Cybersex Behavior in Indonesian Adolescents: Factors, Impacts, and Strategies for Reproductive Health Preservation in a Digital Age

Cybersex behavior in Indonesia has increased since 2012 in West Sumatra. It was found that the number of teenagers who had watched and read porn sites which are categorized as passive cybersex was 35.98%. This study aimed to determine the factors that influence cybersex behavior in adolescents and suppress the impact on reproductive health. This research was an analytic study with a cross-sectional research design and a total sample of 88 people. The research was conducted from April to July 2023 at Senior High School (SHS) X Pariaman City. Data was collected using a questionnaire which contained questions about the factors that influence cybersex behavior, namely accessibility and access costs. Data analysis used SPSS, namely univariate and bivariate analysis. Less than half (27.3%) of students at SHS X Pariaman City engaged in cybersex behavior in the high-risk category. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there is a relationship between attitude (p-value=0.004), and the role of peers (p-value=0.002). There was a relationship between attitudes and the role of peers in cybersex behavior. For this reason, it is expected that adolescents will choose peers who can have a positive influence and utilize the media to develop their abilities positively. Towards a Conscious Digital Generation: Efforts to Increase Knowledge and Attitudes about Cybersex among Adolescents

The increasing prevalence of cybersex behavior among adolescents presents a growing concern, with potential risks to their physical and mental health. The ease of access and low cost associated with this behavior contribute to its proliferation. Based on interviews with students from X High School in Pariaman, it was found that a significant portion of the student population accesses pornography on the internet when exposed to online advertisements and during casual browsing. The primary objective of this initiative is to nurture a generation of digitally aware youth by enhancing their knowledge and shaping healthier attitudes regarding cybersex. The location of the activities was SMA X Pariaman City. A combination of active and passive approaches was employed. Active methods involved delivering lectures with prepared materials and informative video presentations. Passively, students were provided with informational leaflets and banners placed strategically in the school environment. Pre-test and post-test questionnaires were administered to gauge the effectiveness of the materials and videos in influencing participants' knowledge and attitudes. Statistical analysis, including the Wilcoxon test and Gain Score, reveals a notable increase in expertise and confirms the effectiveness of the counseling efforts. In summary, this program effectively enhances knowledge and attitudes about cybersex among adolescents, marking a significant step in addressing this pressing issue.

Explanatory factors for problematic cybersex behaviour: the importance of negative emotions

Cybersex encompasses a wide range of behaviors that use information and communication technologies as a means of access to obtain sexual gratification, a phenomenon that can take on problematic patterns. The main objective of the study is to propose a model that explains the extent to which online sexual activities and the negative emotionality associated with them can generate a tolerance phenomenon characterized by an increase in the frequency and intensity of cybersex behaviors. To this end, the Cybersex Behavioral Assessment Questionnaire was administered to a sample of 369 individuals. The results show that online sexual behavior and the presence of negative emotions during the performance of these activities influence the occurrence of tolerance, which is characterized by an increase and variety of activities with increasingly extreme typology. These findings may have implications for education and healthcare.

Hubungan Antara Kecerdasan Moral Terhadap Perilaku Cybersex Pada Remaja

This research aims to examine the relationship between moral intelligence and cybersex behavior among adolescents. The methodology employed in this study involves the use of the product-moment correlation test, encompassing 270 adolescents aged 15 to 19 as research subjects. The Moral Competence Inventory (MCI) developed by Lennick and Kiel (2005) was utilized as the measure of moral intelligence, while the instrument for cybersex behavior originated from tools compiled by Delmonico and Miller (2003). The correlation result of -0.317, p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicates a negative relationship between moral intelligence and cybersex behavior among adolescents. It signifies that higher moral intelligence correlates with lower cybersex engagement among adolescents, and conversely, lower moral intelligence associates with increased cybersex activity among this demographic. One approach to address cybersex behavior is by enhancing adolescents' understanding of moral values.

Studi Deskriptif Perilaku Cybersex Pada Remaja

This study aims to look at the description of cybersex behavior in adolescents. This study used a quantitative approach involving 750 adolescents with an age range of 15-19 years. The measuring instrument used was ISST (Internet Sex Screening Test) which was compiled by the researcher based on aspects of cybersex by Delmonico and Miller (2003). The results showed that cybersex activity in this study was in the moderate category at 53.5%.

Hubungan Internet Parenting terhadap Perilaku Cybersex pada Remaja

This study aims to look at the relationship between internet parenting and cybersex behavior in adolescents. This study used a correlational quantitative approach involving 270 adolescents with an age range of 15-19 years selected through snowball sampling technique. Data analysis using product-moment correlation analysis which produces a correlation coefficient hypothesis of -0.211, p=0.000 (p < 0.05) indicates that there is a negative relationship between internet parenting and cybersex behavior in adolescents, where the higher the internet parenting, the lower the cybersex in adolescents, and the lower the internet parenting, the higher the cybersex in adolescents. One way that can be done to reduce cybersex behavior is to increase internet parenting towards internet use in adolescents.

Kontribusi Loneliness Terhadap Perilaku Cybersex Pada Remaja

This study aims to see the contribution of loneliness to cybersex behavior in adolescents. The hypothesis test used was simple linear regression analysis with 150 subjects aged 15-21 years, which were determined by snowball sampling technique. The measuring instruments used were the Cybersex Scale and the Loneliness Scale compiled by researchers based on aspects of Delmonico & Miller (2003) and Russell (1996). This study found that loneliness contributes significantly to cybersex with an R Square value of 0.090, which indicates that loneliness makes an effective contribution of 9% to cybersex behavior in adolescents.

Relationship Between Religiosity and Self-Control with Cybersex Behavior in School Students

Teenagers, characterized by burgeoning curiosity about sexual material on the internet and often a lack of self-control, are increasingly free to explore the web. This study endeavors to discern the relationship between religiosity and self-control in relation to cybersex behavior among students. The respondents comprised 80 students from two Public High Schools located in Surabaya and Pasuruan, Indonesia, aged between 15-18 years. The study employs a quantitative correlation method, with research data collated through Google Forms, utilizing scales of religiosity, self-control, and cybersex behavior that have satisfied the criteria of validity and reliability. The data were subsequently analyzed using Spearman's rank non-parametric statistical analysis. The results of this study show a substantial negative relationship between religiosity and cybersex behavior, with a correlation coefficient value between the two of -0.509 and a significance level of .000 (p = .05). Similar results showed that self-control and cybersex conduct had a correlation value of -.402, with a significance level of .000 (p = .05) signifying a substantial negative relationship. Therefore, there is a strong inverse association between self-control and cybersex.

Predictors of Cybersex Behavior among College Students in Karawang Indonesia

The aim of this research is to examine the roles of loneliness, psychological distress, emotional maturity, and self-control as predictors of cybersex behavior among college students in Karawang, Indonesia. The research method used in this research is an associative quantitative approach with the convenience sampling technique, which selects 349 college students in Karawang who meet the research characteristics as respondents. The data collection in this research was conducted using five Likert-scale models, which are self-control, loneliness, psychological distress, emotional maturity, and cybersex behavior scales. The data analysis in this research utilizes the hypothesis testing of multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the data analysis results, it is indicated that each predictor partially plays a role in cybersex behavior. Furthermore, loneliness, psychological distress, emotional maturity, and self-control collectively also play a role as predictors of cybersex behavior among college students in Karawang, Indonesia, with an influence of 16.8%.

INFLUENCE OF FAMILY MONITORING AND SEXUAL COMMUNICATION IN ADOLESCENT CYBERSEX BEHAVIOR


 
 
 
 Cybersex is the activity of accessing pornography on the internet, engaging in real-time, like conversations about online sexuality with others. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of family monitoring and sexual communication adolescent cybersex behavior in Sidoarjo. The study used cross-sectional analytics. Probability sampling technique with simple random sampling. Samples were 121 adolescent students of SMK Antartika 2 Sidoarjo. The research instrument used sexual communication questionnaires, family monitoring, and ISST questionnaires to assess cybersex behavior. Statistic test using rho sperman test. Results showed adolescent sexual communication with parents was 56.2% in the low, 29.8% moderate and 14% high categories. Family monitoring related to sexual behavior was 39.7% in the low category, 33.1% in the medium category, and 27.2% in the high category. Teen cybersex behavior was 61.9% riskless, 17.4% were low-risk, and 20.7% had high-risk behavior. The results of the spearman rho test between sexual communication and cybersex behavior showed p value = 0.000 which means that there is a relationship between sexual communication and cybersex behavior. In the family monitoring variable with cybersex behavior, it is obtained p value = 0.000, meaning that there is a relationship between family monitoring and adolescent cybersex behavior. It is hoped that families will pay more attention to adolescents in monitoring their sexual behavior. In addition, it also implements open communication with adolescents regarding their sexual behavior, so that adolescents avoid cybersex behavior.
 
 
 
 

Cybersex addiction: an overview of the development and treatment of a newly emerging disorder

Cybersex addiction is a non-substance related addiction that involves online sexual activity on the internet. Nowadays, various kinds of things related to sex or pornography are easily accessible through internet media. In Indonesia, sexuality is usually assumed taboo but most young people have been exposed to pornography. It can lead to an addiction with many negative effects on users, such as relationships, money, and psychiatric problems like major depression and anxiety disorders. A few instruments may be used to detect cybersex behavior. This review was aimed to provide a comprehensive discussion about cybersex addiction in Indonesian society and the importance of its screening for this condition to enable its early detection and subsequent management.

Cybersex Behavior in Millenial Generation

One of the phenomena in modern society now because of the increasing use of internet is cybersex. The negative effects of cybersex are prostitution, cyber crime, child abuse and pornography. As the most accessed generation of the internet allows millennials to get involved in cybersex activity. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to get an idea of the current millennial-generation cybersex behavior. The research used survey method with quantitative approach. The results concluded that most of the respondents performed offline sexual activity (masturbation, sex, and oral sex) during the last 6 months. It was also revealed that most respondents had sex offline with boyfriends, close friends, strangers without marriage bonds. As for cybersex activity, most respondents do it everyday as much as one to two times a week at home. The purpose of doing cybersex is mostly out of curiosity, as entertainment and recreation. Most respondents in doing cybersex activity by porn sites, the rest to have sex conversations (sex chatting), download pornography and access multimedia/software sex. Other findings say respondents also confessed to having sex conversations with boyfriends, spouses, close friends and new people and meeting face-to-face with someone who previously only met online for sexual purposes.

Relationship Between Self-Control With Cybersex Behavioral Tendencies and it’s Implication for Guidance and Counseling Services

The internet which is often used as a supply of various information and entertainment turns out to have many impacts. Impacts that are often caused are generally negative, one of which is the tendency of individuals to access matters relating to pornography or sexuality commonly known as cybersex. Cybersex can be interpreted as sexual activities, sexual shows or conversations that lead to matters relating to sexuality. But the reality in the field there are still students who access porn sites so that, can disrupt daily activities. If this problem is not resolved early on, this will have a negative impact on the individual. Allegedly one of the factors that influence it is self-control. Self-control is the ability to guide one's own behavior, the ability to emphasize or block impulses or impulse behavior. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-control and the tendency of cybersex behavior of students at Adabiah Padang Senior High School and the implications for guidance and counseling services. This type of research is a correlational descriptive study with quantitative methods. The population of this study was all male and female students of class X and XI majoring in Natural Sciences and Social Sciences at Adabiah Padang Senior High School, with a total sample of 149 students. Sample selection using Purposive Sampling technique. The research instrument used was a self-control questionnaire and cybersex with a Likert scale model. The results revealed that (1) the tendency of cybersex behavior of students in Adabiah Padang senior high school on average was categorized very high, (2) Self-control of students in Adabiah Padang senior high school was on average categorized low (3) There was a significant negative relationship between self-control with the tendency of cybersex behavior of students at Adabiah Padang Senior High School. Based on the research findings, it is suggested to the school counselor to be able to provide counseling services namely information services, content mastery services, individual counseling services, group counseling services and group guidance in order to help students who have self-control problems and cybersex behavioral tendencies.

How to inhibit the habit of masturbation in cybersex adolescents, from bio-psychological approach?

Watching pornographic impressions over the internet affects sexual behavior among teenagers. This study aims to analyze the effect of cybersex behavior on the intensity of masturbation in adolescents and the role of religiosity in limiting the influence of cybersex on masturbation habits. The method used in this study is a correlational quantitative method by taking 45 subject of cybersex users’ teenagers study obtained by snowballs technique. The data were processed using multiple linear regression. The results showed cybersex behavior affects masturbation habits in adolescents. At the same time, the results of this study indicate religiosity inhibiting masturbation behavior in cybersex users. This study provides a solution to control masturbation habits due to the large exposure of incoming pornographic impressions, since teenagers full of curiosity.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is finding the relationship between self-control with teen cybersex behaviors on the user's internet cafe. The hypothesis of is there is a negative relationship between self-control with teen cybersex behaviors on the user's internet cafe. The subjects were users of internet cafes (cafe) in Glagah Sari Yogyakarta, aged 12-23 years, male sex and women, as well as the use of internet services in internet cafes (cafe), amounting to 80 people. Measuring instruments used are teen cybersex behavior scale and the scale of self-control. Analysis of data using techniques Karl Pearson Product Moment Correlation with the help of the statistical program SPSS version 20 for Mac. Based on the correlation of test results obtained by the correlation between the maturity value and the emotional tendencies cybersex behavior of - .229 with p = 0.005 (p<0.05). This suggests that the hypothesis that there is a negative relationship between self-control teen cybersex behavior is acceptable. This means that the higher the self-control the behavior of the lower cybersex. The Role of Cultural Value Orientations and Sexual Desire in Predicting Cybersex Behavior in Unmarried Young Adults

The presence of Internet technology has opened up the emergence of new forms of sexual behavior, such as cybersex, which seems more massive nowadays. Regardless of the merits intended by the facilitating technology, in the context of Indonesian culture in which premarital sexual behavior (especially cybersex) is perceived as immoral, it is important to determine predictors of cybersex in order to minimize (or possibly eliminate) its negative impacts. This predictive-correlational designed study on 333 unmarried young adults participants (144 males, 189 females; mean of age = 20.724 years old, standard deviation of age = 1.902 years) employed the five dimensions of Hofstede‟s cultural value orientations (at individual level) and sexual desire as the predictors. The finding of this study was that only the long term orientation and sexual desire play significant roles in predicting cybersex, in positive ways; while four other cultural value orientations (power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity/femininity, and collectivism/individualism) are not able to predict it.

In this study, researchers examined the effect of religious identity and moral disgust on cybersex behavior. Researchers assumes that the identification of religious values and sensitivity to violations of these values can dencrease cybersex behavior. Cybersex behavior consisting of interactive and noninteractive aspect was measured by a cybersex behavior scale (cronbach'alpha = .89); Religious Identity consisting of internalization, religious affiliation, and symbolization is measured by religious identity scale (cronbach'alpha = .93), and moral disgust was measured by a moral disgust scale (cronbach'alpha = .91). Data were obtained from 166 students of Psychology of University X. The results of hypothesis testing using multiple regression analysis showed that religious identity and Moral disgust, both together (R = .483) or individually (A¢1 = - .325, t = -4256, p <.001; A¢2 = - .242, t = -3174, p = .002) showed a negative influence on cybersex behavior. Applying a Sexual Health Model to the Assessment and Treatment of Internet Sexual Compulsivity

This article describes the application of the Sexual Health Model (Robinson, Bockting, Rosser, Miner, & Coleman, 2002) to treatment for cybersex. A brief summary of the historical development of the model is followed by a deeper review of how the model is important in addressing the issues related to cybersex. Specific strategies are discussed regarding the components of the sexual health model as a pathway for interventions addressing problematic cybersex behaviors. Specific exercises and activities for each of these components may be found in the Edwards, Delmonico, and Griffin (2011) workbook, Cybersex Unplugged.
