Experimental Investigation of the Impact of Niobium Additions on the Structural Characteristics and Properties of Ti-5Cr-xNb Alloys for Biomedical Applications.

In this study, a series of Ti-5Cr-xNb alloys with varying Nb content (ranging from 1 to 40 wt.%) were investigated to assess their suitability as implant materials. Comprehensive analyses were conducted, including phase analysis, microscopy examination, mechanical testing, and corrosion resistance evaluation. The results revealed significant structural alterations attributed to Nb addition, notably suppressing the formation of the ω phase and transitioning from α' + β + ω to single β phase structures. Moreover, the incorporation of Nb markedly improved the alloys' plastic deformation ability and reduced their elastic modulus. In particular, the Ti-5Cr-25Nb alloy demonstrated high values in corrosion potential and polarization resistance, signifying exceptional corrosion resistance. This alloy also displayed high bending strength (approximately 1500 MPa), a low elastic modulus (approximately 80 GPa), and outstanding elastic recovery and plastic deformation capabilities. These aggregate outcomes indicate the promising potential of the β-phase Ti-5Cr-25Nb alloy for applications in orthopedic and dental implants.

Results of application of the IRIS dental implants with the surface modified by the method of plasma electrolytic oxidation

Surface modifications of dental implants to provide optimal conditions for osseointegration remains an urgent task in modern dental implantology. A few publications demonstrate that the surface of the dental implants modified by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) possess a combination of several important features that promote osteointegration: optimal micro roughness within 1-7 microns, high chemical purity, and mechanical strength [8,20].The aim. To evaluate the clinical efficacy of IRIS implants with a new surface modified by the PEO method (hereinafter referred to as IRIS PEO).Materials and methods. Based on the Patrice Lumumba RUDN Medical Center and the Center of Medical Care for Dental Diseases, FGBU «Central Clinical Hospital with Polyclinic» of the Presidential Affairs Department of the Russian Federation, 60 patients aged 27 to 52 years with partial tooth loss were examined and treated. The patients received 1 IRIS-PEO implant each on the upper or lower jaw. All implants were placed with the force from 35 to 50 N/cm2, with gingiva shapers. Prosthetics were performed after 2 months on the lower jaw and after 4 months on the upper jaw. Before taking impressions, the stability of implants was measured using the Penguin RFA (Integration Diagnostic Sweden AB, Sweden). One year after prosthetics, the neck resorption of the implants was evaluated.Results. Because of the treatment, all prosthetic constructions met the functional and aesthetic requirements. The stability indices of implants in ISQ units on the upper jaw averaged 75±3.4, on the lower jaw 79±2.4. Bone resorption in the implants’ neck area 1 year after the end of the treatment was not observed. The pilot clinical study of the IRIS-PEO implants allowed to optimize the terms of rehabilitation and to obtain high functional and esthetic result in the treatment of patients with tooth loss.Conclusions. Pilot clinical implementation of the implants of the IRIS system with the surface modified by plasma electrolytic oxidation demonstrated the possibility of open management of the implants with the gingiva shaper, to carry out prosthetics in 2 months on the lower jaw and 4 months on the upper jaw. No neck resorption was observed one year after prosthetics.

Do metal artifact reduction algorithms influence the detection of implant-related injuries to the inferior alveolar canal in CBCT images?

BackgroundThe routine application of dental implants for replacing missing teeth has revolutionized restorative and prosthetic dentistry. However, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) evaluations of structures adjacent to the implants are limited by metal artifacts. There are several methods for reducing metal artifacts, but this remains a challenging task. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of metal artifact reduction (MAR) algorithms in identifying injuries of implants to the inferior alveolar canal in CBCT images.MethodIn this in vitro study, mono-cortical bone windows were created and the inferior alveolar canal was revealed. Using 36 implants, pilot drill and penetration damage of the implant tip into the canal was simulated and compared to the control implants with distance from the canal. CBCT images were evaluated by four experienced observers with and without the MAR algorithm and compared to direct vision as the gold standard. The values of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were obtained and compared by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (α = 0.05).ResultThe area under the ROC curve values for detection of pilot drill injuries varied between 0.840–0.917 and 0.639–0.854 in the active and inactive MAR conditions, respectively. The increase in ROC area was only significant for one of the observers (P = 0.010). For diagnosing penetrative injuries, the area under the ROC curve values was between 0.990–1.000 and 0.722–1.000 in the active and inactive MAR conditions, respectively. The improvement of ROC curve values in active MAR mode was only significant for one of the observers (P = 0.006).ConclusionActivation of MAR improved the diagnostic values of CBCT images in detecting both types of implant-related injuries to the inferior alveolar canal. However, for most observers, this increase was not statistically significant.

Cyclic Fatigue Properties of Titanium Alloys for Application in Dental Implants.

The present study investigated the cyclic fatigue properties of titanium alloys (Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-7Nb) as implant materials and compared their properties with those of commercially pure titanium. Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-7Nb cylinders with diameters of 3.0 mm were examined. The surfaces of the cylinders were roughened by sand blasting with alumina particles and acid etching. Static and cyclic tests were performed according to ISO 14801:2016. The yield force in the static test (YS) was measured in 5 specimens of each alloy using a universal testing machine. The yield force in a cyclic test (YC) was measured in 20 specimens of each alloy using the staircase method, which involved applying a cyclic load at a frequency of 10 Hz for 106 cycles. After the cyclic loading tests, cross-sections of the specimens were examined under an optical microscope. The YS values for Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-7Nb were 1463 N±93 N and 1405 N±79 N, respectively, and the YC values were 870 N±58 N and 853 N±202 N, respectively. Microscopic observation revealed cracks on the tensile side of some of the specimens, including run outs and failures. The results of this study suggest that the YC values for Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-7Nb were 40% less than those for YS. The yield force of Grade-4 Cp-Ti significantly decreased after cyclic loading. The YC values for Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-7Nb were approximately 900 N, which was markedly greater than that for commercially pure, Grade-4 titanium (700 N).

Cheminformatics-Based Design and Synthesis of Hydroxyapatite/Collagen Nanocomposites for Biomedical Applications.

This paper presents a novel cheminformatics approach for the design and synthesis of hydroxyapatite/collagen nanocomposites, which have potential biomedical applications in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and orthopedic and dental implants. The nanocomposites are synthesized by the co-precipitation method with different ratios of hydroxyapatite and collagen. Their mechanical, biological, and degradation properties are analyzed using various experimental and computational techniques. Attenuated total reflection-Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray diffraction unveil the low crystallinity and nanoscale particle size of hydroxyapatite (22.62 nm) and hydroxyapatite/collagen composites (14.81 nm). These findings are substantiated by scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, confirming the Ca/P ratio between 1.65 and 1.53 and attesting to the formation of non-stoichiometric apatites in all samples, further validated by molecular simulation. The antimicrobial activity of the nanocomposites is evaluated in vitro against several bacterial and fungal strains, demonstrating their medical potential. Additionally, in silico analyses are performed to predict the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion properties and the bioavailability of the collagen samples. This study paves the way for the development of novel biomaterials using chemoinformatics tools and methods, facilitating the optimization of design and synthesis parameters, as well as the prediction of biological outcomes. Future research directions should encompass the investigation of in vivo biocompatibility and bioactivity of the nanocomposites, while exploring further applications and functionalities of these innovative materials.

Biomaterials and Clinical Application of Dental Implants in Relation to Bone Density-A Narrative Review.

Titanium has been the material of choice for dental implant fixtures due to its exceptional qualities, such as its excellent balance of rigidity and stiffness. Since zirconia is a soft-tissue-friendly material and caters to esthetic demands, it is an alternative to titanium for use in implants. Nevertheless, bone density plays a vital role in determining the material and design of implants. Compromised bone density leads to both early and late implant failures due to a lack of implant stability. Therefore, this narrative review aims to investigate the influence of implant material/design and surgical technique on bone density from both biomechanical and biological standpoints. Relevant articles were included for analysis. Dental implant materials can be fabricated from titanium, zirconia, and PEEK. In terms of mechanical and biological aspects, titanium is still the gold standard for dental implant materials. Additionally, the macro- and microgeometry of dental implants play a role in determining and planning the appropriate treatment because it can enhance the mechanical stress transmitted to the bone tissue. Under low-density conditions, a conical titanium implant design, longer length, large diameter, reverse buttress with self-tapping, small thread pitch, and deep thread depth are recommended. Implant material, implant design, surgical techniques, and bone density are pivotal factors affecting the success rates of dental implant placement in low-density bone. Further study is required to find the optimal implant material for a clinical setting's bone state.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester ameliorates titanium particle-induced bone loss and inflammatory reaction in a mouse acute model

With the increasing clinical application of dental and orthopedic implants, the problem of peri-implant osteolysis has attracted attention. The inflammatory response and osteoclast differentiation induced by wear particles play an important role in peri-implant bone loss. However, the treatment of peri-implant osteolysis is still lacking. In the present study, we investigated the effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) on titanium particles induced bone loss in a mouse model. We found that CAPE significantly suppressed titanium particle-induced bone loss in vivo. CAPE treatment decreased ratio of nuclear factor kappa B receptor activator ligand (RANKL)/osteoprotegerin (OPG) and subsequently reduced osteoclastogenesis in the mouse model. In addition, CAPE downregulated the expression and secretion of interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) stimulated by titanium particles in vivo. In summary, we conclude that CAPE prevent the titanium particles-induced bone loss.

Extra-short implants (≤ 6.5 mm in length) in atrophic and non-atrophic sites to support screw-retained full-arch restoration: a retrospective clinical study

PurposeIncreasing scientific evidence support extending the application of short dental implants to non-atrophic dental arches. The purpose of this study has been the evaluation of extra-short implants (≤ 6.5 mm in length) that were placed in atrophic and non-atrophic anatomical sites to support the same prosthesis.MethodsFor that, a retrospective study was conducted by including complete dentures that were solely supported by extra-short implants in the maxilla and/or the mandible. Clinical data about patients, implants, anatomy, and prosthesis were obtained. Statistical analysis was performed to assess implant- and prosthesis-survival, changes in the marginal bone level and prosthetic complications.ResultsA total of 87 implants in 15 screw-retained complete dentures were assessed. None of the prostheses nor the extra-short implant failed during the follow-up of 27.2 ± 15.4 months. The changes in the mesial and distal marginal bone level were + 0.15 ± 0.51 mm and + 0.11 ± 0.50 mm, respectively. Comparing the implants according to the availability of sufficient bone to place longer implants, indicated the absence of significant differences in the changes of the mesial marginal bone level. However, the changes in the distal marginal bone level showed a statistically significant difference in favor of implants that were placed in non-atrophic sites. Two events of screw loosening were reported that were resolved by retightening the screws.ConclusionsImplant- and prosthesis-related outcomes support the use of extra-short implants in atrophic and non-atrophic site to support complete prosthesis.Graphical

Nanomaterials Modulating the Fate of Dental-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Involved in Oral Tissue Reconstruction: A Systematic Review.

The critical challenges in repairing oral soft and hard tissue defects are infection control and the recovery of functions. Compared to conventional tissue regeneration methods, nano-bioactive materials have become the optimal materials with excellent physicochemical properties and biocompatibility. Dental-derived mesenchymal stem cells (DMSCs) are a particular type of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) with great potential in tissue regeneration and differentiation. This paper presents a review of the application of various nano-bioactive materials for the induction of differentiation of DMSCs in oral and maxillofacial restorations in recent years, outlining the characteristics of DMSCs, detailing the biological regulatory effects of various nano-materials on stem cells and summarizing the material-induced differentiation of DMSCs into multiple types of tissue-induced regeneration strategies. Nanomaterials are different and complementary to each other. These studies are helpful for the development of new nanoscientific research technology and the clinical transformation of tissue reconstruction technology and provide a theoretical basis for the application of nanomaterial-modified dental implants. We extensively searched for papers related to tissue engineering bioactive constructs based on MSCs and nanomaterials in the databases of PubMed, Medline, and Google Scholar, using keywords such as "mesenchymal stem cells", "nanotechnology", "biomaterials", "dentistry" and "tissue regeneration". From 2013 to 2023, we selected approximately 150 articles that align with our philosophy.

Structural, cell culture, antibacterial and in vitro bioactivity analysis of highly-ordered Al2O3 nanotube coating with decorated Ag2O nanoparticles on Ti-6Al-4V

The alumina nanotubular arrays (Al2O3 NTs) are a promising candidate for application in bone and dental implants for their better mechanical and chemical behavior in the human body compared to titanium. Nevertheless, the biocompatibility and antibacterial activity of Al2O3 NTs still need further improvement to meet the requirements of safe implants. In this research, Al2O3 NTs coating was proposed on Ti-6Al-4 V via magnetron sputtering pure aluminum followed by an anodization and sealing process, then heat treated for 1 h at 450 °C. After that, Ag2O nanoparticles (NPs) were decorated on the nanotubular walls under controlled conditions using magnetron sputtering. The findings demonstrated that the proposed Al2O3 NTs-Ag2O NPs promoted in-vitro bioactivity alongside excellent antibacterial activity against E.coli and S.aureus bacteria within 4 h and 6 h, respectively. Additionally, the cell-culture showed healthy growth of the human osteoblast cells (HOb) on the Al2O3 NTs-Ag2O NPs. The new design of coating also shows that the total cumulative Ag+released after 14 days is significantly low which is safe and provides the long-term antibacterial activity. It is illustrated that Al2O3 NTs-Ag2O NPs have promising biomedical properties to enhance the biofunctionality of biomedical-grade Ti-6Al-4 V implants.

Properties of SiCN Films Relevant to Dental Implant Applications.

The application of surface coatings is a popular technique to improve the performance of materials used for medical and dental implants. Ternary silicon carbon nitride (SiCN), obtained by introducing nitrogen into SiC, has attracted significant interest due to its potential advantages. This study investigated the properties of SiCN films deposited via PECVD for dental implant coatings. Chemical composition, optical, and tribological properties were analyzed by adjusting the gas flow rates of NH3, CH4, and SiH4. The results indicated that an increase in the NH3 flow rate led to higher deposition rates, scaling from 5.7 nm/min at an NH3 flow rate of 2 sccm to 7 nm/min at an NH3 flow rate of 8 sccm. Concurrently, the formation of N-Si bonds was observed. The films with a higher nitrogen content exhibited lower refractive indices, diminishing from 2.5 to 2.3 as the NH3 flow rate increased from 2 sccm to 8 sccm. The contact angle of SiCN films had minimal differences, while the corrosion rate was dependent on the pH of the environment. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the properties and potential applications of SiCN films for use in dental implants.

Bioactive Glass Modified with Zirconium Incorporation for Dental Implant Applications: Fabrication, Structural, Electrical, and Biological Analysis.

Implantology is crucial for restoring aesthetics and masticatory function in oral rehabilitation. Despite its advantages, certain issues, such as bacterial infection, may still arise that hinder osseointegration and result in implant rejection. This work aims to address these challenges by developing a biomaterial for dental implant coating based on 45S5 Bioglass® modified by zirconium insertion. The structural characterization of the glasses, by XRD, showed that the introduction of zirconium in the Bioglass network at a concentration higher than 2 mol% promotes phase separation, with crystal phase formation. Impedance spectroscopy was used, in the frequency range of 102-106 Hz and the temperature range of 200-400 K, to investigate the electrical properties of these Bioglasses, due to their ability to store electrical charges and therefore enhance the osseointegration capacity. The electrical study showed that the presence of crystal phases, in the glass ceramic with 8 mol% of zirconium, led to a significant increase in conductivity. In terms of biological properties, the Bioglasses exhibited an antibacterial effect against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and did not show cytotoxicity for the Saos-2 cell line at extract concentrations up to 25 mg/mL. Furthermore, the results of the bioactivity test revealed that within 24 h, a CaP-rich layer began to form on the surface of all the samples. According to our results, the incorporation of 2 mol% of ZrO2 into the Bioglass significantly improves its potential as a coating material for dental implants, enhancing both its antibacterial and osteointegration properties.

Physicochemical and biological properties of Y-TZP ceramics modified by infiltration with different bioactive glasses for dental implant

Yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (Y-TZP) are widely used as dental materials due to their excellent mechanical properties and appearance. However, its biological inertness limits its application for dental implants. In this study, the dry-press molded and low-temperature pre-sintered Y-TZP compacts were immersed in 58S, 68S, and 77S bioactive glass (BG) sols prepared by sol-gel method. The different BG sols were infiltrated into the Y-TZP pre-sintered compacts under negative pressure. After aging and drying, the infiltrated Y-TZP compacts were rapidly sintered at 1410 °C through microwave sintering. Results of physicochemical characterizations, including phase composition, morphology, microstructure, and flexural strength, confirm that these three BGs have successfully infiltrated into the Y-TZP matrix and remained therein. Although the modification compromised the densification and mechanical properties of Y-TZP, the flexural strength of the modified Y-TZP/BG samples could still meet the requirement of ISO 6872:2015 (Class 4: >500 MPa). Furthermore, the modified Y-TZP/BG samples showed better bioactivity, primarily characterized by superior protein adsorption capacity and the sustained release of osteogenic-related ions into the culture medium without inducing significant pH changes. Cells cultured on the surface of Y-TZP samples also exhibited better adhesion, spreading, viability, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation. The enhanced bioactivity and osteogenic inductivity of Y-TZP/BG samples highlight the promising potential of Y-TZP ceramics infiltrated with different BGs for dental implant applications.

Nano-scaled surfaces and sustainable-antibiotic-release from polymeric coating for application on intra-osseous implants and trans-mucosal abutments

Multifunctional surfaces may display the potential to accelerate and promote the healing process around dental implants. However, the initial cellular biocompatibility, molecular activity, and the release of functionalized molecules from these novel surfaces require extensive investigation for clinical use. Aiming to develop and compare innovative surfaces for application in dental implants, the present study utilized titanium disks, which were treated and divided into four groups: machined (Macro); acid-etched (Micro); anodized-hydrophilic surface (TNTs); and anodized surface coated with a rifampicin-loaded polymeric layer (poly(lactide-co-glycolide), PLGA) (TNTsRIMP). The samples were characterized regarding their physicochemical properties and the cumulative release of rifampicin (RIMP), investigated at different pH values. Additionally, differentiated osteoblasts from mesenchymal cells were used for cell viability and qRT-PCR analysis. Antibacterial properties of each surface treatment were investigated against Staphylococcus epidermidis. TNTsRIMP demonstrated controlled drug release for up to 7 days in neutral pH environments. Osteogenic cell cultures indicated that all the evaluated surfaces showed biocompatibility. The TNTs group revealed up-regulated values for bone-related gene quantification in 7 days, followed by the TNTsRIMP group. Furthermore, the antibiotic-functionalized surface revealed effectiveness to inhibit S. epidermidis and stimulate promising conditions for osteogenic cell behavior. Characteristics such as nanomorphology and hydrophilicity were determinants for the up-regulated quantification of osteogenic biomarkers related to early bone maturation, encouraging application in intra-osseous implant surfaces; in addition, antibiotic-functionalized surfaces demonstrated significant higher antibacterial properties compared to the other groups. Our findings suggest that polymeric-antibiotic-loaded coating might be applied for the prevention of early infections, favoring its application in multifunctional surfaces for intra- and/or trans-mucosal components of dental implants, while, hydrophilic nanotextured surfaces promoted optimistic properties to stimulate early bone-related cell responses, favoring its application in bone-anchored surfaces.

Synthesis and characterization of Alocasia indica infused silver nanoparticles for dental implant applications

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were effectively synthesized in this research work from the leaves extract of Alocasia indica using the green synthesis method at room temperature for antimicrobial applications. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by different characterization processes such as Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-viz) spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and antibacterial analysis. The bio-reduction of the silver ions and the formation of nanoparticles were confirmed by the UV analysis observing the Plasmon resonance peak at 267 nm. The IR spectra have confirmed the presence of different bio-compounds. SEM analysis showed the circular structure of the synthesized nanoparticles with minimal diameter. The synthesized nanoparticles showed 99% inhibition against gram-positive S. aureus bacteria. The mechanisms of silver ions' antibacterial activity and anti-biofilm and their application in dental implants are also mentioned.

Surface modification improving the biological activity and osteogenic ability of 3D printing porous dental implants

Objective: To explore the mechanical properties, biological activity, and osteogenic ability of 3D printed TC4 titanium (Ti) alloy dental implants treated with surface modification.Methods: Dental implants with 30% porosity were manufactured using selective laser melting (SLM) technology (group 3D), while traditional numerically-controlled machine tools (CNC) were used to manufacture implants without porosity (group SL). The implants were then surface modified through sandblasting and acid etching (groups 3DA1 and SLA1), and then alkali etching (groups 3DA2 and SLA2). The physicochemical properties of the implants were measured using a Vickers hardness instrument, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and profilograph before and after surface modification. Next, the biocompatibility, bioactivity, and osteogenic ability of the implants were evaluated using apatite deposition experiments, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, and semiquantitative analysis of extracellular matrix mineralization.Results: There were significant differences in morphology, geometric accuracy, mechanical properties, surface roughness, and hydrophilicity between groups 3D and SL. Furthermore, surface modification improved the physicochemical properties of the porous implants. Implants with sandblasting, acid etching, and alkali etching demonstrated better biocompatibility, bioactivity, and osteogenic ability than implants without surface modification in both groups 3D and SL. Additionally, the implants of groups 3D have higher bioactivity than that of groups SL.Conclusion: Surface modification and the macroporous structure of implants can improve their bioactivity and osteogenic ability, enhancing the application of Ti alloy dental implants.

Bone density and proximal support effects on dental implant stability – Finite element analysis and in vitro experiments

ObjectivesThe application of dental implants presents the occurrence of implant failures associated with bone proximal support. This study aims to assess implant behavior, in particular implant stability and strain distribution in the bone at different bone densities, and the effect of proximal bone support. Material and methodsThree bone densities (D20, D15, and D10) were considered in the experimental in vitro study, represented by solid rigid polyurethane foam and two conditions of bone support in the proximal region. A finite element model was developed and validated experimentally and a Branemark model at a 3:1 scale was implanted in the experiments; the model was loaded and extracted. ResultsThe results of the experimental models validate the finite element models with a correlation R2 equal to 0.899 and NMSE of 7%. The implant extraction tests for the effect of bone properties in the maximum load were 2832 N for D20 and 792 N for D10. The effect of proximal bone support changes the implant stability was observed experimentally; at 1 mm less bone support decreases by 20% of stability and at 2 mm by 58% for D15 density. ConclusionsBone properties and bone quantity are important for the initial stability of the implant. A bone volume fraction of less than 24 g/cm3 exhibits poor behavior and is not indicated for implantation. Proximal bone support reduces the primary stability of the implant and the effect is critical in lower bone density.

Dental implants in growing patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Dental implants provide a suitable and reliable treatment for the replacement of missing teeth. Very few studies have been reported in the literature regarding the application of dental implants in growing and developing patients. This systematic review with meta-analysis aimed to systematically review the available literature regarding the application of dental implants in growing and developing patients. A detailed search in the literature was performed with the help of keywords such as dental implants, treatment planning, children, adolescents, growing patients, and developing jaws. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Sciences, and Ovidsp databases were searched for papers published between 1980 and 2021. The papers focused on children, adolescents, developing jaws, and implants. In this systemic review, the dataset concerned with the type of study, aim, number of patients and specimens included, age of patients, total number of implants placed, total number of implants evaluated, medical history of developmental disorders of teeth such as ectodermal dysplasia, congenital absence of teeth, were evaluated. Out of the total literature searched, 33.45% of studies and case reports documented no complications in any implant treatment. In 47.21% of studies and case reports, there was both success and failure of implants while in 13.21% of studies and case reports there was a complete failure of implants. The most common cause for loss of permanent teeth in growing children and adolescent patients was dental trauma (73.13%) followed by congenital developmental disturbance of teeth (18.19%). It can be concluded from this systematic review that the use of implants in edentulous growing patients is determined by several parameters, including the patient's overall health, the stage of jaw growth, the number of teeth to be replaced, and soft and hard tissue anatomic features. Still, the use of a conservative treatment strategy for missing teeth management in patients with developing jaws is common and recommended until the patient's growth is completed, as there are chances of changes in the position of dental implants placed in the developing and growing jaws due to the continuous changes taking place in their body. However, placement of implants can be done in these patients successfully with proper treatment planning and taking into account the phase of growth with proper follow-up.
