Supporting the development of cultural competence in the Brazilian Polish community

The article joins the discussion on the ways of shaping cultural competence in teaching and learning Polish as a foreign language. The pretext for the considerations is the implementation of the project "Polish language beyond borders" financed by the National Agency for Academic Exchange. The activities undertaken were aimed at strengthening the Polish community in Brazil, maintaining Polishness in the world, and increasing the level of knowledge of the Polish language and Polish culture (old and contemporary). The designed activities were built around the idea of popularizing Poland by presenting Lublin and the Lublin region as a region gathering "cultural elements of Polishness”. An additional challenge for the implementation of the title project was the outbreak of the pandemic, which resulted in the transfer of all activities to the virtual space. The article discusses the implemented activities, their attractiveness and effectiveness. The observations made are the basis for the formulation of general conclusions and postulates regarding the possibility of remote education of cultural competences as part of learning Polish as a foreign and inherited language.

Design and validation of a scale for the assessment of educational competencies in traditional musical games

This work studies the traditional musical game as a didactic resource in the development of educational competencies in primary school students. The purpose of the study is to validate a scale for the evaluation of essential educational factors in the work of intrinsic competencies in traditional musical games. With a mixed design, the study involves a qualitative approach to the review and discussion of the contributions of social psychology theories: contact theory, cultural values theory, and attitude theory as well as a quantitative approach using an exploratory factor analysis, a parallel analysis and a confirmatory factor analysis of the use of traditional musical games in a sample of 276 primary school students. From an initial questionnaire of 30 items, a final questionnaire of 18 items was obtained, grouped into 4 subscales (Right to Play/Fun and Preferences/Choice of Game Partners/Emotion and Inclusion) derived from the theories of social psychology. The results demonstrate the need for effective tools to measure the educational value of traditional games. This scale could serve as a tool to contribute to the educational research on traditional musical games. Finally, the educational implications that the adoption of traditional games in the classroom can have in terms of integration, equal inclusion, and the social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development of primary school students are discussed.

The effect of educational intervention on hybrid teaching competence of health sciences and medical educators’ – a mixed methods study

ABSTRACT Hybrid teaching, synchronous face-to-face and online learning will continue to be part of flexible teaching methods. This mixed method study aimed to measure the effects of an educational intervention on the development of health sciences and medical educators’ (n = 16) hybrid teaching competence combining experiences about motivation. Hybrid teaching competence was measured with a self-assessment Hybrid Education Competence instrument from one Finnish university in 2022. Pre and post measures about hybrid teaching competence (n = 16) and semi-structured interviews (n = 5) about learning motivation were conducted. Wilcoxon’s signed rank test and inductive content data analysis were used. The educators showed a statistically significant increase in their competence in planning and resourcing hybrid teaching, technological, interaction, digital pedagogy, and ethical competence. Educators experienced the challenges of supporting motivation were less prominent in the second interview than in the first. The study provides evidence on the development of educators’ continuous education and supporting learning motivation.

Nurses' health education competence and health literacy: A cross-sectional survey in Chinese county hospitals

AimThis study aims to assess the health education competence of nurses in China's county hospitals, examining its relationship with health literacy and other influencing factors, such as receipt of health education training, and acquisition of health knowledge. BackgroundNurses are pivotal in delivering health education, which is crucial for improving health outcomes. In rural China, the prevalent low health literacy, stemming from limited access to health guidance, necessitates an evaluation of nurses' health education competence in county hospitals. Understanding these competencies and their influencing factors is essential to enhance the health literacy of the Chinese population. DesignA cross-sectional study. MethodsThe study surveyed 692 nurses from nine county hospitals in Shanxi Province, China, using convenience sampling. The analysis employed descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple linear regression. ResultsThe study revealed a low level of health education competence among the surveyed nurses, with total health education scores averaging 3.77±0.60, and mean scores for knowledge, skills, and attitudes being 3.73±0.67, 3.77±0.64, and 3.89±0.64, respectively. The multiple regression models were significant (P<0.001), with R2 values ranging from 0.143 to 0.197. Key predictors included the incentive mechanism for health education, receipt of health education training, acquisition of health knowledge, and literacies in infectious disease prevention, scientific health concepts, and chronic disease prevention. ConclusionsThis study assessed the health education competence of nurses in county hospitals in China and investigated the impact of various dimensions of health literacy on this competence. The findings indicate that the health education competence of nurses in these settings remains relatively low. Additionally, health education training and incentive mechanisms were found to significantly enhance nurses' health education competence in areas lacking medical resources.

Innovative educational practices through the use of ICT in the teaching-learning process: A diagnostic study

The article presents the main results of the diagnosis carried out by students and teachers of the Digital Educational Competences program of the Instituto Superior Espíritu Santo, on the teaching-learning process in relation to innovative educational practices and the creative and efficient use of ICT. The research was based on the theoretical references related to educational innovation and technological resources, and on the data obtained from the research instruments applied to teachers, students and directors of Basic Education; which allowed the analysis and understanding of the problem and to establish as a study objective to determine the current state of the teaching-learning process in relation to the creative and efficient use of ICT and innovation in educational institutions in the city of Guayaquil. A qualitative methodology is used and an exploratory and hermeneutic type of research is developed based on the emergent paradigm, which allows the subjects of the study to actively participate in the research process; the theoretical methods used are analysis-synthesis and inductive-deductive; within the empirical methods, observation, interview and survey are used; and in the processing of the survey results, the percentage analysis is used. The main results are related to the lack of adequate technological resources and insufficient access to the Internet, which exacerbates the existing disparities in education; the low development of digital competencies of teachers and the resistance to change that hinders the adoption of new digital tools and innovative practices in the classroom.

Effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning in the Unplugged Computational Thinking of University Students

Computational thinking is recognized as a critical competency in contemporary education, preparing individuals to tackle complex challenges in a digitally pervasive world. In this quasi-experimental design study with pretest and post-test measures, the possibility of developing computational thinking from the field of didactics of mathematics in higher education students was investigated. This was performed via a problem-based learning (PBL) methodology using problem solving in the experimental group or, alternatively, focused on the analysis of solved problems in the control group. After the intervention, the control group experienced a statistically significant improvement in the scores obtained in the post-test measure. Thus, PBL and problem solving did not lead to an improvement in the students’ computational thinking, whereas the analysis of solved problems approach did. Therefore, the results suggested the potential benefits of this latter methodology for teaching computational thinking.

The Current State of Research on the Development of Entrepreneurial Competence in Vocational Education

This research paper delves into the current state of outline of entrepreneurial competence development in vocational education. It analyzes the research problems of domestic and international researchers from 2016 to the present, drawing conclusions about the effectiveness of the economic component of content in vocational education and the level of development of entrepreneurial competence for changing students' economic behavior. The research identified a prevalence of theory over practice, highlighting the challenge of implementing entrepreneurial practices, internships, mobility programs, and grant project participation for educators and students. The study underscores the need for state support and assistance for future entrepreneurs, improvement of the quality and quantitative indicators of the effectiveness of students, and official registration of youth startups. The study offers recommendations for enhancing the pedagogical effectiveness of entrepreneurial competence development in the vocational education system: curriculum revision: review and update the content, means, and methods of instruction to incorporate interactive learning forms that foster entrepreneurial competence development; personnel education: training future teachers of vocational (technical and vocational education) who are capable of developing entrepreneurial competence; institutional collaboration: establish cooperation between state institutions (vocational education institutions and employment centers) to provide graduates of vocational educational institutions with non-reimbursable state financial assistance for entrepreneurial activities. The study emphasizes the crucial role of entrepreneurial competence development in preparing students for the dynamic and competitive labor market. By implementing the proposed recommendations, vocational education institutions can effectively equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to navigate the entrepreneurial activities and contribute to economic growth.

Intercultural Communication Competence: Theoretical Exploration and Practical Application from the Perspective of Foreign Language Education

As globalization continues to deepen, intercultural communication competence has become an indispensable key skill in international exchange and cooperation. This paper aims to explore the theoretical construction of intercultural communication competence and its practical application in foreign language education. By synthesizing reviews of relevant literature from both domestic and international sources, this paper proposes an interactive theoretical model of intercultural communication competence that integrates the dimensions of attitude, knowledge, and skills. The model emphasizes the dialogic nature of intercultural communication, the equality of cultures, and the dialectical combination of globalization and localization. Based on this, the paper further develops a practical model that organically integrates intercultural communication competence, teaching segments, and teaching activities into a three-ring structure, providing a specific operational framework for the cultivation of intercultural communication competence in foreign language teaching. Through empirical research, this paper has verified the application effect of the proposed model in college English teaching. The results indicate that the model can effectively enhance students' intercultural awareness, knowledge acquisition, and communication skills. Finally, the paper puts forward a series of teaching suggestions aimed at promoting the comprehensive development of intercultural communication competence in foreign language education and points out directions for future research and practice.

Multiculturalism: Unveiling Intercultural Communicative Competence in Modern Islamic Education

This research explores integrating multiculturalism and Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) in modern Islamic education. This research method is a qualitative study of existing literature. This research uses a literature review approach to explore the definition and dimensions of ICC, the challenges and opportunities in its integration into Islamic education, and the impact of multiculturalism on forming the Islamic education paradigm using thematic analysis of the Miles and Huberman model. Findings suggest a different understanding of ICC, which includes cultural awareness, cross-cultural sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. Despite efforts, challenges like resistance to Western influence and conceptual barriers still exist in integrating ICC into Islamic education. Promising practices, including collaborative approaches between Islamic and non-Islamic educational institutions, show potential for increased integration. Multiculturalism significantly influences educational approaches, offering opportunities to foster cross-cultural understanding and tolerance. Recommendations for future research include further exploration of effective teaching strategies, the development of inclusive learning methods, and longitudinal studies to assess the long-term impact of ICC integration in Islamic educational settings.

The Role of Vocational Schools in Enhancing Teacher Competence for Inclusive Education of Special Needs Children in Central Kalimantan

Background: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs conducted by vocational schools in enhancing teacher competence for inclusive education of special needs children (SNC) in the Central Kalimantan region. Using a quantitative approach, a survey was conducted with 50 teachers from various schools in the region. The results of the study show that teachers' perceptions of the training effectiveness are generally positive, with an average rating of 3.9 out of 5. Data analysis reveals that teachers with longer teaching experience tend to have more positive perceptions of the training effectiveness. The main challenges identified in implementing skills from the training include a lack of time to prepare inclusive materials, limited resources, and inadequate support from school management. This research provides recommendations for the development of more specific and relevant training programs to meet teachers' needs, as well as increased support from school management to support the implementation of inclusive education. The results of this study are expected to make a significant contribution to improving the quality of inclusive education in Indonesia.

The Development of Digital Competences in Future Chemistry Teachers in Accordance with the DigCompEdu Requirements

This paper reports on the results of the research aimed at the creation of an e-learning course to support the teaching of the compulsory course Activating Methods in Chemistry Teaching (AMCT) in the LMS (Learning Management System) Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment). This course was subsequently implemented into university teaching to develop students’ digital competences in line with the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu). The research sample consisted of first year Master's degree students of chemistry teaching (N=18) at the Faculty of Science, P. J. Šafárik University in Košice. The research took the form of a one-group quasi-experiment performed during the winter semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The scope of teaching in the e-course was over 9 modules for a total of 42 hours. The research instruments included the self-assessment card filled in by the students before and after completing the e-course, and a questionnaire developed by the authors. The evaluation of the comparison of the students’ self-assessment cards shows an overall improvement in the students’ level of digital competences and skills in the individual topics covered by the e-course. Significant development of digital skills was evident in the topics Computer Based Laboratory Activities, Online Applications and Use of a Digital Visualizer. The results of the questionnaire showed that students realised the benefits of the e-course for their future teaching practice. To optimise the e-course, it will be necessary to adjust the amount of time required for some topics and create more opportunities to use digital technology to address specific topics in chemistry.

The Implementation of the Madrasah Principal's Policies in Enhancing the Competence of Educators and Educational Staff of Islamic Junior High School (Perspective of the Independent Curriculum)

This research aims to analyze the policies, implementation strategies, and influence of the policies of the Principal of the Islamic Middle School to improve the competence of educators and education staff based on the independent curriculum perspective. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study method. The informants in this research were the school principal, deputy principal for curriculum, educators/teachers, and education staff. The data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentary studies. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman model with the following stages: (1) Data Collection, (2) Data Reduction, (3) Data Presentation, (4) Conclusion Drawing/Verification. Data validity used triangulation techniques, including source and technical triangulation. The results of the research show that: (1) the policies implemented by the principal of the Islamic Middle School, among others, recruitment of educators and educational staff is always adjusted to their qualifications or abilities, placement of educators and educational staff is based on competency, fostering active and communicative relationships with educators and educational staff, giving awards to educators and educational staff who excel; (2) the strategy of the principal of the Islamic Middle School includes: regular meetings, training, supervision, Subject Teacher Working Groups (MGMP), follow-up studies, and benchmarking; (3) The influence of the policy of the principal of the Islamic Middle School including increased accreditation, increased student achievement, and high public trust. The conclusion of this research is to implement the Islamic Middle School policy to improve the competence of educators and education personnel from the Independent Curriculum perspective.

Problematika Pendidik dan Tenaga Kependidikan Islam di Bojonegoro

: Islamic education has an important role in shaping the character and morality of individual Muslims, as well as ensuring the continuity and dissemination of Islamic religious values. In Islamic educational institutions, the role of educators and education personnel is crucial in carrying out this mission. However, in practice, Islamic educators and education personnel often face various challenges and problems that affect the effectiveness of Islamic education as a whole. One of the problems that often arise is the lack of qualifications and competence of Islamic educators and education personnel. Many Islamic educational institutions face difficulties in obtaining educators and education personnel who have a deep understanding of Islamic teachings, as well as skills in applying them in the context of modern education. This can hamper the process of Islamic education and reduce the quality of graduates produced. In addition, the problem of inadequate infrastructure and educational facilities is also one of the main problems in Islamic education. Many Islamic educational institutions still face limitations in terms of educational facilities and infrastructure, such as inadequate school buildings, lack of books and learning materials, and lack of other supporting facilities. This condition can hamper the learning process and create a learning environment that is not conducive. Another challenge is the low motivation and commitment of Islamic educators and education personnel. Lack of motivation and commitment can result in low teaching quality, as well as a lack of innovation in the delivery of learning materials. In addition, differences in understanding and interpretation of Islamic teachings can also cause conflict and disharmony among educators and education personnel.Seeing the complexity of the problems faced by Islamic educators and education personnel, serious and comprehensive efforts are needed to overcome these problems. The role of the government, educational institutions, society and other stakeholders is very important in efforts to improve the quality of Islamic education and ensure the realisation of the vision of quality, inclusive and progressive Islamic education.

Implementation of a Teacher’s health-preserving Competence in the Process of Adaptive and Developmental interaction between Subjects of Education

The article discusses the issue of implementing the health-preserving competence of a teacher at the present stage of modernization of education in Russia. A pedagogical model for the implementation of the health-preserving competence of a teacher is presented. The possibility of a variable part of educational programs through the introduction of a software and technological complex for preparing teachers for activities to improve the adaptive and developmental potential of students. The purpose of this article is to present pedagogical conditions developed and tested on the basis of experimental data and a model for the implementation of a teacher’s health-preserving competence. Methodology. One of the central methodological problems discussed in the article is the identification of the relationship between the readiness of teachers for health-preserving activities and the ability to implement the health-preserving competence of a teacher in the process of adaptive and developmental interaction of subjects of education in class and extracurricular activities. Research results. Materials are described that show that as a result of the combined pedagogical, socio-pedagogical, psychological-pedagogical, medical-physiological-pedagogical interaction of subjects of education, the psychological-pedagogical, didactic and information-technological health-preserving competencies. In conclusion, it is concluded that the implementation of a teacher’s health-preserving competence should be considered as a process of purposeful and consistent adaptive and developmental interaction between subjects of education, promoting the build-up of information technology, psychological, pedagogical and didactic health-preserving pedagogical competencies.

Exploring EFL Learners’ Perceptions of their Level of Digital Competencies in a Higher Education Context

The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of college students towards digital competencies and how they evaluate their level of competency. The participants were 20 students (10 males and 10 females) learning English as a foreign language (EFL) at the School of Foreign Languages of a private university in İstanbul, Türkiye. Data were collected via a socio-demographic questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Inductive Thematic Analysis approach was utilized to determine the themes that occurred in the qualitative data. To achieve this, Braun and Clarke’s (2006) six-step procedure was followed. The results revealed themes such as 1) skills for digitalization, 2) ownership of digital tools, 3) positive attitudes towards digital competencies in language education, 4) needs related to assessment, communication, interaction, resources, information, lessons and teachers and finally, 5) differences between before and after distance education in terms of digital competencies.

Teaching and Learning Clinical Reasoning in Nursing Education: A Student Training Course.

Clinical reasoning is an essential component of nursing. It has emerged as a concept that integrates the core competencies of quality and safety education for nurses. In cooperation with five European partners, Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (IPS) realized the "Clinical Reasoning in Nursing and Midwifery Education and Practice" project as part of the Erasmus+ project. As a partner, our team designed a multiplier event-the student training course. The aim of this report is to describe the construction and development of this clinical reasoning training course for nursing students. We outline the pedagogical approach of an undergraduate training course on clinical reasoning in 2023, which we separated into four stages: (i) welcoming, (ii) knowledge exploration, (iii) pedagogical learning, and (iv) sharing experience. This paper presents the learning outcomes of the collaborative reflection on and integration of the clinical reasoning concept among nursing students. This educational experience fostered reflection and discussion within the teaching team of the nursing department regarding the concept, models, and teaching/learning methods for clinical reasoning, with the explicit inclusion of clinical reasoning content in the nursing curriculum. We highlight the importance of implementing long-term pedagogical strategies in nursing education.

Digital media as a tool for developing foreign language communicative competence in the field of higher education

This article examines the role of digital media in the development of students ' foreign language communicative competence in higher education. The research is based on the analysis of modern technologies and techniques used for teaching foreign languages, as well as on the practical experience of teachers and students.

The problem considered in this article is the psychologicalaspects of increasing educational and cognitive competence. Today, one of themain problems in the field of general education is the decline in the educationaland cognitive competencies of students. A direct factor affecting the decline in thequality of education of students is considered as a result of the rapid developmentof technologies. The ability of students to write competently, to collect thoughts,to speak clearly and clearly, to repeat the acquired knowledge onlyreproductively, and to remember it in a short time has become a disease of ourtime. Therefore, through this search, explaining the concept of "readingcognition", the problem of its formation in the minds of students and developmentin the pedagogical process was discussed.

Comparison of Global Competencies in General and Vocational Education

The article deals with global competencies, understood in academic and policy discussions as a set of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values crucial for successful personal and professional life in a globalized world. It examines the PISA 2018 results, which show that students in Slovenia self-assessed their global competencies below the OECD average. It addresses the scientifically relevant questions of whether, how and why students in Slovenia in general and vocational upper-secondary programmes (do not) report the same level of global competencies. The results show that students in vocational education programmes in comparison to students in general education programmes report significantly lower global competencies but significantly higher learning opportunities on global issues at school. The results, which show that in Slovenia students with lower socioeconomic status are mainly involved in vocational education programmes and that opportunities for acquiring global competencies in school are not significantly related to the self-reported global competencies (awareness of global issues), question the compensating role of school in the acquisition of global competencies by students.
