Existence and Stability of a Stationary Solution in a Two-Dimensional Reaction-Diffusion System with Slow and Fast Components

In the paper, the existence of a stable stationary solution in a reaction-diffusion system with slow and fast components in a two-dimensional spatial variable case is investigated. The theorem of the existence of a stationary solution with boundary layers in the case of Dirichlet boundary conditions is proven, its asymptotic approximation is constructed, and conditions for Lyapunov asymptotic stability of this solution are obtained. The research is based on the asymptotic method of differential inequalities, applied to a new class of problems. This result is practically important both for various applications described by similar systems and for the application of numerical stationing methods when solving elliptical boundary value problems.

Two Schemes of Impulsive Runge–Kutta Methods for Linear Differential Equations with Delayed Impulses

In this paper, two different schemes of impulsive Runge–Kutta methods are constructed for a class of linear differential equations with delayed impulses. One scheme is convergent of order p if the corresponding Runge–Kutta method is p order. Another one in the general case is only convergent of order 1, but it is more concise and may suit for more complex differential equations with delayed impulses. Moreover, asymptotical stability conditions for the exact solution and numerical solutions are obtained, respectively. Finally, some numerical examples are provided to confirm the theoretical results.

Backstepping Control Design in Conjunction with an EKF-based Sensorless Field-Oriented Control of an IPMSM

The collector and brushless electronic commutation machines have gained widespread utilization in industrial applications. Among these machines, internal permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) have become increasingly popular due to their numerous advantages, including high torque/current and torque/inertia ratios, robust construction, high efficiency, and reliability. However, the incorporation of position sensors in IPMSMs has introduced challenges concerning their application, performance, mass production, and cost. Consequently, the implementation of sensorless control techniques has become essential in drive systems and various applications. This paper proposes a backstepping control approach for achieving speed sensorless control of IPMSMs, employing an extended Kalman filter (EKF). The first step involves developing a comprehensive nonlinear dynamical model of the IPMSM in the direct and quadrature (d-q) rotor frame and obtaining its corresponding state-space representation. Subsequently, backstepping controllers for rotor speed and current tracking are designed to ensure precise tracking and anti-disturbance performance. These controllers are integrated into the field-oriented control (FOC) scheme. The Lyapunov stability theorem is employed to guarantee the asymptotic stability condition of the backstepping controller. To address the challenge of estimating immeasurable mechanical parameters of the IPMSM and accurately tracking the system states, an EKF is designed. This filter enables the estimation of mechanical parameters and achieves high steady-state precision within a finite time. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is demonstrated through simulations conducted under various dynamic operating conditions, including sudden torque load changes, command speed changes, and parameter variations.

Effects of stochastic perturbations on a phytoplankton allelopathy competitive system

In this paper, we investigate stochastic models of two species competitive phytoplankton system with allelopathic interaction. We construct stochastic models from deterministic models by introducing three different stochastic perturbations to the equations. For the first model, we prove that this model is asymptotically stable in probability at three different equilibrium points. It is also shown that the system is positively recurrent under some conditions. For the second model, we study the extinction, existence of positive recurrence and global asymptotic stability under some sufficient conditions. For the last system, almost sufficient and necessary conditions for global asymptotic stability, the existence of positive recurrence and extinction of each population are established. In addition, using a suitable stochastic Lyapunov method, we prove that there is a unique solution to three models, we also discuss the ultimate boundedness of the three stochastic systems. Moreover, some numerical simulations are introduced to illustrate our mathematical results. We show that stochastic models still retain the desirable stability of their deterministic counterparts if stochastic perturbations are relatively small.

Robust asymptotic stability analysis for fractional-order systems with commensurate time delays: The 1 < β ≤ 2 case

The robust asymptotic stability problem for fractional-order linear systems with commensurate time delays (FOSCDs) and structured perturbations is investigated in this manuscript. Based on the properties of Kronecker products and μ-analysis, the necessary and sufficient conditions are given to guarantee the asymptotic stability of FOSCDs. Then, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the robust asymptotic stability of FOSCDs with structured perturbations are investigated. To reduce the computing complexity and deal with the problems of systems with larger dimensions, a sufficient condition on the robust asymptotic stability of FOSCDs with structured perturbations is given based on the properties of Kronecker products and 2-norm transformations. Finally, several examples are illustrated to test the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Stability and Bifurcation Control for a Generalized Delayed Fractional Food Chain Model

In this paper, a generalized fractional three-species food chain model with delay is investigated. First, the existence of a positive equilibrium is discussed, and the sufficient conditions for global asymptotic stability are given. Second, through selecting the delay as the bifurcation parameter, we obtain the sufficient condition for this non-control system to generate Hopf bifurcation. Then, a nonlinear delayed feedback controller is skillfully applied to govern the system’s Hopf bifurcation. The results indicate that adjusting the control intensity or the control target’s age can effectively govern the bifurcation dynamics behavior of this system. Last, through application examples and numerical simulations, we confirm the validity and feasibility of the theoretical results, and find that the control strategy is also applicable to eco-epidemiological systems.

Stochastic stabilization based on kinetic-potential energy shaping for stochastic mechanical port-Hamiltonian systems

This paper extends a kinetic-potential energy shaping method to stochastic mechanical port-Hamiltonian systems. The kinetic-potential energy shaping brings a new class of Lyapunov function candidates involving a cross term of the position and the momentum without solving partial differential equations for deterministic port-Hamiltonian systems. However, the conventional kinetic-potential energy shaping does not necessarily work for stochastic port-Hamiltonian systems due to energy increase by stochastic noise. Therefore, we first provide a modification properly compensated by using stochastic generalized canonical transformations. Then, two stochastic stability results are presented. The first result shows a necessary condition for stochastic asymptotic stability for an equilibrium state. The other one shows a necessary condition for stochastic bounded stability for a target state, which is not necessarily an equilibrium point.

A two-strain avian–human influenza model with environmental transmission: Stability analysis and optimal control strategies

On the basis of the WHO legitimated fear that there will be an avian influenza virus strain capable of mutating once it reaches the human population and sustains human-to-human transmissions, we formulate an hypothetical mathematical model which accounts for the environmental transmission and mutation of an avian influenza virus having the ability to spill over into the human population and become a highly pathogenic strain. We compute the basic reproduction number of the model and use it to study the existence and stability of equilibrium points. We derive conditions for the global asymptotic stability of any of the three equilibrium. The model is extended to incorporate six relevant time-dependent controls, and use the Pontryagin’s maximum principle to derive the necessary conditions for optimal disease control. Finally, the optimal control problem is solved numerically to show the effect of each control parameter and their combination. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratios are calculated to investigate the cost-effectiveness of all possible combinations of the control strategies. This study suggests that quarantine infected humans might be the most cost-effective strategy to control avian influenza transmissions with the virus mutation.

Theoretical Development and Numerical Validation of an Asymmetric Linear Bilateral Control Model- Case Study for an Automated Truck Platoon

In this paper, we theoretically develop and numerically validate an asymmetric linear bilateral control model (LBCM) , in which the motion information (e.g., position and speed) from the immediate leading vehicle and the immediate following vehicle of a subject vehicle in an automated vehicle platoon are weighted differently to determine the control inputs to the subject vehicle. The novelty of the asymmetric LBCM is that using this model all the follower vehicles in a platoon can adjust their acceleration and deceleration to closely follow a constant desired time gap to improve platoon operational efficiency while maintaining local and string stability. We theoretically analyze the local stability of the asymmetric LBCM using the condition for asymptotic stability of a linear time-invariant system and prove the string stability of the asymmetric LBCM using a space gap error attenuation approach. Then, we evaluate the efficacy of the asymmetric LBCM by simulating a closely coupled cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) platoon of fully automated trucks in various non-linear acceleration and deceleration states. We choose automated truck platooning as a case study since heavy-duty trucks experience higher delays and lags in the powertrain system, and limited acceleration and deceleration capabilities than passenger cars. To evaluate the platoon operational efficiency of the asymmetric LBCM, we compare the performance of the asymmetric LBCM to a baseline model, i.e., the symmetric LBCM, for different powertrain delays and lags. Our analyses showed that the asymmetric LBCM can handle any combined powertrain delays and lags up to 0.6 sec while maintaining a constant desired time gap during a stable platoon operation, whereas the symmetric LBCM fails to ensure stable platoon operation as well as maintain a constant desired time gap for any combined powertrain delays and lags over 0.2 sec. These findings demonstrate the potential of the asymmetric LBCM in improving platoon operational efficiency and stability of an automated truck platoon.

Stability of short memory fractional-order hybrid systems

The stability theory of short memory fractional-order hybrid systems is studied in this article. Sufficient conditions of asymptotic stability and ultimately bounded stability for the nonliear short memory fractional-order hybrid systems are proposed respectively. For the convenience of application, a convenient criterion of stability for the nonliear short memory fractional-order hybrid systems is derived in the study. Demonstrative examples are given to verify the correctness of the proposed theorems in the part of simulation.

Insights on equidistributed real spectral values in second-order delay systems: Perspectives in partial pole placement

In this work, we show that the coexistence of the maximal number of real spectral values of generic single-delay retarded second-order differential equations guarantees the realness of the rightmost spectral value. From a control theory standpoint, this entails that a delayed proportional-derivative (PD) controller can stabilize a delayed second-order differential equation. By assigning the maximum number of negative roots to the corresponding characteristic function (a quasipolynomial), we establish the conditions for asymptotic stability. If the assigned real spectral values are uniformly distributed, we specify a necessary and sufficient condition for the rightmost root to be negative, thus guaranteeing the exponential decay rate of the system’s solutions. We illustrate the proposed design methodology in the delayed PD control of the damped harmonic oscillator. It is worth mentioning that this work represents a natural continuation of Amrane et al. (2018) and Bedouhene et al. (2020), addressing the problem of coexisting real spectral values for linear dynamical systems including delays in their models.

Event-triggered interval type-2 fuzzy control of networked systems with extended dissipative under Markovian switching

In this technical note, the problem of the extended dissipative control for interval type-2 fuzzy model with nonlinear network systems in the event-triggered framework is investigated. A novel dynamic event-triggered strategy is developed to ascertain the instants of activation. It has the advantage of reducing data transmission and optimising the utilisation of communication resources. On the basis of the proposed mechanism, the stochastic Lyapunov function including internal dynamic variables is constructed. Based on this function, coupled with the inequality scaling technique and the application of Dynkin's formula, we derive a sufficient condition for the system's stochastic asymptotic stability and extended dissipativity. The design of the dynamic event-triggered extended dissipative controller becomes challenging because the new sufficient condition is nonlinear for some matrix variables. However, utilising the Projection Lemma and the co-design approach, such a controller can be developed based on the obtained analysis result. The methodology is demonstrated through a rigorous numerical simulation case study.

Disturbance rejection design for repetitive control system with state delay based on equivalent input disturbance compensation

A modified equivalent-input-disturbance compensation method is investigated for repetitive control systems with state time delays, which achieve effective rejection of unknown disturbance and effective tracking control of periodic reference input. By incorporating the sliding mode observer into the equivalent-input-disturbance theory, the equivalent-input-disturbance estimator structure is determined. The structure presented in this work can effectively estimate the unknown disturbance without making use of the inverse model of the system. Moreover, an asymptotic stability condition is devised to ensure that the repetitive control systems are stable, as well as the corresponding controller gains are designed with the aim to guarantee the performance of the system to suppress unknown disturbances. Numerical example simulations demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the devise scheme.

An analysis on asymptotic stability of Hilfer fractional stochastic evolution equations with infinite delay

This article deals with the existence and asymptotic stability in the p-th moment of a mild solution for Hilfer fractional stochastic delay differential equations in Hilbert spaces. Our main results are obtained by fractional calculus, semigroup theory, stochastic analysis, and the Banach fixed point theorem. Further, a new set of sufficient conditions for existence and asymptotic stability in the p-th moment is derived with the help of a fixed point technique. Additionally, we provide an example to demonstrate the reliability of our results.

Event-Based Two-Step Transmission Mechanism for the Stabilization of Networked T-S Fuzzy Systems With Random Uncertainties.

This article studies an event-based two-step transmission mechanism (TSTM) in the control design for networked T-S fuzzy systems. The transmission task is achieved in two steps. Consecutive triggering packets are relabeled in the first step by applying a traditional event-triggered mechanism (ETM). Then a probabilistic approach is employed to determine which packet is a real release packet (RRP) in the second step. This event-based TSTM is particularly suitable for scenarios in which traditional ETMs are unable to determine which packets are redundant. By discarding most of the unnecessary data packets, especially when the system is tending toward stability, the burden on the network bandwidth is reduced. To establish a control strategy for T-S fuzzy-based nonlinear systems with random uncertainties, a new timing analysis technique is proposed. Additionally, the necessary conditions for a nonlinear system's mean-square asymptotic stability (MSAS) are derived. Finally, two practical applications demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested transmission mechanism in networked T-S fuzzy systems.

Asymptotic Stability of Neutral Differential Systems with Variable Delay and Nonlinear Perturbations

In this paper, the problem of asymptotic stability of a kind of nonlinear perturbed neutral differential system with variable delay is discussed. The Lyapunov-Krasovski\v{\i} functional constructed, is used to obtain conditions for asymptotic stability of the nonlinear perturbed neutral differential system in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI). The two new results (delay-independent and delay-dependent criteria) include and extend the existing results in the literature. Finally, an example of delay-dependent criteria is supplied and the simulation result is shown to justify the effectiveness and reliability of the used techniques.

A study of integrated pest management models with instantaneous and non-instantaneous impulse effects.

The occurrence of pests and diseases during agricultural production affects the quality and quantity of agricultural products. It is important to evaluate the impact of various factors on pests to achieve optimal results of integrated pest management (IPM) during its implementation. In this paper, we considered the transient and non-transient effects of chemical control on pests and the effects on natural enemies at different times, and developed a corresponding pest control model. Detailed studies and comparisons were conducted for spraying pesticides either more or less frequently as compared to strategies for releasing natural enemies. The threshold conditions for global asymptotic stabilization of the pest extinction period solution was obtained. Using two-parameter and sensitivity analysis techniques, the parameters affecting the variation of the threshold were discussed. By comparing these two pest control strategies, we found the existence of optimal application and release frequencies. Finally, in order to control pests below the economic threshold level, the state-dependent pest model was numerically investigated. The results show that the presence or absence of chemical control of pests can depend on the values taken for the parameters in the model. Based on this information, pest control experts can make decisions about the best spraying time and the best release rate.

Complex dynamics of a nonlinear impulsive control predator-prey model with Leslie-Gower and B-D functional response

&lt;abstract&gt;&lt;p&gt;A good pulse control strategy should depend on the numbers of pests and natural enemies as determined via an integrated pest control strategy. Taking this into consideration, here, a nonlinear impulsive predator-prey model with improved Leslie-Gower and Beddington-DeAngelis functional response terms is qualitatively analyzed. The existence of a periodic solution for pest eradication has been obtained and the critical condition of global asymptotic stability has been established by using the impulsive differential equation Floquet theory. Furthermore, the conditions for the lasting survival of the system has been proved by applying a comparison theorem for differential equations. Additionally, a stable positive periodic solution has been obtained by applying bifurcation theory. To understand how nonlinear pulses affect the dynamic behavior of a system, MATLAB was used to conduct numerical simulations to show that the model has very complex dynamical behavior.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/abstract&gt;
