Orthodontic treatment in adults: Challenges, outcomes, and factors affecting compliance and satisfaction

BACKGROUND: The demand for orthodontic treatment among adults has witnessed a substantial rise in recent years. This study aims to explore the complexities of adult orthodontics, focusing on challenges faced, treatment outcomes, and the influence of factors such as age, gender, and education on patient compliance and satisfaction. METHODS: A multi-dimensional approach was employed, combining a review of clinical records with structured patient surveys. Descriptive statistics summarized demographic characteristics, treatment duration, and orthodontic problems addressed. Inferential statistics included Pearson correlation, Chi-squared tests, and analysis of variance to examine age compliance, gendersatisfaction, and education-orthodontic problem relationships. Qualitative analysis enriched findings, and statistical software facilitated data processing. RESULTS: The analysis revealed a statistically significant negative correlation between age and compliance (r = -0.28, P < 0.05), indicating that younger participants demonstrated higher compliance rates. Gender emerged as a significant factor influencing patient satisfaction (P = 0.024), with females reporting notably higher levels of satisfaction than males. Furthermore, participants with advanced education levels (Master’s/Ph.D.) were significantly more likely to have orthodontic issues related to malocclusion (P = 0.041). CONCLUSION: The study provides an insight into the multi-dimensional aspects of adult orthodontics, recognizing the challenges, compliance, and satisfaction levels. Tailored approaches considering age, gender, and education are essential. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of orthodontic treatment in adults and its potential implications for enhanced patient care.

Survey on maloccluslon in Iraqi dental student sample

The aim of this survey is to investigate the prevalence of malocclusion anddifferent morphological features of dental occlusion in an Iraqi sample. The sampleconsisted of (218) dental student at college of Dentistry, Baghdad university, aged (18-21year) & of both sexes. Were clinically evaluated after exclusion of students who havereceived any type of orthodontic treatment. The students also divided into two groups, thegroup who have received extraction of any tooth and the other group who have noextraction. Ag,Of the sample (26.14%) had normal occlusion, (6o)05%) had CL.l malocclusionhad CL.II malocelusion and (0.45%) who had CLIII malocclusion. The )%3,77(differences in prevalence of maloeclusion was statistically significant between thesegroups. On the other hand. This statistical difference was significant in eases withextraction than those cases without extraction (P< 0.05). clearly, there is a need forfurther epidemiologeal research aiming to increase the knowledge a bout the prevalenceand type of malocclusion as well as the extent of need & demand for orthodontic treatment.
  

Orthodontic treatment demand for fixed treatment and aligners among young adults in middle Europe and South America – a questionnaire study

BackgroundPatients experiencing any malocclusion, may desire for treatment. However, there is no scientific information orthodontic treatment demand and the knowledge of young adults about orthodontic treatment. The aim of the study was to assess orthodontic treatment demand in young adults from Poland and Chile, their previous orthodontic experience and their knowledge on fixed and aligner orthodontic treatment.MethodsThe target group comprised people aged 18–30. The sample size was estimated as above 400 for each country. The survey was carried out in Polish and Spanish within 3 months and consisted of 25 questions delivered via social media. Comparisons were made between countries, age subgroups and gender.ResultsThe response rate was 1,99%, what stands for 1092 responses, 670 from Chile and 422 from Poland, respectively. The percentage of young adults who were already treated was 42,9% in Poland and 25,0% in Chile. The ones planning to have orthodontic treatment within a year counted for 11,8% in Poland and 5,3% in Chile. Most young adults who want to be treated (20,6%) rely on doctor’s recommendation on type of appliance while 14,7% of all respondents are interested solely in aligners. Most respondents have heard about aligners (58%). Direct provider-to-customer service without a doctor is not acceptable, neither in Poland (85,1%) nor in Chile (64,8%). Most young adults provided incorrect answers referring various aspects of aligner treatment.ConclusionsIn both countries, patients demand to be treated and monitored by the orthodontist. A high percentage of patients want to be treated exclusively with aligners. Direct-to-consumer orthodontics does not seem attractive to patients. Young adults do not have adequate knowledge referring to aligner treatment. Many people want to be treated despite a previous orthodontic treatment.

Bruxism: An orthodontist's perspective

The aim of the present manuscript is to give a narrative overview for clinicians summarizing the knowledge concerning a phenomenon that they may frequently come across in both children and adults: sleep (SB) and awake (AB) bruxism. Indeed, prevalence rates in adults range from 8 % to 16 % for SB and 22 % to 30 % for AB, whilst in children they raise up to 40 %.The complex relationship between bruxism, the most common underlying primary and/or comorbid conditions, and the potential clinical consequences for both AB and SB in children and adults will be considered.In addition, in view of the fact that over the last few decades the demand for orthodontic treatment at all ages has increased, the correlation between bruxism-related masseter muscle activity (MMA) and the use of orthodontic appliances (i.e., fixed appliances and clear aligners) is also discussed, along with the proposal of some clinical recommendations.

A skillful combination of invisalign aligners followed with veneers: A case report

Dental aesthetics have become highly important nowadays. Treating aesthetic needs with non-invasive and with minimal techniques can preserve tissues. Invisalign aligners are an aesthetic and comfortable option too for orthodontic treatment. The increased demand for orthodontic treatment in adults has increased and widened the upper age limit for orthodontic intervention. The antero-posterior skeletal relationship of the maxilla and mandible is determined by the ANB angle. Veneers can be one of the techniques which show excellent aesthetic results and longevity of the treatment. This report highlights the relevant aspects of Invisalign aligners and veneers in a 54-year-old female with the minimal invasive method where the aesthetics of patient was highly improved.

Increased demand for orthodontic treatments during the COVID-19 pandemic: a commentary.

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic upon healthcare sectors generally, and what this continues to mean in particular for the practice of dentistry, there is evidence of an unanticipated upsurge in the demand for orthodontic treatment. This was observed in the UK and internationally as a manifestation of the so-called 'Zoom boom', in which video conferencing from home on various platforms suddenly exponentiated. As a result, it seems people became more self-conscious when viewing their appearance on-screen. Among the precipitating factors for individuals taking the consequent step of seeking orthodontic treatment are: the unavailability of more invasive smile enhancement treatments due to the pandemic restrictions; a more favourable infection control probability in orthodontic therapy; and the extra disposable funds that would otherwise be spent on holidays and leisure activities. This article explores different possible social and commercial drivers behind this phenomenon and suggests that the circumstances of the pandemic have shifted the pursuit of the desirable smile somewhat towards orthodontics, and as a consequence, is beneficial both to the public and the profession of dentistry as a whole.

Associations between body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) with the dental health component of the index of orthodontic treatment need (IOTN-DHC) and other BDD risk factors in orthodontic patients: A preliminary study.

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder that may be negatively associated with the self-image. It might be associated with orthodontic treatment demand and outcome, and therefore is important. Thus, this study was conducted. The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale modified for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD-YBOCS) questionnaire was used in 699 orthodontic patients above 12 years of age (222 males, 477 females), at seven clinics in two cities (2020-2021). BDD diagnosis and severity were calculated based on the first 3 items and all 12 items of the questionnaire. The dental health component of the index of orthodontic treatment need (IOTN-DHC) was assessed by orthodontists. Multivariable and bivariable statistical analyses were performed on ordinal and dichotomized BDD diagnoses to assess potentially associated factors (IOTN-DHC, age, sex, marital status, education level, and previous orthodontic consultation) (α = 0.05). IOTN-DHC scores 1-5 were seen in 13.0%, 39.9%, 29.8%, 12.4%, and 4.9% of patients. Age/sex/marital status/education were not associated with IOTN-DHC (p > 0.05). Based on 3-item questionnaire, 17.02% of patients had BDD (14.02% mild). Based on 12-item questionnaire, 2.86% had BDD. BDD was more prevalent or severer in females, married patients, patients with a previous history of orthodontic consultation, and patients with milder IOTN-DHCs (p < 0.05). IOTN-DHC was negatively/slightly associated with BDD in orthodontic patients. Being female and married may increase BDD risk.

Satisfaction with smile appearance mediates oral health-related quality of life in adolescents regardless of orthodontic treatment need – a cross-sectional study

Objectives To explore the relationship between adolescents’ oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), satisfaction with smile appearance, treatment need and treatment demand through direct and serial mediation models. Materials and methods This cross-sectional study included 215 11–14-year-olds and their parents. The instruments included the Child Perceptions Questionnaire and the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need. Satisfaction with smile appearance, orthodontic treatment demand and parental perception of their child’s orthodontic treatment need was recorded on a Likert scale (0 = not at all to 4 = very much). Serial mediation models were used to assess the effects of malocclusion on the OHRQoL. Results Objective treatment need explained less than 5% of the adolescents’ OHRQoL. Serial mediation models through satisfaction with smile appearance, parental perception of their child’s orthodontic treatment need, and patients’ orthodontic treatment demand explained 23–25% of the variance. Conclusions Satisfaction with smile appearance mediates the OHRQoL in adolescents. Parents have no direct influence, but their perception of the need to correct their child’s teeth might amplify adolescents’ orthodontic treatment demand, leading to lower OHRQoL.

Socioeconomic burden of orthodontic treatment: a systematic review.

The relationship between Socio-Economic Status (SES) and the factors that may play a role in orthodontic treatment demand and uptake have not been explored. Such information is needed for better planning of orthodontic services and to ensure that health care is provided equally among all social classes. The objective of this systematic review was to find out whether socioeconomic status affects the treatment needs of orthodontic patients. Literature search was done using Medical Subject Heading terms (MeSH) in PubMed, LIVIVO, Google Scholar, and EbscoHost from 1 January 1965 to 1 August 2021. All cross-sectional studies were included. Both male and female participants were included in the review. The quality of assessment for the included studies was evaluated independently by two reviewers using "The Jonna Briggs Institute" tool (JBI) for cross-section studies. The Cochrane Collaboration's tool was modified and used for assessing the risk of bias and risk of summary. A total of 704 articles were found. The relevant database searches were PubMed 259 articles, followed by EbscoHost 280, LIVIVO 145, and Google Scholar 20 articles. A final of 10 cross-sectional studies were included in the review. The reviewers found evidence that parents ultimately decide whether the child will undergo treatment, possibly depending on their financial situation.

Impact of severity of malocclusion and self-perceived smile and dental aesthetics on self-esteem among adolescents

The psychological impact of malocclusion, social acceptance, self-esteem, and the development of personality traits are considerations that can affect the demand for orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of malocclusion severity and self-perceived smile and dental aesthetics on self-esteem among adolescents in Lagos, Nigeria. This analytical cross-sectional study was performed among 393 adolescents (210 females and 183 males) at a university teaching hospital in Nigeria. The need for orthodontic treatment was assessed using the Dental Aesthetic Index, whereas self-esteem was measured using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Smile analysis was performed on photographs of posed smiles, whereas photographs of posed smiles and intraoral frontal view with teeth in centric occlusion were rated with the Visual Analog Scale for self-perception of smile and dental aesthetics. A comparison of variables among self-esteem groups was made using the ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests, whereas an association among all variables was examined using the correlation coefficient. Stepwise regression analysis examined the effects of independent variables on self-esteem. A significant correlation was found between self-esteem and self-perceived smile (r=0.294; P < 0.001) and dental aesthetics (r=0.212; P < 0.001). Adolescents with high self-perceived smile (mean ± standard deviation, 7.66 ± 2.20) and dental aesthetics (6.68 ± 2.58) had higher self-esteem than participants with low self-perceived smile (4.75 ± 2.73) and dental aesthetics (4.36 ± 2.29). Self-perceived smile aesthetics had the most predictive impact on self-esteem. The results showed that self-perception of smile and dental aesthetics is a significant factor that influences self-esteem among adolescents.

Reducing Friction in Orthodontic Brackets: A Matter of Material or Type of Ligation Selection? In-Vitro Comparative Study.

(1) Background: Orthodontic appliances have changed and improved with the increasing demand for orthodontic treatment of the general population. Patients desire for shorter orthodontic treatments and for the wearing of more aesthetic devices has led to the technological development of orthodontic brackets; these were manufactured from aesthetic materials (ceramics, composite polymers) and presented different designs regarding the way archwires are ligated to the bracket. The aim of this study was to determine whether there were any differences between the static frictional forces generated by stainless steel (metallic) and polycrystalline alumina (ceramics) conventional and self-ligating brackets. (2) Methods: Static friction assessment was carried out in vitro with a universal testing machine, HV-500N-S (Schmidt Control Instruments, Hans Schmidt & Co. GmbH), intended for measuring compression and traction forces. (3) Results: The study revealed significant differences in static frictional forces at the bracket-archwire interface between the tested brackets. Stainless steel brackets produced lower static friction forces than polycrystalline alumina and self-ligating brackets generally produced lower static frictional forces than conventional brackets. The reduction of frictional forces was noticeable in the first stages of treatment, when thin, flexible orthodontic archwires (0.016” NiTi) are used. Engaged with large rectangular stainless steel archwires, (0.019 × 0.025” SS), the frictional forces produced by conventional and self-ligating metal brackets were similar, no significant differences being observed between the two types of metallic design. However, in the case of tested ceramic brackets, the results showed that the self-ligating type allows a reduction in frictional forces even in advanced stages of treatment compared to conventionally ligation. (4) Conclusions: From the perspective of an orthodontic system with low frictional forces, metal brackets are preferable to aesthetic ones, and self-ligating ceramic brackets are preferable to conventional ceramic brackets.

What Is the Most Effective Technique for Bonding Brackets on Ceramic-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: There has been an increase in demand for orthodontic treatment within the adult population, who likely receive restorative treatments using ceramic structures. The current state of the art regarding the most effective method to achieve an appropriate bond strength of brackets on ceramic surfaces isn’t consensual. This systematic review aims to compare the available surface treatments to ceramics and determine the one that allows to obtain the best bond strength. Methods: This systematic review followed the PRISMA guidelines and the PICO methodology was used, with the question “What is the most effective technique for bonding brackets on ceramic crowns or veneers?”. The research was carried out in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane Library databases. In vitro and ex vivo studies were included. The methodological quality was evaluated using the guidelines for reporting of preclinical studies on dental materials by Faggion Jr. Results: A total of 655 articles searched in various databases were initially scrutinized. Sevety one articles were chosen for quality analysis. The risk of bias was considered medium to high in most studies. The use of hydrofluoric acid (HF), silane and laser afforded the overall best results. HF and HF plus laser achieved significantly highest bond strength scores in felsdphatic porcelain, while laser was the best treatment in lithium disilicate ceramics. Conclusions: The most effective technique for bonding brackets on ceramic is dependent on the type of ceramic.

The effect of COVID-19 on orthodontic treatment demand and its delivery in India.

The ongoing pandemic has transformed the entire structural and functional framework of the world including the medical and dental healthcare services. The current study intends to examine the pattern of dynamically changing working conditions and orthodontic treatment delivery during the various phases of pandemic. An online survey was conducted using Google form for orthodontic specialists practicing in India. Information regarding the impact of the pandemic on various aspects like patient turnover, treatment demand, clinical management, and new challenges faced were analysed through a self-designed close-ended questionnaire for two phases. Phase I (March 2020 to September 2020) corresponded to the onset of COVID 19 pandemic and lockdown, whereas the Phase II (October 2020 to March 2021) coincided with the time of Unlock and resumption of activities thereafter. The parameters showing similar trend in Phases I and II included the willingness of ongoing orthodontic patients to report for appointments, choice of treatment modality, number and type of emergencies, cost of materials, guidelines for work, and duration of non-delivery of orthodontic procedures. The new patients reporting, complex orthodontic therapy, tele-consultation, and financial wellbeing showed an improvement while the usage of personal protective equipment kit, fear amongst orthodontists reduced in Phase II. Challenging situations warrant prudent measures to combat and continue the essential services, especially those related to the healthcare. A detailed analysis of the various phases of the ongoing pandemic will enable us to devise suitable measures to ensure uninterrupted orthodontic treatment even in such critical times.

Orthodontic treatment demand in young adolescents – Are parents familiar with their children's desires and reasons?

To assess the levels of agreement between parents and adolescents about young adolescents' orthodontic treatment demand and to what extent is treatment demand conditioned by family and psychosocial impacts and oral function. This cross-sectional study included 221 adolescents (11-14years, 54% female) and their parents. A 5-point scale was used to assess orthodontic treatment demand. Adolescents self-administered the Child Perceptions Questionnaire, and parents self-administered the Parental-Caregivers Perceptions Questionnaire and Family Impact Scale. The Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need Dental Health Component (IOTN DHC) was used for determining malocclusion severity. Intraclass correlation coefficient and Cohen's kappa coefficient were used for the assessment of agreement between two informants. The parent-child agreement on children's orthodontic treatment demand was weak, concording in 67.4% of cases. The most common reasons for seeking orthodontic treatment derive from the emotional (EW) and social well-being domains for both informants. In linear regression, the adolescent's reporting of impaired EW and IOTN DHC was the only significant linear predictor of orthodontic treatment demand. Parents cannot correctly assess the orthodontic treatment demand of their children. Impaired EW is the most significant self-reported determinant of adolescents' demand for orthodontic treatment. Family relationships and parental perspective have a low influence.

Using OI and DAI Index to Compare the Need and Demand of Orthodontic Treatment

Objectives: The objective of this research was to compare the orthodontic treatment need and demand using Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) and Occlusal Index (OI) among dentistry students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 113 dental students in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. The demand for orthodontic treatment was assessed using a standardized questionnaire and 10 photographs of aesthetic component (AC) of IOTN for the self-assessment of subjects about their dental attractiveness. Occlusal Index (OI) and Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI), which were calculated by clinical examination and dental model analysis, were used to assess the orthodontic treatment need. Students with a history of orthodontic treatment were excluded. Results: Final analysis was done on 113 cases (48 men and 65 women). The study showed that there was a significant relationship between the demand for orthodontic treatment and the self-assessment of subjects about their dental attractiveness (according to the photograph they had chosen) (P = 0.015). There is also a significant relationship between the self-assessment of subjects about their dental attractiveness (according to the photographs) and the orthodontic treatment need based on DAI (P = 0.008). Furthermore, a significant connection was found between the self-assessment of subjects about their dental attractiveness (according to the photographs) and the orthodontic treatment need based on OI (P &lt; 0.001). Conclusions: The results of our study revealed that both indices show that the need for orthodontic treatment is in line with the demand, which could be used for planning public orthodontic and dental services.

SURVEY ON AWARENESS OF ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT, TYPES, DURATION, PROBLEMS FACED AMONG GENERAL POPULATION

the aim of this study is to access the awareness of general population about orthodontic treatment ,its types ,duration and the problems faced . A descriptive questionnaire survey was conducted among general population who visited outpatient department of Thai moogambigai dental college &amp; hospital. statistical analysis of the data was done using IBM SSPS software version 26 software package. Pearson’s chi square test was done to done assess the standard deviation of different variables .RESULTS ; statistically signicant difference between male and female among the general population was obtained . Females were found to be more aware about the orthodontic treatment,cost of the treatment ,duration of the treatment . CONCLUSION :Awareness of malocclusion and need to take treatment has increasingly become prevalent among the population,the demand for orthodontic treatment become more noticeable in dental practices..

Incidence of Orthodontic Problems in Northern Cypriot Population

Aim: Technologies related to big data are progressively used for various research purposes in the fields of dentistry and health-care informatics. Large amounts of clinical data have been achieved and acquired at an exceptional acceleration and advancement. The actively developing field of big data analysis has started to play a critical and decisive role in the progression of dental practices and research. It has implemented tools to collect, regulate, interpret, and comprehend enormous volumes of distinct, structured, and unstructured data established from the present healthcare systems. Big data analysis has been lately devoted in the direction of encouraging and assisting the process of problem detection and care delivery. Our study aimed at measuring the frequentness of orthodontic problems, incidence of malocclusion and the orthodontic treatment demand among children who attend secondary schools in Northern Cyprus. Methods: For the present survey, our sample included 426 school children (203 females and 223 males) who are 12–15 years of age. Molar relation in each child was assessed according to Angle's classification. To evaluate the need and demand for orthodontic treatment, the ICON index was then used. Occlusal features such as overbite and overjet were measured and the presence of malocclusal characteristics such as cross bite, deep bite or open bite was examined and recorded for each subject. Our findings indicated that among this Northern Cypriot school population: (20.6%) had no occurrence of malocclusion, (74.6%) were found to have a Class I molar relation, (21.1%) had a Class II molar relation (Division 1, 13.6%; Division 2, 1.6%) and (3.3%) had a Class III malocclusion. Moreover, (20.2%) of all the examined children were found in need of orthodontic treatment. Digital modelling derived from CBCT scanning of plaster casts is a reliable method to assure the accuracy of measurements obtained directly from clinical and dental examination. Results: 74.6% of all subjects were found to have class I dental malocclusion; class II division 1 were calculated at 13,6%, class II division 2 were 1,6%, class II subdivision 4,2%, class III were calculated to be at 3,3% and class III subdivision 2,5%. Conclusion: The most common orthodontic malocclusion in Northern Cypriot school children is Class I and the least common one is Class II division 2.

[Objective and subjective assessment of the quality and effectiveness of orthodontic treatment].

Dentofacial anomalies occupy one of the leading places among dental diseases in people of different age groups. Analysis of epidemiological data on the prevalence of dentoalveolar anomalies indicates that there is no tendency to decrease it in Russia and abroad countries. The demand for orthodontic treatment is increasing with the development of new technologies and materials, the development of modern methods of treatment in the field of dentistry. This trend is accompanied by increased requirements for the quality of orthodontic care. The patient's dissatisfaction with the result of treatment most often arises because of a discrepancy between his subjective assessment of treatment and the objective anatomical, functional and aesthetic state of occlusion. The use of methods for quantitative assessment of dentoalveolar anomalies and the quality of orthodontic treatment makes it possible to objectively substantiate the choice of tactics of orthodontic care and increase its effectiveness. At the same time, the patient's subjective assessment of the quality of orthodontic treatment allows one to see how the proposed (implemented) treatment plan reflects the patient's main complaints and to assess the degree of his satisfaction with the achieved result. That`s why, the issue of using methods of objective and subjective assessment of the quality and effectiveness of orthodontic treatment is relevant today. The purpose of the literature review is to consider the development and implementation of criteria for an objective and subjective assessment of the outcome of orthodontic treatment.

Prevalence of spacing and crowding in permanent dentition among patients visiting a private dental hospital

Malocclusion can be defined as an occlusion in which there is a mal relationship between the arches in any of the planes or one in which there are anomalies in tooth position beyond the normal limits. The literal meaning of malocclusion is a bad bite.  People equate good dental appearance with success in many aspects. With the increasing demand for orthodontic treatment, the epidemiological data of malocclusion is essential in assessing the resources for orthodontic services. To assess the prevalence of spacing and crowding in the permanent dentition of patients visiting a private dental hospital. This study was based on data of patients who reported to the Department of Orthodontics, in a private teaching hospital in Chennai, India which was collected by reviewing patients records and analysing the data of 86000 patients. The data consisted of treatment done for spacing and crowding of permanent teeth in both arches in patients of age 12 to 25 years. Prevalence of crowding (64%) was more common than spacing (36%) indicating that crowding is the most common anomaly in both maxilla and mandible. Both maxilla and mandible showed statistical significance for age and gender. This study reveals that crowding is the most common anomaly in both arches.

Part II. What drives Korean adults to seek orthodontic treatment: Factors contributing to orthodontic treatment decisions.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to identify the perceptions of orthodontic treatment among Korean adults and determine the factors that drive them to seek orthodontic treatment.MethodsA total of 2,321 adults aged 19–64 years were surveyed using an internet research system from a specialized research company. The participants were divided into the following groups based on their experience of and willingness to undergo orthodontic treatment experience, acceptance, and non-acceptance groups. The characteristics of the participants were compared using analysis of variance with post-hoc analysis. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was performed in all three models with the non-acceptance group as a reference.ResultsIn terms of demographic characteristics, age, gender, marital status, and education had significant influences on orthodontic treatment decisions in adults in the experience and acceptance groups (p < 0.001). When all the factors were analyzed, age, marital status, past dental treatment experience, regular oral examinations, demand for orthodontic treatment, optimal treatment period, health insurance coverage, information on orthodontic treatments, perceptions regarding orthodontic treatment, and psychosocial impact of dental esthetics significantly influenced orthodontic treatment decisions in adults in the experience and acceptance groups (p < 0.001).ConclusionsThese findings suggest that various factors influence orthodontic treatment decisions in adults. Individuals who seek orthodontic treatment were found to undergo more regular dental treatment and oral examination than those who did not. They also had a better perception of orthodontic treatment and more negative values for the psychosocial impact of dental esthetics.
