Dual band high tuning range frequency reconfigurable dielectric resonator antenna for sub-6 GHz applications

ABSTRACT A high-tuning range frequency reconfigurable dual-band compact cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) for 5 G Sub 6 GHz applications is presented in the proposed work. The work presented here provides compactness, frequency reconfigurability (FR), and dual-band. FR is obtained through two PIN diode switches, which operate in ON-ON, ON-OFF, OFF-ON, and OFF-OFF configurations and offer a maximum wide tuning range and a total spectrum of 44.44% and 71.49%, respectively. In the cylindrical DRA, the HE M 11 δ and HE M 12 δ modes create dual-band, while the hybrid structure and higher order mode excitation yield compactness.

A miniaturized cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna array development for GPS / Wi-Fi / wireless LAN applications

A triple band Compact Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (CCDRA) array is designed, analyzed, fabricated and presented in this paper. A high dielectric material is utilized in the proposed structure to achieve adequate compactness with moderate gain. The overall size of a proposed antenna array is 50 × 60 × 1.6 mm3. The array utilizes Flame Retardant (FR4) material as a substrate which is commercially available. The unequal microstrip line power divider excitation technique is introduced to obtain satisfactory bandwidth. The presented antenna operates at 1.5 GHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequencies with the gain values of 2.8 dBi, 3.4 dBi and 5.8 dBi. The Defected Ground Structure (DGS) boosts the antenna efficiency above 75%. The VSWR of presented prototype is well below the need of 1.5.The adequate response from an antenna at targeted frequencies makes it suitable for GPS / Wi-Fi /WLAN applications.

A Metallic WBAN Dielectric Resonator Antenna for ISM Band Applications

A compact cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) for Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) applications is proposed in this article. The simple microstrip feeding system can be used to stimulate a certain CDRA. An implemented dielectric resonator delivers the functionalities for an efficient radiator with the feeding specifications. The permitted band can be accumulated by varying the design specifications. The standardized design comprises the resonator to attain frequency of 2.4 GHz. The ISM band is used in wireless body area networks (WBAN) technology for transmission of real time traffic such as video and information to monitor the health conditions. A U-shaped metal strip is located over the dielectric resonator material in order to miniaturize the size and enhance the resonator appearance. The consequences on antenna appearance for various radio wire specifications are explored. The intended model has competitive prices, lower volumes, and adequate containment. The evaluation of antenna illustrates the optimal bandwidth, coefficient of reflection (< -10 dB) as well as substantial gain across the specified bands. Coefficients of reflection, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) and radiation structure were discovered in each scenario. Architecture content and simulated results of Ansoft's HFSS are demonstrated. For ISM band implementations, the constructed antenna is sensible.

Compact dielectric resonator antenna with bandwidth enhancement via loading of shorting pins

A novel compact cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with improved bandwidth is proposed in this study. By loading the shorting pins around the nodal line of electric fields of TM011 mode of the DRA, an additional shorting-pin mode could be excited for the antenna, while keeping an almost constant frequency of TM011 mode. After that, the DRA loaded with two, three, and four shorting pins is further studied. The results indicate that the resonant frequency of the shorting-pin mode is progressively pushed up by increasing its number. With these arrangements, an improved-bandwidth is obtained for the DRA loaded with four pins. Finally, the proposed DRA is fabricated and measured to validate the predicted performances. The results show that the DRA has gained an enhanced-bandwidth (|S11| < –10 dB) of about 17% (3.65–4.33 GHz) under the radiation of dual modes, while keeping the stable conical radiation patterns. Most importantly, the height and diameter of the dielectric radiator are maintained as small as 0.09 and 0.32 free-space wavelength, respectively.

Compact dual polarised CDRA with stimulation of triple radiating mode

ABSTRACTIn this communication, compact cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) is designed and examined with diversified polarisation features in twofold frequency ranges. Three significant features of proposed CDRA are: (i) modified circular shaped aperture is used to stimulate the CDRA, which helps to excite triple radiating modes inside it i.e. HEM11δ, HEM12δ, HEM13δ; (ii) proposed CDRA supports two different polarisation features i.e. Linear as well as circular; (iii) modified circular aperture makes the CDRA electrically compact approximately by 14%. Fabricated prototype of proposed CDRA is used to practically authenticate the results. After measurement, it approves that the proposed CDRA is working in twofold frequency bands i.e. 4.83–6.82 GHz and 7.05–7.52 GHz with the percentage bandwidth of 34.19 and 6.45%, respectively. Experimental results also approve that the proposed CDRA support circularly polarised waves during frequency range 5.65–6.25 and 7.2–7.52 GHz, respectively. Stable far-field results confirm its suitability for WLAN (5.0 GHz) and X-band downlink satellite communication band (7.0 GHz).

Antenna for Ultra-Wideband Applications With Non-Uniform Defected Ground Plane and Offset Aperture-Coupled Cylindrical Dielectric Resonators

A new compact Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (CDRA) with a defected ground for ultra-wideband applications is presented. The structure is based on two cylindrical dielectric resonators asymmetrically located with respect to the center of an offset rectangular coupling aperture, with consideration of three and four Dielectric Resonators (DR). The resonant modes generated by the defected ground are studied and investigated. A parametric optimization study of the antenna design has been carried out to determine the optimal dimensions of the defected ground plane, resulting in an impedance bandwidth of over 133% that covers the frequency band from 3.6 GHz to 18.0 GHz. A power gain of about 7.9 dBi has been achieved. Design details and measured and simulated results are presented and discussed.

Compact triband cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna with circular slots for wireless application

In this article, low-profile and compact cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna along with circular slots and filtering structure for wireless application is reported. Proposed antenna is excited by annular-shaped microstrip line. Two ring-shaped resonators placed on opposite sides of feed line are working as a band-pass filter. These resonators are unified with wideband cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna and make it suitable for triple band operations with better isolation level. Dual ring-shaped parasitic slots on a partial ground plane are used to make CDRA more compact. The proposed triple band antenna has been analyzed, studied and optimized using Ansoft HFSS simulation software. Prototype of proposed geometry has been fabricated and tested. There is a better accord between simulated and measured results. The proposed design engenders three frequency bands i.e. 2.35–2.55 GHz; 3.35–3.65 GHz; and 5.1–5.42 GHz with a resonant frequency of 2.45, 3.55, and 5.35 GHz, respectively. Proposed antenna design may find suitable applications for WLAN (2.4/5.2 GHz) and WiMAX (3.5 GHz) bands. The proposed design shows an average measured gain of 4.71 dB in the three desired bands.
