In irrigation works in general, concrete face rock fill and concrete roofslabs layer dams in particular, after extended use, "air escape" appears. These "air escape" (hollow layer), if not found and dealt with in time, will greatly affect the upper layer of the dam, causing soakage and leakageand shortening the life span of structures. The paper introduces several new results obtainedwhen Infrared Heat method is applied to assess the ability to detect "air escape" under concrete roof slabs on the dyke and damby studying models (convenient time to identify "air escape"; Minimum temperature gap to identify "air escape"; Minimum size of "air escape" identifiable using Infrared Heat method.
