Digital technology development and convergence within the ICT field has led to increased significance of technology platforms and ecosystems organizing around them. Even the corporate IT systems are migrated more and more to the cloud platforms. The current explosive growth of artificial intelligence and big data utilization will accelerate that trend also for the industrial value network partners, where the amount of data produced, and low latency requirements force the processing more towards the edge of the cloud. Utilizing technology platform analyses, theory of technology and market disruptions, Value Capture Model, and scenario building, this study investigates Industry 4.0 drivers towards generic digital platforms and ecosystems, and the scenarios to which this development can lead. In addition, the strategic position of different kind of players related to the presented scenarios are examined. The perspectives provided in this study help the players in directing their strategic cooperation and competition efforts in the current early phase of the Industry 4.0 ecosystems formation.
