Influence of a Culture of Honesty and Exemplary Teachers on Student Character at Watuwali State Elementary School

This research discusses the influence of a culture of honesty and teacher example on the character of students at Watuwali State Elementary School. The method in this research is quantitative with a descriptive approach. The population in this study was all Watuwali State Elementary School students for the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 62 people. The instruments used in this research were an honest culture questionnaire, a teacher exemplary questionnaire, and a student character questionnaire. Based on the results of partial statistical analysis between honest culture and student character, the value obtained is tcount = 4.984 and ttable = 1.671 (tcount > ttable) and a significant value of 0.000 (0.000<0.05) so it can be partially concluded that there is an influence of honest culture on student character. The results of partial statistical analysis between teacher example and student character showed tcount = 5.066 and ttable = 1.671 (tcount > ttable) and a significant value of 0.000 (0.000<0.05) so it can be concluded that partially there is an influence of teacher example on student character. The results of the regression analysis show that the value of Fcount = 12.633 Ftable = 3.15 (Fcount > Ftable) and a significant value of 0.000 (0.000<0.05), so it can be concluded that there is a significant influence between the culture of honesty and teacher example on the character of students in state elementary schools. Investigating Factors Leading to Develop Academic Dishonesty and Cheating Behaviors During Board Examinations in Balochistan, Pakistan

This study investigates the pervasive issue of academic dishonesty and cheating behaviors during board examinations in Balochistan, highlighting diverse contributing factors and underscoring the pivotal role of exams in shaping academic paths. The study adopted a quantitative approach, 200 student responses collected through nonprobability random sampling. Using the rational choice theory, this study fills a research gap and advances understanding of academic dishonesty by offering insightful information. Empirical data analysis was utilized to conclude. The research reveals a high incidence of cheating from students with various causes, including the fear of failure, societal expectations, and peer pressure associated with examinations. Notably, stress and anxiety emerge as key predictors of academic dishonesty. Students, facing intense academic pressures, often turn to unethical practices as a coping mechanism. The study underscores the inadvertent encouragement of cheating within the education system, driven by an excessive focus on exam results as the primary measure of success. The findings contribute valuable insights to the academic integrity discourse, advocating for comprehensive strategies to foster a healthier educational system in Balochistan. Recommendations include addressing root causes, promoting a supportive learning environment, fostering open dialogue, and promoting a broader definition of success. formative assessments, post-exam feedback, parental collaboration, and workshops on academic integrity are proposed to create a more supportive and ethical learning environment, enforcing academic honor codes, strict exam monitoring, and efforts to mitigate cheating should extend beyond punitive measures and implement initiatives to reshape perceptions of success, ultimately cultivating a culture of honesty and integrity in education.

A study on academic dishonesty among English as a foreign language students

Academic dishonesty is prevalent and has unfortunately become normalized in post-secondary institutions worldwide. The COVID-19 pandemic more than two years ago led to an increase in cheating and confrontation of instructors with academic honesty. The main objective of this study was to create an explicative model according to the levels of morality, pragmatism, and gender. Researchers applied an online questionnaire to 735 anonymous university students. Analysis showed that participants were less honest in morality than in pragmatism, but the average value was very close for both dimensions. A substantial number of students with low and moderate levels of dishonesty were observed in both moral and pragmatic contexts. The initial hypothesis was partially validated, as the level of morality was associated with the level of pragmatism rather than gender, indicating a direct albeit moderate impact of pragmatism on morality. We confirmed the second hypothesis, showing the influence of gender and morality on the level of pragmatism. Participants suggested that English as a Foreign Language instructors should modify their approach, account for ethical considerations, offer extra classes, revise teaching and evaluation methods, and sanction students who cheat. Surprisingly, results show a slight tendency for lower honesty in morality compared to pragmatism. Despite honest behaviors, it is essential to address gender differences and promote academic honesty through education, policies, and a culture of honesty.

FRAUD PREVENTION STRATEGIES IN INDONESIAN MSMEs: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HONESTY AND INTERNAL CONTROL FACTORS

This study highlights the role of honesty and internal control in preventing fraud in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. MSMEs are an important pillar in the national economy, but face challenges such as poor management, limited human resources, and fraud. This study examines the impact of a culture of honesty and the implementation of effective internal controls to reduce fraud risk. The sample consisted of 150 MSMEs. Testing was performed using SmartPLS. The results show that honesty and good internal control can increase the reliability of financial information, operational efficiency, and consumer trust. In addition, the implementation of internal control, which includes risk assessment, control activities, and information and communication, has proven to be effective in mitigating the risk of fraud. To support MSMEs in moving up in class and achieving sustainable success, the government and other stakeholders must provide management guidance, training, and support programs that focus on increasing honesty and internal control. Thus, MSMEs can be better prepared to face business challenges, reduce the risk of fraud, and contribute more to national economic growth. Enhancing Academic Integrity in Online Assessments: Introducing an Effective Online Exam Proctoring Model using YOLO

The issue of cheating during exams has become a significant concern, gaining widespread attention from the public and media. This issue has been made worse by the transition of educational institutions to an online format, making it simpler to engage in academic dishonesty. To overcome this problem, developed an innovative solution known as the Online Exam Proctoring Model using You Only Look Once (YOLO) Model. With the use of cutting-edge computer vision algorithms, the proposed model makes use of data from cameras and microphones to automatically spot and prevent cheating during online exams. Face orientation, face spoofing detection, mouth tracking, audio analysis, mobile device recognition, and person counting are among the primary elements built into the model. Object detection algorithms, in conjunction with pre-trained YOLO weights, empower the model to detect mobile devices and count the number of individuals present in the exam environment. The automatic termination of exams upon detection of mobile devices, multiple persons, or no persons for 10 seconds acts as a strong deterrent against cheating. The suggested methodology created a reliable and effective tool for online examinations, guaranteeing the academic integrity and enabling impartial assessment of the skills and knowledge of learners. By implementing this solution, educational institutions can foster a secure online exam environment, promoting a culture of honesty and trust between students and educators. As navigate the evolving environment of education, the model stands as a reliable ally in upholding the credibility and authenticity of online learning experiences.

“CTRL + C, CTRL + V”: ACADEMIC INTEGRITY IN ONLINE LANGUAGE LEARNING

This qualitative study aims to explore academic integrity in terms of plagiarism issues in online language classes at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges. The study has two research questions: (1) What types of plagiarism do online submitted outputs of students in online language classes fall? (2) What strategies do college instructors use to prevent and detect plagiarism in their language classes? Turnitin and content analysis were utilized to identify types of plagiarism committed by students, while structured interviews and thematic analysis were used to gather data on strategies used by college instructors. Results indicated that among the five types of plagiarism, Badyal (2018) has categorized, Mosaic Plagiarism or Patch Writing was the most prevalent, while Structural Plagiarism had the least number of cases identified, and no instances of Self-Plagiarism were found. Nonetheless, some outputs were plagiarism-free. The study also identified language instructors' strategies to prevent and detect plagiarism in their classes. The study recommends that academic institutions prioritize creating a culture of honesty and ethical behavior in academic writing, educate students on clear citation guidelines, and implement stricter penalties. The study's results can assist policymakers and educational institutions create practical measures to encourage academic honesty and avoid plagiarism in online language classes.

Faktor-Faktor Yang Memengaruhi Persepsi Karyawan Dalam Pencegahan Fraud (Studi Empiris Pada PT. BPR BKK Kabupaten Pekalongan (Perseroda))

This study aims to determine the effect of employee perceptions of the culture of honesty, whistleblowing system and internal control system on fraud prevention. This study is a quantitative study using primary data obtained from questionnaires and measured using a Likert scale. The population in this study were all employees of PT BPR BKK Pekalongan Regency (Perseroda). The sampling technique used purposive sampling with sample criteria, in order to obtain a sample of 104 people. The data analysis technique used multiple linear regression analysis using the SPSS version 25 program. The results showed that the culture of honesty and the internal control system had a positive and significant effect on fraud prevention. Meanwhile, the whistleblowing system has no effect on fraud prevention.

Analysis of the work culture in head of inpatient room at Madani Hospital, Palu

This study aims to examine the work culture of nurses in the inpatient room of the Madani Regional General Hospital, Palu. This type of qualitative research with the number of participants as many as 7 heads of rooms and heads of special inpatient installations. Sources of data obtained directly through in-depth interviews. The identified work culture is a culture of honesty, a culture of persistence and a culture of creativity. A culture of honesty applies the rules in everyday life at work. A culture of persistence begins with making plans, implementing them and evaluating. The culture of creativity is embodied in creating bright ideas and applying them to the main tasks. This study identifies the work culture of leaders in the nursing line who applies a culture of honesty, a culture of persistence and a culture of creativity that contributes to effective nurse leadership.

Smart cities in China: sustainable or surveyed

China is home to some 800 smart cities projects aspiring to win the global race toward building advanced data-driven society - causing both awe and concern around the world. CCP leadership has been signalling the importance of smart cities development, to the point of including it in national strategy - over the past decade, China has become a global leader in smart city initiatives – advancements in big data and artificial intelligence (AI) powered analysis undoubtedly improved urban management and digital technologies are extensively interwoven into the everyday life of denizens of Chinese cities and villages. The government has been presenting initiatives related to smart city programme as a way of bringing the citizens closer to the state, building a “harmonious society” through a “culture of honesty”. But what is the extent to which integration of citizen into smart systems changes life in data-enabled cities? This paper will present an overview of the findings in current research of the implications of Chinese approach to smart city concept. It will be also an attempt to highlight the crucial elements of cyber security in the context of Internet of Things (IoT) and smart solutions employed in China.

Research on College Students’ Anti Fraud and Honesty Culture Education

In order to further promote the education of honesty culture, we should actively create a campus cultural atmosphere of ‘honor of integrity and shame of dishonesty’, and enhance college students􀆳 awareness of integrity, self- awareness of fraud prevention and social responsibility. From the perspective of higher education, this paper mainly discusses the problem of college students􀆳 anti fraud and how to carry out the education strategy of anti fraud and honesty, hoping to improve the phenomenon of college students􀆳 frequent being cheated and lack of honesty.

Informal institution and corporate innovation: From the perspective of social trust

Purpose: This study examines how social trust, as an informal institution, creates a cooperative and honest atmosphere to improve managers’ willingness for firm innovation. This study also addresses that the informal system may substitute for the formal institutions in promoting corporate innovation. Design/methodology/approach: This study opts a sample of Chinese listed firms over the period of 2007–2014. We obtain the detailed patent application information from the official website of China Patent and Intellectual Property Office. The social trust information is based on the results of Chinese Enterprise Survey System. Findings: The results indicate that firms located in regions of high social trust tend to have more innovation output, and is robust to a battery of sensitivity tests. The authors further document that this effect is more pronounced for firms with poor short-term financial performance, which are located in regions with weak legal environments and firms having lower information transparency. In addition, the authors also demonstrate that social trust can help firms to get adequate funds to reduce financial pressure and encourage firms to pay more attention to long-term benefits, alleviating investors as well as management myopia. Research limitations/implications: Limited by the data sources, when measuring innovation activity, the authors only use patent numbers represent for innovation output. Then, this study measures the patent quality through classifying patent categories (invention patent or others), since in China, the citation data are imperfect and inadequate. Practical implications: The results suggest that social trust means a good culture of honesty and cooperation can promote firm’s innovation engagement. Especially, in emerging markets, where formal mechanisms are relatively less effective, informal institutions can serve as an alternative system for alleviating information asymmetry. Originality/value: This study contributes to the literature in two ways. First, this study finds the positive effect of social trust on corporate innovation, which provides a new perspective for deepening the understanding of the influence factors of innovation. Second, this study further clarifies the mechanism of social trust promoting firm innovation, indicating that social trust can effectively alleviate outsiders’ concern about moral hazard risk. Then the stakeholders are more willing to provide financial support and pay more attention to the firm’s long-term performance.

Child Friendly Environments in Norway and the Kenyan Contexts

The article explores the experiences of children within Norway and the Kenyan contexts. The main aim is to explore how a child-friendly context inspires honest behaviours. What ignited the interests in this comparative area is the study on 'civic honesty around the globe.' The article employs different techniques such as narratives analysis, observation, interview, and literature analysis so as to address the question under consideration. The findings presentthe subtle meaning of honesty from the Kenyan context and does not prepare children for honesty. Lastly, the article has made recommendations on the approaches that will ingrain the culture of honesty that is ideally inculcated in child friendly environments. Such comparative analysis will inform the future discourses, especially in the Kenyan context where Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) is taking shape.

Effectiveness of Internal Audit in Supporting Internal Control and Prevention of Fraud

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of internal audit at PT Bank Sulselbar Makassar in supporting internal control over fraud. This study uses a qualitative approach with the method of documentation, interviews and questionnaires to the internal auditors, anti-fraud department, and management as data collection methods. After the data was collected, data analysis was carried out using descriptive methods and measuring effectiveness. Based on the study results, it can be stated that the role of the Internal Audit Group as an internal audit in improving the internal control system for fraud at Bank Sulselbar has been influential. The internal audit of Bank Sulselbar has the authority to monitor the follow-up to the results of the audit conducted by the auditor. Monitoring activities are carried out to ensure that corrective actions have been carried out adequately and effectively. Thus, the company will implement better internal controls in the future because assessments and corrective actions for weaknesses and errors found are always carried out. There are three elements to prevent and detect fraud, namely a culture of honesty (personal), management responsibility to evaluate fraud risk (through internal control), and supervision by the audit committee (internal audit).

Morality in Competition Law: The Culture of Honesty and Trust in Consumer Protection

Recent works in legal scholarship have shifted the focus of competition law to the economic analysis of law. Yet today we face the revival of the fairness concerns in competition polices. This article concerns itself with the nature of the interdependent relationship between competition law and consumer protection law as ancillary to the necessary relationship between law and morality. Hereby it aims to revisit their raison d’être to discuss that fairness and equity do not lack economic foundations. For an efficient market structure, private property and good faith in contractual relations are essential. This article aims to scrutinise the latter, while showing its objective criteria: Honesty, trust and reasonableness, as the moral essence of competition and consumer protection laws. These criteria provide efficient means to address moral aspects of fairness in competition law as it is best illustrated within its relation to consumer protection without compromising their economic foundations. COVID-19 pandemic: Building organisational flexibility to scale transplant programs.

The prevailing coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has challenged our lives in an unprecedented manner. The pandemic has had a significant impact on transplantation worldwide. The logistics of travel restrictions, stretching of available resources, unclear risk of infection in immunosuppressed transplant recipients, and evolving guidelines on testing and transplantation are some of the factors that have unfavourably influenced transplant activity. We must begin to build organisational flexibility in order to restart transplantation so that we can be mindful stewards of organ donation and sincere advocates for our patients. Building a culture of honesty and transparency (with patients, families, colleagues, societies, and authorities), keeping the channels of communication open, working in collaboration with others (at local, regional, national, and international levels), and not restarting without rethinking and appraising all elements of our practice, are the main underlying principles to increase the flexibility.

Enhancing Whistleblower Protection: It’s all about the Culture

Whistleblowers and their role as accountability and fraud prevention mechanism have recently been in the centre of attention. Despite several initiatives to encourage and motivate whistleblowers internationally, there are numerous recorded instances of retaliation and harassment practices. As a result, potential whistleblowers do not feel adequately protected to step up and raise their concerns. The improvement of the protection regime internationally and the establishment of a robust system of incentives requires going beyond the introduction of new rules. Emphasis needs to be given to corporate culture so that the existing culture of silence is replaced by a new culture of honesty, integrity and transparency. "Constructing a Culture of Honesty and Integrity": The Evolution of China's Han-centric Surveillance System

Surveillance has become the dominant organizing force of the modern era. A once isolated and limited practice, surveillance now pervades every facet of urban existence in practically all corners of the globe. Contemporary surveillance of the type facilitated by information and communication technologies embodies the logical outcome of a positivist rationality that seeks to reduce all life phenomena to calculation and quantifiable management. The quest for security, risk management, administrative efficiency, and consumer convenience continues to motivate the global expansion of surveillance and facilitates the creation of new types of technologies and regimes. However, as new global actors seek to deploy their own advanced digitized systems, attention must be focused on the unique socio-cultural background against which both overt and covert forms of surveillance are being formulated.

THE STUDY OF EDUCATIONAL HONESTY STAGES IMPLEMENTATION IN AN INDONESIAN SCHOOL

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop an honesty model of education in a school, especially to convey the stages, facilities, and infrastructure needed to carry out honesty education in a school.
 Methodology: This study used a qualitative method in a case study approach. Data collection was conducted in five ways, namely direct observation, observer as a participant, interviews, documentation, Soft and physical Devices The numbers of the participant were 29 teachers and 40 students. Activities in qualitative data analysis are carried out interactively and continuously and are holistic in nature. Therefore data analysis this study uses 3 steps to analyze research data. first, data reduction. Second, display data, the third is conclusion drawing or verification.
 Main Findings: The results of this research show that honesty culture can be implemented with a strong school system and with stages clearly.
 Applications of this study: This study can be useful in moral education or character building for students in a school
 Novelty/Originality of this study: The process of implementing honesty culture takes place through 4 stages. The first is protection, the second introduction, the third habituation inside and outside the classroom, and the fourth celebrations. The school compiles programs, policies and provides facilities and infrastructure that are oriented to the formation of an honesty culture for students and for all school members.

PERAN KEPALA SATUAN KERJA PERANGKAT KOTA (SKPK) DALAM PENCEGAHAN KECURANGAN (FRAUD) (STUDI PENELITIAN PADA SKPK DI KOTA BANDA ACEH)

The purpose of this research is to determine how the effort and obstacles for head’s SKPK in fraud prevention. This research use descriptive qualitative method with primary data and supported by secondary data. The sample was taken by purposive sampling method and the samples are 14 informants. Data collection technique that used in this research is interview and documentation. Data analysis technique that used in this research is data collection, data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusion/verification. The results of this research is: 1) Head’s SKPK in Banda Aceh have been aware about the importance of fraud prevention measures. The efforts of head’s SKPK in fraud prevention is to oversee the application of e-performance and e-procurement sustainably, to make innovations of anti-fraud policies, and creating a culture of honesty and high ethics; 2) The obstacles faced by a head’s SKPK in fraud prevention such as the density of activity, inhibition, and its psychological burden.
