The Challenges of Implementing Building Information Modeling in Indonesia Construction Projects

The future of BIM is exciting and full of challenges, but there are several obstacles to implementing BIM effectively in the construction sector in Indonesia. Thus, the aim of this research is to examine the challenges of implementing BIM on construction projects, especially in Indonesia. Data was obtained from 45 respondents who answered questionnaire questions, including owners, consultants, contractors/subcontractors, private companies and state-owned enterprises representing construction parties in Indonesia. Empirical analysis using the Correlation Coefficient-A Measure of Linier method states that there are seven variables which are challenging variables in implementing BIM in construction projects. The seven challenge variables are BIM technical readiness, organizational paradigm changes regarding BIM, work environment awareness of BIM, compliance on BIM rules, increased competency and skills, consistent application of effective leadership, maturity of BIM utilization. These seven challenge variables have a linear relationship with the application of BIM in Indonesian construction projects. In conclusion, construction project parties in Indonesia must responses positively to these seven challenges to ensure that the implementation of BIM in construction projects in Indonesia is in accordance with the regulations released by the government.

Cost Overrun Factor of Toll Road Project Construction

Results in more than 45 studies of infrastructure projects in 20 countries that ran overestimate. For rail projects, they predict average cost increases of 45%, for fixed-line projects (tunnels and bridges), of 34%, and for highway projects, of 30%. Indonesia is one of the 20 nations on 5 continents where cost overruns are a common occurrence. Cost overruns are one of the problems faced by most construction projects in Indonesia. Unexpected budget cost overruns can create many problems in the project. Therefore, every stakeholder in the project needs to have a good understanding of factors that cause cost overruns to avoid or minimize it risks in the project. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that cause cost overrun on a project and analyze the factors that are most influential on the occurrence of cost overrun on construction projects. This study used a systematic literature review to collect data from previous studies. This study resulted in 6 management elements, consisting of 85 variables identified in this study. 6 management elements factors, including material factors, labor factors, equipment factors, subcontractor factors, financial factors, and external factors. Pemanfaatan Serbuk Kaca Sebagai Peningkatan Waterproofing pada Bahan Tambah Cat

In the construction of a project, walls account for approximately 20% - 40% of the total budget. Wall works are considered costly as they involve various tasks such as brick installation, plastering, rendering, and painting. Nowadays, the use of paint is widespread in line with the development of construction projects in Indonesia. Paint utilization has been extensively developed with various innovations, one of which is waterproofing paint that can protect surfaces from water or moisture. By adding a special ingredient to the paint to enhance its waterproofing properties, wall paint becomes more resistant to rain exposure over time. Therefore, the addition of glass powder to the paint mixture is needed to increase the waterproofing level because glass powder has nonporous characteristics, meaning it does not easily absorb or retain water. The objective of this research is to determine the water resistance of paint with the addition of glass powder at levels of 0%, 2,5%, 5%, 7,5%, and 10% in each 1 kg paint sample. The most optimum paint formulation is achieved by adding a 10% glass powder content, resulting in water leakage test of 0 mL, adhesion test of 5A, water absorption of 6.587%, specific gravity of 2.092 g/mL, coverage of 5.553 m²/Kg, and drying time of 4 minutes. This study aims to contribute to the development of high waterproofing wall paint that is also environmentally friendly.

Sustainability factors of building information modeling (BIM) for a successful construction project management life cycle in Indonesia

Building information modeling (BIM) is an important asset in construction projects from conceptual planning to the preconstruction and operation stages. While many construction projects in developed countries are gradually implementing BIM, the development of this technology in developing countries is still lagging. Some research shows that the application of BIM for certain uses can improve the performance of construction projects, but in Indonesia, its use is still very low. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that can answer the challenges in the sustainability of BIM implementation in construction projects in Indonesia for success in its life cycle. Data were obtained from 44 respondents who answered the questionnaire questions, including owners, supervisory consultants, and contractors representing construction parties in Indonesia. Empirical analysis using multiple linear regression states that there are five factors that, if used to sustainably support the application of BIM, will affect the success of construction project management in its life cycle. The five factors rank as follows based on the results of the analysis: Understanding and Awareness of the importance of BIM; Establishment of BIM standards, codes, rules, and regulations; Competencies and Skills; Commitment and Consistency; and Monitoring and Evaluation. The development of BIM has resulted in new work processes and new ways to interact in construction projects throughout their life cycles.

Analisis Risiko Keselamatan Konstruksi Pada Proyek Rehabilitasi Puskesmas Secang 2 Berdasarkan Sudut Pandang Kontraktor

The accident rate of building construction projects in Indonesia reached 9 cases out of a total of 48 cases (20%) from 2017 to 2022. Out of these, 43 cases were attributed to technical negligence, 4 cases were due to natural factors, and 1 case is currently under investigation. Given the issues related to construction accidents, this research aims to identify construction safety variables that are likely to occur and subsequently conduct a risk level analysis. The research methodology employed is a case study, followed by a risk analysis based on the Ministry of Public Works and Housing Regulation No. 10 of 2021 regarding the Guidelines for Construction Safety Management Systems. The research findings indicate that out of 34 construction safety risk variables, there were 2 hazards (5.88%) classified as high risk (B), 22 hazards (64.71%) classified as medium risk (S), and 10 hazards (29.41%) classified as low risk (K).

Optimizing Human Resource Allocation in Construction Projects in Indonesia: A Comprehensive Analysis of Influencing Factors

The Indonesian construction sector, driven by population density and infrastructure demands, rebounded from a second-quarter 2020 contraction due to COVID-19, completing projects worth Rp1,311.4 trillion in 2020. Human resource (HR) allocation is critical in this labour-intensive industry, as it impacts project efficiency. This study explores factors influencing HR selection and allocation in construction projects, addressing the challenges of HR shortages or excess. A well-planned HR allocation strategy is essential for a successful project completion. This study delves into the relationships between HR factors, cost, and time performance, emphasizing the importance of effective HR management. It introduces hypotheses for investigation and proposes a comprehensive framework for assessing the impacts of HR, cost, and company-related factors on project performance. This research utilized qualitative analysis methodologies and expert validation to refine the instrument for a nuanced understanding of HR dynamics in construction projects. This study aims to obtain expert-validated factors that influence labour selection in construction projects to improve project performance. This study highlights the need for accurate estimation for HR, thorough planning, and implementation of effective HR recruitment policies.

PENGEMBANGAN TEKNOLOGI DIGITAL TERHADAP PEMENUHAN KESELAMATAN KONSTRUKSI DI INDONESIA

It is known that currently digital development is very rapid and has great benefits in helping to make construction work easier and more efficient. With the benefits it has, the construction industry is also not immune from developments in digital technology, such as fulfilling construction safety. Based on Minister of PUPR Regulation No.10/2021, in implementing SMKK it must meet Security, Safety, Health and Sustainability Standards. Fulfillment of these standards ensures construction engineering safety, occupational health and safety, public safety and environmental safety. This study will discuss technological developments towards fulfilling Construction Safety by referring to the substance of the SMKK and K4 Standards that have been established. Based on this, data collection was carried out based on construction projects in Indonesia through scientific journals, proceeding papers, books, and/or related official websites. The data is then processed using descriptive analysis to obtain patterns or descriptions of technological developments related to construction safety in Indonesia. It was concluded that the development of digital technology related to construction safety has been developed and implemented in Indonesia. However, there are still other aspects of construction safety that could be opportunities for further research. There is also limited information regarding the fulfillment of construction safety that can be accessed in general, so further research is needed to find out more comprehensive developments in construction safety technology

Infrastructure is an essential sector in a country, and infrastructure development reflects the country's progress. Infrastructure development is a priority, but the implementation of infrastructure projects needs to pay attention to time, costs and quality. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has the potential to minimize errors and increase efficiency. BIM is a method that was originally applied to the AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) industry. BIM technology makes it possible to create 3D building models that contain information, analysis of work volume calculations, scheduling, and cost calculations. There is several software that applies BIM technology such as Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Advanced Steel, Tekla Structures and Navisworks. BIM technology has been widely applied in construction projects in Indonesia, be it buildings, roads or bridges. In this research, modelling of a steel truss bridge with an arch type was carried out using Autodesk Revit software. This research was conducted to determine the capabilities and limitations of Autodesk Revit software in modelling arch-type steel frame bridge structures. The modelling in this research uses DED (Detailed Engineering Design) image sources for the Bukit Sulap Bridge project, which were obtained from the PUPR Department of Lubuklinggau City. The modelling carried out is in the form of steel frames, bracing, girder beams and bridge connections.

Modeling of construction and demolition waste management based on the project life cycle in Indonesia

Improper management of construction and demolition waste has massively accumulated waste and has raised concerns over its impact on the environment and natural resources. The aims of this research modeled construction waste management based on the project life cycle, starting from design, procurement, storage, and implementation. The study aims to conduct a more in-depth study related to Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) management to find the right strategy. The research method was used by identifying variables based on the review literature and compiling questionnaires for 80 construction projects in Indonesia that were randomly selected to be modeled with Partial Least Squares (PLS) tools. Based on specific criteria, existing models and indicators were evaluated against reflective outer models in explanatory research. The final model explains that construction waste has 24 indicators, namely, four at the design stage, eight at the procurement stage, four at the storage stage, and eight at the implementation stage. Based on the initial contextual analysis, the design factors are the main factor causing the waste. However, the final model explains that the construction waste contextually only relates to the implementation stage, but the design and storage stages directly affect the implementation stage. Therefore, strategies in waste management must be carried out, starting with the right design and material storage processes that are by standards to minimize waste at the time of implementation.

The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on The Construction Projects in Indonesia: Identifying the Risks from the Stakeholders’ Perspective

Covid-19, which is declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on March 11 2020 has significant impacts in many sectors around the world. Nevertheless, there is a lack of research which analyses the impact of Covid-19 in the construction projects risks in developing countries. Given the lack of research related to the construction projects risks due to Covid-19, the overall aim of the study is to identify and classify the risk in a construction project as a result of Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia. The methodology which is used in this study is by implementing the questionnaire approach with the targets from the related construction industry stakeholders. The findings identified five risks which have the highest possibility to occur in a construction project as a result of Covid-19, in which the highest risk is delayed funding on construction project design (Score: 0,2523) while the lowest risk is unknown threat or vandalism from the neighborhood gangster (score: 0,0136). Further study will focus on the way in which we could develop a new framework model for risk management and preventive measures of these risks adjusted to Covid-19 impact.

The development of construction project in Indonesia is growing rapidly. In the process of building construction projects, the phenomenon of the greenhouse effect has been taken part. Carbon emissions are one of the results of the greenhouse effect in the process of building construction projects. The foundation is one of the most important parts of construction that serves to hold the load and as a load distributor from the construction above the ground. In foundation work using reinforced concrete structures, reinforced concrete structures are a source of carbon emissions in construction projects. This study aims to find out how much carbon emissions are produced in the drilled pile work at the GBK Multifunctional Indoor Stadium project and which element produces the largest carbon emissions. The results of this study are carbon emissions produced by one bore pile with a diameter of 800 mm of 6553,78 kg.CO2 and the work of the bore pile, which produces the greatest carbon emissions, is material consumption of 6134.40 kg, CO2.

Mitigating Risk in Construction Business: The Impact of Contractor Business Size and Risk Location (Office and Field)

This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the size of the construction business and the location of the risk with the risks that arise in construction projects in Indonesia. The method used is two-way anova analysis by sampling 90 construction projects in Indonesia. The independent variable in this study is the size of the construction business and the location of the risk, while the dependent variable is the risk on the construction project. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between the size of the construction business and the risks of construction projects in Indonesia. In addition, there is also a significant relationship between the location of risks and risks in construction projects in Indonesia. However, there was no significant interaction between the size of the construction business and the location of risk to risk in construction projects in Indonesia. This research contributes to the construction industry in Indonesia in evaluating the factors that affect risk in construction projects. By knowing the relationship between the size of the construction business and the location of the risk with the risk on the construction project, the contractor company can improve the risk management strategy to minimize the risk to the construction project in the future. Future research may consider other variables such as contractor experience and expertise as well as external factors such as market and political conditions to better understand the factors that influence risk in construction projects in Indonesia.

Probabilistic Scheduling Based On Hybrid Bayesian Network–Program Evaluation Review Technique,

Project scheduling based on probabilistic methods commonly uses the Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT). However, practitioners do not widely utilize PERT-based scheduling due to the difficulty in obtaining historical data for similar projects. PERT has several drawbacks, such as the inability to update activity dura- tions in real time. In reality, changes in project conditions related to resources have a highly dynamic nature. The availability of materials, fluctuating labor productiv- ity, and equipment significantly determine the project completion time. This research aims to propose a probabilistic scheduling model based on the Hybrid Bayesian Network-PERT. This model combines PERT with Bayesian Network (BN). BN is used to accommodate real-time changes in resource conditions. The modeling of BN diagrams and variables is obtained through an in-depth literature review, direct field observations, and distributing questionnaires to experts in project scheduling. The model is validated by applying the proposed model to a 60 m concrete bridge construction project in Indonesia. The simulation results of the proposed model are then compared with the case study project to assess the model’s accuracy. The result of the study shows that the proposed hybrid Bayesian-PERT model is accurate and can eliminate the weaknesses of the PERT method. Besides being able to provide an accurate prediction of project completion time (93.4%), this model can also be updated in real-time according to the actual condition of the project

Factor and Barrier Implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Green Construction in Indonesia

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a technology that potential to increase effectiveness and productivity in projects. Implementing BIM in the project not only can simultaneously represent the physical modelling of a building but also can reduce waste and optimize time and resources as the aims of green construction. Nevertheless, unfortunately the level of BIM adoption in Indonesia is lower than other developing countries. The aim of this research is to analyse factors and barriers to implementing BIM to support green construction in Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative research method in a questionnaire survey of 20 construction projects in Indonesia to determine the factors driving BIM adoption and barrier to BIM adoption on construction projects in Indonesia. The result finds five factors driving the implementation of BIM in Indonesia i.e requirements from the government, BIM is believed to improve performance, BIM is believed better than existing method, technology and resources readiness, and support from top management. Despite the driving factors, the implementation of BIM also has barriers i.e lack of information, lack of BIM training for workers, reluctance to change, lack of owner requirement, and high the initial cost.

The Analysis of Identification and Risk Mitigation in Irrigation Work Contractors

Irrigation construction project work is a type of project that has a relatively high risk potential compared to other project work. The development of construction projects in Indonesia can be seen from the use of new methods and technologies as well as the increasing number of parties involved. Rehabilitation of the Progomanggis irrigation network is more complicated than other rehabilitation works because it covers a large area and is located in a place with difficult access. Therefore, this work is vulnerable to the risks that will arise. Based on the results of the analysis carried out, it can be concluded that the schedule for opening and closing river water in the Progomanggis Irrigation Network Rehabilitation Project has a very high risk of project performance. The impact of risk on the project is the delay in work time. Other risks are: weather conditions; changes in work methods; shunt materials; and cropping patterns of water-using communities. Risk control on the project is carried out by conducting regular coordination meetings with stakeholders and making adjustments to work methods.

Barrier of Green Building Implementation in Construction Projects in Indonesia

The development of a city that including infrastructure support has a massive impact on environmental conditions and climate change. Green buildings are the key solution to environmental problems. However, the implementation of the green buildings are very slow in Indonesia. Most of dominant inhibiting factors for green building implementation are the difficulty of obtaining green materials, a lack of understanding of the importance of green buildings, the additional costs required to build green buildings, and the lack of support from the government. This research is conducted to sort out the factors inhibiting the construction/implementation of green buildings from the angle of contractors and owners. Many questionnaires have been distributed in cities in Indonesia then found that the factors that hindered contractors were lack of research on green building, lack of demand from owners, lack of strict regulation from the government, failures in planning, and longer project duration. From the owner’s side, what is anchoring is the lack of attention and interest, limited research on green building technology, high costs, and lack of cooperation between parties that support the owner delivering a green building.

ANALYSIS OF COST AND CASTING TIME WITH CONVENTIONAL AND PRECAST METHODS ON THE CITEREUP FLYOVER CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The concrete manufacturing process, also known as casting, is the final stage that determines the success of a flyover construction project. The benchmark lies in the casting method which of course has a direct effect on resource efficiency, processing time, budget, and quality. Generally, the process of casting concrete in flyover construction projects in Indonesia uses the conventional method in which the process is carried out and cast in situ. However, the development of science and the paradigm of efficiency in the dimensions of flyover construction projects has given birth to a new method in which the concrete hardening process can be carried out elsewhere and made precast.The conventional method and the precast method are now the best alternative by taking into account aspects of cost, quality and time which are considered for efficiency in flyover construction projects.
