«Theory of everything»: types of information and the theory of interpretation in «Philosophy of chance» by Stanisław Lem

The article is focused on the S. Lem’s perspective of the literary work as a product of the reader’s apprehension of the text in the culture discourse. The aim of the research is to describe the Lem’s view on the structure of the text; Lem’s encounter as a writer, a reader, and a philosopher is used to state the conditions and characteristics of the text interpretation. By the means of multiple introspection the author of “Philosophy of chance” devotes his research to the explanation of his model of the literary work as a product of the social-cultural existence. Moreover, the author’s aim is to state the characteristics of the text creation and interpretation. Therefore, the research shows a new, “cybernetic” approach to the text interpretation based on the comparison between the text structural characteristics and the rules of the mathematical theory of probability and the theory of information. The futurological view lies in the hypothesis about the text as a “self-learning program” (also known as a neuronet) which can transform due to the developing conditions of the interpretation process. As a matter of fact, S. Lem highlights two types of information: selective and structural. Both types might be identified in the text, but that depends on the reader, his encounter and expertise.

Translating official documents: an art of governance by translation in the Qing dynasty

State governance is, in many ways, a discursive practice that relies on the creation, translation, and transmission of governance-oriented texts. The act of governance by translation typically occurs in multi-ethnic, multilingual, and unified political contexts. When translation adheres to established patterns and effective regimes, it forms a governance technique known as “translation governmentality.” In the Qing dynasty (1644–1911), confronted with the challenge of governing a vast territory with diverse ethnic groups speaking different languages, the Qing authorities prioritized the translation of official documents to implement this translation governmentality. Despite its significance, a comprehensive overview of official document translation in the Qing dynasty within the framework of governance by translation has not received sufficient attention. This study employs documentary analysis to understand the historical contexts of official document translations, interpret the motivations behind these translations, and reconstruct the organized regimes of translation practices in the Qing period. The findings reveal that the Qing dynasty developed a relatively organized and mature translation regime for official documents by establishing translation agencies, appointing specialized translation officials, and adopting multilingual translation modes. This governance-oriented translation regime effectively shaped the core concepts, institutional systems, and organizational mechanisms of state governance in the Qing dynasty. Additionally, it contributed to establishing the legitimacy of state governance during that era.

Conceptualising mass death through Palestinian texts amidst Gaza events 2023/24

ABSTRACT Following the Gaza events of 2023/24, this study examines how Palestinians understand mass death and mass destruction, exploring how can such a humanitarian catastrophe be framed within a coherent narrative. The focus is on the concept of sacrifice, analysed through a theoretical framework that distinguishes between meaningful sacrifices and absurd, meaningless deaths that categorises the victims as homo-sacer. Hence, this study aims to investigate the language and literature of the Palestinian people that regards to the 2023/24 Gaza events, and the way it re-conceptualises the mass death and destruction and its victims, between the concepts of sacrifice and homo-sacer. A sample of 120 literary and creative texts from the cultural magazine ‘Fusha for Palestinian Culture,’, 1 was examined using the methodology of thematic analysis. Four primary themes emerged from the texts: the active documentation, the speed and intensity of death and destruction, the form of death, namely handling of bodies and burial rituals, and lastly the implementation of myths from various traditions, including the duality of mythologising and demythologising Gaza and its inhabitants. I conclude that these four themes were elemental in the rhetoric process of sanctification of the mass and random death and destruction.

“The Beads” by Maria Wirtemberska – an interperiodic comedy of consolation

The article discusses the one-act comedy The Beads by Maria Wirtemberska, which remains in manuscript. The subject of the paper is an attempt to situate the duchess's work in the panorama of creative tendencies of the time, with particular attention to the circumstances of the text's creation, the types of Enlightenment comedies, as well as the culture of the théâtre de société and masquerades. In addition, the affiliation of The Beads to sentimental and romantic literature is considered, thus highlighting the problem of the drama's positioning in relation to literary movements and periods.

Teacher presence in EFL-learners’ (re-)creation of text for literary text comprehension

In anglophone countries, creative writing as an established university course of studies aims at preparing budding authors for their future profession. Creative writing in the context of teaching English as a foreign language at school in Germany is related to the methodological principles of action- and production-orientation. The latter focus on the learners’ response to literary texts thereby allowing them to combine literary text analysis and creative alternations of the texts under discussion. The question arises as to what aspects of a teacher’s presence in an EFL-classroom facilitate pupils’ creating imaginative texts of their own. Moreover, if the texts created by EFL-learners are designed to be performed, the teacher’s presence directing their pupils from written productions to oral performances needs further substantiating. In this paper, it is claimed that the success of creative writing and performing the texts pro­duced largely depends upon the English language teacher’s presence vis-à-vis subject matter knowledge, classroom management, and rapport to their pupils. In this way, teachers make their learners experience creative writing not only as a form of com­prehending literary texts, but also as a way to help students reflect upon their roles as writers, learners, and performers of English as a foreign language.

Evolution and future directions of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC): A comprehensive review

Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) has rapidly evolved, revolutionizing the creation of text, images, audio, and video content. Despite these advancements, research on the development process of AIGC technology remains scarce, necessitating a systematic discussion of its current state and future directions. So this paper delves into the significant advancements and foundational technologies driving AIGC, emphasizing the contributions of state-of-the-art models such as DALL-E 3 [1] and Sora [2]. We analyze the evolution of generative models from single-modal approaches to the current multimodal generative models. The paper further explores the application prospects of AIGC across various domains such as office work, art, education, and film, while addressing the existing limitations and challenges in the field. We propose potential improvement directions, including more efficient model architectures and enhanced multimodal capabilities. Emphasis is placed on the environmental impact of AIGC technologies and the need for sustainable practices. Our comprehensive review aims to provide researchers and professionals with a deeper understanding of AIGC, inspiring further exploration and innovation in this transformative domain.

Appreciation, Analysis and Creation in the Teaching-learning of the Plastic Arts

Aim. The Didactics of the Plastic Education is necessarily nourished by the general didactics and the arts, as well as by their particular methodologies, in aspects related to the teaching-learning of the textual analysis, and specifically, the study of the visual code (iconic and visual signs, tropes or rhetorical figures, etc.), which dialogues with theory, semiotics, cultural anthropology, among other sciences. Methods. In academic research, methods such as the analysis of the results of pedagogical activity, ethnographic or experiential and inductive-deductive methods were used. Results. The Didactics of a Plastic Education requires an urgent review that includes, from its most general principles and laws, to the aspects related to the selection and sequencing of content, the role of the student's plastic education in achieving a social model, the distinctions between artistic education, aesthetic education and teaching of the plastic arts in all the integrality and complexity of their discourses, the teaching-learning process, its essence and contradictions, the categorical system of the teaching-learning process, among other fundamental aspects. The present study contributes to this rethinking of the theoretical and methodological postulates of the Didactics of Plastic Education, as it proposes as an objective: to argue the didactic principle of the unity between appreciation, analysis and textual creation in the teaching-learning process of the visual image analysis. Conclusion. This argument constitutes a theoretical contribution to the science, and clarifies, while unifying, criteria and procedures in the pedagogical practice of artists, teachers, instructors and masters of the plastic arts.

The article is devoted to one of the urgent problems of teaching Kyrgyz language and Kyrgyz literature - the problem of speech culture. At present the oral and written speech skills of schoolchildren do not meet the requirements, the main reasons for this are related to the fact that teachers do not know the concepts of "Speech Culture" and "Speech Culture of Students". In the article the given concepts and terms are analyzed from philosophical, psychological and pedagogical aspects and the essence of the problem is revealed on the basis of the works of linguists such as Akishina А. A, Golovin B.N., Goldin V.E., Ladyzhenskaya T.A, Davletov S., Musaev S.J.and so on. Speech culture is the construction of oral and written speech using linguistic means, the creation of text, it is through this speech that people communicate with other people, and later with society as a whole. To do this, in a modern school, one of the main requirements is to increase the linguistic and communicative competence of students. Speech culture is a phenomenon related to the age characteristics of the speaker or writer, psychology, the situation at the moment, the perception and understanding of the topic by students, the vocabulary they can use, themselves and the style of the text. The student's speech culture will directly depend on his perception of the world, his emotional feelings, his aesthetic tastes, and this is exactly what happens at the stage of active acceptance in grades 5-8, when we perceive him as an object. The student should not only understand the work being studied from Kyrgyz literature, receive education from it, but also on the basis of this work perceive in his world the richness of his native language, new words, expressions, means of artistic speech, develop a culture of speech and writing. Philosophie de l’hétérogénéité : échoïsation des langues dans la création littéraire

Philosophy of Heterogeneity: Echoization of languages in literary creation This article aims to analyse, from a poetic and philosophical perspective, heterolingual practices, or even the intersection of several semiological systems in the same text. In her book entitled Heidegger questions, stimmung, translation, poetry (2010), Éliane Escoubas shows that from 1935, the German philosopher Martin Heidegger began a study on the poetic work of Hölderlin which led him to conceive the act of translation from a broad perspective, not only the internal movement of thought but also that of the development and creation of languages and texts. A new path is then inaugurated in the history of thought as translation. This is highlighted in order to show the originality of the work of “translating” by designing language, shaping speech and forming the body of languages or even writing itself. To better understand this phenomenon, we rely on some reflections and practices that relate to the Maghrebi cultural field. From this perspective, it quickly becomes apparent that the translation paradigm should necessarily figure at the heart of any somewhat coherent critical reflection on the “Text”. In the context of literary creation, the act of translation does not concern questions linked to the comparison between the original and its translation(s). On the other hand, it will be a question of accounting for the writing when it is a translation, not having an original work of reference. This is, obviously, an approach which attempts to radically break with a certain tradition of Algerian criticism which often persists in considering the issues of poetic activity in the Maghrebi literary fields from an essentially (socio)linguistic angle. To reduce a text to its geographical or socio-cultural origin is to refuse to consider the deep complexity of linguistic processes and their historical development, but above all, it is to constantly force the writer into a monolingualism which now seems a conception which denies the interaction of different semiological systems within the same language.

Formation of Text Creation Skills in Students at Primary Level of Education

The article presents the results of a research carried out with students at primary level of education. The object of the research is the education of mother tongue. The subject is the process of formation and development of students’ skills to retell a story and text creation. Approbation of the suggested graphical models is realized through the Neurographica method. Graphical models are used in Bulgarian language and literature lessons. Students draw models of the narrative, before writing the text. As a result, they have visual support when creating the text. Analysis of the data shows various benefits of using graphical models for development of students’ communicative speech competence. The results of the study show a significant improvement of students’ writing skills. Among the skills which students improve best, are: to retell the episodes of the story in their chronological order, to build a coherent composition of the text and logical connection between the sentences, better graphical design of the text, etc.

Transcribing Medieval Manuscripts for Machine Learning

This article focuses on the transcription of medieval manuscripts. Whereas problems of transcription have long interested medievalists, few workable options in the era of printed editions were available besides normalisation. The automation of this process, known as handwritten text recognition (HTR), has made new kinds of digital text creation possible, but also has foregrounded the necessity of theorising transcription in our scholarly practices. We reflect here on different notions of transcription against the backdrop of changing text technologies. Moreover, drawing on our own research on medieval Latin Bibles, we present general guidelines for customizing transcription schemes, arguing that they must be designed with specific research questions and scholarly end use in mind. Since we are particularly interested in the scribal contribution to the production of codices, our transcription guidelines aim to capture abbreviations and orthographic variation between different textual witnesses for downstream machine learning tasks. In the final section of the article, we discuss a few examples of how the HTR-created transcriptions allow us to address new questions at scale in medieval manuscripts, such as textual variance across witnesses, the prediction of a change in scribal hands within a single manuscript as well as the profiling of individual and regional scribal characteristics.

Interpretation of the Tiger Trappers Novel by Ivan Bahrianyi in the Ukrainian Cinematography of the 1990s and Musical Theatre of the 2020s

Attention is paid in the article to the landmark event of modern Ukrainian culture – the book celebrating its anniversary in 2024 – Ivan Bahrianyi’s novel the Tiger Trappers and the rethinking, interpretation of this work in the modern Ukrainian artistic space, in particular in cinematographic and theatrical texts. This year, 80 years have passed since the world saw the adventure work with autobiographical elements, which resonated not only at home, but also abroad. And this is not surprising, because Tiger Trappers has been translated into many languages of the world and had a circulation of over a million copies. Ivan Bahrianyi has submitted to a wide audience a very Ukrainian in spirit and worldview action, which even today in the 21st century is able to interest young people with its truthfulness and insight, its thirst and desire for freedom. The film version of the Tiger Trappers novel, which has appeared in 1994 at the Ukrtelefilm studio is analysed in the investigation. A well-known figure of Ukrainian culture Rostyslav Synko is a director and screenwriter of the film. The film text is based on the original source, but there are also differences those testify not only to another time period, the other era in which the film was shot, but also to certain new accents, a new vision, a reinterpretation of Ivan Bahrianyi’s novel about the young aviator Hryhorii Mnohohrishnyi. According to the plan of the author of the film story has another name. He is called Andrii Chumak in the film. There are also the other details those differ in the novel and in the fictional strip of the same name. And this is quite natural, because it is about the author’s interpretation, reinterpretation of a well-known work. The film of the same name also draws the viewer’s attention to the two Ukraines of the main characters: to the distant, dreamed-of real Ukraine with Golden-topped Kyiv and to the Second Ukraine, which immigrants, exiles from their native land, have built for them in the Far East in the bloody 20th century. In our time, this motif acquires new shades, because again, already in the 21st century, there are Ukrainian immigrants, again there are people who are forced to seek refuge all over the world, escaping from the terrible Russian invasion. Will new immigrants be able to find their Second Ukraine? Will they be able to return to their homeland? Life will show... The interpretation of the novel in modern Ukrainian musical theater is considered. Last year the musical Tiger Trappers directed by Serhii Pavliuk has been released basing on the novel of the same name by Ivan Bahrianyi. This fact, without exaggeration, has become a landmark artistic event, which has success with the audience and favourable reviews of critics. It is emphasized in the article that when we see a finished cultural product of the Ukrainian artistic space, whether it is a film or a theatrical production, a musical, etc., based on a certain work of fiction, we realize that this is already an interpretation, a reinterpretation. So, we are already talking about the creation of a new cultural text – a film text, a theatrical text, a musical text, etc. The significance of modern theater and film art is understood. It is claimed that the mission of art today is exactly rehabilitation through art. An artistic product should give hope, show a happy version of the course of events. Faith in the victory of good over evil, glorification of love that does not pass away – all this should be present in modern theatrical, musical and film texts today. After all, there is a demand for such cultural products in the modern time slice of the 2020s.

Tibetan Buddhism: artistic, literary, and social legacy

Since the 7th century, Tibetan culture and society have been profoundly influenced by Buddhism. This paper aims to explore how Buddhism has shaped Tibetan aesthetics, music, literature, and social structures and to understand its enduring role in Tibetan identity and history. Employing a qualitative research methodology that includes historical analysis, textual interpretation, and ethnographic studies, the paper investigates the development of a unique Tibetan aesthetic tradition, the establishment of monasteries and the monastic system, and the translation and creation of Buddhist texts. Findings reveal that Buddhism has significantly impacted Tibetan art by fostering the creation of intricate religious art forms like thangkas and mandalas, which are central to Tibetan Buddhist practice and reflect a profound spiritual connection between art and religion. The influence of Buddhism on Tibetan literature is evident in the rich body of original, translated, and adapted texts that have shaped Tibetan literary culture and transmitted Buddhist values and philosophies. Furthermore, Buddhism's centrality in Tibetan society is underscored by the establishment of monasteries and the monastic system, which have been pivotal in preserving Tibetan heritage and culture, providing essential services, and acting as beacons of learning and compassion within the community. The paper recommends further research into the specific ways Buddhist philosophy has influenced Tibetan art and music, the impact of various Buddhist canonical texts on Tibetan literature, and the continuing influence of Buddhism on modern Tibetan society.

Evaluating emotional and subjective responses in synthetic art-related dialogues: A multi-stage framework with large language models

The appearance of Large Language Models (LLM) has implied a qualitative step forward in the performance of conversational agents, and even in the generation of creative texts. However, previous applications of these models in generating dialogues neglected the impact of ‘hallucinations’ in the context of generating synthetic dialogues, thus omitting this central aspect in their evaluations. For this reason, we propose an open-source and flexible framework called GenEvalGPT framework: a comprehensive multi-stage evaluation strategy utilizing diverse metrics. The objective is two-fold: first, the goal is to assess the extent to which synthetic dialogues between a chatbot and a human align with the specified commands, determining the successful creation of these dialogues based on the provided specifications; and second, to evaluate various aspects of emotional and subjective responses. Assuming that dialogues to be evaluated were synthetically produced from specific profiles, the first evaluation stage utilizes LLMs to reconstruct the original templates employed in dialogue creation. The success of this reconstruction is then assessed in a second stage using lexical and semantic objective metrics. On the other hand, crafting a chatbot’s behaviors demands careful consideration to encompass a diverse range of interactions it is meant to engage in. Synthetic dialogues play a pivotal role in this context, as they can be deliberately synthesized to emulate various behaviors. This is precisely the objective of the third stage: evaluating whether the generated dialogues adhere to the required aspects concerning emotional and subjective responses. To validate the capabilities of the proposed framework, we applied it to recognize whether the chatbot exhibited one of two distinct behaviors in the synthetically generated dialogues: being emotional and providing subjective responses, or remaining neutral. This evaluation will encompass traditional metrics and automatic metrics generated by the LLM. In our use case of art-related dialogues, our findings reveal that the capacity to recover templates or profiles is more effective for information or profile items that are objective and factual, in contrast to those related to mental states or subjective facts. For the emotional and subjective behavior assessment, rule-based metrics achieved a 79% of accuracy in detecting emotions or subjectivity (anthropic), and an 82% on the LLM automatic metrics. The combination of these metrics and stages could help to decide which of the generated dialogues should be maintained depending on the applied policy, which could vary from preserving between 57% to 93% of the initial dialogues.

Two-phase creative texts as a new genre of congratulatory discourse

This article describes a new genre of congratulatory discourse two-phase creative texts. It analyzes the texts of modern greeting cards, as well as texts on bento cakes and substantiates the legitimacy of identifying this genre, taking into account a number of genre-forming features. We claim that the text of a creative greeting card has moved from paper to a confectionery product, that is, the creative greeting card (literally and figuratively) is now the cake and its packaging. The article proves that two-phase creative texts have a special structure they are parceled and placed on different surfaces, that is, locally separated, due to which a two-stage perception of the text occurs. This structure increases the pragmatic potential of texts of this genre and determines the mechanism of their linguistic creativity. The functional feature of these texts is their pronounced humorous dominant, colloquial nature, playfully ironic tone, unpredictability of the second part semantics of the text, which affects its stylistic characteristics. Two-phase creative texts are also characterized by precedent. The article connects the emergence of two-phase creative texts with the development of congratulatory discourse and the strengthening of the mass linguistic creativity role in modern society.

Креативность прецедентов: от слова к тексту. Границы актуализации (на материале английского и русского языков)

The aim of the study is to describe the ways of creating precedents in language, the possibilities of their realization, characteristic of ethnic language and culture. The article considers the situations of using precedent units in speech communication on the material of English and Russian languages. The analysis of the use of precedent units revealed the creative potential of the phenomenon of precedence and identified a number of opportunities for further study of the phenomenon in the activity aspect. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the fact that for the first time creative possibilities of precedent language units are considered within the framework of the system-activity approach to the study of speech communication in linguistic, cognitive and communicative dimensions. As a result of the study it was established that the creative process of making a precedent unit is an individual cognitive-communicative activity of each of the communicators. Highly communicative communicators are most active in the generation of creative texts; precedence in speech is justified by the framework of conjugation of cognitive activity, communicative activity of the author and cognitive activity, communicative activity of the recipient of speech communication.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CAREFUL LEARNING IN THE FORMATION OF STUDENTS' OFFICE MANAGEMENT SKILLS IN THE STATE LANGUAGE

The article discusses the problems associated with the development of students' office management skills in the state language, the analysis of factors, means, speech situations that cause them, as well as the development of proposals to solve these problems. Dual Education describes the problems faced by text creation and the practical results that do not meet the established requirements.
