k g r o u n d: Cardiovascular diseases are the first cause of death globally. Hypercholester- olemia is the most important factor responsible for atherosclerotic plaque formation and increasing cardiovascular risk. Reduction of LDL-C level is the most relevant goal for reduction of cardiovascular risk. A i m s: Real life adherence to guidelines concerning statin therapy in one center study population. M e t h o d s: We analyzed data collected in the Department of Internal Diseases from September 2019 to February 2020, obtained from 238 patients hospitalized in this time period. We assessed application of the new 2019 ESC/EAS Guidelines for the Management of Dyslipidaemias in daily clinical practice and compared effectiveness of LLT according to 2016 and 2019 guidelines. R e s u l t s: Only 1 in 5 patients with dyslipideamia achieve the 2019 ESC/EAS guideline-recommended levels of LDL-C with relation to their TCVR. We noticed that 20 of patients who did not achieve proper 2019 LDL level, meet new therapy targets established in year 2016. We observed that higher patient TCVR resulted in better compliance with guidelines and ordination of proper LLT. Most patients were on monotherapy with statins. C o n c l u s i o n s: It could be beneficial to start treatment with double or even triple therapy especially in group with the highest LDL-C levels.

Republican registry of primary immune deficiencies in the chuvash republic and description of postvaccinal immunity disorders in a pregnant patient with common variable immune deficiency

In recent years, primary immunodeficiencies have turned from the class of rare diseases to the category of more common disorders which may be encountered by doctors of any clinical discipline. The first case of primary immunodeficiency disorder (PID) in Chuvashia was detected in 1993. Since that time, the Department of Internal Diseases with the Course of Clinical Immunology at the I. Ulyanov Chuvash State University registered all the cases of PID diagnosed in the region, introducing them into the Republican Registry of PID. The study was aimed for searching epidemiological indexes, clinical and laboratory manifestations of PID in Chuvash region. The study was based on the patient data obtained by retrospective analysis of 85 case histories of PID patients, treated at different departments of the Republican Clinical Hospital, and the City Chuvash Pediatric Clinical Hospital of Public Health Ministry in 2000-2019, as well as on 49 outpatient records of the patients included into the Regional PID Registry. Various forms of PIDs were diagnosed according to the criteria developed by the European Society for Immunodeficiency and the Pan-American Group on Immunodeficiency (1999). The results of this study showed that the incidence of PID in the Chuivash Region is 3.4:100,000. The incidence of common variable immune deficiency (CVID), the most common form of PID in the region, was 1.58 per 100,000 population. The average age at the time of CVID diagnosis in Chuvash patients was 30.4±16.1 years, and the age of CVID debut was 11.3±15.0 years. The delay in proper diagnosis from the moment of clinical manifestation of CVID was, on average, 17.9 years in the region. At the time of CVID diagnosis, the patients showed marked decrease in the levels of 3 or 2 immunoglobulin classes (IgG and IgA), and T-helper cell contents (CD3+CD4+) in peripheral blood. Prevalence of selective IgA deficiency with сlinical symptoms was 0.83 per 100,000 population of the region, and the incidence of the asymptomatic form of this PID was 1 : 167. In patients with selective IgA deficiency, there were also disorders in the T cell system manifesting as decreased relative number of cytotoxic T-cells as well as elevated IgG and IgM levels. The age of diagnosis of X-linked agammaglobulinemia in the region was 3.5±3.0 years. In addition to disturbances of humoral adaptive immunity in children with this disease, a decrease in absolute T cell numbers was detected. In conclusion, the article describes disturbances of postvaccinal immunity in a pregnant patient with CVID, with asymptomatic clinical course, thus leading to false interpretation of the serological markers of TORCH infections and wrong strategy of pregnancy management.

Nutritional status and anxiety-depression relationship in hemodialysis patients

Background/Aim: Malnutrition is one of the determinants of most morbidity and mortality in end-stage renal failure (ESRD) patients receiving hemodialysis (HD). Depression is the most common psychological complication among these patients. This study aimed to determine the nutritional status and anxiety-depression level in hemodialysis patients and evaluate the relationship between the two. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 55 routine hemodialysis patients over 18 years of age who were treated in the Department of Internal Diseases of a university hospital between November 2019 and January 2020. Two patients were excluded from the study due to renal transplantation. All patients filled out a two-part Hospital-Anxiety Depression Scale (HAD) and a two-part Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) questionnaire. The MNA-short form (MNA-SF) was first used to evaluate the malnutrition status of patients. Those who were identified as at-risk or malnourished with the MNA-SF were also asked to complete the long form. The HAD scale was used to evaluate the levels of depression and anxiety. Work motivation, job satisfaction, and nursing record-keeping: do they differ in surgery and internal disease departments?

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the level of work motivation, job satisfaction, and nursing record-keeping, and to analyse differences in job satisfaction, work motivation, and level of nursing record-keeping in two wards. Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted. Methods: The study involved nurses employed in the Department of Surgery and the Department of Internal Medicine. The nurses voluntarily and anonymously completed the Multidimensional Work Motivation Scale and a questionnaire that included job satisfaction and demographic information. Nursing records were taken from the health institution computer database. Results: A significant difference in motivation was observed in favor of Surgery nurses (p = 0.005), and a significant difference in job satisfaction was observed in favor of Internal Diseases Department nurses (p = 0.039). Surgery employees were significantly better at keeping nursing records (p &lt; 0.00001). Conclusion: The level of job satisfaction and work motivation are not proportional to the level of nursing record-keeping.

Quality of Life of Patients with Arterial Hypertension.

Symptoms of hypertension with accompanying complications result in a significant reduction in patients’ quality of life. Effective conduct of prescribed pharmacotherapy supported by a healthy lifestyle allows to achieve satisfactory effects of treatment, which translates into an improvement in the quality of life of patients. The aim of the work was to determine the quality of life of patients with hypertension and the factors affecting it. The study included 100 people with hypertension, who are patients of the department of internal diseases of the hospital in Hajnówka during the period 1.6.2019–1.12.2019. The questionnaire survey, the standardized WHO Quality of Life (WHOQOL)-BREF scale and the Barthel scale were the research tools. The probability p < 0.05 was assumed as the level of statistical significance. The study group consisted of subjects between 30–89 years old. The majority were men and those living in the city. The average BMI (body mass index) of the subjects was 28.4 kg/m2. The duration of the disease among those surveyed was on average 7 ± 6.34 years. The highest-rated area of quality of life was the physical field and the lowest social sphere according to the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Patients with hypertension have determined their quality of life at a good or medium level in the physical, psychological, social, and environmental sphere. There are many factors that improve quality of life in all areas. These include following the recommendations on modifiable risk factors.

Can Leukotriene Modifiers and Mast Cell Stabilizers Decrease the Fatal Outcomes of Coronavirus?

Abstract:Human coronavirus infections can induce severe pulmonary pathologies but also typical symptoms of infectious diseases, including inflammation, high fever, cough and organ failures that might be fatal. Some of the immune cells (mast cells), which are located in the submucosa of the pulmonary tract, attack primarily to Coronavirus.1-4 First, the virus activates mast cells and then certain chemical compounds are generated against the pathogen. Here, we develop a new idea that inflammation in patients with COVID-19 may be mitigated by both leukotriene modifiers and mast cell stabilizers. COVID-19 is frequent and the most of people’s nasal secretions contain specific antibodies to decrease the infectivity of the Coronavirus. Cell-mediated immunity with allergy have not been studied well-enough in the literature, but it may play a crucial role in pathogenesis. While working to find a novel drug for COVID-19 or for the prevention of fatal coronavirus infections with a vaccine for future outbreaks, the discovering re-purposed both leukotriene modifiers and mast cell stabilizers to attenuate the effect of virüs to some extent may be achieved by new clinical trials. We must also prevent those of patients who are under threat of COVID-19 induced cytokine storms, which is often fatal among patients with COVID-19.2 Physicians must first be aware of the possibility of both leukotriene modifiers and mast cell stabilizers, then make the diagnosis. With a proactive manner in medicine, we must specifically find a solution to the infected patients with overly active immune responses beforehand because of the outcomes from the overactive immune response can be deadly. The effect of anticholinergic medications on cognitive function of patients 80 years and older with essential hypertension

Background . Cognitive impairment and dementia are the symptoms of brain damage in hypertension (HTN), which impair quality of life and autonomy, in particular, in elderly patients. However, the influence of various drugs on the cognitive functions remains unclear. Objective. To assess the effect of anticholinergic drugs on cognitive functions in hypertensive patients aged 80 years and older. Design and methods . We consistently included 74 patients (77 % women) aged 80 years and older (median age 86 [82-89] years) with essential HTN stage I—III, who were admitted to the Department of Internal Diseases at the multidisciplinary hospital. Inclusion criteria were the following: patients with essential HTN stage I—III of both sexes; 2) age at the time of inclusion in the study — 80 years and older; regular antihypertensive therapy. The main non-inclusion criteria were the following: 1) age less than 80 years; myocardial infarction during the previous 3 months; mental illness, dependence on drugs or alcohol; acute cerebrovascular events during previous 6 months; non-compliance with the study protocol. Each patient underwent the assessment of cognitive status, depression, comprehensive geriatric evaluation. Medical records were studied. When medications were administered, the prescribed anticholinergic (AH) drugs were assessed by the scale of anticholinergic Cognitive Burden (ACB). The following scales and tests were used to evaluate cognitive functions: Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal-Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the Boston naming test (Boston Naming Test (BNT), Category fluency tests, subtest Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV), Digit symbol substitution test (DSST), Word List Test (WLT), Alzheimer’s Disease Assesment Scale — Cognitive (ADAS-cog). Symptoms of depression were assessed using a shortened version of the geriatric Depression Scale (GDS 15). Results. Based on the AH burden (the ACB scale), the patients were divided into 2 groups: 1 st group included patients who do not take drugs with AH burden (n = 25, 33,8 %), 2 nd group included patients taking drugs with AH burden (n = 49, 66,2 %). Patients who took drugs with AH burden showed a more pronounced decrease in cognitive functions: MMSE (lower overall score: 21 [18—23] and 22,5 [20—26] points, respectively, p = 0.04), number of recognizable images on the Boston test (lower number of the images: 27 [25— 30] and 30 [28—31], respectively, p = 0.014), and the cognitive adas-cog subscale (higher score, 16,7 [12—19,3] and 12,7 [11—14,6], respectively, p = 0.03). Conclusion. In HTN patients aged 80 years and older, therapy with AH burden is associated with the more profound decrease in cognitive functions.

Low levels of pannexin-1 in Behçet's syndrome.

Behçet's syndrome (BS) is a chronic, multisystemic and inflammatory syndrome. In our study, we aimed to compare the initiator, effector and inflammatory caspases and pannexin channel protein, which is thought to have an activity in inflammation, in the inflammatory process of BS, with healthy subjects, to investigate their level in patients and their relationship with the clinical findings. Forty-six patients who were under follow-up for BS in the Sivas Cumhuriyet University Medical Faculty Department of Internal Diseases, Rheumatology Unit, between January 2017 and June 2017 and 44 healthy controls (HC) who did not have any rheumatic, systemic or metabolic diseases, were enrolled in this study. The mean serum pannexin-1 level was 6.36 (4.21-527.2) pg/mL in the BS group and 255.8 (5.38-2000) pg/mL in the HC group. Serum pannexin-1 levels were statistically significantly lower in the BS group (P<0.0001). The measured mean serum caspase-3 level was 12.04 (11.25-43.69) pg/mL in the group with BS and 12.1 (11.19-484.3) pg/mL in the HC group (P=0.143), mean serum caspase-9 level was 22 (5.14-29.33) pg/mL in the BS group and 22.01 (11.23-850) pg/mL in the HC group (P=0.593), mean serum caspase-14 level was 6 (5.2-8.21) pg/mL in the BS group and 6.15 (5.7-353) pg/mL in the HC group (P=0.053). Comparison of serum caspase-3, caspase-9 and caspase-14 levels in subjects with BS and in the HC group did not reveal any statistically significant differences. In honor of the 85th anniversary of Vladimir Vasilyevich Potemkin

We are celebrating the 85 anniversary and 61 years of research, pedagogical and medical activities of one of the nation’s leading endocrinologists, the promoter of academic endocrinology, the founder and the first head of the department of endocrinology of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (RNIMU)&#x0D; Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Professor Vladimir Vasilyevich Potemkin.&#x0D; V.V. Potemkin was the first in our country who began to teach endocrinology at the department of internal diseases of the pediatric faculty of the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute (now Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (RNIM). In 1972, after his transfer to the Department of General Medicine, V.V. Potemkin established a course of endocrinology at the chair of internal medicine. Soon, endocrinology became an independent course and on its basis a separate chair was set up.&#x0D; Heading first the course and then the chair for 40 years, V.V. Potemkin proved himself a talented teacher, scientist, and excellent clinicist.&#x0D; V.V. Potemkin is the author of 7 textbooks on various aspects of endocrinology, including the nation’s first fundamental manual Endocrinology, published, in addition to Russian, also in French, Spanish and twice in English.&#x0D; In his research work, V.V. Potemkin focuses on the problems of pathogenesis, clinical aspects, and treatment of diabetes and obesity. Research results obtained by V.V. Potemkin in studying the development of oxidative stress and impaired insulin-binding blood activity in patients with newly diagnosed T2D with normal body weight and suffering from obesity made it possible to find two different pathogenetic mechanisms underlying their hyperglycemia.&#x0D; V.V. Potemkin studied the role of cytokines in the development of diabetic foot syndrome, which led to the conclusion that the criteria for the effectiveness of treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes complicated by diabetic foot syndrome, along with normoglycemia are also decreased activity of lipid peroxidation, stabilization of antioxidant defence, normalization of the level of TNF-alpha proinflammatory cytokine.&#x0D; In troduction of V.V. Potemkin’s findings into clinical practice helps to improve the results of treatment of patients with diabetic foot syndrome, prevent gangrene, and reduce their direct and indirect financial costs.&#x0D; Professor V.V. Potemkin celebrates his anniversary at the heirght of his creative powers. We wish our dear colleague good health, inexhaustible energy, and new creative successes for many years!

Development of the city hospital in Novi Sad - part II

At the end of the Second World War, the General State Hospital had seven departments, the same facilities, and the same bed capacity as in the pre-war period. In the newly formed state of Yugoslavia, intensive growth and modernization of the hospital began, despite the great financial difficulties. The hospital became the Main Provincial Hospital and new departments and services were established. Mainly during the 1960s and 1970s, ten new surgery departments were established, which later became independent clinics. The surgery departments occupied pavilions 1, 2, 3 and 4. Complex and contemporary abdominal and thoracic surgeries were performed. The Department of Internal Diseases became the Clinic of Internal Diseases and in 1964 it was moved to a newly equipped four-story building. The Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics was founded and it was moved into a modern, purpose-built facility with a 230 bed capacity for adult patients and 105 for newborns. Rapid progress has also been made in the development of the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, Clinic of Eye Diseases, Clinic of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases, Neurology and Psychiatry Clinics, Clinic of Dermatovenereology Diseases, Medical Rehabilitation Clinic - as well as a modern laboratory, X-ray, blood transfusion, and polyclinic services. After the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and the Clinical Center of Vojvodina, this large tertiary medical institution is the source of pride for Novi Sad. Founded 110 years ago, the hospital is still dedicated to providing better healthcare for patients.
