An efficient computational framework for gastrointestinal disorder prediction using attention-based transfer learning

Diagnosing gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, which affect parts of the digestive system such as the stomach and intestines, can be difficult even for experienced gastroenterologists due to the variety of ways these conditions present. Early diagnosis is critical for successful treatment, but the review process is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) methods provide a solution by automating diagnosis, saving time, reducing workload, and lowering the likelihood of missing critical signs. In recent years, machine learning and deep learning approaches have been used to develop many CAD systems to address this issue. However, existing systems need to be improved for better safety and reliability on larger datasets before they can be used in medical diagnostics. In our study, we developed an effective CAD system for classifying eight types of GI images by combining transfer learning with an attention mechanism. Our experimental results show that ConvNeXt is an effective pre-trained network for feature extraction, and ConvNeXt+Attention (our proposed method) is a robust CAD system that outperforms other cutting-edge approaches. Our proposed method had an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.9997 and an area under the precision-recall curve of 0.9973, indicating excellent performance. The conclusion regarding the effectiveness of the system was also supported by the values of other evaluation metrics.

Kidney Tumor Classification on CT images using Self-supervised Learning

One of the most common diseases affecting society around the world is kidney tumor. The risk of kidney disease increases due to reasons such as consumption of ready-made food and bad habits. Early diagnosis of kidney tumors is essential for effective treatment, reducing side effects, and reducing the number of deaths. With the development of computer-aided diagnostic methods, the need for accurate renal tumor classification is also increasing. Because traditional methods based on manual detection are time-consuming, boring, and costly, high-accuracy tests can be performed faster and at a lower cost with deep learning (DL) methods in kidney tumor detection (KTD). Among the current challenges regarding artificial intelligence-assisted KTD, obtaining more precise programming information and the capacity to group with high accuracy make clinical determination more vital and bring it to an important point for current treatment in KTD prediction. This encourages us to propose a more effective DL model that can effectively assist specialist physicians in the diagnosis of kidney tumors. In this way, the workload of radiologists can be alleviated and errors in clinical diagnoses that may occur due to the complex structure of the kidney can be prevented. A large amount of data is needed during the training of the developed methods. Although various studies have been conducted to reduce the amount of data with feature selection techniques, these techniques provide little improvement in the classification accuracy rate. In this paper, a masked autoencoder (MAE) is proposed for KTD, which can produce effective results on datasets containing some samples and can be directly fine-tuned and pre-trained. Self-supervised learning (SSL) is achieved through self-distillation (SD), which can be reintroduced into the configuration loss calculation using masked patches. The SD loss on the decoder and encoder outputs’ latent representation is calculated operating SSLSD-KTD. The encoder obtains local attention, while the decoder transfers its global attention to calculate losses. The SSLSD-KTD method reached 98.04 % classification accuracy on the KAUH-kidney dataset, including 8400 samples, and 82.14 % on the CT-kidney dataset, containing 840 samples. By adding more external information to the SSLSD-KTD method with transfer learning, accuracy results of 99.82 % and 95.24 % were obtained on the same datasets. Experimental results have shown that the SSLSD-KTD method can effectively extract kidney tumor features with limited data and can be an aid or even an alternative for radiologists in decision-making in the diagnosis of the disease.

PHE-SICH-CT-IDS: A benchmark CT image dataset for evaluation semantic segmentation, object detection and radiomic feature extraction of perihematomal edema in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage

Background and objective:Intracerebral hemorrhage is one of the diseases with the highest mortality and poorest prognosis worldwide. Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (SICH) typically presents acutely, prompt and expedited radiological examination is crucial for diagnosis, localization, and quantification of the hemorrhage. Early detection and accurate segmentation of perihematomal edema (PHE) play a critical role in guiding appropriate clinical intervention and enhancing patient prognosis. However, the progress and assessment of computer-aided diagnostic methods for PHE segmentation and detection face challenges due to the scarcity of publicly accessible brain CT image datasets. Methods:This study establishes a publicly available CT dataset named PHE-SICH-CT-IDS for perihematomal edema in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. The dataset comprises 120 brain CT scans and 7,022 CT images, along with corresponding medical information of the patients. To demonstrate its effectiveness, classical algorithms for semantic segmentation, object detection, and radiomic feature extraction are evaluated. The experimental results confirm the suitability of PHE-SICH-CT-IDS for assessing the performance of segmentation, detection and radiomic feature extraction methods. Results:This study conducts numerous experiments using classical machine learning and deep learning methods, demonstrating the differences in various segmentation and detection methods on the PHE-SICH-CT-IDS. The highest precision achieved in semantic segmentation is 76.31%, while object detection attains a maximum precision of 97.62%. The experimental results on radiomic feature extraction and analysis prove the suitability of PHE-SICH-CT-IDS for evaluating image features and highlight the predictive value of these features for the prognosis of SICH patients. Conclusion:To the best of our knowledge, this is the first publicly available dataset for PHE in SICH, comprising various data formats suitable for applications across diverse medical scenarios. We believe that PHE-SICH-CT-IDS will allure researchers to explore novel algorithms, providing valuable support for clinicians and patients in the clinical setting. A classifier model for prostate cancer diagnosis using CNNs and transfer learning with multi-parametric MRI.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is a major global concern, particularly for men, emphasizing the urgency of early detection to reduce mortality. As the second leading cause of cancer-related male deaths worldwide, precise and efficient diagnostic methods are crucial. Due to high and multiresolution MRI in PCa, computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) methods have emerged to assist radiologists in identifying anomalies. However, the rapid advancement of medical technology has led to the adoption of deep learning methods. These techniques enhance diagnostic efficiency, reduce observer variability, and consistently outperform traditional approaches. Resource constraints that can distinguish whether a cancer is aggressive or not is a significant problem in PCa treatment. This study aims to identify PCa using MRI images by combining deep learning and transfer learning (TL). Researchers have explored numerous CNN-based Deep Learning methods for classifying MRI images related to PCa. In this study, we have developed an approach for the classification of PCa using transfer learning on a limited number of images to achieve high performance and help radiologists instantly identify PCa. The proposed methodology adopts the EfficientNet architecture, pre-trained on the ImageNet dataset, and incorporates three branches for feature extraction from different MRI sequences. The extracted features are then combined, significantly enhancing the model's ability to distinguish MRI images accurately. Our model demonstrated remarkable results in classifying prostate cancer, achieving an accuracy rate of 88.89%. Furthermore, comparative results indicate that our approach achieve higher accuracy than both traditional hand-crafted feature techniques and existing deep learning techniques in PCa classification. The proposed methodology can learn more distinctive features in prostate images and correctly identify cancer.

Enhanced imagistic methodologies augmenting radiological image processing in interstitial lung diseases

Abstract Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILDs) represent a heterogeneous group of several rare diseases that are di cult to predict, diagnose and monitor. There are no predictive biomarkers for ILDs, clinical signs are similar to the ones for other lung diseases, the radiological features are not easy to recognize, and require manual radiologist review. Data-driven support for ILD prediction, diagnosis and disease-course monitoring are great unmet need. Numerous image processing techniques and computer-aided diagnostic and decision-making support methods have been developed over the recent years. The current review focuses on such solutions, discussing advancements on the fields of Quantitative CT, Complex Networks, and Convolutional Neural Networks.

HoVer-Trans: Anatomy-aware HoVer-Transformer for ROI-free Breast Cancer Diagnosis in Ultrasound Images.

Ultrasonography is an important routine examination for breast cancer diagnosis, due to its non-invasive, radiation-free and low-cost properties. However, the diagnostic accuracy of breast cancer is still limited due to its inherent limitations. Then, a precise diagnose using breast ultrasound (BUS) image would be significant useful. Many learning-based computer-aided diagnostic methods have been proposed to achieve breast cancer diagnosis/lesion classification. However, most of them require a pre-define region of interest (ROI) and then classify the lesion inside the ROI. Conventional classification backbones, such as VGG16 and ResNet50, can achieve promising classification results with no ROI requirement. But these models lack interpretability, thus restricting their use in clinical practice. In this study, we propose a novel ROI-free model for breast cancer diagnosis in ultrasound images with interpretable feature representations.We leverage the anatomical prior knowledge that malignant and benign tumors have different spatial relationships between different tissue layers, and propose a HoVer-Transformer to formulate this prior knowledge. The proposed HoVer-Trans block extracts the inter- and intra-layer spatial information horizontally and vertically. We conduct and release an open dataset GDPH&SYSUCC for breast cancer diagnosis in BUS. The proposed model is evaluated in three datasets by comparing with four CNN-based models and three vision transformer models via five-fold cross validation. It achieves state-of-the-art classification performance (GDPH&SYSUCC AUC: 0.924, ACC: 0.893, Spec: 0.836, Sens: 0.926) with the best model interpretability. In the meanwhile, our proposed model outperforms two senior sonographers on the breast cancer diagnosis when only one BUS image is given (GDPH&SYSUCC-AUC ours: 0.924 vs. reader1: 0.825 vs. reader2: 0.820).

Cervical Cancer Diagnosis Based on Multi-Domain Features Using Deep Learning Enhanced by Handcrafted Descriptors

Cervical cancer, among the most frequent adverse cancers in women, could be avoided through routine checks. The Pap smear check is a widespread screening methodology for the timely identification of cervical cancer, but it is susceptible to human mistakes. Artificial Intelligence-reliant computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) methods have been extensively explored to identify cervical cancer in order to enhance the conventional testing procedure. In order to attain remarkable classification results, most current CAD systems require pre-segmentation steps for the extraction of cervical cells from a pap smear slide, which is a complicated task. Furthermore, some CAD models use only hand-crafted feature extraction methods which cannot guarantee the sufficiency of classification phases. In addition, if there are few data samples, such as in cervical cell datasets, the use of deep learning (DL) alone is not the perfect choice. In addition, most existing CAD systems obtain attributes from one domain, but the integration of features from multiple domains usually increases performance. Hence, this article presents a CAD model based on extracting features from multiple domains not only one domain. It does not require a pre-segmentation process thus it is less complex than existing methods. It employs three compact DL models to obtain high-level spatial deep features rather than utilizing an individual DL model with large number of parameters and layers as used in current CADs. Moreover, it retrieves several statistical and textural descriptors from multiple domains including spatial and time–frequency domains instead of employing features from a single domain to demonstrate a clearer representation of cervical cancer features, which is not the case in most existing CADs. It examines the influence of each set of handcrafted attributes on diagnostic accuracy independently and hybrid. It then examines the consequences of combining each DL feature set obtained from each CNN with the combined handcrafted features. Finally, it uses principal component analysis to merge the entire DL features with the combined handcrafted features to investigate the effect of merging numerous DL features with various handcrafted features on classification results. With only 35 principal components, the accuracy achieved by the quatric SVM of the proposed CAD reached 100%. The performance of the described CAD proves that combining several DL features with numerous handcrafted descriptors from multiple domains is able to boost diagnostic accuracy. Additionally, the comparative performance analysis, along with other present studies, shows the competing capacity of the proposed CAD.

Improved breast ultrasound tumor classification using dual-input CNN with GAP-guided attention loss.

Ultrasonography is a widely used medical imaging technique for detecting breast cancer. While manual diagnostic methods are subject to variability and time-consuming, computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) methods have proven to be more efficient. However, current CAD approaches neglect the impact of noise and artifacts on the accuracy of image analysis. To enhance the precision of breast ultrasound image analysis for identifying tissues, organs and lesions, we propose a novel approach for improved tumor classification through a dual-input model and global average pooling (GAP)-guided attention loss function. Our approach leverages a convolutional neural network with transformer architecture and modifies the single-input model for dual-input. This technique employs a fusion module and GAP operation-guided attention loss function simultaneously to supervise the extraction of effective features from the target region and mitigate the effect of information loss or redundancy on misclassification. Our proposed method has three key features: (i) ResNet and MobileViT are combined to enhance local and global information extraction. In addition, a dual-input channel is designed to include both attention images and original breast ultrasound images, mitigating the impact of noise and artifacts in ultrasound images. (ii) A fusion module and GAP operation-guided attention loss function are proposed to improve the fusion of dual-channel feature information, as well as supervise and constrain the weight of the attention mechanism on the fused focus region. (iii) Using the collected uterine fibroid ultrasound dataset to train ResNet18 and load the pre-trained weights, our experiments on the BUSI and BUSC public datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms some state-of-the-art methods. AMIM: An Adaptive Weighted Multimodal Integration Model for Alzheimer’s Disease Classification

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an irreversible neu-rological disorder, so early medical diagnosis is extremely im-portant. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the main medical imaging methods used clinically to detect and diagnose AD. However, most existing computer-aided diagnostic methods only use MRI slices for model architecture design. They ig-nore informational differences between all slices. In addition, physicians often use multimodal data, such as medical images and clinical information, to diagnose patients. The approach helps physicians to make more accurate judgments. Therefore, we propose an adaptive weighted multimodal integration model (AMIM) for AD classification. The model uses global information images, maximum information slices and clinical information as data inputs for the first time. It adopts adaptive weights integration method for classification. Experimental results show that our model achieves an accuracy of 99.00% for AD versus normal controls (NC), and 82.86% for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) versus NC. The proposed model achieves best classification performance in terms of accuracy, compared with most state-of-the-art methods.

A Deep Neural Network Approach on Spleen Cancer Detection using DenseNet-201

Abstract: Spleen is the largest secondary lymphoid organ and play a crucial role in the regulation of innate and adaptive immune. Among all cancers, spleen cancer is one of the serious diseases which effects minor population across the globe but is potentially fatal, especially if diagnosed in a later stage of development with a 20% survival rate at 6 months. Given the intricacy of the problem, several computer-aided diagnostic methods have been proposed and developed to increase the survival rate Spleen Cancer is a malignancy of white blood cells involving tumour deposits in the spleen. Most splenic cancer do not start in the spleen, and those that do, are almost always lymphomas. Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that develops in the lymphatic system. Although there are many systems available with the medical industry, but this research is proposed to improve the performance of existing system by employing deep learning feature of Artificial Intelligence (AI) using Convolution Neural Networks (CNN), where Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) has been implemented using DenseNet-201. This research accomplished the desired parameters with values to achieve 99.60% accuracy and 0.1240 % loss while training and testing the model. The research has been supported with the datasets from Kaggle, IEEE transactions on information technology in biomedicine and IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging. The data set contains three clinical types spleen cancer, such as CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia); FL (follicular lymphoma); MCL (mantle cell lymphoma).

Deep Learning in Ischemic Stroke Imaging Analysis: A Comprehensive Review.

Ischemic stroke is a cerebrovascular disease with a high morbidity and mortality rate, which poses a serious challenge to human health and life. Meanwhile, the management of ischemic stroke remains highly dependent on manual visual analysis of noncontrast computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, artifacts and noise of the equipment as well as the radiologist experience play a significant role on diagnostic accuracy. To overcome these defects, the number of computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) methods for ischemic stroke is increasing substantially during the past decade. Particularly, deep learning models with massive data learning capabilities are recognized as powerful auxiliary tools for the acute intervention and guiding prognosis of ischemic stroke. To select appropriate interventions, facilitate clinical practice, and improve the clinical outcomes of patients, this review firstly surveys the current state-of-the-art deep learning technology. Then, we summarized the major applications in acute ischemic stroke imaging, particularly in exploring the potential function of stroke diagnosis and multimodal prognostication. Finally, we sketched out the current problems and prospects.

Automatic classification of thyroid nodules in ultrasound images using a multi-task attention network guided by clinical knowledge

Thyroid cancer has been the most prevalent cancer in the recent three decades. Ultrasonography is one of the mainly used methods for diagnosing thyroid nodules. Several computer-aided diagnostic methods were proposed to aid radiologists in analyzing ultrasound images of the thyroid gland. Most methods, however, only determine the benignity or malignancy of the thyroid nodule and do not explain the decision-making process of them, which cannot gain the trustworthiness of clinicians because they are not consistent with the physician’s diagnostic process. In our work, we design a multi-task branching attention network in which each of the descriptors of the ACR TI-RADS lexicon is first classified. All respective scores are calculated to get the risk stratification of the nodule. Ultimately, based on the risk stratification, the benignity or malignancy of the nodule is determined. This work provides an automated method that incorporates the ACR TI-RADS characterization of thyroid nodules for detecting the level of risk and the benignity or malignancy of thyroid nodules. Thus the work establishes the trustworthiness of clinicians in deep learning models and improves physician efficiency and diagnostic rates to some extent compared to previous studies. For the diagnosis of thyroid nodules, evaluation indices including accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were 93.55%, 93.86%, and 93.14%, respectively. The experiments show that our approach obtains comparable performance to most advanced methods in diagnosing ultrasound images of the thyroid nodules and is supported by explanations in clinical terms using the ACR TI-RADS lexicon.

An Adaptive Image Fusion Algorithm in the NSST Based on CDF 9/7 for Neurodegenerative Diseases

The neurodegenerative disease such as: Parkinson's disease (PD), mild Alzheimer’s affects many people and has a serious influence on their life, With the quick advancement of computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) methods, early detection is crucial since effective treatment halts the spread of the disease. Image fusion is useful for medical diagnostics. In this paper we propose a multi-modality medical image fusion algorithm in NSST domain. Shearlets (NSST) are decomposed similarly to contourlets (NSCT), except that instead of applying the Laplacian pyramid followed by directional filtering, shearlets use a shear matrix. In this article the Biorthogonal CDF9/7 filter is applied in the shift-invariant shearlet filter banks, then the coefficients of low frequency bands are selected using maximum rule, and using the gradient in each subband high frequency image to motivate the modified pulse coupled neural networks (Modified PCNN). Finally reverse IHS to get the fused color image, all this to optimize the calculation performance and improve the characteristics of the fused image for medical diagnosis. Our approach was validated with several brain diseases modalities: Alzheimer’s…etc. The findings reveal that the suggested image fusion technique has a higher quality than those fused by previous algorithms existing.

An Entropy-Based Measure of Complexity: An Application in Lung-Damage.

The computed tomography (CT) chest is a tool for diagnostic tests and the early evaluation of lung infections, pulmonary interstitial damage, and complications caused by common pneumonia and COVID-19. Additionally, computer-aided diagnostic systems and methods based on entropy, fractality, and deep learning have been implemented to analyse lung CT images. This article aims to introduce an Entropy-based Measure of Complexity (EMC). In addition, derived from EMC, a Lung Damage Measure (LDM) is introduced to show a medical application. CT scans of 486 healthy subjects, 263 diagnosed with COVID-19, and 329 with pneumonia were analysed using the LDM. The statistical analysis shows a significant difference in LDM between healthy subjects and those suffering from COVID-19 and common pneumonia. The LDM of common pneumonia was the highest, followed by COVID-19 and healthy subjects. Furthermore, LDM increased as much as clinical classification and CO-RADS scores. Thus, LDM is a measure that could be used to determine or confirm the scored severity. On the other hand, the d-summable information model best fits the information obtained by the covering of the CT; thus, it can be the cornerstone for formulating a fractional LDM.

Novel computer aided diagnostic models on multimodality medical images to differentiate well differentiated liposarcomas from lipomas approached by deep learning methods

BackgroundDeep learning methods have great potential to predict tumor characterization, such as histological diagnosis and genetic aberration. The objective of this study was to evaluate and validate the predictive performance of multimodality imaging-derived models using computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) methods for prediction of MDM2 gene amplification to identify well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLPS) and lipoma.Materials and methodsAll 127 patients from two institutions were included with 89 patients in one institution for model training and 38 patients in the other institution for external validation between January 2012 and December 2018. For each modality, handcrafted radiomics analysis with manual segmentation was applied to extract 851 features for each modality, and six pretrained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) extracted 512–2048 deep learning features automatically. Extracted imaging-based features were selected via univariate filter selection methods and the recursive feature elimination algorithm, which were then classified by support vector machine for model construction. Integrated with two significant clinical variables, age and LDH level, a clinical-radiological model was constructed for identification WDLPS and lipoma. All differentiation models were evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) and their 95% confidence interval (CI).ResultsThe multimodality model on deep learning features extracted from ResNet50 algorithm (RN-DL model) performed great differentiation performance with an AUC of 0.995 (95% CI 0.987–1.000) for the training cohort, and an AUC of 0.950 (95% CI 0.886–1.000), accuracy of 92.11%, sensitivity of 95.00% (95% CI 73.06–99.74%), specificity of 88.89% (95% CI 63.93–98.05%) in external validation. The integrated clinical-radiological model represented an AUC of 0.996 (95% CI 0.989–1.000) for the training cohort, and an AUC of 0.942 (95% CI 0.867–1.000), accuracy of 86.84%, sensitivity of 95.00% (95% CI 73.06–99.74%), and specificity of 77.78% (95% CI 51.92–92.63%) in external validation.ConclusionsImaging-based multimodality models represent effective discrimination abilities between WDLPS and lipoma via CAD methods, and might be a practicable approach in assistance of treatment decision.

A Single Model Deep Learning Approach for Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosis

Early and accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and its prodromal period mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is essential for the delayed disease progression and the improved quality of patients’ life. The emerging computer-aided diagnostic methods that combine deep learning with structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) have achieved encouraging results, but some of them are limit of issues such as data leakage, overfitting, and unexplainable diagnosis. In this research, we propose a novel end-to-end deep learning approach for automated diagnosis of AD. This approach has the following differences from the current approaches: (1) Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models of different structures and capacities are evaluated systemically and the most suitable model is adopted for AD diagnosis; (2) A data augmentation strategy named Two-stage Random RandAugment (TRRA) is proposed to alleviate the overfitting issue caused by limited training data and to improve the classification performance in AD diagnosis; (3) An explainable method of Grad-CAM++ is introduced to generate the visually explainable heatmaps to make our model more transparent. Our approach has been evaluated on two publicly accessible datasets for two classification tasks of AD vs. cognitively normal (CN) and progressive MCI (pMCI) vs. stable MCI (sMCI). The experimental results indicate that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches, including those using multi-model and three-dimensional (3D) CNN methods. The resultant heatmaps from our approach also highlight the lateral ventricle and some regions of cortex, which have been proved to be affected by AD.

MRI-Based Computer-Aided Diagnostic Model to Predict Tumor Grading and Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Soft Tissue Sarcoma.

MRI acts as a potential resource for exploration and interpretation to identify tumor characterization by advanced computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) methods. To evaluate and validate the performance of MRI-based CAD models for identifying low-grade and high-grade soft tissue sarcoma (STS) and for investigating survival prognostication. Retrospective. A total of 540 patients (295 male/female: 295/245, median age: 42 years) with STSs. 5-T MRI with T1 WI sequence and fat-suppressed T2 -weighted (T2 FS) sequence. Manual regions of interests (ROIs) were delineated for generation of radiomic features. Automatic segmentation and pretrained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) were performed for deep learning (DL) analysis. The last fully connected layer at the top of CNNs was removed, and the global max pooling was added to transform feature maps to numeric values. Tumor grade was determined on histological specimens. The support vector machine was adopted as the classifier for all MRI-based models. The DL signature was derived from the DL-MRI model with the highest area under the curve (AUC). The significant clinical variables, tumor location and size, integrated with radiomics and DL signatures were ready for construction of clinical-MRI nomogram to identify tumor grading. The prognostic value of clinical variables and these MRI-based signatures for overall survival (OS) was evaluated via Cox proportional hazard. The clinical-MRI differentiation nomogram represented an AUC of 0.870 in the training cohort, and an AUC of 0.855, accuracy of 79.01%, sensitivity of 79.03%, and specificity of 78.95% in the validation cohort. The prognostic model showed good performance for OS with 3-year C-index of 0.681 and 0.642 and 5-year C-index of 0.722 and 0.676 in the training and validation cohorts. MRI-based CAD nomogram represents effective abilities in classification of low-grade and high-grade STSs. The MRI-based prognostic model yields favorable preoperative capacities to identify long-term survivals for STSs. 3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 4.

Exploring New Characteristics: Using Deep Learning and 3D Reconstruction to Compare the Original COVID-19 and Its Delta Variant Based on Chest CT.

Purpose: Computer-aided diagnostic methods were used to compare the characteristics of the Original COVID-19 and its Delta Variant. Methods: This was a retrospective study. A deep learning segmentation model was applied to segment lungs and infections in CT. Three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction was used to create 3D models of the patient’s lungs and infections. A stereoscopic segmentation method was proposed, which can subdivide the 3D lung into five lobes and 18 segments. An expert-based CT scoring system was improved and artificial intelligence was used to automatically score instead of visual score. Non-linear regression and quantitative analysis were used to analyze the dynamic changes in the percentages of infection (POI). Results: The POI in the five lung lobes of all patients were calculated and converted into CT scores. The CT scores of Original COVID-19 patients and Delta Variant patients since the onset of initial symptoms were fitted over time, respectively. The peak was found to occur on day 11 in Original COVID-19 patients and on day 15 in Delta Variant patients. The time course of lung changes in CT of Delta Variant patients was redetermined as early stage (0–3 days), progressive and peak stage (4–16 days), and absorption stage (17–42 days). The first RT-PCR negative time in Original COVID-19 patients appeared earlier than in Delta Variant patients (22 [17–30] vs. 39 [31–44], p < 0.001). Delta Variant patients had more re-detectable positive RT-PCR test results than Original COVID-19 patients after the first negative RT-PCR time (30.5% vs. 17.1%). In the early stage, CT scores in the right lower lobe were significantly different (Delta Variant vs. Original COVID-19, 0.8 ± 0.6 vs. 1.3 ± 0.6, p = 0.039). In the absorption stage, CT scores of the right middle lobes were significantly different (Delta Variant vs. Original COVID-19, 0.6 ± 0.7 vs. 0.3 ± 0.4, p = 0.012). The left and the right lower lobes contributed most to lung involvement at any given time. Conclusion: Compared with the Original COVID-19, the Delta Variant has a longer lung change duration, more re-detectable positive RT-PCR test results, different locations of pneumonia, and more lesions in the early stage, and the peak of infection occurred later.

Deep Stacked Sparse Autoencoders – A Breast Cancer Classifier

Breast cancer is among one of the non-communicable diseases that is the major cause of women's mortalities around the globe. Early diagnosis of breast cancer has significant death reduction effects. This chronic disease requires careful and lengthy prognostic procedures before reaching a rational decision about optimum clinical treatments. During the last decade, in Computer-Aided Diagnostic (CAD) systems, machine learning and deep learning-based approaches are being implemented to provide solutions with the least error probabilities in breast cancer screening practices. These methods are determined for optimal and acceptable results with little human intervention. In this article, Deep Stacked Sparse Autoencoders for breast cancer diagnostic and classification are proposed. Anticipated algorithms and methods are evaluated and tested using the platform of MATLAB R2017b on Breast Cancer Wisconsin (Diagnostic) Data Set (WDBC) and achieved results surpass all the CAD techniques and methods in terms of classification accuracy and efficiency.

AUTOENCODER PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF SKIN LESION DETECTION

Melanoma is a rapidly pervasive and deathly type of skin cancer that is responsible for most deaths from this kind of disease. It can quickly prevail in other organs if not handled early. Fortunately, the symptoms of skin cancer become visible to the sick, which creates a chance to detect it at an early stage. Because people know so little about their specific symptoms and because of a shortage of expert doctors, automated skin cancer detection has become an important public health issue. Many computer-aided diagnostic methods have been suggested so far. Besides traditional techniques based on image processing, researchers have recently used deep learning successfully for many different purposes. Deep neural networks are widely used in segmentation, classification, detection, etc. In this paper, we check the applicability of deep learning approaches to the segmentation of skin lesions to detect lesion boundaries by evaluating five architectures: U-NET, RESU-NET, VGG16UNET, DENSENET121, and EfficientNet-B0 by presenting a comparative view of those approaches. The five architectures were trained on three different data sets: ISIC 2016, ISIC 2018, and PH2, each set consisting of skin lesion images and the ground truth for their segmentation, and then used pre-processed on three datasets. Quantitative evaluation metrics were used for evaluating the performance of the studied architectures. Among these five architectures, the DENSENET121 architecture showed the best precision rate in all training datasets. We obtained an above 95% precision score in the PH2 dataset. In addition, the pre-processing steps were beneficial for the results.
