Data Power in Military Education: Awareness and Understanding of Learning Analytics

Abstract The rapid development, use and availability of technology is creating new opportunities in all areas of human life. The amount of data generated is enormous, followed by advances in the collection, processing and analysis of big data for a variety of purposes, such as various industries, science, healthcare and even education. Data science in education aims to better understand and improve learning processes through data–driven insights. Learning analytics studies how to use data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, visualisation and human– computer interaction approaches to help learners, educators and institutional leaders improve learning processes and teaching practices.

Survey: Unconventional Categories of Chatbots that make use of Machine Learning Techniques

A growing trend in computer interaction approaches is human-computer interaction, which describes communication between a person and a computer and is known as a chatbot. A conversational agent, often known as a chatbot, is a computer program that attempts to provide responses that appear human during a conversation. Studies on several chatbot applications, are been carried out in this research on the areas of Natural Language Processing (NLP), the Natural Language understanding (NLU), and Intent recognition in recent years. There are several NLU applications in various fields, including Chatbots, search in natural language, voice-driven assistants, web- scale information extraction, legal discovery, and content summarization. Intent classification is one of the biggest challenges in NLP. Some of the chatbots classifies students requests to make them simpler to comprehend. A chatbot is an appliance of software that replicates and processes human communication to offer real-time digital assistance. Various tasks that were previously handled by human agents, like assistance to customers, medical counselling, digital commerce and issues addressing, are now being assigned to chatbots. Due to the appearance of machine learning techniques, the main step in chatbot development was defining the rules that would be used to create responses. Here are some strategies for chatbot applications and the machine-learning techniques that underpin them.

System Development and Evaluation of Human–Computer Interaction Approach for Assessing Functional Impairment for People with Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Pilot Study

Non-pharmacological treatments have gained significant attention in the field of cognitive impairment. Among them, human–computer interaction-based (HCI) methods have emerged as a promising approach due to their broad applicability and convenience in assessing symptoms associated with this progressively debilitating condition. However, existing rehabilitation training systems for cognitive impairment lack effective assessment methods to meet the diverse rehabilitation needs of users. In this article, we surveyed existing HCI-based cognitive rehabilitation training systems and analyzed their advantages and shortcomings. Drawing from the insights gained from these systems, we propose a novel Leap Motion-based building block training system that incorporates system software capable of generating highly realistic virtual scenes, with the added capability of user behavior detection using Kinect. We conducted user testing of this new system, comparing the performance of a representative cohort with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) (n = 9) to that of disease-free participants (n = 10). Additionally, we conducted ergonomic experiments to assess the system’s performance in elderly people. The experimental results revealed significant differences between the MCI cohort and the control cohort. Specifically, the MCI cohort exhibited a reduced range of motion and longer task completion times compared to the control cohort. These findings have the potential to contribute to the differentiation of cognitive levels. In conclusion, our analysis of existing cognitive rehabilitation training systems provides valuable insights for researchers working on the development of future innovative cognitive rehabilitation training systems and enriches the non-pharmacological treatment models for cognitive impairment. Furthermore, the observed relationship between behavioral data, task completion times, and cognitive levels in older adults offers useful insights for the design of HCI-based approaches for diagnosing and assessing the treatment of MCI.

What Drives the Digital Customer Experience and Customer Loyalty in Mobile Short-Form Video Shopping? Evidence from Douyin (TikTok)

Mobile short-form video (MSFV) shopping represents an emerging method of mobile e-commerce and indicates the future development trend of mobile e-commerce. Unlike other famous mobile commerce applications, MSFV apps provide customers with animated videos which enable them to view product information vividly. This study examines the associations between digital customer experience and customer loyalty based on a human–computer interaction approach. We draw on content quality, relationship quality, and stickiness to investigate customer attitudinal loyalty and behavioral loyalty. A total of 796 users who use the leading MSFV app in China were randomly surveyed, among whom 778 users were involved in testing the hypotheses. Our findings indicate that content and relationship quality positively influence customers’ stickiness to MSFV shopping. Moreover, stickiness positively mediates the indirect link between content quality and customer loyalty as well as relationship quality and customer loyalty. This study demonstrates the value of extending the human-computer interaction approach to MSFV shopping and contributes to the existing literature by offering a deeper understanding of customer loyalty in the context of MSFV shopping. In addition, it has some managerial implications for making the most of the MSFV app’s huge potential to help the sustainable growth of mobile e-commerce.

Wielding the power of interactive molecular simulations

AbstractSince the dawn of the computer age, scientists have designed devices to represent molecular structures and developed tools to simulate their dynamic behavior in silico. To this day, these tools remain central to our understanding of biomolecular phenomena. In contrast to other fields such as fluid mechanics or meteorology, the observation of molecular motions at the atomic level remains a major experimental challenge. Continuous advances in computer graphics and numerical computation, combined with the emergence of human–computer interaction approaches, led to the methodology of so‐called “interactive molecular simulations”, characterized by two main features. First, the possibility to visualize a running simulation in interactive time, that is, compatible with human perception. Second, the possibility to manipulate the simulation interactively by imposing a force, changing a biophysical property, or editing runtime parameters on the fly. Such simulations are still little used in computational biology, where it is more common to run a series of offline simulations and then visualize and analyze the results. Utilizing a Human–Computer Interaction Approach to Evaluate the Design of Current Pharmacogenomics Clinical Decision Support

A formal assessment of pharmacogenomics clinical decision support (PGx-CDS) by providers is lacking in the literature. The objective of this study was to evaluate the usability of PGx-CDS tools that have been implemented in a healthcare setting. We enrolled ten prescribing healthcare providers and had them complete a 60-min usability session, which included interacting with two PGx-CDS scenarios using the “Think Aloud” technique, as well as completing the Computer System Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ). Providers reported positive comments, negative comments, and suggestions for the two PGx-CDS during the usability testing. Most provider comments were in favor of the current PGx-CDS design, with the exception of how the genotype and phenotype information is displayed. The mean CSUQ score for the PGx-CDS overall satisfaction was 6.3 ± 0.95, with seven strongly agreeing and one strongly disagreeing for overall satisfaction. The implemented PGx-CDS at our institution was well received by prescribing healthcare providers. The feedback collected from the session will guide future PGx-CDS designs for our healthcare system and provide a framework for other institutions implementing PGx-CDS.

Vision Based Mouse Control System using different Colour Coding

In this project, Human computer Interaction approach (HCI) is done, where we are trying to control the movement of mouse cursor and its click events using hand gestures with different colors. Hand gestures were acquired using a camera based on color detection technique. This method is mainly focused on the use of Web Camera to develop the visual based interaction between a computer and human in a cost-efficient manner. These day’s intelligent machine are being developed which can be used along with the computer and helps in friendly Human Computer Interaction (HCI). In the previous year’s many technologies are used for developing the virtual mouse. In this project, we have tried to provide an upgraded technology for the virtual mouse. To work with a computer mouse and Keyboard are the very essential input devices. To solve this problem virtual keyboard and mouse is developed.

A human–computer interaction approach for healthcare

User-centred cloud service adaptation: an adaptation framework for cloud services to enhance user experience

Ubiquitous and cloud manufacturing systems have paved the way for the development of smart systems that can provide self-adaptive services to enhance quality of service and user experience, based on user and context awareness. However, current approaches to software adaptation have critical limitations when applied on software in a cloud environment, since cloud service engineers cannot be certain of the ‘nature’ of their users, regarding their needs and their evolution over time. This article proposes a user-centred framework that addresses self-adaptation of cloud services based on users’ distinct needs and requirements. It aims at leveraging existing human computer interaction approaches to explicitly and implicitly collect user-related data into the cloud. This collection later supports the delivery of adaptive cloud services, contextually relevant to users’ tasks and to their behavioural profiles. Such approaches have the potential to enhance the quality of cloud applications’ service and user experience in cloud-based manufacturing systems. A first prototype demonstration is also presented as a future platform composed of the first basic models (of the ones mentioned in this article) .Then, the platform will be further expanded for instantiation and evaluation in the context of cloud and ubiquitous computing environments.

Maintaining intimacy at a distance: an exploration of human–computer interaction's approach to mediating intimacy

An analysis of information and communication technology designed to support communication between intimates at a geographic distance is carried out via a framework that consists of five themes. This framework was developed by considering what has emerged from human–computer interaction's (HCI) research on supporting mediated intimacy. Themes are: (1) drawing on existing practices, (2) a focus on the capability of technology, (3) increasing levels of contact, (4) idealising intimacy, and (5) prescribing what constitutes intimacy. The HCI research on intimacy is explored thematically in light of the social psychology of intimate relationships. The tensions that are reported in HCI research on intimacy can be interpreted as emanating from a tendency to fragment what is necessarily a holistic experience. Intimate relationships are complex and delicately balanced, thus a reductionist approach to mediating intimacy may be undermining HCI's potential to address the challenge of supporting intimates living at a geographic distance. While a fragmentation of the experience of intimacy can be methodologically productive for HCI, a more holistic approach to intimate relationships may enhance technological support for communication between geographically distant intimates.

Designing (for) experiences in photorealistic VR environments

This paper investigates the role of aesthetics in the design of “intended” experiences in photorealistic virtual reality (VR) environments. It is motivated by the very notion that the aesthetic potential of photorealistic VR content is, and continues to be, underestimated whilst the emphasis on the development of newer and more efficient visualisation technologies to create new and exciting VR experiences increases. Challenging this, the paper looks beyond the technological (and the more traditional human computer interaction approaches that have primarily focused on the performance and efficiency issues of the technology) in order to explore more human values and the experiential side of VR. It focuses on the design of an “engaged interaction” and in doing so, implements a comparative study to explore how the strategic patterning of the aesthetic elements (particularly colour) within a photorealistic VR environment can allow for the design of a certain experience. In conclusion, the paper demonstrates that aesthetics and the “engaged interaction” can play an important role in getting to the heart of the photorealistic VR “user” experience. It highlights how we might design for (i.e. suggest, coax and guide) an “intended” VR experience.

Human Computer Interaction Approach in Developing Customer Relationship Management

Problem statement: Many published studies have found that more than 50% of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system implementations have failed due to the failure of system usability and does not fulfilled user expectation. This study presented the issues that contributed to the failures of CRM system and proposed a prototype of CRM system developed using Human Computer Interaction approaches in order to resolve the identified issues. Approach: In order to capture the users' requirements, a single in-depth case study of a multinational company was chosen in this research, in which the background, current conditions and environmental interactions were observed, recorded and analyzed for stages of patterns in relation to internal and external influences. Some techniques of blended data gathering which are interviews, naturalistic observation and studying user documentation were employed and then the prototype of CRM system was developed which incorporated User-Centered Design (UCD) approach, Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA), metaphor and identification of users' behaviors and characteristics. The implementation of these techniques, were then measured in terms of usability. Results: Based on the usability testing conducted, the results showed that most of the users agreed that the system is comfortable to work with by taking the quality attributes of learnability, memorizeablity, utility, sortability, font, visualization, user metaphor, information easy view and color as measurement parameters. Conclusions/Recommendations: By combining all these techniques, a comfort level for the users that leads to user satisfaction and higher usability degree can be achieved in a proposed CRM system. Thus, it was important that the companies should put usability quality attribute into a consideration before developing or procuring CRM system to ensure the implementation successfulness of the CRM system.

RELIABILITY IN AUTOMATED EVALUATION TOOLS FOR WEB ACCESSIBILITY STANDARDS COMPLIANCE

This research addressed the problem that neither the design standards nor the automated evaluation tools meet Web designers’ requirements for ensuring that there are no accessibility barriers in their Web sites [1, 5]. Different tools arrive at different conclusions when assessing the same Web site for errors. Using Krippendorff’s Alpha Reliability Co-efficient (Kr-�) as a measure of inter-reliability, the computerassisted content analysis tested data from 50 Web sites. These findings support the argument that a human computer interaction approach should be pursued rather than relying on these tools exclusively.
