Education is closely related to learning activities. In the entire educational process at school, learning activities are the most basic activities, which means that the success or failure of achieving educational goals depends on the learning process experienced by students as students in each school. In social studies learning, teachers are not only required to provide knowledge to students in mastering concepts related to social life and the environment. More than that, social studies teachers are expected to be able to equip students to make efforts to increase their knowledge. Therefore, thr role of teacher in improve social studies learning in elementary schools are very important to build an advanced generation in the future. he aim of this research is to increase students' interest in learning social studies in elementary schools. This research methodology uses a qualitative approach with the type of research being library research. The results of this research show that the teacher's role in increasing students' interest in learning in social studies subjects includes the use of media, organizing the class and stimulating to create an attitude of student participation in social studies subjects from all the teacher's roles above, that what they do is in accordance with the model participatory learning. There are several factors that support teachers when learning, including: the best possible and effective use of technology, good emotional condition of students, supportive environmental conditions, good quality teachers. And some of the inhibiting factors include a distance learning system that is less effective, technological constraints, namely slow internet network, poor emotional condition

The adverse dyadic friendship (ADF): An exploratory retrospective view of female adolescents.

Friendships of adolescent girls play a significant role in providing socio-emotional support and enabling the attainment of developmental tasks. The present exploratory paper focuses on an aspect of close friendships that has yet to be widely examined, which we described as the Adverse Dyadic Friendship (ADF). This is a friendship whose negative elements are perceived from the distance of time as outweighing its positive ones. To examine the features of ADF, a qualitative study based on retrospective data obtained from 34 young adult females (Mage = 31.14, SD = 5.59) was conducted in Israel. Using a semi-structured online questionnaire, participants were asked to address a specific close same-sex friendship they had during their middle or high school years that has negatively affected them. The emerging themes (such as negative feelings and various coping strategies) suggest that ADF comprises an intense emotional condition, having implications on the development of individuals' self-perception. The consequences of ADF may be detrimental to adolescent girls' self-worth and friendship skills and extend into their adult life. Whereas the developmental literature emphasizes the positive aspects of friendship for adolescent girls, this study points out how ADF can also become a developmental challenge for them: on the one hand, ADF comprises a risk factor for their socio-emotional development, and on the other hand, presents an opportunity to learn and introduce changes in their lives. The main contribution of this paper is that ADF can stimulate further research on the complex aspects of friendship between adolescent girls.

Health Behavioural Status of Gender Differences in Older People

Aging is a universal phenomenon with no single definition, varying across cultures, time, and space. The health and well-being of older adults are significantly influenced by their behaviors, which often vary by gender. These differences can impact physical health, mental health, and overall quality of life. This study explores the health behavioral status of older adults, focusing on gender differences and how these disparities affect their health indicators. Such changes impact the health status of older people, making it harder for them to manage daily tasks and access healthcare. Conducted in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, Kailali District, Nepal, this study aims to understand the socio-economic and health status of older people. Objectives include examining gender differences in health behavior among the elderly in this region. Gender differences in health behaviors among older adults significantly impact their health. Women engage more in preventive behaviors and seek healthcare services, while men engage in riskier behaviors and underutilize services. Understanding these differences is crucial for developing effective, gender-specific interventions to improve older adults' health and well-being. Gender differences were significant, with males showing a higher percentage of better health compared to females, and females showing slightly higher rates of bad health compared to males. Vision problems were prevalent, with a majority reporting no issues, some reporting minor problems, and a smaller portion having normal vision. Significant vision problems were reported by a notable fraction of respondents. Respiratory diseases were more prevalent among males than females, indicating a significant gender association. Gout or knee pain was more common in females than males, also showing a significant gender difference. Diabetes affected a larger portion of males compared to females, indicating a significant gender association. Blood pressure issues were slightly more prevalent in males compared to females, showing a significant gender association. Emotional health conditions such as grief, depression, and sadness showed significant gender differences, with females more likely to experience these issues.

Child care for young children with disabilities.

More than half (56%) of Canadian children aged 0 to 5 years are in non-parental child care, but data on child care attendance among children with disabilities is limited. This study examines child care participation among young children with disabilities in Canada, with a focus on different disability types. Analyses were conducted on 1,189 children aged 0 to 5 years identified with disabilities from Statistics Canada's 2023 Survey on Early Learning and Child Care Arrangements - Children with Long-term Conditions and Disabilities. Rates of child care participation, difficulties finding child care, difficulties within child care, and whether parents reported that their child had ever been denied a child care space because of their condition were examined. Logistic regression models tested for differences in the main child care arrangement and difficulty finding child care based on the child's disability while controlling for sociodemographic variables. Among children aged 0 to 5 years with disabilities, 45% attended a daycare centre, preschool, centre de la petite enfance, or before or after school care as their main child care arrangement; 17% attended another type of child care, such as a family child care home or care by a relative; and 38% did not regularly attend non-parental child care. The parents of nearly half of children with disabilities reported difficulty finding a child care arrangement, particularly for children with emotional conditions. Close to 1 in 10 parents of children with disabilities who were using child care reported that their child had been denied a child care space because of their condition. These findings highlight the need for information to support inclusive policies, practices, and resources for children with disabilities within the Canada-wide early learning and child care system.

A study of the relationship between human thermal comfort and negative emotions in quarantine environments

The thermal environment is closely related to emotion. The thermal environment affects emotional experiences and can enhance them by adjusting its parameters. This study examines three common negative emotions—boredom, anxiety, and irritability—in a controlled environment. We experimentally investigated how these emotions affect thermal sensation, thermal comfort, and physiological parameters under varying temperature and humidity conditions. Results indicated that emotions significantly influenced thermal sensation (TSV) and thermal comfort (TCV) under moderate to high humidity conditions, demonstrating how temperature and humidity moderate the relationship between emotion and thermal comfort. Changes in physiological parameters further reveal how the interaction between emotion and environmental conditions affects physiological responses. A regression model was created using the response surface method to analyze thermal comfort in relation to temperature and humidity under different emotions, identifying the optimal indoor conditions as 22.8 °C and 46.7 % humidity. These findings help reduce negative emotions, improve thermal comfort, enhance our understanding of human thermal comfort, and provide scientific guidance for managing negative emotions during public health emergencies.

‘Shultsloze Ferpeynikte Neshomes’ – ‘Vulnerable, Tormented Souls’: Gendered Wounds, Sexualized Violence, and Jewish Masculinity in the Yiddish Testimonies of the Sonderkommando in Auschwitz-Birkenau

ABSTRACT This article focuses on an eyewitness account titled ‘Di 3000 Nakete’ – ‘The 3000 Naked Ones’ by Leyb Langfus, which is part of the Yiddish testimonies of the Sonderkommando. My case study aims to engage with the issues of gendered violence (sexualized, physical, psychological, and spiritual) and the male gaze. The article explores the dynamics between the male Sonderkommando members and the female prisoners, arguing that the men responded to the tormented women within the context of their Jewish masculinity. This response was ambiguous and contradictory, communicating their power as well as their despair and powerlessness. Narratives of Jewish masculinity during the Khurbm often neglect to evaluate the range of Jewish male victims’ responses and choices. In his text, Langfus aims to comprehend the mental and emotional conditions in which the Sonderkommando prisoners and the female prisoners found themselves, illustrating the interactions between the two groups. I argue that the Yiddish Sonderkommando testimonies exemplify the intricate and ambivalent nature of Jewish masculinity. They provide a complex example of how gender influences one’s understanding of acts of violence, including the roles of both perpetrators and victims. The responses of the Jewish male Sonderkommando challenge our current perceptions and assumptions about Jewish masculinity during the Khurbm.

Impaired Social Attention and Cognitive Empathy in a Paediatric Sample of Children with Symptoms of Anxiety.

Impairments in social cognition, in particular empathy, have been associated with childhood psychopathology, though previous investigations have yielded inconsistent results. Measures of social attention can reveal processes involved in responses to emotional stimuli and highlight deficits in empathy, or emotional biases in those with anxiety. The current study examined symptoms of anxiety, cognitive and affective empathy scores, and eye-gaze patterns in a pediatric sample of children (n = 178; 51-98 months-old) referred by their teachers for emerging psychopathology symptoms at school. We used eye-tracking metrics to capture gaze patterns during a dynamic video task designed to elicit empathic responses. Anxiety symptomology was reported by parents using the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders scale (SCARED). Associations between eye-tracking variables, cognitive and affective empathy, and anxiety scores were analysed dimensionally in accordance with the Research and Domain Criteria (RDoC) framework. Higher levels of anxiety were associated with lower cognitive empathy and shorter first and total fixation durations to the eyes, across emotions (happiness, sadness, fear). No such associations were found between affective empathy and anxiety. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that across emotion conditions, first fixation duration negatively predicted anxiety scores. Our results indicate that children high in anxiety display cognitive empathy impairments and shorter attention to the eyes. These findings could inform early intervention programs for individuals at risk of developing anxiety disorders, as educating those high in anxiety on ways to identify emotions in others through changes in social attention could help to reduce anxiety.

Auditor mood and audit quality: evidence from music sentiment measure

Purpose Extant studies propose music sentiment as a novel measure of individuals’ sentiment. These studies argue that individuals’ choice of music reflects their emotional condition in real time and influences their cognitive ability, making it a powerful tool for assessing their mood. This study aims to use music sentiment as a proxy for auditors’ mood and explore its impact on audit quality. Design/methodology/approach A sample of the US firms from 2017 to 2020 is used in the study. The authors apply the ordinary least squares regressions and the logit regressions to the audit quality models. The authors use absolute discretionary accruals and the propensity to meet or beat earnings forecasts as proxies for audit quality and calculate a stream-weighted average sentiment measure for Spotify’s Top-200 songs of each day during the audit period of a client firm to capture the sentiment of auditors. Findings The authors find that music sentiment is positively associated with audit quality. The result is consistent with the mood maintenance hypothesis, which suggests that a positive mood can induce auditors to be more careful in risky situations. Furthermore, the result is robust to various sensitivity analyses. Originality/value The study contributes to the scarce literature that focuses on auditors’ emotional state and highlights the importance of monitoring auditor mindset during the audit period.

The Role of Social Determinants of Health in Self-Reported Psychological Distress among United States Adults Post-COVID-19 Pandemic.

Psychological distress, an emotional condition with symptoms of anxiety and depression, leads to impaired function, behavior, and personal traits. The current study examined the association between social determinants of health and the severity of psychological distress among adults in the United States after the COVID-19 pandemic. Using multinomial multivariable logistic regression, we analyzed data from 5106 (n = 5106) participants in the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) 6. Compared to non-Hispanic Whites, African Americans (AOR = 0.62, CI = 0.42-0.93) had lower odds of reporting mild psychological distress rather than no stress. Other variables associated with a higher likelihood of reporting moderate to severe psychological distress, rather than no distress, are being in the 50-64 years age group (AOR = 2.77, CI = 1.45-5.28), divorced (AOR = 2.50, CI = 1.70-3.69), and widowed (AOR = 3.78, CI = 2.15-6.64). Respondents living in an urban area had lower odds of reporting moderate to severe psychological distress (AOR = 0.56, CI = 0.39-0.80) compared to those living in rural areas. Our findings identify several risk factors for psychological distress by sociodemographic characteristics such as age, race, marital status, and urban living, providing empirical evidence for interventions in behavioral health. These findings suggest there is an utmost need for a multi-sectoral approach to address the social determinants of health associated with psychological distress post-COVID-19 pandemic.

How emotions grasp value

AbstractIt's plausible that we only fully appreciate the value of something, say a painting or a blameworthy action, when we have a fitting emotional response to it, such as admiration or guilt. But exactly how and why do we grasp value through emotion? I propose, first, that a subject S phenomenally grasps property P only if what it is to be P is manifest in the phenomenal character of S's experience. Second, following clues from the Stoics, I argue that the phenomenal character of emotional experience is constitutively linked with its having directive content. More precisely, emotional experience directs us both to adopt a maxim for action – take certain characteristic kinds of action for an emotion‐specific end – and to treat something about the object as a presumptively decisive reason to take such action for such end. If we assent to what the experience proposes (or rational control gets bypassed), we are motivated to take the relevant action and have a corresponding evaluative belief. This picture of emotional cognition yields a natural conception of the evaluative fittingness conditions of emotions without the problematic assumption that they have a presentational phenomenology. Instead, it is precisely in virtue of the directive and valenced phenomenology of emotion that values are only fully manifest in emotional experience, since values are essentially action‐ and attitude‐guiding properties.

The Use of Audiovisual Distraction Tools in the Dental Setting for Pediatric Subjects with Special Healthcare Needs: A Review and Proposal of a Multi-Session Model for Behavioral Management.

A Special Health Care Need (SHCN) is characterized by any type of physical, mental, sensorial, cognitive, emotional, or developmental condition that requires medical treatment, specialized services, or healthcare interventions. These conditions can negatively impact oral health as SHCN children can hardly cooperate or communicate and experience higher levels of dental fear/anxiety, which interfere with regular appointments. The present narrative review aims to analyze the use of audiovisual (AV) tools in dental setting for the management of SHCN children during dental treatment and to evaluate their effectiveness in anxiety/behavior control from the child, dentist, and care-giver perspectives. This analysis leads to the proposal of a new multi-session model for the behavioral management of SHCN pediatric subjects. An electronic search on the MEDLINE/Pubmed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases was carried out and through this analysis, a new model was proposed, the "UNISA-Virtual Stepwise Distraction model", a multi-session workflow combining traditional behavior management and the progressive introduction of AV media to familiarize the SHCN child with dental setting and manage behavior. AV tools helped in most cases to manage SHCN behavior and decreased stress in both the dentist and child during dental treatments. Care-givers also welcomed AV distractors, reporting positive feedback in using them during future treatments. The present narrative review found increasing evidence of the use of AV media for SHCN pediatric subjects as distraction tools during dental treatment. In the majority of the studies, AV tools proved to be effective for the management of anxiety, dental fear, and behavior in dental setting.

Construction of Wushu Routine Training Program for Wellness Promotion in Secondary School Students

Background and Aim: As an important way of small and medium-sized sports communication, the current schools propose to stimulate the physical quality of middle school students in Wushu training. Wushu training is also to train primary and middle school students to enhance their physical fitness, enhance their self-confidence, and improve their emotional conditions. Therefore, the research goal of this paper is to promote the construction of healthy Wushu sports training programs for middle school students. The main research objects of this paper are middle school students. Research method: this study adopts the literature method, questionnaire method, and experimental comparison method of the exercise intervention of middle school students’ physique and mental health, in this paper, a total number of 50 students in Xianyang City, 50 were tested, and 30 could not be tested due to some reasons, such as lower limb injury, cardiopulmonary disease, and other symptoms. Result: After the eight-week Wushu routine exercise training intervention, the lung capacity increased (endurance quality), sitting forward flexion (flexibility quality), high leg lift (coordination ability), and 50 m short distance running (speed strength quality) were all improved and enhanced. the improvement of emotional state, self-confidence, and the improvement of anti-frustration ability to establish a sense of achievement reduce anxiety, and resist depression was significantly reduced. the subjects of lung capacity increase, flexibility, coordination, speed strength and aerobic endurance, anxiety, and depression mood significantly decreased. The results: the main ways to stimulate the physical quality of middle school students through Wushu routine training. It shows that wushu routine training can not only improve the physique of middle school students, but also promote mental health, and provides a certain basis for exercise training practice through exercise intervention experiments. Conclusion: After the eight-week Wushu routine training intervention, the lung capacity increased (endurance quality), sitting forward flexion (flexibility quality), high leg lift (coordination ability), and 50 m short distance running (speed strength quality) were all improved and enhanced. the improvement of emotional state, and self-confidence, and the improvement of anti-frustration ability to establish a sense of achievement reduces anxiety and resist depression was significantly reduced.

Exploring the Relationship between Health Habits, Procrastination, Technology Use, and Well-being among Chinese Students

Objectives: The study aims at showing the complex relationship between technology usage, procrastination, mental health, academic stress, sleeping quality, and well-being among the students in China. Through application of standardized survey questionnaire, primary data were gathered among diversified students. Methods: The study, accomplished through partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLSSEM), showed that mental health and procrastination had a significant direct effect of well-being, which highlighted a role of two factors in shaping the student psychological and emotional condition. Results: Among other factors, sleep quality was found to be a mediating link in the relationships between the student's mental health, procrastination, and sense of well-being, which points out the essence of good sleep attitude in the process of the student's well-being's promotion. Conclusion: This study has a number of both practical and theoretical implications as well. It adds to the existing body of knowledge on the relevant variables, and provides significant insights to the policymakers, Chinese institutes' management, government, and other stakeholders. Moreover, the findings add to the understanding of what affected the wellness of students, and their practical consequence means developing specific programs i. e., mental health management, procrastination and sleep quality improvement for this population.

Dukungan Keluarga terhadap Keyakinan Sembuh Pasien Tuberkulosis Resisten Obat (TB RO)

Patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) must undergo a heavy and prolonged treatment, which increases the chances of them defaulting on their medication. Family support is considered to help patients boost their treatment motivation. This study aims to examine the tendency of family support towards the healing beliefs of patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB RO). This is a cross-sectional study involving 50 patients with TB RO in the Special Region of Yogyakarta from 2016 to 2020, utilizing a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire. Patients with good family support tend to be confident in their recovery (84%), while 44% of patients with less family support are uncertain about their recovery. Family support may influence patients' recovery beliefs, depending on the emotional conditions they experience.

Together we win! Narratives of couples pursuing a healthy diet and physical activity: A qualitative study.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The risk of MetS can be transmitted via epigenetic processes from both the mother and the father. Therefore, it is essential that both members of a couple are targeted in pre-conception nutrition and physical activity-based lifestyle programs. However, lifestyle interventions targeting both members of a couple are scarce in the literature. This study, therefore, aimed to explore the barriers and facilitators of a couples-based lifestyle intervention. Nulliparous couples who had an interest in having children in the future were recruited to the study and each member interviewed separately to gain insight into to gain insight into designing future couples-based lifestyle interventions. Interviews were conducted between June and October 2021. Reflexive thematic analysis (RTA) was applied to conduct and analyse semi-structured, in-depth interviews with nulliparous couples who had an interest in having children in the future. Four major themes were identified in nine couples aged 25-34 years (here referred to as "millennials"): Millennials are committed to preparation for their future offspring; millennials know features of a good program likely to have high adherence and long-term behavior change; millennials acknowledge the importance of couples-based programs; and millennials appreciate that future global emergencies may require lifestyle modifications. This study found that millennial couples showed a strong intention to create optimal emotional, financial, and health conditions for their children. They supported couples-based approach (CBA) lifestyle interventions to mitigate potential epigenetic risks. Couples believed that participating together in these programs would enhance adherence to healthy habits, promoting long-term well-being. The findings advocate for exploring and testing CBA interventions that target both partners, as joint participation not only aids in healthy conception and reduces metabolic syndrome risks but also establishes a foundation for family health. These insights highlight the potential of CBA interventions to positively impact future generations.

Self-reference and emotional reaction drive aesthetic judgment

Traditional philosophical inquiry, and more recently neuroscientific studies, have investigated the sources of artworks' aesthetic appeal. A substantial effort has been made to isolate the objective features contributing to aesthetic appreciation. While variables such as contrast or symmetry have been shown to robustly impact aesthetic judgment, they only account for a small portion of the intersubjective variability in aesthetic ratings. Recent multiprocess model of aesthetic appreciation could accommodate this finding by proposing that evaluative processes based on self-reference underpin the idiosyncrasy of aesthetic judgment. We tested this hypothesis in two behavioral studies, that were basically conceptual replications of our previous work, in which we took advantage of the self-reference effect on memory. We also tried to disentangle the role of self-reference and emotional reaction to artworks in guiding aesthetic judgments, by comparing an aesthetic judgment encoding condition to a self-reference condition (Study 1), and an emotional evaluation condition (Study 2). We show that artworks encoded in an aesthetic judgment condition exhibit a similar mnesic advantage compared to both the self-reference and the emotional evaluation encoding conditions. Moreover, retrospective emotional judgment correlates with both self-reference and aesthetic judgments ratings. These results suggest that a basic mechanism, appraisal of self-relevance, could ground aesthetic judgments.

Emotional attitude and motives of dislike as predictors of discriminatory attitudes

The emotional attitude towards outgroup representatives may differ depending on the target of discrimination. Establishing the role of emotional relationships and the motivation of dislike in adherence to certain combined types of discriminatory attitudes will contribute to the development of measures to counteract them. The aim of the study is to establish emotional attitudes towards representatives of outgroups and the motives of dislike, which are predictors of discriminatory attitudes. The study involved 190 people of both sexes (men — 36.6%), aged 20–40 years. The survey methods of direct and indirect assessment of discriminatory attitudes, affective reactions towards representatives of discriminated groups, motives of dislike, methods of mathematical data processing (descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analyses, modeling method) were used. The combination of forms of emotional attitude and motivation in the prediction of types of discriminatory attitudes, as well as direct and indirect effects of emotional relationships on generalized forms of discriminatory attitudes, has been revealed. Anger and anxiety act as emotional attitudes towards representatives of outgroups, causing a general discriminatory attitude, while interest and disgust contribute to its reduction. The predictors of discriminatory attitudes towards socially vulnerable groups are fear (positive), interest and pity (negative); dissident groups — anger and fear; outsider groups — anger and disgust; social status groups — irritation and aggression (positive), disgust and interest (negative). The strongest motivational predictors of discriminatory attitudes are the motivation of competition in the labor market in the case of dissident, socially-status and even socially unprotected groups, as well as hostility based on an emotional attitude in the case of dissident and socially-outsider groups. Various emotional attitudes and motivations of rejection towards outgroup representatives explain a significant part of the dispersion of generalized forms of discriminatory attitudes. Generalized discriminatory attitudes are characterized by heterogeneous emotional conditioning and polymotivation.

Strategi Komunikasi Persuasif Guru dalam Meningkatkan Motivasi Belajar Siswa

Student motivation is the key to the success of an educational process, with fluctuations in motivation, whether increasing or decreasing, often being an internal factor of the student. However, teachers play a crucial role in supporting and enhancing student motivation. In efforts to increase student motivation, teachers employ persuasive communication to alter the understanding of students experiencing challenges in learning motivation. This study examines the persuasive communication strategies used by teachers at SD Islam Sinar Cendekia BSD to enhance student learning motivation. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and a case study method, data were collected through observations and interviews with teachers. The findings of the study indicate that before implementing persuasive communication, teachers are guided to understand the students' character so that the persuasive message aligns with the students' emotional conditions, which undoubtedly facilitates the teachers in providing examples or analogies to support the persuasive message. Additionally, teachers also align student character with the design and implementation of learning, the outcomes of which reflect the teachers' credibility in applying persuasive communication strategies

The Effect of Endorphine Massage to Reduce Pain During the First Stage of Labor: Evidence Based Case Report

Background: Labor is a physiological process that every pregnant woman will experience in her reproductive cycle. The changes that occur in the body to prepare for childbirth often cause pain in the mother. Physical changes will also affect the emotional and psychological condition of the birthing mother, such as stress and anxiety. One non-pharmacological methods to reduce pain during labor is endorphine massage. This massage aims to make the mother comfortable and calm by helping to release endorphin hormones which play a role in increased analgesic response during labor. Endorphine massage is performed by giving a light touch to the back area to help release the hormones endorphins and oxytocin during the first stage of labor. Purpose: To determine the effect of endorphin massage on reducing pain in the first stage of labor. Method: Evidence based case report (EBCR) by searching several articles via Google Scholar and Portal Garuda. Result: There was a decrease in pain intensity of first stage of labor from severe to moderate pain after being given endorphins massage for 5 minutes every hour. Conclusion: The results of the case report show that endorphin massage can reduce pain in the first stage of labor.
