A thorough analysis of data on the correlation between COL9A1 polymorphisms and the susceptibility to congenital talipes equinovarus: a meta-analysis

BackgroundCongenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) is a prevalent pediatric deformity with a multifactorial etiology. The objective of this meta-analysis was to explore the association between genetic variations in COL9A1 and the susceptibility to CTEV.MethodsA comprehensive analysis of pertinent literature released before November 15, 2023, in electronic bibliographic databases was carried out. The importance of the connection was clarified through odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), utilizing random or fixed-effects models depending on study heterogeneity. Statistical analysis was executed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (Version 4.0).ResultsA total of eight case-control studies involving 833 CTEV patients and 1280 healthy individuals were included in the analysis. Among these, four studies investigated the rs1135056 variant, encompassing 432 CTEV cases and 603 controls; two studies examined the rs35470562 variant, with 189 CTEV cases and 378 controls; and two studies explored the rs592121 variant, including 212 CTEV cases and 299 controls. The results revealed a significant association between the rs1135056 and rs35470562 polymorphisms in the COL9A1 gene, suggesting an increased risk of CTEV in the overall population. Conversely, no such association was found for the rs592121 variant.ConclusionOur findings reveal a substantial association between the genetic variants COL9A1 rs1135056 and rs35470562 and susceptibility to CTEV. Conversely, the variant rs592121 did not exhibit any corresponding link. However, the limitations imposed by the small study population have compromised the statistical reliability and generalizability of the results.

Acceptance and use of artificial intelligence and AI-based applications in education: A meta-analysis and future direction

The aim of present study was to measure the relationship of UTAUT (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) and TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) variables regarding AI technology and AI-based applications acceptance in education sector. Research was carried out by using PRISMA (Preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis) guidelines. The relevant studies were searched from major databases that included a) Scopus, and b) Web of Science. Initial search retrieved 309 titles, and 30 relevant articles and conference papers were selected following the search process. Data was analysed using CMA (Comprehensive Meta-analysis) and Meta-Essential software. Findings exhibit that the relationship between UTAUT variables and BI to accept AI and AI-based applications in education was high (PE → BI), medium (EE → BI, SI → BI), and low (FC → BI). The magnitude of the relationship of TAM constructs remained high for all paths (PU → AT, PEOU → AT, PU → BI, and PEOU → BI). Theoretically, this meta-analysis provided a panoramic picture of two leading technology acceptance models regarding the acceptance/adoption of AI and AI-based technology in education sector. This meta-analysis provided a way forward for researchers to extend research on AI-based applications including ChatGPT, intelligent tutoring, AI-based robots, AI-based Chatbots, and AI-based voice assistants. Practically, findings are useful for IT companies, and decision makers of educational institutes in designing and implementing AI and AI-based applications.

Global Prevalence of Anxiety, Depression, and Stress Among Patients with Skin Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

The changes in human lifestyle over the past few decades have impacted the prevalence of skin diseases within different societies. Skin diseases may result in various physical and mental disorders. The most common mental disorders observed among the patients are stress, anxiety, and depression. This study aims to investigate the global prevalence of anxiety, depression, and stress in patients with skin diseases. In this Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis study, the PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Embase, Web of science, and Google Scholar repositories were searched without a lower time limit. Heterogeneity among the identified studies was examined using the I2 index, and accordingly random effects model was adopted for analysis. Data analysis was conducted within the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (v. 2). In total, 113 studies were included for the final analysis. The overall pooled prevalence of stress, depression, and anxiety in skin disease patients was found to be 39.4%, 27.2% and 28.8%, respectively. Among patients with psoriasis, acne, vitiligo or atopic dermatitis diseases, the highest number of patients suffering from stress was related to patients with acne (75.7%). The highest prevalence of depression, and anxiety was reported in patients with vitiligo (38.3%) and acne (36.5%), respectively. Considering the high prevalence of mental disorders among patients with skin diseases and recognising the impacts of mental health challenges on patients' well-being, the findings of this study provide valuable insights for identifying specific populations that require targeted interventions for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses. Accordingly, healthcare policymakers should incorporate psychological treatment and support measures as integral components of comprehensive care strategies for patients with skin diseases.

Long-term outcomes of converting fused hips to total hip arthroplasty are satisfactory: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: Although conversion arthroplasty of fused hips can relieve pain and provide patient satisfaction, long-term outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) after hip fusion remain a subject of debate. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness of THA for fused hips over a long period with concerns over potential complications. Methods: A systematic search of five databases from 2000 until 2023 identified English studies evaluating THA for fused hips with at least 100 months of follow-up. Meta-analyses were conducted using random-effect models via the comprehensive meta-analysis software. Sensitivity analysis, in-depth meta-regression, Egger's test, and the trim-and-fill method were performed appropriately Results: The meta-analysis assessed 790 patients and 889 hips with a mean follow-up of 11 years. At the final follow-up, the mean Harris Hip Score (HHS) and leg length discrepancy (LLD) improved by 34.755 and 2.3 cm from the baseline, respectively. Regarding survival of hip fusion conversion to THA, most studies (88.8%) reported a 5-year implant survival rate of at least 90%, and the 15-year and 20-year implant survival rates, ranged between 80–90% and 70–90%, respectively. Subjective dissatisfaction with the conversion of hip fusion to THA was only 5.3%. Composite rates of revision, instability, and aseptic loosening were 13.6%, 3.8%, and 8.8%, respectively. Conclusions: Conversion of fused hips to THA results in favourable long-term outcomes regarding HHS, LLD, survival rates, and subjective satisfaction, leading to improved quality of life in properly selected patients. However, the presence of complications should be considered when evaluating the overall success of the procedure.

This research aims to test the effectiveness of the flipped classroom model on students' higher order thinking abilities (HOTS) in mathematics subjects. The research method uses meta-analysis. The sample in this study was 18 primary studies that met the specified inclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed using comprehensive meta-analysis (CMA) software. The results of the analysis using the random-effects approach showed that the combined effect size was (g = 1.82; p < 0.01) (very large effect). This shows that the implementation of the flipped classroom model has a big influence on students' mathematics HOTS when compared to the traditional learning model. The results of the moderator variable analysis show that the effect of implementing the flipped class model on students' mathematics HOTS differs significantly based on the publication type variable (Qb = 7.94; p = 0.01). However, it was not significantly different based on the variables of education level (Qb = 7.45; p = 0.06), experimental group capacity (Qb = 0.29; p = 0.62), and year of publication (Qb = 0.21; p = 0.64). These findings can be the basis for choosing a mathematics learning model so that the quality of mathematics learning using the flipped classroom model can be improved.

The global prevalence of E-cigarettes in youth: A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis

ObjectivesSmoking, especially cigarettes, is known as one of the most common social and health problems among people. E-cigarettes are another form of tobacco that has been an ordinary daily occurrence.Study Design: systematic review and meta-analysis. MethodsSystematic searching of databases was performed in Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, Science Direct, MagIran, IranDoc, SID and Google search engine based on the PRISMA 2020 guideline. This search was conducted by the end of May 2021. Following full-text assessments, the related data were extracted from the papers. Newcastle-Ottawa scale was also used to evaluate the quality of methodology of the articles. Finally, study analysis was performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (version 2) based on the random effect model. ResultsGlobal prevalence of E-cigarette in younger individuals was 16.8 (95 % CI: 10.6–25.6) and 4.8 (95 % CI: 3–7.6) in the Ever and Current modes of E-cigarette, respectively. We also found that E-cigarettes were used more common in young boys than young girls in both Ever and Current modes. In young boys, the prevalence of E-cigarette were 18.8 (95 % CI: 8.4–36.8) and 4.9 (95 % CI: 3–8) in both modes of Ever and Current, respectively. In young girls, these factors were 9.9 (95 % CI: 5–18.6) and 1.6 (95 % CI: 1–3.1) in both modes of Ever and Current, respectively. ConclusionsThe global prevalence of e-cigarettes among young people, especially young boys, is increasing. Based on this, the prevention and management of the damage of this social phenomenon requires comprehensive global study, planning and policy.

Green innovation for a greener future: A meta-analysis of the impact on environmental performance

The climate change and industrial pollution forced all enterprises to identify and adopt sustainable practices to enhance positive environmental effects and contribute to economic recovery. In this context, green innovation practices, concerning green product and process innovation in specific, emerged as promising solutions in natural resource management and mitigate the challenges therein. The effect of green innovation with all its dimensions on environmental performance, is assessed in many studies which have obtained different results. An attempt is made to synthesize the obtained quantitative results through a meta-analysis approach to determine the overall effect of green innovation (GI), green product innovation (GPRI), and green process innovation (GPCI) on environmental performance (EP). A meta-analysis conducted on the relevant 80 selected studies using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software has revealed that, overall, GI has a positive and significant impact on EP. Additionally, the study found that both GPRI and GPCI have a positive and significant effect on EP. However, GPCIs have a greater magnitude of impact on EP compared to GPRIs. Furthermore, this study's findings suggest that the level of a country's development and the firm's sector type can act as moderating variables that enhance the impact of GPCI on EP. In addition to providing theoretical insights, this study offers practical policy recommendations to promote the adoption of green innovation practices among enterprises. These include establishing supportive environments, offering incentives, establishing regulations and standards, and expanding sustainable consumption to enhance the theoretical insights on this essential issue.

Prevalence of polymyxin-resistant bacterial strains in India: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Polymyxins, the cationic lipopeptide antibiotics, are the last line of therapeutics against the MDR Gram-negative bacterial (GNB) pathogens. Unfortunately, the rising cases of polymyxin-resistant strains from across the globe have adversely impacted their utility. While the molecular mechanisms responsible for developing polymyxin resistance (PolR) are largely understood, the prevalence of PolR strains in India has not been investigated systematically. The current study was undertaken to primarily determine the prevalence of PolR strains in India. Moreover, the extent of the spread of mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes among the GNB strains in India was also determined. A systematic search for articles using the relevant inclusion and exclusion criteria was performed in the applicable databases for the period January 2015 to December 2023. The included 41 studies were subjected to a meta-analysis using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (V4.0). Publication biases were assessed using funnel plots and Egger's regression analysis. Considering a total of 41 studies including 24 589 bacterial isolates the present meta-analysis found the rate of PolR bacteria in India to be at 15.0% (95% CI: 11.2 to 19.8). Among the Indian States, Tamil Nadu topped with the highest prevalence of PolR at 28.3%. Investigating the contribution of the mcr genes, it was observed that among the PolR strains, 8.4% (95% CI: 4.8 to 14.3) were mcr positive. The study determined the prevalence of PolR strains in India at 15.0%, which is higher than that of the global average at 10%. The study also determined that 8.4% of the PolR strains carried the mcr genes. The mcr-positive strains reported from India could be an underestimation of the actual numbers due to the non-inclusion of mcr screening in many previous studies. This study provides insight into the state of the PolR situation in India, which may be useful to develop a monitoring strategy to contain the spread of such strains and preserve the efficacy of the polymyxins.

Statins as an adjuvant therapy for patients with schizophrenia: An up-to-date systematic review and meta-analysis

BackgroundEvidence suggests that inflammatory processes play a role in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Statins exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and may be effective in improving the symptoms of schizophrenia. This study explored whether statins, as an adjunctive therapy, can alleviate the symptoms of schizophrenia. MethodsPubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were searched for articles published up to March 2023. The risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials was used to assess study quality. Two researchers independently assessed the risks of bias and extracted data. Pooled data on Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) scores were analyzed. A random-effects model was employed to calculate pooled effect sizes. Statistical heterogeneity across studies was assessed using the I2 statistic. All analyses were performed using RevMan5 and Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. ResultsNine trials enrolling 533 patients in total were included. Add-on statin therapy was found to be associated with a significantly better total PANSS score [standardized mean difference (SMD) = −0.42, 95% confidence interval (CI) −0.75 to −0.09, I2 = 72%; P = 0.01] and PANSS negative subscale score (SMD = −0.26, 95% CI −0.45 to −0.07, I2 = 0%; P = 0.009) in comparison with placebo. However, add-on statin therapy did not appear to improve scores for the PANSS positive and general subscales at the study-defined endpoint (6–24 weeks). ConclusionsOur meta-analysis indicates that adjunctive statin therapy may confer benefits in ameliorating PANSS negative and total scores. It needs more solid data to confirm the results are related to clinical improvement and functioning.

Monitoring Over a Decade in the Serotype Prevalence of Streptococcus pneumoniae in Iran: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

There is no comprehensive information about the circulating serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae in Iran in recent years. This study aimed to summarize information about the changes over a decade in the serotype prevalence of S. pneumoniae in Iran. We performed a comprehensive search in PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Science Direct, and the Iranian Database, such as Magiran and SID, from January 2011 to February 2023. The systematic process, in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), was carried out by two researchers who were both independent and calibrated. Statistical analyses were carried out using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. Identifying and measuring heterogeneity were done using I2 and the chi-square test. Finally, Begg's rank correlation test was used in combination with a funnel plot to evaluate any possible publication bias. The search returned 16 relevant results, with a total of 1575 isolates. Of those studies, eight studies reported the distribution of S. pneumoniae serotypes among patients, three studies among healthy individuals, and five studies among both groups. As the meta-analysis revealed, the most common serotypes were 23F (n = 299, 14.1% [95% CI: 9.7-19.9]; I2 = 84.3%; P<0.001 for heterogeneity), 19F (n = 221, 13.4% [95% CI: 9.9-17.9; I2 = 76.7%; P<0.001 for heterogeneity]), and 19A (n = 102, 8.7% [95% CI: 6.5-11.7; I2 = 54.3%; P<0.001 for heterogeneity]). Moreover, Begg's test (P = 0.160, 0.173, and 0.176 for 23F, 19F, and 19A, respectively) showed no evidence of publication bias. Based on our pooled results, the majority of the serotypes of pneumococci in the Iranian population were 23F, 19F, and 19A, respectively, over the last decade. The findings can be valuable in selecting effective pneumococcal vaccine candidates and targeted antibiotics in Iranian patients.

Estimating the prevalence of depression in people with acute coronary syndromes: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

The epidemic of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) poses a great challenge to depression. However, the prevalence of depression among ACS patients has not been fully determined. This meta-analysis aimed to provide an estimation of the global prevalence of depression among ACS patients (ACS depression). Online databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched for all relevant studies that reported the prevalence of ACS depression through March 2023. Pooled prevalence of ACS depression with 95% confidence interval (CI) was estimated by the random-effect model. All statistical analyses were performed using comprehensive meta-analysis software. This review was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) (identifier CRD42023409338). A total of 28 studies (17 cohort studies, 9 cross-sectional studies, and 2 case-control studies) were included. The overall pooled prevalence of depression in ACS, derived from 28 studies, was 28.5% (95% CI: 0.28-0.29, P = .000, I2 = 99%). 21 included studies showed a prevalence of 20.3% (95% CI: 0.20-0.21, P = .000, I2 = 96%) in men, and the prevalence in women was 13.6% (95% CI: 0.13-0.14, P = .000, I2 = 95%). Subgroup analysis showed the lowest prevalence in Europe (20.7%, 95% CI: 0.20-0.22, P = .000, I2 = 98%); On different diagnostic criteria, the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (DSM-IV) (36.8%, 95% CI: 0.35-0.38, P = .000, I2 = 96%) has the highest prevalence. In terms of end year of data collection, the prevalence of ACS depression was lower for studies that ended data collection after 2012 (25.7%, 95% CI: 0.25-0.27, P = .000, I2 = 99%) than in studies before 2012 (30%, 95% CI: 0.29-0.31, P = .000, I2 = 98%). This systematic review and meta-analysis suggest high global prevalence of depression among ACS patients, underlining the necessity of more preventive interventions among ACS patients especially in Asian and North American regions.

Electronic Media Use and Sleep Quality: Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

This paper explores the widely discussed relationship between electronic media use and sleep quality, indicating negative effects due to various factors. However, existing meta-analyses on the topic have some limitations. The study aims to analyze and compare the impacts of different digital media types, such as smartphones, online games, and social media, on sleep quality. Adhering to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, the study performed a systematic meta-analysis of literature across multiple databases, including Web of Science, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, and Google Scholar, from January 2018 to October 2023. Two trained coders coded the study characteristics independently. The effect sizes were calculated using the correlation coefficient as a standardized measure of the relationship between electronic media use and sleep quality across studies. The Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (version 3.0) was used to perform the meta-analysis. Statistical methods such as funnel plots were used to assess the presence of asymmetry and a p-curve test to test the p-hacking problem, which can indicate publication bias. Following a thorough screening process, the study involved 55 papers (56 items) with 41,716 participants from over 20 countries, classifying electronic media use into "general use" and "problematic use." The meta-analysis revealed that electronic media use was significantly linked with decreased sleep quality and increased sleep problems with varying effect sizes across subgroups. A significant cultural difference was also observed in these effects. General use was associated with a significant decrease in sleep quality (P<.001). The pooled effect size was 0.28 (95% CI 0.21-0.35; k=20). Problematic use was associated with a significant increase in sleep problems (P≤.001). The pooled effect size was 0.33 (95% CI 0.28-0.38; k=36). The subgroup analysis indicated that the effect of general smartphone use and sleep problems was r=0.33 (95% CI 0.27-0.40), which was the highest among the general group. The effect of problematic internet use and sleep problems was r=0.51 (95% CI 0.43-0.59), which was the highest among the problematic groups. There were significant differences among these subgroups (general: Qbetween=14.46, P=.001; problematic: Qbetween=27.37, P<.001). The results of the meta-regression analysis using age, gender, and culture as moderators indicated that only cultural difference in the relationship between Eastern and Western culture was significant (Qbetween=6.69; P=.01). All funnel plots and p-curve analyses showed no evidence of publication and selection bias. Despite some variability, the study overall confirms the correlation between increased electronic media use and poorer sleep outcomes, which is notably more significant in Eastern cultures.

Return to Golf After Hip Arthroscopy: A Systematic Review of the Literature.

Patients experiencing pain from femoral acetabular impingement and considering hip arthroscopy may be concerned about their timeline to resume activities they enjoy, such as golf. The purpose of this study was to review current literature on return-to-play data after hip arthroscopy and to provide clinicians with data to set proper expectations with patients. The following terms were used to search PubMed and Embase electronic databases on October 18, 2023: hip, arthroscopy, arthroscopic, golf. Studies were included if they were in the English language, of Level 1 to 4 evidence, and contained data specific to golfers undergoing hip arthroscopy. Studies were excluded if they did not designate participants as golfers or did not specify return-to-play data. Editorials, case reports, and review articles were excluded. Screening was completed by 2 authors in a blind and duplicate manner. Systematic review. Level II. The following datapoints were extracted from each study: hip pathology and arthroscopic procedure data; number of players returning to golf and time from surgery to return; outcome score(s); and rehabilitation details. Descriptive statistics were calculated using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. The search returned 400 studies, of which 4 were included for analysis. Of these 4 studies, 2 specified return-to-play time. Of 95 golfers, 90 (94.7%) returned to golf successfully after arthroscopic hip surgery. Subjective and objective outcome scores improved postoperatively, including an increased average drive distance. Return to golf after hip arthroscopy is highly probable, with approximately 95% of patients throughout literature returning to play. A mean return time of 4.7 months for professional golfers and 7.2 months for amateurs, alongside improved subjective outcomes and performance metrics postsurgery, suggest patients can expect a relatively quick return to the course with similar or improved performance.

The Effects of Curcumin Plus Piperine Co-administration on Inflammation and Oxidative Stress: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

The beneficial effects of curcumin against various chronic disorders have been shown in the last few decades. However, due to its low bioavailability, therapeutic effects are less than expected. Piperine has been used in scientific evaluations as an effective compound to increase the bioavailability of curcumin. The present review investigated the impact of curcumin plus piperine intake on oxidative stress and inflammatory markers of Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs). Using relevant keywords, we searched Cochrane Library, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science between January 1st, 1970, and September 30th, 2022. A comprehensive search for RCTs was performed. Continuous data were pooled by Standard Mean Difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval. All related statistical analyses were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. A total of 13 articles were incorporated into the final meta-analysis. According to the current meta-analysis, curcumin plus piperine administration showed a significantly increased SOD activity and GSH levels while significantly decreased MDA concentrations. In addition, our study revealed that curcumin plus piperine significantly decreased TNF-α and IL-6 concentrations. These results indicated that curcumin plus piperine administration could effectively reduce oxidative stress and inflammation.

Prevalence of autism spectrum disorder among children in Southeast Asia from 2002 to 2022: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that impacts the brain, characterized by challenges in social communication and interaction, often accompanied by repetitive behaviors or focused interests. This study sheds light on the prevalence of ASDwithin the Southeast Asian region. The study protocol was registered in PROSPERO (Registration No: CRD42023413915). Appropriate search terms and Boolean operators were employed to explore electronic databases for relevant articles. Data thus extracted were prepared in Excel and analyzed in Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software. The effect measure utilized in the study was represented by the proportion, and the choice between a fixed or random-effect model depended on the observed heterogeneity. Visual feedback was provided through the use of forest plots and funnel plots. A total of 14studies were included in the qualitative and quantitative synthesis after screening the imported studies. The prevalence of ASDwas sixper 1000 population (proportion: 0.006; CI: 0.002-0.017; I 2: 99.263%). Among the ASD cases, 64.4% (proportion: 0.644; CI: 0.590-0.693; I 2: 9.937%) were males and 35.6% (proportion: 0.356; CI: 0.307-0.410; I 2: 9.937%) were females. The prevalence ofASDin Southeast Asia was estimated to be sixcases per 1000 individuals, with a higher prevalence among males. This study contributes to our understanding of ASD prevalence in the region, although it is essential to note certain limitations in estimating prevalence.

Prognostic value of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in end-stage liver disease: A meta-analysis.

The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is commonly utilized as a prognostic indicator in end-stage liver disease (ESLD), encompassing conditions like liver failure and decompensated cirrhosis. Nevertheless, some studies have contested the prognostic value of NLR in ESLD. To investigate the ability of NLR to predict ESLD. Databases, such as Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Weipu, and Wanfang, were comprehensively searched to identify studies published before October 2022 assessing the prognostic ability of NLR to predict mortality in patients with ESLD. Effect sizes were calculated using comprehensive meta-analysis software and SATAT 15.1. A total of thirty studies involving patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) were included in the evaluation. Among the pooled results of eight studies, it was observed that the Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) was significantly higher in non-survivors compared to survivors (random-effects model: standardized mean difference = 1.02, 95% confidence interval = 0.67-1.37). Additionally, twenty-seven studies examined the associations between NLR and mortality in ESLD patients, reporting either hazard ratios (HR) or odds ratios (OR). The combined findings indicated a link between NLR and ESLD mortality (random-effects model; univariate HR = 1.07, 95%CI = 1.05-1.09; multivariate HR = 1.07, 95%CI = 1.07-1.09; univariate OR = 1.29, 95%CI = 1.18-1.39; multivariate OR = 1.29, 95%CI = 1.09-1.49). Furthermore, subgroup and meta-regression analyses revealed regional variations in the impact of NLR on ESLD mortality, with Asian studies demonstrating a more pronounced effect. Increased NLR in patients with ESLD is associated with a higher risk of mortality, particularly in Asian patients. NLR is a useful prognostic biomarker in patients with ESLD.

Efficacy and safety of bamlanivimab in patients with COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have shown clinical benefits against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Several studies have reported the use of bamlanivimab as a promising treatment option for COVID-19. To synthesize the latest evidence for the efficacy and safety of bamlanivimab alone in the treatment of adult patients with COVID-19. A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, medRxiv, and Google Scholar using "SARS-CoV-2", "COVID-19", "LY-CoV555", and "Bamlanivimab" keywords up to January 25, 2023. The quality of included studies was assessed using the Cochrane bias tools. The Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software version 3.0 was used to analyze the data. A total of 30 studies involving 47368 patients were included. A significant difference was observed between the bamlanivimab and standard of care/placebo groups in terms of mortality rate [risk ratio (RR) = 50, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.36-0.70], hospitalization rate (RR = 0.51; 95%CI: 0.39-0.68), and emergency department (ED) visits (RR = 0.69; 95%CI: 0.47-0.99); while the two groups exhibited no significant difference in terms of intensive care unit (ICU) admission (P > 0.05). Compared to other mAbs, bamlanivimab was associated with a higher rate of hospitalization (RR = 1.44; 95%CI: 1.07-1.94). However, no significant difference was detected between the bamlanivimab and other mAbs groups in terms of mortality rate, ICU admission, and ED (P > 0.05). The incidence of any adverse events was similar between the bamlanivimab and control groups (P > 0.05). Although the results suggest the efficacy and safety of bamlanivimab in COVID-19 patients, further research is required to confirm the efficacy of this drug for the current circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants.

Worldwide Prevalence of Pelvic Organ Prolapse: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

The prevalence of pelvic organ prolapse is varied in different countries. For validating the results of numerous studies on the prevalence of Pelvic organ prolapse in the world, a meta-analysis study seems necessary to provide an accurate and valid prevalence for planners and researchers in this field. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the worldwide prevalence of pelvic organ prolapse using the meta-analysis method. By using valid keywords, searching was done in ISI Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and Medline databases, and 22 articles were selected based on inclusion criteria between 2009 and 2021. The quality of articles was checked using The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklist. Meta-analysis was performed on collected data using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software (CMA, Version 2). Meta-analysis of data was done with a random-effects model. The heterogeneity of the study was checked using the I2 index. Publication bias was assessed by the Egger test and funnel graph. The overall prevalence of included studies was 30.9% (95% confidence interval: 24.4-38.2%), (P<0.001, heterogeneity I2=99.8%). Meta-analysis of subgroups in studies that used a questionnaire to estimate the prevalence rate showed the prevalence was 25.0% and, in the studies, used the physical examination was 41.8%. Studies carried out in different parts of the world have examined the prevalence of pelvic organ prolapse using different tools. Since some cases are asymptomatic, especially in the low stage of prolapse, physical examination of pelvic organ prolapse should be considered an essential tool in evaluating pelvic organ prolapse.
