Quality of Life (QoL) changes after orthognathic surgery: Do they correlate with the quantum of hard and soft tissue change?

Aim: To investigate the relationship between post orthognathic surgery changes in soft and hard tissue cephalometric variables in Class II and Class III patients and quality of life (QoL) measured using a condition-specific QoL questionnaire and to determine cephalometric predictors of the overall OQLQ after surgery. Methods: The sample included 50 orthodontic patients, 28 Class II and 22 Class III skeletal relationships whose treatment included orthognathic surgery. Correlations between cephalometric changes and Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) were tested by Pearson’s correlation. Multiple linear regression was used to determine cephalometric predictors of the overall OQLQ after surgery. Results: In Class II patients, OQLQ before surgery and changes in SNA were significant predictors for OQLQ after surgery. For Class III patients, OQLQ after surgery was significantly correlated with the change in mandibular plane angle and lower face height (r = 0.6 and r = 0.5 respectively). The decrease in facial angle was negatively correlated with OQLQ (r = -0.4). Mandibular plane angle, mandibular length, and OQLQ before surgery were significant predictors for OQLQ after surgery. Conclusion: QoL improved for Class II and III after orthognathic surgery. Changes in certain cephalometric measurements seem to predict quality of life after orthognathic surgery.

Validation of a quality of life measure (VIQoL) for adults living with vision impairment

Quality of life (QoL) measures are often used to assess the effectiveness of services and interventions. For individuals living with vision impairment (VI) this is potentially problematic, given that QoL is characteristically assessed using instruments designed with non-VI norms and may not accurately represent issues specifically associated with VI. Hence, the authors designed an instrument (Vision Impaired Quality of Life [VIQoL]) tailored for adults living with VI. This article reports on VIQoL’s psychometric properties and outlines its utility for the VI sector. Principal Axis Factoring (PAF) was used to assess VIQoL’s construct validity, conducted on a combined dataset of adults with VI ( n = 582), and adults without VI ( n = 1992). To assess factor integrity, analyses were conducted on these groups separately. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha. VIQoL display high construct validity and reliability. PAF analysis presented a two-factor solution: ‘functional confidence’ (items encompassing autonomy and frequent demands of life), and ‘personal flourishing’ (items related to affect and feeling). VIQoL is a valid and reliable tool for assessing QoL for people living with VI. It affords a basis for meaningful evaluations and insights into how differences in QoL are appraised by VI and non-VI populations; although factors were fundamentally similar, the importance of the two factors was reversed across the groups, which highlights the importance of condition-specific QoL measures and implies the need for research to assess other variables that can affect the QoL of people living with VI.

Association between patient-surgeon race and gender concordance and patient-reported outcomes following breast cancer surgery.

Surgeon- and patient-related factors have been shown to influence patient experiences, quality of life (QoL), and surgical outcomes. We examined the association between patient-surgeon race and gender concordance with QoL after breast reconstruction. We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of patients who underwent lumpectomy or mastectomy followed by breast reconstruction over a 3-year period. We created the following categories with respect to the race and gender of a patient-surgeon triad: no, intermediate, and perfect concordance. Multivariable regression was used to correlate postoperative global (SF-12) and condition-specific (BREAST-Q) QoL performance with patient-level covariates, gender and race concordance. We identified 375 patients with a mean (± SD) age of 57.6 ± 11.9years, median (IQR) body mass index of 27.5 (24.0, 32.0), and median morbidity burden of 3 (2, 4). The majority of encounters were of intermediate concordance for gender (70%) and race (52%). Compared with gender-discordant triads, intermediate gender concordance was associated with higher SF-Mental scores (β, 2.60; 95% CI, 0.21-4.99, p = 0.003). Perfect race concordance (35% of encounters) was associated with significantly higher adjusted SF-Physical scores (β, 2.14; 95% CI, 0.50-4.22, p = 0.045) than the race-discordant group. There were no significant associations observed between race or gender concordance and BREAST-Q performance. Race-concordant relationships following breast cancer surgery were more likely to have improved global QoL. Perfect gender concordance was not associated with variation in QoL outcomes. Policy-level interventions are needed to facilitate personalized care and optimize breast cancer surgery outcomes.

Health-related quality of life in Italian children and adolescents with congenital heart diseases

BackgroundCongenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital anomaly at birth, affecting approximately 1% of live births. In recent decades great medical and surgical advances have significantly increased life expectancy, shifting healthcare professionals' and researchers’ interests in patients' Quality of Life (QoL). The main aims of our study were to evaluate generic and condition-specific QoL in a group of Italian children and adolescents with CHD and their parents and examine the level of agreement and directional disagreement between child/adolescent and parents reports on generic and condition-specific QoL.MethodsA cross-sectional study was designed with CHD children and adolescents and their parents referred to the Cardiology Department of “Bambino Gesù” Children’s Hospital. The PedsQL scale was used, including generic (PedsQL 4.0) and cardiac-specific modules (PedsQL 3.0) were administered to patients and caregivers. A Kruskal–Wallis test was used to compare generic and cardiac module scores between patients with different ages, CHD diagnoses, and between patients who underwent surgery interventions and/or are currently taking cardiac medications.Results498 families were enrolled in this study. On average, patients reported a good level of generic and condition-specific QoL, as well as their mothers and fathers. Children aged between 5–7 years old reported lower generic and cardiac-specific total QoL levels than children aged 8–12 years and adolescents (13–18 years). With regard to the agreement, patient-parent agreement on condition-specific QoL ranged from 25 to 75% while on generic QoL, it ranged from 19 to 76%. The highest percentage of disagreement between parents and children was found in patients aged 5–7 years old, both for condition-specific and generic QoL rates.ConclusionsOur study contributed to the growing body of knowledge on QoL in CHD, emphasizing the need for these families to receive support from multidisciplinary standardized care, including psychological consultations and support.

A Community-Based Education Program for Overactive Bladder in a Predominantly Minority Older Female Population: A Pilot Study

Introduction: Knowledge gaps regarding available treatment and social stigmatization are barriers to care in patients with overactive bladder (OAB). We assessed the feasibility of an OAB education program targeting older community-dwelling females. Methods: Community-dwelling women over 55 years old were recruited. Eligible participants underwent an education program covering continence-promotion strategies. The Overactive Bladder Questionnaire-Short Form and Short Form-12 were completed at baseline, 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months post-intervention to measure symptom bother and condition-specific and general quality of life (QoL). Data were analyzed using a linear mixed-effects model for repeated measures. Results: Thirty-seven female patients with OAB symptoms at baseline were assessed with the majority from Latino/Hispanic or Black/African American ethnic/racial backgrounds. For our youngest subgroup (≤68 years old), significant improvements were observed at 3 and 6 months compared to 1 week post-intervention for symptom bother (3 months, −22.75, p = 0.006; 6 months, −25.76; p = 0.001) and condition-specific and health-related QoL subscale scores for concern (3 months, +23.76, p = 0.006; 6 months, +22.15, p = 0.011) and social interaction (3 months, +21.11, p = 0.017; 6 months, +20.51; p = 0.021). For all age subgroups, improvements in general QoL measures for mental health were seen at 3 and 6 months compared to baseline (3 months, +7.57, p = 0.02; 6 months, +6.70; p = 0.048). Conclusions: Statistically significant improvements in symptom bother, condition-specific, and general QoL measures were observed following an OAB education program pilot study in a predominantly minority female population. Further studies are needed to support efficacy and optimize program design.

Relevant impact of surgery on quality of life for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

To determine the value of scoliosis surgery, it is necessary to evaluate outcomes in domains that matter to patients. Since randomized trials on adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) are scarce, prospective cohort studies with comparable outcome measures are important. To enhance comparison, a core set of patient-related outcome measures is available. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of AIS fusion surgery at two-year follow-up using the core outcomes set. AIS patients were systematically enrolled in an institutional registry. In all, 144 AIS patients aged ≤ 25 years undergoing primary surgery (median age 15 years (interquartile range 14 to 17) were included. Patient-reported (condition-specific and health-related quality of life (QoL); functional status; back and leg pain intensity) and clinician-reported outcomes (complications, revision surgery) were recorded. Changes in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were analyzed using Friedman's analysis of variance. Clinical relevancy was determined using minimally important changes (Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)-22r), cut-off values for relevant effect on functioning (pain scores) and a patient-acceptable symptom state (PASS; Oswestry Disability Index). At baseline, 65 out of 144 patients (45%) reported numerical rating scale (NRS) back pain scores > 5. All PROMs significantly improved at two-year follow-up. Mean improvements in SRS-22r function (+ 1.2 (SD 0.6)), pain (+ 0.6 (SD 0.8)), and self-image (+ 1.1 (SD 0.7)) domain scores, and the SRS-22r total score (+ 0.5 (SD 0.5)), were clinically relevant. At two-year follow-up, 14 out of 144 patients (10%) reported NRS back pain > 5. Surgical site infections did not occur. Only one patient (0.7%) underwent revision surgery. Relevant improvement in functioning, condition-specific and health-related QoL, self-image, and a relevant decrease in pain is shown at two-year follow-up after fusion surgery for AIS, with few adverse events. Contrary to the general perception that AIS is a largely asymptomatic condition, nearly half of patients report significant preoperative back pain, which reduced to 10% at two-year follow-up. Generic Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients Seeking Care for Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Using the American Urogynecologic Society multicenter Pelvic Floor Disorder Registry for Research, we (1) compared generic quality of life (QOL) in women planning pelvic organ prolapse (POP) treatment (surgery vs pessary), (2) correlated generic and condition-specific QOL scores, and (3) identified associations between generic QOL and other factors. This cross-sectional analysis assessed generic physical and mental QOL using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Global Health Scale at baseline. Global Physical and Mental T-scores center on a representative US population sample (mean [SD], 50 [10]; higher scores, better health). Condition-specific QOL was assessed with Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory, Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire, and POP/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Function Questionnaire. Linear regression models identified associations between clinical factors and Global Physical/Mental scores. Five hundred sixty-eight women (419 surgery, 149 pessary) were included. Surgery patients were younger, heavier, and more often sexually active (all P's ≤ 0.01). Global Physical scores were lower in the surgery versus pessary group, but not likely clinically meaningful (mean [SD], 48.8 [8.1] vs 50.4 [8.5]; P = 0.035); Global Mental scores were similar (51.4 [8.4] vs 51.9 [9.5], P = 0.56). Global Health scores correlated with Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory, Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire, and POP/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Function Questionnaire scores (all P's < 0.0001). In multivariable models, menopause was associated with better physical QOL, and constipation, coronary artery disease, pelvic pain, and increased body mass index with worse physical QOL. Age was associated with better mental QOL, and constipation, fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, and coronary artery disease with worse mental QOL. Women choosing POP surgery versus pessary had similar physical and mental generic QOL.

Influence of Orthognathic Surgery on Oral Health and Quality of Life

Orthognathic surgery is a common treatment modality for moderate to severe dentofacial deformities. This study aimed to determine the early postoperative changes in quality of life (QoL) after orthognathic surgery.Twenty patients were evaluated preoperatively (T0), postoperatively after 1 month (T1), and postoperatively after 3 months (T2). Short Form Oral Health Impact Profile and Orthognathic Quality of life Questionnaire were used as generic oral health-related and condition-specific QoL measures.Oral Health Impact Profile -14 and Orthognathic Quality of life Questionnaire scores significantly decreased from T0-T2. Physical pain, psychological disability, social disability, and handicap scores significantly decreased during this interval. Facial esthetic, function, awareness of facial deformity, and social aspects of deformity were also found to significantly improve. No significant difference was found between age groups; female patients had significantly greater preoperative Oral Health Impact Profil-14 scores than did male patients.Orthognathic surgery not only enhances the skeletal and facial relations, but also has significant positive effects on the patients' QoL, oral health, and psychological status.

Feasibility and Concurrent Validity of Cerebral Palsy Quality of Life for Children (CP QOL-Child) in Thai Version

Background: The Cerebral Palsy Quality of Life for Children (CP QOL-Child) questionnaires are condition-specific QOL measures for children with CP focusing on perspectives of children with CP on their quality of life, not on their physical difficulties. The perspectives of well-being are core concepts of quality of life. The CP QOL-Child has already been translated in Thai and the reliability is excellent. The validity after the translation has not been conducted and is required. therefore, it is needed to examine the validity to ensure the clinical practicality. Objective: To examine feasibility and concurrent validity of the CP QOL-Child (Thai version). Materials and Methods: Eighty-five primary caregivers of 4- to 12-year-old children and 65 children between 9- and 12-years-old, who passed the inclusion criteria, completed three questionnaires including the CP QOL-Child (Thai version), the PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales, and the PedsQL 3.0 CP module (Thai version). Results: For feasibility of the CP QOL-Child, no missing items were found in any items for the child self-report. For parent proxy report, missing items were scattered and from 1.2% to 7.1%. For concurrent validity, according to the total scores of both versions, the self-report and the parent proxy, the correlation coefficients between CP QOL-Child and PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales were 0.23 to 0.25 meaning no or little correlations, at significance level of 0.05. The correlation coefficients between the CP QOL-Child and the PedsQL CP module were 0.38 to 0.49, meaning fair correlations, at significance level of 0.01. Conclusion: The feasibility of the CP QOL-Child (Thai version) was reportedly acceptable. The concurrent validity support that the CP QOL-Child may not measure the quality of life at the same constructs as the PedsQL. The CP QOL-Child asks the client’s perspectives of quality of life (QOL) while both PedsQL modules ask the client’s difficulties that might relate to QOL. Pelvic organ prolapse surgery and health-related quality of life: a follow-up study

BackgroundSymptomatic prolapse impairs quality of life. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is considered an important outcome of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery. However, it is rarely reported, and measures are inadequately used. Thus, studies reporting patient-reported surgical outcomes in low-income contexts are needed. This study aims to evaluate the effect of prolapse surgery on patient HRQoL and determine the predictive factors for change in HRQoL.MethodsA total of 215 patients who had prolapse stage III or IV were enrolled. Patients underwent vaginal native tissue repair, and their HRQoL was evaluated at baseline, 3 and 6 months postoperatively. Effect of surgery on subjective outcomes were measured using validated Prolapse Quality of Life (P-QoL-20), Prolapse Symptom Score (POP-SS), Body Image in Prolapse (BIPOP), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and Patient Global Index of Improvement (PGI-I) tools. A linear mixed-effect model was used to compare pre- and postoperative P-QoL scores and investigate potential predictors of the changes in P-QoL scores.ResultsIn total, 193 (89.7%) patients were eligible for analysis at 3 months, and 185 (86.0%) at 6 months. Participant’s mean age was 49.3 ± 9.4 years. The majority of patients had prolapse stage III (81.9%) and underwent vaginal hysterectomy (55.3%). All domains of P-QoL improved significantly after surgery. Altogether more than 72% of patients reported clinically meaningful improvement in condition-specific quality of life measured with P-QoL-20 at 6 months. An improvement in POP-SS, BIPOP, and the PHQ-9 scores were also observed during both follow-up assessments. At 6 months after surgery, only 2.7% of patients reported the presence of bulge symptoms. A total of 97.8% of patients had reported improvement in comparison to the preoperative state, according to PGI-I. The change in P-QoL score after surgery was associated with the change in POP-SS, PHQ, BIPOP scores and marital status (p < 0.001). However, age, type of surgery, and prolapse stage were not associated with the improvement of P-QoL scores.ConclusionsSurgical repair for prolapse effectively improves patient’s HRQoL, and patient satisfaction is high. The result could be useful for patient counselling on the expected HRQoL outcomes of surgical treatment. Surgical service should be accessible for patients suffering from POP to improve HRQoL.

Correlation Between Financial Toxicity, Quality of Life, and Patient Satisfaction in an Insured Population of Breast Cancer Surgical Patients: A Single-Institution Retrospective Study

The relationship between treatment-related, cost-associated distress "financial toxicity" (FT) and quality-of life (QOL) in breast cancer patients remains poorly characterized. This study leverages validated patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) to analyze the association between FT and QOL and satisfaction among women undergoing ablative breast cancer surgery. This is a single-institution cross-sectional survey of all female breast cancer patients (>18 years old) who underwent lumpectomy or mastectomy between January 2018 and June 2019. FT was measured via the 11-item COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity (COST) instrument. The BREAST-Q and SF-12 were used to asses condition-specific and global QOL, respectively. Responses were linked with demographic and clinical data. Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariable regression were used to examine associations. Our analytical sample consisted of 532 patients; mean age 58, mostly white (76.7%), employed (63.7%), married/committed (73.7%), with 64.3% undergoing reconstruction. Median household income was $80,000 to $120,000/year, and mean COST score was 28.0. After multivariable adjustment, a positive relationship for all outcomes was noted; lower COST (greater cost-associated distress) was associated with lower BREAST-Q and SF-12 scores. This relationship was strongest for BREAST-Q psychosocial well-being, for which we observed a 0.89 (95% CI 0.76-1.03) change per unit change in COST score. Financial toxicity captured in this study correlates with statistically significant and clinically important differences in BREAST-Q psychosocial well-being, patient satisfaction with reconstructed breasts, and SF-12 global mental and physical quality of life. Treatment costs should be included in the shared decision-making for breast cancer surgery. Future prospective outcomes research should integrate COST.

Clinical and cost-effectiveness of vaginal pessary self-management compared to clinic-based care for pelvic organ prolapse: protocol for the TOPSY randomised controlled trial

BackgroundPelvic organ prolapse (or prolapse) is a common condition in women where the pelvic organs (bladder, bowel or womb) descend into the vagina and cause distressing symptoms that adversely affect quality of life. Many women will use a vaginal pessary to treat their prolapse symptoms. Clinic-based care usually consists of having a pessary fitted in a primary or secondary care setting, and returning approximately every 6 months for healthcare professional review and pessary change. However, it is possible that women could remove, clean and re-insert their pessary themselves; this is called self-management. This trial aims to assess if self-management of a vaginal pessary is associated with better quality of life for women with prolapse when compared to clinic-based care.MethodsThis is a multicentre randomised controlled trial in at least 17 UK centres. The intervention group will receive pessary self-management teaching, a self-management information leaflet, a follow-up phone call and access to a local telephone number for clinical support. The control group will receive the clinic-based pessary care which is standard at their centre. Demographic and medical history data will be collected from both groups at baseline. The primary outcome is condition-specific quality of life at 18 months’ post-randomisation. Several secondary outcomes will also be assessed using participant-completed questionnaires. Questionnaires will be administered at baseline, 6, 12 and 18 months’ post-randomisation. An economic evaluation will be carried out alongside the trial to evaluate cost-effectiveness. A process evaluation will run parallel to the trial, the protocol for which is reported in a companion paper.DiscussionThe results of the trial will provide robust evidence of the effectiveness of pessary self-management compared to clinic-based care in terms of improving women’s quality of life, and of its cost-effectiveness.Trial registrationISRCTN Registry ISRCTN62510577. The TOPSY pessary self-management intervention for pelvic organ prolapse: a study protocol for the process evaluation

BackgroundProcess evaluations have become a valued component, alongside clinical trials, of the wider evaluation of complex health interventions. They support understanding of implementation, and fidelity, related to the intervention and provide valuable insights into what is effective in a practical setting by examining the context in which interventions are implemented. The TOPSY study consists of a large multi-centre randomised controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of pessary self-management with clinic-based care in improving women’s condition-specific quality of life, and a nested process evaluation. The process evaluation aims to examine and maximise recruitment to the trial, describe intervention fidelity and explore participants’ and healthcare professionals’ experiences.MethodsThe trial will recruit 330 women from approximately 17 UK centres. The process evaluation uses a mixed-methods approach. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with randomised women (18 per randomised group/n = 36), women who declined trial participation but agreed to interview (non-randomised women) (n = 20) and healthcare professionals recruiting to the trial (n ~ 17) and delivering self-management and clinic-based care (n ~ 17). The six internal pilot centres will be asked to record two to three recruitment discussions each (total n = 12–18). All participating centres will be asked to record one or two self-management teaching appointments (n = 30) and self-management 2-week follow-up telephone calls (n = 30). Process data (quantitative and qualitative) will be gathered in participant completed trial questionnaires. Interviews will be analysed thematically and recordings using an analytic grid to identify fidelity to the intervention. Quantitative analysis will be predefined within the process evaluation analysis plan.DiscussionThe wide variety of pessary care delivered across the UK for women with pelvic organ prolapse presents specific localised contexts in which the TOPSY interventions will be implemented. Understanding this contextual variance is central to understanding how and in what circumstances pessary self-management can be implemented (should it be effective). The inclusion of non-randomised women provides an innovative way of collecting indispensable information about eligible women who decline trial participation, allowing broader contextualisation and considerations of generalisability of trial findings. Methodological insights from examination of recruitment processes and mechanisms have the potential to inform recruitment mechanisms and future recruitment strategies and study designs.Trial registrationISRCTN62510577. Conventional thyroidectomy vs thyroid thermal ablation on postoperative quality of life and satisfaction for patients with benign thyroid nodules.

The complications and treatment effects of conventional thyroidectomy and thyroid thermal ablation should be compared in order to identify the best intervention for patients with benign thyroid nodules. Patients (18-50 years old) who had benign thyroid nodules and were eligible for both thyroidectomy and thyroid thermal ablation were randomly allocated (1:1) to either conventional thyroidectomy group or thyroid thermal ablation group. Patients' satisfaction and condition-specific quality of life were measured with the Thyroid-Specific Quality-of-Life Questionnaire Scale (QoL) at the 15th post-randomization month and were set as the co-primary outcome. A total of 450 patients were enrolled and randomized (225 patients in each group). At the 15th month after randomization, more patients in the thyroid thermal ablation group were satisfied with the treatment effects compared to those in the conventional thyroidectomy group. More patients in the thyroid thermal ablation group have a QoL score of 410 (QOL scores ranges from 0 to 410) than patients in conventional thyroidectomy. Eight (4%) of the 209 patients in conventional thyroidectomy group and 6 (3%) of the 208 patients in thyroid thermal ablation group had at least one severe postoperative complication. The time to achieve volume reduction was longer in the thermal ablation group. Thyroid thermal ablation is superior to conventional thyroidectomy in terms of patients satisfaction, post-operative quality of life, and shorter hospital stay but takes longer to achieve BTNs volume reduction. The complication rates between the two groups were similar.

Mental Health and Family Functioning in Patients and Their Family Members after Traumatic Brain Injury: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects the family as a whole. This study aimed to describe and compare mental health and family functioning in TBI patients and their family members, and to identify individual and family-related factors that were associated with mental health. It was conducted at an urban, specialized, TBI outpatient clinic and included 61 patients with mild to severe TBI and 63 family members. Baseline demographics and injury-related data were collected, and the participants answered standardized, self-reported questionnaires 6–18 months post-injury that assessed mental health; general health; family functioning, communication, and satisfaction; depression and anxiety; self-efficacy; resilience; and condition-specific quality of life. The patients reported significantly worse mental health, depression, resilience, self-efficacy, and general health compared with the family members. Patients and family members had similar perceptions, showing balanced family functioning, high family communication levels, and moderate family satisfaction. Factors significantly associated with mental health in patients and family members were depression, anxiety, and resilience, explaining 56% of the variance (p < 0.001). Family-related factors were not associated with mental health. The disease burden was mainly on the patients; however, the family members also reported emotional distress. Family-targeted interventions across the TBI continuum should be considered.

Short-, mid-, and long-term incontinence outcomes in women undergoing mid-urethral sling procedures: a retrospective cohort study.

The primary aim was to compare subjective treatment success among women in short-, mid-, and long-term follow-up after mid-urethral sling (MUS). Symptom severity, condition-specific quality of life (QOL), and patient satisfaction were also examined. Women undergoing a primary MUS between 2001 and 2010 were identified by CPT code. Eligible subjects were mailed the Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6), Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7), Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I), and Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ). Follow-up intervals were short term (≤ 36months), mid term (37-70months), and long term (119-200months). The primary outcome of treatment success was defined as responses of "not at all" or "somewhat" to both stress urinary incontinence (SUI) subscales on the UDI-6. Of 896 respondents, 361 were assessed in the short-term (23.3 ± 7.2months), 251 in the mid-term (49.8 ± 9.1months), and 284 in the long-term group (147.9 ± 20.6months). Treatment success was 75.4% in the short-, 62.3% in the mid-, and 67.0% in the long-term groups (p < 0.01). Logistic regression showed women with mid- and long-term follow-up were nearly half as likely as their short-term counterparts to report treatment success (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 0.51, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.36, 0.74). UDI-6 and PFIQ-7 scores differed significantly among the short-, mid- and long-term groups (p < 0.01). Patient satisfaction was similar, 83.3% in the short-, 76.6% in the mid-, and 78.2% in the long-term follow-up (p = 0.31). Women with short-term follow-up had the highest subjective treatment success rates; mid- and long-term follow-up was lower, but sustained after 3years. Symptom severity and impact on QOL were lowest in the short-term group. However, high satisfaction was noted across all groups.
