Business Judgment Rule and Corporate Governance as the Strategic Imperative of Indonesian State-owned Enterprise

The business judgment rule in state-owned enterprises can serve as either a protective shield or a boomerang for those involved within the mechanism of corporate governance. As such, this study aims to explore the relationship between good corporate governance and the business judgment rule principle in the context of the integrity and sustainability of directorial decisions amidst the dynamically changing context of a company’s legal responsibilities. Through a juridical normative method employing a conceptual approach, this study finds that good corporate governance cannot determine the implementation of the business judgment rule principle. This means that even though good corporate governance is significant in creating a conducive work environment for a responsible decision-making process, it cannot directly influence the implementation of the business judgment rule in cases involving state-owned enterprises.

Analisis Lingkungan dan Kemampuan Kerja Terhadap Kinerja Pegawai dan Dampaknya Pada Kepuasan Kerja Pegawai (Studi Pada UPTD Puskesmas Muara Komam)

This study aims to analyze the influence of work environment and workability on employee performance and its impact on employee job satisfaction at UPTD Muara Komam Health Center. The background of this study is based on the importance of employee performance in improving the quality of health services, as well as various problems related to suboptimal work environments and workability conditions. This study integrates the variables of work environment, workability, performance, and job satisfaction in one analysis model to provide a more comprehensive picture of the factors that influence the performance of Puskesmas employees. The research sample consisted of 63 UPTD Muara Komam Health Center employees who were selected randomly. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis method used was the Structural Equation Model (SEM) with SmartPLS software. The results showed that work environment and workability significantly affected employee performance. Job satisfaction was proven to mediate the relationship between work environment and workability on employee performance. A conducive work environment and good work ability directly improve employee performance and high job satisfaction, further strengthening this relationship. This study provides an important contribution to the development of human resource management policies in the health sector, especially in efforts to improve the performance and job satisfaction of Puskesmas employees. The managerial implications of this study include the need for good work environment management, such as providing adequate facilities and creating harmonious working relationships, as well as improving employee work skills through ongoing training and development programs

Assessing Decision Making Ability on Productivity of Department Heads

The main objective of the study was examined the relationship of decision-making ability on productivity of Department heads. Using a descriptive quantitative, correlational statistics, and adapted survey questionnaires to 100 department heads as respondents of the study who were selected using random sampling technique. The research reveals a moderate positive relationship between decision-making ability and the productivity of department heads. This suggests that as department heads demonstrate stronger decision-making skills, they are able to more effectively contribute to the overall productivity and performance of their respective departments. The overall mean indicates that various factors examined, including employee priorities, training consistency, communication level, motivational techniques, managerial attitude, and working environment, have a great extent of influence on the productivity of department heads, highlighting the importance of fostering a culture of shared vision, effective training programs, open communication channels, well-designed motivational strategies, positive managerial attitude, and a conducive work environment in supporting the decision-making abilities and productivity of department heads.

Using Indirect Speech Acts and Their Impacts on Creating a Conducive Workplace Environment

Communication at the workplace requires meaningful understanding because it affects the work relationship as well as the work atmosphere. Hence, expressions used to generate such conditions are supposed to embody a conducive environment. This research aimed to determine the types of indirect speech acts and their language functions. This study used a qualitative research with a descriptive design to depict the phenomenon. The subjects were three employees at PT. Bosowa Berlian Motor Makassar, who were chosen purposively considering their availability and their readiness during the data collection. The data were collected by using observation with audio recordings and the researchers themselves as the non-participant observers. The results of this study showed that there were five types of indirect speech acts and there were certain language functions practiced by the employees, they are: emphasizing and instructing (assertive type), telling a condition and commanding what to do (directive type), directing and checking for the appropriate work (commissive type), complaining and giving subtle offense (expressive type), and responding, telling information and encouraging (declarative type). All types and their functions revealed and occurred to meet the need of creating a conducive environment in the workplace. The five types represent the traits of being assertive, directive, trusted, expressive, and declarative along with their use of language functions. These traits bear positive and good atmosphere in the workplace. Thus, with the conducive working environment, the employees can undertake their tasks well and focus on reaching the target in the workplace.

The Influence of Work Motivation and Job Satisfaction on the Performance of Employees at the Yarsi Pontianak Health College

This research aims to analyse the influence of job satisfaction and work motivation on the performance of employees at the Yarsi Pontianak College of Health Sciences (Stikes). We employ a quantitative approach with explanatory research as our research method. We collected data by distributing questionnaires to all employees of Stikes Yarsi Pontianak, which included 20 lecturers and 26 education staff, resulting in a total sample of 46 people. The data analysis technique uses structural equation modelling (SEM) with a partial least squares (PLS) approach via SmartPLS version 4.0 software. The research results show that: (1) Job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on the performance of Stikes Yarsi Pontianak employees with a t-statistic value of 1.969 > 1.96, p-values 0.050 < 0.050, and a path coefficient of 0.405; (2) Work motivation has a positive and significant effect on the performance of Stikes Yarsi Pontianak employees with a t-statistic value of 2.602 > 1.96, p-values 0.010 < 0.050, and a path coefficient of 0.540. These findings imply that to improve employee performance, Stikes Yarsi Pontianak must pay attention to factors that can increase job satisfaction and work motivation, such as a conducive work environment, fair compensation, career development opportunities, good interpersonal relationships, job security, suitability for tasks, and motivational approaches tailored to individual needs. Future research should investigate additional variables that could impact employee performance, utilizing a wider range of research methods to provide a more comprehensive understanding.

Association of nature of work and work-related characteristics with cognitive functioning, life satisfaction and depression among Indian ageing adults.

Most individuals spend a significant amount of their time at work, and the dynamics at work can potentially influence their overall life, especially health and mental health. The present study tried to understand the association of the nature of work categorized as physically demanding, psychologically demanding, and environmentally hazardous on life satisfaction, cognitive functioning, and depressive symptoms among working middle-aged and older adults in India. We used data from the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI), Wave 1, collected between 2017 and 2018. The study sample consists of 28,653 working adults aged between 45 and 70. The study measures were assessed using standard tools. Linear regression analysis was employed. The results indicate that individuals working in less physically demanding (β = 0.06, 99% CI = 0.02-0.09) and not hazardous environments (β = 0.15, 99% CI = 0.09-0.20) had better life satisfaction. Also, not being involved in hazardous work environments increased the likelihood of good cognitive functioning and reduced depressive symptoms (β= -0.17, 99% CI= -0.20- -0.15). However, samples involved in works requiring less psychological demand had an increased likelihood of reduced life satisfaction and increased depressive symptoms. This study's results highlight the importance of creating a conducive working environment for the ageing adults.

The Influence of Motivation, Training and Compensation on Employee Performance

Purpose: This study examines the impact of motivation, training, and compensation on employee performance at the Secretariat of the DPRD of Jayapura Regency. Research Design and Methodology: The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing surveys and statistical analysis to evaluate the effects of motivation, training, and compensation on employee performance. Data was collected from employees at the Secretariat of the DPRD of Jayapura Regency and analyzed using simultaneous testing methods to determine the significance of each variable. Findings and Discussion: The results indicate that motivation, training, and compensation significantly influence employee performance individually and collectively. These findings highlight the potential for significant improvement in employee performance. Motivation enhances performance by fostering a positive work environment and employee engagement. Training improves performance by developing employee skills and competencies. Compensation boosts performance by providing financial and non-financial rewards that increase employee satisfaction and motivation. These findings underscore the critical role of these factors in organizational success and provide a hopeful outlook for the future. Implications: This study underscores the importance of a comprehensive approach to enhancing employee performance through motivation, training, and compensation. To create a motivated and productive workforce, organizational leaders and managers should focus on supportive leadership, continuous skill development, and fair compensation policies. These strategies can foster a conducive work environment, driving organizational success. Future research should explore these factors in diverse contexts and over extended periods to validate and expand upon these findings.

The influence of mentorship and working environments on foreign language teachers’ research motivation in China

Teachers at Higher Education (HE) institutions are expected to do research. However, the level of motivation to engage in research varies with various institutional factors affecting teachers’ research motivation. Previous research has shown the need to better understand these factors to facilitate teachers’ research motivation. This mixed methods study with 536 English as a foreign language (EFL) teacher participants from Chinese universities investigates the relationship between mentorship, working environment and teachers’ research motivation. Our analysis of the questionnaire data using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) shows the significant influence of working environments on teachers’ research motivation. Qualitative data from semi-structured interviews and diaries were thematically analysed to reveal that the examined factors have different impacts on teachers’ research motivation on the basis of different university types. Both mentorship and working environments had an influence on teachers’ research motivation. Teachers from “Project 985” and “Project 211” universities had a more supportive working environment than those teachers at ordinary/regular universities who appeared to have insufficient mentorship, poor working environments, inadequate time support, and deficient opportunities to attend academic conferences that affected these teachers’ research motivation negatively. The implications of our study are that university administrators and policymakers could develop practical mentorship programmes with effective assessment measurements of the mentoring process and stipulate relevant policies to provide conducive working environments, especially for teachers from ordinary/regular universities, to enhance teachers’ research motivation and improve their research productivity.

Pengaruh Kepemimpinan, Motivasi dan Disiplin Kerja terhadap Kepuasan Kerja Guru di SMP Negeri 17 Balikpapan Utara

Teacher Job Satisfaction has a crucial role in improving the quality of education in schools, and internal factors such as effective leadership, high motivation and good work discipline have been identified as important elements in creating a conducive work environment. This research aims to explore the extent to which leadership, motivation and work discipline influence the level of teacher job satisfaction at SMP Negeri 17 North Balikpapan. By identifying the relationship between these variables, this research also aims to provide relevant recommendations for the development of human resource management policies in these schools. The research uses a quantitative approach with data collection methods through questionnaires. The sample consisted of 35 teachers at SMP Negeri 17 North Balikpapan, who were selected using non-probability techniques. The collected data is analyzed using statistical techniques such as regression to test the proposed hypotheses. The software used in this research uses smartPls. The research results show that leadership has a positive but not significant influence on teacher job satisfaction. Motivation is proven to have a positive and significant influence on job satisfaction, while work discipline also has a positive influence on teacher job satisfaction. These findings provide a deeper understanding of the factors that influence teacher job satisfaction at SMP Negeri 17 North Balikpapan, as well as practical implications for the development of human resource management in schools.

Pengaruh Lingkungan Kerja Dan Skill Terhadap Kinerja Pramuniaga Yang Bekerja Di Mall

This research aims to analyze the influence of the work environment and skills on the performance of sales assistants working in malls. A conducive work environment and adequate skills are important factors that can influence the productivity and efficiency of salespeople. The research method used is qualitative with a literature approach. Data was collected through various literature such as journals, articles and books. The research results show that a good work environment and high skills significantly influence the performance of sales assistants. A comfortable, safe and supportive work environment can improve salesperson performance. Meanwhile, skills that are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of sales assistants have also been proven to increase efficiency and service quality. These findings indicate the importance of mall management to create a positive work environment and provide the necessary training to improve salesperson skills, thereby improving overall performance and customer satisfaction

PELATIHAN MANAJEMEN DALAM MENCIPTAKAN LINGKUNGAN KERJA YANG KONDUSIF DAN RELIGIUS DI KANTOR CAMAT RAMBUTAN, BANYUASIN

This community service aims to improve the quality of the work environment at the Office of the Sub-District Head of Rambutan, Banyuasin through management training emphasizing the creation of a conducive and religious work atmosphere. The training is designed to span three days, covering planning, implementation, and evaluation. On the first day, the focus is on planning and preparation, including coordination with relevant parties, determining training materials and speakers, and logistical arrangements. The second day constitutes the core of the training, where participants receive instruction on productivity, religious values, and strategies for optimizing productivity in a conducive and religious work environment. This session also includes group discussions and practical exercises to apply the learned concepts. The third day involves training evaluation and policy formulation to ensure the sustainability of training outcomes. The expected outcomes of this training include improved mental well-being and work motivation among employees, reduced stress levels, and the establishment of a more harmonious and blessed work culture. Leaders with high ethics and empathy are expected to foster a positive organizational culture, enhance interpersonal relationships among employees, and advance the quality of public services. Expected outputs from this initiative include comprehensive documentation of training materials, an evaluative report, participant certificates, and a clear follow-up plan. This documentation will serve as a reference for future training sessions and educational resources. Through this training, it is anticipated that employees at the Office of the Sub-District Head of Rambutan will better appreciate religious values in their daily work, enhance teamwork among colleagues, and contribute to improved public services oriented toward community welfare

Impact of Environmental Factors, Organizational Structure, Conflict Management, and Internal Control on the Effectiveness of Islamic Schools in Banten

The rapid increase in the number of schools necessitates the evaluation of educational quality across all institutions, including both private and state-run schools, with a particular focus on Islamic schools. Organizational performance serves as a key indicator of an institution's effectiveness. This study aims to analyze the impact of organizational structure, conflict management, and internal control on the work environment and effectiveness of teachers in Islamic schools in Banten. The study population comprised teachers from Islamic schools in Banten, with a total sample size of 58 teachers. Data analysis was conducted using path analysis to assess the relationships between the variables. The analysis revealed that organizational structure, conflict management, and internal control positively influenced the teachers' work environment. Furthermore, the organizational structure was found to have a significant impact on work effectiveness. However, conflict management and internal control did not show a significant effect on teachers' work effectiveness. Additionally, the work environment had a positive effect on the effectiveness of the teachers' work. The findings indicate that a well-defined organizational structure enhances both the work environment and the effectiveness of teachers in Islamic schools. While conflict management and internal control are beneficial for improving the work environment, they do not directly influence work effectiveness. The positive correlation between the work environment and teacher effectiveness underscores the importance of fostering a supportive and well-structured organizational setting. This study underscores the critical role of organizational structure in enhancing teacher effectiveness in Islamic schools. While conflict management and internal control improve the work environment, their direct impact on effectiveness is limited. Creating a conducive work environment remains essential for maximizing the performance of teachers.

The Influence of Work-Life Balance Policy, Work Culture, and Managerial Support on Employee Retention in Creative Industries in West Java

This study investigates the effect of work-life balance policies, work culture, and managerial support on employee retention in creative industries in West Java through quantitative analysis. A sample of 150 employees from various sectors within the creative industry participated in the study. Data were collected using structured surveys measuring perceptions of work-life balance policies, work culture, managerial support, and employee retention intentions. Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was employed to analyze the relationships between the variables. The results indicate significant positive relationships between work-life balance policies, work culture, managerial support, and employee retention intentions. These findings underscore the importance of fostering a supportive and conducive work environment in promoting employee retention within the dynamic landscape of the creative industries. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing insights into effective strategies for enhancing employee retention in creative industries in West Java.

Prevalence of burnout and associated factors among midwives, 2023: institution-based cross-sectional study.

One of the main characteristics of the mental health condition known as burnout syndrome is an overwhelming feeling of physical and emotional tiredness, particularly with regard to one's work. Midwives are the group most prone to burnout because they work in emergency situations to save two lives at a time, share the stress of laboring women, and put in extra hours without enough payment. Besides this, there is little information on burnout among Ethiopian midwives. To assess burnout and associated factors among midwives working in public health facilities in West Arsi Zone, Ethiopia. A census method cross-sectional study was conducted among all 467 midwives working in public health facilities found in the West Arsi Zone, Ethiopia, from September 1 and 30, 2023. A pretested, validated face-to-face interviewer-administered structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Then, binary logistic regression was used for analysis. Bi-variable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were employed to identify factors associated with burnout. The level of statistical significance was declared at p < 0.05 with a 95% CI. Overall, the prevalence of burnout among midwives was 47.10% (95% CI: 42.55, 51.75%). Marital status not in union 2.03 (95% CI: 1.32-3.13), working more than 40 h per week 2.00 (95% CI: 1.29-3.08), conflict with their metron 2.33 (95% CI: 1.54-3.54), not satisfied with their current job 2.39 (95% CI: 1.56-3.66) and having depression symptoms 1.71 (95% CI: 1.06-2.74) were factors significantly associated with burnout. This study found that in the study area, almost half of the midwives experienced burnout. Thus, it is recommended that midwives should develop respectful interactions with both their mentors and colleagues. Secondly, we suggest that zonal health offices set up systems that by shortening working hours and boost job satisfaction by creating conducive working environment, provide opportunities for career advancement and increase employee engagement.

Peranan Generasi Z dalam Event Jimbafest 2023 di Jimbaran Hijau

One strategy to optimize Gen Z employees as organizational assets is to utilize them by placing Gen Z according to their roles. HRD must be able to assess employee competencies and capabilities so that they can assign them the right position, because balancing roles in teamwork is important to create a conducive work environment and productive collaboration. This research aims to determine the role of Generation Z teamwork at the Jimbafest event and identify the role of Gen Z that needs to be improved so that the event can run more optimally. This research uses a mix of methods, including JMP software and data collection via questionnaires. The research results show that the roles of Plant, Specialist, and Resource Investigator are very lacking and must be improved to be able to create more productive work teams and complete work more effectively. Generation Z who contribute to a performance or activity must be more creative and imaginative in coming up with brilliant ideas, have experience and in-depth understanding in their field, and must be able to be good networkers or facilitators.

The Influence of Situational Leadership on Employee Work Productivity with Work Environment as a Mediating Variable At BUMN Defense Industry (Study at PT Len Industri Persero)

This study aims to analyze the effect of situational leadership on employee productivity with work environment as a mediating variable at PT Len Industri (Persero), a state-owned enterprise in the defense industry sector. The research method used is quantitative method with associative approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to employees of PT Len Industri (Persero). The research sample was taken using the slovin formula, with a total of 220 respondents. Data analysis was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the help of PLS version 3 software. The results showed that situational leadership has a significant influence on employee work productivity by 3.037. In addition, it was found that work environment acts as a significant mediating variable in the relationship between situational leadership and employee work productivity by 5.980. This means that effective situational leadership can increase employee work productivity directly, as well as through improving the quality of the work environment. This research provides a practical contribution for PT Len Industri (Persero) in implementing an adaptive leadership style and creating a conducive work environment to increase employee work productivity.

Exploring the interplay of transformational leadership, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in enhancing organizational citizenship behavior

This study investigates the intricate relationships between transformational leadership behaviours (TLB), job satisfaction (JS), organizational commitment (OC), and organizational citizenship behaviours (OCB) within the context of county governments in the United States. Drawing on a theoretical model that hypothesizes both direct and indirect effects of TLB on OCB, mediated by JS and OC, this research employs structural equation modelling to analyze survey data collected from 372 matched leader-follower pairs across various county governments. The findings substantiate the hypothesized model, revealing that TLB indirectly influences OCB through the mediating effects of JS and OC. Specifically, the study underscores the pivotal role of job satisfaction and organizational commitment as conduits through which transformational leadership exerts its positive impact on organizational citizenship behaviours. This research contributes to the literature by empirically validating a comprehensive model within the public sector context, thereby extending our understanding of the mechanisms through which transformational leadership fosters a conducive work environment that promotes OCB. The study's implications for leadership development and organizational policy within public sector organizations are discussed, alongside limitations and directions for future research.

This scientific article is a study of the theoretical prerequisites for the formation of the concept of democratic labor organization. In the past, the main focus was on the concept of rational formal structures as a means of implementing organizational decisions. However, in modern concepts, democratic forms of governance are gaining priority, considering the personal interests of individuals and based on horizontal interaction within the organization. The article analyzes the shift from traditional formal structures to more democratic management models within the framework of modern organizational behavior. The authors emphasize the importance of transitioning to more flexible and democratic management structures to increase organizational efficiency, stimulate employees’ creative potential, as well as create a favorable working environment. The analysis presented in the study is relevant and important in the context of modern labor organization theory, enriching the understanding of how democratic principles can be successfully implemented in the management practice of modern organizations. In conclusion, the study underscores the significance of embracing democratic principles in labor organization theory and practice. By advocating for more flexible and participatory management structures, organizations can enhance their efficiency, foster innovation, and cultivate a conducive work environment. Moving forward, further research and implementation of democratic principles are vital for advancing organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction.
