An Evolutionary Concept Analysis of Spiritual Competence in Nursing.

Clarify the concept of spiritual competence in the context of nursing through evidence-based extraction of attributes, antecedents and consequences. Concept analysis. Rodgers' evolutionary method of concept analysis guided this analysis, and we followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews. An analysis of 45 studies clarified the concept of spiritual competence in the context of nursing. Spiritual competence in nursing is a dynamic process that, once initiated by nurses' spiritual awareness, promotes their spiritual well-being, their spiritual knowledge and skills and their sense of spiritual-care self-efficacy. A comprehensive understanding and clear conceptual definition of the concept of spiritual competence in nursing will enable researchers to overcome barriers and foster nurses' development of spiritual competence to provide spiritual care in nursing. The clarified concept of spiritual competence in nursing can help to shape education and clinical-training programs for nurses in a way that supports their ability to provide spiritual care and promote patient well-being and positive health outcomes. No patient or public contribution was essential to the conduct of this research.

Advance care planning for patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: An evolutionary concept analysis.

This study aimed to analyze the concept of advance care planning (ACP) for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), by systematically clarifying the attributes, antecedents, consequences, surrogate terms, related concepts, and historical transition of the concept. Following Rodgers' method of concept analysis, the academic development of concepts related to ACP for patients with COPD, as well as changes in the concept over time, is comprehensively organized and described. A search formula for relevant literature was created using the two keywords "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" and "advance care planning". The databases of CENTRAL, PubMed, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Embase, and PsycInfo were searched without limitation by the year of publication and restricted to English and Japanese languages. Of the 3433 retrieved articles, 30 peer-reviewed articles were included in the analysis. Data extraction was conducted to identify concepts relevant to ACP for patients with COPD, resulting in the identification of four antecedents (COPD progression, decline in QOL, attitude toward facing death and dying, and interdisciplinary team approach); four attributes (discussion process, documentation, support for facing death, and dying, holistic approach); and four consequences (dialogical process, improved support of decision-making, physical impacts, and psychological impacts). This conceptual framework, identified through this analysis, shows an evolution from a medical perspective to encompassing humanistic perspectives in addressing patient needs and emphasizes the importance of nursing practices. The elucidated concept characteristics may enhance its application, practice promotion, and interdisciplinary understanding across healthcare professions in the end-of-life field.

Bridging theory and data: A computational workflow for cultural evolution

Cultural evolution applies evolutionary concepts and tools to explain the change of culture over time. Despite advances in both theoretical and empirical methods, the connections between cultural evolutionary theory and evidence are often vague, limiting progress. Theoretical models influence empirical research but rarely guide data collection and analysis in logical and transparent ways. Theoretical models themselves are often too abstract to apply to specific empirical contexts and guide statistical inference. To help bridge this gap, we outline a quality-assurance computational workflow that starts from generative models of empirical phenomena and logically connects statistical estimates to both theory and real-world explanatory goals. We emphasize and demonstrate validation of the workflow using synthetic data. Using the interplay between conformity, migration, and cultural diversity as a case study, we present coded and repeatable examples of directed acyclic graphs, tailored agent-based simulations, a probabilistic transmission model for longitudinal data, and an approximate Bayesian computation model for cross-sectional data. We discuss the assumptions, opportunities, and pitfalls of different approaches to generative modeling and show how each can be used to improve data analysis depending on the structure of available data and the depth of theoretical understanding. Throughout, we highlight the significance of ethnography and of collecting basic cultural and demographic information about study populations and call for more emphasis on logical and theory-driven workflows as part of science reform.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: a key factor in hepatocellular carcinoma therapy response

The conceptual evolution of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to what, since 2023, is called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) not only represents a change in the classification and definition of the disease but also reflects a broader understanding of this heterogeneous condition, which still with many aspects to refine. Although the definition of NAFLD can be interchanged to a high percentage with the new MASLD concept in different aspects, MASLD has been proposed as a relevant factor that influences the response to new immunotherapeutic treatments in the management of MASLD-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), compared to HCC of other etiologies. This indicates that the etiology of HCC plays a relevant role in the prognosis, highlighting the urgency of evaluating treatment regimens for this subgroup of patients in upcoming clinical trials. A better understanding of the pathophysiology of MASLD generates strategies that not only aid in its management but also provide strategies to directly intervene in the carcinogenesis of HCC.

First Ink: the development of a magazine of exemplary academic writing ‘by students, for students’

Exemplars of student work can help demystify the critical, rhetorical, and linguistic expectations that underpin academic writing. Marking criteria, no matter how plainly expressed, are necessarily abstract and so may seem remote—even opaque—to our students. Seeing ‘critical thinking’, ‘breadth of research’, or ‘clear expression’ exemplified in a piece of student writing can make the conceptual concrete. Certainly, research attests to the power of student exemplars in making tacit knowledge about academic writing visible and making disciplinary notions of quality clear (see, for instance, Handley and Williams, 2011; Hendry, Bromberger and Armstrong, 2012; Wingate, 2015; To and Carless, 2016). This paper began by tracing the conceptual evolution of First Ink from its origins in an internal proposal paper in 2014 to the idea of a website that combines the engaging properties of a student magazine with the educational benefits of a learning resource. First Ink 2024 offers a range of first-class undergraduate writing across different genres in the Arts and Humanities. The magazine invites readers to discover the stories behind the writing through author interviews, essay commentaries, podcasts, lecturer advice, and other resources that shed light on the craft of good writing—what it looks like on the page, what inspired it, and how it was put together. Following an account of how the magazine was developed by a staff-student team in the summers of 2022 and 2023, the presentation reflected on several issues related to co-creation, exemplar selection, student engagement, the representation of diverse voices, funding, and sustainability.

Intellectual Capital: Revisiting an Analytical Model

The world’s economy is experiencing important changes brought on by diverse factors, namely technological advancements, the appearance and diffusion of personal computers, high-speed telecommunications, and the Internet. These technological changes have influenced the corporate environment, with recent decades denominated as the information economy, the digital economy, the economy of knowledge, a risk society, and the age of quality and innovation. To designate the key concept of the new economic era as “intellectual capital” implies a classification and evaluation effort in order to proceed with its generalization. In today’s world, the study of a model capable of adding explanatory diversity to intellectual capital is very relevant. We observed a true panoply of concepts in the analyzed models based on a literature review. The conceptual evolution during recent decades has motivated many investigations in this field, resulting from the phenomenon of globalization, growing technological innovation, and the observation of significant disparities between the market value and the accounting value of companies. This article describes an investigation carried out, presenting an explicative model of intellectual capital based on four distinct patterns, which are the aggregating factors of the existing conceptual diversity. We present the identification of a model with two axes, x (the type of knowledge, from tacit to explicit) and y (the capital of knowledge, from human to structural), which represents the conceptual diversity mirrored in four quadrants resulting from the research carried out with an initial exploratory study and two following studies with 45 and 72 specialists. In this article we analyze the Martins model, which proves to be essential for systematizing and mapping the dimensions that intellectual capital includes. This model can be used to identify the different aspects of intellectual capital in an organization and thus contribute to its understanding, optimization and good management.

Health-related quality of life of children and adolescents with sickle cell disease: An evolutionary concept analysis

The concept of Health-Related Quality of life (HRQOL) of children and adolescents with Sickle cell disease (SCD) is not clearly understood due to the lack of available studies. This review aimed to elucidate various attributes and related concepts of HRQOL in children and adolescents with SCD using Rodgers' et al. (2018) concept analysis framework. A systematic search was performed to identify studies reporting the attributes, antecedents, consequences, surrogate terms, and related concepts of HRQOL in children and adolescents with SCD. The review included 75 articles, including 70 quantitative, two mixed-methods, and three qualitative studies. These were categorized into attributes, antecedents, consequences, surrogate terms, related concepts, and an exemplar of HRQOL in children and adolescents with SCD. The review identified nine important attributes. It includes multidimensional and dynamic concepts, acknowledging the illness, maintaining emotional balance and self-control, coping with the disease, pain management, stigma and discrimination, treatment burden, palliative care and personal resilience. The antecedents were knowledge and attitude toward the disease, self-efficacy, social support, spirituality and spiritual well-being, disease severity, access to healthcare, environmental factors, and financial considerations. The consequences were independence in personal life, improved physical health outcomes, psychological well-being, family and caregiver well-being, improved family, social and peer relationships and social interactions, improved school performance, and improved overall HRQOL and long-term outcomes. This analysis provides an overview of HRQOL concepts related to children and adolescents with SCD, guiding further research into nursing care and clinical practice.

Living From Test to Test: A Concept Analysis of CA-125 Preoccupation in Ovarian Cancer Survivorship

Background: Ovarian cancer has a high risk of recurrence and is rarely curable. One method for monitoring recurrence is trending Cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) levels. However, treatment based on rising CA-125 levels is controversial, often contributing to anxiety and an excessive focus on test results, described as “CA-125 preoccupation.” Objective: To present an analysis on the concept of CA-125 preoccupation. Methods: Rodgers’ method of evolutionary concept analysis was used to evaluate the attributes, antecedents, and consequences. PubMed, Medline, PsycINFO, and CINAHL electronic databases were searched. Results: Antecedents include a diagnosis of ovarian cancer that necessitates CA-125 surveillance, awareness of CA-125 as a tumor marker, and perceived disease status. Attributes include psychosocial symptoms characterized by a fixation with CA-125 levels and symptoms of anxiety, depression, distress, and illness intrusiveness that present in a cyclical pattern. Consequences include urgency to treat rising levels and surveillance and survivorship care preferences. Conclusions: CA-125 preoccupation is characterized by psychosocial symptoms that present in a cyclical and dynamic state akin to living “test to test” or feeling suspended in a perpetual cycle of tests, driven by a desire to feel relief or prompt action. Implications for Practice: Nurses are poised to influence the patient’s experience through identification of the presence of CA-125 preoccupation and its consequences. Understanding the antecedents and attributes of CA-125 may assist with identifying women who are most at risk. What is Foundational: This research presents the first known conceptual definition of CA-125 preoccupation, which may lead to validated survey measures and improved survivorship care.

Professional Bereavement in Nursing: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis.

Clarify and define the concept of professional bereavement in nursing. Rodgers' evolutionary method was used to identify the attributes, antecedents, and consequences of professional bereavement in nursing. Literature from inception to May 20, 2024, was searched from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, Medline, EBSCO host, Proquest, Ovid, and Cochrane. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were adopted. The 32 articles included in the study provided data on the concept of professional bereavement in nursing. We propose the concept of professional bereavement in nursing as follows: Professional bereavement in nursing is the experience of a patient or colleague's death in the workplace, influenced by contextual, internal, and external factors. Nurses perceive personal and professional losses, exhibit a multidimensional liminal state, and experience personal impacts (life and worldview) and professional impacts (health-related productivity and professional ability). We developed a preliminary conceptual model of professional bereavement in nursing based on its attributes, antecedents, and consequences. This conceptual model promotes the development of theories related to professional bereavement. This is the first article to clarify and define professional bereavement in nursing. We have clarified the antecedents, attributes, and consequences of professional bereavement, which provides a conceptual framework for understanding professional bereavement. The conceptual framework guides the content of interventions and suggests future professional bereavement interventions from a dialectical perspective. Not applicable.

Financial Strategies for Sustainability: Examining the Circular Economy Perspective

Circular economy (CE) research has advanced significantly in recent years in areas like environmental science, engineering, and technology. Governance presents CE strategies as imperative and compelling, often linked to efforts to achieve sustainable business development. However, the financial quantification of a CE is still underexplored and heterogeneous, with multiple research streams exploring the financial dimension. The aims of this study are twofold: (i) to analyze the productivity of the scientific literature and the conceptual evolution of circularity as it relates to financial strategies; and (ii) to formulate future research directions addressing a CE in close connection with financial sustainability knowledge. Bilbiometrix R-package 2023.12.1 and VOSviewer version 1.6.20 were used to analyze a sample of 279 articles retrieved from WoS and Scopus using the PRISMA protocol. The analysis covered the period 2010–2023, with the diachronic thematic analysis revealing four key themes: (1) CE and green financial performance; (2) environmental impact of CE; (3) performance approach of CE and metrics; (4) CE and sustainable development. Building on previous knowledge, we developed an integrated and multidisciplinary framework of CE embedded in financial performance. Future research agenda shaped by the emerging themes and research gaps can support managers, shareholders, or governance in incorporating CE policies into operational activities and strengthening sustainable circularity knowledge.

Embodied and Contextual Intelligence: Towards a Policy Framework for Higher Education

This article explores the diverse epistemic perspectives on intelligence, tracing its conceptual evolution across early Indian philosophy, Western philosophical thought and contemporary computational theories. Intelligence is examined as a dynamic, multifaceted phenomenon that transcends mere cognition, extending into embodied, ecological and meta-intelligent domains. The discussion juxtaposes traditional views—where intelligence is seen as a divine or innate quality, a product of sagacious prudence, or a computational system—with more contemporary understandings that emphasize the role of context, embodiment and ecological interaction. Through a critique of pancomputationalism and an exploration of the non-computable aspects of intelligence, the article argues for a more holistic view that recognizes intelligence as an adaptive, contextually grounded and evolutionarily emergent property.

ABSTRACT: Conceived within the Anglo-American tradition of the 18th century, punitive damages emerge as a distinct form of sanction intended to reflect the role of civil liability through a modern perspective. Originating from case law and customary practices, this foreign institution underscores the inadequacy of compensatory and restitutive functions in restoring the status quo ante in cases of bad faith or significant culpability of the offender, particularly when the wrongdoing stems from the pursuit of personal gain. Thus, the details of the case become crucial in assessing the agent’s conduct, with a rigorous examination of intent. By adopting the Theory of Deterrence, civil law acquires a preventive character, countering the recurrence of egregious harmful acts within social interactions, aiming to safeguard objective good faith in private relations. This article, therefore, traces the historical roots and conceptual evolution of this model over time, highlighting its distinctions from traditional compensatory methods, under the principles of unjust enrichment and full reparation. Finally, the study explores the potential equivalence to the double recovery provision under Article 940 of the Civil Code. Through a theoretical and deductive approach, utilizing qualitative, foundational, explanatory, and bibliographic methods, and viewed through the lens of comparative law, the initial hypothesis is confirmed, with reservations.

From serious leisure to passionate pastime: expanding the conceptual landscape

ABSTRACT This paper introduces ‘passionate pastime’ as a complementary concept to the Serious Leisure Perspective (SLP). It adds a new layer to the initial model to capture the affective aspects of leisure pursuits and enhance its comprehensiveness and clarity. The paper employs Rodgers’ evolutionary concept analysis method to expand the conceptual landscape in this area. The proposed term moves away from the activity-oriented nature of serious leisure and focuses on an experience-oriented perspective. It has an episodic structure that includes three phases: pre-, during, and post-engagement. The pre-engagement phase is characterised by curiosity, enthusiasm, and anticipation. During the engagement, the enthusiasts immerse themselves in the activity and usually experience joy, a sense of fulfilment, and flow. They also make new social connections or maintain old bonds within their communities of interest. The post-engagement phase enables them to reflect, learn, and enjoy their achievements. These phases form a continuous cycle of engagement and explain the transformative potential of leisure in enhancing overall wellbeing. Passionate pastime is more inclusive than serious leisure because many people may engage in leisure activities enthusiastically, but their engagement may not fit the concept of serious leisure, which implies intense commitment and skill development.

Education equity. Evolutionary concept analysis

The Equity and Educational Inclusion project—Perception of High School Students at the University of Guadalajara was approved and financed in 2022. The first stage of the research was to determine through systematic mapping of educational equity whether there was an updated state-of-the-art. This exercise yielded 33 open-access articles in Spanish indexed in the Web of Science (WOS), Scopus, Scielo, and Redalyc databases that included educational equity or some of its variants in their titles. The objective of this article was to present the results obtained during the second phase of documentary research, using the scoping review and Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis as methodological processes.The results of the literature review's systematic inductive methodologies show that seven state-of-the-art publications describe the evolution of the educational equity concept. In addition, the conceptual analysis elements were identified from the systematic extraction process to understand the context (antecedents, attributes, and consequences) in which other terms substitute for or relate to educational equity.Finally, documental research provided the basis for a robust theoretical and conceptual framework for developing the remaining stages of the origin study, concluding it successfully, and disseminating the results to the academic community

Understanding species limits through the formation of phylogeographic lineages.

The outcomes of speciation across organismal dimensions (e.g., ecological, genetic, phenotypic) are often assessed using phylogeographic methods. At one extreme, reproductively isolated lineages represent easily delimitable species differing in many or all dimensions, and at the other, geographically distinct genetic segments introgress across broad environmental gradients with limited phenotypic disparity. In the ambiguous gray zone of speciation, where lineages are genetically delimitable but still interacting ecologically, it is expected that these lineages represent species in the context of ontology and the evolutionary species concept when they are maintained over time with geographically well-defined hybrid zones, particularly at the intersection of distinct environments. As a result, genetic structure is correlated with environmental differences and not space alone, and a subset of genes fail to introgress across these zones as underlying genomic differences accumulate. We present a set of tests that synthesize species delimitation with the speciation process. We can thereby assess historical demographics and diversification processes while understanding how lineages are maintained through space and time by exploring spatial and genome clines, genotype-environment interactions, and genome scans for selected loci. Employing these tests in eight lineage-pairs of snakes in North America, we show that six pairs represent 12 "good" species and that two pairs represent local adaptation and regional population structure. The distinct species pairs all have the signature of divergence before or near the mid-Pleistocene, often with low migration, stable hybrid zones of varying size, and a subset of loci showing selection on alleles at the hybrid zone corresponding to transitions between distinct ecoregions. Locally adapted populations are younger, exhibit higher migration, and less ecological differentiation. Our results demonstrate that interacting lineages can be delimited using phylogeographic and population genetic methods that properly integrate spatial, temporal, and environmental data.

Sleep Disturbances in Health Professional Students During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Concept Analysis.

The aim is to delineate the concept of sleep disturbances in health professional students during the COVID-19 pandemic. A concept analysis was conducted. A systematic search was conducted for relevant articles published and performed from inception to July 5, 2024. Electronic databases searched included PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Embase and Web of Science. Rodgers' method of evolutionary concept analysis was used. A total of 50 pertinent articles were included in our analysis. Utilising inductive thematic analysis, this study identified attributes, antecedents and consequences of sleep disturbances. Important attributes included insomnia, disrupted sleep patterns, altered sleep duration/nocturnal sleep duration and poor sleep quality. Antecedents encompassed factors such as gender, age/grade levels, physical activity, screen time of digital production, mental health issues, COVID-19-related stressors, financial strain and academic stress. Consequences included both mental and physical health implications. By addressing sleep disturbances and promoting better sleep health among students, we can enhance their learning and performance, which could translate to improved patient care outcomes. Additionally, understanding and mitigating sleep disturbances can contribute to the development of a more resilient and effective health care workforce, capable of providing high-quality care even during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Albanian first-year university students’ knowledge and acceptance of evolution

Evolutionary theory provides the foundation for modern biology with evolution as a core concept and unifying principle. This research aimed to examine evolutionary knowledge and acceptance among first-year university students. The<b> </b>participants considered for analysis consisted of 87 students enrolled in the first-year bachelor’s in biology and biotechnology at the University of Tirana, Albania. The respondents’ average age was 18.95 ± 0.78 years, with a pronounced dominance of females (90.2%). The study used the standardized research instrument “evolution education questionnaire on acceptance and knowledge” to measure knowledge and acceptance about evolution in an international context. We employed descriptive statistics to analyze the collected data.<b> </b>The findings of research revealed that over half of the respondents, 61%, fall into the ‘<i>very low knowledge</i>’ category on evolution and none fall in the ‘<i>high knowledge</i>’ category. Only 60.9% accept evolution. The need for a revision of the evolutionary concepts and topics in the curricula, from primary school, is recommended coupled with the incorporation of philosophical dialogue into teaching practice.

Age-Friendly Healthcare: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis.

Aging populations require adapting healthcare systems for older adult's specific needs. Numerous initiatives to improve older-patient care have emerged, but the field lacks a unified framework. The current study aims to provide a systematic concept analysis of 'age-friendly healthcare', examining its characteristics, components and structure. Rodger's evolutionary concept analysis. Searches were conducted in ProQuest, CINAHL, PubMed and Scopus databases between November 2022 and October 2023, utilising the PRISMA 2020 reporting checklist. A literature search using specific terms relevant to age-friendly healthcare retrieved 1407 articles. After screening for duplicates and relevance, 140 articles were examined for eligibility based on inclusion criteria for age-friendly care, language and full-text availability. Following full-text screening, 65 articles were included for data extraction by multiple researchers to synthesise theoretical, methodological and design elements. Our findings highlight key attributes of age-friendly healthcare: Respect for older adults' autonomy and needs; leadership and organisational knowledge and support; Proactive policies and processes of care; holistic care environments; and communication and follow-up with awareness of challenges and barriers as well as prioritisation of continuity-of-care. The concept of age-friendly healthcare is still developing, with much research focused on development and implementation rather than evaluation of real-world patient and health-system outcomes. Our analysis of the concept may help unify the field and clarify future research directions through identification of areas requiring further study and enable development of improved practices and policies for implementing age-friendly healthcare in a variety of settings. Understanding Therapeutic Lying In The Care Of A Person with Dementia: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis

Abstract Background Therapeutic lying, described as any verbal or non-verbal behaviour or communication that involves the manipulation of information has been shown to be pervasive in dementia care. However, its theoretical foundation is difficult to underpin and appears to have evolved through practice without a clear definition. The aim of this study is to establish conceptual clarity around the concept of therapeutic lying in the care of a person with dementia. Methods Rodgers’ evolutionary concept analysis was used to focus on the contextual qualities of therapeutic lying. This dispositional view recognises that concepts are fluid in nature. The analysis involves deconstructing the concept into surrogate terms, attributes, antecedents, consequences and related terms to generate a greater understanding of its innate features. A systematic search relating to “therapeutic lying” and “dementia” was undertaken. The final study sample consisted of 37 papers. Results This analysis revealed therapeutic lying’s surrogate terms, attributes, antecedents, consequences and related terms in the care of a person with dementia. This study highlighted this concept is intended to be used in the person's best interests, for the purpose of doing good. However, its subjective nature makes it an extremely difficult concept to grasp collectively. Conclusion Therapeutic lying is highly dependent on individual interpretation and the caregiver’s moral compass. It can potentially damage trust in a caring relationship and may contribute to the “othering” of a person with dementia. The negative consequences surrounding this concept must be studied comprehensively before it is considered in practice. Therapeutic lying should be used only as a last resort when a person with dementia is exhibiting truth related distress. As the therapeutic effect of a therapeutic lie cannot be guaranteed, the term “well intentioned lying” is proposed as a potential alternative for the concept as this term highlights the caregiver’s good intention behind incorporating a lie during care.

Adult-Child to Older-Parent Coercive Control: A Hybrid Co-constructed Concept Analysis

Abstract Background In the absence of an established definition, the term filial coercive control is used to denote a relationship between an adult-child and their older-parent(s) which is characterised by a persistent pattern of controlling and abusive behaviour. This study explores how this phenomenon is understood in the literature by identifying and synthesizing the current state of knowledge of in this field of research. The knowledge generated from this concept analysis, along with the tacit knowledge of the author as a practitioner- researcher, was synthesised to produce a tentative conceptual framework. The distinctions between filial coercive control from psychological elder abuse are explained with the use of models and contrary cases. The hypotheses generated from this study will be used to guide semi-structured interviews with safeguarding social workers in a later qualitative study. Methods A scoping review methodology was adopted to guide the literature review, while a concept analysis methodology guided data extraction and analysis. Drwing on Rodgers’ evolutionary concept analysis method, a co-constructed research methodology was developed for this study. Results The concept of filial coercive control is understood in the context of the following antecedents: ageist norms, a parental relationship (both biological and non-biological), physical proximity and spatiality, along with the controlling characteristics and tendencies of the abusive adult-child. The defining attributes include the exercise of power through control, dependency and entrapment, isolation and confinement, and fear and intimidation. Through a process of reflective thematic analysis, the defining attributes were used to guide the construction of models and contrary cases to illustrate the findings. Conclusion Existing bodies of theory fail to adequately describe the phenomenon of filial coercive control. A tentative operational definition and a conceptual model are proposed that provide a starting point for future research and to help to inform professional practice and education.
