The Influence of Environmental, Social, and Governance Performance Disclosure on Stock Performance

This research aims to evaluate the effect of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance disclosure on the stock performance of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) during the 2018-2022 period, using the price earning ratio (PER) as an indicator of stock performance. The research population includes companies listed on the IDX with ESG scores from the Thomson Reuters Eikon Database during the period studied. The research sample of 190 companies was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data analysis method used is Panel Data Regression Analysis with the help of STATA 14 for Windows software. The research results show that environmental performance partially has a positive and significant influence on stock performance, while social and governance performance has no significant influence. Simultaneously, environmental, social, and governance performance variables influence the company's stock performance. This research implies that companies on the IDX can improve their stock performance by paying attention to environmental performance aspects. Even though social and governance performance does not partially show a significant influence, attention to these three aspects can improve overall stock performance. These findings provide insight to practitioners, regulators, and investors regarding the importance of ESG disclosure in the context of the Indonesian capital market.

Social Media and Company Stock Performance: A Thematic and Bibliometric Review

Theoretical background: The latent impact of the social media on company stock market performance or equity value has already been empirically studied. It is still in its infancy, although it has received increasing attention over the past few years. No efforts have yet been made to systematically review these studies in order to provide researchers and practitioners with an overview of the state-of-the-art links between social media and stock market performance of companies. This makes our work different from other recently published review papers on social media. Purpose of the article: The goal of this paper is to review, systematize, and integrate existing research on links between social media releases and stock performance, including research production timeline, global contributions, source analysis, affiliations, author locations, and citations of studies on social media (Twitter especially). A further objective is to comprehend the conceptual and intellectual structure of the relevant literature and to identify the knowledge base of social media use in investor relations and financial communication. Research methods: This study employs thematic and bibliometric analysis methodology on 135 peer reviewed papers obtained from two databases (Web of Science and Scopus) and provides an analysis of science mapping, including co-citation analysis, bibliometric coupling, word analysis, and trending topics regarding the relationship between social media releases and stock performance. Main findings: Our results provide three emerging clusters: (1) company stock performance, (2) investor or sentiment analysis, (3) user-generated content and several niche topic clusters: (4) corporate governance and disclosure (5) capabilities and earnings management and (6) economic and social effects. This study indicates that social media have significantly altered the corporate information landscape. Companies and information consumers must incorporate the new channels into their information dissemination or acquisition, and decision-making processes.

Iso Series Certification System on The Financial Performance and Performance

The objective of this study was to compare the financial performance and stock performance of companies with and without ISO series certifications. In this study, EVA (Economic Value Added) and financial ratios, particularly Debt to Equity, Return on Equity, and Return on Assets, reflect financial performance, while anomalous returns represent stock performance. This study utilizes data from 2011 to 2019 firm reports that have acquired ISO 9000 and 14000 series certification. The results indicate that organizations with ISO series certification and those without certification are comparable. There is no substantial difference between the EVA and ROE ratios' financial performance. Nevertheless, the DER and ROA financial performance ratios differ significantly. Moreover, there are considerable discrepancies between ISO corporations and non-ISO companies in terms of stock performance. The conclusion of the study is that there is no significant difference between the performance of companies that receive ISO certification and those that do not, as a result of insufficient research time, the fact that non-ISO companies already have good marketing management, and the lack of continued ISO implementation in companies that already have ISO certification.

Company Stock Performance Analysis on IDX ESG Leaders Index Using the ARIMA-GARCH Model

Stocks are one of the most popular forms of investment. In investing stocks, it is necessary to know the movement of stock prices and the investment risks that may occur. The purpose of this study is to predict the level of risk, see the characteristics of stock returns, and whether the ESG Risk Rating makes the company's stock performance better. The models used to predict stock returns are Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticty (GARCH), and Value at Risk (VaR) is used to predict risk. Based on the research, the potential loss for Bank BCA is IDR29.800.000,00 and Bank Mandiri is IDR33.600.000,00 with the assumption that an investor invests as much as IDR1.000.000.000,00. In addition, Bank BCA has a lower ESG Risk Rating than Bank Mandiri, but has a better performance.

TRIGGER OF STOCK RETURN RATE IN MANUFACTURING COMPANIES LISTED ON THE INDONESIA STOCK EXCHANGE

<p><em>Return is the goal of investors to invest in the capital market. Investors do various ways in order to get the desired return, by doing their own analysis of the movement of the company's stock performance or by using analytical tools in the form of financial statements. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of Return On Assets, Return On Equity, and Price to Book Value on Stock Returns in food and beverage manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2017-2021 period. This research was conducted using a quantitative documentation method. This study uses 520 financial statements per quarter from 26 companies for 5 years as a population. By using purposive sampling method, a sample of 240 financial statements per quarter from 12 companies was obtained. The hypothesis testing method uses the F test, t test, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the study state that partially ROA, ROE, and PBV have a positive and significant effect on stock returns. And simultaneously ROA, ROE, and PBV have a positive and significant effect on stock returns with a coefficient of determination of 17%.</em><em></em></p>

Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of corporate governance and financial performance on stock performance during the covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Research Methodology: This research used quantitative analysis method using seconder data of financial reports on Manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2019-2021. Results: The results of this study are managerial ownership has no significant effect on stock performance, the board of commissioners has no significant effect on stock performance, the board of directors has an effect on stock performance, return on assets has no significant on stock performance, return on equity has no effect on stock performance and earnings per share affect stock performance. Limitations: This study only includes six of the factors that affect stock performance, which results in the effect of the independent variable research on the dependent variable of 4%. Contribution: This research can be used as a reference for company management in order to improve governance and financial performance to improve the company's stock performance will increase. Do negative events really have deteriorating effects on stock performance? A comparative study on Tesla (US) and Nio (China)

PurposeBoth investors and the stock markets are believed to behave in a perfectly rational manner, where investors focus on utility maximization and are not subjected to cognitive biases or any information processing errors. However, it has been discovered that the sentiment of the social mood has a significant impact on the stock market. This study aims to analyze how did the protest event of Tesla happened in April 2021 have a significant effect on the company's stock performance as well as its competitors, Nio, under the competitive effect.Design/methodology/approachThe research is based on time series data collected from Tesla and Nio by employing 10 days, 15 days and 20 days anticipation and adjustment period for the event study. This study employed a text sentiment analysis to identify the polarity of the sentiment of the protest event using the Microsoft Azure machine learning tool which utilizes MPQA subjective lexicon.FindingsThe findings provide further evidence to show that a company-specific negative event has deteriorating effects on its stock performance, while having an opposite effect on its competitors.Research limitations/implicationsThe paper argues that negative sentiments through social media word of mouth (SWOM) affect the stock market not just in the short run but potentially in the longer run. Such negative sentiments might create a snowball effect which causes the market to further scrutinize a company's operations and possibly lose confidence in the company.Originality/valueThis study explores how the Tesla's protest event at Shanghai Auto Show 2021 has a significant impact on Tesla's stock performance and prolonged negative impact although Tesla implemented immediate remedial actions. The remedial actions were not accepted positively and induced a wave of negative news which had a more persistent effect.

Factors Related to Small- and Mid-Capitalization Pharmaceutical Company Success Using Stock Performance as a Surrogate.

BackgroundDeveloping novel pharmaceuticals demands substantial investment despite high uncertainty of success and ultimate market value. While many established drug companies are highly profitable and have large portfolios of diversified assets, much of new drug innovation, a very high-risk, high-reward gambit, stems from smaller companies striving to bring their first products to market. While drug costs, and thus pharmaceutical company profits, can be controversial, it is unquestionable that the products from these companies provide great benefit to humanity. Hence, the ongoing success of the industry as a whole is quite relevant from a public health perspective.MethodologyWe sought to investigate factors influencing pharmaceutical company success using company stock performance on major US indices as a surrogate. As the profitability of large-capitalization (cap) pharmaceutical companies is well established, we focused on small- and mid-cap companies in this analysis. Small- and mid-cap pharmaceutical companies (both currently active and now defunct) and historical share prices were captured, including company details and the nature of drug pipelines. Funding by US academia was acquired via CMS.gov Open Payments and categorized into contributions < or ≥$100,000. Stock performance was considered good (+ ≥25%), mediocre (±25%), or poor (- ≥25%). Univariate and multivariate associations were assessed.ResultsOf the 420 companies included in the analysis, 101 (24%) had good, 76 (18%) mediocre, and 243 (58%) poor performance. The following were associated with performance in univariate analysis: initial public offering (IPO) price (P < 0.001), time from IPO (P < 0.001), number of drug programs (P = 0.019), and academic funding (P = 0.00013), with trend for diverse pipelines (both oncology and nononcology programs under development) (P = 0.069). On multivariate analysis, IPO price was inversely associated (P < 0.0001), while academic funding (P < 0.0001) and more drug programs (P = 0.0025) were positively associated with performance. Analysis of pharmaceutical IPOs since 2000 suggests a 20% rate of outright company failure.ConclusionsThe majority of included companies had lackluster stock performance, suggestive of low potential for drug development success and high probability of financial disaster. Robust drug pipelines and academic collaboration seem to be strongly related to company success.

Stock market reactions to adverse ESG disclosure via media channels

This study examines the value relevance of corporate reputation risks (CRR) from adverse media coverage of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues on stock performance at the firm level. Empirical results advance signalling theory and resource-based view by providing evidence that corporate reputation is considered a valuable intangible asset by investors and adverse ESG disclosure via media channels have a significant and negative impact on firm valuation. The research is extended using various factors and indicates that heightened CRR have a substantially negative corollary effect on stock price of smaller and less liquid firms that are typically not S&P500 constituents. Further analysis using industry classifications reveals that stock performance of companies in the ‘sin’ triumvirate (i.e., alcohol, tobacco, and gaming) is not significantly affected by negative ESG media coverage. Instead, firms in candy & soda, steel works, banking, and insurance industries are the most susceptible to investors' repercussion from undesirable media spotlight. These findings provide new insights and indicate that beyond the type and delivery method of ESG disclosures, firm characteristics, corporate reputation status and industry explain differences in investors' reaction to ‘bad’ news.

A fuzzy analytical hierarchy process framework for stock selection in the Indian stock market

AbstractThe present study aims at ranking the various factors which affect the stock selection decisions of retail investors in the Indian stock market. Further, the research provides valuable insights into the different factors that affect the stock selection decisions of the equity investors. For this purpose, the data were collected from 168 retail equity investors dealing in the Indian Stock Market. “Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process” was applied to rank the various factors affecting the stock selection decision of Individual equity investors trading in the Indian Stock Market. The primary factors considered for the study are accounting information, ownership structure, company‐specific attributes, image of the company/board of directors, fundamentals of stock, trading opportunities, and sensitivity of stock and behavioral factors. The findings of the study revealed that behavioral factors, trading opportunities, and accounting information were the three most influential criteria. The five most influential sub‐criteriums were, “I invest in those stocks which are affordable in terms of price (C52),” “I invest in the company's stock based on the recent price movement of stock (C51),” “I select the stock based on the sensitivity of company's stock performance to overall market performance (C62),” “I invest in the stock based on the trend of major indices (C61),” and “I prefer to invest in stocks which are evaluated by well‐known experts (C80).” The present research has been carried out on a limited sample size which truly represented the total population; still, it is considered as the limitation of the study. The outcome of this research will provide investors with a better understanding of various factors that influence their stock selection decision. The study provides them a guideline on different factors; they should take into consideration, while undergoing the stock selection decision. The present research study enriches the literature on behavior finance from emerging markets.

Is it a gender representation issue or a gender pay gap issue? A study of the replaced executives in the USA

The gender pay gap is one of the central themes of inequality in the workplace and remains at the heart of the political and social debate. Almost all prior executive pay studies focus on a geographic region or industry to uncover gender pay differences. Since firms differ in size and industry, prior studies used diverse conditional variables to deal with the heterogeneity issues. We use a new approach, executive replacement, to analyze the gender pay gap. Since we study the pay gap in the same firm, most heterogeneity issues disappear. We examine if the gender pay gap exists at the executive level when someone from the opposite sex replace an executive. We use a large sample of 4532 publicly traded firms and 302,729 annual pay observations spanning over 25 years (1992 to 2019). We find that a significant difference in total compensation for female CEOs (compared to male CEOs) does not exist at the aggregate level. However, the 'twenty-percent pay gap' does exist during executive turnover. Our results indicate that female executives face a representation problem, not a compensation discrimination problem. Moreover, evidence suggests that female CEOs are swiftly replaced when a company's stock performance suffers. Female CEOs turn around the company's sagging stock performance better than male CEOs.

Is COVID-19 Related Anxiety an Accelerator for Responsible and Sustainable Investing ? A Sentiment Analysis

ABSTRACT The excessive volatility generated by the COVID-19 pandemic highlights that environmental and social issues are potential elements that businesses and governments must manage effectively and swiftly. This study seeks to test whether the rising anxiety over this pandemic has affected the attitudes and choices towards environmentally and socially responsible investing. To this end, we first use machine learning tools to examine tweets related to this unprecedented and wild shock. Second, we compare the impact of these sentiments on the stock performance of companies from the S&P500 that meet environmental and social sustainability criteria for three COVID-19 phases with varying levels of anxiety, which we label incubation, fever and the increasing risk of second wave pandemic (in the absence of vaccine). Our findings reveal that the increasing uncertainty and worries over COVID-19 and its consequences has not distracted investors’ attention away from environmental and social issues, but companies with responsible strategies on environmental issues that specifically address climate responsibility are likely to be more responsive to sentiments at the current situation of emergency.

The policy of determining the benchmark interest rate is considered to be an important thing that can affect the banking sector, both in terms of financial performance and stock performance. This research was conducted in all three Banks Book and four Banks Book listed on the IDX by analyzing the Bank's annual financial statements as well as the trend of the movement of the company's stock performance from 2010 to 2018. Bank financial performance is an important factor that needs to be considered to improve stock performance . MODEL PREDIKSI FINANCIAL DISTRESS : PENGARUHNYA TERHADAP KINERJA SAHAM INDUSTRI TEKSTIL DAN GARMEN DI INDONESIA

This study aims to predict the possibility of Financial distress in the textile and garment industry using the Altman Z-score prediction model and analyze the impact of Financial distress on the company's stock performance as measured by stock returns. This research used descriptive analysis and verification methods. Applying a purposive sampling method, the research sample consisted of 15 issuers from the textile and garment industry during the observation period of 2012-2016. This research used panel data regression to analyze research data. The results showed that one company did not experience financial problems, one company had potential financial problems, and the 13 other companies experienced Financial distress. The results of model testing showed that Altman Z-score can be used to predict Financial distress conditions in the textile and garment industry for the 2012-2016 period. The results of hypothesis testing showed that only one ratio of the Altman Z-score model has a significant effect on stock returns, i.e., market value of equity to book value of debt, while other ratios of working capital to total assets, retained earnings to total assets, earnings before interest and taxes to total assets, and sales to total assets have no significant effect on stock returns. This study aims to determine the effect of the company's financial performance on the company's stock performance. Based on the results of research, discussion and analysis conducted, it is known that overall company performance is affected by major problems namely due to slowing global economic conditions, oversupply of Chinese tires, weakening of the world currency against the USD and falling commodity prices of rubber being a factor decrease in sales volume and affect the amount of net profit generated by the company. Inefficiency in suppressing cost of goods sold and operating expenses also causes the erosion of operating profits generated by the company. So that it affects the financial performance and overall stock performance which also impacts the decline in the value of the company.

ANALISIS PERBEDAAN KINERJA SAHAM PADA PERUSAHAAN YANG MELAKUKA CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY DAN PERUSAHAAN YANG TIDAK MELAKUKAN CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PADA PERUSAHAAN MANUFAKTUR YANG TERDAFTAR DI BURSA EFEK INDONESIA

The purpose of this study was to examine differences in the performance of stock in a company that does Corporate Social Responsibility and the company does not undertake Corporate Social Responsibility in companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Samples of this company is a manufacturing company that does Corporate Social Responsibility and the company does not undertake Corporate Social Responsibility in 2013. The stock performance is analyzed by using the ratios earnings price ratio, price-to-book ratio and earnings per share and do independent samples test or Mann Whitney test for testing the significance of differences. The results of this study indicate that outlines the company's stock performance that does Corporate Social Responsibility has no difference with the stock performance of companies that do not do a Corporate Social Responsibility. This is shown by the results obtained in the analysis of financial ratios which includes price earnings ratio, price to book value and earnings per share.

The Stock Performance of American Companies Investing in a Culture of Health

We investigated the relationship between companies' efforts to build internal (COH-INT) and external cultures of health (COH-EXT) and their stock performance. We administered 2 surveys, which measure companies' programs, policies, and supports for improving the health of their employees and communities. We then compared the companies' stock performance to the Standard and Poor's (S&P) 500 Index from January 2013 through August 2017. United States. Representatives from 17 publicly traded companies who completed the COH-INT survey, of whom 14 also completed the COH-EXT. Culture of health scores were dichotomized into high versus low for both surveys. Stock price data for all companies were gathered from public sources. We constructed 5 stock portfolios: all 17 companies, high COH-INT, low COH-INT, high COH-EXT, and low COH-EXT companies. We examined total returns for each portfolio compared to the S&P 500. High COH-INT companies' stock price appreciated by 115% compared to the S&P benchmark (+69%), while low COH-INT companies appreciated only 43%. In contrast, high COH-EXT companies underperformed (+44%) when compared to the S&P 500 (+69%) and low COH-EXT companies (+89%). This study supports the view that employers' efforts to build an internal culture of health is a sound business strategy. More research is needed, however, to establish whether a link exists between supporting healthy community initiatives and company stock performance.
