Level of Knowledge About Dental Health With Dental Caries

Dental and oral disease problems, especially dental caries, are common problems in Indonesia. Dental caries is a disease characterized by damage to hard tooth tissue on the surface of the teeth and spreads to deeper parts of the teeth. Including adolescents as a group that is vulnerable to dental and oral problems. The results of initial data collection showed a high percentage of dental caries (91%) in students of SMP Brawijaya Sakta 1 Surabaya. Limited knowledge about dental health can increase the risk of dental caries. To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about dental health and dental caries in students of SMP I Brawijaya Sakta 1 Surabaya. For this study, the type of research used was analytical using the cross-sectional method. The number of research respondents was 39 students of SMP Brawijaya Sakta 1 Surabaya. The data collection instruments used were questionnaires to measure dental health knowledge and examination sheets to identify dental caries. The data analysis technique used the Chi Square Test. The test results from this study obtained an asymp.sig value (2-tailed) or a ρ value of 0.000 <α value (0.05). There is a significant relationship between the level of dental health knowledge and dental caries in students of Brawijaya Sakta 1 Middle School, Surabaya.

Relationship between Toothbrushing Skills and Dental Caries in Class III – V Students of SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo in 2024

Dental caries is still often experienced by many people, including children. Elementary school age children aged 6-12 years are classified as vulnerable to dental caries. The problem of this research is the high rate of dental caries in students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo, where almost all students have dental caries. The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between tooth brushing skills and dental caries in students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo. This type of research is analytical research with a cross sectional method, with a sample of 32 students in class III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo. The data collection instruments used were observation sheets and stopwatches to measure students toothbrushing skills as well as examination sheets to identify dental caries. The analysis technique uses the chi-square test. The results of research on the toothbrushing skills of students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo were included in the low-skill category at 68.8%. Dental caries for students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo was in the high category at 43.8%. There is a significant relationship between tooth brushing skills and dental caries in students in grades III to V at SDN 3 Ngasinan Ponorogo. Conclusion : The level of tooth brushing skills, both in terms of how to brush teeth and the duration of time for brushing teeth, will influence the level of dental caries in students.

The Effect of Dental Health Education through Leaflet Media on Student's Knowledge

Introduction: The children aged 6-14 years are an age group that is critical for the occurrence of dental caries and has special characteristics, namely the period of replacement of deciduous teeth with permanent teeth. This group has a fairly high prevalence rate of dental caries, reaching 60-80%. In general development, dental caries looks very active at ages 4-8 years and ages 11-19 years. Based on the initial inspection at Hang Tuah 6 Elementary School Surabaya, there were 43 students with DMF-T index amount 4.5 in the high category. And the remaining data was obtained from 37 students, only 2 students were caries free. And it can be seen that the DMF-T index of 8.1 is a problem in this research, namely the high percentage of dental caries in students in 5th and 6th grade at Hang Tuah 6 Elementary School Surabaya in 2023. Purpose: This study purposes to analyze the relationship between knowledge on dental health education using leaflet media. Materials and Methods: The sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The criteria for this research sample were students in 5th and 6th grade at Hang Tuah 6 Elementary School Surabaya. Data analysis using a simple linear regression statistical test with the aim of comparing the average results of the pre-test with the post-test in the intervention group, the decision to test the research hypothesis is based on the significant level < 0,05. Results: The characteristic of the respondents who were research subjects included age, gender, and number of students in each class. there is a variable influence of providing education through leaflet media on student's knowledge of dental and oral health Hang Tuah 6 Elementary School Surabaya. The table also explains the magnitude of the correlation/relationship value (R), which is 0.208. From this output, a coefficient of determination (R square) of 0.043 is obtained, which means that the independent variable to the dependent variable is 4,3%. Conclusions: The effect of dental health education using leaflet media on dental and oral health knowledge among students at Hang Tuah 6 Elementary School, Surabaya in 2023, this is based on a ρ value of 0.000<0.05, where H0 rejected and Ha accepted.

Unraveling the Enigma of Dental Caries through Conventional Analysis using Finger Print Forensics among the Students of Nadiad City, Gujarat

Introduction: There is growing interest in identifying genetic predispositions to dental caries using non-invasive tools. Dermatoglyphics, examining dermal ridge patterns on the hands and feet, is linked to genetic foundations. Galton’s theory asserts fingerprint constancy. In dentistry, dermatoglyphics gains attention for its correlation with students pathologies. This study evaluates the association of dental caries in students with dermatoglyphics. Materials and Methods: The research at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Dharmsinh Desai University, involved 50 subjects (28 females and 22 males) with normal fingerprints. Ethical clearance was obtained from the institute’s Ethics Committee. Fingerprints were recorded using the conventional method, employing ink, paper, roller, glass slab and sponging pad. The prints were examined, classified and analysed through the Cummins method, categorising them into whorls, loops and arches. The dental caries were assessed through the decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) scores of the participants. The DMFT score was tested for association and difference according to the type of fingerprint pattern. Results: Females commonly exhibit loop patterns, while males show an equal distribution between loops and whorls. The connection between fingerprint patterns and DMFT scores is notable. A Chi-square test for left-side patterns (Chi-square = 27.74, P = 0.002) reveals a strong association, linking specific patterns to distinct DMFT scores. Similarly, for right-side patterns (Chi-square = 11.349, P = 0.045), there is significance, emphasising the relationship between fingerprint types and dental caries. Conclusion: The study examined the connection between fingerprint patterns and dental caries in children, discovering a positive correlation. Specific patterns such as arch, loop and whorl were linked to caries presence or absence, suggesting their potential as an early detection tool, although accuracy might vary based on genetic factors.

Modification Of Ropita (Round Spin Table) Education Model As An Effort To Improve Behavior In Maintaining Dental Health In Students At Sdn Sendangmulyo 01, Semarang

Background: Dental caries is a multifactorial disease that demineralises dental hard tissues. One of the factors that cause caries is dental hygiene behaviour. The proportion of dental caries in students at SDN 01 Sendangmulyo, Semarang was 80% and the average debris index score was 2,2 with a poor category. Efforts to overcome this problem through modification of the ROPITA (Round Spin Table) education model provide education through game methods so that the learning process is fun and interesting. Objective: To produce a modification of the ROPITA (Round Spin Table) educational model that is feasible and effective in its application as an effort to improve behaviour in maintaining dental health in students at SDN Sendangmulyo 01, Semarang. Methods: Research and Development with true experiment research design (pretest-postest with control group design). The sample totalled 60 respondents including 30 intervention group respondents and 30 control group respondents. Model test data using paired t-test and independent t-test. Results: Expert validation test of the modified ROPITA (Round Spin Table) educational model obtained interclass correllation coefficient with a p-value of 0,001. The results of the independent t-test data effectiveness test of knowledge, attitudes, actions and debris index score obtained a p-value of 0,000 <0,05. Conclusion: Modification of the ROPITA (Round Spin Table) educational model is feasible and its application is effective as an effort to improve behaviour in maintaining dental health in students at SDN 01 Sendangmulyo, Semarang compared to the control group

DEGREE OF ACIDITY (pH) OF SALIVA WITH DENTAL CARIES AT SDN KAYEE LEUE, ACEH BESAR DISTRICT

Dental caries can be caused by various factors, one of which is the presence of saliva or saliva that always wets the teeth so that it can affect the oral environment. This study aims to determine the relationship between salivary pH and dental caries in students at SDN Kayee Leue, Want Jaya District, Aceh Besar District. The research method is analytic with a cross-sectional or cross-sectional design, which is to determine the relationship (pH) of saliva with dental caries. This research was conducted at SDN Kayee Leue Aceh Besar on April 13 to May 20, 2022 with a population of 70 students in grades IVa and IVb and the sample used was total sampling. Based on the results of the study, 70 students who had acidic salivary pH with dental caries were 36 students (51.4%), students who had a neutral salivary pH with dental caries were 32 students (45.7%) and students with alkaline salivary pH with dental caries as many as 2 students (2.9%). The conclusion of the statistical test results with a value of p = 0.000 < 0.05, namely there is a significant relationship between (pH) saliva and dental caries in students of SDN Kayee Leue, Sub-District of Want Jaya Aceh Besar, it is recommended to students to increase awareness in maintenance and diligent brushing teeth twice a day, in the morning after eating and at night before going to bed.

RELATIONSHIP OF SNACKING PATTERNS WITH DENTAL CARIES IN SDN 1 JEUMPET STUDENTS, ACEH BESAR REGENCY IN 2022

Dental caries is a major dental and oral health problem in the world. Dental caries is a disease of dental hard tissue that is closely related to the consumption of cariogenic foods or drinks. Cariogenic foods are sweet foods that can cause dental caries. The large number of street food vendors will encourage students to have a habit of consuming street food, especially during class breaks. Based on the results of the initial data on dental caries examination conducted at SDN 1 Jeumpet, from 15 students, the average dental caries was 3.8 in the moderate category. This study aims to determine the relationship between snacking patterns and dental caries in students of SDN 1 Jeumpet, Aceh Besar District. Using the chi-square test with a value of <0.05. The research was carried out at SDN 1 Jeumpet, Aceh Besar District and was carried out on 19-21 January 2022. The population in this study amounted to 102 students. The sample of this research is all students of SDN 1 jeumpet taken using Random Sampling technique that is as many as 50 students. The results showed that the value obtained was p = 0.034. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the pattern of snacking was not good with dental caries status in the high category of 13 students (50%). Meanwhile, a good snack pattern with dental caries status was found in the moderate category, namely 13 respondents (54.2) with a p value of 0.034 (p<0.05). The results of the chi-square statistical test show that there is a relationship between snacking patterns and dental caries in SDN 1 Jeumpet students, Aceh Besar district in 2022. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between snacking patterns and dental caries. Suggestion: It is expected that students will reduce the pattern of snacking on sweet and sticky foods and it is recommended to increase the consumption of fibrous snacks as daily food and maintain dental and oral hygiene.

TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN KESEHATAN GIGI TERHADAP KEJADIAN KARIES GIGI PADA MAHASISWA FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN UNIVERSITAS KRISTEN INDONESIA ANGKATAN

Dental caries is the most common infectious disease in the oral cavity and is still a dental health problem in Indonesia. Lack of knowledge about dental and oral health can increase the risk of dental caries. This study aims to analyze the level of dental health knowledge on the incidence of dental caries in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Christian University of Indonesia Class of 2019. This study is a cross-sectional design study conducted from January to December 2021 with a total of 138 respondents. Knowledge of oral health and the incidence of dental caries was assessed using a questionnaire. The results of the study: there is a distribution of students who have a good level of knowledge of dental and oral health as many as 115 people (83.3%) and students who experience dental caries events are 99 people (71.7%). Bivariate analysis of Spearman correlation test and obtained p value = 0.462 > alpha value (0.05). The conclusion is that there is no relationship between knowledge of dental health and the incidence of dental caries in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Indonesian Christian University Class of 2019. Better knowledge about dental and oral health can change a better attitude in preventing dental caries. Many factors can cause dental caries that is a lifestyle of consuming sweet foods, the habit of brushing teeth after eating and before going to bed and the tooth structure is different for each person.

Pola Konsumsi makanan Kariogenik Sebagai Faktor penyebab Karies Gigi pada Anak SD Negeri 5 Waai Kabupaten Maluku Tengah

Dental caries in school children can cause children to experience loss of chewing power and digestion disruption, which results in disruption of children's health. This condition will certainly reduce the frequency of children's attendance to school, disrupt the concentration of learning, affect the child's appetite. One of the causes of dental caries in school children is the pattern of consumption of cariogenic foods because at this age children usually like snacks and drinks as they wish. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the type and frequency of consuming cariogenic food with the incidence of dental caries in SD Negeri 5 Waai District, Central Maluku. Method This study uses a descriptive study using a cross sectional design. Sampling with a purposive sampling method. Data were analyzed using the chi square test. The results showed there was a relationship between the type and frequency of consuming cariogenic food with the incidence of dental caries in students of SD Negeri 5 Waai, Central Maluku, with avalue of ρ = 0.027 and p = 0.028 <α 0.05. The conclusion that the type and frequency of consuming cariogenic food is related to the incidence of dental caries in students of SD Negeri 5 Waai, Central Maluku Regency. It is recommended to the school to be able to seek a healthy canteen at school and counseling oral health. Also for parents to pay attention to the habit of consuming cariogenic food by elementary school children while at school or at home.Keywords: Consumption pattern; cariogenic food; dental caries

Prevalence of dental caries in students with different levels of anxiety

Dental incidence of caries has a significant impact on human health and currently affects the bulk of the world's population, despite numerous attempts to reduce it. One of the groups at risk of developing this disease is young people (students) who experience anxiety throughout the entire learning process.

ORAL CANDIDA CARRIAGE INCLUDING SPECIATION, BIOFILM PRODUCTION AND CORRELATION WITH OCCURRENCE OF DENTAL CARIES IN STUDENT POPULATION

The study was done to establish oral carriage of Candida, speciation, assay biofilm production and correlate the oral Candida carriage with occurrence of dental caries in students. Swab samples from oral cavity were collected from 206 students and were cultured for yeasts. Isolated yeasts were identified and detected for Biofilm production. Results: Overall Candida carriage was found in 90 of the 206 students (75 with caries). The rate of Candida carriage in students with caries (64%) was significantly higher as compared to overall carriage in students (43.7%). A total of 123 Candida strains were isolated including C albicans (63%), C tropicalis (23 %), C. parapsilosis (6 %), C. glabrata (4 %) and C. krusei (4 %). Biofilm production by C albicans was less frequent (42. 85%) than that by non-C albicans (63.33 %). and was significantly higher in students with caries than from without caries. Conclusion: We found a significant risk of dental caries with oral Candida carriage rates in student population. Candida albicans was the most common species isolated. Biofilm production was implicated in Candida virulence and was more important for non- C.albicans than C.albicans strains to establish infections.

Peranan Jajanan Sekolah dan Orang Tua terhadap Karies Gigi Siswa SD di Banda Aceh

Elementary school students (elementary school) is a group prone to dental caries occurrence. Some of the main causes are the kind of food consumed and the role of parents towards the child's behavior in maintaining oral health. As for the purpose of doing research is to know the types of food consumed and the role of parents against oral health students. This study uses cross-sectional on the latitude of the month of February 2016 with the subject of research on the students of the country 48 Deah Glumpang, Banda Aceh. The results showed more than half of the students (60%) have problems with dental caries. These types of food consumed by students are mostly amateurish (68.6%). So it is with the role of parents against her son's mouth and dental health is most unfavorable (65.7%). Statistically, the incidence of dental caries in students have relationships with different types of food (p = 0.001) and the role of parents (p = 0.005). Therefore, the type of food and the role of parents of students still need to be advised to maintain oral health students.

Dental caries and visual acuity of students in a town in west amazon

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the epidemiological profile for dental caries in primary school students in the public education system in Barcelos, as well as to verify its association with the visual acuity assessed. Methods: This is an observational and cross-sectional study of 1,102 students aged 6 to 17 registered in primary school in the public education system. The evaluation of dental caries complies with the method informed by the World Health Organization, on the school patio in natural light and were carried out by a previously calibrated team (Kappa inter-rater from 0.70 to 0.89). Visual acuity was assessed using the Snellen optometric scale. For the analysis, when the normality hypothesis was accepted by means of the Shapiro-Wilk test, average and standard deviation (SD) were calculated and the parametric tests t-student and Analysis of Variance – ANOVA – were applied. When the normality hypothesis was rejected Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Waliis non-parametric tests were applied. For the analysis of categorical variables, the Pearson chi-square test was applied. Results: 1,102 students took part in the tests, of whom 556 (50.5%) were male. The prevalence of dental caries found was 72.1% in students aged 6 to 11 and 65.7% in students aged 12 to 17. The study found an association between Visual Acuity (<0.8) and dental caries in students aged 6 to 11 (p=0.023), and between females and dental caries in students aged 12 to 17 (p=0.025). Conclusion: This study suggests the need for wider oral health coverage in the town of Barcelos in order to provide better access to children and adolescents to restoration treatments so as to prevent the worsening of oral health conditions. Health promotion actions for awareness and the prevention of dental caries must be created taking into account the risk factors found in Barcelos.

Dental caries, frequency of refined sugar consumption and body mass index among freshmen undergraduate students in Nigeria

Objective: The main objective of this study was to determine association between dental caries and body mass index (BMI), and dental caries and frequency of sugar consumption freshmen undergraduate student in Nigeria.
 Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving 1,164 students between 15 to 23 years of age. The independent variables for this study included age, sex, socioeconomic status, BMI, frequency of consuming refined sugars between meals and action taken after consumption of refined sugars. Descriptive analysis was used for all the quantitative variables while inferential analysis using logistic regression was used to determine predictors of dental caries.
 Results: A total of 1,164 students participated in the study, comprising 61.9% females and 38.1% males. The mean age of the participants was 18.13 (±4.99) and mean BMI was 21.68 (±7.93). The prevalence of dental caries was 10.6% and the mean Decay Missing and Filled Teeth (DMFT) was 0.32 (±1.05). Age and socioeconomic status were the significant predictors of dental caries (p=0.02; p=0.04 respectively). However, there was increase odds of having dental caries in students with normal BMI ((AOR: 1.19; P=0.62), students that consumed refined sugar 3-4 between meals (AOR: 1.27; P=0.28) and students that did nothing after consumption of refined sugar (AOR: 1.43; P=0.51).
 Conclusion: The prevalence of dental caries in this study population was low, older students from middle socioeconomic status had significant caries prevalence and there were increase odds of dental caries in students with normal BMI, and in those that consumed refined sugars 3-4 times between meals.

TITLE The causative factors of dental caries in students of SD Sambiroto 02 Semarang ABSTRACT Tooth is part of the masticatory apparatus of the digestive system in the human body. Based on the preliminary study found 45% of students of Sambiroto 02 Elementary School have fixed dental caries, 15% had dental caries milk and 40% have bad oral hygiene. The main problem of oral health in students of Sambiroto 02 Elementary School is dental caries. Dental caries is an infectious disease caused by demineralization of enamel and dentine that is closely related to the consumption of cariogenic foods. Generally, children entering school age have a high risk of caries. This study aims to determine the factors that cause dental caries in students at Sambiroto 02 Elementary School Semarang. This type of research is quantitative descriptive case study method. Data retrieval is done by checking caries (DMF-T) OHIS, Plaque Index, pH Saliva, Viscosity Saliva, Saliva Hydration, as well as the questionnaire for behavioral variables (knowledge, attitudes, practices). Priority problems using odd ratio test showed that the factors causing the most dominant is the practice (p value = 65.0), OHIS (p value = 20.43), and plaque index (p value = 17.0). The results showed that the factor of the practice 50% of respondents with bad category, 62% of respondents with OHIS bad category, and 62% of respondents who had a plaque with bad category. The problem solving are a revitalization program UKGS, cariogenic diet control, brushing teeth together, topical application fluoride / CPP-ACP, dental health education, training of cadres, and filling cavities. Advices to students are expected to increase knowledge as a basis for understanding the attitude and behavior are good on prevent dental care that are not easily affected by caries, and suggestions presented to the teachers to always give motivation to students to always maintain dental health. TITLEAnalysis of factors influencing dental nurse performances in UKGS program among Puskesmas in public health department of Bandung DistrictABSTRACTIn Bandung District data showed that many students suffer from bleeding gums, dental caries in students tend to rise nearly 90% in elementary school students, the average incidence of dental caries occur in the age group 6-12 years with DMF-T = 2,7. Where as the target of Healthy Indonesia 2010 on caries incidence is not more than two. Not optimal oral health care in children aged 6-12 years (primary school age), showed that the performance of dental nurses in UKGS care services was not optimal.This study was an explanatory research with cross sectional approach. Data were collected by interview and observation. The number of samples is 50 dental nurses.The results showed that the performance of dental nurses in the implementation of the District Health Office UKGS in Bandung is only about 58.0% and that have a good performance is only 42.0%. Variables that are directly related to the performance of dental nurses in the implementation of UKGS are training, knowledge and motivation The variables most affect the dental nurse performance of the implementation UKGS was training (RP 20.931) means that dental nurse with a good level of 21 times likely to have a better performance compared to the dental nurse with less knowledge, and the most influential factor was training. Means that dental nurses who have high training will have 21 times better performance compared with dental nurses with low training in the implementation of UKGS. Conducted laboratory and clinical evaluation of the efficacy of stabilized dentifrice compared to without dentifrice, for the prevention of dental caries in students. Indexes stability of in dentifrice containing , concentration and prolonged action ionized in saliva for the prevention of dental caries. Methods: Clinical and laboratory testing of dentifrice in vivo and in vitro research. Results: In clinical and laboratory testing of caries preventive efficacy of the dentifrice «Blend-a-med Pro-expert» had high saturation of saliva but «Blend-a-med with active fluoride» has more prolonged action release active ions to the saliva. Conclusions: Toothpaste «Blend-a-med Pro-expert» and «Blend-a-med with active fluoride provide a high level of saturation of oral liquid fluorine active and therefore able to provide caries preventive pronounced effect due to the formation of the surface layers of enamel large number fluorapatit compounds are more resistant to acid dissolution

Academic stress as a risk factor for dental caries

To evaluate the associations between dental caries classified according to the index for decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) and stimulated salivary flow, salivary capacity for oxidation reduction and academic stress in undergraduate dental surgery students aged 18-22 years. This research was performed at three time-points: March 2010, September 2010 and March 2011. The sample was composed of 73 students, including 15 male and 58 female subjects. Data were obtained using the DMFT index to detect incident dental caries, the RD test Showa for salivary capacity for oxidation reduction, the Sisco academic stress inventory, and sterile polyethylene to stimulate salivary flow. Logistic regression analysis showed that: subjects with stimulated salivary flow of <1 ml/min are at increased risk for developing caries compared with those with stimulated salivary flow of ≥1 ml/min; those with moderate or high levels of academic stress are at greater risk for developing carious lesions than those with low academic stress; women are at greater risk for developing carious lesions than men, and, of the subjects studied, younger students were more likely to develop caries. Moderate to high levels of academic stress, younger age and lower salivary flow rate represent risk factors for the development of dental caries in students.
