Type Abundance and Relative Abundance of Macrozoobentos in the Intertidal Zone of Marabatuan Island, Kotabaru, Indonesia

The structure of macrozoobenthos communities plays a crucial role in aquatic ecosystems because most of them are in the second or third trophic level. Components of macrozoobenthos community structure include species and abundance, species diversity index, species uniformity index, dominance index. The research aims to analyze species abundance and relative abundance of macrozoobenthos in the intertidal zone of Marabatuan Island, Kotabaru, Indonesia. The research location is on Marabatuan Island, Pulau Sembilan District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan Province. The highest relative abundance (KR) was at station 3, namely the species Ophiocoma erinaceus, from the Asteroidea class, the second highest value was at station 2 with the species Holothuria atra and at station 1 of the same species, namely Holothuria atra from the Asteroidea. The lowest relative abundance was at station 1 of the Linckia laevigata species. The Diversity Index (H') of macrozoobenthos at all stations is in the medium criteria.

Evaluation of Water Quality Based on Macrozoobenthos as Bioindicator in Ngesong Spring and The Ditch, Batu-East Java

The Ngesong spring is a clean spring that is used by society as a spring of clean water and as a tourist attraction. The Ngesong spring has a ditch that flows up to the society settlement, where the water is used for agricultural irrigation and plantation irrigation. The utilization of the Ngesong spring as a tourist attraction and its ditch through agriculture, settlements, and society settlements have great potential to cause pollution and degradation of water quality, so it is necessary to evaluate water quality. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the quality of this water, one of which is using the macrozoobenthos community structure as a bioindicator. The research was conducted in four locations, namely a water spring and the channels that will be used for agriculture, plantations, and settlement activities, in September and October 2022. The variables observed in this study include the physicochemical quality of water, namely water temperature, conductivity, power of hydrogen (pH), dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD), and total suspended solids (TSS), as well as community structure and macrozoobenthos diversity. The results of this study indicate that there are 26 macrozoobenthos families belonging to 12 orders, for a total of 968 individuals. Water springs are the location with the highest diversity and evenness index values, with H = 2.27 and E = 0.54. The results of the analysis of macrozoobenthos family relationships as an indicator of water quality using the Family Biotic Index (FBI) and Average Score Per Taxon (ASPT) showed that the Waterspring site has very clean waters and no organic pollution. At Waterspring sites that have good water quality, the families Perlidae, Nemouridae, Limnephilidae, Viviparidae, Chironomidae, and Euphaeidae were found. Meanwhile, according to the FBI, sites that have highly organically polluted waters are the ditches that had agricultural activity and, based on ASPT, settlement activity.

Assessment of macrozoobenthos baseline diversity for monitoring the ecological quality of Finima Nature Park Lake.

The scarcity of pristine, intact ecosystems limits opportunities to learn about succession and ecosystem evolution under conditions of limited human impact. Finima Nature Park (FNP) has been identified as a possible RAMSAR site. Its protected lake-"FNP Lake" (also known locally as "Bonny Lake")-is an unusual habitat that enables monitoring of aquatic ecological succession in the Niger Delta, where pristine and near-pristine ecosystems are becoming scarce. Macrozoobenthos are one of the best-known bio-monitors of ecological health integrity because they are widespread and long-lasting, with moderate mobility and high diversity, among other valuable characteristics. Monthly data of the community structure of macrozoobenthos and some of the FNP Lake's priority abiotic factors were collected in 2018, which provided a baseline for identifying future water quality changes and succession in the lake. Except for temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO), which were spatially uniform, the physico-chemical parameters varied spatio-temporally. The diversity indices values were low. According to the canonical correspondence abundance (CCA) plot, taxa distributions were influenced mainly by pH, DO, and temperature, which explains the prevalence of oxygen-insensitive species.

Efficiency and ecological safety of herbicide haloxyfop-R-methyl on removal of coastal invasive plant Spartina alterniflora

Spartina alterniflora is a global invasive plant and has caused considerable damage to coastal wetland ecosystem. This study evaluated the efficiency and ecological safety of herbicide haloxyfop-R-methyl (HPME) in removing S alterniflora in Laizhou Bay. The results showed that the density of regenerated S. alterniflora after 10 months of application of 0.01, 0.02 and 0.03 g/m2 HPME decreased by 86.67 %, 99.16 % and 99.31 %, respectively. Moreover, seed abortion rates were 62.25 %, 92.24 % and 94.82 %, and weight of roots in HPME groups were 56.63 %, 59.99 %, and 40.10 % of those in the control group. After 4 days of application, HPME could not be detected in S. alterniflora and sediments. In addition, HPME did not change sediment physicochemical properties, macrozoobenthos community and microbial community structure during 16 days, but increased the density of native macrozoobenthos after 1 year. Therefore, HPME might be an effective and ecologically safe chemical for the eradication of S. alterniflora.

COMMUNITY STRUCTURE OF MACROZOOBENTHOS AS AN INDICATOR QUALITY OF COASTAL WATERS IN TANAH MERAH VILLAGE

This research was conducted in January 2022 in the coastal waters of Tanah Merah Village and at the Marine Biology Laboratory and Marine Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Marine Science, University of Riau. The purpose of the study was to analyze the structure of macrozoobenthos communities in the coastal waters of Tanah Merah Village which includes the type, abundance, diversity, uniformity, dominance index, and similarity of communities. As supporting data in this study, several environmental parameters were also measured which included water quality, sediment type, and sedimentary organic matter content. The research method used is the survey method, where sampling using the squared transect method is carried out at 3 stations. Based on the results of the study found 13 species of macrozoobentos. A species that is found at all stations is Nerita articulate. The abundance of macrozoobenthos is 12,300 ind/ha. The diversity index value (H') of 1.42, indicates a moderate category, namely water quality is still maintained, a uniformity index (E) of 1.66, is classified as a high category, namely water quality is still supportive for macrozoobenthos life, the dominance index (C) 0.17, is included in the low category. In the community similarity index between I and II, 25% of types are not the same, inter-station I and III 43% of types are almost the same, and inter-station II and III 16% of types are not the same. Water quality parameters are as follows: temperature 27-29oC; salinity 30-31 ppt; pH 6-7; DO 3.6-7.6 mg /l. Sedimentary organic matter 4.47-23.53%, muddy sediment type. Based on the value of the aquatic quality biological index at the research site, it is still in good condition

COMPARISON OF MACROZOOBENTHOS COMMUNITY STRUCTURE ON SEAGRASS ECOSYSTEMS IN THE WATERS OF NIRWANA COAST AND PULAU PANJANG OF WEST SUMATRA

Macrozoobenthos have various roles in the ecosystem, one of which is as a biological indicator because macrozoobenthos will react to disturbances in an aquatic ecosystem. Seagrasses are breeding and sheltering grounds for marine life, one of which is macrozoobenthos. Nirwana Beach and Pulau Panjang are waters that have seagrass ecosystems in West Sumatra. The purpose of this study was to compare the community structure of macrozoobenthos in the waters of Nirwana Beach and Pulau Panjang, this research was conducted in the waters of Nirwana Beach and Pulau Panjang in June-July 2021. The method used in this study is the survey method; sampling was carried out using three plots on each transect with a size of 1m x 1m and was repeated three times on each plot. The results of this study found that the abundance value in the waters of Nirwana Beach was 20.59 ind/m2 and in the waters of Pulau Panjang 21.44 ind/m2, the diversity index (H’) in the waters of Nirwana Beach was 2.450 and in the waters of Pulau Panjang was 2.680, The uniformity index (E) in the waters of Nirwana Beach is 0.738 while in the waters of Pulau Panjang, it is 0.807 and the dominance(C) in the waters of Nirwana Beach is 0.162 and in the waters of Pulau Panjang is 0.198. The distribution pattern (Id) of macrozoobenthos at both locations is clustered with a value of 1.07 ind/m2 in the waters of Nirwana Beach and 1.13 ind/m2 in the waters of Pulau Panjang. The community similarity index was categorized as moderate with 66% at both study sites.

Analisis Longitudinal Struktur Komunitas Makrozoobentos yang Tercemar Limbah Pertambangan Emas Skala Kecil di Sungai Cikondang, Jawa Barat

Small-scale gold mining activities are still mostly carried out in various regions in Indonesia. The use of mercury (Hg) in the process of extracting gold from sediments can be a source of pollution for aquatic ecosystems and organisms. The aim of this study was to analyze the macrozoobenthos community structure in the Cikondang River which was affected by Hg pollution due to small-scale gold mining. Sampling was carried out by survey method at 5 sampling points along the Cikondang River from upstream to downstream. Water quality parameters measured include temperature, transparency, current velocity, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Hg concentrations in sediments and macrozoobenthos were measured using automatic mercury analyzer. The results showed that the concentration of Hg in sediments in the Cikondang River ranged from 0.63–52.48 mg/kg and the accumulation of Hg in macrozoobenthos ranged from 0.97 to 0.98. The macrozoobenthos diversity index was 1.50-2.17 and the dominance index was 0.16-0.30. The most group of macrozoobenthos found was from the Gastropod class, followed by the Insecta and Malacostraca classes. Macrozoobenthos in the Cikondang River were only found in the downstream of the river, at Sampling Points 4 and 5 only. This showed that Hg pollution in the Cikondang river is highly toxic, caused macrozoobenthos was not found at Sampling Point 1, 2 and 3.

Community structure of macrozoobenthos in seagrass bed on Barrang Lompo Island

Macrozoobenthos are bottom animals that play an important role in the productivity of waters in seagrass beds. This study aims to determine the species composition, density of macrozoobenthos, community structure of macrozoobenthos and the relationship between seagrass density and density of macrozoobenthos. The research method used is purposive sampling method, this method is taken based on certain reasons and criteria. This research was conducted in June-July 2022 on Barrang Lompo Island. Sangkarrang District, Makassar City. There were 26 species found consisting of 4 classes namely Bivalvia, Gastropods, Chepalopods and Crustacea with a total of 283 ind and dominated by the Gastropod class, both from the number of species and individual density. Macrozoobenthos community structure on Barrang Lompo Island at station I and II with a moderate diversity index (H'), moderate uniformity index (E') and low dominance index (D). The types of seagrass found at stations I and II were Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, and Cymodocea rotundata. The regression results of the relationship between seagrass density and macrozoobenthos density on Barrang Lompo Island show a weak relationship, which means that seagrass density has no relationship with macrozoobenthos density but macrozoobenthos density is influenced by physical and chemical factors of the waters and the type of sandy substrate.

COMMUNITY STRUCTURE OF MACROZOOBENTHOS AS BIOINDICATOR OF WATER QUALITY IN THE OGAN RIVER AROUND BATURAJA CITY

Macrozoobenthos has an important role in the waters. The river is one example of a water body where macrozoobenthos can be used as an indicator of water pollution. This study aims to calculate the community structure of macrozoobenthos and the water quality in the Ogan River around Baturaja City. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling method in 5 stations, in which each station had 5 sampling points determined based on differences in microhabitat, namely stonny, gravel, sandy, and litter conditions around the edge of vegetation. The results revealed that macrozoobenthos found in the Ogan River consisted of 6 classes (i.e., Bivalvia, Crustacea, Gastropods, Insecta, Oligochaeta, and Turbellaria), 12 orders, 21 families, and 30 genera. The density of macrozoobenthos species ranged from 598 to 1367 ind/m2. The diversity index value in the Ogan River around Baturaja City ranged from 1.117 to 2.22 with a moderate category. In addition, the community similarity index of the five stations reached ≥ 50%, except for stations III and V (44%). Seemingly that the macrozoobenthos community in the waters of the Ogan River around Baturaja City was relatively the same. Therefore, the community structure of the Ogan River around Baturaja City was relatively stable.

STRUCTURE OF MACROZOOBENTHOS COMMUNITIES ON ODES’KA AND DNISTROVS’KA BANKS (NORTH-WESTERN PART OF THE BLACK SEA)

Introduction. Underwater banks influence the distribution of fish due to the presence of certain habitats and feed resources, a significant part of which is produced in macrozoobenthos biocenoses formed in different biotopes. There exist very little data on the state and structure of the macrozoobenthos of Odes’ka and Dnistrovs’ka banks in the modern period. Aim. The purpose of the work was to determine the structure of macrozoobenthos groupings on different types of substrate of Odes’ka and Dnistrovs’ka banks in modern conditions. Methods. The material was collected in the districts of Odes’ka and Dnistrovs’ka banks with a 10×10 cm area quantitative accounting frame using light diving equipment. In the laboratory, the samples were processed in accordance with the generally accepted methodology. Mathematical data processing was carried out with the introduction of multivariate statistics methods. Results. On different types of the substrate of Odes’ka and Dnistrovs’ka banks, six communities of macrozoobenthos which significantly differed in structure were identified. The macrozoobenthos of Odes’ka Bank is characterized by high abundance, biomass and biodiversity indices compared to the macrozoobenthos of Dnistrovs’ka Bank. In the community of Mytilus galloprovincialis on Odes’ka Bank, species that were present in it before the period of intensive development of hypoxia were registered. In this community, the abundance of Mytilaster lineatus, Prionospio cirrifera increased, Alitta succinea was not found. The community of Chamelea gallina in Odes’ka Bank is characterized by high biomass and high abundance of Donax trunculus. Conclusion. The structure of macrozoobenthos communities in the area of the Odes’ka and Dnistrovs’ka banks is significantly different. Their state reflects the trend of structural changes in macrozoobenthos in the northwestern part of the Black Sea in the modern period.

Macrozoobenthos community structure in sea waters of Panjang and Pamujan Besar Islands, Banten Bay, Indonesia

The sea waters around Panjang and Pamujan Besar Islands (Banten Bay) are fishing grounds and recreation areas for local communities around the bay. The research activity on the macrozoobenthos community structure was carried out from May to July 2019 at 6 stations scattered around the islands. This study evaluates the macrozoobenthos community structure at the sea waters around these islands. Data analysis was carried out on density, diversity, evenness, and dominance indices. Based on the research results, there were 23 genera of the macrozoobenthos from four classes, namely Bivalvia (2 genera), Gastropoda (7 genera), Malacostraca (7 genera), and Polychaeta (7 genera). Pronospio sp., Nephthys sp., and Nereis sp. were the most common genera of macrozoobenthos found at each station. Based on the calculation results, the density varied between 58 and 406 ind/m2. The value of the diversity, evenness, and dominance indices at each station ranged between 1.00 and 2.842, 0.935 to 1.00, and 0.157 to 1.00, respectively. Based on these values, the sea water condition in Panjang and Pamujan Besar Islands has medium diversity, high evenness, and no dominant macrozoobenthos.

Structure of the Macrozoobenthos Community in Estuaria of Padang Pariaman Regency

This research was carried out in rivers and estuaries in the Batang Naras River, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra. The river is often used by residents for pond irrigation and ice factory cooling machines. This activity will indirectly affect the biota in rivers and estuaries. Macrozoobenthos is one of the biological aspects that play an important role in assessing the quality of water. The purpose of this study was to determine the community structure of macrozoobenthos in the estuary of Batang Naras. The method used is a descriptive survey. Sampling was done by purposive sampling by setting up 3 research stations. Based on the research results found 2 phyla, namely Arthropoda and Mollusca, 3 classes namely Crustacea, Insects, and Gastropods, 6 orders, 11 families, and 12 genera. The highest benthic diversity index (H') was found at station I at 1.803 and the lowest was found at station III at 1.222. This zone belongs to lightly to moderately polluted waters and the dominance value is 0.5. Diversity and dominance show moderate values. The influence of industrial activities and aquaculture disturb the amount of benthos in the estuary.

Makrozoobenthos As A Bioindicator Of Water Quality In The Masang Kecil River In West Pasaman Regency

Sungai Masang Kecil is located in the middle of the PT Andalas Agro Industri (PT AAI) palm oil plantation and mill. This activity will have an impact on aquatic biota, especially benthos. Benthos occupies an important position in the food chain and lives permanently on the substrate to be used as a bioindicator of pollution. This study aimed to determine the Community Structure of Macrozoobenthos and the indicator species of water pollution in the Masang Kecil River around the PT AAI area, West Pasaman Regency. This research was conducted using a purposive sampling method with three sampling points, namely upstream and two downstream points after the Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) and after the confluence of tributaries. Sampling using Surber net size 30 x 30 cm. The results of identifying the types of Bento's organisms as a whole identified as many as 45 species. Most species are found in Class Insecta. Based on the diversity index, the water quality in PT AAI's river basin was classified as unpolluted, and it could be concluded that the benthic condition was in good condition on a scale of 4. In the current study, the Diptera order as an indicator of polluted water was most commonly found among orders from other insect classes, namely, ten species. However, there were nine species from the Order Ephemeroptera as an indicator of clean waters and six species for Trichoptera.

The State and Structure of Macrozoobenthos Communities of the Usman River according to the Materials of the 2021 Expeditionary Survey

Background: For small rivers, the monitoring carried out by the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Voronezh Region is insufficient due to the limited number of water sampling points and the assessment of its quality only by a number of priority chemical and microbiological indicators. Objective: To assess the state and structure of macrozoobenthos communities of the Usman River affected by local anthropogenic contamination. Materials and methods: The analysis of the river water quality included testing of safety and chemical indicators by laboratory research methods. Surveys of the macrozoobenthos of the river were conducted as part of the research expedition in September–October 2021. The dominant information structure of bottom communities from the upper reaches to the mouth of the river was analyzed, after low water and pollution of the upper reaches of the river by industrial and household effluents in the 2020/2021 winter period. We established the main types of communities, identified dominant species, and analyzed indicators of the information structure. Results: Our findings confirm a strong destructive effect of organic discharges of “Ovoschi Chernozemya” LLC [Vegetables of the Black Earth Region] and “Vodokanal” wastewater service of the town of Usman on the bottom communities of the river, where, in comparison with the background, near the village of Krasnoe, we observed a change of community types and a multiple decrease in species diversity, abundance, biomass, stability, suppression of information diversity, and “jump” in entropy, indicating either degradation or a period of community restructuring.

Banyuwedang Bay is located in the West Bali National Park (TNBB), which is part of the conservation area. There were a lot of tourism activities developed in this area, which potentially caused disruption of the surrounding water conditions. This study aims to determine the profile of various communities in the waters of Banyuwedang Bay and as initial data to see the development of these communities due to the environmental impacts of various activities in the waters and coastal area of Banyuwedang Bay. Data was collected from five observation stations including: Community structure of Plankton, Macrozoobenthos, and seagrass, and coral reef cover. Result shows that the phytoplankton community consist of 9 genera where Nitzschia sp. (Bacillariophyceae) as the dominant species found. Phytoplankton have low diversity index ranging between 0.348 - 1.411. Zooplankton diversity index also has low value 0.693 with three genera found namely Copepoda sp., Nauplius sp. and Daphnia sp. Macrozoobenthos community is composed of 17 macrozoobenthos genera, with low diversity index ranging ??between 0.562-1.809. There are only two species of seagrass, Halophila ovalis and Cymodocea rotundata, which were found in Banyuwedang Bay. Coral reef cover seems to be ranged from poor to good conditions, with 25% - 73% coverage. Based on the result, we concluded that the Banyuwedang Bay has a moderate condition to the growth of plankton and seagrass, but good for coral reefs. Periodic monitoring is needed to find out changes in conditions that can occur in Banyuwedang Bay.

Responses of macrozoobenthos communities to changes in submerged macrophyte biomass in 19 temperate lakes in China.

Macrozoobenthos and submerged macrophytes interact closely. However, studies in China have focused on the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, where shallow lakes are concentrated, rather than on temperate lakes. To clarify the responses of taxonomic and functional groups of macrozoobenthos in temperate lakes to changes in submerged macrophyte biomass (BMac) on a large scale, 19 temperate lakes within Baiyangdian Lake were investigated in this study. The BMac differed greatly across the 19 lakes, and Potamogeton crispus was the dominant species. According to the BMac, the 19 lakes were divided into 4 groups. One-way analysis of variance and Pearson correlation analysis showed that the water environmental parameters were different among the 4 groups, and the BMac was significant correlated with all the physical and chemical parameters of water bodies (except for water depth). Forty-one taxa of macrozoobenthos were identified in the 19 lakes, with oligochaetes, Hirudinea, gastropods, crustaceans, chironomid larvae, and aquatic insects (excluding chironomid larvae) represented by 9, 1, 4, 2, 19, and 6 species, respectively. Chironomid larvae and oligochaetes dominated by density, and gastropods and chironomid larvae dominated by biomass. Canonical correspondence analysis showed that the BMac was the most important factor affecting the macrozoobenthos community structure in group 1 to group 4. Macrozoobenthos with low pollution tolerance values were mainly found in areas with high BMac, while species with high pollution tolerance values were mainly distributed in areas with low BMac and high nutrient contents. Different taxonomic and functional groups of macrozoobenthos responded differently to changes in BMac. As BMac increased, density and biomass of oligochaetes and chironomid larvae tended to decrease, while those of gastropods and aquatic insects tended to first decrease and then increase. Collectors had more species than any other functional group in group 1 to group 4. As BMac increased, density and biomass of collectors gradually decreased, while density of predators, shredders, and scrapers tended to first decrease and then increase.

Trophic-Saprobic Index Based on Macrozoobenthos Abundance as Indicator of Pollution Status in The Banjir Kanal Barat River.

The Banjir Kanal Barat River is one of the major rivers in the Semarang City and there are various activites along the river by the citizen which will give an impact to lead to pollution on water quality. Macrozoobenthos can be used as bioindicator because of it’s low of mobility, easy to catch and identify. The purpose of this study was to determine the community structure of macrozoobenthos, the saprobic index value and to determine the pollution status of The Banjir Kanal Barat River.This research was conducted in June-July 2020 using a purposive sampling technique with a total of three stations. The 1st Station is dredged waters in 2019, the 2nd Station is polluted waters due to chicken farm waste, and the 3rd Stations is polluted waters due to domestic waste.The identification of macrozoobenthos use FAO book (1998) and Conchology.be website.The Calculation of community structure of macrozoobenthos consist of diversity, uniformity, and dominance index.The data analysis in this research are data analysis of community structure of macrozoobenthos and saprobic index. The result showed that the Diversity Index (H’) ranged from 0,98 to 1,17 while the Uniformity Index (e) was between 0,56-0,71 and the Dominance Index (C) ranged from 0,43 to 0,45. There were 8 types of macrozoobenthos, consisting of 1 type from the polysaprobic group, 2 types from the β-mesosaprobic group and 5 types from the non-saprobik group. Based on the calculation of the saprobic index value obtained -0,11 and the Tropic Saprobic Index was -1,07. The pollution status of the Banjir Kanal Barat River is indicated moderate to severe pollution.

Pollution Status of Raman River, Metro City Based on the Macrozoobenthos Community

Raman River is located in Purwoasri Village, North Metro District, Metro City. People use this river for various purposes, namely irrigation for rice fields , fisheries, transportation, tourism, and other uses. The increasing use of rivers by the community might caused a negative impact to the waters quality and affect the organisms living there, such as macrozobenthos. The purpose of this study was to analyze the pollution status of the Raman River waters based on the macrozoobenthos community structure. Sampling was done from April to Mei 2020. The research location was determined using a survey method and the sampling was carried out by purposive sampling. The data obtained were analyzed using Abudance-Biomass Comparison (ABC) method.
