Dental caries, oral hygiene status and deleterious habits among migrant construction workers of Belagavi, India.

Occupation significantly influences oral health, with factors like the work environment, stress levels, access to dental care, and job-related habits playing crucial roles. The oral health of construction workers, especially migrant workers, is a noteworthy concern. Understanding the oral health of this population is crucial for enhancing their quality of life through various means. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of dental caries, oral hygiene status, and deleterious habits in this occupational group of Belagavi district, Karnataka. Study design was cross-sectional in nature. Before commencement of the study a pilot study was conducted. Multi-stage random sampling technique was employed, and 610 participants were recruited for the study. Trained and calibrated examiners recorded WHO dentition status and treatment needs (2013) and Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHI-S). Collected data was analyzed using descriptive analysis, chi-square, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis. The prevalence of dental caries among construction workers was significantly high (81%), and poor oral hygiene was observed among 36.9% of them. The prevalence of smoking, the tobacco chewing habit, and alcohol consumption among the construction workers was found to be 21.6%, 59.9%, and 37.3%, respectively. The dependence of OHI-S and DMFT on predictors (age, gender and deleterious habits) was found to be 21.5% and 39.6%, respectively. Migrant construction workers in Belagavi had a high caries prevalence, poor oral hygiene status, and a high prevalence of deleterious habits such as tobacco use. These results emphasize the necessity of awareness and dental health education programs to improve the oral health of construction workers.

THE INFLUENCE DENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION ON BEHAVIOR AND DEBRIS INDEX OF STUDENTS

Dental caries is an infectious disease resulting from the demineralization of enamel and dentin, closely linked to the consumption of cariogenic foods. Typically, children entering school age face a heightened risk of caries due to their inclination toward snacking on sweet foods and drinks. The implementation of Dental Health Education (DHE) plays a crucial role in enhancing students' comprehension of dental and oral health. Specifically, educating children on proper teeth-brushing techniques should include practical examples and applicable methods. This study aims to assess the impact of dental health education on the behavior and fecal index of students at SDN Mesjid Lheu in Aceh Besar District. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research follows a control group equivalent to pre-test and post-test. The total population of 60 children was divided into two groups: the intervention group and the control group. Quantitative data analysis involved the paired sample t-test and the independent t-test. Significant differences were observed in the mean values of knowledge, attitudes, and actions, as well as the OHI-S scores immediately after and one month following the intervention between the treatment group and the control group (p<0.05). To reinforce children's dental health habits at home, it is advisable to involve parents in dental health education programs, as their information and resources are integral to providing support and monitoring.

IMPACT OF DEMONSTRATIVE TEETH BRUSHING METHOD ON STUDENT BEHAVIOR AND DENTAL HYGIENE

Introduction: The mastery of proper tooth-brushing techniques plays a pivotal role in upholding oral health standards. This research underscores the impact of demonstrative teeth brushing method on student behavior and dental hygiene among fourth-grade students at SDN 2 Lamcot in Kabupaten Aceh Besar. Methods: Employing a quasi-experimental design with an equivalent control group, the study conducted pre-test and post-test evaluations.The research incorporated a total of 60 children, distributed into an intervention group and a control group. Quantitative data analysis was conducted through paired samples t-test and Independent T-test. Results:The results exhibited statistically significant disparities (p <0.05) in mean values of knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified (OHI-S) scores immediately post-intervention and one month later between the treatment and control groups. Conclusion: Emphasizing the importance of parental involvement in dental health education programs, the study stresses the need for parental knowledge and resources to reinforce and monitor children's dental health practices at home.

Penyuluhan Pentingnya Vaksinasi Covid 19, Pelatihan Pencegahan Deman Berdarah Dengue dan Edukasi kesehatan Gigi untuk Kader Kesehatan Kecamatan Palmerah, Jakarta Barat

In November 2021, Covid-19 vaccination coverage in the special capital area (DKI) Jakarta stage 1 (one) reached 78.1% and stage 2 (two) 60.4% for local identity cards (KTP) DKI Jakarta. Covid-19 vaccination coverage for area the Palmerah District stage 1 (one) has reached 96.56% but unfortunately for stage 2 (two) it has not met the expected target. In order to reduce the Covid-19 case, the regional administration (Pemda) of DKI Jakarta has continued given education and socialization to increase public awareness in implementing health protocols and providing Covid-19 vaccinations to the public.Another problem that occurs in the Palmerah District is the increase cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). This increase is due to the rainy season which is the breeding time for the Aedes Aegepty mosquito. DHF can be prevented through controlling the Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) programme. Public awareness for healthy behavior and maintaining a mosquito-free home environment is still lacking therefor counseling and training are needed for the community to prevent dengue.Since the Covid 19 pandemic, the Dental Health Education Program could not be implemented in Palmerah Health Center due to pandemic and limited resources. Providing dental health education (DHE) to health cadres will increase oral health in community. The results obtained after the training significantly increased the knowledge of the cadres and community members who participated in the event. Thus this collaboration program should continue regularly to maintain knowledge and health practice in community.

Dental Health Status Among Adult Population in Mosul City

This study was done to evaluate the Oral health status (dental caries , periodontal disease and treatment needs) in mosul adult individuals the sample include 250 individuals age with ranging between 20-40 years of bothSexes using sharp dental caries explorers with W.H.O periodontal probs to detect periodontal health by the use of DMFT index of W.H.O (1997) and CPITN by W.H.O (1987) .The mean DMFT for the total sample was (3.98 ± 0.15) which was increased with increasing age for the different age groups with significant difference in the mean DMFT for total males and females has been found.The results also showed that the total number of health 468 with a mean of 1.12 tooth /person in need of treatment is the most prevalent needed one surface filling and 308 teeth with a mean 1.01 tooth/person needed two or more surfaces filling.According to the highest CPITN there was significant difference between male and female in calculus at p ≤ 0.05 and shallow pockets at p ≤ 0.01.The results also revealed that the mean number of healthy sextants for the total sample was 4.13 while for bleeding and calculus were 0.82 and 0.31 respectively. It means that the treatment need for periodontal disease is more toward oral hygiene procedure and prophylaxis as general. The dental health education program is an essential activity for promoting optimal oral health and preventing oral disease.

Dental Caries Prevention Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practice among Patients at a University Hospital in Guangzhou, China.

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) of patients regarding dental caries prevention in a university hospital in Guangzhou, China. Materials and Methods: A hospital-based KAP survey was conducted in a cross-sectional manner at the First Affiliated Hospital in Guangzhou, China, from 1 September to 30 September 2022. Questionnaires were distributed to eligible patients, resulting in the participation of 251 individuals. The questionnaire consisted of five sections capturing socio-demographic data and exploring participants' knowledge, attitudes, practice, and accurate preventive dental caries knowledge. Descriptive statistics and a generalized linear model with univariate tests were used for analysis. Results: The study results show that the knowledge score 7.97 (±0.91) and attitudes score 7.67 (±0.89) among the participants were good while the practice score was 6.80 (±0.81) moderate. The majority of participants identified tooth infections (81.3%), bacteria (92%), and sugar (89.2%) as the main causes of gum bleeding and tooth decay. Brushing (96%) and fluoride (80.5%) were also recognized as essential for preventing tooth decay. Of oral diseases, 94% were recognized as potentially affecting overall health. The vast majority ranging from 92.8% to 98%, believed that oral health is crucial to overall health and that regular check-ups and proper brushing habits are beneficial. There is a significant association of gender with age (p = 0.018), occupation (p = 0.050), lifestyle habit (p = 0.012), and knowledge score; whole education is significantly associated with practice score (p = 0.050). Conclusions: The majority of patients exhibited accurate knowledge and attitudes with moderate practice towards dental caries prevention, with socio-demographic factors playing a major role. However, effective implementation of dental health education programs across the healthcare system is still required to further enhance outcomes.

Pattern of Tooth Extraction and Use of Space Maintainers in Paediatric Dental Patients in Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja

The primary dentition is essential in the maintenance of normal occlusion in the permanent dentition. Both dentitions enhance aesthetic, speech and are functional in nature. Early loss of the primary dentition necessitates the placement of space maintainers. This study determined the pattern of tooth extraction of patients attending the paediatric dental clinic in Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja and the use of space maintainers. A retrospective study carried out using the dental records of patients who attended the Paediatric dental clinic, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 20 (IBM, New York). The prevalence of tooth extraction was 49.8% among a population of 410 subjects with a total of 353 extracted teeth. The male to female ratio was 1:1.37. Majority (58.3%) of the subjects had only one tooth extracted. The commonest reason for extraction was retained primary teeth (35.8%). The commonest arch and segment of extraction was the mandible (56.1%) and the anterior teeth (51.0%). The commonest tooth extracted was upper right primary central incisor (7.6%). The most common space maintainer was band and loop. Retained teeth was the most common reason for tooth extraction followed by sequelae of dental caries, caries and trauma. This highlights the need for implementation of oral health prevention policies with regards to the use of fluoride, fissure sealants, silver diamine fluoride increased awareness of safety protocols to mitigate traumatic injuries and introduction of dental health education programs in schools and community.

Effectiveness of Parental Participation in a Dental Health Program on the Oral Health Status of 8-10-year-old School Children.

Prevention-focused school dental health program (SDHP) is a cost-effective intervention that countries can use to lessen the problem of dental diseases by educating on oral health. The current study aims to assess the effectiveness of parental participation in an SDHP held at periodic intervals on the oral health status (OHS) of children aged 8-10 years attending a local school in Southern India. The longitudinal study was scheduled between September 2018 and June 2019 (36 weeks) in 120 participants who were healthy school children aged 8-10 years at a private school in Kelambakkam. This 36-week duration study assessed the effectiveness of school dental health education program with and without parents at every 12 weeks interval. The OHS of subjects was assessed using the standard indices [i.e., Decayed, Missing and Filled permanent teeth (DMFT), decayed, extracted, and filled primary teeth (deft), and Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S)]. Friedman's test and Mann-Whitney U test were used for analyzing the data as indicated. In postintervention visits, children with parental participation had significantly lower caries increments than children without parental participation. While the oral hygiene index scores have improved significantly in both groups over time, the improvement in the parental participation group was greater. It can be concluded that the SDHP is an educational driver that showed a constructive impression on the oral health of children. Factors Associated with Self-reported Oral Health Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults in a Rural Province of Thailand.

BackgroundLimited research has focused on self-reported oral health in older Thai individuals.ObjectiveWe explored the factors associated with self-reported oral health among older adults residing in rural Thailand.MethodsThis cross-sectional study included males and females aged ≥ 60 years living in Phon Thong district, Roi Et province, a rural area in northeast Thailand. This community-based study was conducted between May 2021 and December 2021. A trained interviewer administered a face-to-face interview questionnaire. Study data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s chi-squared test, and binary logistic regression.ResultsIn total, 249 older individuals completed the interviews. Most study participants were aged ≥ 67 years (55.8%), with a mean age of 66.92 years. Pearson’s chi-squared test showed statistically significant associations between self-reported oral health and age (P = 0.035) and chewing ability (P = 0.005). The multivariate binary logistic regression analysis revealed significant associations between self-reported poor oral health and older age (AOR = 0.290, 95% CI: 0.091–0.925) and chewing discomfort (AOR = 4.032, 95% CI:1.119–14.56). We observed no significant associations between self-reported oral health and sex, toothbrushing frequency, and speaking ability.ConclusionYounger respondents with chewing discomfort were more likely to self-report poor oral health. In rural areas, nonprofessional health providers can use a single-item self-reported oral health question as a simple tool for evaluating oral health status in the elderly. Moreover, dental health education programs are needed to help older individuals improve their oral self-care, access dental services, and achieve appropriate oral function. Such programs are essential for promoting good oral health in this population, particularly among “younger” elders.

A training model for the community healthcare volunteers’ knowledge on periodontal disease and birth outcome

Background: Indonesian community healthcare volunteers and pregnant women have not received sufficient special training; they lack knowledge about periodontal disease risks during pregnancy and childbirth. The purpose of this research was to increase community healthcare volunteers' knowledge about periodontal disease, which is a risk during pregnancy and childbirth.Methods: The 9 step theory based training model included stages from problem identification to evaluation that would be incorporated into dental and oral health education programs at public health centers. A quantitative pre-experiment with one subject group compared pre-test and post-test designs. Dentists provided 9-step training to 53 community healthcare volunteers at a health center, East Jakarta. Fifty pregnant women were then given similar training by the community healthcare volunteers.Results: The result was an increase in knowledge among community healthcare volunteers and pregnant women (α=0.05; p=0.000 with the Wilcoxon test). No significant difference was observed on educational aids between flipchart and puzzle cards in increasing knowledge among community healthcare volunteers (p=0.969 with an independent t-test) and pregnant women (p=0.359 with the Mann-Whitney test).Conclusions: The 9-step theory–based training model was found to be effective in increasing knowledge among community healthcare volunteers. Flipchart and puzzle cards were equally effective in increasing knowledge among community healthcare volunteers and pregnant women.

Evaluation of awareness about dental points among dentists and defense aspirants: A cross-sectional study

Aim and Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the awareness about dental points among dentists and defense aspirants.Settings and Design: This was a cross-sectional questionnaire study.Materials and Methods: Two hundred and fifty dentists and 250 defense aspirants were included in the study. A self-assessed questionnaire was formulated separately for the dentists (nine items) and the defense aspirants (ten items) to assess the awareness about dental points, in which six questions were common for both the groups.Statistical Analysis Used: Chi-square goodness-of-fit test was used to compare the differences in the responses to the questions specific to the dentist and defense aspirant groups.Results: It shows that 56.9% of the defense aspirants and only 35.8% of the dentists were aware about scoring system which is necessary for defense selection. Nearly 59.9% of the dentists did not have adequate knowledge about the scoring system.Conclusion: Creating awareness is the first step of oral health education. Hence, dental health educational programs should be actively conducted in all health sectors of India to increase the awareness about dental points.

Oral Health Status and Treatment Needs of Chromium Mine Workers in India.

Several diseases are related to occupation. The workers in chromium mines may be exposed to hazardous environments. The objective of this research was to evaluate the oral health condition and treatment needs of chromium mine workers. This was a cross-sectional study conducted on workers in the chromium mines located in the Jajpur district, Odisha. The study included a total of 453 mine workers. The World Health Organization (WHO) oral health assessment proforma (1997) was used to assess the oral health status and treatment needs of the workers. Face-to-face interviews were conducted to acquire information on socio-demographic data, along with clinical examinations of type III. Frequency distribution analysis and independent-sample t-test were performed. The majority of mineworkers demonstrated poor oral health status with high caries experience (Decayed Missing and Filled Tooth (DMFT) = 3.13 ± 1.82). The prevalence of tobacco consumption was very prevalent among them (74.8%). Leukoplakia (13.2%) was the most commonly noted oromucosal lesions. The buccal mucosa (16.8%) and commissures of the lips (3.3%) were the most common affected sites. Most workers demonstrated poor periodontal conditions. More than half of the mine workers (53.6%) showed malocclusion. Restoration, extraction, and pulp care were needed in most of the workers. A critical intervention should be provided to promote oral hygiene among Indian chromium mine workers. Dental health education and tobacco cessation programs are of utmost importance to improve the health conditions of these workers.

Evaluation of a specially-designed educational and interventional programme on institutionalized visually impaired children: A prospective interventional study.

The aim of this study was to design, implement, and to evaluate the success of an oral health care programme specially designed for visually impaired children over a 12-month period. A structured questionnaire collected information regarding oral health knowledge and practices of the study population. A specially designed oral health education programme was conducted for the children and their teachers and reinforced after 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. The oral health status of the children was assessed and scored at baseline examination and after each follow-up visit. Independent t-test and paired t-test were used for comparison of scores. Spearman's correlation test was used to measure the correlation between knowledge and practices scores with oral hygiene status. The study population (5-16 years) had good knowledge about oral health which, however, did not translate into everyday practices. The overall oral hygiene scores declined from 2.06 ± 1.20 at the preliminary examination to 1.24±0.79 at the end of 12 months (p<0.001). The customized oral-health education programme was efficacious in improving the oral health of the visually impaired children, and the repetition and reinforcement components of this dental health education programme were of significant value in enhancing their oral health.

Impact of dental health intervention on cardiovascular metabolic risk: a pilot study of Japanese adults.

This study aimed to determine whether a dental health education program would reduce cardiometabolic risk (obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and hyperglycemia) in people with periodontitis. We used annual check-up data provided by the Japanese company's health insurance union. Of 182 male employees with cardiometabolic risk and periodontal pockets at baseline, 21 participants of the dental health education program and 21 non-participants matched for age, the presence of obesity, and periodontal pocket at baseline were allocated to the intervention (mean age, 53.3 ± 7.0) and the non-intervention groups (mean age, 52.9 ± 7.0), respectively. The program focused on self-removal of dental plaque with a toothbrush and interdental brush and comprised five sessions over 12 months. In the intervention group, waist circumference (cm) and diastolic blood pressure (mmHg) decreased from 88.4 ± 6.3 to 86.8 ± 6.3 and from 85.7 ± 8.2 to 82.6 ± 8.3, respectively (P < 0.05). Intergroup comparison showed significant improvement of systolic blood pressure (mmHg) in the intervention group (-3.7 ± 12.5) compared with the non-intervention group (4.0 ± 15.9) (P < 0.05) with no significant differences in the other parameters. The intervention group had a decrease in plaque accumulation and periodontitis symptoms, such as the depth of periodontal pocket and the presence of periodontal pocket and bleeding on probing, but an increase in the frequency of interdental brushing and duration of tooth brushing. Our findings show that dental self-care may improve blood pressure in people with cardiometabolic risk factors and periodontitis.

Emergency management of dental injury; preparedness among school teachers in Bhubaneswar, India.

School is the place, identified with a noticeable risk of Traumatic Dental Injuries (TDI) in children which have functional, esthetic and psychological effects. To assess the preparedness of concerning traumatic dental injuries and their management among school teachers and also to empower the clinician to frame a set of instructions for school teachers to handle the emergencies effectively at the site of the incident. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 330 school teachers enrolled in government and private schools of 24 randomly selected schools in Bhubaneswar city. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to collect information on participants demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitude and practice about emergency management of Traumatic Dental Injury. Chi-square test with level of significance set at 5% was used for statistical analysis. Statistically significant (p<0.05) correct responses were provided by 66.7% males and 35.6% females and 100% younger age teachers. Larger population perceived that their level of knowledge was not satisfactory as they responded for inadequate and don't know options which was significant in relation to gender and age (p<0.05) but not with respect to the type of school (p>0.05). All the respondents expressed the need for a training program. This study highlights the instantaneous need for tailor made dental health educational and preventive programs for school teachers in order to effectively manage the Traumatic Dental Injuries.

The Effect of Socioeconomic Level on Dental Caries among Preschool Children in Baghdad City

Background: Dental caries and periodontal disease are the most common oral problems. It may start earlyin life and if not treated may end with tooth loss. Oral health is influenced by the socioeconomic status inwhich the socialization of the child takes place.Aim of the Study: The survey was made to investigate the effect of socioeconomic status on dental cariesof preschool children.Subjects and Method: The total sample composed of 893 children aged (4-5) year selected randomly fromdifferent kindergartens in Baghdad governorate. WHO 2013 index was used for assessment of the dentalcaries experience and questionnaire was send to parents to assess their knowledge and behavior.Results: Results showed that the prevalence of dental caries was 98% for the total sample, highly significantdifferences were seen between SES and dental caries experience dmfs of primary teeth, highly significantrelation between SES and parents knowledge in all questions except questions concerning tooth decay andcrowding of the permanent dentition was no significant while in behavior questions a highly significantrelation was seen in all questions except questions concerning the type of bristle of the brush and preferabletime for eating sweets was no significant . Conclusion: Preschool children in Baghdad were found to have ahigh prevalence of dental cariesSES effect on the dental condition. Hence this survey highlighted the needfor children to dental health education programs and public and school preventive measures among thosechildren.

Estimation of Dental Anxiety Levels Before and After Dental Visit in Children with Visual Impairment Using Modified Dental Anxiety Scale in Braille Text.

Objective:Dental anxiety and fear of dental treatment in special children has been recognized as a public health dilemma. Dental anxiety (being the fear of unknown in a dental setting) would definitely have a substantial effect on the children with visual impairment. Assessment of the dental anxiety makes it possible to design intervention programs aimed at reducing the anxiety levels in children with visual impairment. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the dental anxiety levels before and after dental visit in children with visual impairment using Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) printed in braille.Materials and Methods:A total of 144 institutionalized children with visual impairment in the age group of 6–13 years, residing at an institutionalized blind school, participated in the study. Dental anxiety was assessed pre- and post-dental-screening visit using MDAS printed in braille. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed rank test.Results:Of 144 children, just before dental screening visit, 78 (54.1%) had severe dental anxiety, 52 (36.11%) had mild anxiety, and 14(9.72%) reported no anxiety, whereas after dental education, only 28 (19.44%) had severe anxiety, 22 (16.66%) had mild anxiety, and 94 (63.88%) reported no anxiety.Conclusion:In our study, there was a significant decrease in dental anxiety after dental screening and education. Therefore, proper behavior management techniques and dental health education programs would decrease dental anxiety in children with visual impairment.

ANIMASI DAN PERMAINAN EDS (ELEMENTARY DENTAL SCHOOL) SEBAGAI METODE INTERAKTIF PENDIDIKAN KESEHATAN GIGI DAN MULUT SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR

Early dental caries prevention in this case self-care oral cultivation needs to be done primarily in primary school-aged children. Indonesians are people who have not considered oral health since their early years. Dental and oral health education programs with aspects that only emphasize the realm of knowledge is not significant enough to change the paradigm in society and reduce the number of caries. Elementary dental school (EDS) using appreciative inquiry approach develops positive change concept which is a new discourse in the world of health promotion.With the appreciative inquiry approach, the positive core that will be used as a medium of transformation builds awareness and forms a healthy paradigm in children. The program seeks to raise awareness of maintaining oral hygiene through the stages of providing dance knowledge through animation and games by integrating school and home environments through the participation of teachers and parents.The results of the implementation of EDS program showed significant changes of knowledge in children especially seen from the increase of post test value compared to the pre test value which experienced an increase of 35.3%.

Results of a two year dental health education program to reduce dental caries in young Aboriginal children in New South Wales, Australia.

To assess the effectiveness of a dental health education program, 'Smiles not Tears' in preventing Early Childhood Caries in young Aboriginal children. Community trial. Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in rural, remote and metropolitan areas in New South Wales, Australia. Aboriginal families who had a child six months of age. Aboriginal Health Workers from eight Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in rural, remote and metropolitan areas in New South Wales recruited Aboriginal families with young children to participate in the Smiles not Tears dental education program. A convenience sample of Aboriginal children from the same communities was recruited to form a historical control group. The caries prevalence at 30 months of age compared to children of a similar age in the control group. More children in the test group were caries free (n =104; 97.2%) when compared to the historical control group (n = 54; 65.9%). Only three children in the test group had caries which is less than the control group (n = 29). These results suggest that the Smiles not Tears dental education program has a positive impact on reducing the caries prevalence in young Aboriginal children.

A Study Concerning Tooth Decay Incidence in Children with Ages Between 3 and 6 Years

Abstract Deciduous teeth cavities represent a frequent type of illness, which constitutes one of the most important dental health problems in pre-school children, caused by the direct implications and the possible consequences that it may have on permanent teeth. Even if a decrease in the incidence of dental cavities is registered in the industrialized countries of the world, when it comes to deciduous teeth, the frequency of the cavities is still high, at least for some certain social groups of the population. The purpose of the study is to collect current data on dental morbidity in the preschool population. There is not as much data concerning dental health in pre-school children as there is about school children, the reason being that preschoolar children are more difficult to consult. Material and Method: The study was conducted in a pediatric-clinic in Bucharest for a period of 5 years (ian. 01, 2013-dec. 31, 2018). The children included in the study are children who have had tooth decay. The number of children who participated in the study is 276. Results and Discussions: Of the 276 children studied, the highest incidence of tooth decay was for the age group between 3-4 years. This may signify, on one hand, a relatively high number of cavities at a young age, and on the other hand, the level of parental interest in dental care. Conclusions: The main conclusion of our study highlights the need to establish dental health education programs in both national and community level, where kindergartens and schools, have a great potential for influencing dental health care habits in children.
