Land configuration and nutrient management model increased the productivity through improved soil enzyme activities in an organic cotton wheat production system

Suitable land configuration and nutrient approach are essential for sustaining crop production under semi-arid Inceptisols of India. The study aimed to assess the effect of land configuration (raised bed [RB] and flat bed [FB]) and nutrient approach, viz., organic (Organic), inorganic (soil test crop response [STCR]), and integrated nutrient management (STCR-Integrated plant nutrient supply [IPNS]) along with farm yard manure (FYM) and control (CK) on soil’s physicochemical and biological properties after two consecutive cycles of cotton-wheat. Results showed that land configuration did not impact the pH, organic carbon, and its stock at 0–15 and 15–30 cm soil. However, bulk density was reduced (2.03%) and microbial biomass carbon increased (5.12%) significantly under RB at 0–15 cm soil compared to FB planting. The RB significantly increased the available N (4.06%), P (8.40%) and K (4.22%) and urease (8.37%), alkaline phosphatase (6.10%), and dehydrogenase activity (8.28%) of soils compared to FB. Soil physicochemical and biological properties were highly impacted under STCR-IPNS treatment and least under control at both depths. Integrated treatment showed the highest seed cotton (3097 kg ha−1) and wheat grain yield (6085 kg ha−1); however, land configuration did not impact the yield of both crops. Further, RB increased the protein content of wheat by 1.1% and the ginning percentage and lint index of cotton by 2.4% and 5.5%, respectively compared to FB. In terms of nutrient management, cotton and wheat quality parameters were found higher for STCR-IPNS treatment. Thus, the study suggests that RB planting with an integrated nutrient approach could be a sustainable and feasible practice for quality food and fiber production for semi-arid Inceptisols.

S-SCMM: A Simplified Software Configuration Management Model for Software Services in Public University

Software Configuration Management (SCM) is a process that supports Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), which benefits project management, development activities, maintenance activities, quality assurance activities, and the end users of the software product. However, findings from series of interviews have proven that SCM is difficult to operate and to be implemented by the practitioners in public universities specifically in Malaysia. Some of the SCM activities could be aided by using the SCM automated tools, however not all practitioners opted that due to inflexibility of the tools. Theoretical and empirical study have identified and revealed the current practices, success factors, essential elements, and components of SCM that were used frequently and beneficial among software practitioners. The empirical study also found that the main components of s-SCMM are process, SCM tool, and human. The s-SCMM was proposed and developed by considering the main components: process, tools, human, and success factors. The s-SCMM model was validated through expert review. As the result, a Simplified SCM Model (or s-SCMM) was proposed and developed to help the execution and implementation of SCM in public university environment. The s-SCMM model is simplified by focusing on change management, version control, system building, and release management. Therefore, s-SCMM will become a platform to assist total implementation of SCM in organization. By using this model, the preparation and usage of SCM artefacts could become more effective, efficient, and systematic.

МЕХАНІЗМ ДЕРЖАВНОГО РЕГУЛЮВАННЯ РИНКУ ЕНЕРГОРЕСУРСІВ

The article provides insights to describing specific features of government regulation of the energy market. The study offers an overview on the evolution of methods, forms and tools of government control of power supply system components across different countries. Domestic and international business practices bear evidence of a number of problems in government regulation which drives the search for their solution by building a new, more progressive model of energy market regulation, in particular, the configuration management model. This configuration regulation model contributes to more effective implementation of tools and methods of managerial intervention to the energy market at four levels: micro- (companies, households) and meso- (regional) – in shaping demand for certain types of energy resources; on meso- (sectoral) and macro- (national) – in building energy supply patterns. The effectiveness of the energy market configuration regulation model tools by their functional load is validated through a range of organizational measures (reduction of dependence on the oil and gas market; decommissioning of obsolete facilities; liberalization of the energy market in the area of distribution; further liberalization as to distributed energy generation); technological measures (building local networks with renewable sources generation; Smart Grid versions –"smart networks"; implementation of passive / active house standards; creating the electricity storage market); financial measures (attracting large investments in the energy sector; implementing project financing technologies to attract long-term investments from the banking system; launching special economic zones to reduce the tax burden on business entities within the framework of the government energy saving policy). The implementation of all these activities will enhance energy efficiency and energy saving systems, as well as contributes to attaining strategic benchmarks defined in the Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2030.

Improvement of IT Infrastructure Management by Using Configuration Management and Maturity Models: A Systematic Literature Review and a Critical Analysis

Abstract Background and purpose: This research aims to investigate which benefits one may expect using Maturity Models in Configuration Management (CM) domain. CM is a support process that helps organizations have better management of their infrastructure. Its importance, in the Information Technology (IT) domain, has increased in recent years, despite this process not being technologically new, and the fact that many organizations implement this process in a haphazard way, which results in it not producing the benefits that it should produce. With the intention of assessing and improving the organizations’ IT processes practices and capabilities, MMs have been developed and implemented. However, the application of MM in the CM domain is yet to be explored. Design/Methodology/Approach: Two Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs) and a Critical Analysis were performed. In sum, 80 scientific articles of the most rated conferences and scientific journals were analyzed and conclusions were drawn. Results: This research concludes that despite the CM process being badly implemented, using a MM this process could decrease operational costs and increase the quality management of the infrastructure. Conclusion: However, no MM has been developed so far for the CM process practices. This MM would be a viable support tool for the IT organizations providers since this would help organizations have a mature CM process and better control of their IT infrastructure. Therefore, the existence of a MM for the CM domain would be a welcome advancement that should be developed in the future.

Impact Analysis of Demand Management on Runway Configuration in Metroplex Airports

Congestion in airports and metroplexes is increasingly becoming a key bottleneck in the global air transport system. It is largely due to inefficient utilization of runway resources and its consequences of imbalance between demand and capacity. Existing studies mainly focus on runway configuration in a single airport system, and little consideration is given to the impact of demand management on runway configuration in metroplexes. Therefore, this paper proposes a methodology and assessment framework for runway configuration with a focus on the exploitation of multiple active runways in metroplex airports. The primary innovation is an integrated runway configuration management formulation with air traffic demand management options. The first is static and dynamic runway configuration management models featuring three optimization objectives, four cases of demand-capacity imbalance, three air traffic demand management options and three assessment scenarios, for eleven priority settings. The second is an efficient multi-objective evolutionary algorithm with a mechanism of objective-guided individual selection, which can obtain close-to optimal solutions with a very low computational cost within 6 seconds. Computational experiments for the real-world case of the Shanghai metroplex airports show that, the inducing strategy of minimizing the total number of adjusted flights is the best mechanism for making satisfactory tradeoffs among multiple objectives in dynamic runway configuration. The proposed model reduces the total number of adjusted flights by an average of 36% compared with the baseline static runway configuration management. Furthermore, unlike the conventional approach of giving priority to arriving aircraft, a higher priority for departures is more effective in enhancing the performance of runway systems and reducing the number of adjusted flights. The proposed framework can be applied at pre-tactical (e.g., one-day planning) as well as tactical (e.g., several-hours rolling horizon) levels.

An approach to configuration management in the aero-engine overhaul process

PurposeThe functionality and reliability of an overhauled aero-engine is determined by all configuration changes in the overhaul process. Identifying, recording, auditing, tracking and tracing of configuration modifications are significant and meaningful. Considering the barriers to these goals, this paper aims to put forward an approach to configuration management in the aero-engine overhaul process.Design/methodology/approachThe overhaul configuration management model is proposed to describe an aero-engine’s configuration evolution trajectory in the overhaul process. The controlling and auditing procedures are put forward to control and audit parts’ return-to-zero statuses and overproof statuses. And some searching algorithms are also designed to enable tracking and tracing of the configuration status along the time coordinate, or get a snapshot of an aero-engine’s configuration at a certain time. The above model, procedures and algorithms have been implemented and adopted to fulfill the configuration management requirements in the aero-engine overhaul process.FindingsThe approach is effective in identifying, recording, controlling, auditing, tracking and tracing configuration changes in the overhaul process.Practical implicationsThe approach’s implementation and adoption present a practical example for aero-engines’ configuration management issue in the overhaul process.Originality/valueThe work proposes an original aero-engine configuration management solution for the overhaul process and enables a reliable and accurate configuration management mode.

Configuration Management Model in Evolutionary Software Product Line

In Software Product Line (SPL), Configuration Management (CM) is a multi-dimensional problem. On the one hand, the Core Assets that constitute a configuration need to be managed, and on the other hand, each product in the product line that is built using a configuration must be managed, and furthermore, the management of all these configurations must be coordinated under a single process. Therefore, CM for product lines is more complex than for single systems. The CM of any software system involves four closely related activities: Change Management (ChM), Version Management (VM), System Building (SB) and Release Management (RM) [I. Sommerville, Software Engineering, 9th edn. (Addison-Wesley, 2010)]. The aim of this paper is to provide ChM and VM models for evolutionary-based SPL system development and maintenance. The proposed models support any level of aggregation in SPLs and have been applied to Mobile SPL as a case study.

Progress in the integration of the ITER plant systems in auxiliary buildings

The ITER Tokamak machine is located in the center of Tokamak complex buildings consisting of Tokamak, Diagnostic, and Tritium buildings. Around the Tokamak complex there are over 30 auxiliary buildings housing various plant systems serving the Tokamak machine either directly or indirectly. The layout and space allocation of each auxiliary building and plant systems housed by the building are represented in the so-called Configuration Management Models (CMM). These are light 3D CAD models that define the required space envelope and the physical interfaces between the systems and the buildings and in-between the systems. The paper describes the CMM and interface management processes of the ITER auxiliary buildings and plant systems, and discusses the preparations for the plant installation phase. In addition, the current baseline configuration of the ITER plant systems in auxiliary buildings is described together with the recent developments in the configuration of different systems, as well as the current status of the construction of the buildings.

A New Approach to Configuration Management for Private LOCKSS Networks

The node-based configuration management model is an alternative approach to configuration management for Private LOCKSS Networks that reduces external dependencies and subsequent vulnerabilities by flattening the hierarchical vendor-consumer model into a preservation node-based service. The node-based configuration management model also describes approaches for leveraging the LOCKSS preservation protocols to distribute and preserve the configuration data, and maintain continuous service regardless of network membership changes or infrastructural failure.

Development of object model of the generalized configuration management process in project management

Almost inevitable changes in external and internal environment of the project leads to the problem of consistency support the project and its results, i.e. the product of the project. The essence of the problem lies in the fact that the lack of control over changes to the object, the values of the characteristics which cause the values of the characteristics of other objects can lead to mismatch of characteristic values of dependent objects. Because of this mismatch may be exceeded or completion dates of the project budget. In this investigation it is developed a mathematical model of the object of the process of the configuration management – the model of controlled object. A feature of this model is its versatility in relation to the kind of object. So, using the presented model, it can be formalized both tangible and intangible objects controlled by the process of the configuration management. The underlying concepts of configuration management sector are mathematically described. Such concepts are: characteristics, current and consistent state characteristics, specifications change, consistency relation, object, current and consistent state of the object, changing the subject. It is identified and described the mathematical object "object consistency map", which is a directed graph built on the binary relations, reflecting the ratio of consistency between the characteristics of the controlled object, and those characteristics that affect the consistency of the object. The results can be used to develop a mathematical model of configuration management of an object and its further optimization for efficient implementation.

THE CHANGE CONTROL IN AIRCRAFT TESTING

The paper has been intended to describe the essence of the change control in the aircraft testing, the change control being a component of the process of configuration management process. The concept of a systemic approach to the change control under the configuration management (CM) model has been presented. The essence of establishing the configuration of reference being the base for realization of tests has been indicated and necessity of control was justified. Decomposition of tests to objects of configuration has been created. The exemplary externals that have an effect on identified object of configuration have been described. It was assumed that the differences between real and supposed parameters of externals are the reason of changes to established configuration of testing. The algorithm of proceeding referred to implementation changes (initiating, description, estimation of the influence, taking a decision about implementation, messaging information to interested parties) has been proposed. The instruments for control of tests configuration has been presented. It was proved that efficient control of configuration could be an instrument for efficient realization of tests while changes appear. What has been proposed is a process of qualitative assessment of the change control as one of the most essential issues of the configuration management modelling in the aircraft testing.

Service OAM in DOCSIS provisioning of EPON networks

Version 1.0 of the DPoETM Specifications provides a mechanism for automated device and service provisioning that is consistent with MSOs' existing DOCSIS provisioning infrastructure. Examining the extension of the DPoE provisioning model to accommodate S-OAM suggests aspects of the current IEEE and MEF configuration management model appear to be at odds with the DPoE model. In this article, we examine the need for S-OAM in DPoE Networks, look deeper into the operation and configuration aspects of S-OAM, and propose a novel approach to automating the process.

A standard-based data model for configuration management and maintenance support

The goal of this paper is to define a data model for configuration management and maintenance, taking into account the whole life cycle of assets. First step was to review the systems related to configuration management checking the utilization of standards and norms which are connected in a practical way, and looking for the relationship of the different possible data models used for configuration management systems. A definition of data model is presented organized in 9 layers of information and it is applied in an use case where is checked the problems of the data model with the purpose of improve it.

Configuration Management Using Dependency Analysis of Software Change Visibility

Software configuration management is a field of managing sets of large scale software outputs to be the basis of the software products. Configuration management has significantly improved for the past few years, yet new system is still required. Instead of using previous methods or researching about configuration management, professional management of developing project is needed. Therefore, techniques such as storage model for configuration management, management program for change procedure and management of program interface is needed. In this paper, we provide storage for configuration management and implement decision-making system to manage divided program and interface. Thus, we propose a new access method by the configuration management dependency. This paper provides configuration management for developing software to verify and classify using decision-making system for the change and combination of independent components with high dependency.

ITER remote maintenance system configuration model overview

A challenge for the ITER project is to manage the design of many systems being developed in parallel. In order to control the machine configuration and ensure proper design integration, the ITER project has implemented the so-called “configuration management models” (CMMs), aimed at controlling and managing the machine systems’ interfaces. Specific issues are raised for modelling the ITER remote maintenance system (IRMS). That system shall provide the mean to support the remote maintenance operations for in-vessel components, remote transfer of activated components between the vacuum vessel (VV) and the hot cell facility and remote repairing, refurbishing and/or processing operations in the hot cell facility. The IRMS are dynamic, constantly changing morphologies, working envelopes and locations within the plant. This raises the issue of how to integrate the dynamic nature of this equipment into the CMM required for design integration. This paper describes the design methodology that is being developed to address the specific nature of the IRMS in the building of the CMM and gives examples to demonstrate the benefits to be gained by adopting this approach.

Development on systems configuration in ITER Tokamak Complex and Auxiliary Buildings

The ITER site consists of almost 30 buildings to service the Tokamak machine which is located in the centre of the Tokamak Complex facility with the Tokamak-, Diagnostic- and Tritium building. The design of a large part of the ITER plant systems will be executed by the ITER Domestic Agencies or their industrial suppliers under functional specifications provided by the ITER Organization. At the same time, the detailed design of the building is carried out by the European Domestic Agency ‘Fusion for Energy’ (F4E). In order to allow an efficient identification of the ITER configuration as well as to manage the concurrent engineering activities and to simplify the identification and assessment of changes, the design of each ITER plant systems is described in the so-called Configuration Management Models (CMM). These are light CATIA ® 3D models that define the required space envelope and the physical interfaces in-between the systems and the buildings. The paper describes the procedure adopted for the control of the baseline configuration of the Tokamak Complex facility and Auxiliary Buildings with their associated plant systems and illustrates the current status as well as recent developments in the different systems.

Developments in remote metrology at JET

The need to maximise the operational availability of fusion devices has driven the enhancements in accuracy, flexibility and speed associated with the inspection techniques used at JET. To this end, the remote installation of the ITER-Like Wall (ILW) tiles, conduits and embedded diagnostics has necessitated the adoption of technologies from other industries for their use in conjunction with the JET Remote Handling (RH) system. The novel adaptation of targetless stereophotogrammetry, targeted single-camera photogrammetry and gap measurement techniques for remote applications has prompted a range of challenges and lessons learnt both from the design process and operational experience. Interfacing Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components with the existing RH equipment has highlighted several issues of relevance to the developing ITER RH system. This paper reports results from the stereophotogrammetry and the single-camera photogrammetry surveys, allowing analysis of the effectiveness of the RH system as a platform for in-vessel measurement. This includes scrutiny of the accuracy achieved with each technique as well as the impact on the in-vessel Configuration Management Model (CMM). The paper concludes with a summary of key recommendations for the ITER RH system based on the experience of remote metrology at JET.

A Runway Configuration Management Model with Marginally Decreasing Transition Capacities

The runway configuration management (RCM) problem governs what combinations of airport runways are in use at a given time, and to what capacity. Runway configurations (groupings of runways) operate under runway configuration capacity envelopes (RCCEs) which limit arrival and departure capacities. The RCCE identifies unique capacity constraints based on which tarmacs are used for arrivals, departures, or both, and their direction of travel. When switching between RCCEs, some decrement in arrival and departure capacities is incurred by the transition. A previous RCM model (Frankovich et al., 2009) accounted for this cost through a required period of inactivity. In this paper, we instead focus on the introduction and assessment of a model capable of marginally decreasing RCCE capacities during configuration transitions. A transition penalty matrix is introduced, specifying the relative costs (in terms of accepted arrival and departure capacities) for switching between RCCEs. The new model benefits from customizable transition penalties which more closely represent real-world conditions, at a reasonable computational cost.

Constraint-based model for network service provisioning

As the network services deployed over the Internet become more complex, their configurations are more difficult to manage. The constraints that exist among the network service configuration parameters are an important source of complexity in the configuration, validation and fault management processes. Existing solutions do not provide adequate high-level models to capture and integrate various types of configuration constraints. It is therefore necessary to adopt a structured approach in order to solve this problem. Thus, in this paper, we propose a structured and integrated constraint-based model for network service configuration, validation and fault management.
