Congenital diverticulum of the distal urethra is extremely rare in urological practice, there are isolated descriptions of it in the literature, as a result every clinical observation is of interest. The aim of this study is demonstration of a rare clinical observation congenital diverticula of the distal urethra without infravesical obstruction (meatostenosis) in a teenager.
 The article describes a clinical case of treatment of congenital diverticula of the anterior urethra without signs of infravesical obstruction in a 13-year-old teenager.
 A case of surgical treatment of congenital urethral diverticulum without infravesical obstruction in a 13-year-old teenager is presented. Diverticulectomy with suture of the urethra was performed with good anatomical and functional results.
 A distal urethral diverticulum of a congenital nature is extremely rarely noted as an isolated condition without an anterior urethral valve or another variant of infravesical obstruction. The method of choice is to perform diverticulectomy with suturing of the urethra.

Urinary incontinence secondary to a suspected congenital urethral deformity in a kitten.

Case summaryA 5-month-old entire male domestic shorthair kitten was referred for investigation of a month-long history of urinary incontinence. Clinical examination, baseline blood work and imaging (plain radiography and ultrasonography) were unremarkable. Urinalysis documented a urinary tract infection and a retrograde urethrocystogram revealed an outpouching of the pelvic urethra. Surgical exploration revealed the absence of the dorsal portion of the urethral wall in this section of pelvic urethra, replaced by an epithelial lined expanded ‘pouch’. The ventral aspect of the urethra appeared grossly normal. A modified perineal urethrostomy was performed to create an anastomosis of the urethral pouch to the skin of the perineum alongside conventional castration. The kitten made a full recovery and the incontinence resolved within 48 h. A congenital urethral diverticulum and secondary urinary tract infection were deemed the most likely aetiology in this case.Relevance and novel informationUrethral diverticuli are a rare condition in veterinary medicine. To our knowledge, it has only been reported in two dogs and presumptively in one cat, all of which made a complete recovery after surgical intervention. The present case reports an unusual urethral deformity as a potential differential diagnosis for lower urinary tract signs in a young cat.

Urethral Multiplicity: When Two Are Better Than One

Urethral multiplicity is a rare congenital anomaly that may be associated with lower urinary symptoms, whereas congenital urethral diverticulum is even more rare and may predispose to obstructive uropathy and urinary sepsis. We report 2 cases of boys with urethral multiplicity, to include urethral duplication associated with duplicated urethral diverticula and a case of urethral triplication.

Congenital Urethral Diverticulum in Male Subject: Report of Three Cases

Introduction: The urethral diverticulum or urethrocele corresponds to a saccular dilation of a portion of the urethral wall. Our objective was to report the clinical aspects, investigations and therapeutic aspects of three cases of congenital urethrocele. Observations: They were three male patients aged 11, 20 and 42 years, two of whom had consulted for terminal dribbling. The diagnosis of urethrocele was made for all patients with retrograde and voiding cystouretrography. Treatment consisted of resection of the urethrocele followed by urethroplasty for both cases. Conclusion: Diagnostic of congenital urethrocele must always be assessed when there is a persistent terminal dribbling, and systematically ask for a retrograde and voiding cystourethrography to confirm it.

A rare case of male congenital urethral diverticulum

Urethral diverticulum is a rare disorder in males. It may be the reason for constant dribbling and recurrent urinary tract infections in a male child. Early diagnosis and prompt management are essential to avoid urinary tract complications. This is a case report of a urethral diverticulum in an 8-year-old boy who presented with constant dribbling of urine.

IntroductionCongenital anterior urethral diverticula in adult males are infrequent urological diseases, which they were mainly found in women. The etiology of female diverticula is that (Mohan et al. in J Urol 123(4):592–594, 1980) women have anatomically poorly supported urethral. Clinical presentation frequently involves urinary urgency, polyuria, postmicturition dribble, and hematuria.Case descriptionA 37 year-old male was presented to us complaining of infertility about 6 years after marriage.Discussion and EvaluationHowever, the complaint of infertility is extremely rare. Diagnostic imaging is useful to effectively confirm this disease in most cases. A complete review of the literature on this topic was also carried out.ConclusionManifestation as complaining of infertility is extremely rare among the congenital patients. The purpose of the operation is to complete the removal of the urethral diverticulum, reconstruct the urethra and maintain urinary tract unobstructed. This article and the operation could help the patient resolve the problem of infertility and dissatisfactory with the ejaculation.

Congenital urethral diverticulum is an extremely rare entity and only an approximate 260 cases have been reported to date. The majority of published cases were diagnosed at infancy due to recurrent urinary infections, symptoms of lower urinary tract obstruction, an enlarged urethra found upon physical examination, and a decompensated bladder with or without secondary reflux.We present herein the case of a 5-year-old boy with urinary incontinence and an important increase in size in the ventral part of the penis. Diagnosis of a congenital urethral diverticulum was made through urethrocystography; there was no bladder decompensation or secondary vesicoureteral reflux. The patient was treated with single-stage urethroplasty (open technique) with no complications and the postoperative period was adequate. His urinary incontinence was resolved and he was completely asymptomatic at periodic follow-ups with no further urinary tract infections. Two years after treatment, he has satisfactory urine flow and an esthetically normal penis.

Acquired Male Urethral Diverticula: Presentation, Diagnosis and Management

We describe the etiology, presentation, treatment and outcomes of men diagnosed with an acquired urethral diverticulum. We retrospectively analyzed the records of men with an acquired urethral diverticulum in an 11-year period (2000 to 2011) at a tertiary care reconstructive practice. Patient demographics, history, presentation, anatomical details such as diverticulum size and location, management and outcomes were recorded. Technical success was defined as unobstructed urination without urinary tract infection. A total of 22 men with an acquired urethral diverticulum were included in analysis. Median age at presentation was 48.5 years (range 18 to 86). Most commonly, patients presented with recurrent urinary tract infection, urinary dribbling, incontinence or a weak urinary stream. Of the 22 men 12 (54.5%) underwent urethral diverticulectomy and urethroplasty, 3 (13.5%) underwent ileal conduit urinary diversion and 7 (32%) were treated nonoperatively. Select cases were managed conservatively when the urethral diverticulum was confirmed in a nonobstructed urethra, it was small or asymptomatic and it could be manually emptied after voiding. At a mean followup of 2.3 years there was a 91% urethral diverticulum recurrence-free rate. Acquired male urethral diverticula are rare but should be considered when there is recurrent urinary tract infection, obstructive voiding symptoms, a history of hypospadias, urethral stricture or trauma, or prolonged urethral catheterization. Treatment options may include surgical excision of the urethral diverticulum or urinary diversion. Some patients may be adequately treated nonoperatively with post-void manual decompression.

Prenatal Diagnosis and Neonatal Management of Congenital Urethral Diverticulum

We present a series of male neonates with prenatally detected anterior urethral diverticula and discuss postnatal management. We retrospectively reviewed 3 cases of prenatally detected anterior urethral diverticula presenting between 1998 and 2005. An anterior urethral cystic mass was identified prenatally in all 3 patients. One mass spontaneously ruptured prenatally. The patient underwent diverticulectomy and urethroplasty at age 6 months. Two patients had obstructive uropathy with oligohydramnios and were delivered at 32 weeks of gestation. Both cases were managed by urethrostomy and subsequent diverticulectomy and urethroplasty at age 6 months. Infravesical obstruction from a urethral diverticulum can be accurately identified and differentiated from other causes prenatally. Marsupialization is an excellent option for temporary urinary diversion when the clinical situation precludes primary excision and repair.

Congenital urethral diverticulum in the male

Congenital urethral diverticulum is rare in males. We describe a twenty-one-year-old man who had a congenital urethral diverticulum at the bulbous portion of the anterior urethra.

Anterior urethral valves resulting from congenital urethral diverticula

Five cases of anterior urethral diverticula with resulting anterior urethral valves are reported. All children presented with a poor stream. Diagnosis was accomplished by voiding cystourethrography, and treatment was by open resection of the diverticulum in four neonates and endoscopic excision of the valve in a four-year-old boy.

Anterior urethral diverticulum in the male: report of two cases.

Anterior urethral diverticulum in the male is relatively uncommon; 2 additional cases are presented. One of the patients had a unique fusiform dilatation of the urethra, the first to be reported in an adult as an acquried diverticulum. Features distinguishing acquired from congenital urethral diverticula are discussed.
