Education is one of the basic needs required by every human being and an obligation that must be obtained by every citizen. The development of human life from time to time is certain to be more complex, especially in the development of science and technology. This requires humans to always be able to compete in keeping up with developments and be able to survive by being able to solve all the problems they face.Therefore, a student's ability to think critically is an important and primary thing. Critical thinking skills will be very beneficial for students because they will understand a problem in detail, so it is expected that students will find it easier to solve the problem. For this reason, learning that emphasizes critical thinking skills must be implemented in schools, especially at the junior high school level, which is the middle level of education and is a stepping stone to a wider social interaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of applying the Problem-Based Learning model in improving critical thinking attitudes in Catholic Religious Education and Ethics learning for seventh-grade students with the theme "I Have Abilities and Limitations" at SMP Negeri 1 Temanggung. The type of research used is quantitative. This method is called the traditional method because it has been used for quite some time so it has become a tradition as a method for research. Quantitative research is research in which the data is presented in the form of numbers and uses statistical analysis, usually aimed at showing the relationship between variables, testing theories, and finding generalizations that have predictive value. The researcher uses a quantitative method because it is necessary to measure data in research related to Fostering Critical Thinking Attitudes of Students Through the Problem-Based Learning Model in Catholic Religious Education and Ethics Subjects for Grade VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Temanggung. The type of research often used by a researcher in the field of education is experimental. This type of research is used to find out the influence of certain treatments on a variable under controlled conditions. This is applied to find out the effect if the problem-based learning (PBL) learning model treatment is given to the critical thinking abilities of seventh-grade students in Catholic Religious Education and Ethics.

Analysis of Students' Scientific Attitudes in Learning Science in The Campus Teaching Program at SMP Negeri 5 People's Village

Abstract : The aim of this research is to determine the scientific attitude towards science learning in campus teaching programs for class VIII students at SMP Negeri 5 Kampung Rakyat. The research method used in this research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The results of this research analysis show that four dominant scientific attitudes are seen in science learning in campus teaching programs, namely a curious attitude such as students having a high sense of curiosity about new things so that students are enthusiastic about asking questions. Indicators of respect for facts like students can appreciate and accept the opinions expressed by teachers and friends. Indicators of attitudes of willingness to change views such as students being able to realize changes to a more reasonable view of the facts. Students can convey the results of the discussion according to existing facts. The final indicator is a critical thinking attitude, such as students doubting the opinions or answers of other friends, students asking about learning they have just learned about, and students being able to express their opinions if there are differences in opinion between what the teacher conveys and the opinions of other discussion groups.

Development of Critical Thinking Attitude of IPR Students in Learning Indonesian Courses

One of the potentials that must be developed and formed in higher education is critical thinking. Critical thinking is an organized mental process and plays a role in the process of making decisions to solve problems. Critical thinking includes the activities of analyzing and interpreting data in scientific discovery activities. To develop students' critical thinking skills, learning innovations need to be implemented. The aim of this research is to find out how the critical thinking attitudes of IPR students develop in learning Indonesian language courses. This research is classroom action research using a design developed by Kemmis and MC Taggart which consists of three stages, namely the planning stage, the treatment and observation stage, and the reflection stage. The results of this research show that the development of critical thinking of HKI students in the Indonesian language course has succeeded in improving their thinking skills with a score of 23 in the pre-action stage, cycle I increased to 27.7 and cycle II increased to 36.6.

Peningkatan Sikap Ilmiah Siswa melalui Model Inkuiri Terbimbing pada Materi FPB dan KPK Kelas IV di Sekolah Dasar Negeri 34 Pontianak Selatan

Through guided inquiry models of least common multiple (LCM) and greatest sommon divisior (GCD) class IV materials, the general goal of this study is to describe the rise in students' scientific attitudes at SD Negeri 34 Pontianak Selatan. Using classroom action research (CAR), this study was conducted over two cycles with planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. Study the subject. The subjects of this research were 30 students of class IVB at SDN 34 Pontianak Selatan. The purpose of this research is to increase students' scientific attitudes through the application of guided inquiry learning models. The scientific attitudes tested in this study were adapted from Gega which consist of the aspects of curiosity, critical thinking, invention, and fortitude. In cycle I, the result of curiosity during the results of meetings 1 and 2 revealed values of 77.50% and 80%, respectively, and in cycle II, the results of meetings 1 and 2 revealed values of 83.33% and 87.50%. In cycle I, meeting 1 and meeting 2 showed values of 80% and 85% for critical thinking attitudes, while in cycle II, meeting 1 and meeting 2 show values of 90% and 93.33%. The values for students' discovery attitudes in cycles I and II of meetings 1 and 2 are 65% and 75%, respectively, while the values for cycle I of meetings 1 and 2 are 76.66% and 83.33%. The last one is firm attitude in cycle I of meetings 1 and 2 shows the values ​​of 71.66% and 76.66%, and in cycle II meetings 1 and 2 obtained values ​​of 85% and 90%. Based on the research results, we can conclude that SD Negeri 34 Pontianak Selatan has increased the use of the guided inquiry learning model for class IV least common multiple (LCM) and greatest common divisior (GCD) materials from cycle I to cycle II.

Attitudes toward possible food radiation contamination following the Fukushima nuclear accident: a nine-year, ten-wave panel survey

After the Fukushima nuclear accident, we examined changes in risk perception regarding the radiation contamination of food and information-seeking behavior among residents of three regions progressively more distant from the disaster area, the Tokyo Metropolitan area to the Kansai area. We conducted a ten-wave panel survey and obtained data from 1,752 citizens six months to nine years after the accident. The results indicate that anxiety related to radioactive contamination, active information-seeking behavior, and avoidance of foods from affected areas decreased with time. Active information-seeking behavior and radiation-related knowledge were higher in the disaster-affected prefectures than in other areas. Conversely, avoidance of foods from affected areas was lower in affected prefectures than in the Kansai area. The credibility of government information increased from a considerably low level but did not reach the midpoint level. Multiple regression analysis, cross-lagged analysis, and structural equation modeling indicated that avoidance of foods from affected areas was promoted by anxiety related to radioactive contamination (experiential thinking/System 1) and inhibited by critical thinking attitudes (analytical thinking/System 2). Finally, we discussed the significance of risk literacy, which integrates risk-related knowledge, scientific literacy, media literacy, and critical thinking.

Cooperative-flipped classroom under online modality: Enhancing students' mathematics achievement and critical thinking attitude

The effectiveness of devoting more time to student-centered activities than lectures inside the classroom is discussed in the paper. The use of pre-recorded videos of lessons to supplement teachers' lectures gives students plenty of time to prepare and study the material in advance and allows teachers to spend the majority of their lecture time on interactive activities that will encourage students to think critically and improve their communication skills. The study aimed to enhance the mathematics achievement and critical thinking attitude of senior high school students. As shown by the quantitative data gathered, the study demonstrated how teachers' teaching methods and students' attitudes toward critical thinking affect students' ability to do mathematical tasks. Significant differences were manifested in the pre-test and post-test results of mathematics achievement of the CFc group as well as in the post-test result of CFc and the pure online groups. A significant regression model was also shown to support the influence of critical thinking attitude on the mathematics achievement of the participants. Meanwhile, the qualitative data gathered from the journal of the students revealed that, as one of the lingering effects of the CoViD-19 pandemic in the Philippines, more exposure of students to self-paced and technology-aided teaching materials contributes to their ability to learn independently and examine their self-regulative learning process, which is a result of inverting the classroom. Additionally, in a mathematics classroom, cooperative learning techniques proved to be an excellent complement to flipped learning.

Critical Thinking Attitude and Some Other Variables in Predicting Students’ Democratic Attitudes

This research was conducted to determine the effects of the attitudes towards critical thinking, gender, socioeconomic factors (education level of parents, income level, place of residence) as well as academic success, reading and television viewing habits in predicting the democratic attitudes of the fourth grade students. The research was carried out with the participation of 1066 students studying in the 4th grades of primary schools in the central districts of Diyarbakır in the 2017-2018 academic year. The study is descriptive and has a relational screening model. The "Democratic Attitude Scale" (DAS) developed by Erbil and Kocabaş (2017) was employed to determine the students' democratic attitudes and the "Critical Thinking Attitude Scale" (CTAS) developed by Akar-Vural (2005) was used to measure their critical thinking attitudes. A Personal Information Form was used to get information about the students. As a result of the research, democratic attitudes of the students were found "very good" and their attitudes towards critical thinking were "good". According to the results of the regression analysis, it was determined that all the independent variables of the study predicted the students' democratic attitudes at the level of 17%. It was found that critical thinking attitude scores (2.7%), socioeconomic factors (6.5%), and academic success, television viewing and reading habits (7.5%) significantly predicted the students' democratic attitudes. Considering the regression coefficients, it was seen that gender, maternal education level and reading habits did not contribute significantly to predicting democratic attitudes.

Critical Thinking as an Integral Outcome in Translator and Interpreter Training

The aim of this study is to investigate the critical thinking attitudes of translator and interpreter candidates with a view to coming up with recommendations on curriculum development in Translation and Interpretation undergraduate studies. A "Critical Thinking Skills Scale" was administered to 354 translation and interpretation students from five universities in Turkey. Independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Scheffe test were used in data analysis. With the highest and lowest attitudes found for receptiveness and inquiry skills respectively, the total critical thinking attitudes of translator candidates are above the average. The class level of the students is inversely correlated with total scores for critical thinking attitudes, in addition to the flexibility and judiciousness subdimensions. Moreover, translator candidates of the Bulgarian language have the highest total scores for critical thinking attitudes as compared to those of English, French, Persian and German. The results show that innovative curricula involving related tasks and activities must be developed for translation and interpretation departments to enhance translator candidates' critical thinking skills, bearing in mind the very nature of the act of translation and interpretation.

The Analysis of the Relation Between Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies and Critical Thinking Attiude of Pre-Service Classroom Teachers

The study's major goal was to analyze the relation between preservice classroom teachers' metacognitive awareness of reading practices and critical thinking attitudes. The Metacognitive awareness of reading strategies inventory (MARSI-TR), Critical thinking attitude scale (CTS), and demographics information form were utilized to collect data for the study. A total of 294 pre-service classroom teachers in the first and the fourth grades from two public universities constituted the sample. The results showed that women had both higher metacognitive awareness and critical thinking attitudes than men. As for the mother and father’s education level, significant differences were found between sub-dimensions of critical thinking attitude scores of preservice classroom teachers. All of the correlations among the factors of metacognition and critical thinking attitude showed significant values, the direction of the relationships are all positive where the use of metacognition awareness factor increases with the scores on the factors of critical thinking. Additionally, critical thinking sub-dimensions explain 11% of the change in metacognitive awareness of reading strategies.

Scientific Attitude Assessment Instruments Using Self-Assessment in Project-Based Learning Development

Scientific attitude is very important in learning activities. In addition, one of the learning objectives stated that students must have character. Students must be able to solve problems scientifically to form a good character or attitude. Such learning can be realized by using contextual learning such as project-based learning, as well as using standard scientific attitude assessment instruments. However, this affective assessment has been less emphasized. Most educators prioritize cognitive aspects in their assessment activities. For this reason, it is necessary to develop a scientific attitude assessment using self & peer assessment in project-based learning. This research is a kind of R&D research that used the ADDIE development model. The purpose of this study is to analyze the validity of the instrument, the practicality of the instrument, and the effectiveness of the developed scientific attitude assessment instrument by using self & peer assessment in project-based learning. The sample used in this study was class VII A and B SMP N 04 Lambu Kibang totaling 48 students. The lesson taught was about environmental pollution. The results of the validity of the instrument analyzed using the CVR obtained 0.9. This means that the instrument validity was good. The results of the instrument's effectiveness can be seen from the scientific attitude that has excellent criteria. The assessment used in this study was only self-assessment because of the limited learning activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first learning step is having a scientific attitude of critical thinking, responsibility, and care for the environment. The second is having curiosity, perseverance, and responsibility. The third is having curiosity, critical thinking, and being objective. In the fourth learning step, the scientific attitudes that have excellent criteria are the attitude of being curious, objective, and persevering. The fifth learning step is being disciplined, caring for the environment, and having a critical thinking attitude. The sixth is an attitude of curiosity, perseverance, and responsibility.

Awareness of Critical Thinking Attitudes and English Language Skills: The Effects of Questions Involving Higher-order Thinking

This study examines Japanese students’ awareness regarding critical thinking (CT) attitudes and their attention to building their speaking skills in an EFL context to determine effective CT approaches. The study began with a literature review of CiNii articles and studies from the Web of Science database regarding CT theories and educational approaches. It examined critical thinking approaches in EFL contexts as well as foreign-language approaches of International Baccalaureate® (IB) programmes. The review indicated that critical thinking can be fostered when students are asked questions that require higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in EFL courses. Then, EFL lessons were organised based on the theories and approaches examined in the review. Participants included 22 Japanese senior high school students. Various higher cognitive level questions were posed to the participants. Additionally, students were required to prepare and present academic presentations and answer discussion questions after the presentation. To ascertain students’ awareness of attitudes toward CT, the Critical Thinking Attitudes Scale was used, and students’ reflective essays were analysed using the co-occurrence network of words in the KH Coder. To measure students’ speaking skills, their performance on speaking tasks was analysed by two International Baccalaureate’s examiners. The results indicate that the improvement of CT attitudes and speaking skills is significant regardless of English proficiency level. These findings suggest that if EFL teachers ask HOTS questions, students would become aware of critical thinking attitudes and acquire English speaking skills by answering the questions in a Japanese EFL context.
