In this paper the diff erent defi nitions of confl ict are studied and analyzed to obtain its common features. Th e globalization and the complex societies have diff erent levels of intensity in their confl icts, and the range of situations produced is very wide. Th erefore it is important to fi nd the common elements and confi gure a methodological model help us to obtain an approach to a theory of confl icts. Th e relation between the power of parties and the origins and management of confl icts is proposed as a key, understanding the power as a human potential to make something, to get specifi c objectives and personal interests or to overcome resistances that determine the emergence of a confl ict. Finally, the most usual methods to manage the confl icts are showed, and the diffi culty to design a general Th eory of Confl icts with universal amplitude for management, transformation and resolution of confl icts is analyzed.
