Purpose - to analyze the nature of nutrition and eating behavior in adolescents with obesity in order to improve the management of this category of patients. Materials and methods. A total of 140 adolescents were examined. The main clinical group included 108 adolescents aged 12-17 years with obesity (body mass index (BMI) ≥95th percentile); the control group included 32 healthy adolescents (BMI 5-85th percentile) of the same age. The survey plan included a set of standard clinical and anamnestic studies, including the study of eating behavior, and laboratory and instrumental studies. To study the nature and diet, a questionnaire developed on the basis of the «Institute of Children and Adolescent Health Care of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine» was used. The study of eating behavior (EВ) in adolescents was carried out using the Dutch Questionnaire (DEBQ, The Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire). Statistical analysis was performed using the software STATISTICA 6.0. FOR WINDOWS (StatSoft Inc.). Pearson's Chi-square test (χ2) and Fisher's exact test (F) were used to compare the frequency indices of independent groups. To assess the direction, strength, and significance of the relationship between the studied characteristics, a correlation analysis was used to determine the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. The critical level of statistical significance for testing hypotheses is p<0.05. Results. Adolescents with obesity were significantly more likely to have eating disorders, as well as the habit of snacking on sweets and sweets during the day and late dinner compared with the control group (p<0.001). It was found that obese patients significantly more often used sweets, sweets, fast food, chips, croutons every day or several times a week compared to the examined control group (p<0.05). In the course of the correlation analysis, the interdependence between the increase in the frequency of consumption of sweets, meat, sausages, sweet carbonated drinks, fast food and the increase in anthropometric indicators associated with obesity (BMI, waist circumference and hip circumference) was established; between an increase in the frequency of consumption of sugary carbonated drinks, sausages and an increase in the size of the liver, between a greater frequency of consumption of fruits and a lower level of triglycerides and very low density lipid cholesterol (p<0.05). Analysis of the results of the DEBQ survey showed that more than 70% of obese patients had a restrictive violation of the EB, with a lesser frequency of external (43.8%) and emotiogenic (39.3%) type of EB in contrast to the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions. The study revealed the problem of unbalanced nutrition in adolescents, which also manifested itself in the form of eating disorders. The research was carried out in accordance with the principles of the Helsinki Declaration. The study protocol was approved by the Local Ethics Committee of the participating institution. The informed consent of the patient was obtained for conducting the studies. No conflict of interests was declared by the authors.

Socio Economic Factors Associated with Prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases Among Adults In Punjab, Pakistan

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes are leading causes of global mortality and disability. Addressing the impact of NCDs aligns with sustainable development goals. Objective: The objective of this paper is to use individual data to investigate the risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among adults in Pakistan. Study Design: Questionnaire-based cross-sectional study. Settings: A sample of 376 patients was selected using a single population proportion due to a lack of data. Participants were chosen through consecutive sampling in three cities: Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Layyah Pakistan. Duration: Over 14 months. Methods: Descriptive and multinomial logistic regression analyses were conducted to assess the relationship between various factors and the prevalence of specific non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Results: This study seeks to identify NCD determinants to inform effective prevention and intervention strategies. Age emerges as a primary predictor, with individuals aged 36–55 and above exhibiting higher odds of NCD prevalence than those under 35. Gender also matters, as females have a higher likelihood of NCDs. Urban living is linked to elevated NCD risk due to sedentary lifestyles. Income shows a positive association with NCD susceptibility, although it decreases at higher levels. Smoking, excessive caffeinated or carbonated drink consumption and eating out elevate NCD risk. Conversely, consuming fruits and vegetables, engaging in physical activity, and getting sufficient sleep lower susceptibility. A positive family NCD history increases the likelihood of experiencing NCDs. Conclusion: These findings underscore the need for comprehensive policy interventions to alleviate the NCD burden. Addressing modifiable risk factors like smoking and unhealthy diets is critical. Public awareness, community engagement, and regulatory measures are recommended. Collaborative efforts across sectors are essential for promoting health and preventing NCDs, while also addressing disparities and healthcare access. Overall, this study offers valuable insights for effective NCD combat strategies.

Effect of the nutrition violation on the of development of functional gastrointestinal disorders in school-age children

Nutrition is one of the important risk factors for the occurrence of functional gastrointestinal disorders in children (FGID).
 Objective — to study the nutrition violations in children with FGID.
 Materials and methods. Observation involved 110 children with FGID aged 6 to 18 years. The patients were divided into two groups: I study group included 44 children with an overlap of functions dyspepsia (FD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The II study group consisted of 66 pediatric patients with FD. The control group consisted of 30 healthy children. The diagnosis of functional dyspepsia and IBS was established based on the clinical symptoms according to the Rome IV criteria (2016). To detect violations in the nutritional regimen and food preferences of schoolchildren, a questionnaire survey was performed with the use of the Youth Adolescent Food Frequency Questionnaire, adapted to the model of children’s nutrition in Ukraine.
 Results. The frequency of violations in the nutritional regimen, such as refusal of breakfast or a full lunch at school, reducing the daily frequency of meals, was higher in children with FGID than in healthy children. The violations of nutrition in children with overlapping FD and IBS was observed more often than in children with FD. The frequency of consumption of vegetables, cereals and grains was lower in children with FGID, and the consumption of meat, sausages and confectionery, fast food, chips, nuts and seeds, energetics and sweet carbonated beverages was higher than in healthy children. In children with overlapping FD and IBS, the frequency of consumption of vegetables, cereals and grains is lower, and the consumption of confectionery, fast food, energetics, and sweet carbonated drinks was higher than in children with FD.
 Conclusions. Violations of the regimen and quality of nutrition is a risk factor for the formation of FGIR in children and should be considered in the treatment.

Association between the anthropometric measurements and dietary habits on telomere shortening in healthy older adults: A-cross-sectional study.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of anthropometric measurements and dietary habits on telomere length in healthy older residents in rural and urban areas. This was a cross-sectional study. The study population included 81 healthy older individuals aged ≥80 years. A quantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to determine dietary habits. Anthropometric measurements were taken by researchers. The telomere length of individuals was determined from leukocytes using quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Urban women had longer telomeres than rural women (P < 0.05). Rural men had significantly higher hip circumference, middle-upper arm circumference and fat-free mass than urban men (P < 0.05). It was shown that while fresh vegetable consumption was higher in rural areas, carbonated drink consumption was higher in urban areas (P < 0.05). In women, homemade bread and sugar consumption were higher in rural areas, and honey consumption was higher in urban (P < 0.05). Red meat, milk-based dessert and pastry consumption explain telomere shortening by 22.5%, 24.8% and 17.9%, respectively. In addition, the model based on anthropometric measurements also contributes to explaining telomere shortening by 42.9%. Red meat, milk-based dessert and pastry consumption, and waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio and waist-to-height ratio are associated with telomere length. Longer telomeres are associated with a healthy, balanced, adequate diet and maintaining a healthy body weight/proportion, and they are crucial for achieving healthy aging. Readiness to Refrain from Carbonated Drinks among High School Female Students: The Transtheoretical Model of Change as a Theoretical Framework

Objective: This study is a part of randomized controlled trial. This study aims to identify high school female students’ readiness to refrain from carbonated drinks. Method: The study included a simple random sample of 144 high school female students who were recruited from Al-Russafa High School for females in Baghdad City. The study instrument consists of participants’ sociodemographic characteristics of age, living arrangement, and family’s socioeconomic status, Stages of Change for Carbonated Drinks Consumption Behavior Scale (Short Form), Stages of Change for Carbonated Drinks Consumption Behavior Scale (Continuous Measure), The Processes of Change for Carbonated Drinks Consumption Behavior Scale, The Self-Efficacy for Carbonated Drinks Consumption Behavior Scale which includes 18 Decisional Balance Scale for Carbonated Drinks Consumption Behavior. Data were analyzed using the statistical package for social science (SPSS) for Windows, version 26. Results: More than half are in the Precontemplation Stage of Change (n = 84; 58.3%), followed by those who are in the Preparation Stage of Change (n = 30; 20.8%), those who are in the Contemplation Stage of Change (n = 28; 19.5%), and those who are in the Maintenance Stage of Change (n = 2; 1.4%).The regression model displays that the family’s socioeconomic status, Self-Liberation, and students’ age positively predicted the Stages of Change to refrain from carbonated drinks (p-value = .004, .009, 035) respectively. Conclusion: The regression model displayed that Self-Liberation and students’ age positively predicted the Stages of Change to refrain from carbonated drinks. Components of a healthy lifestyle among tertiary students in Kemerovo

Highlights. The results of an online survey of Kemerovo students regarding nutrition, physical activity, smoking, drinking alcohol, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are presented.University students do not always follow the principles of healthy living due to poor nutrition, low physical activity and high consumption of tobacco and alcohol products.Aim. To evaluate dietary habits and modifiable cardiovascular risk factors in tertiary students in Kemerovo.Methods. The pilot study included 136 university students (aged 20-21 years) residing in Kemerovo who filled out online questionnaires. The questionnaires were comprised of questions about the preferred diet, lifestyle, level of physical activity, the presence of behavioral risk factors for non-communicable diseases (smoking, drinking alcohol). Additionally, the respondents` subjective opinion about their own healthy lifestyle (HLS) was evaluated.Results. The obtained data demonstrates a high prevalence of meat and sausage consumption (60%) and a low frequency of vegetables and fruits consumption (26%) among tertiary students. Simultaneously, most of the respondents have restricted the intake of savory snacks and consumption of sweet carbonated drinks. Almost a third of students skip breakfast and regularly visit fast food restaurants. Most of the respondents do not consider replacing red meat with fish or poultry, or using more low-fat dairy products and fruits instead of confectionery in their diet. A third of young people (33%) aged 20-21 have smoked or are currently smoking cigarettes, and more than half (63%) have consumed or regularly consume alcohol. Moreover, a very low percentage of students (7%) devote their time to regular physical activity. The analysis of the respondents` subjective opinion of their lifestyle has revealed that most students do not fully comprehend the concepts of “healthy lifestyle” and “healthy diet”, because their answers did not meet the criteria of healthy lifestyle. Only 57.7% of respondents who believe their lifestyle to be healthy are actually correct.Conclusion. Tertiary students in Kemerovo do not always follow the rules of healthy lifestyle. It has been illustrated by their poor nutrition, low physical activity and frequent alcohol and tobacco use. Students associate healthy diet exclusively with not consuming sugary drinks, savory snacks, fast food, and having proper breakfast, which could be caused by the lack of general knowledge about a proper balanced diet.

Associations between dietary factors and periodontal status among 12-year-old children in Arkhangelsk region

Nutrition is an important determinant of human health particularly in childhood since dietary habits and metabolic patterns are formed during this period of life. Certain nutritional factors may increase the risk for periodontal diseases (PD). Considering the associations between periodontal health and cardiovascular diseases, studies on the associations between nutritional factors and periodontal diseases are of particular importance. The aim of the research was to study the patterns of consumption of certain foods associated with oral health according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and to assess the associations between these factors and PD among 12-year-old children in Arkhangelsk region of Russian Federation. Material and methods. In total, 1162 12-year-old children from 7 urban and 5 rural settings of Arkhangelsk region participated in a cross-sectional study. Dental status was assessed as recommended by the WHO (2013). To assess the periodontal status of a child, a communal periodontal index was used, which included 2 indicators: the presence of bleeding during probing and calculus. A WHOdeveloped questionnaire was used to study nutritional patterns related to oral health. Associations between socio-demographic factors and patterns of consumption of selected food items were assessed using Person's chi-squared tests. Associations between periodontal disease, bleeding, calculus, and nutritional factors were studied by multivariable logistic regression. Relationships between the number of affected sextans and frequency of consumption of selected foods was assessed using multivariable Poisson regression models. Results. More frequent consumption of sweet carbonated drinks was associated with male sex, rural living, and low educational levels of both parents. Higher levels of education for both mother and father were associated with more frequent consumption of fresh fruit (p=0.011 and p=0.002). The prevalence of dental calculus and the number of affected sextants with calculus were inversely related to the frequency of fresh fruit consumption (p=0.012 and p<0.001, respectively). The number of sextants with calculus and PD in general were inversely associated with the frequency of consumption of homemade jam and honey (p=0.036 and p=0.043, respectively). Conclusion. The frequency of consumption of the foods affecting oral health was significantly associated with socio-demographic factors in Arkhangelsk region. Daily consumption of fresh fruits was associated with lower prevalence of calculus. The lowest number of affected sextants with bleeding, calculus, and PD was revealed when homemade jams or honey was consumed at least once a week, but less than every day.

Prevalence and risk factors for chronic kidney disease in Indonesia: An analysis of the National Basic Health Survey 2018.

BackgroundThe prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Indonesia is rising, but the exact extent of the burden of CKD in Indonesia is unknown. To design a screening program for individuals at high-risk, more knowledge is required regarding the prevalence and risk factors of CKD in Indonesia. The latter could have a big impact on the prevention and management of patients with CKD in Indonesia.MethodsFor this purpose, we analysed data from The National Basic Health Survey 2018 (Riset Kesehatan Dasar, Riskesdas 2018), a descriptive cross-sectional study in 34 provinces, 416 districts and 98 cities in Indonesia. We included subjects aged ≥18 years and analysed the prevalence of CKD. Using multiple logistic regression, we investigated the association between CKD and potential risk factors such as demographic factors (age, gender, occupational status, level of education), lifestyle and behaviours (consumption of salty food, consumption of fruit and vegetables, smoking, alcohol consumption, carbonated drink consumption, physical activity), comorbid conditions (hypertension, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, hepatitis, stroke, nutritional status) and others (clean water supply, pregnancy complication, access to health care).ResultsWe included 389 093 subjects in this study out of 713 783 subjects that participated in Riskesdas 2018 survey. The prevalence of CKD was 0.5%. The survey included mostly younger adults age 18-59 years (83.1%) with a mean (SD) age of 44.3 (15.1) years. The majority of subjects were female (60.3%), unemployed (58.4%), and the proportion of obese subject was 25.4%. Hypertension was the major comorbid condition (40.8%), while the proportion of diabetes mellitus (DM), heart disease, stroke and hepatitis were quite low (3.3%, 2.6%, 1.7% and 0.5%; respectively). Despite the high proportion of hypertension, only 36.2% of subjects did receive a prescription for anti-hypertensive medication of which only 21.7% used this medication regularly. The multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that hepatitis was the strongest risk factor of CKD (odds ratio (OR) = 3.406; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.496-4.648), exceeding the risk of CKD in patients with physical inactivity (OR = 1.236; 95% CI = 1.128-1.354), low education status (OR = 1.307; 95% CI = 1.191-1.434), male (OR = 1.527; 95% CI = 1.398-1.668), stroke (OR = 1.916; 95% CI = 1.570-2.338), heart disease (OR = 2.941; 95% CI = 2.356-3.671), and DM (OR = 2.462; 95% CI = 1.979-3.063). We also observed that DM (OR = 4.280; 95% CI = 3.756-4.876) and male subjects (OR = 1.474; 95% CI = 1.352-1.606) were identified as independent risk factors for CKD in hepatitis-positive subjects.ConclusionsThis population-based survey confirmed the increasing burden of CKD in Indonesia and suggested that besides traditional metabolic risk factors, viral hepatitis has proven to be an independent risk factor for CKD in Indonesia. Furthermore, the risk of CKD is greater in male hepatitis patients with DM. The result of this study demonstrates the need for an aggressive screening program for patients with a high risk for the development of CKD. Apart from patients with traditional cardiometabolic risk factors, such a program should include patients with viral hepatitis.

Abstract 5943: Association between the consumption of meat and carbonated drinks and early onset gastric cancer in Chilean patients

Abstract Gastric cancer (GC) is the 5th most frequent neoplasm and the 3rd cancer with the highest mortality according to GLOBOCAN. GC is often diagnosed in middle aged and elderly people, with a peak in incidence between 60 and 70 years old. In contrast, early-onset GC is the GC had a strong hereditary component. Associations of sporadic late onset-GC and dietary factors have been published but the role of nutritional factors in early onset GC is unknown. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between the intake of red meat, pork, processed meats and carbonated drinks in a group of early-onset GC. Our study was carried out in 19 Chilean early-onset GC patients, aged between 32 and 60 years, and 32 healthy age matched individuals from the same population. Through a survey of nutritional habits carried out retrospectively considering the stage prior to the diagnosis of GC, we determined the amount, type and frequency of ingestion of red meat, pork, processed meat and carbonated beverages. To measure the association an odds ratio and non-parametric association statistic tests were used. For the association of meat intake, we used the WHO recommendation (less than 70 g of meat per day) to classify the meat consumption levels in both groups. An odds ratio of 25.5 (4.8-135.4, p=8.3x105) was determined between the consumption of more than 70 g of meat per day in the early onset GC group vs the control group. Even though there are no international recommendations for carbonated drinks consumption levels, we found a higher carbonated drink consumption among cases (cases: Ave.= 180,7, SD= ±108,5 vs controls: Ave.=43,3, SD=±38,3. P=0033). In conclusion, our results shows significant associations between the consumption of red meat, pork, processed meats, and carbonated drinks in the risk of early-onset GC patients compared with the control group. Our findings, suggest that nutritional factors could play a role in the early GC presentation, acting in conjunction with low penetrance gene mutations. We will incorporate more early onset patients to the study group and do a sex matching for the control group to evaluate this possible confounding factor. We will also incorporate a late onset GC group. We think that nutritional factors could be an important factor to modulate genetic risk, even in early-onset patients. Factors Affecting Dental Caries Experience in 12-Year-Olds, Based on Data from Two Polish Provinces.

(1) Background: Dental caries is a chronic disease that affects a child’s dentition from the first stages of life. Several factors contribute to the development of the disease, including an improper diet. This cross-sectional study aimed to identify risk factors of dental caries in 12-year-old adolescents from Greater Poland and Lubusz Provinces (Poland). (2) Material and methods: The research was conducted in adolescents from five primary schools. A questionnaire consisted of close-ended questions on socioeconomic characteristics on family, diet, and oral hygiene habits. An assessment of the dentition was carried out in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. In addition to cavitated carious lesions, incipient caries lesions were noted according to the International Caries Detection and Assessment System, adapted for epidemiological studies (ICDASepiDMFt). (3) Results: The mean number of teeth with untreated caries; removed due to caries; and restored because of caries (DMFt) was 1.52 ± 1.90, while the ICDASepiDMFt index amounted to 2.64 ± 2.55, respectively. Children who did not brush every day had significantly higher odds of having ICDASepiDMFt > 0 than children brushing at least once daily (OR = 10.32, 95% CI = 1.36–78.32, p = 0.0240). Adolescents who drank sweet carbonated drinks every day had significantly higher ICDASepiDMTt than children who drank sweet carbonated drinks less frequently (p = 0.0477). (4) Conclusions: The research revealed that dental caries indices of 12-year-old adolescents from Greater Poland and Lubusz Provinces depend mainly on oral hygiene behaviors. The only significant nutritional factor that differentiated the caries intensity was the daily consumption of sweet carbonated drinks.

Caries experience in adolescents 13-14 years with and without erosive tooth wear: a case-control study.

Erosive tooth wear (ETW) and dental caries have common etiological factors, such as unhealthy eating habits, and reduced salivary flow rate. To analyze the association between caries experience (CE) and ETW in adolescents 13-14 years. Ninety-seven cases with distinctive ETW were identified and then sex-matched with a group of 97 controls and a group of 97 cases with initial ETW. The variables included were CE, presence of debris/dental calculus, salivary parameters, food and beverage consumption, chewable vitamin C tablet consumption, gastroesophageal reflux, frequent vomiting, and tooth brushing. Multinomial logistic regression models were adjusted. An association was found between cases with a distinctive ETW defect and CE (OR = 1.09 (95% CI: 1.01-1.17); p = 0.020), sweet carbonated drinks consumption (OR = 1.16 (95% CI: 1.03-1.31); p = 0.012), and frequent vomiting (OR = 3.19 (95% CI: 1.02-10.01); p = 0.047). The preventive management of both ETW and dental caries should aim to reduce exposure to foods and beverages with high acid and sugar content. Given the association between ETW and acid attack by gastric juice, this would be an indicator of the need for referral to a specialist for treatment.

The European Food Regulatory Environment Index: a tool to monitor progress in implementing food environment policies.

BackgroundEvidence based health policy, such as that put forward in the European Food and Nutrition Action Plan 2015–2020 and the WHO Global Action Plan on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases, has a role in curbing the consumption of unhealthful foods and drink. We ask how countries are performing in the adoption of these policies and how the comprehensiveness of their food environment policies explains variations in consumption of unhealthful products across Europe.MethodsIn order to assess the state of policy adoption, we developed a composite indicator—the Food Regulatory Environment Index (FREI) for which we calculated unweighted and weighted formulations according to the strength of the evidence base. We used linear regression models to explain variations in the consumption of unhealthful products as well as variations in a composite indicator of obesogenic diets.ResultsOverall, wealthier countries in the Region perform better. The weighting of the constituent policies does not affect the rankings. We find negative associations between unweighted and weighted formulations of the Index and household consumption of sugary and carbonate drinks as well as with the composite indicator for obesogenic diets.ConclusionsThe main strength of this study is the comprehensiveness and comparability of the policy data across the relatively large number of countries covered. There is a negative association that is statistically significant, between all formulations of the FREI and the household consumption of sugary and carbonated drinks. There is also a negative association between some FREI formulations and obesogenic diets.

Bisphenol A Exposure in Exclusively Breastfed Infants and Lactating Women: An Observational Cross-sectional Study

Objective:Bisphenol A (BPA) is a known endocrine disruptor and free BPA will interact with estrogen. BPA is also fat soluble and will therefore contaminate breast milk. The European Food Safety Authority has set a limit for temporary tolerable daily intake of 4 μg/kg body weight/day in breastfeeding infants. The aim of this study was to measure human milk BPA concentrations in Turkish women and thus exclusively breastfed infants’ exposure to BPA.Methods:Healthy, postnatal, exclusively breastfeeding women were recruited and breast milk samples were collected. Free BPA concentration was analyzed in the milk samples using competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Participants’ demographic characteristics and nutritional habits were investigated through face-to-face interviews using a detailed questionnaire.Results:Eighty women participated. Median milk free BPA level was 0.63 μg/L. There was no statistically significant association between maternal body mass index, birth type, parity, infant birth week, infant birth weight, and human milk BPA concentration. Nevertheless, there was a significant association between human milk BPA level and consumption of fast-food and carbonated drinks (p=0.022 and p=0.018, respectively). Exclusively breastfed infants’ mean BPA exposure was 0.0099±0.0079 μg/kg bw/day. There was a moderate negative significant correlation between infant BPA exposure and infant current body weight (r=0.327, p=0.003).Conclusion:BPA exposure in exclusively breastfed infants was within accepted limits and the current dietary exposure level of infants in this cohort was safe.

Dietary Behavior of Adolescents in the Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia: A Comparison between Cities with and without the Healthy Cities Program.

This study reports dietary behaviors of adolescents in the Qassim region, Saudi Arabia, and comparison of these behaviors between cities with and without the Healthy Cities Program (HCP). We surveyed 1133 school-attending adolescents aged 15–19, using a multi-staged cluster sampling with probability proportionate to size. Prevalence of daily breakfast consumption was 27.7% among the adolescents. Prevalence of daily vegetables, fruits and milk or milk products consumption was 35.9%, 28.6% and 51.1%, respectively. Meanwhile, the prevalence of daily consumption of fast-food and carbonated drinks was 7.5% and 37.1%, respectively. There was no significant association between living in the healthy cities and daily intake of breakfast (OR: 1.15, 95% CI: 0.87–1.53), fruits (OR: 1.02; 95% CI: 0.77–1.36), vegetables (OR: 1.27; 95% CI: 0.98–1.67), or milk/milk products (OR: 1.0; 95% CI: 0.77–1.29); and the daily intake of fast-food (OR: 0.81; 95% CI: 0.49–1.35) or carbonated drinks (OR: 0.80; 95% CI: 0.60–1.05). These findings warrant further in-depth evaluation of the HCP in the Qassim region of Saudi Arabia.

Factors related to dietary habits, energy drink consumption, and physical activity in marginalized Palestinian schools: A cross-sectional study.

Background: The current study assessed different dietary habits, energy drinks intake, body mass index (BMI) and physical activity and associated factors among Palestinian adolescents attending marginalized schools. Methods: A cross-sectional study targeted a random sample of 1480 students in the sixth andninth grades attending 20 marginalized public schools in the West Bank area of the occupied Palestinian Territories (oPt). Students were interviewed in-person by trained senior dental students about their dietary habits, physical activity, fathers’ employment and mothers’ level of education. Weight and height were measured, and BMI percentile was calculated. Descriptive statistics were generated for the study’s main variables and the dependent variables were compared by grade, gender, mothers’ level of education and father’s employment. Results: A total of 1282 students (98% response) completed the questionnaire. Of them, 6% were ‘underweight’ (fifth percentile or under) and 34% were ‘overweight’ or ‘obese’ (85thpercentile or over). Ninth graders had more added sugar than 6th graders (P=0.002), less frequent milk consumption (P<0.001), more frequent energy drink consumption (P=0.001),and less physical activity (P<0.0001). Frequency of carbonated and sweetened drink consumption was associated with being overweight or obese (P=0.016, P=0.001). Frequency of carbonated drinks consumption was higher among children of mothers with a high school level of education or less (P<0.001). In addition, children of mothers educated to high school level or below were associated with being underweight (P=0.05). Conclusion: Dietary habits and physical activity get worse between the ages of 12 and 15. Mothers’ level of education is an important factor in being overweight or underweight. Energy drink consumption among boys and milk consumption among girls are two challenges that need to be addressed urgently and adequately.

Bisphenol A Exposure On Exclusively Breastfed Infants In Lactating Women: An Observational Cross-Sectional Study

Bisphenol A exposure is crucial for lactating women and exclusively breastfed infants. Bisphenol A transfers directly by breastfeeding and may cause adverse health outcomes. We conduct this study to determine maternal human milk bisphenol A level and exclusively breastfed infants' bisphenol A exposure. We investigated the effect of exposure according to participants' nutritional habits. We enrolled voluntarily, healthy postnatal, exclusively breastfeeding women (n=80) and collected hindmilk samples. Human milk-free bisphenol A concentration was analyzed using a competitive ELISA method. Free (unconjugated) BPA has been detected in human samples indicating that humans are internally exposed to estrogenically active BPA. Participants' demographic properties, nutritional habits were questioned with an elaborated survey face-to-face by the researcher. Human milk median free bisphenol A level is 0.63 µg/L. There was no statistically significant association between maternal body mass index, birth type, parity, infant birth week, infant birth weight, and human milk bisphenol A concentration. Nevertheless, we only found a statistically significant association between human milk bisphenol A level and fast-food, carbonated drinks consumption (p=0.022 and p=0.018, respectively). Exclusively breastfed infants' bisphenol A exposure was 0.0099±0.0079 µg/kg bw/day. There was a negative moderate statistically significant correlation between infant bisphenol A exposure and infant current body weight (r= 0.327, p=0.003). Exclusively breastfed infants bisphenol A exposure was under the tolerable bisphenol A level (4 µg/kg bw/day), and infants' current dietary exposure level was safe.

Frequency of Carbonated Beverage Drinking, Knowledge Regarding its Risks on Health and Association with Bone Mineral Density in Medical Students

Background: The carbonated drink manufacturing companies has set young school/college going children as their primary target customers who are consuming it on daily basis and frequency of drinking vary depending on affordability and need. The consumption of carbonated drink has been increased recently that has led us to think about its unwanted effects on health. It has been identified that consuming more carbonated drinks may cause low bone mineral density.&#x0D; Objectives: To identify the frequency of consumption of carbonated drinks in medical students and to assess the knowledge regarding adverse effects of theses drinks and association of BMD.&#x0D; Methodology: It was a cross sectional study conducted at Baqai Medical University Karachi from May to August 2020. Students of MBBS 4th year and BDS final year were approached, sample size was calculated at 50% precision of total population i.e 100 participants were recruited by convenient sampling from the mentioned classes. Preformed questionnaire was administered to identify the frequency and knowledge regarding the subject and bone mineral density through Single x-ray absorptiometry (SXA).&#x0D; Results: The study participants almost (90%) were aware of the name carbonated drink of, 85.5% were aware regarding the harmful effects, and 75.5% were having knowledge about the ingredients. Majority were aware regarding health related effects but they were not having knowledge about names of the specific diseases. There was no significant (0.079) association between carbonated drink consumption and BMD.&#x0D; Conclusion: Students were aware of health related hazards caused by carbonated drinks there was no association of carbonated drink consumption and BMD.

Lifestyle Behaviour among Undergraduate Medical Students in Tamil Nadu: A Cross-sectional Study

Introduction: Lifestyle related behavioural risk factors such as physical inactivity and nutrition transition like increased consumption of high‑fat and low‑fiber diet are found to be risk factors for Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) worldwide. Medical students are susceptible to poor eating habits, physical inactivity, lack of sleep or acquisition of new habits, such as smoking and alcohol. They have been shown to exhibit early risk factors for chronic diseases. Hence, it is essential to assess the lifestyle behaviour among medical students as they are future healthcare providers. Aim: To assess the lifestyle behaviour among the undergraduate medical students and to compare lifestyle behavioural factors between gender. Materials and Methods: A cross‑sectional study was conducted among 200 undergraduate medical students, selected by using random sampling method from first year to final year of a government medical college in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from June 2018 to August 2018. Self‑administered questionnaire was used to collect data regarding socio‑demographic profile and lifestyle behaviours such as dietary pattern, physical activity, sedentary behaviour, sleep duration, smoking and alcohol consumption. Descriptive statistics for qualitative data and Chi‑square test to test the proportions were used. Results: A total of 200 undergraduate medical students participated in the study. The mean age of the study participants was 20.2 years with a standard deviation of 1.34. Out of the 200 study participants, 132 (66%) were females and 68 (34%) were males. Skipping of meals was seen in 54% students. Vegetables and fruits intake ≤3 times/week were found in 25.5% and 63% students respectively. Smoking was observed in 3% and alcohol intake in 7.5% students. Lack of exercise was noted in 46%. Television viewing/mobile usage for &gt;4 hours per day was observed in 30.5% students. Sleep duration of &lt;6 hours/day was noted in 11%. Frequent carbonated drinks consumption (&gt;3 times/week) was significantly higher in males (14.7%) as compared to females (5.3%). Inadequate exercise was significantly higher in females. Conclusion: Behavioural risk factors such as unhealthy diet, irregular eating habits, and physical inactivity were prevalent among the medical undergraduate students.

Gamified intervention in physical education and consumption of sugary and carbonated drinks in adolescents. Bogotá - colombia

Rationale: Different studies have used gamification in physical education, however, few studies in Colombia show its use to reduce the intake of sugary and carbonated drinks. Objective: to determine the effect of a gamified intervention in the physical education class, for the reduction of the intake of sugary and carbonated drinks, in adolescents from public educational institutions.
